Forsett, Jones have roles in Mora's plan
"Should reserve running back Justin Forsett's recent success be that much of a surprise? The shifty, second-year runner out of California has been a godsend for a Seattle Seahawks running game needing a jolt. Forsett has jump-started Seattle's offense, rushing for more than 100 yards twice in the past three games. But in the search for a key to his success, look no further than offensive coordinator Greg Knapp's zone blocking scheme. Forsett has been playing in that system since his freshman year with the Golden Bears. It's no wonder he darts through holes like he has seen them before. He has. "I came from the zone blocking scheme from Cal so I've always been comfortable in it, and I think ..."
Don't be surprised if Forsett and Jones split time
"Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Greg Knapp stuck with the company line that Julius Jones remains his team's starting running back when healthy, but it's sounding as if Jones will split more carries this week as he returns from a bruised lung suffered three weeks ago. Jones practiced fully on Wednesday for the first time since being hospitalized in Phoenix after coughing up blood and suffering the internal injury on a first-quarter block against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 15. With backup Justin Forsett running for a career-high 130 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-17 win at St. Louis, many are wondering why he hasn't earned a promotion after providing a spark to the team's ..."
Forsett has been impressive, but injured Julius Jones remains Seahawks' No. 1 running back
"At 5 feet 8, Justin Forsett won't stand out in a crowd. He is, however, more than capable of running his way through one. After surpassing 100 yards rushing twice in the past three games, Forsett has sprinted to the forefront of Seattle's offense, yet coach Jim Mora isn't quite ready to write Forsett's name in permanent ink ahead of Julius Jones on Seattle's depth chart. "Julius is our starting running back," Mora said. "He's our starting running back. That's what he is." For now. Jones hasn't played since suffering a bruised lung in the first quarter of Seattle's game at Arizona on Nov. 15. He was coughing up blood as recently as last week, and all that has happened over the past three ..."
Mora says Julius Jones still Seattle's top RB
"Everyone thinks the Seahawks have found a new lead running back in Justin Forsett. Everyone except Jim Mora. "No, Julius is our starter. He's our starting running back," Seattle's coach said Monday, adding that he hasn't even thought about demoting Julius Jones while he remains pained by a bruised lung. Forsett has emerged as a diminutive dynamo while Jones, signed to replace Shaun Alexander as Seattle's No. 1 rusher before last season, has been out. The 5-foot-8 Forsett, drafted in the seventh round out of California in 2008, ran for 123 yards three weeks ago at Arizona. Sunday at St. Louis, the 24-year-old filled in again for Jones and romped for 130 yards on 22 carries with two ..."
Banged-up Jones might run in place
"The Seattle Seahawks may go with reserve running back Justin Forsett as the starter for a second straight week. Starting tailback Julius Jones was a limited participant in practice for a second consecutive day on Friday and is questionable for Sunday's contest against St. Louis. Seahawks head coach Jim Mora said Jones will be a game-time decision for Sunday. "You've seen him work both days, limited," Mora said. "There's some things that look good, and there's just some questions that we have. So with two more days of rest we'll have a better feel." Jones suffered a bruised lung in the first quarter against Arizona two weeks ago while blocking in pass protection against Cardinals ..."
No word on who will start at running back for the Seahawks
"Running back Julius Jones is questionable for Sunday's game in St. Louis. The same status applies to Seattle's running game. Actually, calling the Seahawks' ground game questionable after last week's 4-yard debacle in Minnesota is downright charitable considering it's the second time in five weeks that the new running game installed under offensive coordinator Greg Knapp has bottomed out with a franchise low in single-game rushing yards. "It's a frustrating time for us," coach Jim Mora. "And Greg and I in particular in terms of running the football. We have not experienced this." On Sunday, Seattle will face St. Louis. The Seahawks ran for 167 yards against the Rams in the season-opener. ..."
Julius Jones won't play this week against Vikings
"Seattle Seahawks running back Julius Jones will miss this Sunday's game at Minnesota due to his bruised lung, but could be back next week, coach Jim Mora said Wednesday. Jones was injured in the first quarter of Sunday's 31-20 loss at Arizona and spent one night in a Phoenix hospital, but is back with the Seahawks attending meetings as the team prepares for this week's game against the 8-1 Vikings. "He says he's feeling good, but he won't be available Sunday," Mora said. "We'll see how he progresses. Hopefully (he'll be back) next week. We have to be careful though." Second-year back Justin Forsett will start in Jones' place after rushing for a career-best 123 yards on 17 carries against ..."
Julius Jones bruised but not broken
"Julius Jones suffered a bruised chest, coach Jim Mora said, and not a broken rib as he initially thought after the game. Mora clarified the injury during his radio show on KIRO-FM Monday morning. The bruised chest caused bleeding into Jones' lungs, and he remained in Arizona last night at the hospital after the team left. "It wasn't a rib. It's a bruise causing bleeding in his lungs," Mora said, according to a summary on the team's official Web site. "It doesn't appear to be anything real serious. It's serious obviously or he wouldn't be in a hospital, but it's something he'll recover from quickly."
Seahawks RB Jones fractures rib
"Seattle Seahawks running back Julius Jones fractured a rib during the first quarter of a 31-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. Seattle head coach Jim Mora said Jones would spend the night in a local hospital as a precautionary measure. "There's an issue there, but he's not in any danger," said Mora. "We're going to play it safe.""
