Derrick Favors News & Rumors

Jazz's Hayward, Favors won't play in summer league
"Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors will not participate on the Utah Jazz team in the Orlando Summer League, general manager Kevin O'Connor said Monday. Hayward and Favors are members of the USA Men's Select Team, which will train July 5-11 in Las Vegas and practice against the London-bound United States' Olympic team. The Orlando Summer League is scheduled July 9-13. "It's a great honor for our guys -- a privilege," O'Connor said. "They need to go do that. It will be great experience for them." Thirteen players were picked for the U.S. Select Team. The Jazz and San Antonio Spurs were the only NBA teams to place more than one player on the 13-man roster."
Utah Jazz's Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward officially named to USA Men's Select Team
"USA Basketball today announced that Utah Jazz forward/center Derrick Favors and forward Gordon Hayward were among 13 players chosen for the 2012 USA Men's Select Team that will train against the 2012 USA Basketball Men's National Team during its July 6-12 training camp in Las Vegas. The Jazz and San Antonio Spurs were the only two teams with multiple players selected. Favors (6-10, 248, Georgia Tech) played in 65 games (nine starts) during his first full season in Utah, averaging 8.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 block in 21.2 minutes per game. Hayward (6-8, 210, Butler) was one of two Jazz players to appear in all 66 games (58 starts) in 2011-12, averaging 11.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1"
Jazz: Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward join Select team
"Before LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Team USA take on the world this summer, they'll have to deal with a couple of Utah Jazz players. Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward have been chosen to participate on the prestigious 2012 USA Select team, which will play against and help prepare the U.S. men's basketball team ahead of the Summer Olympics in London. The young Jazz players will join 11 other NBA up-and-comers for the training competition, according to a CSN Bay Area report."
Derrick Favors is Jazz's best hope moving into big offseason
"When Derrick Favors first joined the Jazz, his voice was whisper-soft and his future was as uncertain as Utah's. The No. 3 overall pick during the 2010 draft was a secondary piece in the blockbuster Deron Williams trade, known more in the NBA for Carmelo Anthony trade rumors than the talent that once made him the top high-school prospect in the country. Less than 15 months have passed since Favors put on a Utah uniform. But after a strong second season and at times dominant four-game run during the Jazz's first-round playoff loss to San Antonio, the most certain thing about Utah's unpredictable future is Favors' awesome potential."
Derrick Favors plays well in increased minutes
"Derrick Favors got his minutes Saturday night. But it didn't make any difference in the outcome as the Jazz were beaten by San Antonio for the third time in three playoff games. After Favors played just 47 minutes total in the first two playoff games, during which time the Jazz actually outscored the Spurs, a lot of armchair quarterbacks wondered why he wasn't playing more. Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin shrugged off the criticism, saying, "We'll see — at times it's good for us and at times it's not," about using Favors with Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap at the same time. Saturday Corbin increased Favors' minutes, leaving him on the floor for the last 16 minutes of each half as he played 31:45"
Big 3 of Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors terrorizing opponents
"On April 2, the Utah Jazz were struggling and stumbling. They'd lost three in a row and appeared to be headed to a fourth straight setback, trailing the then-healthy-for-them Portland Trail Blazers by 14 points in the first half at the Rose Garden. Another defeat — which happened far more often than not on the road this season — could've been devastating. Desperate for something to happen, coach Tyrone Corbin reached up his sleeve for a trick. He pulled out the Big Three. Not LeBron's crew, the Spurs' three amigos nor Larry, Curly and Moe. It was the Jazz's Big Three of 6-10 Al Jefferson, 6-10 Derrick Favors and 6-8 Paul Millsap."
On defense, Favors has his way with Magic guards
"Derrick Favors didn't let down his guard until after Utah's 117-107 overtime conquest of the Orlando Magic was complete. When he did, it wasn't to an Orlando defender, his coach Tyrone Corbin, or any of his family waiting for him after Utah moved one step closer to the postseason. It was to Al Jefferson, as the two passed in the Jazz locker room. "He told me how tired he was after having to chase all of those guards on Orlando's team," Jefferson said. For Favors, the fatigue was well earned. The second-year power forward was integral in Utah's rally and win over the Magic. The 16 points, the 11 rebounds, the highlight-worthy dunks and the blocked shots were all well noted. But it was his"
Monson: Ten things you need to know about Derrick Favors
"There are things everyone should know about Derrick Favors, the player — more than any other — seen as the key to the Jazz's promising future. He's been here a year, but it seems nobody knows anything about the young cornerstone, other than that he's immensely talented and he doesn't get enough time on the floor. Well … here are 10 more things: 1. He badly wants the extra minutes he's not getting. This was particularly frustrating for him at the beginning of the season, after he pronounced that he could be a 20-10 guy — if he got the time. But rarely have those major minutes been given him by Tyrone Corbin. The second-year forward is averaging 21 minutes a game, enough for 8.7 points and"
Derrick Favors comes of age in OT win
"According to society, Derrick Favors hasn't yet reached the so-called legal age. But forget all the things the 20-year-old is not able to do because of his age — renting cars, buying or drinking adult beverages, entering night clubs, running for Congress or president and, well, almost everything in Sin City. On Saturday night, Favors showed he's reached the age of domination. Favors, as teammate C.J. Miles tweeted after the game, was "the man" on this night. No I.D. check necessary. In Al Jefferson's absence, Favors had the game of his young NBA career, scoring 23 points and grabbing 17 rebounds to lead the Utah Jazz to a 99-92 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors at"
Derrick Favors' career night sparks Utah Jazz's OT win
"With Utah Jazz starting center Al Jefferson away attending to the funeral of his grandmother, the spotlight on Saturday focused on young Derrick Favors. Moments before the game against visiting Golden State, Utah coach Ty Corbin expressed a wish that Favors would cherish this rare opportunity as a starter. The 20-year-old did that and more. In a career effort, Favors scored 23 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and helped the Jazz (22-22) dominate the glass in a 99-92 overtime victory in EnergySolutions Arena. Favors' three-point play tied the game near the end of regulation. Then the 6-foot-10 post scored the first two baskets of overtime to spark a 6-0 Utah run. "He's been waiting for the"
Favors plays big in post for Utah
"Derrick Favors with a power slam. With a block. With a layup, reverse dunk and … another power slam. D-Fav was in fine form Wednesday in the Jazz's 99-93 win against the Bobcats. Fourteen points on 7-of-10 shooting, seven rebounds (four of them on offense) two blocks and a steal. All in just 17 minutes, 53 seconds, in a night when he was Utah's second-leading rebounder and third-leading scorer. "It's just getting into a groove," Favors said. "Every opportunity I get, just try to be aggressive, try to score and just make the right play.""
Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors help win Rising Stars Challenge
"The Utah Jazz slumped heading into the All-Star break, but two of the team's young stars found victory in the first event at Orlando's All-Star Weekend. As members of Team Chuck in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, Utah second-year players Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward were part of a 146-133 winning effort over Team Shaq. Both Favors and Hayward were pivotal off the bench, chipping in 14 points apiece. The duo shot a combined 10-of-13 from the field, but more than any individual numbers, enjoyed playing with each other on the elevated stage. "It was fun," said Favors on playing with his Jazz teammate. "He obviously knows how I play. I know how he plays. We just went out there and looked"
Jazz: Favors to join Hayward in Rising Stars game
"Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors has been added to the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge that will take place on Friday in Orlando during NBA All-Star 2012. Favors will join teammate Gordon Hayward on Team Chuck. The two will be Utah's first participants in the event since Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap played for the sophomore team during the 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. A 2010 first-round draft pick (third overall) out of Georgia Tech, Favors is currently averaging 8.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game this season. The 6-10, 246-pound forward has scored in double figures nine times this season, grabbed 10 or more rebounds four times, and registered a"
Utah's Favors, Kanter learning how to control paint together
"Raja Bell compared it to an NHL team. A few Jazz players go out, a few more come in. The action never stops, and Utah's opponent never gets a breather. That's what happened to Memphis on Sunday during the Jazz's pivotal 98-88 road win, which tipped off a back-to-back-to-back away series. Grizzlies center Marc Gasol became worn out, Utah center Al Jefferson said, and Memphis rarely found a rhythm. With key Jazz athletes such as Bell and Jefferson allowed to recharge on the bench and watch their team maintain a strong lead, it was up to reserves such as Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter to keep Utah's momentum alive."
Derrick Favors' play still evolving
"The rhythm and touch are not consistently fluid. His best offensive moves suddenly appear, draw raves, then just as quickly evaporate. But make no mistake: Jazz forward Derrick Favors is feeling more confident than ever with the ball in his hands, and the 20-year-old's on-the-court evolution is on schedule. "It's just me being comfortable out there and sort of picking my spots. When and where to score, and just knowing when I'm going to get my shots in the offense," Favors said. The No. 3 overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft entered the game Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers averaging 7.8 points and 5.9 rebounds, while shooting 47.6 percent from the field during his second season."
NBA slaps Favors with $25,000 fine
"Derrick Favors is learning the hard way that some actions in the NBA have costly consequences. The second-year Utah Jazz player was ejected late in the third quarter of Thursday's 94-91 loss against Dallas after he threw a basketball. On Saturday, the NBA threw a $25,000 fine right back at Favors for the incident. In a statement, Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations, announced the hefty penalty, which accompanies "throwing a ball into the spectator stands." Whether that actually happened remains the question. A TV replay at NBA.com showed the ball was flung by Favors in an underhand motion toward the tunnel and the end of the Dallas bench. The ball"
Derrick Favors fined $25K for throwing ball into stands vs. Mavs
"Jazz forward Derrick Favors has been fined $25,000 for throwing the basketball into the stands during Thursday night's 94-91 loss to Dallas. NBA vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson announced the fine Saturday afternoon. Before Utah's game against Minnesota, Favors said he was surprised by the fine and will appeal. "Me and my agent, we are going to try to do it Monday," he said. Favors was ejected with 24.8 seconds left after he was called for his second offensive foul on back-to-back possessions. He underhanded the basketball across the court, in the general direction of the Dallas bench. Replays show the ball flew over the head of a ballboy sitting along the baseline. It"
Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter living up to NBA's 'Big Things Are Coming' theme
"Early in training camp, Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin witnessed an example of the competitive nature that burns inside a couple of his youngest and biggest players. It was a sneak peek into what he could expect from Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter this season. The Jazz were running a routine drill in which the ball is thrown off the backboard, the rebounder makes an outlet pass and a fast break play is executed. Only problem? Favors and Kanter both wanted the basketball in their hands. Glass. Crash. Clash. "They were fighting each other just for the rebound to get out into transition," Corbin said, smiling about the good problem. "I was excited about it from that day." The second-year coach"
Al Jefferson says Derrick Favors 'set the tone' in win
"Big Al Jefferson put together another solid all-around performance in Utah's 85-73 victory over Milwaukee on Tuesday night, as the 6-foot-10 center finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and a couple of blocked shots. But instead of pounding his chest for a job well done, the Jazz big man was quick to give credit for the victory to another of his front-line teammates, Derrick Favors. "Derrick Favors was the one who set the tone in the first half with those blocked shots — I think he had like five in like three minutes," Jefferson said with admiration. "He set the tone and everybody started getting active. That's what we've got do to win games, at home or on the road."
Derrick Favors ends up starting thanks to Al Jefferson's ankle trouble
"Derrick Favors' new reserve role didn't last very long. Hours after it was announced that Paul Millsap would replace him in the starting lineup, the second-year big man was reinserted back into the first five for Friday's home opener. This time, though, he was the Jazz's starting center. An injury to Al Jefferson forced Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin to make the late change. Big Al was scratched from the game an hour before tipoff because of an inflamed right ankle. Jefferson's ankle started swelling up Thursday. The injury, he explained, dates back to 2006 when he had surgery for a bone bruise, leading to him getting painful arthritis in the joint. Jefferson stopped taking medicine for it after"
Jazz give their fans big 'Favors' in a win
"Al Jefferson couldn't play Friday night for the first time since he joined the Utah Jazz over a year ago, and the usual starting center had a message for his replacement. Moments before the Jazz's home-opener tipped off, Big Al, unable to go because of an inflamed right ankle, told Derrick Favors, "You just got to hold it down for me." Consider it held down. Favors' career-high 20 points, 11 rebounds and strong defensive effort helped spark the Jazz, who regrouped from two early blowouts and Jefferson's absence to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 102-99 at EnergySolutions Arena. "He looked me dead in my eyes and said, 'I'm going to hold it down for you,'" Jefferson said. "And that's exactly"
Derrick Favors shows Utah Jazz he's ready to play
"Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin broke the news before training camp even started. Already numb to questions about Utah's starting five, Corbin offered a speculative what-if response about power forward Derrick Favors as proof everything would be up for grabs in Jazzland during 2011-12. "He may come into camp and blow our minds away," Corbin said. The words were issued Dec. 8. Eleven days later, Favors did just that. The broad-shouldered big man was the only player on Utah's roster Monday during a 110-90 blowout preseason road loss to Portland who appeared prepared to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 27."
Greatness calls Derrick Favors' name
"Derrick Favors answered with startling confidence and candor a question the other day about whether he could have a breakout season for the Jazz this year. Decide for yourselves whether his response exudes common cockiness or uncommon compliance: "If coach wants me to be a star, that's what I'll be." Asked if he could score 20 points and haul 10 rebounds every night, he said: "Of course, if they give me the minutes. It's up to them." It's up to … them? Now there's a switch. So far, everything about the 20-year-old's basketball life has been up to … him. Since entering high school, he's had both a basketball and the world in his hands, at his feet. Still does, more than ever."
Favors muscles up during NBA lockout
"Just before the NBA locked its doors July 1, the Jazz made a last-minute trip to Atlanta to check in on a special assignment. Utah power forward Derrick Favors did all the right things toward the end of the 2010-11 season, averaging 9.6 points and 6.7 rebounds during April as he began to deliver on the promise of being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The Atlanta native also said all the right things during his April 14 exit interview, assuring Utah coach Tyrone Corbin and general manager Kevin O' Connor that no matter how long the league's work stoppage dragged on, he'd be primed and ready to go as soon as he received a call informing him that it was safe to return to the"
Jazz pick up options on C.J. Miles, Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward
"The Utah Jazz announced Wednesday that the team has elected to exercise its fourth-year team option on guard/forward C.J. Miles' contract for the 2011-12 season, as well as the rookie contract options for forwards Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward for the 2012-13 season. Miles, a six-year NBA veteran, appeared in 78 games (19 starts) for the Jazz in 2010-11, which he was used primarily as a sixth man off the bench. The 6-foot-6 swingman averaged career-highs in points (12.8), rebounds (3.3), assists (1.7) and minutes played (25.2) last season and improved in all four categories for the fourth straight year, although his field goal percentage (40.7) and 3-point shooting percentage (32.2)"
Utah Jazz's Derrick Favors earns NBA All-Rookie honors
"Jazz forward Derrick Favors was named Wednesday to the 2010-11 NBA All-Rookie second team, receiving 18 points and one first-team recommendation. Utah forward Gordon Hayward received seven points but was not selected to either team. Voting was conducted by all 30 league coaches. Favors, 19, averaged 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks while shooting 51.7 percent from the field in 78 games (27 starts) this season with the Jazz and New Jersey. The third overall selection in the 2010 NBA Draft out of Georgia Tech was shadowed by trade rumors during his time with the Nets. But Favors finished the season strong with Utah, averaging 9.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 24.4 minutes"
Favors named to second-team All-Rookie squad
"The Utah Jazz and their fans aren't the only ones who think the team has some good, young talent. The league's coaches honored forward Derrick Favors with a spot on the NBA's All-Rookie second team. And while he didn't make either the first or second squad, Jazz rookie Gordon Hayward received the 14th-most votes among first-year players. The 19-year-old Favors received 18 points (two points per first-team vote, one for second-team votes) after showing glimpses of greatness as the youngest player in the NBA. The 6-foot-10, 246-pounder averaged 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in his first season with New Jersey and Utah. Favors, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft, became the eighth"
Favors selected to NBA All-Rookie second team
"Jazz power forward Derrick Favors was named Wednesday to the 2010-11 NBA All-Rookie second team, receiving 18 points and one first-team recommendation in voting that was conducted by league coaches. Utah small forward Gordon Hayward received seven points but was not selected to either team. But Favors finished the season strong with Utah, recording double digits in scoring in four of his final"
Big Al Jefferson says he can learn from the young guy Derrick Favors
"Al Jefferson has been in the NBA for seven seasons, so it stands to reason he'd have tricks of the trade to pass along to a teenager like Derrick Favors. But Big Al smiled after Saturday's game and hinted that the teacher might need to pay attention to the student in this case. What the big (young) man did during the Utah Jazz's loss to the Spurs — a career-best 17 points and five rebounds — was not lost on Jefferson or anybody else who watched how Favors competitively played against the NBA championship contenders. "I'm talking about teaching him some stuff," Jefferson said. "I might need to learn some stuff from him." When told at practice Sunday how Jefferson said he might need a few"
Jazz rookies run with starters' minutes
"Gordon Hayward, Jeremy Evans and Derrick Favors worked all season for the time that they received Monday. The Jazz rookies all played full 12-minute quarters during the final period of regulation in Utah's 100-95 overtime home loss to Washington. Hayward and Favors went on to record all five minutes in OT, while Evans earned 1:55. The 2010 NBA draft picks clocked a total of 82:26, at times playing better than their starting counterparts and leading the Jazz to a temporary two-point lead late in the fourth-quarter after trailing by 10 at the start of the period. "We were all just out there competing, trying to bring energy, playing hard," said Hayward, who scored 12 points, grabbed four"
Already without Harris and Favors, Jazz lose Kirilenko to bruised peroneal nerve
"Maybe the Utah Jazz's medical staff should simply put the hobbled and hampered team's entire 2010-11 season on the injury report. It's limping and wounded enough to merit the designation. Playing their umpteenth game at less than full strength because of health issues, the Jazz's season and playoff hopes became even more strained Wednesday night with a 106-94 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. "They're full speed and they've got most of their guys," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said of the Northwest Division-leading Thunder. "We're fighting an uphill battle with injuries, but the effort, again, was there." But for the third straight time on this winless road trip, a debilitating defeat was"
Derrick Favors, Devin Harris up in air for tonight
"Tyrone Corbin might not have to make a decision on which player to place on the inactive list tonight. Unless his strained right hamstring heals quicker than expected, starting point guard Devin Harris admitted after Monday's game that he is not expecting to play when the Jazz visit the Oklahoma City Thunder. Rookie forward Derrick Favors' availability is also up in the air because of his sprained left ankle, which forced him out in the third quarter of the Jazz's devastating 103-85 loss at Memphis. Both players are listed as day-to-day by the team's medical staff. Depending on their availability, veteran center Francisco Elson might actually dress for action after sitting out the past two"
Harris, Favors hurt in Memphis
"The Jazz's playoff aspirations were already shaky when Utah tipped off against the Grizzlies on Monday night. But when the Jazz lost starting point guard Devin Harris just 3 minutes, 1 second into the contest due to a strained right hamstring, the team's postseason hopes — and chance against Memphis — received a major hit. Harris tweaked a hamstring that was already tender when he sank a nine-foot running jump shot at the 10:29 mark in the first period. He immediately pulled up in pain, then lightly ran the court before being forced to leave it. The veteran guard did not return, and Utah watched an early 10-4 lead turn into a 15-point deficit midway through the second quarter. Harris"
Favors continues to improve
"Little by little, Derrick Favors is growing into what is expected from the third pick of the 2011 NBA Draft. Just ask Minnesota's Darko Milicic, who was posterized by Favors' ringing slam dunk midway through the third period of Utah's victory on Wednesday. Acquired in the trade for Deron Williams, Favors, who would be a sophomore at Georgia Tech had he not entered the draft, started for the second time in as many games for Utah and played a positive role in the Jazz's solid 119-104 defeat of Minnesota in EnergySolutions Arena. On a night where C.J. Miles blew up the scoreboard for 40 points, Favors did the little things on the way to 13 points and five rebounds in 24 minutes. "I'm just"
Rookie Favors shines in blowout
"Being a bright spot in a 22-point blowout loss is not an easy task. But Jazz rookie forward Derrick Favors accomplished the feat Monday, scoring a career-high 16 points in Utah's 131-109 loss to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Favors was 6 of 11 from the field, while knocking down all four of his free throws and pulling down eight rebounds, including four offensive boards. He also fouled out with 2 minutes, 46 seconds to go as the Knicks' reserves were clocking garbage time during a heavily lopsided game. But the 19-year-old No. 3 selection of the 2010 NBA Draft continued to make a strong first impression, aggressively putting up shots and playing with a smoothness that"
Nets did him no Favors
"Derrick Favors has one question and Devin Harris has one answer regarding their recent trade from the Nets. Favors wants to know why the Nets ever drafted him in the first place, because he feels he never really was wanted. Harris has one answer to those in the Nets organization who questioned his commitment the past two seasons. "They can never touch my effort," Harris said yesterday before the Jazz played the Knicks at the Garden. "I don't get offended. [If I'd heard it before the trade] then I would have. But now what can you say? I'd say it's not important." Favors, the 19-year-old bundle of upside the Nets drafted No. 3, said there is no anger but admitted he was "real sad" at being"
Favors big addition for rival Jazz
"The future of the Nuggets is now the future of the Utah Jazz. Many NBA executives had believed Derrick Favors would end up in Denver. Instead, the New Jersey Nets rookie, the No. 3 pick in last summer's draft, was traded to Utah, where he will now battle the Nuggets in the Northwest Division for years. Of course, Denver made out in the Melo trade about as well as any team that has ever traded its top two players, midseason. But for much of the Melodrama (I promised to never type that word again, and there that thing is again), it appeared that Favors would be giving the Rocky Mountains some company. "Glad he didn't," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said with a chuckle. "He's been a dream, man - a"
No Derrick Favors, rookie sits out
"Tyrone Corbin didn't need a note from Derrick Favors' doctor to grant him an excused absence from Thursday night's game against Denver. The Utah Jazz coach only needed his eyes to tell Favors was truly under the weather. "He was going to try and go through shootaround, but you could look at him (and tell) he didn't look good at all," Corbin said. "Been there, done that before. Some guys can get through it, but this one I think he needed to shut it down for a little bit.""
Youngsters Hayward, Favors show maturity on the court
"Considering that Ty Corbin's son, Tyrell, is 18 years old, the Jazz coach admitted that it has been a bit interesting for him to play a couple of youngsters who are only a bit older than the West High School standout. Be forewarned that this might make you feel older, but Derrick Favors — the NBA's youngest player — is still a teenager, and Gordon Hayward isn't yet legal. Combined, they're two years younger than John Stockton was when he retired at age 41. "They're talented guys. They grew up really fast and they've been around the game forever," Corbin said. "They've played a lot of basketball, and to their credit they're ready for it." Corbin didn't hesitate to keep them in the game"
Jazz brass like character of Devin Harris, Derrick Favors
"Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor revealed Monday that the team did an extensive background check on both Devin Harris and Derrick Favors before trading for them last week. It was worth their time to dig into Favors' history in Atlanta — where the 19-year-old grew up and played one year at Georgia Tech — and to evaluate Harris' cheesehead history back to his youth in Wisconsin. In doing their due diligence before pulling off the most surprising deal in franchise history — a shocking swap that sent the team's star, Deron Williams, to New Jersey — the Jazz discovered they were getting solid players and characters. "The people that they are, are terrific," O'Connor said. "And I think that"
Harris, Favors introduced to local media
"In her tender and sincere way, Jazz owner Gail Miller welcomed Devin Harris and Derrick Favors to Utah during a press conference following the team's prep session for tonight's game against the Boston Celtics. "We're excited to have you here," Miller said. "And hope that you enjoy mingling with the community and with the team and with all of the management, and that you feel comfortable." Turns out, mingling with the community was an interesting and fitting phrase. As nice as Miller's comments were — and as warm as Jazz president Randy Rigby and general manager Kevin O'Connor were in their brief remarks — Harris' most memorable welcoming and mingling moment came on his first day in Utah."
Devin Harris, Derrick Favors ready for home debut
"Playing their first home game in 12 days, the Utah Jazz will get an opportunity tonight to show their fans the souvenirs they picked up on their recent road trip. The guy wearing No. 5, Jazz fans will quickly notice, is not Carlos Boozer. This new No. 5 is Devin Harris, a slight-of-frame-but-speedy 6-foot-3 veteran who now happens to be Utah's starting point guard after being acquired last Wednesday. And the large, athletic player sporting No. 15 in his Utah uniform is not Matt Harpring or Sundiata Gaines. Rookie Derrick Favors did, however, play college ball in the Peach State like those two former Jazz players (one year at Harpring's alma mater, Georgia Tech, before being taken third"
Favors starts favorably
"Derrick Favors is exceeding expectations. The 19-year-old rookie power forward acquired in the Deron Williams trade recorded 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting Saturday during the Jazz's 120-116 road loss to the Detroit Pistons. Favors is averaging 8 points and 2.5 rebounds in his first two games with Utah, and he has recorded at least 15 minutes during each contest. Favors' intensity, confidence and consistency are still issues. But after joining the team Wednesday surrounded by question marks, Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin has been impressed by the initial view. Corbin said that Favors is dealing with a lot: new team, new environment, heavy expectations. But the rookie has run the floor and passed"
Derrick Favors, Devin Harris meet up with new teammates
"A bit of news that came out of Thursday's Utah Jazz practice resides on the opposite end of the shocker scale from Wednesday's mind-boggling blockbuster trade with the New Jersey Nets. Don't brace yourself or bother taking a seat while reading this next part. OK, here goes the non-shocker: Veteran point guard Devin Harris and rookie big man Derrick Favors are pretty dang happy about receiving new leases on their NBA lives. Joining the Jazz organization and being freed from the Nets can have that affect. "It's an exciting opportunity," Harris said. "It's a new beginning for me," Favors added. Both players — who ended up with Utah along with future first-round picks in a stunning deal that"
Harris, Favors eager for new start
"Devin Harris and Derrick Favors joined the Jazz together. And the former New Jersey Nets duo are receiving an equal-opportunity do-over with Utah. After being traded for All-Star guard Deron Williams on Wednesday, Harris and Favors connected with the Jazz on Thursday, practicing with the team at Butler University. Favors was eager to leave behind a rookie season that had been drowned out by trade rumors, as his name was connected for months with the New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony. Harris was happy just to get a new start. The 2009 All-Star point guard acknowledged that he had become invisible in New Jersey, playing for a team that posted only 12 wins in 2009-10 and was enduring another"
Jazz add former lottery picks in Harris, Favors
"When the New Jersey Nets visited Utah in November, coach Avery Johnson praised rookie Derrick Favors as a player with cornerstone-type potential. The Jazz certainly hope so. Utah acquired Favors in Wednesday's blockbuster Deron Williams trade with New Jersey. Although the Jazz also received Devin Harris, two future first-round draft picks and $3 million in cash, they likely pulled the trigger because of New Jersey's willingness to include Favors. The No. 3 pick in last summer's draft, Favors is a 6-foot-10, 246-pound power forward who averaged 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 56 games this season. He turns 20 in July. "He's solid - still learning, high basketball IQ," Johnson said three"
Derrick Favors, Devin Harris bring glossy resumes to Jazz
"So, who are these guys? Point guard Devin Harris and rookie forward Derrick Favors, acquired by the Utah Jazz in Wednesday's trade with the New Jersey Nets for Deron WIlliams, bring impressive resumes to Salt Lake City. Both were high NBA Draft picks. "Devin Harris is a quality player," said Jazz coach Ty Corbin. "Derrick Favors is a great young guy in this league, and he has a chance to make us better." Harris, a 6-foot-3, 191-pound point guard, is a six-year veteran out of Wisconsin. The 27-year-old (who turns 28 on Feb. 27) has started 54 games for New Jersey this season, averaging 15 points and 7.6 assists, while logging 31.9 minutes per game. He was the fifth overall pick by the"
Deron Williams deal with Nets was 'our best option'
"As far as Jazz CEO Greg Miller and general manager Kevin O'Connor are concerned, the time was right to trade their best player, all-star point guard Deron Williams. Williams was traded Wednesday, the day before the NBA trade deadline, to New Jersey for guard Devin Harris, rookie forward Derrick Favors, a pair of draft choices and money. The trade came days after a report that Williams told associates he wanted to play for New York after his current contract was up and two weeks after Utah coach Jerry Sloan resigned, reportedly in part because of conflicts with Williams. "Nobody likes to lose a marquee player, but given all of the uncertainty about our ability to get a deal done with Deron"
Nets land Deron Williams from Jazz in surprise trade
"On Monday night, the Nets got the crushing news that their all-out bid to get Carmelo Anthony had failed, and the Denver Nuggets had decided to trade Anthony to the rival Knicks. Today, the Nets rebounded in the biggest way imaginable. In a stunning move that caught most of the league by surprise, the Nets acquired All-Star point guard Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz, trading point guard Devin Harris and rookie power forward Derrick Favors, plus two first-round draft picks and cash, believed to be $3 million. Acquiring Williams, who has averaged 21.3 points and 9.7 assists for the Jazz this season, gives the Nets the legitimate NBA star the franchise has been seeking since Jason Kidd was"
