Kerry Collins News & Rumors

Kerry Collins '99 percent sure' he will retire
"Kerry Collins was on the Indianapolis Colts sideline and in the locker room Sunday at LP Field. It's doubtful the veteran quarterback ever steps on the field again. "I'm about 99 percent sure this is going to be it," Collins said. "When you start dealing with concussions at my age and this point in my career, I'm inclined to think this is going to be it for me." Collins, 38, was placed on the injured reserve list last week, ending his 17th NFL season. Symptoms from a concussion suffered against Pittsburgh on Sept. 25 persisted."
Collins' final season numbers for Colts: 2 TDs, 1 INT, $4 million
"The Kerry Collins experiment -- a costly $4 million for a 17th-year quarterback who completed 49 percent of his passes in three starts -- likely ended Tuesday when the Indianapolis Colts placed him on injured reserve due to a concussion. That wasn't the only bad news from the 0-7 team, either. Fullback Chris Gronkowski went on season-ending IR with a torn pectoral muscle suffered in Sunday's 62-7 loss at New Orleans. Starting left guard Joe Reitz had arthroscopic knee surgery and will be out of the lineup for an unspecified time, according to a team news release."
Colts place QB Kerry Collins on season-ending injured reserve
"The Indianapolis Colts placed veteran quarterback Kerry Collins on the injured reserve list today, ending his season. Collins was signed as a replacement for Peyton Manning and started the first three games of the season. He suffered a concussion against Pittsburgh and had not played since. Also today, the Colts signed guard Jamey Richard and tackle Michael Toudouze to the active roster, put fullback Chris Gronkowski on injured reserve, signed running back Darren Evans to the practice squad and waived receiver David Gilreath from the practice squad."
Collins still feels concussion
"The concussion quarterback Kerry Collins suffered in the Indianapolis Colts' Sept. 25 loss to Pittsburgh wasn't his first, but it apparently is the worst. "I can look back over my career and I can remember at least a half-dozen or more small ones," Collins said Thursday. "I've never had a lot of big ones, and this one's hung around longer than any I've had before. They expect me to recover fully and whenever it happens, it happens.""
Hit on Collins draws fine
"James Farrior avoided a penalty but not a fine for his late hit on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Kerry Collins in Sunday night's game. The NFL fined the Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker $15,000 for "roughing the passer," according to a league spokesman. "Specifically, on a pass play, he struck the opposing quarterback in the head and neck area.'' It's believed Farrior's third-quarter hit resulted in Collins developing concussionlike symptoms that forced him from the game in the fourth period. Those symptoms have persisted, and Collins will be replaced by Curtis Painter when the Colts play Monday night at Tampa. Farrior told Pittsburgh media he didn't agree with the discipline and"
Kerry Collins still out as Colts prepare for Bucs
"Colts coach Jim Caldwell, in his teleconference with Tampa Bay media this morning, said Indianapolis quarterback Kerry Collins will not practice today and -- at the moment -- Curtis Painter is preparing to face the Bucs on Monday night. Caldwell didn't rule out Collins, who suffered an apparent concussion against the Steelers on Sunday. "Right now Kerry is still recovering," Caldwell said. "He will not practice today. If Kerry can't go, then Curtis obviously will play for us. Obviously, he played a little bit last week and I think he's the kind of guy who will respond very well. Curtis is a tough-minded guy who has ability.""
Colts QB Kerry Collins still being evaluated for concussion
"Nothing has changed regarding the status of quarterback Peyton Manning, but it's possible the Indianapolis Colts could rearrange the pecking order behind him. Veteran Kerry Collins exited Sunday night's loss to Pittsburgh at Lucas Oil Stadium in the fourth quarter with concussion-like symptoms, yielding control of the offense to Curtis Painter. Collins still is being evaluated today, leaving open the possibility Painter would make his first career start next Monday night at Tampa Bay. "If that happens, I'll be ready,'' Painter said."
Collins' track record puts fear in Tomlin
"There will be no Ben Roethlisberger-Peyton Manning IV Sunday, a juicy matchup that no doubt prompted the NFL to schedule the game in a prime-time slot. Those watching the Steelers play at the Indianapolis Colts must settle for Kerry Collins-Roethlisberger, no Roman numerals needed. Collins was enticed out of a short retirement by the Colts because of Manning's precarious neck problems that have kept him sidelined and apparently will for quite some time. Whatever Collins provided the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans (although not Oakland) and Penn State University prior to that, he has not been able to replicate in his first two games with the Colts. But he did not sign"
QB Kerry Collins struggles as Colts lose to Texans 34-7 in season opener
"It looked like a bygone era of Indianapolis Colts football, when a drubbing like this wouldn't have been surprising. But it was 2011, and the Colts can only hope it isn't the new normal. Without injured quarterback Peyton Manning, whose streak of 227 straight starts came to an end, the Colts lost the season opener, 34-7, at Houston. The Colts trailed 34-0 at halftime. The debut of veteran Kerry Collins as Manning's replacement included two fumbles by the quarterback in the first quarter. Houston recovered both times and converted the turnovers into touchdowns. "This wasn't the day, obviously, that we'd hoped for, but it's a long season," Collins said. "I don't care what the situation is,"
Collins poised to take Colts' reins in tonight's preseason finale
"The checklist is as thorough as time has allowed. "I've been grinding at it since I've been here," said veteran quarterback Kerry Collins, signed last week to run the Indianapolis Colts' offense in the Sept. 11 regular-season opener at Houston if Peyton Manning remains in rehabilitation mode. Classroom? Check. Late nights with the playbook? Check. On-field work with center Jeff Saturday and the rest of the No. 1 offense? Check. Tonight, it's time for Collins to discover whether his cramming has produced the desired results. There's every chance he'll start in the preseason wrap-up against the Bengals in Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium. He'll definitely see extensive playing time. Although"
Colts aren't Collins' enemy anymore
"One of the more reassuring aspects of Kerry Collins' relocation to Indianapolis is that he no longer is looking over his shoulder for Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. Now, the veteran quarterback just looks across the locker room. "I'm meeting them under a little more friendly context this time, which is always nice," Collins said Monday. "I know when we played the Colts, the stress level (went) up because of those two guys. "Certainly nice to have them on my team. They've been real receptive, as has the whole team." Freeney, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, is the Colts' career sack leader with 94. Mathis ranks second with 74. Freeney has sacked Collins twice, once each in 2010 and '09"
Collins has 2-year deal with Colts
"Technically, the Indianapolis Colts signed Kerry Collins to a two-year, $14 million contract. Practically, the cost of Peyton Manning's insurance policy is $4 million for the 2011 season. On Wednesday, Collins told local media he signed a one-year deal. In fact, the contract is two years in duration. Collins got a $2.5 million signing bonus and has a 2011 base salary of $1.5 million."
Eight things to know about new Colts QB Kerry Collins
"1. Plans to settle down in Nashville, Tenn., with wife, Brooke, and daughter, Riley, when NFL career is over. 2. An avid outdoorsman who enjoys fishing and hunting for deer, wild turkey and wild boar. 3. Got life and career on track after early battles with alcoholism. As a rookie with the Carolina Panthers, reportedly was at a party, got drunk and used a racial slur as a joke. Similar incident reportedly occurred before the 1997 season. After joining the New Orleans Saints during 1998 season, was arrested for drunken driving in Charlotte, N.C. 4. Signed one-year contract with the Colts on Wednesday to back up Peyton Manning, but it might not be one-and-done. "Where it goes from here, who"
Former Titan Collins signs with Colts
"The Indianapolis Colts are bringing one veteran quarterback out of retirement. No, not that one. The Colts agreed to terms Wednesday with former Tennessee Titan Kerry Collins, making him the likely starter in case Peyton Manning isn't healed completely from offseason neck surgery by the time the season begins Sept. 11 at Houston. Collins said he has been given no indication that Manning won't play at Houston. "Hopefully, Peyton will be back, but if he's not maybe I can be one of the guys that can help this ball club," Collins said in a conference call with reporters Wednesday night. "The biggest draw for me coming here was just being with a team that I have a lot of respect for and a lot"
Collins says Young showed real 'progress' prior to meltdown
"Kerry Collins had a front-row seat as Vince Young navigated the learning curve — often unsuccessfully — of an NFL quarterback. While it is clear that Young no longer will be with the Tennessee Titans, Collins believes there is still the chance the third overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft can be productive for some team. "Really, I saw progress with him last year," Collins said. "I saw him do things and play as well and throw the ball as well as he has since he's been here. But all of the sudden some things are happening and it all goes to pot. I saw signs of him figuring it out so maybe there's hope there." In nine appearances last season, Young set career-highs for passer rating (98.6),"
Former Titan Kerry Collins insists decision to retire was right
"Kerry Collins entered the NFL as a hot-shot young quarterback in 1995, a first-round pick by the Carolina Panthers after a year when he led Penn State to an undefeated season while shattering school records. Yet after 3½ seasons, his career — and life — were going in the wrong direction. Collins struggled with alcoholism, which led to off-the-field issues. The Panthers cut him during the 1998 season. It was the low point of his 16-year career. The turn of events also was a wake-up call. Collins knew he needed to change his ways. "I really kind of looked in the mirror and said, 'What do I want my story to be?' " Collins said. "When I am 50, and look back on my NFL career, what do I want to"
Tennessee Titans tweak quarterback plans with Kerry Collins gone
"Tennessee Titans Coach Mike Munchak says he's not sure what led quarterback Kerry Collins to announce his retirement from the NFL last week. But he says Collins' decision won't change the Titans' plans to add a veteran quarterback prior to the 2011 season, given the inexperience of Rusty Smith and rookie Jake Locker. "Any time you have two young quarterbacks, obviously you want to have someone in here that's been in the league and played a little bit that can (both) kind of teach a quarterback and start," Munchak said. "We're not looking for a guy that's not capable of starting and winning games for us. We need someone that can come in here and win, and then have a nice competition between"
Titans won't consider Vince Young as Kerry Collins' replacement
"If you check the current roster, you'll notice that the Titans are not totally devoid of quarterbacks, even with Kerry Collins' surprising retirement announcement. Second-year pro Rusty Smith is on the roster. So, too, is Brett Ratliff, who has been in the league three seasons but has yet to play a down. And then there is Vince Young. Yes, Vince Young. Contractually, he's still the Titans' property. And with Collins' retirement, the chorus has come loud and strong from Young supporters that the team must reconsider its previous stance and install him at quarterback instead of trying to trade him or cut him. You've got to admire the zeal and dedication of Young's fans. They quote his stats,"
Collins exits NFL with chin up
"Seeing that this was a gym credit during summer session, I wasn't worried when my tennis instructor explained that I would play a singles match against the top seed from another class for my final exam. At least, not until I met my opponent. He stood 6-foot-5, weighed 235 pounds and bore a striking resemblance to Penn State quarterback Kerry Collins. Paying that little mind, I took my starting position at the baseline, awaiting his serve. He tossed the ball high, launching a rocket that ricocheted off my racket and then my chin. That's when I realized it was Kerry Collins. And I wasn't going to ace this test. This was 1993, a year before I would cover Collins and the Nittany Lions, as they"
Collins is out, rookie is in, ready or not
"Troy Aikman did it for Dallas in 1989, and that didn't work out so badly, did it? Ditto for Peyton Manning in Indianapolis in 1998. On the other hand, we have Ryan Leaf at San Diego in 1998 and David Carr at Houston in 2002. Inserting a rookie quarterback as your starter from Day 1 is a crapshoot. Conventional wisdom holds that it is wise to let a first-year quarterback apprentice behind a veteran NFL quarterback before throwing him into the huddle. Rule of thumb: Later rather than sooner. Based on the developments of Thursday, however, that is a luxury the Titans no longer have. Rookie Jake Locker, the No. 8 pick in the draft, should be their starting quarterback if/when the 2011 NFL"
Grass was greener for Collins elsewhere
"Quarterback Kerry Collins announced his retirement Thursday in a statement released by his agent. Collins' exit from the NFL was more benign than the way he left the Panthers. He played for five teams in 16 seasons, threw for more than 40,000 yards, earned two Pro Bowl berths and made it to the Super Bowl with the New York Giants. But it was Collins' departure from the Panthers in 1998 that fans in Charlotte will remember most about the franchise's first draft pick. In the midst of the Panthers' 0-4 start, he walked into coach Dom Capers' office and told him his heart wasn't in it anymore. The Panthers placed him on waivers the following week, ending a 31/2-year roller-coaster for Collins"
As QB, Collins drew spotlight like blitz
"In 1995, Kerry Collins was the most popular athlete in Charlotte. Back then, it didn't take much. All he had to do was show up. Collins was a quarterback, and he was the first draft pick (fifth overall in '95) the Carolina Panthers ever made. We'd had race car drivers and wrestlers and NBA players. But we had never had a genuine NFL QB who lived in our town and played for our team. Collins could walk into a bar - and he did - and the floor would tilt his way. When did the party begin? It began when the quarterback arrived. Let the alcohol and the adventures commence. Charlotte was starstruck, and we didn't care who knew. In 1996, in only their second season, the Panthers advanced to the"
Kerry Collins praised by former Giants in wake of retirement
"At one point on the road to Super Bowl XXXV - Jim Fassel can't recall exactly when - he had an emotional conversation with Kerry Collins. "I said, 'Sometimes two people just walk into each other's lives and you really need each other,'" Fassel, the Giants' former coach, said by phone today. "From my standpoint, I'm still looking for another quarterback who can step in and play. He needed somebody he could trust and develop with and all of that. And I walked into his life." Today, after 16 seasons with five teams, including the past five years with the Titans, Collins walked away from the NFL , saying in a statement his "willingness to commit to the preparation necessary to play another"
Kerry Collins, quarterback who led Giants to Super Bowl XXXV, retires from NFL after 16 seasons
"At 38, with 16 NFL seasons behind him, former Giants quarterback Kerry Collins announced his retirement Thursday, ending his five-team career with the Tennessee Titans . Collins, who starred at Penn State and was selected with the fifth pick of the 1995 draft by the Carolina Panthers , threw for 40,441 yards and 206 touchdowns in 195 games. He led the Giants to Super Bowl XXXV by destroying the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC title game, throwing for 381 yards and five touchdowns and tying a postseason record for touchdown passes set by Sid Luckman in 1943. The Giants would lose to the Ravens , 34-7, in Tampa . "I feel especially fortunate to have played under some of the"
Donnie Nickey says Vince Young drama weighed on Kerry Collins
"Safety Donnie Nickey said he was surprised to hear that quarterback Kerry Collins retired on Thursday, but did see some signs last season that the 16-year pro might be thinking about calling it quits. The longest-tenured member of the Titans at eight seasons, Nickey became good friends with Collins over the past five years in Nashville. He saw Collins record a productive 2010 season — completing 160 of his 278 passes (57.6 percent), throwing for 14 touchdowns versus eight interceptions and posting an 82.8 quarterback rating. "I know he can still play at a high level," Nickey said. "I think he was willing and wanted to help (rookie Jake Locker) out. But I guess when your mind gets made up,"
Kerry Collins will walk away from NFL, Tennessee Titans
"Less than a month after saying he would like to return to the Titans for the 2011 season, quarterback Kerry Collins announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday. His decision brings an end to the 16-year career of a quarterback who threw for more than 40,000 yards, and it eliminates the option of him serving as a possible starter and mentor for rookie quarterback Jake Locker in Nashville. Collins figured that the longer the lockout lasted, the more likely the Titans would be to re-sign him. He knew the team's personnel and was familiar with at least some of the Titans' offensive terminology, though some would have changed under new Coach Mike Munchak and offensive coordinator Chris"
Kerry Collins retires from NFL
"Titans quarterback Kerry Collins is retiring from the NFL, according to his agent. The 38 year-old Collins spent 16 years in the NFL, throwing for 40,441 yards and 206 touchdowns. He played for five NFL teams, spending his last five seasons with the Titans. Collins led his teams to the playoffs four times as a starter, including an appearance in the NFC Championship game following the 1996 season with the Panthers and a Super Bowl appearance following the 2000 season with the New York Giants. In Tennessee, Collins played in 43 games, starting 32 of those contests. He completed 613 of 1,081 passes for 33 touchdowns and 29 interceptions while with the Titans. The Titans have said they are"
Kerry Collins knows his place — both in the game and in his career
"No one has to try to read Kerry Collins' mind. Unlike the case of Brett Favre the past couple summers, all it takes to know what this veteran quarterback thinks in regard to playing this fall is to listen. He wants to play one more season — preferably for the Tennessee Titans, the team for which he has been the on-again, off-again starter for the past five seasons. And he does not simply want to collect a paycheck. "First and foremost, if I came back I'd come back to be a starter and win ball games," Collins said. "That would be my priority." There isn't necessarily an overwhelming interest in a 38-year-old who has thrown 20 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions over the past two"
Kerry Collins takes center stage … as singer
"Quarterback Kerry Collins wants to return to the Titans. But he's already been working on his fall-back plan. In fact, he turned things up a notch last week, going from songwriter to singer. Collins made a surprise appearance last week at Puckett's during the 6th Annual Trent Willmon Ropin' Party, and took the stage to perform a song he wrote with Willmon."
Kerry Collins hopes to stay with Tennessee Titans
"Kerry Collins isn't prepared to ride off into the sunset just yet. The veteran quarterback would like to return to the Tennessee Titans in 2011 and would be open to grooming rookie Jake Locker if the situation "felt right," he said Saturday. Yet Collins also knows it takes two sides to make something happen. Right now he's not sure what the Titans are thinking. "When we came to Nashville (in 2006) I told my wife, 'We are going to ride this thing out here as long as it goes and that is going to be it,' " said Collins, who is coming off his 16th NFL season. "I know I am getting near the end, but I still have good football left in me. "If it makes sense on both sides to do it, I'd be good for"
Collins would like to return to Titans in 2011
"Kerry Collins wants to nip any retirement talk in the bud. The veteran quarterback said Saturday he wants to play in 2011, and would love to return to the Titans. But he also said the situation would have to be right. "I know I still have good football left in me, and I want to see where they're at, too," Collins said of the Titans. "If it makes sense on both sides to do it, I'd be good for coming back." Collins, coming off his 16th NFL season, played in the City of Hope's Celebrity Softball Challenge on Saturday morning at Greer Stadium. He said he's been working out regularly, and is great shape. Collins spoke with new Titans Coach Mike Munchak before the NFL lockout, when he also talked"
Kerry Collins not cool as Locker's 'nursemaid'?
"There's a pretty standard presumption that Kerry Collins will wrap up his career by playing for Tennessee until a) he's done or b) Jake Locker is ready. Either possibility is probably no more than two years away, and likely only one, so it makes sense. But maybe that's not how Collins wants to wrap up his career. Titans guard Jake Scott recently said Collins might just decide to walk away, rather than play the role of "nursemaid" for Locker. "I'm not sure Kerry isn't going to say, 'I'm done,' and ride off into the sunset," Scott told Ross Tucker and Peter King on Sirius radio last week. "I don't think he wants to come back and be a nursemaid to a young kid. Money's not an issue to him.""
Tennessee Titans need Kerry Collins
"It is the five words spoken over the public address system at LP Field that many Tennessee Titans fans have grown to despise: "Starting at quarterback - Kerry Collins." Get used to it, folks. Given the circumstances, the Titans have few other viable options. Odds are, Collins will be the Titans' starting quarterback if/when the NFL season begins. Up until the Titans spent the No. 8 pick in the draft on Jake Locker, there was speculation that they might work a trade for Kevin Kolb, Carson Palmer or Kyle Orton. Free agent Matt Hasselbeck was viewed as a possibility. Now you can cross those and several other names off the list. These are guys who fancy themselves as starters, not caretakers."
With Fisher gone, Collins wonders
"Titans quarterback Kerry Collins had an uncertain future with the franchise even before Thursday's news that Coach Jeff Fisher wouldn't be back next season. On Friday, the 16-year veteran said he still plans to play in 2011, but knows his fate now rests in the hands of the coach who replaces Fisher. "It depends on who they hire. To hire someone from outside the organization, a lot of times you bring in new people they have their favorites and they have people they want to have around and people they want to part ways with,'' Collins said. "I think at this point it is a waiting game for myself and a lot of guys. "I think we all appreciate the organization as a whole, but obviously Jeff"
Kerry Collins injures teammate with bad pass
"Not much has gone right for the Titans lately, and things took an even more unusual turn Sunday when defensive end William Hayes was injured in a freak accident. Hayes was standing on the sideline when a Kerry Collins pass sailed high off the field and hit him in the head. Hayes was unable to play the rest of the game because of a concussion, Coach Jeff Fisher said. "That's kind of how the game went,'' Fisher said. "I've never had a player leave the game with a concussion after getting hit with the ball on the sideline. But we'll see how he is this week.''"
Tennessee Titans quarterback is on target to pass milestones
"Kerry Collins has a bum finger and thumb on his throwing hand, but isn't complaining. The Titans quarterback said he's also trying to ignore some other digits, ones that will be at stake in Sunday's game against the Chiefs. The 16th-year veteran is on the verge of reaching 40,000 passing yards, and is closing fast on Johnny Unitas. He's close to surpassing another Hall of Famer, Joe Montana, in career completions. "It is cool. I don't know if it hasn't hit me or is ever going to hit me,'' Collins, 37, said with a smile. "I am just focused on what we are doing here. Maybe later on down the road I will, but it is one of those things I don't think about. I have never been one of those guys"
Kerry Collins plans to be ready to play for Titans
"It's looking more likely that veteran quarterback Kerry Collins will return to the starting lineup on Sunday when the Titans host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Collins hasn't played since straining a calf muscle on Nov. 14, but practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday — his first practice since the injury. "I've come a long way since (the injury) happened," Collins said. "I'm feeling better. I'm feeling as good now as I have since it happened. I'm just trying to get my strength back and get better with every day that passes." Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said Collins has improved since Sunday, when he was the back-up behind rookie Rusty Smith. Fisher added that his return gave the Titans some"
Quarterback Kerry Collins expected to start for Titans
"The Jaguars will likely face Titans quarterback Kerry Collins on Sunday and are preparing like it. "Kerry warmed up last week," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "He moved around a little bit before the game. They decided to hold him, but there's no way he doesn't make this one." Collins is recovering from a calf strain that kept him out of last Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. Collins played against the Jaguars in October's Monday night game in relief of Vince Young, who was injured in the first quarter. Young is now on injured reserve. Collins completed 11-of-16 passes and threw a touchdown. "They are certainly playing better now than when we played them," Collins said of the"
Kerry Collins could start Sunday
"Titans Coach Jeff Fisher didn't rule out Kerry Collins as the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against Jacksonville. Collins has missed two games because of a strained calf muscle, but he was healthy enough to back up rookie Rusty Smith against the Texans. "He pushed through some things well before the pregame warm-ups and felt good, felt like he could finish the game if need be," Fisher said Monday during his weekly press conference. The 16th-year pro's status this week will be day-to-day. Fisher also said Smith will start again if Collins isn't ready. Fisher ruled out Chris Simms as the starter. Smith went 17-for-31 with three interceptions and a quarterback rating of 26.7 against"
Kerry Collins can't help Titans now...
"Kerry Collins would love to be able to step in and bail the Titans out of their quarterback crisis. Right now, however, he's still in no position to do so. Collins is still recovering from a calf injury he suffered against Miami on November 14. He's expected to miss a few more weeks at a time when the team is handing the job over to rookie Rusty Smith. Vince Young is out not only because of a thumb injury that may require surgery, but because he had a confrontation with Coach Jeff Fisher after Sunday's loss to the Redskins. His season - and career - could be over in Tennessee."
Titans knock out two Miami quarterbacks
"The Titans played dominoes with the Dolphins quarterbacks on Sunday, knocking them down — and out — one after another. Chad Pennington, making his first start of the season, was sidelined after just two plays with a shoulder injury. Chad Henne left in the third quarter with a knee injury. "We are a physical front four and things like that happen,'' said Titans defensive end Jason Babin, who delivered the hit on Pennington. "It should be to our advantage. You knock out the first one, knock out the second one. You'd think that would have helped us. … But they came back with some answers.'' The Dolphins came back with No. 3 quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who finished off the Titans. It was"
Tennessee Titans' Kerry Collins appears likely to start
"Titans quarterback Vince Young was limited in practice Friday because of an ankle injury, raising doubt that he will play Sunday against the Dolphins. Kerry Collins took the bulk of the snaps, giving every indication that he would be the starter. Collins also worked after practice with new receiver Randy Moss. Young, who did not practice Tuesday or Wednesday, is questionable on the injury report and is a game-time decision, Coach Jeff Fisher said. Young was limited in practice Thursday and Fisher "backed him down" Friday. "Vince was limited. We'll warm him up (Sunday) and see how he does,'' Fisher said. Young re-aggravated his left ankle injury during the Oct. 31 game against the Chargers,"
Vince Young, Kerry Collins split time at practice with Tennessee Titans
"Titans quarterback Vince Young can hardly wait to throw to Randy Moss on Sundays, but first he has to get healthy enough to play. Young (ankle) took a positive step Thursday as he returned to practice, but his status for Sunday's game at Miami remains uncertain after he split reps with backup Kerry Collins. Young sat out practices Tuesday, Wednesday and all of the bye week. Coach Jeff Fisher said the plan is for Young to get the bulk of the starter's reps today. Young said his status is day to day. "You have to take your time and be smart about the whole situation. We still have a long season," Young said. "Yes, I want to be out there playing but if (the injury) won't let me play I won't"

Kerry Collins demonstrates value of NFL experience
"We waited and waited for Kerry Collins to arrive in the media interview room. I could envision the Titans quarterback taking a Bengay bath to ease the aches and pains of a physical, come-from-behind win over Philadelphia. Collins is now 37 years old. This is his 16th season in the NFL, his fifth team. His hair is thinning on top and his beard has turned white. When he came into the league as a first-round draft pick out of Penn State, Collins would be sore on Monday. By Tuesday, the pain would subside. By Wednesday, he was feeling normal and ready for the next game. "Now it hangs along, a little longer into the week,'' Collins laughed. "It just takes a little bit longer to recover, but I"
Collins replaces injured Young; Titans cruise past Jacksonville
"Kerry Collins threw for 110 yards and one touchdown after he replaced an injured Vince Young and led the Tennessee Titans to a 30-3 victory over the Jaguars on Monday in Jacksonville. One year to the day since his last start – a 59-0 loss to the New England Patriots – Collins came on with 8:15 to play in the first quarter after Young sustained a sprained knee while being tackled after a fumbled snap. His first play was a 20-yard completion to Damian Williams on third-and-12. He finished 11-for-16 overall and did not attempt a pass in the fourth quarter. Collins, the 15-year veteran, and Williams, the third-round draft pick, connected four times for 48 yards. It was a career-high in"
Vince Young leaves game in first quarter with sprained knee
"No Vince Young? No problem. Even with their quarterback knocked out of the game midway through the first quarter with a sprained knee, the Titans embraced a starring role on Monday Night Football, bludgeoning Jacksonville 30-3 with Kerry Collins in the role of relief pitcher. "That's why Kerry's here," Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said. Although there was no final word on the extent of Young's injury, it does not appear to be serious. But the situation could be complicated by a short work week before the Titans play at home against Philadelphia on Sunday. Coupled with the 34-27 victory at Dallas last week, it marked the first time this season the Titans have put together back-to-back wins. It"
Fisher: Vince Young still starting QB
"Titans Coach Jeff Fisher suspects he has ticked off his starting quarterback. Now he expects Vince Young to respond by putting Sunday's benching behind him and working to get better. On Monday, Fisher stood by his controversial decision and reiterated Young would remain the starter going forward, beginning this Sunday when the Titans (1-1) visit the Giants (1-1). Fisher pulled a struggling Young in the fourth quarter of a 19-11 loss to the Steelers and inserted Kerry Collins, who passed for 149 yards and led a touchdown drive but also threw an interception and fumbled twice.
