Jack Johnson News & Rumors

Carter trade nets Blue Jackets young defenseman
"The Blue Jackets were delighted to unload the lengthy contract of center Jeff Carter yesterday, and general manager Scott Howson — under pressure to reshape the roster after a horrendous season — was doubly thrilled with the return. Carter was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for defenseman Jack Johnson and a conditional first-round draft pick, shipping out a player who never seemed happy in Columbus for one who said he can't wait to get to town. "I'm excited by this," Johnson said. "I'm excited to go to a team that wants me, and to play in a great sports city. "I want to be part of the solution there. I know they've had some bad breaks and some tough seasons, but it's going to be great"
Report: Kings land Jeff Carter for Jack Johnson in deal with Jackets
"The goal-starved Los Angeles Kings reportedly acquired three-time 30-goal scorer Jeff Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Jack Johnson and a conditional first-round selection in either the 2012 or 2013 NHL Draft. Multiple media reports said the deal has been completed, contingent on both players passing physicals."
Kings ink defenceman Johnson to 7-year extension
"The Los Angeles Kings have signed Jack Johnson to a seven-year contract extension that ties the young defenceman to the club through the 2017-18 season, the team announed Sunday. Terms weren't immediately disclosed, but multiple reports said the deal is worth $30.5 million US. Johnson, 23, leads all Kings defensemen, and ranks sixth among all NHL blue-liners, with 31 points in 41 games this season."
Jack Johnson signs 7-year extension
"Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jack Johnson signed a seven-year, $30.5 million contract extension Saturday morning, then went out and matched his season high with three assists in a 6-4 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Staples Center. Johnson's deal, which was announced shortly after the game, matches the second longest in franchise history. Anze Kopitar signed a seven-year extension prior to the 2008-09 season, 20 years after Wayne Gretzky signed an eight-year deal. Johnson said he has been working on an extension since October. Although he has gone through stretches of poor play this season, Johnson said the contract talks were never a factor."
Kings' Peter Harrold and Jack Johnson play well together
"Terry Murray's decision to take Randy Jones out of the lineup and pair Peter Harrold with Jack Johnson worked out well for the Kings in Game 2, and the Kings' coach stuck with the new configuration for Game 3. That was fine with Johnson. "I enjoy playing with Peter a lot. He's a quick player. Skating is one of his strengths," Johnson said. "I always enjoy having a partner that skates well, and I think he handles the puck well. "He's very reliable. I always know where he's going to be and I trust him. In any partnership, trust is the biggest thing. I think we have that." Harrold, who played 15 minutes, returned the compliment. "He moves the puck well. Sometimes he can just do it on his own"
Johnson calls participation in Olympics opening ceremony 'coolest thing I've ever done'
"Kings defenseman Jack Johnson returned to Los Angeles about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, his whirlwind trip to Vancouver for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics leaving him both exhausted and inspired. "It was a great experience. Probably the coolest thing I've ever done," said Johnson, the first American NHL player to take part in the opening ceremony in Winter Olympics history. "It was worth every minute of it to get there. It was everything I thought it would be. And more." But making it there required some sacrifice -- and a good deal of planning. Less than seven hours after the Kings' shootout loss to Edmonton on Thursday, Johnson was heading to the airport for a two-hour charter"
Jack Johnson wasn't going to miss this
"To march with Team USA on Friday in the opening ceremony, Kings defenseman Jack Johnson awoke at 5 a.m. on a day between games, jumped on a charter flight from LAX to Bellingham, Wash., and hired a car and driver for the 50-mile trip to Vancouver. Johnson wouldn't say what he paid to charter the six-seat plane for himself, his parents and his little brother. To him, the experience is priceless. "I had to take extreme measures to get here, but it was worth every bit of it," said Johnson, the lone NHL player in the procession. "To have the opportunity to walk alongside the Olympians from my country and walk in the opening ceremonies is something I will never forget, and there was no way I"
Jack Johnson angry at Kings' general manager
"Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi said Friday his harsh evaluation of Jack Johnson's old flaws in an interview on the blog frozenroyalty.net was intended to lend perspective to the defenseman's progress, not to disparage Johnson or the University of Michigan. In the interview, conducted by Gann Matsuda and published as part of a series, Lombardi said Johnson "never had any coaching" at Michigan and was "awful as a hockey player" before he joined the Kings and refined his game enough to be chosen for the U.S. Olympic team at the Vancouver Games. An angry Johnson told The Times on Thursday that Wolverines Coach Red Berenson is "one of the finest coaches and men that I've met. For my"
Kings re-sign defenseman Jack Johnson
"The Kings re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Jack Johnson to a two-year contract Friday with an annual cap hit of $1.425 million, a deal that gives Johnson time to "prove what level player he can get to," according to Assistant General Manager Ron Hextall. Johnson, 22, played only 41 games last season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He has offensive skills but has had trouble in his own zone, and his return had rocky moments. However, Hextall said the club's management strongly believes in Johnson's potential. "To me, he's a big part of our young core," said Hextall, speaking for vacationing GM Dean Lombardi. "You look at Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson and you look at two pillars"
