Ian Kinsler News & Rumors

Ian Kinsler has procedure on right ankle
"Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler said he had a Platelet Rich Plasma injection a week after the season to seperate a ligament from the bone in his right ankle. Kinsler said the ankle has been bothering him for two seasons, ever since he rolled it during workouts in Surprise, Ariz, in March 2010. "I feel 100 percent and it's the first time I can say that in a long time," Kinsler said after talking with fans and signing autographs at Rangers FanFest on Saturday at the Arlington Convention Center. "It didn't bug me to the point where it affected how I felt running or moving laterally, I just didn't feel as powerful. Being able to feel that again is pretty cool. It's a good feeling." Kinsler"
Rangers will do whatever it takes to keep Ian Kinsler
"Kevin Sherrington: I'm almost positive they're going to do whatever it takes to keep [Ian Kinsler]. He brings you two things you don't normally get: power and speed. And he's also a really good defensive player. Whatever you don't like about him -- whether it's the ADD, huge lapses in the field or uppercut swing, he does produce some great numbers."
Ian Kinsler: Meeting Yu Darvish was pretty cool
"What was it like to tour Yu Darvish around town? "Not much of a tour guide. We were in our workout and go to shake his hand, tell him hello, tell him we're excited. He just went about checking out the place, the field, and I guess the surrounding area. It was pretty cool."
Ian Kinsler: ' I want to be a Ranger'
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler, one of the core players whom Daniels wants to keep, acknowledged very preliminary discussions with the Rangers on a contract extension. Kinsler is receptive to the idea. "I want to be here, and I think they know I want to be here," said Kinsler, who participated in the club's holiday visit to Children's Medical Center of Dallas. "The thing I want them to know and the fans to know is I want to be a Ranger. I'm going to try to do whatever I can to stay a Ranger.""
Rangers' Ian Kinsler on C.J. Wilson: 'Hopefully, I'm in his head already'
"Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler appeared on The Ben and Skin Show on KESN-FM 103.3 Tuesday and discussed the departure of Texas ace C.J. Wilson. Wilson, who was signed by the Angels in free agency, mentioned a week ago that Kinsler might be the toughest batter he would face in the Rangers' lineup because he hadn't faced him before and he is at the top of the order. "Hopefully I'm in his head already," Kinsler said. "I think we've had enough conversations where maybe I confused him enough." Kinsler is happy that Wilson was rewarded for his play in free agency, but is confident the Rangers will be fine without him."
Rangers, Kinsler talking new deal
"General manager Jon Daniels has said throughout the off-season that retaining the core players from two World Series runs is the top priority for the Texas Rangers, though for now the process is in the preliminary stages. Count second baseman Ian Kinsler as one of the players whom the Rangers have contacted about a long-term extension. Kinsler, who has one year remaining on his contract plus a $10 million club option for 2013, said his agent, Jay Franklin, has talked to Rangers brass about a new deal. "I want to stay here," Kinsler said. "I was drafted by the Rangers, and I want to be a Ranger. You never know how long it's going to take. I think the sooner the better for them, and the"
C.J. Wilson: Facing Ian Kinsler will be tough; Josh Hamilton issues warning
"Former Rangers pitcher C.J. Wilson has played his entire pro career in Texas' organization. So now that he's in the Angels' rotation after signing with Los Angeles on Thursday, he must consider taking on his old teammates. On the Ben and Skin Show on KESN-FM 103.3 on Friday, Wilson was asked who in Texas' lineup may be the toughest for him to face. "I think probably Kinsler and Mike Young, because I've never faced them before." Wilson said. "I've pitched against Adrian. I've pitched against Josh. I've pitched against Napoli, so at least I have some sort of history there. Going up against Kinsler I don't really know, and he starts off the game. So, I have to get off to a good start and"
What did Ian Kinsler do that's even more impressive than 30-30?
"Ian Kinsler joined the 30 homer/30 steals club for the second time in his career Tuesday, but it may not have been the night's biggest accomplishment for Kinsler. That would be the two runs he scored to cross 120 for the season. Kinsler went into the final game of the season with 121 runs scored, the fifth-highest total in Rangers history. Kinsler scored 116 runs while hitting leadoff. It's the most runs scored by a leadoff man in Rangers history, surpassing the 102 Kinsler scored in 2008. "That's his job, crossing the base," manager Ron Washington said. "If you put his runs scored and RBIs [77] together, I think he's produced close to 200 runs. That's a lot of production from that spot."
Ian Kinsler one steal shy of second 30-30 season
"The Rangers swept the three-game series and went 15-4 against Seattle overall, but the Mariners scored one small victory. They kept second baseman Ian Kinsler from reaching the 30-homer, 30-stolen bases level for the second time in his career. Kinsler put the Rangers ahead, 2-1, with a home run in the third and had two stolen bases in the fifth, giving him 29 for the season. When Kinsler reached on a single, the Mariners did everything possible to keep him from stealing another base. Reliever Steve Delabar twice threw to first base. The Mariners also put on the fake-to-third, look-to-first play with a 0-2 count on Esteban German and saw Kinsler start to run before getting back to the bag."
Ian Kinsler: 'I was on his (Ervin Santana's) slider, and I think he knew I was on it'
"With two outs and the game on the line, Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler knew one thing Tuesday. He knew he'd get the best slider Ervin Santana had to offer. Or at least the best he had to offer having already logged more than 125 pitches. And when he finally got one, he did just what he needed to do. He lifted a ball over the infield for a two-out, two-strike, two-run single that was the biggest blow in a huge 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels . The Rangers have pushed their lead in the AL West to a season-high seven games. "I was thinking slider the whole at-bat," Kinsler said. "But I was on it and I think he knew I was on it and he didn't want to throw it until he had me set up. When he"
Kinsler among AL's best at second base
"The most stunning thing about the slow ground ball that somehow snuck past Ian Kinsler on Sunday is that Kinsler made an error at all. He hadn't committed one in 43 games, since kicking a Michael Bourn grounder in the fifth inning of a 5-4 win over Houston on June 22. The next hitter bounced into a double play that Kinsler turned to end the inning. A long errorless streak doesn't necessarily make a player a good defender, though it doesn't hurt. But Kinsler passes the eye test and has stats to back those who believe he has developed into a top defensive second baseman. Kinsler was back at second base Monday night as the Texas Rangers opened a four-game series at Angel Stadium against the"
Ian Kinsler is 'best in all of baseball' at turning double plays
"Though Ian Kinsler's 42-game errorless streak came to a halt Sunday when a ground ball went between his legs, it didn't stop manager Ron Washington from praising his second baseman's fielding this year. "He's been outstanding," Washington said. "I think Robinson Cano , Dustin Pedroia and Ian are all pretty close, but nobody turns the double play as well as Ian does. He may be the best in all of baseball at that." Pedroia won the AL Gold Glove at second in 2008 on the way to the AL MVP. Cano won it last year for the first time. Kinsler and Cano each have eight errors while Pedroia has four. In the more advanced defensive metric of Ultimate Zone Rating, which tries to calculate a fielder's"
Rangers' Ian Kinsler grinding on offense, shining on defense
"Ian Kinsler kept his same approach and knew something good would eventually happen. Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington kept his faith in Kinsler, too.

And Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park, Kinsler finally showed signs of getting past his weeklong slump.

After flying out in his first two at-bats and falling to 1 for 32, Kinsler had an RBI single in the fourth inning. He flew out his next at-bat and drew a walk in his final trip to the plate.

"It's nice to contribute today, and drive in a run," Kinsler said. "Other than that, I'm just going to keep working."

Washington said he thought Kinsler's struggles were related to chasing high pitches rather than waiting for pitches in his"

Rangers have no plans to remove slumping Ian Kinsler from leadoff spot
"Though second baseman Ian Kinsler began Thursday in a 1-for-30 slump that stretched two more at-bats into the game before he got a hit, Washington said he has no plans to take Kinsler out of the leadoff spot. After fly outs in his first two at-bats, Kinsler singled up the middle in the fourth to drive home the Rangers' fourth run of the game. "He wants to get it done so badly," Washington said. "You just have to weather the storm. I think people get tired of seeing the pop-ups. They get frustrated, but nobody is more frustrated than Ian." Kinsler entered the game averaging 0.73 ground balls for every fly ball hit this season. It ranked as the third-worst in the AL behind Chicago teammates"
Deep thoughts: Lefties hitting Harrison; Kinsler's funk continues; Napoli on a tear
"Scatter-shooting while waiting for the Rangers' new and improved bullpen to show up. • LHP Matt Harrison may have learned an important lesson Wednesday: No matter how good you are at pitching out of jams - and with his penchant for double plays, he's very good - if you create enough stressful innings for yourself, it's going to catch up to you at some point. We give you the sixth. Harrison had allowed the leadoff hitter to reach base in each of the first five innings, meaning he did nothing but pitch from the stretch on Wednesday. Yet, thanks to three double play balls, he went to the sixth with a 3-3 tie. He retired the first two batters of the inning and it looked like he was going to"
Ian Kinsler takes pitch to the head, sees 12-game hitting streak end
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler's 12-game hitting streak ended Sunday, but at least Kinsler was able to stay in the lineup, though for a minute that was a little uncertain, too. Kinsler, who was 0-for-4, was hit by a Blake Beavan pitch in the right helmet ear flap in the seventh inning and crumpled to the ground. Kinsler had tried turning away from the fastball, but it caught him squarely in the helmet. Though he laid on the ground for a moment, he experienced no symptoms of a concussion and was able to remain in the game."
Wilson, Kinsler lead Rangers to 10th straight win, 5-1
"The scoreless-innings streak by the Texas Rangers' pitching staff has come to an end, but the most important streak is alive and well. The Rangers beat the American League's reigning Cy Young winner to extend their hottest stretch of the season, and they had a good time in the process. Ian Kinsler hit two solo homers off Felix Hernandez, and C.J. Wilson allowed only one run in seven innings as the Rangers topped Seattle 5-1 on Saturday for their 10th consecutive victory. Afterward, the clubhouse seemed to have a little more pep than normal after beating a pitcher many Rangers consider to be the best in the game. "Anytime you're going up against Felix and you beat him, you're going to have"
Kinsler on current slump: 'Right now, I stink'
"Ian Kinsler has added another element to his ongoing slump: batting with runners in scoring position. Kinsler enters the Rangers' series opener at Houston Tuesday night with only three hits in his last 21 at-bats with a runner in scoring position. For the season, he is hitting only .185 with runners in scoring position. That is the ninth-lowest average among AL qualifiers. "I'm hitting .235," said Kinsler, citing his overall average. "You can look at anything. Right now, I stink." Form says playing on the road will not bring Kinsler out of his funk. He is hitting a league-low .181 for road games."
Ian Kinsler marks return from paternity leave with hit
"Ian Kinsler has a new baby and a new hitting coach. The Rangers are hoping those two events will lead to a better performance on the road for their leadoff hitter and second baseman, who returned to the lineup Saturday for the first time since Tuesday after taking paternity leave. He was 1-for-4 in the Rangers' 8-1 loss to Minnesota. The hit, in his final at-bat, raised his road average to .127 and broke an 0-for-21 stretch on the road. He is a .333 hitter at home. While Kinsler is happy to be working with newly hired Scott Coolbaugh, he said the responsibility for changing the results lies with him, not the coach. "We definitely have a relationship," Kinsler said. "But there's nothing a"
Rangers place Kinsler on paternity leave list, recall Chris Davis
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler began what the clubs expects to be a two-day paternity leave after the birth of his second child and first son: Jack Jamisson Kinsler. The Rangers replaced Kinsler by adding infielder Chris Davis from Triple-A Round Rock. For Davis and the Rangers, it was fortunate timing. The move got Davis into the lineup against a favorite pitcher: left-hander Phil Coke. Davis had two hits and scored a run in three at-bats against Coke and is 4-for-8 with two homers lifetime against him."
Kinsler hot at home, cold on road
"The Ian Kinsler who bats at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington has been undeniably different than the one who hits on the road. At home, Kinsler plays like the second baseman who has rewritten the franchise's record book for the position in less than six seasons. He entered Tuesday with the team's highest home batting average at .328 and led the Rangers at home in runs (26), hits (38), walks (20) and is second with nine doubles. On the road, he sports the team's lowest batting average at .123 and has more strikeouts (16) than hits (13 in 106 at-bats). "That is really the toughest question you can answer because there is nothing you can say," Kinsler said. "There is no difference. I mean I am"
Rangers' Ian Kinsler lets 'temper get the best of me,' gets 3rd ejection in 2 years
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler forced the Rangers to play one man short for the final four innings of Sunday's win against Kansas City. Kinsler was ejected in the fifth inning for his reaction to a checked-swing call that went against him for a strikeout. Kinsler barked at plate umpire Mike Estabrook and tossed his helmet and bat. "I let my temper get the best of me," said Kinsler, who homered in the third. "I never want to get thrown out of a game, because it hurts my team.""
Ron Washington re-installs Ian Kinsler as leadoff hitter
"Hoping the return of Nelson Cruz and Josh Hamilton can get the offense back on the track it was on to start the season, Washington re-installed Ian Kinsler as the leadoff hitter. Kinsler had been moved to the No. 3 spot about two weeks ago after struggling as the leadoff man. The move did not produce markedly different results. The Rangers were going to put Hamilton back in the No. 3 spot when he returned, anyway."
Rangers could demote Ian Kinsler down to depths of lineup
"As his struggle at the plate only continues to mount, the Rangers may soon be facing a difficult lineup decision with 2B Ian Kinsler. Kinsler has already been dropped from first in the lineup to third with the hope that his style would be more productive there with Josh Hamilton out. That has not happened. Kinsler entered Saturday's game hitting .243 in the No. 3 spot. He snapped an 0-for-18 skid with a single in the sixth in the Rangers' loss. Hamilton is expected to return from the DL Monday. Also returning is likely No. 6 hitter Nelson Cruz. It may mean the Rangers will either have to give Kinsler another shot at the top of the lineup or move him to the bottom third. Kinsler has hit"
Kinsler takes rare off day, hopes to break out of slump
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler arrived at the visitor's clubhouse Monday morning and discovered that he was not in the Rangers' lineup for only the second time this season. The first time was April 11, the day Josh Hamilton was injured and Kinsler was forced into the game. He was able to sit all day in the finale against Oakland. Kinsler said he feels fine physically and at the plate, even though he is hitting only .231. But he leads the Rangers in walks (16) and is third in runs scored, and said that the change to the leadoff spot has not altered his approach nor is a cause for his slow start."
Ian Kinsler: 'Anytime you play the Yankees I think you look forward to it'
"It doesn't sound like playing in New York City will pose any added challenges for the Rangers during their weekend series against the Yankees. Sure, things are slightly different this time around. The last time the Rangers made a trip to the Bronx, it was during the American League Championship Series. Since the Rangers were victorious in that best-of-seven matchup, which ended the Bronx Bombers' chances at back-to-back World Series titles, will the Yankees faithful have some extra motivation for rooting against the Rangers the next three days? "I don't think those fans really care," second baseman Ian Kinsler recently told Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "It's going to be a"
Kinsler, Cruz make home run history
"Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz are now linked together in major-league history, but Kinsler knows after Sunday he's not in Cruz's class. Not after Cruz hit his mammoth homer in the seventh inning off Boston's Clay Buchholz. That homer to right center allowed Kinsler and Cruz to become the first teammates in history to each homer in the first three games of the season. The blast also traveled 424 feet, and Cruz is just the second right-handed hitter in Rangers Ballpark history to reach the upper deck in right field. "I've never seen anything like that, never," Kinsler said. "That's pretty impressive, and it was a line driver. He's a strong dude. He's a really strong dude.""
Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz set major league record
"Ian Kinsler homered in his second plate appearance on Sunday to become only the second Ranger to ever homer in the first three games of the season. When Nelson Cruz matched it in the seventh inning, the duo became the first pair of teammates to both homer in ta team's first three games. Kinsler, who had homered to start the first in his first two games to become the first player to ever do that to start a season, walked in his first plate appearance Sunday. In the third, an inning after David Murphy had given the Rangers the lead with his first homer, Kinsler made it 2-0."
Kinsler flexing muscle in leadoff spot
"A ball soars a little farther in the dry desert air of Arizona than one normally does in Arlington, Seattle, Oakland or just about any other American League outpost. That hardly qualifies as breaking news for Ian Kinsler, who grew up in Tucson and played two years of college ball in Arizona. He calls towering fly balls here that just sneak over the wall "Arizona homers." Kinsler says that maybe one of his four homers this spring has been of the Arizona variety. The other three, though, have been no-doubters that were driven out of the ballpark. He has homered in four consecutive games after launching a leadoff shot Saturday at the brand-new Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, and now leads"
Ian Kinsler hoping to be injury-free for Rangers
"Ian Kinsler knows his history, which has led many media types to assume that he will be injured at some point this season. He didn't even get out of spring training last year before suffering an ankle injury that would cost him all but one game in April. But the two-time All-Star considers that injury — suffered during a fall on wet grass — and others in his career to be freak occurrences. Kinsler will do his part to stay on the field, but he won't change the aggressive way in which he plays. "Hopefully this year I'm a little more lucky," said Kinsler, who also suffered a groin injury in late July. "I'm going to take care of myself this spring to make sure, come April 1, I'm on the"
Putting Kinsler's Lee plea in con'text'
"Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler tried to recruit pitcher Cliff Lee on Tuesday, and he wasn't the only one from the organization to do so. Kinsler told ESPN Radio in Dallas he exchanged texts with Lee, and the free-agent lefty, expected to sign with either the Yankees or Rangers, said Texas reps were back at his house in Arkansas trying to persuade him to return to the team. "Basically, I said, 'What's going on in Arkansas?' " Kinsler told the radio station. "He said, 'The Rangers are down here again. I was like, 'Well, just sign whatever they give you.' He said, 'Let's see what happens. We have to wait it out.' " The Yankees have emerged as favorites because most believe the Rangers are"
Ian Kinsler: Rangers, Cliff Lee met
"While sources say that the New York Yankees haven't made an offer to Cliff Lee yet, Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler said Wednesday that the free-agent pitcher told him via text message that he had met with Rangers officials in his home state of Arkansas on Tuesday. "Basically, I said, 'What's going on in Arkansas?' [Lee] said, 'the Rangers are down here again,'" Kinsler told the "Ben & Skin Show" on ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas. "I was like, 'Well, just sign whatever they give you.' He said, 'Let's see what happens. We have to wait it out.' "I said, 'Remember, I like being your teammate.' And he said, 'I do, too, but we have to wait it out.' I said, 'Just sign it.' And then he sent me a"
Rangers reach first World Series, end Yankees reign
"High above Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, on a night when rain threatened to spoil the biggest night in Texas Rangers history, a breeze from the south blew steadily. The flags atop the home-run porch in right field were waving proudly late Friday, including the rookie of the bunch. It reads: 2010 American League Champions. The Rangers will play in the World Series for the first time in franchise history after closing out the AL Championship Series in Game 6 on Friday night with a 6-1 victory over the mighty New York Yankees. Colby Lewis allowed only a run on three hits in eight innings, and Vladimir Guerrero and Nelson Cruz came up big with two outs in a four-run fifth to help the Rangers"
Kinsler to Tampa Bay Rays' fans: Stop worrying about umpires
"The Texas Rangers felt they were able to keep Tampa Bay Rays fans from being factor in their victories in the first two games at Tropicana Field with their play, outscoring Tampa Bay 11-1. But second baseman Ian Kinsler says the Rays fans were partly responsible for taking themselves out of the game by worrying too much about controversial calls by umpires. "It's tough to win when you're (complaining) about a call from the previous day," Kinsler said Friday at Rangers Ballpark, where the series resumes Saturday. "It seems like they were still talking about the Carlos Pena call, which is basically a non-issue because it hit the bat. "And it's tough to be a good crowd when you're worried"
Source: MLB to drop suspension of Rangers Ian Kinsler
"According to a baseball source, Major League Baseball officials have communicated to the Players Association that the league intends to drop Ian Kinsler's one-game suspension. Kinsler appealed the suspension, which was handed down on Tuesday, through the MLBPA. ESPN, citing anonymous sources, also reported the lifting of the suspension."
Kinsler draws one-game suspension
"Ian Kinsler's quest to join his teammates following Nelson Cruz's dramatic walk-off home run on Friday is going to come at a cost. Kinsler, who was ejected earlier in the game for arguing balls and strikes, was hit with a one-game suspension and fined an undisclosed amount for coming on the field to celebrate with his teammates following the game. Kinsler appealed the suspension, and was in the starting lineup Tuesday night. "I think it's a little unreasonable," Kinsler said. "It's not too much common sense. They have the rule in place. They have rules for a reason I guess. I don't know what the reason is, but they obviously put them in place." Kinsler was suspended for violating Official"
Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler says his ADD isn't a factor on the field
"In middle school, he'd simply zone out on the couch, seemingly ignoring his father's demands to take out the garbage. In junior college, his athletic director thought he was on speed. Once, in the minor leagues, he was approached about entering a drug treatment evaluation program. Such has been life for Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, who is one of the approximately 9 million American adults who deal with attention deficit disorder (ADD) or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). And he's not the only Ranger dealing with some form of the disorder. It's one of the reasons this is Attention Deficit Disorder Awareness Week. They are often labeled willful or rambunctious,"
Kinsler bats leadoff for first time since last season
"Ian Kinsler was back in a familiar spot Monday. The second baseman batted leadoff for the Rangers, where he spent part of 2007 and most of 2008 and 2009. But it was the first time he has batted first since Oct. 3, 2009."I still like hitting in the first inning because I think that's where I'm at my best," said Kinsler, who went 1 for 5. "My goal is to touch home plate as many times as I can in the game. Obviously that takes the guys behind me, but you can't score unless you get on base. That's my main goal."How long Kinsler will lead off remains to be seen. Manager Ron Washington said Cristian Guzman would likely bat leadoff when he's playing while Elvis Andrus rests his tight right"
Ian Kinsler returns for Rangers and returns to familiar place in lineup
"Ian Kinsler was back in a familiar spot Monday. He led off. It's where he spent part of 2007 and most of 2008-09. But it was the first time he's led off since Oct. 3, 2009. "I still like hitting in the first inning because I think that's where I'm at my best," said Kinsler, who went 1-for-5. "My goal is to touch home plate as many times as I can in the game. Obviously that takes the guys behind me, but you can't score unless you get on base." How long Kinsler will lead off remains to be seen. Manager Ron Washington said Cristian Guzman probably would lead off when he's replacing Elvis Andrus, who has a tight right hamstring."
Kinsler expected to be in lineup Friday vs. Twins
"All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler probably will bat sixth Friday against the Twins in his first game since July 27. He was activated from the disabled list Wednesday, along with infielder Cristian Guzman, and was available to pinch hit against Kansas City. Kinsler went 2-for-10 with a triple and three RBIs in three games for Double-A Frisco while on medical rehabilitation assignment. He said his strained left groin passed every test. "I'm ready to get back out there," he said. "They wanted to make sure I got back on my feet where it wasn't a pressure situation. As far as at-bats and groundballs, there was never really anything to work on.""
Where will Nelson Cruz, Ian Kinsler hit upon return to Rangers?
"Nelson Cruz began his rehab assignment on Thursday, going 1-for-5 for Frisco. Ian Kinsler is expected to begin his on Saturday. Within a week, the Rangers hope to have their lineup back at full strength, which raises this question: What exactly will the lineup look like when they do return? Kinsler was hitting third at the time he landed on the DL with a strained groin on July 29 and Cruz was hitting sixth. It's very likely neither will return in his old spot. Kinsler's injury forced the Rangers to finally move Josh Hamilton from fifth to third and now Hamilton looks like the ideal No. 3 hitter with a majors-leading .354 batting average, 30 homers and 92 RBIs. "I think we'll leave Josh"
Kinsler not ready for rehab assignment; Cruz plays 9 innings in rehab start
"Though Ian Kinsler has gotten a clean bill of health, he's still not ready to go on a rehab assignment. He worked at full speed again Wednesday, but he still has things to prove before he can resume game action. "He's going to work for us and we'll make a decision probably by the weekend," manager Ron Washington said. "The only thing we can go by is how he shows up the next day. We're trying to work him hard to get him through the soreness period as quick as we can." Washington said the key for Kinsler is getting the lower half of his body stronger. The Rangers still want to see him run the bases, start and stop and get in more swings in the cages."
Replacing Kinsler is a job for Blanco
"Of all the plugs and patches that the Texas Rangers have had to deploy this season, none has generated more attention or stirred more anguish than the void at second base.Ian Kinsler's position. His position, were it not for the fact that of 125 Rangers games this season, Kinsler has been healthy enough to start at second base only 75 times.Which is how Andres Blanco turned the Rangers' 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins into a Tuesday night to remember. And which is why 13-year veteran Alex Cora found himself in the Rangers clubhouse late Tuesday night. And which is why, finally, the last Rangers chapter in the disappointing saga of Joaquin Arias appears to have come to an end.Add in"
Rangers' Kinsler runs, bats says he feels great
"Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, on the disabled list with a strained left groin since July 29, passed his first two tests Tuesday. Kinsler ran without any noticeable discomfort and took 100 swings in the batting cage, two signs that the All-Star is nearing a return. He could begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment this week after an MRI exam showed his strained left groin was improving. "I feel great," Kinsler said. "Ran sprints, took 100 swings in the cage. I feel great.""
Kinsler, Cruz, Guzman, Nippert may all begin rehab this week
"The Rangers' minor-league affiliates figure to be busy this week. Second baseman Ian Kinsler, outfielder Nelson Cruz , infielder Cristian Guzman and right-hander Dustin Nippert could begin rehab assignments in their bids to return from the disabled list. Kinsler, who has been out since July 29 with a left groin strain, is scheduled to have an MRI today. He said his groin felt great and he's hoping to begin his rehab assignment as soon as possible. "If I'm clear to play, I'm going to go right away," said Kinsler, who still hasn't taken batting practice. "I will take BP there. I'll take it one day at a time, and when I feel like I'm ready, I'm ready to go. But I want to make this as quick"
Rangers' Kinsler hopes to be cleared for rehab assignment next week
"Manager Ron Washington put Ian Kinsler through a series of drills at second base Friday afternoon as the Rangers continue to build up the All-Star for an exit from the DL. Kinsler said he will have an MRI exam on his strained left groin Tuesday or Wednesday and hopes to be cleared for a rehab assignment that day. He has yet to sprint or swing a bat, which he will do last because team doctors believe that was how he was injured last month. "This is the sort of my third spring training this year," Kinsler said. "If that MRI is clear, I expect to get sent out that day. I want to get this thing going.""
Grant: You could make a case that Rangers can't win without Kinsler
"Rangers beat writer Evan Grant answered your questions in a chat Friday. Here are some highlights. jake asks ... Were you surprised that Blanco's teammates didn't do more to support him after Ty Wiggington basically pushed him off the field last night? Shouldn't have Colby Lewis at least put one under Wiggington's chin? This lack of fire from the Rangers is baffling, especially considering the lack of success on the field. Evan Grant: If you ask me, and this is just from watching on TV, Andres Blanco was in the wrong to mouth off at Ty Wigginton last night. On TV, the replay looked quite clean. Why Blanco got upset, I'm not sure. Once Wigginton, however, decided to start doing the umpires'"
Rangers' Ian Kinsler's return from injury delayed
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler probably won't return until the end of the month after a second MRI exam showed lingering inflammation in his strained left groin. The injury has improved since it put Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list July 29, general manager Jon Daniels said. He said Kinsler would be playing were the Rangers in middle of a playoff series. But Kinsler felt pain while jogging. Dr. Keith Meister determined that cautious approach is best with 50 games remaining. The key for Kinsler is to have no pain when he swings a bat. He will begin running again, but he's at least a week away from hitting."
Report: Ian Kinsler headed to DL, Mitch Moreland coming up
"Second baseman Ian Kinsler will be placed on the 15-day disabled list today with an injury to his left leg that isn't considered serious but needs to be rested and treated for the stretch run and possible run into the postseason, a major-league source said. Mitch Moreland, who has been playing first base at Triple A Oklahoma City, will have his contract purchased and be in Arlington tonight for the series finale against second-place Oakland. He will need to be added to the 40-man roster, which the Rangers can accomplish by moving Mark Lowe to the 60-man disabled list. Lowe, the former UT-Arlington star, was acquired in the Cliff Lee deal despite being out with a back injury. Kinsler did"
