Jermichael Finley News & Rumors

Packers and Finley compromise on a two-year deal
"Rather than get caught up in a long, drawn-out struggle to get a long-term deal done, the Packers and tight end Jermichael Finley have agreed on a two-year deal, an NFL source said Wednesday night. The deal will net Finley $5.75 million in 2012 and $8.25 million in '13. The two sides were facing the possibility of going to arbitration over a franchise designation and a possible long holdout during the off-season until a shift in negotiations occured and Finley agreed to go for a short-term deal that will allow him another bite at free agency at age 26. Finley's agent, Blake Baratz, presented the Packers with a compromise deal Tuesday, according to an NFL source familiar with the"
Pack interested in signing Finley to long-term deal, agent says
"The Green Bay Packers are interested in signing Jermichael Finley to a long-term deal and would rather not use the franchise tag on the tight end, Finley's agent said Thursday. "We've been speaking and they've made it clear they would like him to be back there and Jermichael's made it clear he would like to be back there," Blake Baratz said. "Now that the season's over there's a little more time to time to focus on the particulars.""
McCarthy sees bright future for Finley
"Packers coach Mike McCarthy spent a good deal of time during his season-ending press conference talking about tight end Jermichael Finley. It could be a good indication the Packers have every intention of bringing Finley back next season. Finley, who completed his fourth season, will become an unrestricted free agent. The Packers have three choices: they can let him go in free agency; they can sign him to a long-term contract; or they can put a franchise tag on him and ensure he stays in Green Bay for at least one more year at a higher salary."
Packers' Finley sits out practice, and McCarthy seems a bit miffed
"Greg Jennings is out, Ryan Pickett is back, Randall Cobb is iffy, Bryan Bulaga is close and Jermichael Finley is a bit of a sore subject. That, in a nutshell, is the Green Bay Packers' injury situation heading into their game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that Jennings was a no-go even though the injured receiver ran vigorously along the sideline during practice. He did not do any cutting or full-out sprints, so it's clear he's still in the process of building strength in his sprained left knee. Pickett returned to practice for the first time since suffering a concussion against Oakland on Dec. 11 and is cleared to play. Cobb, who"
Packers' Finley keeps focus on field, not fans
"There isn't a bigger target than Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley. Not on the field or off it. At 6-5, 247 pounds, Finley continually attracts the eye of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who last week against Kansas City directed 10 passes in his direction, twice as many as he did any other receiving option. Flamboyant and über-confident, the 24-year-old Finley also attracts the wrath of fans who think he ought to let his play speak for itself, and worry less about his next contract and more about the seven passes thrown at him that weren't completed."
Packers' Finley expects another big game
"Jermichael Finley seemed unstoppable when the Packers visited Soldier Field in September. The Green Bay tight end sees no reason he won't enjoy the same success Sunday night at Lambeau Field. Finley caught three touchdown passes in the Packers' 27-17 victory in Week 3. He has only three touchdowns in 11 games since. "They still play the same 'D' and they still have the same players, plus I'm trying to get off the ground right now, so it's going to be a long day for them,'' Finley said in a phone interview Thursday. "Of course I think I can do the same thing against them.''"
Packers TE Finley says no progress has been made on new deal
"It appears more and more likely the Green Bay Packers will place the franchise tag on tight end Jermichael Finley, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Saturday that there have not been any recent talks between the tight end's agent and the Packers. Finley is in the final year of his contract, which pays him $1.2 million this season. He told the newspaper that no progress have been made on a new deal. The Journal Sentinel also reported that if the two sides can't agree on a long-term deal, the Packers likely are to place a franchise tag on Finley in March."
Finley's versatility makes him a potent weapon
"There are parts of tight end Jermichael Finley's game you can identify with no difficulty at all. There are the catches (42), the yards (600) and the touchdowns (six). There are the drops (nine), the false-starts (four) and the lapses in blocking (occasional). There are the complaints to the officials (a few too many) and the brash statements (fewer than in previous years). There are all those things that make Finley as recognizable on the field as any member of the Green Bay Packers. Then there are the things you probably don't see at all. Like the incredibly long list of plays he has to run from one of five positions he plays for the NFL's fourth-leading offense. Like the attention"
Talk with Packers coach puts Finley at ease
"Tight end Jermichael Finley had a little more bounce to his step Wednesday after having a discussion with coach Mike McCarthy. Finley, the Green Bay Packers' budding star, was frustrated after the Denver game Sunday that he was double-teamed a lot and had only three catches for 28 yards. He said he was happy the team rolled up 500 yards of offense, but reiterated that it is important quarterback Aaron Rodgers gets the ball in his playmakers' hands. Finley said he felt better about things after speaking with McCarthy. "He just told me to keep running my routes hard, that the ball was going to come my way," Finley said. "It's going to come.""
No talks yet between Packers and Finley
"Last week, ESPN's Tom Jackson didn't believe in Packers tight end Jermichael Finley. (Finley responded with three touchdown receptions.) This week, there's a question as to whether the Packers believe in Finley. Charley Casserly of CBS reports that the Packers have had no talks with Finley on a long-term deal. Finley is due to become a free agent after the season. Per Casserly, the Packers want to see more of a body of work from Finley, who missed most of last season with a leg injury."
Packers just line up and move
"Maybe it was fitting that coach Mike McCarthy would turn Aaron Rodgers loose in the no-huddle offense Friday night in the same city in which Peyton Manning turned the no-huddle into an exquisite form of football art. Rodgers more than did his part, providing a worthy facsimile of the spread attack in the Green Bay Packers' 24-21 exhibition victory over the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Packers won it with their shock troops, scoring a touchdown on an 11-yard pass to tight end Ryan Taylor with 35 seconds left, a 2-point conversion on another pass to Taylor and a field goal from 50 yards by Mason Crosby as time expired. Green Bay improved to 2-1 this summer and 14-16 in its"
Packers TE Jermichael Finley a popular target in return to action
"Think Jermichael Finley isn't going to be Aaron Rodgers' go-to guy again? His 2011 debut would suggest otherwise. The Green Bay Packers tight end was Rodgers' target on three straight plays when they went to the no-huddle offense in the second quarter of Friday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field. Finley caught all three of them - a 6-yard out, a 7-yard quick hitter and a 17-yard crossing route - to help set up the only touchdown by the starting offense in a 28-20 victory. "That's big right there," Finley said. "If your quarterback has confidence to throw you a ball, and you get 5 yards and then throw it again down the field for 15, that's confidence in the"
