Justin Fargas News

Fargas' first stop in searching for new team: Chiefs
"Raiders fans might still get to watch Justin Fargas run next season. It just won't be for their team. One day after Oakland released the running back, Fargas said in a phone interview Sunday he has a visit lined up Tuesday with the Chiefs, an AFC West rival during his seven seasons with the Raiders. His agent has also been in contact with other teams, Fargas said, including the 49ers. He said he certainly doesn't mind the idea of moving across the bay to team up with Niners running back Frank Gore, who by all accounts could use a punishing partner in the backfield. "That could be something," said Fargas, whose two most productive seasons came in 2007-08 under former Raiders running backs ..."
Raiders bid farewell to RB Justin Fargas
"The Raiders parted ways with running back Justin Fargas on Saturday in a move that saves them approximately $2.5 million and clears the way for Darren McFadden and Michael Bush to get more playing time. Fargas, 30, spent seven seasons with the Raiders and was the most-tenured position player on the roster, along with linebacker Sam Williams. His best campaign came in 2007, when he supplanted LaMont Jordan as the lead back and rushed for 1,009 yards. Fargas started 14 games in 2008 and rushed for a team-high 853 yards. However, his rushing average dropped to 3.8 yard per carry in 12 games last season. It's conceivable the Raiders will re-sign Fargas at some point, though at a much lower ..."
Warren, Fargas could be cut
"ESPN's Adam Schefter is expecting defensive tackle Gerard Warren and running back Justin Fargas to be released before scheduled bonus payments are due early this month."
3-back attack hasn't helped
"Raiders running back Darren McFadden is a home run-hitting playmaker, geared to accelerate for monster gains. This season, he has no rushes for more than 15 yards. Starting running back Justin Fargas is a between-the-20s thrasher, who had only seven touchdowns in his first six seasons. This season, he's the red-zone back and goal-line runner. Former starting running back Michael Bush is a pounder who gets better as the games gets longer. He barely gets off the bench anymore. Confused? So are the Raiders, who lost their identity as a run-first offense while searching for a vertical passing game. "We all just accept our role, whatever it is, and we give our best effort when we get our ..."
Raiders were fired up by Tomlin's remark
"The cry came from an unidentifiable voice among the Oakland Raiders' running backs, likely Justin Fargas: "Let's get out of this hell-hole." You can bet the Raiders paid attention to Mike Tomlin's highlight quote in the aftermath of the overtime loss to Baltimore about unleashing a version of Hades in the next game, against Oakland. The Raiders, with fans infamous for their studded collars, instead put a leash on the Steelers yesterday, 27-24. "It helped motivate us," offered quiet center Samson Satele. "Oh, yeah. We had his comments up on the board," added receiver Todd Watkins. "That kind of drove us all week, when you make a statement like that. A similar situation when [Antonio] Pierce ..."
Ellis and Fargas questionable against Steelers
"On a weekly television appearance on a local Sunday night postgame show, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha talked about having to prepare for two quarterbacks for this week's game in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Raiders coach Tom Cable seemed to have little doubt as to which one will be the starter. "All indications are Ben (Roethlisberger) will be back," Cable said. The Steelers, who lost overtime games to Kansas City and Balitmore over the past two weeks, turned to San Leandro High School and Oregon product Dennis Dixon against Baltimore. Dixon started the season as the No. 3 quarterback and was elevated to No. 2 when Charlie Batch was lost fo rthe season to a wrist injury. When it was ..."
Report: Raiders may deal either Fargas or Bush
"The Oakland Raiders are ready to trade either Justin Fargas or Michael Bush, according to a report on CBS Sports this morning.

CBS analyst Charley Casserly reported that the Raiders, who have three solid running backs in Fargas, Bush and rookie Darren McFadden, would be willing to deal either Fargas or Bush. Casserly said that Bush, in his second year from Louisville, would be the most likely to be dealt."

Fargas back on field, eyes return for Saints
"Running back Justin Fargas returned to practice Monday after missing the past two weeks with a groin injury he sustained in the first half of the Raiders-Kansas City Chiefs game Sept. 14. He said he isn't 100 percent but intends to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. "You would like to feel 100 (percent)," Fargas said, "but I don't think I'm there yet. I still have time. I'm still working. If I can go, I'm going to go." Coach Tom Cable said the bye week helped Fargas in his bid to return to the starting lineup. "He was champing at the bit to go (Monday) and did a lot of work, good work," Cable said. "We really pushed him on Thursday and through the weekend with his rehab, so we ..."
Fargas practices, with New Orleans in mind
"Raiders running back Justin Fargas practiced for the first time in three weeks Monday, taking a gigantic step toward returning to the starting lineup Sunday at New Orleans. "We kind of limited him but, if you know him, he was champing at the bit to just go, and did a lot of work," interim head coach Tom Cable said. "It was good to see him out there, good to see that one-cut downhill guy." Still no return sign of rookie backup Darren McFadden, who watched practice yet again with a protective boot covering his turf toe. His slow recovery makes Fargas' comeback all the more invaluable to an offense that leads the AFC with 155 rushing yards per game but was held to less than 100 rushing yards ..."
Fargas could be out for a few weeks
"Oakland Raiders running back Justin Fargas could be out for an extended period of time, according to ESPN, which reported that his injured groin may sideline him for "a few weeks." Raiders rookie Darren McFadden, who rushed for 164 yards in his second NFL game last Sunday against Kansas City, woule presumably step in for Fargas. Still, McFadden is slowed by turf toe and his status for Sunday's game at Buffalo hasn't been determined."
