Dustin Brown News & Rumors

No hearing scheduled on Dustin Brown hit
"Dustin Brown's overtime hit on Michal Rozsival had the Phoenix Coyotes jawing at him in the handshake line and calling for his head afterward. But there's no hearing scheduled for the Los Angeles Kings captain. Brown, known for his physical play, hit Rozsival as he cut across the blue line. Though there was leg contact, Brown's shoulder also hit Rozsival's shoulder."
Coyotes might have lost more than Game 2
"As the sun and the Phoenix Coyotes sank slowly in the West, the key question after the Kings' 4-0 conference finals victory Tuesday was whether the NHL, which has operated the Coyotes franchise for three years, will suspend one or more of its players for the frustration-driven fouls they committed. The lesser of the evils was Shane Doan's hit on Kings forward Trevor Lewis at 16 minutes 29 seconds of the second period at Jobing.com Arena. Doan, the Coyotes' captain, drove Lewis into the boards after Lewis had turned his back, and got a major boarding penalty and a game misconduct while Lewis was treated for a cut and bloodied nose."
Line of Dustin Brown-Anze Kopitar-Justin Williams tough to handle
"They won a mere two games in December and ended up using seven goalies during a not-so-memorable Kings season in 2007-08. But one of those goalies — Jason LaBarbera — recognized something special in two of the Kings' young forwards, Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar. They had career breakthrough performances that season, scoring 33 and 32 goals, respectively. "You could see how great they were going to be," said LaBarbera, who is now the Phoenix Coyotes' backup goalie. "They've always been really good players. But they've never been on that pedestal they are on now. They're doing what they're supposed to be doing.""
Dustin Brown keeps Los Angeles Kings sizzling in 4-2 win over Coyotes
"Slowly, but surely, Kings captain Dustin Brown is edging toward the promised land, the place almost no one thought he might reach. Inching toward awesome. That means getting called "awesome," or being described that way by Kings Coach Darryl Sutter, who holds that deep in reserve for his highest level of praise. The Kings won the opener of the Western Conference finals, beating Phoenix, 4-2, at Jobing.com Arena on Sunday night, giving them six consecutive road playoff wins and leaving them three wins away from a spot in the Stanley Cup finals."
Los Angeles Kings, especially Dustin Brown, appreciate the rest
"After playing a bruising series against the St. Louis Bluesand delivering enough hits to rank fifth among playoff performers, Kings captain Dustin Brown was glad to get some rest Monday. For his mind. His body needed the respite after he dished out 39 hits over two rounds and helped carry the Kings to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 1993. But Brown, who had six points in the team's sweep of St. Louis and has 11 points in the playoffs, said the cerebral side of the game has taxed him more than the physical side during upsets of the No. 1-seeded Vancouver Canucks and No. 2-seeded Blues."
What can Brown do? Plenty
"This was the perfect way for the Kings to celebrate their nearly two decades-long drought of playing in the Western Conference finals. The Dustin Brown way. The captain, who shockingly was rumored to be traded this season, scored a tiebreaking goal late in the first period to give the Kings the lead in the Western Conference semifinals over the St. Louis Blues. After St. Louis pulled goalie Brian Elliott in the final minute, Brown was the one who banged home an empty-netter to send a sellout crowd of 18,373 desperate, loud, towel-waving fans into euphoria Sunday afternoon."
Good times roll for Los Angeles Kings' Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar
"As the longest-serving current Kings, forwards Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar have been through the worst of hockey times. Brown, who made his NHL debut during the 2003-04 season, and Kopitar, who made an immediate impact as a rookie in 2006-07, have been there for all the broken promises and unrealized dreams, through coaching changes and baffling lineup shuffles. They allowed their optimism to flower when things changed for the better and persevered when the young team sometimes took two steps back for every three steps forward."
Brown's hit benches Blues' confidence
"Nothing summed up the Kings' swagger more than the hit captain Dustin Brown put on St. Louis winger David Backes that sent him into his own bench in the second period. Backes is supposed to be the Blues' big, physical, imposing threat. He's supposed to embody the aggressive nature of the Blues. The Kings were supposed to give him that always-know-where-he's-at-on-the-ice attention. Brown made a clean hit on Backes, but it was more than just a hit. This was a message. The Kings aren't just winning. They're pummeling the Blues, and the visitors have shockingly given up. That hit was like Brown just knocked him back to St. Louis. The Kings are confident. You see it in every shift, with every"
KINGS 1, VANCOUVER 0: Captain Brown scores lone goal as L.A. takes 3-0 series lead
"The Kings have moved to within one game of the greatest upset in franchise history since 1982's "Miracle on Manchester," when they toppled Wayne Gretzky's Edmonton Oilers. The eighth-seeded Kings dropped the league-leading Vancouver Canucks 1-0 Sunday in front of 18,352 fans at Staples Center, taking a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven, first-round series. This victory marked the first time in franchise history that the Kings have taken a 3-0 lead in a playoff series. "It's definitely something to be proud of but we can't stop here. We didn't make the playoffs just to be up three-nothing in a series," Drew Doughty said. "We want to win this series and go all the way to the Stanley Cup"
Dustin Brown remains a cornerstone for Kings
"Sounds of little-kid celebration wafted upstairs and pierced Dustin Brown's bubble of sick-bay isolation. Captain, contagious. Not only was Kings captain Brown ailing, feeling sweaty and cold at the same time, and unable to fully participate in the birthday party for two of his three sons, but also he would later endure one of his worst weeks on the job. How about getting called out and traded out of town?"
Rangers reportedly interested in Kings' Dustin Brown after LA gets Jeff Carter
"The Rangers are one of several teams with high interest in Los Angeles Kings right winger Dustin Brown, who is now potentially available with just three days remaining before the NHL trade deadline, TSN's Bob McKenzie is reporting. The Kings dealt defenseman Jack Johnson and a first-round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night for maligned forward Jeff Carter. McKenzie reported the Kings now could be dangling Brown, their captain, and that teams with "high levels of interest" include the Rangers, Devils, Flyers, Bruins, Sabres, Oilers, Maple Leafs and Canucks."
Kings coach says he needs more from Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar
"This time, the tough message wasn't aimed at struggling forward Dustin Penner. Instead, Kings Coach Darryl Sutter directed it at his star players, captain Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar, calling out the duo. "These guys talk too much about the team," Sutter said Monday after practice. "They should talk more about themselves. What they bring to the table. If they were in any other environment, there'd be ..." Sutter explained the rest of his thought. "In terms of the responsibility that they have, in terms of their production," he said, "… Kopi and Brownie have been stale — from my standpoint — for a little while, together.""
Dustin Brown, Mike Green and Sedin twins are finalists for Foundation Player Award
"Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown, Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green and Vancouver Canucks forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin are the finalists for the 13th Annual NHL Foundation Player Award, the National Hockey League announced today. The award recognizes an NHL player who applies the core values of hockey – commitment, perseverance and teamwork – to enrich the lives of people in his community. The winner will be announced Wednesday, June 22, during the 2011 NHL Awards from the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Hotel Las Vegas. The 2011 NHL Awards will be broadcast by VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada. NHL Clubs submitted nominations for the NHL Foundation"
Dustin Brown avoids suspension for illegal check to the head
"Right wing Dustin Brown was not suspended by the NHL after being penalized for an illegal check to the head Monday, and he will be in the Kings' lineup Wednesday against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. However, Brown said he's confused by the rule the league adopted this season in an effort to minimize blows to the head. "No one even knows what the rules are anymore. Is it blindside? Or lateral?" Brown said Tuesday after the Kings practiced at the United Center. "I thought the whole rule was hits to the head." For everyone's knowledge here is the wording: Rule 48 — Illegal Check to the Head 48.1 A lateral or blind side hit to an opponent where the head is targeted"
Dustin Brown has grown with the Kings
"In two years Dustin Brown has gone from the youngest captain in the Kings' history to the senior active player with the team, a progression both startling and significant. The hard-hitting right wing from Ithaca, N.Y., was a month short of 24 when he became the 15th captain in franchise history on Oct. 8, 2008. With Alexander Frolov departing as a free agent over the summer, Brown is the only player remaining on the Kings from the 2005-06 season, the first after the lockout. Taking it another step, Brown, center Anze Kopitar and defenseman Jack Johnson are the lone holdovers from the 2006-07 season, the first under General Manager Dean Lombardi. That team won 27 games and earned only 68"
Flames ride hit parade to victory
"Master of the understatement, Flames coach Brent Sutter issued the following comment after his team's 2-1 win Thursday over the Kings. "We wanted to be a team that was more involved physically." Uh, yeah. That was quite obvious. Every period, the Flames out-hit the Kings — 7-3, 11-5, 8-2 -- en route to a 26-10 game total. And Los Angeles, it should be noted, is one of the hittingest groups on the circuit, led by captain Dustin Brown. But it was Brown who wore the bull's-eye Thursday. Mark Giordano rammed him four times, the final time a real rattler. Nothing dirty, however, just punishing checks. Giordano wasn't alone. Fellow rearguards Robyn Regehr and Aaron Johnson and Dion Phaneuf all"
Hard-hitting Flames conquer visiting Kings
"Weary and battered, the Los Angeles Kings might have expected a more gracious group of hosts. Especially with Christmas right around the corner. With half a dozen regulars sidelined, stuck playing their 10th match in 17 nights, the Kings would have appreciated a pleasantly uneventful get-together. You know, a nice 60-minute sashay. Let the best power play win. Instead, the Calgary Flames appeared bent on sending the Angelenos home in an ice bag. Particularly eye-catching was Mark Giordano's lump-inducing work on Kings captain -- and National Hockey League hit leader -- Dustin Brown. A handful of times, Giordano singled out Brown for misery. Tone set by Giordano and the rest of the"
