Dez Bryant News & Rumors

Cowboys' Bryant striving to beat health, consistency issues
"Dez Bryant often cringes when he watches film of himself from last season. The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver said he never really felt 100 percent last year after suffering a quad injury in the opener that sidelined him in Week 2. As a result, his play suffered. "Some of the game tape I watched from last year, I wasn't really too proud of myself, and I know it's because of injuries," Bryant said. "I don't think I was ever where I wanted to be. ... It was the injuries. I don't feel like they healed quick enough.""
Dez Bryant hopes to shake injuries and start fulfilling potential
"Dez Bryant insists he is working hard to be the best he can be. The question, though, remains: How good can he be? Bryant arrived in Dallas to great fanfare after the Cowboys traded up three spots to No. 24 overall in 2010 to take the talented receiver from Oklahoma State. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones immediately gave Bryant jersey No. 88, which Drew Pearson and Michael Irvin made famous. Yet, after two seasons, Bryant and the Cowboys are left wanting."
Dez Bryant says injury kept him for living up to expectations last season
"Dez Bryant injured his thigh when he took a helmet to the leg on a punt return in the first half of the first game last season. He missed only one game -- the victory over San Francisco in Week 2 -- but Bryant admits the injury never fully healed, preventing him from having the type of season he wanted. "I don't think I was ever where I wanted to be," Bryant said Wednesday. Bryant made 63 receptions for 928 yards and nine touchdowns in his second season, but it left him and the Cowboys wanting more."
Dez Bryant: Cowboys receivers will enjoy going against Morris Claiborne
"Cowboys wide receivers coach Jimmy Robinson said last week that Dez Bryant has been having a good off-season. That's music to a Cowboys fan's ears considering Bryant was often in the news for the wrong reasons last year at this time. The 2010 first round pick was given a criminal trespass warning at a Dallas mall in March 2011. He was also involved in multiple lawsuits from unpaid loans. Bryant responded by improving statistically on the field, however, he failed to record a single 100-yard receiving game and he faded in the fourth quarter on several occasions."
Texans' Johnson, Cowboys' Bryant restructure contracts
"Two of the league's most explosive wide receivers — Andre Johnson of the Texans and Dez Bryant of the Cowboys — are among those who are restructuring their deals in order to create more salary cap space for their teams, according to sources. In both cases, the maneuvers were simple. Johnson converted his base salary ($6.5 million) to a bonus and spread it out over a number of years. In Bryant's case, he converted a $1.435 million roster bonus to a signing bonus and pro-rated it as well."
Jerry Jones hasn't talk to Dez Bryant about Miami incident because he says he didn't think it was significant enough
"Cowboys Jerry Jones said he has yet to talk to receiver Dez Bryant regarding the altercation he had a Miami night club with rapper Lil Wayne and his entourage last month. Coach Jason Garrett said he hasn't talked to Bryant either. Considering Bryant's off the field issues of the past and the extra attention Jones has given him to make sure he stays out of trouble, it's surprising the Cowboys wouldn't at least speak to him about the incident. But Jones said he's just been too busy, he didn't think the incident was significant enough and not something worth emphasizing."
Giants receivers know how to run routes; Dez Bryant makes up his own
"Comparing Dez Bryant to Giants receive Victor Cruz. Fraley: The Giants receivers seemed to know the routes they were running, unlike Dez Bryant who makes up his own as he goes along. Victor Cruz and Dez Bryant have been in the league the same amount of time. Who would you want right now?"
Michael Irvin on Dez Bryant: he "will be the best receiver in the NFL''
"Dez Bryant did not have a 100-yard game this season. He has produced only one in his first two seasons in the league. But Michael Irvin doesn't dwell on that. The Hall of Fame receiver, who periodically speaks to Bryant, has seen progress in how the young receiver runs his routes and adjusts to coverage. Bryant did catch 63 passes for 928 yards and nine touchdowns this past season."
Dez Bryant, DeMarco Murray and Tyron Smith could become 'blue-chip players' in 2012
"On the talent level of the Cowboys' roster: I listed six guys – Romo, Witten, DeMarcus Ware , Jay Ratliff, Sean Lee and Dan Bailey – those six are as good any playing their positions in the NFL . And I think Dez Bryant , DeMarco Murray, Tyron Smith, there are a few others that could go into that group. That's nine guys next year that are potential blue-chip players on this team. We learned from Jimmy Johnson, you win with your blue-chip players. The Cowboys have an ample amount of blue-chip caliber players. The key is now you've got to fill in around them, you've got to find some guys that can cover against the pass, you've got to find another pass rusher, you've got to find some bigger"
Dez Bryant, others show need for accountability partners is growing
"In these trying economic times, all of us are looking to create new revenue streams, and part of the recovery process includes all sorts of new jobs that had not existed previously. I am now volunteering my services, for a small fee, as a professional Accountability Partner for any and all FW/d professional athletes. The Accountability Partners field is a growth sector of the sports economy, both here in the greater FW/d and nationwide. Ohio State, USC or certainly Miami could easily design and offer this as a major requiring only 30 credit hours, and an internship in a big-league city. Completion of the degree requires only that your friend (we don't call them "clients") remain rap-sheet"
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett hasn't spoken to Dez Bryant since nightclub incident
"Since Dez Bryant was reportedly involved in an altercation at a Miami nightclub earlier this week, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett hasn't personally discussed the incident with the young wide receiver. "I have not spoken to him since then," Garrett said. "People in our organization have." Garrett was asked if he was troubled by the episode - the latest in a series of negative events that have sullied Bryant's reputation since he joined the Cowboys in 2010. Last year, he was given a criminal-trespass warning at NorthPark mall and faced multiple lawsuits in which the plaintiffs alleged that he had failed to resolve unpaid debts. All three cases were reportedly settled."
Report: Lil Wayne involved in nightclub altercation with Cowboys' Dez Bryant
"Dez Bryant may not be the only high-profile name involved in Sunday's nightclub altercation at Club LIV. As Miami Herald reporter David Smiley tweeted on Wednesday night, rapper Lil Wayne may have been involved in the fight with Bryant."
Cowboys shouldn't invest a contract in 'ticking time bomb' Dez Bryant
"On what the Cowboys should do with Dez Bryant going forward: I think Dez Bryant is a huge problem because he's so talented, but there are so many issues that come with Dez. It's whether he's capable of learning the entire offense, and if he's capable of behaving himself off the field. I think you are who you hang around with, and if you're in those kind of areas where there's trouble, it's a problem. This is a ticking time bomb. I think the Cowboys need to definitely monitor the situation, but I think the fundamental question they need to ask is if they want to invest a contact in Dez Bryant going forward. And I think the answer to that question is no."
Cowboys' Dez Bryant is a prima donna receiver that just wants the ball thrown up there
"On Dez Bryant's stock at the moment: You can't trust him. He wasn't considered by a lot of teams [coming out of the draft] because a lot of little things; nothing criminal. He's just irresponsible and not mature. If you hit, keep him and he grows up, then you may have a great football player. But he just hasn't grown up yet."
Can Cowboys trust Dez Bryant off the field? For now, answer is no
"Late in the season, Cowboys wide receivers coach Jimmy Robinson said something about Dez Bryant that stuck with me. Robinson was asked if Bryant was making fewer mental mistakes - on the field - and had become a better player for it. Robinson's answer could just as easily have been used for a question about Bryant's growth - or lack there of - off the field. "He'll make a mistake every now and then, but he doesn't make that many. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He understands what he's doing. We try to put him in situations where it's not easy to make mistakes," Robinson said. "He's like any young player. Every now and then, something different kind of comes up and you react to it and"
Report: Cowboys' Dez Bryant detained after altercation in Miami nightclub
"Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is in the news again for an off-field incident. The second-year wideout from Oklahoma State reportedly got in his latest trouble outside of the D-FW area. According to WFAA, Bryant was detained by Miami police Sunday night after an altercation at a nightclub. There has been no official confirmation that he was arrested, though."
Dez Bryant must keep Miles Austin from settling in comfort zone
"Do you think Miles Austin will play like he did three years ago or will he become another guy whose play has decreased after a Jerry payday? Austin turns 28 this season. He still has some quality years left in his legs. But I agree, he hasn't been the same receiver since signing is last contract. Even in the stretches of the season that he was healthy he had little impact. This will be an important year for him. It sure would help the Cowboys if Dez Bryant decided to play to his ability and challenge to become the No. 1 receiver on this team. But if Bryantn isn't going to push Austin, he can settle into a comfort zone. That's one of the problems at Valley Ranch-- too many players have"
Dez Bryant: 'I feel like I did OK' during second NFL season
"Dez Bryant played in all but one game during his second NFL season, catching 63 passes for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. The 2010 first round pick improved in all major receiving stat categories after having his rookie season ended prematurely because of an ankle fracture. "I feel like I did OK," Bryant said Monday. "I feel like it could have been 10 times better, but as a team, we played well. In a couple of our games earlier in the season we fell short in games we should have won. If we won those games we would have never got to this point, but you know, things happen.""
Report: Cowboys WR Dez Bryant facing another lawsuit for unpaid debt
"Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is facing another lawsuit, according to a Boston Herald report. Endurance Capital Fund, a New York-based investment firm, is seeking to recoup more than $50,000 of a $100,000 loan that the company said it gave Bryant and has alleged the Cowboys receiver has refused to pay the amount he owes. Attempts to serve Bryant haven't been successful, the report says. Bryant is no stranger to legal trouble. Earlier this year he settled two lawsuits in which he was alleged to have not paid large sums of money for jewelry he had ordered."
Why Dez Bryant's route running a concern on slant passes
"The quick slant to Dez Bryant seemed to work very well last weekend and should be almost impossible to cover if he gets inside position on the defensive back. I don't think Tony Romo is comfortable throwing it, though. Any idea why? Leigh Buchalter, Plantation, Fla. GEORGE: I think Romo is comfortable making that pass. He has a quick release and is accurate. The Cowboys have used the slant more as the season has progressed. One concern on running slants is when a receiver stops on the route or doesn't get off the ball and away from the cornerback quick enough. Those quick passes in those situations can lead to tipped balls for interceptions. Bryant sometimes struggles running precise"
Cowboys WR Dez Bryant sports interesting shirt after practice
"Near the end of Wednesday's media availability at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch practice facility, it was announced over the loudspeaker in the locker room that players were about to attend a Pro Bowl voting session. Shortly before that, Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant strolled past reporters, sporting a pretty comical piece of clothing considering where the team was headed. Bryant had on a Nike t-shirt that said: "LAZY BUT TALENTED." Here's a photo of the shirt. Not sure if Bryant planned to wear the shirt on purpose, mocking those who contest that the young playmaker is talented but lacks the proper work ethic, but either way, it was comical enough to get a laugh from a few reporters."
Dez & Robinson not as good as Miles Austin; why Bryant doesn't get ball more
"Why don't they throw to Dez Bryant more? David Moore: I'll answer that with another question: why haven't the Cowboys thrown more to Jason Witten in the first half the last two games? He had no receptions in the first half of those games. With Miles Austin out, coordinators have set their defensive sights on Witten and Bryant. They feel if they take one, or both, out of the game for long stretches the offense will struggle. The Cowboys have been able to survive and eventually get the ball to both players because of the presence DeMarco Murray gives them on the ground and what Laurent Robinson has done at receiver. And one other point: while Bryant is explosive, I'm not sure consistency and"
Second jewelry lawsuit against Dez Bryant has been settled
"A Colleyville jeweler has dropped his lawsuit against Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant and his adviser David Wells. Eleow Hunt claimed in his most recent filings that Bryant and Wells - a former bail bondsman who co-signed many of the contracts - owed him $129,500 for jewelry and loans made between January 2009 and July 2010. An earlier filing in the case claimed the total owe was $600,000, which appeared to also included jewelry purchase contracts Wells didn't co-sign."
Dez, Felix added to return game
"Dez Bryant has been asking for a chance to return punts, and he finally got his wish in the fourth quarter Thursday. Bryant, who hasn't returned a punt since Miles Austin injured his hamstring against Seattle on Nov. 6, came in to field the Dolphins' final punt with just over three minutes left in the game. Bryant dodged several tacklers on his way to a 20-yard return to the Cowboys 36-yard line, giving the team a spark before its 54-yard drive for the game-winning field goal."
Jerry Jones praises Dez Bryant, Cowboys' 'resolve' in 'important win'
"Jerry Jones joked after Thursday's 20-19 victory over the Dolphins that he needs to talk to Jason Garrett about getting "bigger wins." Jones is looking for 30-point victories to be exact. The Cowboys' owner and general manger could crack jokes, it was a good Thanksgiving for his team, which extended its winning streak to four games. But there were some tense moments in the final minutes. After all, Dallas was forced to punt with 4:54 remaining and Miami clinging to a 19-17 advantage. Highlighted by a Sean Lee sack, the Cowboys forced a three-and-out, and Dez Bryant gave the home team some momentum, returning the ensuing punt to the Cowboys' 36. Ten plays later, Dan Bailey made a 28-yard"
Cowboys Felix Jones gets first crack at returning kickoffs (but doesn't get any carries); Dez Bryant has key punt return
"Cowboys running back Felix Jones received his first crack at returning kickoffs this season Thursday against Miami. And wide receiver Dez Bryant had a key punt return. Jones, who returned to the lineup Sunday at Washington after missing four games with a left high ankle sprain, returned four kickoffs for an 18.5 average. It was the first time Jones had returned a kickoff since the 2009 season. He came into the game with a career average of 24.2 yards on kickoff returns. Felix Jones finished with no carries against Miami after having five in his first game back from injury Sunday against Washington. Rookie starter DeMarco Murray finished with 22 carries, the fifth time he's finished with 20"
Bryant: A healthy Cowboys offense ready to put on show versus the Redskins
"Receiver Dez Bryant said the Cowboys are a different team than the one squeaked by the Redskins 18-16 in Week 3. Last time, the Cowboys were banged, considering that quarterback Tony Romo was recovering from a fractured rib and punctured lung suffered a week before against the 49ers. Receiver Miles Austin missed the game with a hamstring injury. Bryant himself was nursing a deep thigh bruise that kept him out the 49ers game. He said if the Cowboys had more depth that he probably wouldn't have played, even though he had four catches for 63 yards, including a 30-yard grab on the game-winning field goal drive in the fourth quarter."
Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant is good — but he's not a star
"Do you believe Jay Ratliff needs to be moved to Defensive End? Should Dallas draft a NT in the draft? Ratliff consistently commands double teams in this defensive scheme and creates opening for the other ends and linebackers. I understand why people wonder what he could do at end, but I believe he's highly effective where he is now. Do we feel that Tony Romo can trust Dez Bryant now? Is that why a lot of throws weren't going his way? Romo and Bryant have a good overall rapport. Does he trust Bryant as much as Jason Witten or Miles Austin? No. But there are routes that Bryant runs that Romo knows the receiver will be where he's supposed to be and has no problem throwing him the ball. As"
Dez Bryant thrives under pressure; Tony Romo doesn't
"On Dez Bryant's performance against the Bills: Gosselin : I think Dez knew that without Miles Austin, he's going to have to raise his game to become an every down playmaker. He can't disappear in the second half, he can't disappear for two and three quarters at a time. He's got to make catches every series, every quarter, and keep drives going. I think the more pressure you put on Dez, the better player he is. On whether Tony Romo's health has been the biggest factor in his improved play: George: That's part of it, but I really think the running game really opens everything up. With the running game, they really get the vertical passing game going, and when they run the ball, the offensive"
Jerry Jones: Dez Bryant 'has been frustrating and he has been elating'
"Dez Bryant helped set the tone early for the Cowboys on Sunday. The second-year receiver made a nice adjustment on a Tony Romo 34-yard pass, leaping over the top of Buffalo's Leodis McKelvin and coming down with the game's first score. Romo gave all the credit to Bryant on the play and Cowboys owner and general manger Jerry Jones said he was proud to see the young receiver make a play like that. The first quarter catch was a good sign for Bryant and the Cowboys, who have had strong first halves the last two times that Bryant caught the game's first score. The former Oklahoma State standout was responsible for the first score against the New York Jets and the Detroit Lions. Dallas lost both"
Bryant has an eventful day
"Receiver Dez Bryant had another eventful day. Although he caught four passes for 76 yards — all in the first half — he also hurt his team with a poor decision on a punt return as well as a fumble at the goal line. In the second quarter, Bryant caught a Tony Romo pass and appeared poised to take it in for a 36-yard touchdown. However, Earl Thomas made a diving swipe at his ankle, causing Bryant to fall forward into Richard Sherman, whose jarring tackle knocked the ball loose at the goal line. The fumble was recovered by Seattle's Roy Lewis. "Whenever I got tripped up, my body was loose, and the guy came down and he made a good play," Bryant said. "I just couldn't believe that I fumbled. But"
Cowboys don't view Bryant as disruptive
"Jason Garrett and Tony Romo said Thursday they do not view Dez Bryant's emotional sideline behavior as disruptive. Bryant's animated conversations and helmet flinging have been captured by TV cameras, prompting one Cowboys legend to express concern for the second-year pro. "The kid has to settle down," Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Renfro told the San Antonio Express-News. "He's too hyper. He needs to settle down and smooth things out or he won't last long. He will burn himself out." But Garrett and Romo said they have no problems with Bryant."
Ex-Cowboy Troy Aikman sees a lot of Michael Irvin's personality in Dez Bryant
"Former Cowboys quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman joined the Musers on KTCK-AM Thursday morning. Here are some highlights: On what to make of the Cowboys after their blowout loss to the Eagles: I still contend they're a good team. I think we all react from one week to the next about all the teams in the league. It wasn't but a couple of weeks ago we were writing off the Philadelphia Eagles, and now everybody's anointing them divisional champs. And I do think they're going to be there at the end. But I think it was one of those games that just happen sometimes. It happened to New Orleans, for instance, this last week against the Rams. I still believe they're a good team."
Romo defends Bryant's passion to play the game
"Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo defended receiver Dez Bryant when asked about his sideline antics in the 34-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Bryant was seen throwing his helmet during an apparent rant. Romo said he had no problem with Bryant's emotions. "Dez is great," Romo said. "His emotion, there is never a negative emotion that comes from it. It's just positive consistently. He's just a kid who loves playing the game. He's passionate. But there is never any malice or anything negative involved. Cameras can catch whatever they want; he is never mean to another person or anything like that. He just wants to win and he's excited about being out there playing. We're"
Dez Bryant among players giving Cowboys the Michael Vick look at practice
"There is only one Michael Vick. Yet every opponent on Philadelphia's schedule gropes to find someone who can simulate him in practice. The Cowboys used three players: Jon Kitna, Stephen McGee and receiver Dez Bryant. "Well, he's not Michael Vick,'' head coach Jason Garrett said of Bryant. "Michael Vick is Michael Vick. "Dez gave us some looks back there where he was moving around and really making it hard on our defensive guys to keep him in the pocket. I thought the look was pretty good. He's a lefty and him out in space, whipping the ball around..."
Dez impersonates Vick to help defense adjust
"The Dallas Cowboys have only one player who can provide their defense with a good impersonation of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. So Dez Bryant is getting some work on the scout team this week. "He gave us a good look," outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. "He was fast. I was in front of him, and I made the tackle." Bryant is left-handed, like Vick. He is fast, like Vick. He can throw the ball a mile, like Vick. "He can throw the ball 60 yards, and it looks like it's on a frozen rope like Vick's is too, with that lefty spin," Cowboys inside linebacker Sean Lee said. "...[Bryant's imitation] was dead on. The way he runs. The way he moves. Their play-making ability.""
Despite injury scare Thursday, Dez Bryant still returning punts for Cowboys
"Starting receiver Dez Bryant's returning punts -- whether it's a smart move -- has been a subject of much debate. An injury scare at Thursday's practice will only strengthen the argument for keeping him off special teams. Early in practice, Bryant was back for a punt when he appeared to injure his right foot. He went to the ground, took off his shoe and grabbed his foot in pain before waving off an athletic trainer. Bryant was OK, jogging to a passing drill after the incident."
Starting WR Dez Bryant back to returning punts for Cowboys
"All indications are that Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has taken over punt return duties full-time again. Bryant was back for all five St. Louis punts Sunday. Bryant signaled for a fair catch on two of the punts, one went for a touchback, one was downed at the 2-yard line and Bryant's one return went for seven yards. Bryant hadn't returned a punt for the Cowboys before Sunday since the first quarter of the team's season opener Sept. 11 at the New York Jets. That's because Bryant suffered a deep thigh bruise on his first-quarter punt return against the Jets that has plagued him ever since. Now fully healed, Bryant is back in the punt return role going forward."
Romo: Coverages keep me from finding Bryant
"Tony Romo takes a quick, one-step drop and then lofts the ball into the end zone, where Dez Bryant snatches it away from an overmatched defender. It's a scenario fans of the Dallas Cowboys want to see come true, but Romo told reporters Thursday in Irving it's just not that easy when foes continue to double Bryant inside the red zone. "When it's one-on-one, (throwing the fade to Bryant) is what we're going to do," Romo said. "When they have a safety and they get two guys, it's not a good matchup." The lack of a consistent Romo-to-Bryant connection is a hot topic as the Cowboys (2-3) prepare to host the St. Louis Rams (0-5) Sunday. Bryant has caught only two passes after halftime this season"
Disappearing Dez: Garrett, Romo, WR coach provide some answers
"In three of the four games Dez Bryant has played this year, he has failed to make a reception in the second half. Inquiring minds want to know why, and the Cowboys have provided some answers. Garrett said his lack of production after halftime can be attributed to the fact that he was hampered by a bruised quadriceps he suffered in the season opener. Romo explained that circumstance and coverages have forced him to seek out targets other than Bryant in the final two quarters. Owner Jerry Jones implied that Bryant's concentration has waned in the late stages of games. And wide receivers coach Jimmy Robinson just wanted to make it clear Thursday that the Cowboys aren't plotting behind closed"
Many happy returns: Dez Bryant back on punt returns
"Three players have returned punts for the Cowboys this season. Dez Bryant is the only one still on the roster after Tuesday's release of rookie Dwayne Harris. The last punt Bryant returned came in the season opener when he bruised his quadriceps. "We feel like he's a dynamic returner; at the same time, he's our starting X receiver, so you've got to be selective how you use those guys in the return game," head coach Jason Garrett said. "He has to continue to catch punts and even catch some kickoffs as well."
Tony Romo doesn't have full trust in Dez Bryant
"On whether blame for the loss to the Patriots should fall on Tony Romo or Jason Garrett: Romo did a good job managing the game and what the game plan was. I think the criticism is obviously going to come to Jason Garrett. I really think he should've opened it up a little bit more. I think in that situation in the game, he really wanted a couple of three-yard runs and have a third and four and pass the ball. But once Murray was hit in the mouth and his teeth were knocked into the back of his throat on those two runs and you have a third and long, at that point, you just don't want to make a mistake."
Jerry Jones on Dez Bryant disappearing in second half of games: 'Dez needs to concentrate'
"For the third time in his four games this season Sunday at New England, Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant didn't catch a pass in the second half of a game. And the Cowboys only targeted Bryant twice after halftime Sunday (once on the desperation final pass by Tony Romo to end the game). Jerry Jones was asked Tuesday morning on his radio show on 105.3 FM why has Bryant disappeared in the second half of games this season. "I think that has kind of just happened. It certainly is not a deliberate thing," Jones said. "It can be because the defense maybe has something to do with it."
Dez Bryant-Devin McCourty a select matchup
"Day 1 of the 2010 NFL draft had Patriots fans scratching their collective heads, not to mention letting out more than a few moans and groans. Where was the pass rusher? And if not a disruptive player in that mold, how about Dez Bryant? A big-play, stretch-the-field, speed receiver who the Pats had in for a pre-draft visit? Bryant was available when the time came for the Patriots to make their selection at No.???22. But as history will show, Bill Belichick traded that pick to Denver in exchange for the No.???24 pick and a fourth-round choice (113th overall), the latter of which he used on tight end Aaron Hernandez."
Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant: 'I'll be 100 percent next week'
"Dez Bryant yelled across the locker room at Valley Ranch on Wednesday, alerting everyone who was in his vicinity. "I'll be 100 percent next week," Bryant said after the team's light practice. Bryant, who said he is around 85 percent healthy at the moment, is still recovering from the deep thigh bruise he suffered in the season opener against the New York Jets. This weekend, he will have a chance to rest because the Cowboys don't play a game until Oct. 16, when they travel to Foxboro, Mass., to face the Patriots."
Dez Bryant's conditioning a concern
"The thigh bruise that has lingered since the season opener has taken a lot of air out of Dez Bryant. Especially in the second half of games. Bryant could barely run during the second half of the season opener because of the thigh bruise. After sitting out Week 2, he's been able to play the last two games, but conditioning is a concern, especially late in games. "It is, because he hasn't been able to practice and he really hasn't been able to run," coach Jason Garrett said. "Our training staff has done a great job trying to get as much work with him as possible without taking any backward steps on the thigh bruise, but that's definitely a factor."
Why did Cowboys WR Dez Bryant disappear in the second half again?
"When Dez Bryant made a six-yard touchdown reception with 10 minutes, 58 seconds left in the first quarter, he appeared to be on his way to piecing together a memorable performance. At that point, he had had already accounted for three catches, 37 yards and two touchdowns. But Bryant's stat line wouldn't change from that point forward. The Cowboys' second-year receiver, who was listed as questionable Sunday because of a deep thigh bruise he suffered Sept. 11, disappeared in the second half just as he did in Dallas' season opener. In that game, Bryant made three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown in the opening quarter. But for the remainder of the game, he failed to record a catch."
Bryant will start for Cowboys despite lingering thigh bruise
"Dez Bryant will start for the Cowboys in their Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions, according to NFL.com's Steve Wyche. The wide receiver has been slowed since Week 1 with a deep thigh bruise. Bryant participated in the team's walkthrough practice Saturday and had been listed as questionable."
Dez Bryant questionable for Sunday
"Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant participated in Saturday's walk-through practice and is a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions with a bruised thigh. Bryant, who missed practice on Thursday and Friday, is listed as questionable on the injury report. He continues to get treatment for the injury suffered while returning a punt in Week 1 against the New York Jets. Bryant has undergone extensive treatment to keep the swelling down so the leg can loosen up."
