Jason Blake News & Rumors

Ducks' Blake could return ahead of schedule
"The Ducks could be getting a valuable addition to their lineup as their six-game homestand continues on next week. Jason Blake's original timetable for his recovery from a torn tendon in his left wrist was supposed to be mid-to-late January but Coach Bruce Boudreau said that it is possible the veteran winger could be back for either the club's home game against San Jose on Wednesday or the New York Islanders next Friday. Blake is back to practicing regularly with the Ducks after needing surgery and needing 2 1/2 months of recovery time after having the part of his arm right above his left wrist cut when San Jose defenseman Brent Burns inadvertently stepped on it during the Oct. 14 home"
Anaheim Ducks' Jason Blake to be out three months
"Ducks veteran forward Jason Blake, who suffered a severe cut above his left wrist in Friday night's game against the San Jose Sharks, will have surgery Monday to repair damage to a tendon. The team announced Saturday that Blake will be out of action for about three months but is expected to make a full recovery. He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange immediately after the game and received sutures to close the wound. His surgery, to be performed by Dr. David Hay, will be at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic. Blake was released from UCI Medical Center on Saturday morning."

Blake, Emery lead Ducks past Blues, 2-1
"Playing for their postseason lives, the Ducks came back from a 1-0 deficit behind two Jason Blake goals to survive St. Louis on Wednesday, 2-1. Blake scored the game-winner at the 1:50 mark of the third period, deflecting Lubomir Visnovsky's shot past Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak. Saku Koivu also assisted. The victory pushed the Ducks' point total to 81, matching Calgary for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Flames have 10 games remaining to the Ducks' 12. Ray Emery, making his first start in goal as a Duck, stopped 30 of 31 shots. He made his Ducks debut Sunday, playing the third period in a loss to Phoenix."
Blake's 200th goal 'special'
"It was a milestone night for the Ducks' Jason Blake on a big evening for his team. Blake celebrated his 800th game in the NHL on Tuesday night by scoring his 200th career goal in the third period, providing the Ducks with the eventual winner in a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. The veteran winger capped a lengthy shift by picking up Saku Koivu's pass behind the net and stepping out to flip an impressive backhander past Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason to give the Ducks a two-goal lead early in the third period. "I thought we had great shifts all game long," Blake said, referring to linemates Koivu and Teemu Selanne. "I just think for our line, if we keep"
Blake still trying to fit in
"Not having the luxury of spending an entire training camp and several months of games with his current teammates, Ducks winger Jason Blake acknowledges that "it's kind of a work in progress" in fitting in. But since he came over from Toronto in the Jean-Sebastien Giguere deal, Blake has been given the opportunity to play with fellow offensive players Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne. It makes sense. The Ducks took on a contract that has $6 million left over the next two seasons, so they might as well see what they can get out of the 36-year-old veteran right now and beyond. "Chemistry is something that's very important," Blake said Friday. "People don't realize that it usually doesn't happen"
Leafs put hopes on veteran goalie Giguere
"He was harpooned as a Hartford Whaler, the team that drafted him in the first round in 1995. He flamed out as a minor leaguer in Calgary's organization for three years. It wasn't until he joined the Ducks in Anaheim in 2000 — and goaltender coach Francois Allaire in particular — that Jean-Sebastien Giguere would emerge as a Conn Smythe trophy winner and Stanley Cup champion. Giguere and GM Brian Burke hope some of that magic can be rediscovered now that Giguere is re-united in Toronto with Allaire, that Giguere can be his old self and not just an aging goalie."
Giguere to Toronto for Toskala, Blake
"The Ducks have traded Jean-Sebastien Giguere, the franchise's all-time winningest goalie, to the Toronto Maple Leafs and it's expected they will receive goalie Vesa Toskala and winger Jason Blake in return, the Orange County Register has learned. Giguere received a telephone call and learned of the potential move when he reached the Tampa Bay Lightning's suburban practice facility. The 32-year-old was in full gear but did not take the ice as players and coaches stepped off to hug him before he took the team bus back to the hotel. Sources close to the team said Giguere was to waive his no-trade clause after heading back to pack his belongings and that he was willing to do so as he'll be"
Jason Blake leads the way for Maple Leafs
"There is a grinder-worker-plugger kind of player in Jason Blake, and it's coming out now when the Leafs need it most. Blake had arguably his best game of the season in Sunday night's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh, a tour de force that saw him score an important goal, but also dog the Penguins with some tenacious puck control in the corners. Much of the time over the last two seasons, Blake has shown only flashes of that kind of play. He was still characterized as the one-time 40-goal scorer with the New York Islanders who was expected to reproduce those numbers in Toronto."
Leafs' Blake ends goal drought
"Jason Blake looked like a man who had the weight of Leafs Nation lifted off his shoulders. Two goals will do that to a guy who hadn't scored in his previous 12 games and doubled his season total from two to four in just one game. "It's been tough," the Leafs' leading scorer from last season admitted after what he hopes will be a breakout night. "I think the biggest thing is just to keep it simple and stay positive.""
Lack of scoring frustrates Blake
"The way things have been going for Jason Blake this season, he might have trouble putting a puck in the Atlantic Ocean. With just two goals in 24 games and none in the past 10, the Leafs forward admitted that frustration is starting to seep in. "I feel that my game hasn't changed," Blake said before the Leafs beat the Florida Panthers 6-4. "I'm doing every thing that I've done before, they just aren't going in. "I'm as frustrated as everybody else. It's not very much fun." When you're going bad, you're going bad though. In the second period last night, Blake appeared to be headed for a clear breakaway before losing his stick. Blake led the team both in goals (25) and points (63) last"
Blake hopes for best as Kessel's linemate
"Jason Blake can't remember ever having played with a linemate who can skate as fast as Phil Kessel. Now the Leafs winger is hoping to get his own game up to speed. The team's leading scorer from 2008-09 got a boost last night with just his second goal of the season. It was a big one at that, coming late in the third period of the team's 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Even better that it was the game-winner for Blake, who led the team in that category last season with five goals. As Kessel works his way back into game shape, might he be the spark Blake needs? "I think it has him celebrating," Blake said with a laugh when asked of the benefits of being on a line with the renowned"
