Hakeem Nicks News & Rumors

Giants' Nicks undergoes successful surgery on right foot
"Hakeem Nicks yesterday underwent successful surgery on his right foot, as a screw was inserted to hasten the healing process in the fifth metatarsal bone he fractured while running a route on Thursday during an OTA drill. The surgery was performed in Charlotte, N.C, by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson. The Giants have set a 12-week timetable for Nicks' return. Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted "One person familiar with the Nicks fractured foot said it was more like a '4 to 6 week' injury.'' Nicks' agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Post, "we will know more next week,'' regarding the earliest Nicks can be expected to return."
Giants' Nicks out at least three months with broken foot
"The Super Bowl champion Giants on Thursday lost a huge member of their championship run when receiver Hakeem Nicks fractured a bone in his right foot in a morning OTA session and, following surgery, is expected to be out at least three months. Nicks was hurt early in practice inside the team's field house while running a route in individual drills. He broke the fifth metatarsal and will have surgery in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday to have a screw inserted into the broken bone. The procedure will be performed by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson."
Nicks catches perfect 10 for Giants
"You have to hand it to Hakeem Nicks. Nicks was simply brilliant in the Giants' 21-17 Super Bowl XLVI triumph over the Patriots, starring in his first career Super Bowl and pacing every one on the field in catches (10) and yards (109). "This is what I came for," Nicks said. "This is what I visualized. I feel good for it to come true." The magnificent third-year wideout from North Carolina had a fantastic postseason, hauling in 28 catches for 444 yards and four touchdowns in against the Falcons, Packers, 49ers and Patriots — an average of seven catches, 111 yards and a score per playoff contest."
Nicks finds time for charity
"Hakeem Nicks flew to Albany for the day last Sunday. He visited the Center for Disability Services, helping it with a telethon and visiting the center's nursing home for children and young adults. Joined by Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain and actors T.J. Thyne and Lamorne Morris, Nicks met with a 15-year-old nursing home resident named Rajiv, whose family hails from India. Rajiv, a Giants fan, gave a gift to all four of his celebrity guests. It was an elephant figurine, designed to give "future success," according to Center spokesperson Anne Schneider-Costigan."
Hakeem Nicks will be "fine," definitely will play
"Lost in the focus on whether Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will play — and whether he'll be effective — in Super Bowl XLVI is the fact that Giants receiver Hakeem Nick is nursing a shoulder injury suffered against the 49ers in the NFC title game. Though Nicks returned, he didn't practice last week and, like Gronkowski, Nicks has been given the 50-50 "questionable" designation for Sunday."
Speedy trio all set to stretch its legs
"Hakeem Nicks has already studied the Patriots defensive backfield. So has Mario Manningham. The verdict: It can be beat. "There's some things we can take advantage of within the schemes of their defense," Nicks said. "It's all about doing it when the time presents itself." "Outside, out-breaking routes, some in-breaking routes,'' added Manningham. "There's gonna be plays out there for us to be made.'' Any and every play the Giants make will be on the fast, indoor artificial turf inside Lucas Oil Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLVI, which the Giants have no problem turning into a track meet. If speed kills, the Giants are lethal, and this time around, unlike this battle four years ago, it's"
Hakeem Nicks' shoulder OK
"Hakeem Nicks said his shoulder is sore, but the Giants' big-play receiver said he is not concerned about his ability to be at full strength 11 days from now when he gets to face the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. Nicks was one of seven players who sat out practice. When making a diving catch, Nicks said he re-aggravated an A-C joint problem that's bothered him at times this season. He also said he's still dealing with a tender ankle after rolling it last week leading up to the game against the 49ers."
Hakeem Nicks rolls ankle in practice, but says he's not worried about status for Sunday's NFC title game
"Two key components of the Giants' aerial attack were added to the injury list Friday, but both pass-catchers said it will take a lot more than their recurrent ailments to keep them out of Sunday's NFC Championship Game against San Francisco. "Nothing I can think of, off the top of my head," Hakeem Nicks said. "If I was missing a leg, that's probably what it would take to keep me off the field," said Jake Ballard. The Giants' postseason touchdown machine, Nicks, rolled an ankle in practice Friday, but said he's "not at all" worried about missing — or being limited in — the game against the 49ers with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Ballard's availability — or at least his"
Ballard, Nicks dinged but both expect to play
"Both Jake Ballard and Hakeem Nicks experienced injury scares yesterday. Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Ballard underwent "a little procedure" on his ailing knee Thursday night, and Nicks rolled his ankle slightly in practice yesterday. Ballard did not practice yesterday and is listed as questionable for tomorrow's NFC Championship against the 49ers in San Francisco, and Nicks was limited in practice and is probable. Neither player was concerned over the developments, and said they expect to be fine for the game. Ballard partially tore his posterior cruciate ligament in Week 15, missing the final two games of the regular season, but returning for the playoffs. According to someone with"
Hakeem Nicks has been NY Giants' go-to receiver
"Plaxico Burress was one of the driving forces behind the Giants' 2007 Super Bowl championship. He caught 11 passes for 151 yards in an NFC Championship Game win over the Packers, then caught the game-winning pass against the Patriots in the Super Bowl. So far, Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks is having a similar impact this postseason. The third-year receiver had seven receptions for 165 yards - 10 shy of the franchise playoff record set by Bob Schnelker in the 1959 NFL Championship - and two touchdowns in Green Bay on Sunday. The week before, Nicks had six catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the opening-round win over Atlanta. That's 280 yards and four touchdowns and ... "You ain't"
With incredible 10 1/2-inch mitts, Hakeem Nicks is catching fire for Giants
"You know what they say about guys with big hands? They make big catches — big playoff catches, historic catches. They catch passes off their helmets. They catch passes with one hand on the bottom of the ball as it's moving away from them. They catch passes with one hand, then go around the back and switch it to the other hand. If a good man is hard to find, what value does the NFL place on a receiver with big hands, deceptive speed and a driving desire to be the best football player on the field?"
NY Giants' Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz lead the way against Packers, 37-20
"Hakeem Nicks ended the first half by catching a Hail Mary touchdown pass, and Victor Cruz helped end the game with a critical fourth-quarter catch. And for the umpteenth time this season, the Giants' two receivers served notice that they are a tandem to be reckoned with. Nicks and Cruz combined for 239 receiving yards and two TDs in Sunday's 37-20 NFC divisional playoff dismantling of the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Add in Mario Manningham's 31 yards and one TD, and the Giants wideouts easily outplayed Green Bay's hyped trio of Greg Jennings, Donald Driver and Jordy Nelson. The Pack's three targets combined for 114 receiving yards."
Hakeem Nicks, Giants' receivers eager to prove they're in Green Bay's class
"Eli Manning quickly recognized that his No. 1 target, Hakeem Nicks, was in single coverage, and the Giants quarterback lofted the simple fade route from 4 yards out toward the back right corner the end zone. But as it floated through the air, it didn't look like it would be so simple: Nicks had Green Bay Packers All-Pro cornerback Charles Woodson draped all over him, arguably to the extent that a penalty flag could have been dropped. It wasn't enough. Despite having Woodson clinging to his left arm, Nicks extended his right and made the one-handed touchdown catch. It was so impressive even Woodson, a 14-year veteran, acknowledged the effort by fist-bumping Nicks, who caught seven passes"
Nicks expects to meet a motivated Woodson
"The only time during the regular season Hakeem Nicks scored two touchdowns in a game was against the Packers in Week 13. Nicks delivered a superb performance that day, grabbing seven catches for 88 yards and the two scores. One of those touchdowns came with Charles Woodson out of the game, as the Packers' All-Pro cornerback suffered a concussion early in the fourth quarter. But Nicks caught his other six balls with Woodson on the field. Which means Woodson will be plenty motivated Sunday when the Packers play host to the Giants to make sure Nicks doesn't fare quite as well."
Hakeem Nicks has no setbacks, appears to be ready for Cowboys
"If Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks can duplicate his previous effort against Dallas on Sunday - the one in which he exploded for a season-high 163 yards on eight receptions in the Dec. 11 Giants win - Big Blue could catch a playoff berth. Of course, the Nicks who appeared on the field in Big D earlier this month wasn't nursing a sore hamstring like the one Nicks is dealing with right now. The injury caused him to miss two practices this week, but Nicks was back on the field Friday, practicing his cuts, testing his speed, taking passes from Eli Manning in light drills. Nicks said afterward he wasn't limited in any way. Best of all, he said, "there wasn't no setback." Thursday, Nicks had"
Giants' Nicks has 'no doubt' he'll play against Cowboys
"Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said he's is playing in Sunday's winner-take-all game against the Cowboys, with first place in the NFC East on the line, the playoffs for the winner and elimination for the loser. "I have no doubt in my mind, I'm playing,'' Nicks said Thursday. "I know that. It's all or nothing.'' Nicks, dealing with a strained hamstring, did some running on the side inside the fieldhouse while the Giants practiced. Nicks even did a few backpedals, though he rested and tested his strained hamstring, not participating in any aspect of practice."
Nicked-up Hakeem a reason to worry
"Giants fans will need to hold their breath on this one. Eli Manning's go-to receiver not named Victor Cruz is Nicked Up. "If I'm out there, I'd like to say I'd be myself, but you never know," Hakeem Nicks said. "These things are tricky. I'm gonna go ahead and claim I'll be myself out there. I always got to think positive." If I'm out there are four words that ought to send shudders down the spine of every Giants fan. "I don't see myself missing this game," Nicks said. Tom Coughlin and Manning are similarly optimistic. But Nicks sat out yesterday's practice with the hamstring he strained against the Jets. Manning will be hard-pressed to win a shootout with Tony Romo on Sunday night if Nicks"
Darrelle Revis laughs off criticism from NY Giants' Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks
"The chant started from about 40 feet away from No. 24's locker, two words lampooning comments made by Giants wide receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks on Wednesday. "Revis sucks! Revis sucks!" cornerback Marquice Cole playfully shouted as Darrelle Revis gave his two cents about the latest bit of trash talk in the run-up to Saturday's showdown at MetLife Stadium. Nicks referred to Revis as a "decent" cornerback before calling him "great." Cruz took it a step further by claiming that "teams aren't really scared (of Revis) anymore" and "he's got to earn his money this year." "These guys can say whatever they want to say," Revis said on Thursday. "And you just laugh at it. You laugh, and"
With sun in eyes, Giants' Nicks left in fog
"During warmups yesterday, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks tested out how the sun was to deal with. And quarterback Eli Manning pointed out how bright it was. "Coach Coughlin was reminding us as well," Nicks said, " 'Make sure you look the ball all the way in.' " So Nicks had fair warning, but Nicks hardly had a sunny disposition after his brutal first-quarter drop in the 23-10 loss to the Redskins at MetLife Stadium."
Giants face Cowboys with Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Victor Cruz all healthy at receiver
"Victor Cruz looked around the offensive huddle yesterday and saw Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham standing alongside him. "So I said, 'We've got the big three back!' And everybody started laughing," the Giants' wide receiver said. "But it's always good to have the guys back at full strength and just be able to get us all clicking on the same page. "When all three of us are out there, there's just a different energy in the huddle." Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys will mark only the third time in six games the Giants have had their "big three" on the field at the same time. It began with a hamstring issue that knocked Nicks out of the victory over the New England Patriots. Then, a"
Some Giants Were at Club Where Man Was Fatally Shot
"A gunman opened fire at a crowded Manhattan nightclub early Tuesday morning, killing a 44-year-old man and wounding two people while several entertainers and professional athletes — including up to five Giants players — were nearby, the police said. The shooting occurred at 2:22 a.m. at the Juliet Supper Club at 539 West 21st Street, the police said. The victim, Arthur Artis of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead on arrival at Bellevue Hospital. "There is nothing to indicate that any of the well-known individuals in the club that night had anything to do with the shooing," said Paul J. Browne, the New York Police Department's chief spokesman."
Giants' Nicks to start vs. Niners; Manningham a game-time call
"The New York Giants expect wideout Hakeem Nicks will start Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, according to a league source. The source said Nicks feels good about being able to play after missing the Giants' win over the New England Patriots in Week 9 with a hamstring injury."
Nicks, Manningham game-time calls
"Hakeem Nicks is making the trip to San Francisco and barring any setbacks with his hamstring will play against the 49ers. Nicks, the Giants leading receiver, is listed as questionable and, suddenly, so is the other starting receiver, Mario Manningham. The Giants on Saturday added Manningham to the injury report with a problem with his knee. This is a new one, as Manningham made it through the entire week of practice and there was no mention of anything wrong with his knee. It is likely Manningham tweaked his knee late in the week. He made the trip with the team but his status will have to be watched closely, as it is unknown how effective Nicks will be after missing last week's victory in"
Giants' Nicks says hamstring 'passed every test;' Bradshaw out
"Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said his ailing hamstring fared well Friday in practice and nothing he's done to test the injury has been a problem. "So far we've passed every test," Nicks said. Nicks, the Giants' top receiver, missed last Sunday's game against the Patriots but figures to return this Sunday against the 49ers. "I went out there and practiced on it and it felt pretty good so we will see," Nicks said. "We will see what the decision is that they will make." Asked what other test would be a good gauge, Nicks replied, "I guess waking up in the morning, seeing how it felt after today. They'll let me know something in the morning." Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) is out this"
Nicks back to work at Giants practice; Bradshaw out again
"Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is following the schedule he set for himself this week, which he feels will result in him being able to play Sunday in San Francisco against the 49ers. Nicks on Thursday was on the field for practice, participating in individual drills, just as he said he would be a day earlier. He is coming back from a sore hamstring, an injury that kept him out of last week's victory in New England. He tested his leg by running on the side Tuesday and again Wednesday and reported no setbacks, saying he opened up to full speed and did not have any discomfort. Nicks said he is concentrating on not rushing back too soon, fearing he could hurt the hamstring further, but he"
Giants' Hakeem Nicks doing individual drills today
"Hakeem Nicks went through individual drills today, as the Giants' wide receiver had hoped he would when asked about his strained hamstring on Wednesday. Nicks indicated he didn't expect to take any team reps, so it's unclear if he'll participate in that portion of practice, which is closed to the media. Whether Nicks plays on Sunday against the 49ers will be determined by how his hamstring responds to the increased work today and possibly Friday."
Giants' Hakeem Nicks takes the first step back to returning
"Hakeem Nicks did some running and cutting at full speed today. Thursday, he'll do individual drills. If all goes well, he'll practice Friday. And if there are no setbacks, he'll play on Sunday. But so far, the Giants' wide receiver is only one step into that process, so he's being cautiously optimistic he can play on a strained hamstring that kept him out of Sunday's victory over the New England Patriots. "Going to stick to the plan of more and more each day," Nicks said. "No setbacks, and that's always a good sign.""
Nicks, Bradshaw won't play for Giants against Patriots
"There were no miracle health upgrades for the Giants, and yesterday they did the expected and downgraded their top receiver, Hakeem Nicks, and top running back, Ahmad Bradshaw, to out for today's game against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Also ruled out for the game is center David Baas, who missed the entire week of practice with a knee injury. Also as expected, receiver Ramses Barden was activated off the physically unable to perform list and he will make his 2011 debut against the Pats. Barden has been out for an entire year, ever since breaking his ankle in a game against the Cowboys last season."
Hakeem Nicks in limbo
"The Giants may not only be without their top back Sunday. Their top receiver also may be a spectator against the Patriots. Hakeem Nicks hasn't practiced the past two days with a hamstring injury and doesn't expect to today. He said he will try to run Saturday and see how it feels. "My mentality is I like to bounce back from injuries quick," Nicks said. "This is something you got to be smart about. We got a long season ahead of us. If I have to sit one week and come back the following week, I'd rather take that than being out for a while." Nicks aggravated his hamstring in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Dolphins. He said his range of motion is getting better and he doesn't"
Giants' Nicks sounds like he'll sit out vs. Patriots
"It sure doesn't look as if Hakeem Nicks is going to play on Sunday against the Patriots. The Giants receiver came out of last week's victory over the Dolphins with a slightly strained right hamstring. The good news for Nicks is that the strain is in the middle of the hamstring and not higher up, which is more problematic. The bad news for Nicks is that he didn't practice on Wednesday, did not practice on Thursday and doesn't plan on practicing on Friday. He hasn't been ruled out for the game but he isn't saying that he believes he will play in the game. If you know Nicks, he usually is accurate when he predicts his availability."
Giants' Hakeem Nicks, Ahmad Bradshaw to sit out practice today
"As expected Tom Coughlin says Hakeem Nicks is day-to-day. As for this day, the Giants' wide receiver won't practice because of a hamstring strain. "We'll see," Coughlin said. "He tells me he's better and says all the right things, but he's not going to work today." Nicks believes he has a shot to play on Sunday against the Patriots, but that was a significant strain in a hamstring that's been giving him problems since Week 2, so he has plenty of work left to do to get ready to play. The Giants will hope for Nicks to be ready but are currently working on contingency plans."
NY Giants receive good news on Hakeem Nicks' hamstring injury
"Hakeem Nicks had an MRI on his injured right hamstring on Monday and received "good" news, according to a source, and there is no serious damage. Tom Coughlin said the wide receiver's status would be "day-to-day" this week. However, "the plan is not to miss anything," the source added. Nicks hobbled off the field during the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Nicks caught six passes for 67 yards before he got hurt."
Giants' Hakeem Nicks 'all good' after MRI on hamstring, source says
"For Hakeem Nicks, it's been mind over matter where injuries are concerned. Expect that to be the case this week as he prepares to face the New England Patriots. The Giants' wide receiver received good news following an MRI on his hamstring this afternoon, according to someone informed of the results of the exams. The person, who requested anonymity because all injury information is supposed to come from Tom Coughlin, described Nicks as "all good" after aggravating a strain in the muscle late in Sunday's victory over the Miami Dolphins. At his afternoon press conference today, Coughlin didn't have all of the information on Nicks' hamstring but didn't anticipate any major issues. Coughlin"
Hakeem Nicks hurt in NY Giants win over Miami Dolphins
"For the first time all year, the Giants came into a game mostly healthy - and you just knew it wouldn't last. As if the sight of top receiver Hakeem Nicks hobbling off the field with a hamstring issue in the fourth quarter wasn't unsettling enough, the Giants will be sweating out several MRIs and other medical tests over the next few days. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw missed a few series after aggravating an old injury to his right foot. Center David Baas missed a couple of series with a right knee injury. And defensive end Osi Umenyiora went for X-rays, though he declined to say on what."
Giants' Hakeem Nicks has played through a lot of pain
"Hakeem Nicks has a recurring series of dreams — or to be more accurate, nightmares — in which he can't get to the field in time for kickoff. Sometimes, the stadium doors are locked. Other times, the shoelaces on his cleats keep breaking as he tries to knot them. No matter the issue, the theme is clear: The Giants wide receiver misses the game. And the mere thought scares the heck out of him. "The idea of not playing and letting down his teammates is his greatest fear," said Nicks' agent, Peter Schaffer, with whom he has shared stories of the dreams. "It's where his passion is. It's what drives him.""
Hakeem Nicks, not Larry Fitzgerald, plays like elite wide receiver in NY Giants' win over Cardinals
"When the Giants looked at the Cardinals' offense last week, nobody could have scared them more than Larry Fitzgerald. He is an impossible-to-stop receiver. Sometimes all a defense can do is minimize the damage. It's the same way opposing defenses must look at Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks. If they don't already, they will soon because the 23-year-old Nicks is well on his way to what could be a Pro Bowl season. He outplayed Fitzgerald on Sunday, catching 10 passes for 162 yards, including a reaching grab of the game-winning, 29-yard touchdown in the Giants' 31-27 win."
Eli Manning and Hakeem Nicks wake Giants in second half win over Cardinals
"Jerry Reese was standing in the Giants' locker room, soaking up the euphoria that was still hanging in the air from Big Blue's fourth-quarter comeback victory Sunday. It is the same place where the Giants authored one of the most improbable and exciting Super Bowl victories in history, a victory the Giant GM predicted. Before this season, even though the Giants didn't do anything to address their big free agent losses, Reese had said the 2011 Giants were a playoff-worthy group. That prediction looked farcical as injuries decimated the secondary and crippled the receiving corps and the Giants lost the season opener to Washington."
Victor Cruz nearly gives ball away, Manning's TD to Hakeem Nicks saves win
"When it was over, Victor Cruz wasn't entirely sure what happened, but he still exhaled more deeply than he ever had before. He was "a little scared" that he had just fumbled away a Giants comeback. He wasn't the only one. The entire Giants organization held its breath until the officials ruled that Cruz's apparent fourth-quarter fumble wasn't a fumble and also wasn't reviewable. Knowing they may have caught a break, the Giants pounced and one play later, Eli Manning hit Hakeem Nicks for a 29-yard touchdown that capped a wild, fourth-quarter comeback and a 31-27 win over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday."
Hakeem Nicks makes a bold prediction despite sitting out from practice
"Hakeem Nicks is one-for-one with his predictions this season. When an injured knee withheld him from practice for much of the week leading up to the Sept. 19 game against the St. Louis Rams, Nicks insisted he would play. Sure enough, he did. So when Nicks missed today's practice with swelling in the same knee, the Giants' top receiver cautioned observers from raising concern about his status for Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. "It just flared up a little bit," Nicks said. "Take it one day at a time. I'm playing, though. It's nothing that's going to make me miss (the game).""
Nicks, Tuck don't practice with Giants
"Seeing Giants defensive end Justin Tuck spend Thursday's practice on the stationary bike wasn't a shock. Seeing Hakeem Nicks pedaling along right next to him was, the wide receiver a surprise addition to the injury report. Tuck was riding the exercise bike for the second consecutive day, nursing his lingering neck problem as well as his recent groin injury. His availability for Sunday's game at Arizona may hinge on his ability to practice Friday, although he has said he will play."
Tuck, Nicks questionable, but expect to play
"Given what they've gone through during the summer and early this season, the Giants will take having key players on both sides of the ball at 50-50 odds to play in tomorrow night's home opener against the Rams at MetLife Stadium. Defensive end Justin Tuck and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks both participated in practice on a limited basis yesterday, and the Giants listed both as questionable for the game. Officially, anyone listed as questionable has a 50 percent chance of playing in that game. Some "questionable" designations feel different than others, though, and that's the case with Tuck and Nicks. Both are likely to play."
Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks says he will be on the field against Rams
"Hakeem Nicks is confident that the will play Monday night against the Rams and that his knee injury will not be an issue. The Giants' top wide receiver did not participate in the team portion of practice today but did work in individuals and looked fine. He even made a toe-tapping catch in the corner of the end zone and showed no ill effects. Nicks said that he is making progress and responding well to treatment. "I'll be on the field," Nicks said of Monday's game. Nicks said sitting out the team portion of practice today was just a precautionary measure."
Hakeem Nicks says swelling down, flexibility better in injured knee
"Hakeem Nicks believes it will be his decision as to whether he plays through a bone bruise in his knee on Monday against the St. Louis Rams. It's all a matter of pain tolerance, he says. So how does he handle pain? "I think I do pretty well," the Giants' wide receiver said today. Nicks was riding the bike on the side at practice today but said he decided not to do any jogging. He will participate in individual drills Friday and, if all goes well, will return to practice on Saturday. "It responded good from (Wednesday)," he said. "The swelling went down, so it's a matter of bearing the pain now. It's not too bad. … I don't really feel as much pain, I'm fully extending now.""
Hakeem Nicks will test knee Friday as swelling subsides, plans to play Monday
"The swelling in Hakeem Nicks' knee has subsided, and the joint finally has full range of motion. All that is left now is pain. But if Nicks can manage that Friday, he expects to play Monday. Friday, the receiver plans to test his knee, doing individual drills for the first time this week."
Tuck practices for Giants; Nicks works out on side
"Justin Tuck already has said he is playing Monday night, and he offered further evidence Thursday by participating in the Giants' padded practice. Tuck, who was forced to sit out the opener due to a neck issue, did not take part in the pads practice last week. Wideout Hakeem Nicks, however, did not practice Thursday because of a bone bruise in his knee. The Giants are being careful with Nicks because that injury can be tricky, so he was limited to stretching and cardio work on the side during the 30-minute media window."
Hakeem Nicks says he's all right, while Brandon Stokley arrives with help
"Hakeem Nicks didn't panic when he hyperextended his left knee and suffered a bone bruise as he lunged for the pylon at the end of a 68-yard reception against the Washington Redskins last Sunday. Then again, the soft-spoken Nicks doesn't ever seem to panic. "I'm the type that, when you start worrying, that's when stuff (goes) wrong," the Giants' wide receiver said today. "So I just kind of keep a cool head the whole time. Everything came back good, so it's a blessing." What Nicks meant is he suffered no ligament damage and, while he was out of practice today, he believes he'll be ready for the St. Louis Rams on Monday after experiencing little pain while jogging. "I feel way better than I"
Hakeem Nicks on injured knee: 'I don't see myself missing any time'
"Hakeem Nicks is a smooth, soft-spoken person. So when he hyperextended and slammed his knee at the end of a 68-yard catch against the Washington Redskins, he didn't panic. "I'm the type that, when you start worrying, that's when stuff (goes) wrong," the Giants' wide receiver said in the locker room today. "So I just kind of keep a cool head the whole time. Everything came back good, so it's a blessing.""
Nicks doesn't practice with Giants, plans on being ready to play vs. Rams Monday night
"When Hakeem Nicks looks at what happened to his team on Sunday and considers all the injuries it has suffered this summer, he can see how much he is needed right now. He knows this isn't the time for stars to be out. So he doesn't intend to be, despite the hyperextended and bruised knee the Giants receiver suffered in the season opener. Even after missing practice Wednesday, Nicks insisted, "I don't see myself missing Monday night." If Nicks does play, the Giants' battered organization and all its beleaguered fans can breathe a deep sigh of relief. The Giants brought in some help Wednesday night when they signed 35-year-old receiver Brandon Stokley, who adds depth to a very thin unit."
Giants' Nicks to have X-rays on knee; status unknown for Week 2
"Seemingly the only positive to come out of the Giants' 28-14 loss to the Redskins was that there were no new injuries for a team that has sustained too many of them this summer. Or so we thought. Coach Tom Coughlin said Monday afternoon that star receiver Hakeem Nicks is getting his knee checked out. "He does have some type of injury there,'' Coughlin said. The Giants season could hinge on what type of injury Nicks has in his knee. During the game he needed to come off the field because it appeared he had done something to his knee but he was able to return. Nicks was one of the few bright spots on offense, with seven receptions for 122 yards. His 68-yard catch set up the Giants first"
