During his pre-draft press conference on Tuesday, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman did not announce the signing but did say that they had done plenty of research on Simpson, who visited Minnesota last weekend. "First reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter and confirmed through an Enquirer league source, Jerome Simpson will be suspended for three games for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy. The facts that Simpson had no prior criminal record and circumstances about the case are why the suspension was one game less than expected. The policy states for violations of law that a player will normally be subject for discipline up to and including suspension for four regular season or playoff games for a first violation of law related to substances of abuse. "For the first time since the investigation into a 2.5 pound of package of marijuana to his Northern Kentucky home started, Jerome Simpson addressed reporters on Thursday. Briefly. Simpson didn't address the continuing investigation and only answered one question before leaving his locker. When asked how things were going this week, Simpson said: "Practice is going good. Glad I get to prepare for the Buffalo Bills. God bless. Keep the faith. I'm done (with this interview)." There remains no word on if charges are expected against Simpson. "Authorities did not know they were about to converge on the residence of a Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver as they traced a package of drugs mailed from California to Northern Kentucky this week. When they rang the doorbell, they found Jerome Simpson inside, a federal official said Thursday. "It is not like the package was stamped Jerome Simpson, Cincinnati Bengals," said Michelle Gregory, spokeswoman for the California Department of Justice. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Police asked to search the condominium on Mansion Place, and Simpson consented, she said.
