McFadden, Ford, Henderson and Huff out for Saturday's game
December 24
San Francisco Chronicle
"
Running back Darren McFadden (foot), receiver Jacoby Ford (foot), defensive tackle John Henderson (knee) and safety Michael Huff (hamstring) have all been ruled out for Saturday's game at Kansas City. McFadden will now have missed eight games. He did see some doctors this week for tests to see if he could possibly return for Week 17 or the playoffs. Ford will miss his sixth straight game.

Darren McFadden expected to miss Chiefs game
December 23
Oakland Tribune
"
Running back Darren McFadden hasn't given up hope of returning this season from a right midfoot sprain, though time is running out. Coach Hue Jackson on Thursday said "it doesn't look great" for McFadden playing against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. Therefore, it's likely that McFadden will miss his eighth straight game. The Raiders final regular-season game is against the San Diego Chargers on Jan. 1. An ESPN report Thursday, citing an unnamed league source, said McFadden met with Dr. Robert Anderson last week and underwent numerous tests in an attempt to gauge whether he can play again this season. Dr. Anderson reportedly told McFadden that his foot is not healed all the way, and

So, what's afoot with Raiders' Darren McFadden?
December 21
San Francisco Chronicle
"
The Raiders were 4-2 when Darren McFadden was healthy, and as good as replacement Michael Bush has been at times, they are 3-5 since McFadden got hurt on the second play of the game against Kansas City on Oct. 23. McFadden was averaging 5.4 yards per carry and not only kept opposing defenses honest (and scared), but also kept Oakland's 27th-ranked defense off the field.

McFadden jogs at practice
December 21
San Francisco Chronicle
"
How about that for a headline? Running back Darren McFadden didn't practice Tuesday but he was on the side jogging with trainers after being out 57 days with a mid-foot sprain. Receiver Jacoby Ford (foot) was also in that group. He has missed five games. Making his return to practice was rookie running back Taiwan Jones, who has been out since the Minnesota game on Nov. 20.
"
Foot injury likely to sideline Raiders' McFadden for rest of 2011
December 18
NFL.com
"
While Oakland Raiders coach Hue Jackson made it clear this week that running back Darren McFadden will not need surgery on his injured foot, it is unlikely McFadden will play again this season, according to team sources. McFadden has been sideline for the Raiders' last six game -- unable to practice -- and his chronic foot condition remains a concern. Even if the Raiders reached the postseason McFadden would have difficulty making it back, I'm told.
"
Jackson says McFadden does not need surgery
December 13
Oakland Tribune
"
Raiders coach Hue Jackson said you can call running back Darren McFadden's right foot injury a midfoot sprain, a Lisfranc injury or whatever else you want, but he is certain that McFadden "does not need surgery." Jackson also said that he still doesn't have any idea when McFadden will be cleared to return to action. He is confident that McFadden won't be out for the rest of the season. Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was placed on injured reserve last last month with a lisfranc injury, and he is out for the season.
"
Hue Jackson says McFadden isn't out for season
December 12
San Francisco Chronicle
"
Phil Simms said on the CBS telecast of the game that injured Oakland running back Darren McFadden has a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, and not a mid-foot sprain, and could be out for the year. Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said that there has been no change in McFadden's diagnosis. No," Jackson said. "And it's not a season-ender. I mean, that's what we said - it's a sprained foot, Lisfranc, whatever you want to call it. Basically the same thing. I think Darren will be back before the season's over. And when we get him back, we'll get him back." A Lisfranc injury affects a joint in the center of the foot, and is what ended Houston quarterback Matt Schaub's season. McFadden has not

McFadden, Ford, Moore still sidelined Wednesday
December 8
Sacramento Bee
"
Carson Palmer has yet to start a game with Darren McFadden in the backfield. Palmer said today he had heard a couple weeks ago that this would be the week McFadden returns to the field for the Raiders. That still could be the case, but McFadden did not participate in practice today and was not seen in the locker room. The injury report was pretty extensive. McFadden (foot), receivers Jacoby Ford (foot), Denarius Moore (foot) and Chaz Schilens (foot), running back Taiwan Jones (foot) and defensive tackle John Henderson (knee) did not practice.
"
Jackson confident McFadden will be back this season
December 6
Oakland Tribune
"
As preposterous as it might sound, Raiders coach Hue Jackson can't say for sure whether running back Darren McFadden will be back before the regular season ends. Of course, Jackson is confident that McFadden will be back at some point. Problem is, more than six weeks after McFadden suffered a mid-foot sprain Oct. 23, Jackson isn't any closer to offering forth a timetable for McFadden's return than he was when the injury occurred. "I don't think so," Jackson said Monday, when asked if McFadden is out for the rest of the regular season. "I think he'll be back, I really do. When that is, I don't have an answer."

McFadden making progress
November 29
Sacramento Bee
"
There really wasn't much to watch when Darren McFadden was on the field this morning. He was just walking before the media headed to the locker room for interviews. If McFadden did more, he waited until the media could not see him. But McFadden being on the field for even a light workout is a positive considering he hasn't practiced since spraining his foot Oct. 23. "I think that was huge," said Raiders coach Hue Jackson. "I think that's a step in the right direction."
"
Raiders' McFadden still is very limited with foot injury
November 25
NFL.com
"
Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden likely will miss at least a few more games while recovering from his foot injury, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. McFadden still is very limited and unable to do much. The source said playing this week is not feasible for McFadden, and in all likelihood, next week's game is not probable for his return, either. McFadden went down Oct. 23 against the Kansas City Chiefs and has missed the Raiders' past three games.
"
RB McFadden, WRs Ford and Moore not practicing
November 23
Oakland Tribune
"
As expected, running back Darren McFadden and wide receiver Jacoby Ford aren't practicing today. In a surprising development, receiver Denarius Moore is watching practice with a protective boot on his right foot. Backup running back Taiwan Jones also isn't practicing as a result of the hamstring injury he suffered Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is at practice, though he isn't participating. He is watching without the neck brace he was sporting after the neck injury he received against the Vikings. So, as of now, the Raiders projected starting lineup against the Chicago Bears on Sunday would feature Michael Bush at running back, with Louis Murphy and

Darren McFadden likely to miss his third straight game
November 17
Oakland Tribune
"
Darren McFadden watched part of practice Wednesday, standing on his own two feet. Where the Raiders' star running back is concerned, that rates as news, although it doesn't make him a likely participant Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. "I saw Darren McFadden without a boot, standing out here with his teammates today for the first time in a long time," Raiders coach Hue Jackson said. "To me, that's huge progress. I'll see our medical people to find out exactly where that is."

"Huge progress" for McFadden
November 17
San Francisco Chronicle
"
That's the word from Raiders coach Hue Jackson after practice Wednesday, saying that running back Darren McFadden (sprained foot) was on the field, watching practice with no boot. "He is making huge progress," Jackson said. McFadden has been out with three weeks with the injury, and is all but officially ruled out against the Vikings Sunday. But maybe now fans can start thinking about his return for the Nov. 27 home game against the Bears.

Have to think that McFadden and Ford out for Sunday
November 16
San Francisco Chronicle
"
Raiders running back Darren McFadden and Jacoby Ford were not at practice Monday, and seem like big longshots to come back from their sprained foot injuries in time to play Sunday in Minnesota. McFadden, who has been out three weeks now, at least had his protective walking boot off at some point Monday, Raiders coach Hue Jackson said. Jackson was asked what are the running back's chances of playing this week. "Honestly I don't know," Jackson said. "I'm going to leave that to our doctors. He is getting closer, I do know that. "I know he's working his tail off," Jackson added. "When I saw him this morning he looked good. Until we get closer later on in the week and we know exactly where he

Raiders make it official: McFadden out
November 10
Oakland Tribune
"
Running back Darren McFadden, as expected, will not play against the Chargers. Jackson made that official Wednesday afternoon just before the Raiders boarded buses for the trip to the Oakland Airport. McFadden's right foot still is in a protective boot as a result of the mid-foot sprain he suffered early on against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 23. Jackson said McFadden likely will remain in Alameda so that he can receive further treatment.
"
Darren McFadden likely out against San Diego Chargers
November 9
Oakland Tribune
"
The Raiders had a season-high 11 players out of practice Tuesday, and although it's safe to assume running back Darren McFadden won't play, a number of others will be given ample opportunity to heal to be able to play Thursday in San Diego. Coach Hue Jackson said there would be no definitive status on McFadden until Wednesday, but it has been three weeks since the Raiders' leading rusher has been on the field and he has yet to be seen working with the training staff. Areas of concern heading into Thursday night's game include the offensive line and defensive secondary.
"
No sign of McFadden at walkthrough
November 8
Oakland Tribune
"
The Raiders have already put the Denver Broncos in the rear-view mirror to the point where they are in the process of conducting a walkthrough for Thursday night's game in San Diego. During his weekly press conference, coach Hue Jackson said he didn't know if running back Darren McFadden would be a part of it. During the media window, there was no sign of McFadden. Given the limited amount of time before the next game and the fact that McFadden apparently still hasn't so much as gone out for a leisurely jog, chances are he won't face the Chargers.

McFadden will sit out against Broncos
November 5
Sacramento Bee

Running back Darren McFadden was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos with a sprained right foot. McFadden, who led the NFL in rushing before the injury, has fallen to eighth with 614 yards.' McFadden had only two carries before leaving in the first quarter of the Raiders' 28-0 loss to Kansas City on Oct. 23. Michael Bush (237 yards on 60 carries this season) will get his first start this season. With the Raiders having a game next Thursday night in San Diego, coach Hue Jackson wasn't sure if McFadden would miss more than the Sunday's game but said McFadden is "making progress." "To me, that mid-foot sprain, you just got to take it day-to-day," Jackson said. "I don't want

Raiders' RB Darren McFadden likely out Sunday
November 3
San Francisco Chronicle
"
Running back Darren McFadden was seen leaving the Raiders facility Wednesday still on crutches and with his foot in a walking boot, so his chances of playing Sunday against the Broncos seem to have gone out the window. He sprained the middle of his right foot in the first series of the Oct. 23 loss to the Chiefs. Raiders coach Hue Jackson said McFadden has made progress, but acknowledged he may hold him out against the Broncos considering Oakland plays in San Diego four days later.

McFadden suffers sprained right foot
October 25
Sacramento Bee
"
Running back Darren McFadden, who left Sunday's loss to Kansas City in the first quarter and did not return, has a mid-foot sprain, Raiders coach Hue Jackson said. "I'll know more as we go forward," Jackson said during his news conference Monday. "Obviously, we're going to have the foot looked at and make sure structurally that it's OK." McFadden, the league's leading rusher through the first six weeks, played in the first two offensive series against the Chiefs before heading to the locker room. He emerged later on the sideline with his right foot heavily taped. His absence was felt in the Raiders' 28-0 loss. McFadden has carried 113 times for 614 yards and four touchdowns and

To watch Darren McFadden run with a football is like watching a man on fire running down a street in search of a swimming pool. Don't think about getting in his way unless you want to get knocked down and burned. In his fourth season, McFadden is playing like the star the Raiders anticipated when they made him the No. 4 overall pick of the 2008 draft. He has matured into his body, and he's healthy. And now he's using a lethal combination of power, speed and determination that makes him a threat every time he touches the ball.

Raiders' Darren McFadden quickly staking a claim as an elite RB

Given a rare chance to throw the ball, Raiders running back Darren McFadden wanted to show off the arm that once made him a star quarterback in high school. Alas, his main receiver was covered. So McFadden stuck to his day job. "I just felt like it was in my best interest to go ahead and run,'' McFadden said. So McFadden ran -- and ran and ran -- shredding through the formidable New York Jets on his way to an NFL season-high 171 rushing yards Sunday. The Raiders can rest his arm for another day. For now, they're happy to have the most dangerous pair of legs in football. "He's able to get to point A to point B faster than anyone I've seen,'' Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell said after the

If Darren McFadden stays healthy? Is it even possible? The Raiders, again relevant? Yep. Could happen. We might start talking about an Al Davis team competing for the postseason again. The fans might start selling out the Coliseum again. And the conversation about the NFL's best running backs might be expanded to include a four-year veteran whose career to date has been relatively unremarkable. If not a Bay Area bust in the category of JaMarcus Russell and Alex Smith – and the latter is a functioning NFL player, at the very least – McFadden is the potential Raiders superstar that time – and the fans – seemed to forget. This is the runner-up to Heisman winner Tim Tebow in 2007, the NFL's

Darren McFadden scores twice, NY Jets defense gashed in 34-24 road loss to Raiders
September 26
New York Daily News

The culprits were all over the field, missing tackles and getting juked by speedy playmakers from start to finish. A week after the Jets' suffocating defensive performance against the Jaguars grabbed headlines, the backbone of Rex Ryan's team was carved up in a 34-24 loss to the Raiders Sunday. Gang Green's defensive implosion was historic. The Jets gave up the most rushing yards (234) in 41 games under Ryan, getting gouged for one big play after another en route to their first loss of the season. "I've never had that happen in my life," said Ryan, whose team faces consecutive road tests in Baltimore and Foxborough in the next two weeks. "But it just happened."

McFadden has groin injury, Huff a concussion, Johnson a hamstring

Raiders coach Hue Jackson just revealed that star running back Darren McFadden left the game late in the fourth quarter with a groin injury. Jackson didn't provide a timetable for how long McFadden might be sidelined or the severity of the injury. However, a short time later McFadden said that his groin just tightened up on him and that he expects to be fine. That's welcome news to the Raiders faithful, who are growing accustomed to McFadden dominating games and realize his value to the team's overall success. Against the New York Jets on Sunday, McFadden rushed for a game-high 171 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 7 yards. If McFadden can't play against the New

Darren McFadden was a Terrell Davis fan growing up. And new Raiders offensive coordinator Al Saunders compared the 24-year-old running back to Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. But McFadden, a 6-foot-2, 210-pounder, has never tried to run like anybody else. "I never trademarked it or anything," he said, smiling, "but I have a different style than anybody else. I am a lankier guy. A lot of people say I run high and that may be the case, but at the same time, I know how to run behind my pads and am more powerful than a lot of guys think I am. I'm a faster back and a bigger back." With his 4.33-second 40-yard speed, McFadden ran by, through and around defenders last season for 1,157 yards -

For once, Darren McFadden wasn't fast enough. A long pass sailed over McFadden's head, prompting Raiders free safety and resident court jester Michael Huff to ask, "You lost a step?" It was earlier this week in the second practice for McFadden since he broke a bone in his left eye socket Aug. 3, and his presence pushed the session into a second gear. In each of the past four training camps, McFadden has been the best player on the field, displaying what might be the most complete skill set of any NFL running back. "He can do everything," reserve running back Rock Cartwright said. "He pass protects. He runs over guys. He makes guys miss. You can put him at wide receiver." Yet it wasn't

Time will tell if the Raiders are any better, but they got a lot faster Monday. Running back Darren McFadden and wide receiver Jacoby Ford, who accounted for 17 touchdowns last season and have missed the bulk of training camp and both exhibition games, were back on the practice field during a noncontact session. McFadden, who suffered a broken orbital bone in his left eye on Aug. 3, looked as if he had never been away, getting in a lot of work, exploding to the perimeter and hauling in one 45-yard pass over the shoulder from Trent Edwards against linebacker Quentin Groves. "It wasn't like it was holding me back as far as my legs or anything," McFadden said of his injury. "It wasn't like I

Raiders' Darren McFadden out 2 weeks after block

The Raiders are getting stomped like grapes up here in wine country. Just in the past week of training camp, Oakland has lost four of its top six players - cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha , tight end Zach Miller , receiver Jacoby Ford and now running back Darren McFadden . Free agents Asomugha and Miller left town for new teams, Ford broke a bone in his left hand and McFadden will be out at least two weeks with a broken orbital bone. The Raiders welcomed 15 players to training camp Thursday who signed contracts since the lockout ended and said a temporary goodbye to running back Darren McFadden. Their most explosive offensive player, McFadden was not present and is out at least two weeks with a fractured orbital bone, or eye socket, an injury suffered during practice Wednesday. Coach Hue Jackson described it as "a small, little fracture of his orbit. So he'll be out a couple of weeks." After practice Wednesday, McFadden's face was unmarked, and he didn't seem to be in any pain as he stopped and talked with reporters. Darren McFadden has turf toe and although he hopes to face the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, it's not a slam dunk. "It might be a game time decision,'' coach Tom Cable said. "He's feeling much better, so we're not trying to chance it right now and see what he can do tomorrow.'' McFadden said the condition is not nearly as bad as his rookie year, when turf toe on both feet essentially wrecked his season. Behind the scenes, there were those in McFadden's camp that felt the Raiders mishandled the injury and should have shut him down earlier. He even sought medical opinions outside the organization. "It brings back memories but at the same time it's something you learn to deal with,'' McFadden

Darren McFadden is surprised it took him three years to get his first 1,000-yard season, but the running back said, "It is well worth the wait." McFadden, slowed by injuries his first two seasons, ran for 119 yards Sunday and now has 1,112 - the first Raiders back to top 1,000 since Justin Fargas in 2007. "I am feeling very comfortable out there," McFadden said. "I feel like I am running with patience and then when I see it, I am hitting it." It really is too bad that so many of their home games are blacked out. Because win or lose, the Raiders are never dull. For example, in Sunday's 39-23 victory, running back Darren McFadden's game began with a well-executed handoff to the other team -- by him. Not by design, of course. McFadden was supposed to take a handoff and start around right end. Then he was supposed to give the ball on an end-around play to teammate Jacoby Ford coming across the field from the other direction. Easy enough, right? Wrong. When the Raiders' Darren McFadden ran through and around most of the Jacksonville defense for a 36-yard touchdown to tie the game at 31 with less than two minutes left, receiver Louis Murphy got a taste of something the team hasn't experienced in eight years. "Here we go," he told himself. "Playoff football. This is what playoff football is." And just like that, there it went. Jacksonville's Deji Karim ran back the ensuing kickoff 65 yards, and on the next play, Maurice Jones Drew scored untouched from 30 yards out for the last score in an entertaining 38-31 win over Oakland at Everbank Field. Quarterback Jason Campbell drove the Raiders to the Jaguars' 23-yard line when time ran out. "I

Darren McFadden is vital to an Oakland Raiders revival

Raiders helmets hung from hooks at players' stalls Monday inside their quiet and messy locker room at team headquarters. At least 10 of those silver helmets bore aqua-colored scars from Sunday's collisions with the Miami Dolphins' headgear. No helmet featured more aqua reminders than running back Darren McFadden's. Even his face mask was discolored. No player is more vital to the Raiders' fading playoff hopes than McFadden. Not whichever quarterback starts. Not whichever coach (or owner or coordinator) is in charge. Not whichever cornerback gets burned. "He, no question, is as good a runner as there is in football, and I think he's proved that," coach Tom Cable said. "We've got to get back

McFadden is bustin' out for Oakland Raiders

Two years later than most expected, Raiders running back Darren McFadden finally is making good on the hype and promise that surrounded him when he entered the NFL in 2008 as a so-called can't-miss prospect. Those who questioned his ability as an every-down back now are resigned to singing McFadden's praises. "I've been familiar with Darren for a long time and his style and the great explosive plays he has in him," said coach Pete Carroll, whose Seattle Seahawks will play the Raiders on Sunday. "He's just growing." McFadden's teammates are of the mind that he always has been capable of being the dominant player he has been this season. The difference now is that McFadden is healthy,

This is the Darren McFadden the Raiders had in mind when they made him the fourth pick of the 2008 draft, the type of back who can strike fear into defenses. Having sat out two games with a hamstring injury, McFadden ran wild in Sunday's Mauling at Mile High. With four touchdowns, he tied the club record held by Art Powell (1963), Marcus Allen (1984) and Harvey Williams (1997). His 57-yard touchdown run against the Broncos was the longest of his pro career and demonstrated the home run threat he hadn't shown in his first two, injury-hampered seasons. On his 19-yard screen pass for another touchdown, he showed the full package - the speed, the elusiveness (he left a tackler grasping at air

Denver Broncos learn that a healthy Darren McFadden means a world of trouble

Raiders running back Darren McFadden worried about his ability to summon the necessary "burst" as a result of the right hamstring that has nagged him of late. McFadden on Sunday answered any doubt with a 196-yard all-around performance that yielded four touchdowns and propelled the Raiders to a 59-14 victory over the Denver Broncos at Invesco Field at Mile High. "When he's been healthy, he's been very, very productive, so I'm not surprised by it," Raiders coach Tom Cable said. "I'm pleased, though, that it came in a game like this. When he's been on the field, he has shown that he is very much the guy we drafted." The Raiders selected McFadden with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2008 NFL

Every successful team at some point has a watershed moment, that one play or one game that serves as the turning point in the transformation from just another team into a relevant one. The Raiders are confident that Sunday's record-setting 59-14 victory over the Denver Broncos was just that, an unmistakable sign that they have turned the corner and showed what's in store from here on out. "Any time that you're coming off a loss and you can put together a game like that, absolutely it has the potential to string into a number of victories going down the road," Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said. Raiders coach Tom Cable said he and his coaches challenged their players to leave no

Gallery back, maybe McFadden too

Twelve Raiders have gone down with hamstring injuries since the start of training camp (13 if you count Darren McFadden twice), and guard Robert Gallery chuckled Thursday when he was asked for a possible explanation. "It's hard to say," Gallery said. "The doctors say it's from overwork, so I guess I will go with what the doctors say." Gallery's hamstring popped in the season opener against Tennessee, and he returned to practice this week. He said he is good to go and will return to the starting lineup Sunday against the 49ers at Candlestick Park. McFadden's left hamstring tightened up during training camp and he missed three weeks. Now, it's his right one and while it's not as bad - the

Running back Darren McFadden looks just fine on the practice field. His words paint a different picture regarding the health of his injured right hamstring. "I'm still feeling it right now," McFadden said of the discomfort Thursday. "I haven't just gone out there and tried to go 100 percent all the way." As a result, he said his status for Sunday's game against the 49ers is "up in the air." Raiders coach Tom Cable said he won't risk aggravating McFadden's injury by playing him at anything less than 100 percent healthy. McFadden suffered the injury on a 23-yard run in the second half against the Houston Texans on Oct. 3. He missed Oakland's win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Because

Michael Bush to replace injured McFadden

As expected, Raiders running back Darren McFadden was ruled out Friday for Sunday's game against San Diego because of a hamstring pull. Although it looks as if he's leaving big shoes to fill - McFadden was second in the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 554 - remember this: Those shoes were probably Michael Bush's in the first place. Bush was on his way to beating out McFadden for the starting job when he broke his thumb in a preseason game Aug. 28. In two games since returning, Bush has 10 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown backing up McFadden. McFadden's "stats are very strong," coach Tom Cable said. "We've got to find a way to get that same production, but I think Michael's ready to

The way Darren McFadden has been playing, the only thing that could stop the Raiders' running back was another injury. And there it was, early in the fourth quarter, when he pulled up on a 23-yard run, grabbing his right hamstring. "I was trying to go for another gear and I just pulled up," he said. "I tried to get out (of bounds) first because I didn't want to pull it too fast." He was done for the day, after catching six passes for 82 yards, running 12 times for 47 yards and making a great block on fullback Marcel Reece's touchdown catch. McFadden will see trainers today and "take it day to day." He missed most of training camp with a tight left hamstring. McFadden, who has 554 yards

Raiders running back Darren McFadden discovered Sunday what every other running back to face the Houston Texans already had this season: It's difficult. McFadden averaged 115 yards the first three games but rushed for only 47 on Sunday before exiting the game with a right hamstring injury in the fourth quarter. Backup Michael Bush added 40 yards. "They have a good front seven," McFadden said of the Texans. "Those guys are good getting off blocks and making plays." McFadden also said he felt as if the Raiders did a decent job running the ball, all things considered. Overall, the Raiders had 118 yards rushing, well more than twice the 54.3 average allowed by the Texans in their first three

Darren McFadden has turned whispers into grunts this season. The whispers that perhaps he was another bust along the lines of JaMarcus Russell are gone after two games, drowned out by the grunts of opposing players getting knocked backward by the Raiders running back. The fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft, McFadden is finally healthy and off to a great start. He is second in the NFL with 240 yards rushing, on 48 carries that have seen the speedster often lower his shoulder and deliver a hit rather than take one. McFadden also has eight catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Although McFadden is not the type to say, "I told you so," his teammates and coaches are. "Any time I've gotten

Running back Darren McFadden shined brightest for the Raiders on Sunday, when positives were few and far between during a season-opening loss to the Tennessee Titans. McFadden rushed for 95 yards on 18 carries, caught six passes for 55 more yards and scored Oakland's lone touchdown. "He was a real positive for our football team," Raiders coach Tom Cable said. "He did a lot of things that we needed him to do, catching the ball, blocking, running with the football. He was able to convert some plays. That's the kind of player we envisioned him being. As I have said all along, if he is healthy, that's what he is capable of." McFadden battled toe, shoulder and knee injuries during his first two
