Sizemore's second surgery goes well
"Grady Sizemore went 2-for-2 in the surgery stat line. Sizemore underwent successful surgery on Wednesday morning to reinforce an unstable abdominal wall on his lower left side. The condition, known as an athletic pubalgia, was corrected by Dr. Bill Meyers in Philadelphia. Head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff accompanied Sizemore on the trip to Philly and reported that all went well during the 20-minute procedure, which required a small incision in the region. So that's two successful surgeries in the span of a week for Sizemore, who had arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow on Sept. 9. Thus ends a season of pain for Sizemore, who is scheduled to begin rehabbing from both surgeries ..."
Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore has first of two surgeries
"It's one surgery down and one to go for Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore. Sizemore underwent surgery on his left elbow this morning at Cleveland Clinic. Sizemore has had inflammation (synovitis) in the elbow lining. Dr. Mark Schickendantz, Indians head team physician, did the arthroscopic surgery. On Sept. 16, Sizemore will undergo surgery to stabilize his lower abdominal wall on his left side. The injury is called an athletic pubalgia and Sizemore did it in spring training when he strained his left groin. Dr. Bill Meyers will perform the surgery."
Indians manager Eric Wedge defends delaying surgery for Grady Sizemore
"Many fans have been critical of the Indians for waiting until Friday to end Grady Sizemore's season because of injuries. Bloggers and e-mailers wanted it done long before then. When told of this, manager Eric Wedge said: "What did they want him to be ready for, Christmas? Did they want him to be ready on Thanksgiving? We shut him down at the right time. "The guy wanted to play. We weren't putting him in any danger. We wouldn't take any chances with Grady. He'll have plenty of time to get ready for next season." Sizemore is scheduled to have surgery on his left elbow and strained left groin in the next two weeks. His elbow operation will be performed this week by Dr. Mark Schickendantz, ..."
Sizemore's season over; two surgeries upcoming
"The Indians have shut down center fielder/leadoff hitter Grady Sizemore for the remainder of the season. Sizemore has played all season with a sore left elbow that will require surgery. Sizemore has also played all season with an abdominal injury on the lower left side. Indians head trainer Lonnie Soloff said that Sizemore will undergo arthroscopic surgery on the elbow next week. About a week later, Soloff said, Sizemore will undergo surgery to stabilize the abdominal region. He is expected to be ready for spring training. Rookie Michael Brantley will play center and bat leadoff tonight against the Twins at Progressive Field. The lining in Sizemore's elbow is inflamed, and he needs ..."
For now, Sizemore and Tribe willing to play through the pain: Indians Insider
"The one element missing from Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore's multifaceted game is a strong arm. But a Sizemore throw in Tuesday night's game against Minnesota could not be explained away so simply -- at least in the minds of Tribe fans in the blogosphere and elsewhere. Sizemore has been playing through pain in his left elbow, the result of synovitis, an inflammation of the joint lining. The problem dates to spring training. He is a virtual lock for arthroscopic surgery in the off-season. So when Sizemore one-hopped the cutoff man from medium depth Tuesday, the question was raised for the umpteenth time: Why don't the Indians just shut him down instead of waiting? The answer, ..."
Good workout for Sizemore pushes him closer to return to action
"It hasn't been decided if Grady Sizemore will immediately rejoin the Indians off the disabled list or go on a rehab assignment, but it appears he's close to playing in games somewhere. Sizemore stood in the batter's box and tracked pitches while Cliff Lee threw a bullpen session Sunday morning. He took batting practice, played catch and ran the bases. Sizemore has been on the disabled list with an inflamed left elbow since May 31. "It's a day-to-day thing," said Sizemore."
Cabrera headed to Columbus while Sizemore wants action in Pittsburgh
"The Indians have lost six straight games. Never fear. "Things are going to change soon," said shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera following the Indians' 6-2 loss Sunday to the Cubs. Maybe yes, maybe no, but Indians fans should have some new faces to watch in the near future. Center fielder Grady Sizemore says he should be activated Tuesday against Pittsburgh at PNC Park. Cabrera, meanwhile, said he'll report to Class AAA Columbus on Monday to begin a rehab assignment after straining the A/C joint in his left shoulder. Sizemore has been on the disabled list since May 31 with an inflamed left elbow. He said the Indians left it up to him on whether he should go on a rehab assignment or immediately ..."
Sizemore eager for return to lineup
"Grady Sizemore passed his test today, but he will not automatically be promoted to the next grade. It's a little different when you have a lingering injury that improves only incrementally. Which relates to Sizemore's activities today that included an MRI scan on his left elbow. ''The MRI looked pretty good,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''There's still a little something there, but it's a lot better.'' Sizemore has been on the disabled list since May 31 with inflammation of the lining that covers his left elbow. He was shut down completely and given anti-inflammation medication. For the first time since going on the DL, Sizemore was permitted to throw a baseball today, playing catch from 60 ..."
Sizemore says there's no pain in ailing elbow
"As of Monday afternoon, Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore's left elbow did not require surgery -- but that could change any day, depending on how it responds to the resumption of baseball activities. Sizemore said that the elbow felt good during a light workout at Progressive Field, the first time he had picked up a ball or swung a bat since being placed on the disabled list May 31 because of elbow inflammation. Sizemore had an MRI scan and a physician's exam earlier Monday. "I was cleared to go throw and take swings, so I guess it went well," Sizemore said of the exams. Sizemore had an MRI scan several weeks ago that showed no structural damage. "We were pretty confident that the ..."
Sizemore responding to treatment
"A week and a half has gone by since Grady Sizemore was shut down with inflammation of the lining of his left elbow, and the pain he felt has subsided. ''The elbow has reacted favorably as expected,'' head trainer Lonnie Soloff said Wednesday. Soloff said that Sizemore had experienced pain in three places; two no longer hurt. Sizemore is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan Monday to determine his progress. ''Based on his symptoms then, he can resume baseball activity,'' Soloff said. With the enforced inactivity and the use of anti-inflammatory medication, Soloff is hoping Sizemore can avoid arthroscopic surgery that would keep him off the field from four to six additional weeks. NO DECISION ..."
Sizemore could be facing surgery if elbow doesn't respond
"Grady Sizemore, the Indians' All-Star center fielder, could be facing arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow that would sideline him for four to six weeks if the inflammation doesn't respond to treatment in the next two weeks. Sizemore went on the disabled list Sunday with pain in his elbow. The Indians tried to nurse Sizemore through the injury by having him DH, but Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said, "The elbow was still provocative when he went to the plate." That does not mean Sizemore's elbow was going to appear in the next Victoria's Secret catalogue. It means he was feeling pain swinging the bat. When the Indians moved him to DH on May 19, Sizemore said he was feeling ..."
Elbow injury forces Sizemore to DL
"The Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Grady Sizemore on the 15-day disabled list Sunday morning, marking the first time in his career the outfielder had gone on the DL. They recalled versatile catcher/infielder/outfielder Chris Gimenez from Triple-A Columbus to fill the roster spot. Sizemore went on the DL with left elbow synovitis (inflammation of the elbow) and will be eligible to return June 15. He was hitting .223 with 11 doubles, nine homers and 31 RBIs in 49 games but had been plagued by elbow soreness all season. In his four full seasons prior to 2009, he'd never played fewer than 157 games in a year. This will mark the Major League debut for Gimenez, a 19th-round pick by the ..."
Sizemore's elbow still hurting
"Grady Sizemore still isn't hitting leadoff or playing center field. His left elbow hasn't stopped hurting either. And the Indians are going to have a decision to make in the next few days. "We talked about it today," said manager Eric Wedge before Saturday night's game. "He definitely feels better staying away from [throwing] the baseball." Sizemore has spent nine of the past 12 games at DH because of irritation in his elbow. He played the other three games in center because they were interleague games in Cincinnati. "I think there is still a little something in there," said Wedge. "I think we'll keep playing it day by day. He'll DH, for sure, tomorrow and then we'll re-evaluate to see ..."
Sizemore's ailing elbow puts a crimp in Indians' starting lineup
"Grady Sizemore still isn't hitting leadoff or playing center field. His left elbow hasn't stopped hurting, either. The Indians are going to have a decision to make in the next few days. "We talked about it today," manager Eric Wedge said before Saturday night's game. "He definitely feels better staying away from [throwing] the baseball." Sizemore has spent nine of the last 12 games at DH because of elbow irritation. He played the other three games in center because they were interleague games in Cincinnati. "I think there is still a little something in there," said Wedge. "I think we'll keep playing it day by day. He'll DH, for sure, tomorrow and then we'll re-evaluate to see if we want ..."
Slumping Sizemore gets some relief
"Grady Sizemore isn't the designated-hitter type. Too restless, too hyperactive is Sizemore, who now is No. 2 in the Indians' batting order. And for the second consecutive game, Sizemore was the DH Wednesday night against the Kansas City Royals. Manager Eric Wedge was hoping that Sizemore would extricate himself from the slump that has been plaguing him almost from Day One of the season. That didn't happen, so Wedge began giving him periodic days off, allowing Sizemore to get away from the various pressures that can derail a hitter faster than a 98 mile-per-hour fastball. Sizemore didn't play Sunday, and Monday was an off day. When play resumed Tuesday night, he was dropped from the leadoff ..."
Sizemore makes rare start in two-hole
"Grady Sizemore is slumping, and Indians manager Eric Wedge has noticed that Sizemore's struggles are taking a toll on his franchise cornerstone center fielder. Sizemore is pushing, pressing and trying to do anything to bust out of an extended slump that has kept his batting average below .240 for most of May. So Wedge did something a little unusual on Monday, penciling Sizemore's name in the two-hole as the Indians' designated hitter. Wedge has always used Sizemore almost strictly in the leadoff role. Sizemore batted leadoff over 150 times the last three seasons and he's only hit second twice in 719 career games. But Wedge thinks that having Sizemore hit second might cool some of the ..."
Sizemore receives
"Regular leadoff hitter Grady Sizemore made his first appearance of the season at the No. 2 spot in the Indians' batting order tonight. ''I'm just trying to take a little heat off Grady,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''He's been pushing and pressing, trying to do too much. We'll have someone else hit first and let Grady see a few pitches. I'm making the switch for him.'' Sizemore has been in a slump for most of the season and came into the game batting .220. Not only did he bat behind Asdrubal Cabrera tonight, he got a rest from playing center field as the designated hitter. Ben Francisco took over in center."
Sizemore's leadoff homer sets Cleveland Indians record
"Grady Sizemore, the Indians' struggling leadoff hitter, finally started a game the right way. Sizemore hit his first leadoff homer of the season tonight to give the Indians a 1-0 lead against Tampa Bay. The homer made Sizemore the franchise leader with 19, breaking a tie with Kenny Lofton. Scott Kazmir threw a fat 2-0 pitch that Sizemore hit high and deep into the right-field seats. It was his seventh homer of the season and his first since April 23. Last season Sizemore hit seven leadoff homers. Manager Eric Wedge hinted earlier in the week that he might move Sizemore out of the leadoff spot. However, before tonight's game he said Sizemore had started to look better in the last few games. ..."
