LenDale White News & Rumors

Running back LenDale White released by Broncos
"The hometown kid never got a chance to play for the hometown team. The Broncos released running back LenDale White this morning. White, 26, was a prep star at both Denver South and Chatfield High School before he became a standout at USC where he joined Heisman Trophy winners Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush in the same backfield."
Broncos' LenDale White prefers that stadium be called Mile High
"Broncos players weren't sure what to think about playing in a new home this year. Invesco Field at Mile High? appears to be in its final days. The Metropolitan Football Stadium District will meet Tuesday with the expectation of approving the stadium home of the Broncos to be renamed Sports Authority Field at Mile High. "I just like 'Mile High,' " said LenDale White, a Broncos running back who grew up in Denver. "I grew up with Mile High, Orange Crush, John Elway?. It will seem weird — what did you say it was? Sports Authority at Mile High? Whatever pays the bills, I guess." Invesco was scheduled to pay an average of $6 million a year for naming rights. Sports Authority, an Englewood-based"
LenDale White has surgery
"Broncos running back LenDale White had surgery Tuesday to repair the Achilles tendon he injured last Thursday. The surgery, performed by doctors at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic, went well, said Herman White, LenDale's uncle who helped raise LenDale here in Denver. The team has already placed White on Injured Reserve, ending his season. White is planning on going through the rehab process at Dove Valley under the supervision of the Broncos' doctors and athletic trainers."
Broncos' LenDale White done for the season
"LenDale White knew for months that he would miss the first four games of the NFL's 2010 season while serving a league-mandated suspension. The Broncos running back learned Friday that he will miss the rest of the season as well after being diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon, an injury that will require surgery and lengthy rehabilitation. White was injured Thursday night at the end of a 9-yard gain during the second quarter of the Broncos' preseason finale against the Vikings at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Broncos initially said White had an ankle injury. White left the stadium on crutches, with his left foot and lower leg heavily wrapped. This is the latest setback in what has"
NFL makes it official: LenDale White suspended 4 games
"The National Football League confirmed Thursday that running back LenDale White, who was released five weeks ago by the Seahawks, has been suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season. The Seahawks have never talked publicly about whether they knew of White's pending suspension prior to making a draft-day trade that brought him and defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson to Seattle in exchange for moving down 16 spots on two late-round draft picks. But the low price of that trade lends one to believe the Seahawks were aware they were taking on a risk. White's release is believed to have had more to do with attitude concerns and questions of whether he was on board with the team's"
LenDale White: "The Pete Carroll who ran out on USC?"
"LenDale White talked to Jim Wyatt of The Tennesseean, his first interview since being released by the Seattle Seahawks. He admitted to mistakes lots of them, including smoking marijuana since he entered the NFL. He just doesn't know what mistake prompted his release from the Seahawks, and he did state he had changed. "No one told me why I was really released, so I don't really know and I don't like to comment on what-ifs or why," White said to the Tennesseean. "Obviously it didn't work out for a reason." White was participating in the youth camp for Chris Johnson, his former teammate with the Titans."
Ex-Titans, Seahawks RB LenDale White admits to smoking marijuana while in the NFL
"Suspended RB LenDale White admitted to smoking marijuana while playing the NFL and said it was his use of the drug that triggered the four-game suspension he's facing. White, cut late last month by Seattle after being traded to the Seahawks from the Titans in April, said he has stopped using the drug. He told the Tennessean: "I did it, so it is my fault. I smoked marijuana; that is all I have ever done. That's all I do, that's it. I smoke. I don't care about any other drugs, but it's marijuana. … But I have changed. I am a good man. Unfortunately the stuff that I did in my recent past caught up to me in the present and it's affecting my future.'' The Seahawks never gave an explicit reason"
Hawks waive RB LenDale White
"LenDale White's honeymoon with the Seattle Seahawks came to an abrupt end this afternoon, as the Seahawks announced the 25-year-old running back had been released. "It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks," said General Manager John Schneider. "It just did not appear to be the right fit at this point in our program. We wish LenDale all the best with his future." It's a surprising ending to the brief tenure of White with Seattle, who appeared to be the front runner to earn the starting running back job in a competition that included last year's runners, Julius Jones and Justin Forsett, and newcomer Leon Washington. White had not seen"
Seahawks waive running back LenDale White, possible four game suspension looming
"LenDale White's Seahawks career — all 35 days of it — came to a sudden end Friday when he was waived before he ever put on pads for the Seahawks. Acquired in a draft-day trade from Tennessee to compete for a starting spot at running back, White didn't even make it to training camp. The team cited no specific reason in announcing the move, just a general but telling statement from general manager John Schneider. "It became apparent at this time LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks," Schneider's statement said. "It just did not appear to be the right fit at this point in our program. We wish LenDale all the best with his future." According to the NFL's website, White"
LenDale White looking forward to a clean slate
"LenDale White has been toward the top of the league's rushing leaders, surpassing the millennium mark in 2007 in spite of a bum wheel and extra baggage. "I've had 1,000 yards at 265 (pounds) with a torn meniscus," White said, referring to a knee injury. He has also been at the bottom of a running back rotation, watching much of last season from the sidelines in Tennessee. Oh, he understands why. He was behind one of the game's most dangerous backs as teammate Chris Johnson surpassed 2,000 yards rushing. But White is a competitor who reached the NFL with the hope of being 'The Man,' not backing him up. "Going through the situation in Tennessee, sitting the bench for the whole year, dealing"
Slimmer White ready for another chance
"If talk's cheap in the regular world, it holds even less currency in professional sports. Every camp produces stories of underachieving guys who are newly motivated to make the most of second (or last) chances. It's always best to wait and see how these things play out on the field before buying too much into self-proclamations of career rebirths. So, when running back LenDale White voices his excitement at getting a shot with the Seattle Seahawks after being picked up on the cheap from Tennessee, you might take it with a grain of salt … and perhaps a lime wedge. But seeing White on the hoof is pretty convincing evidence that he's highly motivated to get his career rebooted. At the"
Will Titans honor White's request?
"LenDale White has spoken. Now we'll see if the Titans are listening, or how much they care about what he said. I talked to the Titans running back on Friday, not long after he'd finished a workout. He said some things he'd probably been feeling for a while now, but had chosen not to voice them. White is frustrated, and wants to play. He can't stand watching games from the sideline, and can't see anything changing with the Titans, not with fellow running back Chris Johnson around. Heck, the guy is the LeBron James of the NFL. So White would like to be traded, so he could have a chance at a starting spot elsewhere. He said he's remained in good shape since season's end, ready to help. "I"
Titans running back LenDale White: Play me or trade me
"LenDale White has a message for the Titans: play me or trade me. After backing up the NFL's leading rusher in 2009, the veteran running back doesn't think the first part is an option. "I did good with it for a year, I didn't complain. I backed up greatness, a guy who ran for 2,000 yards. But now that that's over I feel like … it is time for me to start somewhere. And that is what I want to do. I want to be a starter in the NFL, not a backup,'' White said on Friday. "I would definitely be interested in a trade. I don't know where, or how (the Titans) might view that, but that is what I am hoping for. I can't see me sitting in Tennessee as a backup any more. And that goes as no disrespect to"
Fisher: LenDale White in Titans plan
"The rumor mill has been busy cranking out future destination spots for Titans running back LenDale White. First, it had him going to Seattle in a trade. He could be reunited with former USC coach Pete Carroll there, of course. Next, he was going to San Diego in a trade for Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Listen to Titans Coach Jeff Fisher, though, and it sounds like White isn't going anywhere. He shot down the Cromartie trade talk, calling it "speculation" only. And he made it clear White is in the team's plans for this fall. The Titans are expected to make a tender offer to White as a restricted free agent. He'd back up running back Chris Johnson, of course. "Basically, as I told"
White longs for playing time with Titans or elsewhere
"LenDale White has gone from being a sidekick to being on the sidelines. And though he has handled the situation well, White can't hide the fact that he would like his chance to once again be a valuable contributor either in Tennessee or, if need be, somewhere else. No longer Smash and Dash, the Titans' offense has become centered around Chris Johnson's pursuit of 2,000 yards, leaving White relegated to spot duty that sometimes means only two or three carries a game. For a player that rushed for 1,110 yards in 2007, then scored 15 touchdowns last year, such a limited role (63 carries, 221 yards) has been hard to swallow, though he doesn't begrudge his friend Johnson, who is making the most"
LenDale White takes steps to return to field
"Titans running back LenDale White was deactivated for last Sunday's game against the Cardinals after being late for Saturday's walk-through. It was the first time White had missed a game since his rookie season in 2006, but he hopes to be back in the mix - and in Coach Jeff Fisher's good graces - this Sunday against the Colts. "I hope I can do whatever coach wants me to do. Whatever I need to do for the team I'll do,'' White said. "If that is being deactivated again, that's what it will be. If coach wants me to play, I'll play.'' White acknowledged he told the Titans he'd run out of gas when he showed up late for the walk-through. Fisher said this week White "has been fine thus far'' and"
LenDale White doesn't regret towel stomp
"Titans running back LenDale White, linked to Terrible Towel stomping during last season's 30-10 rout of the Steelers at LP Field, said he would do it again in Pittsburgh if compelled to do so. The Titans and Steelers open the NFL's regular season on Thursday night at Heinz Field. "I do whatever I do at your house or my house," White said after the Titans wrapped up practice on Sunday. "Because I can buy the house I'm usually at. See what I'm saying? "If it happens to be there, I'm going to stomp all over that (pause), man. If there's a towel in the stands, I will stomp on it. I don't care who gets mad. ... If they throw a towel at me, I'm going to kick it and stomp all over it. If they"
Smash and Dash welcome new member
"Smash, Dash and a nickname to be named later. Titans running backs LenDale White and Chris Johnson are both impressed with what they've seen from fifth-round pick Javon Ringer thus far in preseason, but that said, they aren't ready to bestow him with a nickname just yet. White and Johnson have both given themselves multiple monikers since Smash and Dash, but Ringer said he is fine without one for now. "I'm just Javon Ringer. I don't really have a nickname like they do. Maybe later on, I might develop one, but I'm just plain old Javon," he said. White, who seems to be the creator of most of the nicknames, said Ringer will have to bide his time and wait till the regular season. "You don't"
Titans' White unveils new nickname, new weight, new approach
"LenDale White has a slimmer waistline, a new approach and a brand new nickname. White, who reported to training camp at 228 pounds and says he has finally learned that he needs to be in shape, has rechristened himself as "Save the Last Dance." During OTAs in June, Chris Johnson announced the breakup of "Smash and Dash" by saying he wanted to be known as "Every Coach's Dream." Now, White, who had 15 rushing touchdowns last year, explains his new moniker, which he unveiled in his first training camp interview on Saturday. "Don't call me LenDale anymore. Call me 'Save the Last Dance.' I dance every time I hit the end zone, and I want to save the last dance for the Super Bowl," White"
LenDale White won't let his fork get in way of football
"LenDale White has come too far to blow it now - he promises. Since the end of last season, the Titans running back has remained on a strict diet and been loyal to the team's offseason conditioning program. The results have shown up in his shrinking waistline, as well as on the scale - he weighed in at 229 pounds last week. But with minicamps now a thing of the past and training camp not set to begin until July 31, there's plenty of time for him to balloon, of course. Heaping barbecue plates will certainly be calling his name at Fourth of July cookouts … "It's not going to happen,'' White said, shaking his head at the suggestion. "I am not going to let it all go to waste, not the way I"
Titans White proudly announces weight
"At the start of practice, LenDale White proudly asked media members to guess his weight. In the past, White and the Titans had guarded the number with such secrecy that you would have thought it was part of next week's game plan. When the guesses game in, one reporter's answer was right on the money, as White proudly gave up the right guess "234!" According to White, that is the number he will remain at for the season. "I'm 234 pounds, and I feel great," White said. "I feel like this is my best playing weight, and I feel healthy at this weight. I feel like I'm the fast and the strongest at this weight." White, who reported for off-season work at 238 pounds, said he hasn't been this low"
LenDale White loses weight, finds focus on football
"Titans running back LenDale White has slimmed down but said he's grown up. Dogged by questions about his weight and commitment during his first three NFL seasons, White was ready for a change. But first he had to change himself. "I don't feel like I (was) the best player I could be in the past. I took time off, too much time off,'' White said. "I'm not saying I wasn't working, because I was. But I don't think I pushed myself as hard as I could. "But this is now … and I haven't felt this way about football in a long time.'' White joined the rest of his teammates on the practice field Wednesday, the second day of a minicamp. The field was a welcome sight for many veterans, who spent the"
Titans' RB White involved in incident; no charges filed
"Titans running back LenDale White was allegedly involved in an altercation during an incident earlier this month in Denver, but on Monday the city's district attorney refused to prosecute the case. The Denver police department said the case has been reviewed and "is closed.'' "He has not been charged and will not be charged,'' Denver Police Lieutenant Matt Murray said of White. "The entire incident was reviewed, the evidence was reviewed and no charges were filed.'' The NFL and the Titans are both aware of the incident, however. According to a police document where an aggravated assault offense was reviewed, the incident took place on Feb. 14 in Denver when White and other parties were"
Uncle says Titans' LenDale White is fit
"In the locker room after last month's playoff loss to the Ravens, Titans running back LenDale White vowed to work out this offseason like never before. He's kept his word, said his uncle and primary trainer, Herman White. In past offseasons, the running back's weight has ballooned, leading to questions about his workout habits. For now he's working out in his hometown of Denver, where he's running hills, trying to get quicker and having a personal chef prepare his meals. Last week he weighed in at 236 pounds, down about 4 pounds from his weight at the end of the season, Herman White said. His nephew plans to be around 230 pounds next month when he reports to Baptist Sports Park for the"
LenDale White and Chris Johnson have big day against Cleveland Browns
"Tennessee running backs LenDale White and Chris Johnson have picked up the nicknames Smash 'n' Dash for their respective running styles. White provides the muscle, Johnson the speed. They lived up to their nicknames Sunday in the Titans' 28-9 win over the Browns at LP Field. Johnson, a rookie from East Carolina, rushed for 136 yards on 19 carries. White finished with 99 yards on 24 carries. "Every team knows Tennessee -- no matter if its Smash and Dash or if its just LenDale or just me -- we're going to run the ball," said Johnson, who went over 1,000 yards for the season. "They just come in and try to stop us. That just makes us work even harder." Both White and Johnson scored a"
LenDale White is part of the me generation
"Some people saw LenDale White as a thug after he drew police citations for his disturbing behavior outside a Denver nightclub in March. That characterization must be seriously questioned now, though, because new evidence in the form of White's reaction to the Tennessee Titans' loss to the New York Jets on Sunday indicates that he is actually just brain dead. And if you're brain dead, then you're not necessarily a bad guy … you're just a dumb guy! Here was White's mature, team-first response to the Titans' first loss of the season after 10 consecutive victories - delivered while skillfully screwing the diamond stud back into his ear: • "I only played three plays, so I couldn't really"
Titans RB White gets probation
"Titans running back LenDale White was placed on probation after pleading guilty to disturbing the peace during an incident earlier this year in Denver, according to a judicial assistant in Denver’s General Sessions Court on Tuesday. White must attend an anger management class, but if he stays out of trouble for the next 12 months the case will be dismissed as part of a deferred judgement. All other charges against White were dismissed by Judge James Breese during White’s court appearance, when he paid $91 in court costs. White was placed on unsupervised probation. White was initially charged with municipal code violations of interference, resistance, refusal of an officer and destruction"
White accepts diminished role
"No one has told LenDale White he's been demoted, and the Titans running back hasn't gone into the coach's office stomping mad, looking for answers. White said he's satisfied with his reduced role on an undefeated team, and those around him said his attitude has been positive. White doesn't have much choice in the matter. He's been forced into the backseat by rookie Chris Johnson, who is off to a strong start. "I am not really upset about the way the carries are going. We're 5-0, and I know the coaches have confidence in me," White said. "Believe me, if I felt something was wrong and I needed the ball more, I have enough confidence in myself I am not going to shy down and close my mouth.""
Titans' White: Shoulder injury to blame for fewer carries
"Running back LenDale White said Tuesday that a shoulder injury that has cost him time in practice was a primary reason he got only three carries in Sunday's 13-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. White, who had split carries evenly with Chris Johnson for the first three games of the season, had 11 carries against Minnesota and scored a touchdown, but had just three rushes for four yards Sunday. Johnson had 18 rushes for 44 yards against the Ravens. "I was injured. I'm pretty sure my shoulder was down on the injury report. I didn't practice for a couple of days at the first of the week," White said Tuesday. White said he is not unhappy over his lack of carries Sunday and pointed to the"
