Kemba Walker News & Rumors

Kemba Walker, Byron Mullens lead Bobcats' youth movement
"When you're mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with a month left in the season, there's no downside to taking the long view, right? Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas plans to lean toward youth in his rotation in the remaining 16 games. That started Saturday against the Detroit Pistons, when Silas started power forward Byron Mullens and swingman Reggie Williams. It will continue tonight in Toronto, when Silas plans to start rookie Kemba Walker at point guard."
Bobcats rookie Kemba Walker to take over point
"Charlotte Bobcats fans clamoring for more of rookie Kemba Walker should get all they want the rest of this week. Point guard D.J. Augustin is out the next two games and probably longer for treatment of an inflamed right big toe. Augustin has been in serious pain most of the past two weeks, and finally had to leave Sunday's loss to the New Jersey Nets during the first quarter. Augustin was scheduled to have an injection to relieve the pain, but there's no timetable for how long he'll be out."
Bobcats' Kemba can do
"One of the bright spots for the Nets so far this season has been the play of rookie MarShon Brooks. In a 97-87 loss to the Nets last night at Prudential Center, Kemba Walker showed why he's arguably the lone bright spot for the Bobcats. Playing without starters Corey Maggette and D.J. Augustin, who sat after playing a few minutes in the first quarter, Walker led the Bobcats with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in 32-plus minutes. "I hope Kemba can continue to play well," Bobcats coach Paul Silas said. "He's got to get his rest, eat properly ... all of those things."
D.J. Augustin - Kemba Walker backcourt could energize Bobcats
"The debut was spectacular: Shifting to a D.J. Augustin-Kemba Walker backcourt and moving forward Boris Diaw to the bench resulted in a 112-100 victory Saturday over the Golden State Warriors. Just don't think this is a panacea to the Charlotte Bobcats' struggles, and that there's nothing more to adjust. The Bobcats are quicker, faster, more attacking and more energetic, based on Saturday's performance. They scored 48 points in the lane and shot 50 percent from the field. Walker scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting."
Bobcats' Walker plagued by uneven start
"Three weeks into his first NBA season, Charlotte Bobcats rookie Kemba Walker isn't anything like dominant. The word is inconsistent, and that might understate the early on/off nature of the way he's played. Monday night at 7:30 the Bobcats play the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, where last season Walker conquered the Big East tournament as a prelude to winning the national championship with Connecticut. These days, Walker impacts an NBA game one out of every three tries."
Bobcats have 'it' in rookie Walker, who scores 18 in debut
"It was only an exhibition. And Kemba Walker only shot 4-of-13 from the field. And he worked primarily against Atlanta's second- and third-team guards. But every time Walker had the ball you sat up a little straighter and stopped talking with the people next to you because you knew something was going to happen and it probably was going to be good. Walker, whom Charlotte selected with the ninth pick in the 2011 NBA draft, scored 18 points in 19 minutes. The Bobcats scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, and Walker scored eight of them. He scored the final five. He hit a 19-foot jump shot with 91 seconds remaining to give Charlotte a 76-75 lead. After the Hawks scored, he drove into the"
Delivery bridges Charlotte Bobcats' team-fan gap
"Kemba Walker climbs the six steps from the sidewalk to the porch. "What do I do?" he asks. "Just knock on the door," a marketing man tells him. Walker, who on Tuesday has been a Charlotte Bobcat two days, knocks. Nothing happens. Walker waits. Ten seconds later the door opens, a little Merry Christmas cushion hanging from the inside knob. "Oh, my God!" Elizabeth Peeler says. Peeler, 67, takes a second look. Walker, who wears an Under Armour hooded sweatshirt, sweats and Under Armour shoes, is still there. "Oh, my God!" she says. They were expecting a cousin from Hawaii. They get the ninth pick in the NBA draft instead."
Kemba Walker stakes place in mid-range
"Tiny Archibald. That was Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas' analogy Sunday, when asked to describe the old-school vibe apparent in rookie Kemba Walker's approach to basketball. It's flattering - Archibald was a five-time All-Star between 1974 and 1983. It's also telling. Like Walker, Archibald was a 6-foot-1 point guard in a land of giants. Like Archibald, Walker has developed a craftiness allowing him to create open mid-range shots against taller defenders. The Bobcats drafted Walker ninth overall last June, but Sunday was the first day he could get into a practice. The lockout canceled summer league, then Walker missed the first two days of training camp while details of his"
Kemba Walker goes from being NCAA champ to locked-out NBA rookie
"He was the first player to arrive at the Coolidge High School gym Saturday afternoon, wearing a navy T-shirt, jeans and a baseball cap. Barely 6-foot and a slim 172 pounds, Kemba Walker simply blended into the crowd until it was time to suit up for the game, which started an hour late. A second-team All-America point guard from Connecticut, Walker led the Huskies to the 2011 national championship, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and decided he was ready for the NBA. He declared for the draft and was selected with the ninth pick by the Charlotte Bobcats. Ten days later, the NBA players were locked out."
Mark Cuban drops in at Dyckman League, watches Kemba Walker
"Mavericks owner Mark Cuban hit the playground on Friday, spending a few minutes watching Mavericks forward Corey Brewer and Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Bobcats at Dyckman Park in New York City. He did not, however, speak to them -- the lockout prohibits contact between players and management. Cuban, whose team won its first NBA championship in June, shook hands, posed for pictures and sat in a beach chair before exiting, according to ESPN.com. "I love anywhere where there's basketball. Anywhere where there's people coming out and having fun is always a good thing, man," Cuban said as he exited the park. "I'm glad Greg (Marius, CEO of the EBC) brought me out to be apart of it. I wish I"
Kemba Walker signs Under Armour endorsement deal
"Under Armour is making a large footprint in the Charlotte market this year -- two of them, in fact. The apparel giant announced today that it has signed Bobcats rookie point guard Kemba Walker to a multiyear endorsement deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The announcement comes just a couple of months after Under Armour signed a similar deal with Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in the April draft. Newton's deal reportedly is worth $1 million a year. Walker, the ninth overall pick in last month's draft, will wear Under Armour footwear for practices and in games. Walker and Newton enjoyed similar successes as juniors during their final seasons. Both led"
Augustin, Walker might play together
"The fight to be the Charlotte Bobcats' starting point guard next season will be one of the most competitive on the team, with incumbent D.J. Augustin trying to fend off rookie Kemba Walker. But coach Paul Silas brought up an interesting point Wednesday, wondering aloud if the two undersized point guards could play alongside each other during some stretches of a game. "Can these two guys play together?" Silas asked. "I'm not sure about that right now ... If they do, I'm sure we're going to have to do something other than play a man-to-man (defense), so we're going to have to figure all that out. If we can figure out how they play together defensively, we're going to have a real plus on"
Draftees get first taste of Charlotte
"Kemba Walker poses for pictures in front of a large white screen in a little room at the Seigle Point Community Center Friday. He twists, turns, dribbles, flexes, flicks the ball and tries to comply when he's asked to look gangster. But he's menacing only on the court. Walker is 6-1, weighs 172 pounds and was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats Thursday with the ninth pick in the NBA draft. At Connecticut, Walker was magic. He led the Huskies, an among-other-teams-receiving-votes group most of the season, to the Big East championship and the NCAA championship. He was the best player on college basketball's best team, and whatever the Huskies required - points, passes, poise or a push - he"
Charlotte Bobcats send top scorer Jackson to Bucks; draft Biyombo, Walker
"In one of the biggest trades in Charlotte Bobcats history - and that covers a lot of ground - the team has dealt away captain Stephen Jackson in a three-way transaction that acquired the No.7 overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft. Armed with the seventh and ninth selections, the Bobcats chose shotblocker/rebounder Bismack Biyombo of the Congo and Connecticut point guard Kemba Walker. With this move the Bobcats continue to dismantle the team that reached the playoffs in the spring of 2010. Jackson, Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler have all departed over the last 12 months. In their place is a team that will be young, will probably lose a lot next season, but is more in line"
