Eddie Royal News & Rumors

Clady, McGahee, Royal miss Broncos' practice
"Three Broncos offensive starters were missing from the start of practice today as the team began preparing for Sunday's game against Chicago. Left tackle Ryan Clady?, running back Willis McGahee? and wide receiver Eddie Royal? are all being held out of practice because of injuries suffered last week in Minnesota. Clady appeared to suffer a knee injury on the team's final offensive play in the 35-32 win against the Vikings. McGahee limped off the field late in that game as well. Royal suffered a concussion in a collision with teammate Matt Willis on a punt return."
Broncos' Miller, Royal may miss Vikings game
"The Broncos may have to play the Minnesota Vikings? this Sunday without star rookie linebacker Von Miller and No. 2 receiver Eddie Royal?. Miller, with 10 1/2 sacks through 11 games, underwent surgery Tuesday to repair torn ligaments in his thumb. He suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of the Broncos' 16-13 overtime win at San Diego on Sunday. Miller refused to come out of the game. After getting taped, he made a crucial defensive stop in overtime, tackling running back Ryan Mathews for a 4-yard loss. That pushed the Chargers' game-winning field goal attempt back to 53 yards, from where Nick Novak?'s boot faded wide right. Ordinarily, this type of thumb injury would keep Miller"
Broncos' Royal named AFC special-teams player of week
"All it took was a game-breaking, 85-yard punt return touchdown for the Broncos to earn their first individual honor of the season. Eddie Royal? was named the AFC's special-teams player of the week because of his punt return against the Raiders, a play that gave the Broncos a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter of their 38-24 victory. It was Royal's first punt return of the season. He signaled for one fair catch against Cincinnati on Sept. 18."
Broncos' Eddie Royal makes most of opportunity to return punt
"Some things in football are well planned. Eddie Royal's game Sunday in Oakland showed there always should be a place for spontaneity. In a 38-24 victory over the Raiders, Royal became the first Broncos player in 29 years to score touchdowns on a reception and a punt return in the same game. Royal scored on a 26-yard reception and 85-yard punt return. Not since Rick Upchurch in 1982 had a Broncos player pulled off such a double score. Neither of Royal's scores was game-planned. On his touchdown reception, Royal broke off his pattern and "sat" in an open area around the Raiders' 10-yard line. Tebow found him."
Royal "loves" his situation with Broncos
"A day after the NFL's trade deadline passed, Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal? reaffirmed his desire to be with the team. Royal was one of the players the Broncos had made available recently. The Broncos traded Brandon Lloyd on Monday morning to the Rams. "I'm happy to be here," Royal said Wednesday. "I love playing for the Broncos. I love the fans. I love the organization." Royal repeatedly emphasized he did not personally request a trade but acknowledged "a lot of business parts of this game." Royal expects to play this Sunday at Miami. He has missed the past three games with a groin injury. He has four catches this season."
Broncos WR Eddie Royal joins Brandon Lloyd in trade talks
"There ought to be some interesting chatter around the breakfast table Monday morning at Dove Valley. Not only is the Broncos' No. 1 receiver, Brandon Lloyd, available for trade, but so is fellow receiver Eddie Royal, according to an NFL source. Royal was the team's No. 2 receiver until he suffered a partially torn groin in week 2. He and Lloyd are eligible for free agency at season's end. It could always change in the next day or two but perhaps because of his groin injury, Royal hasn't generated much interest in the trade market."
Lombardi: Broncos have to trade WR Lloyd
"The Broncos' decision to name Tim Tebow the starting quarterback likely will have a domino effect on the offense that begins with WR Brandon Lloyd and also could include WR Eddie Royal, according to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi. "I think they have to trade Brandon Lloyd," Lombardi said Sunday on "Gameday Morning". "They knew going in that you put Tim Tebow under center Brandon Lloyd's effectiveness within the offense is not going to be there. Plus, his contract is expiring at the end of the season, he won't be in Denver." Lombardi sees no shortage of suitors for Lloyd, the NFL's leading receiver last season."
Denver Broncos still hobbled, but their injury report improves
"And on the next-to-last day of summer, key Broncos returned to practice. The official start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere is later than usual this year, with the autumnal equinox landing at 3:04 a.m. MDT on Friday. The Broncos' training room didn't wait that long to fill up. There is some relief this week with the return of wide receiver Brandon Lloyd? (groin), tailback Knowshon Moreno? (hamstring), defensive end Elvis Dumervil? (shoulder) and linebacker D.J. Williams (elbow). "We're still short a few, but it's good to have those guys back out there," coach John Fox said. "It's nice to be able to get through a practice. We've kind of struggled in the first couple weeks just getting"
Broncos' Eddie Royal out at least two weeks
"After being forced to play - and somehow win - a game without five starters, John Fox today said he's "very hopeful" at least a couple players will be able to return this week. The Broncos beat Cincinnati 24-22 on Sunday without their best cornerback, pass rusher, linebacker, wide receiver and starting tailback. "I'm hoping we don't have to repeat yesterday's depth chart," Fox said. Among the players who won't be back in time for Sunday's game at Tennessee are wide receiver Eddie Royal and tight end Julius Thomas, who were both injured in the first half against the Bengals. Royal will be out at least two weeks with a strained groin, though his likely return won't be until after the"
Julius Thomas, Eddie Royal out at least two weeks
"Broncos receiver Eddie Royal is expected to be out two to four weeks with a strained groin and "receiving" tight end Julius Thomas will also be out at least two weeks because of a high ankle sprain. Both players suffered their injuries in the first half of the Broncos' 24-22 win Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals at Sports Authority Field at Mile High."
Eddie Royal: Broncos WR talks nicknames and new coach John Fox
"Ever wanted to ask a sports personality a question? Now's your chance. They will answer readers' questions in The Denver Post's "Fan Mail" feature. In this week's installment, Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal talks nicknames, playing for new coach John Fox, and pitching for Taco Bell. Keep an eye out for next week's installment, or submit an idea for the next participant. Send your Qs in an email to fanmail@denverpost.com. With a name like yours, I'm sure you have had some great nicknames in the past. Care to share? — Glenn, Grand Junction ER: I kind of just go with the flow. I have had plenty of them, and the play on my name gets kind of funny. I don't want to put too much out there. But"
Eddie Royal already 100 percent
"Do not place Eddie Royal alongside Demaryius Thomas in the group of injured of Broncos receivers. Thomas is expected to miss at least half the season recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. Put Royal in the healthy group that includes the likes of Brandon Lloyd, Eric Decker and Jabar Gaffney. Royal had hip surgery in February by Vail's Dr. Marc Philippon, who has performed similar operations on the likes of Alex Rodriguez, Kurt Warner and Brandon Marshall. "I'm ready to go," Royal said after running routes for quarterback Brady Quinn following conditioning workout Thursday at Valor Christian High School. "I will not miss a day of practice. I can't wait to get out there and run through"
Broncos' Eddie Royal attends Monday workout
"Broncos bosses John Elway-John Fox-Brian Xanders must have been pleased to learn Eddie Royal had joined the team's players-only conditioning session Monday, 3 1/2 months after the receiver/returner underwent hip surgery. When Royal's hip surgery was first announced on Feb. 7, Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth said the team hoped he would "be ready for OTAs in late-May." It's late-May and Royal is ready. So, Mr. Smyth, what happened to the OTAs?"
Broncos' Eddie Royal recovering from hip surgery
"Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal, who caught only two passes during the team's final three games this past season, is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his hip. Royal had the procedure done shortly after the season, and the best-case scenario is a five-month recovery. That would have Royal back on the field on at least a limited basis if the team has organized team workouts in May. It is possible the recovery could stretch into the six-month range. If there is no new collective bargaining agreement and the owners lock out the players, they will not participate in any offseason workouts until there is a new CBA."
Chargers' woes may be Royal's opening
"At the moment for Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal, making history is history. But the last time Royal played on a Monday night in San Diego, he became the 11th player in NFL history to return a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the same game. "I didn't know at the time what it meant," Royal said. "I had no idea. Really, I was just happy we won. I was just happy to contribute." Last October, in what was the sixth victory of the Broncos' 6-0 start in 2009, Royal returned a first-quarter kickoff 93 yards to tie the game at 7-7, then he returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for a 17-10 Broncos lead. Denver won 34-23."
Eddie Royal back on target at Broncos training camp
"After somewhat of a quiet opening week of training camp, wide receiver Eddie Royal stood out in team drills Thursday. Royal was a frequent target for Kyle Orton as the Broncos' offense worked through red zone drills. Royal made a diving catch in the back right corner of the endzone, gathering the ball as he rolled over after a tackle by cornerback Nate Jones. However, the play was waved off by officials. The NFL had officials in Broncos camp for the first time and they will be on hand today too. Royal later scored on another play, also from Orton, this time as he crossed into the middle of the field."
Denver on lookout to give Royal some special-teams relief on kick returns
"Wide receiver Eddie Royal almost certainly will be one of the Broncos' kick returners this season, but coach Josh McDaniels said the hunt is still on to choose who will give Royal some help. Because Royal's primary role is on offense, the Broncos likely won't expose him to the risk of injury that would come with kickoff and punt returns. So rookies Alphonso Smith and Kenny McKinley have done the bulk of the work so far in the preseason, and rookie Nate Swift returned two punts in Seattle. However, McKinley and Smith bobbled kickoffs in the Broncos' 27-13 loss to the Seahawks on Saturday night, and McKinley later fumbled on another return. Asked after the game if he would take another look"
