Evgeni Malkin News

Penguins counting on Malkin to be ready
"Evgeni Malkin has not played in a game since Oct. 28, so he might need a little time to regain his rhythm when he rejoins the Penguins' lineup tonight. Malkin seems to understand that, and even has a pretty good idea of how long it will take for him to shake off whatever rust has accumulated on his game during the past few weeks. Precisely as long as it will take him to skate from the bench to wherever the first faceoff involving him is being held. "If I play [tonight], I'll play my first shift and be 100 percent," Malkin said. "I'm ready." The Penguins are counting on it. They assigned forward Chris Conner to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre yesterday, meaning that Malkin is part of a ..."
Malkin skates, feels good
"The Penguins have sustained a startling number of injuries in the past three weeks, but help finally appears on the way. C Evgeni Malkin skated Thursday morning and appears on the verge of returning to the lineup. He might play Saturday against Boston at Mellon Arena. "It was my second time practicing hard and it feels good," Malkin said. "It was a good rest. I feel stronger now. I feel awesome. I won't play tonight (Thursday) but maybe next game." The Penguins had not scored a power play goal entering Thursday night's game during Malkin's absence. It has been two weeks since Penguins coach Dan Bylsma announced Malkin was out with a shoulder injury. At the time, the team said he would miss ..."
Malkin increases practice load
"Penguins All-Star center Evgeni Malkin described his status as "day to day" yesterday after he participated with the team in its morning skate at TD Garden. Malkin, still wearing a red, non-contact jersey, had been joining the team at the end of practice, but this time he came out at the beginning with everyone else and remained out for an extra half-hour. "I'm still working. It feels better," he said of his strained right shoulder. "I'm closer, day to day." He took part in some of the drills and, toward the end of the skate, had teammates set him for slap shots. The injury is to his non-shooting shoulder."
Malkin returns for limited practice
"Were he the coach of Penguins' opponents, Dan Bylsma acknowledges he'd feel they "were easier to deal with" because superstar center Evgeni Malkin has missed five consecutive games with a strained right shoulder. Teams should probably get their licks in over the coming days, because Malkin returned to the ice for practice Saturday - albeit in a limited and no-contact capacity - for the first time since a home game against Montreal on Oct. 28. "I'm not shooting hard, but when I skate, my shoulder is not sore," Malkin said before the Penguins played the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion. "It's very tough for me. I played three years without an injury. "Hopefully, I only need (to miss) a couple ..."
Malkin only player not skating
"Center Evgeni Malkin is the only Penguins player not skating. Coach Dan Bylsma said Malkin's recovery from a shoulder strain is "progressing in rehab, and the important part is the rest part of it," Bylsma said. Defenseman Sergei Gonchar, meanwhile, said he will have his cast removed and an X-ray taken on his broken left wrist after the road trip. "If everything is fine there, we're going to start thinking about doing more in practice, maybe shooting more," Gonchar said. Prep school friendsPenguins center Sidney Crosby and Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jack Johnson are friends dating to their teen years when they were teammates at Shattuck, a Minnesota prep school, in 2002-03. They were ..."
Penguins bench Malkin due to shoulder strain
"Coach Dan Bylsma, general manager Ray Shero and All-Star center Evgeni Malkin emerged from a closed-door meeting after practice yesterday at Mellon Arena with news of the latest injury problem for a Penguins team that so far hasn't been slowed because of missing players. Malkin, it turns out, played the past several games -- including a 6-1 win Wednesday against Montreal in which he took six shots and registered an assist -- despite a strained right shoulder. Team officials persuaded him to shut down for what Bylsma called "a couple weeks." "We're worried about the safety in the shoulder," Bylsma said. "A couple weeks, some rehab, some rest, we'll get that thing ready so we can get him ..."
Penguins' Malkin to miss 'couple weeks' with injury
"Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss "a couple weeks" because of a strained right shoulder, coach Dan Bylsma announced after practice today at Mellon Arena. Malkin is tied with Sidney Crosby for the team scoring lead with 14 points. Last season, he won the NHL regular-season and playoff scoring titles and was the playoff MVP as he helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup."
Pens' Malkin to miss next two weeks with 'shoulder strain'
"Penguins star Evgeni Malkin is going to miss the next two weeks with what coach Dan Bylsma called a "shoulder strain." The injury is not to the shoulder Malkin injured three years ago. He was injured in a 2006 collision with John LeClair in a preseason game, missing the first four games of his NHL career. Bylsma said Malkin injured his shoulder a couple of weeks ago and has been playing in pain. Malkin does not want to miss any time but the coaching staff is forcing him to rest for two weeks."
Senators gear up for Crosby, Malkin
"A day after enjoying their turkey dinners, the Senators would like nothing better than to feast on some more bird. On their menu tonight is Penguin. A visit from Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar and the Stanley Cup champs from Pittsburgh comes at a perfect time for an Ottawa club that has the hockey world — including itself — wondering exactly how good it is. Beating the Penguins tonight (7:30 p.m., Rogers Sportsnet East, Team 1200) would give the streaking Senators a share of the Eastern Conference lead with Crosby's crew and the New York Rangers. Ah, if only something like that could be uttered around Easter too, eh? Senators fans would indeed be thankful. "These games are ..."

Malkin to play, Crosby out for tonight's game
"Center Evgeni Malkin, the reigning NHL scoring champion and playoff MVP, will headline the Penguins' lineup tonight against Toronto in the Pens' second and final home preseason game. Several other regulars will play, but not center Sidney Crosby, who had two goals and an assist Tuesday against Columbus."
