Slump hurt Granger
February 11
Indianapolis Star
"
Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger went into Friday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a higher scoring average (18.3 ppg) than recently named Eastern Conference All-Stars Luol Deng (Chicago, 16.0) and Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia, 13.0) and only percentage points lower than Atlanta's Joe Johnson (18.6) and Boston's Paul Pierce (18.4). The Pacers also went into Friday with a better record than Boston and Atlanta. Granger isn't blaming anybody, but he knows his slow start cost him a spot on the All-Star Game roster. "Across the board, if you want to compare numbers, my numbers are probably identical to Joe Johnson's minus my field goal percentage," Granger said. "That's what did me

Pacers lose to Hawks 87-97; Indiana's Granger scores 21 points
February 9
Indianapolis Star
"
Josh Smith scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading the Hawks to a 97-87 victory over the Indiana Pacers tonight that snapped Atlanta's three-game home losing streak. The Hawks, who had fallen behind by big margins in each game on the homestand, finally got off to a good start. Atlanta built a 21-point lead in the first half and withstood a charge by Indiana over the final two quarters.
"
Granger stoked to score big in Pacers' win over Timberwolves
February 2
Indianapolis Star
"
It wasn't that long ago -- three weeks to be exact -- that Indiana Pacers small forward Danny Granger had the undistinguished honor of sitting at the bottom of the league in field goal percentage. Granger is doing his best to make that a distant memory while helping the Pacers win games. He didn't let Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love slow him down Wednesday night. Granger, inspired by a skirmish with Love, continued his recent surge with a season-high 36 points to help the Pacers beat the Timberwolves 109-99 at the Target Center.

Granger goes off while the Pacers add another enemy to the list
February 2

"
Danny Granger could have easily tried to play the role of Superman without thinking about his teammates. He could have used Kevin Love's hard (could have been a flagrant) foul as an excuse to disrupt the offense by jacking up shots. This isn't a few years ago, Granger says. Back track to last season and Granger would have definitely started trying to get back at Love and the Timberwolves by shooting the ball over and over again.

Pacers rally to beat Raptors despite Granger's ejection
January 14
Indianapolis Star
"
Danny Granger who? Not even Granger's immature antics could stop the Indiana Pacers (8-3) from improving to their best start since 2004. George Hill had his best game as a Pacer to help them overcome Granger's ejection and a 16-point deficit to beat the Toronto Raptors 95-90 Friday night at Air Canada Centre. "I'm proud of our guys for grinding out a game that didn't really go our way," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. Hill, who has found an offensive rhythm over the past week, carried the Pacers offensively all night. The former Broad Ripple High School and IUPUI star scored 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. He scored 13 points in the second half when the

January 9

"
The Indiana Pacers could be without two key rotation players, including one starter, for tonight's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Forward Danny Granger (food poisoning) and guard George Hill (back) will be game-time decisions tonight. Hill injured his back when Charlotte Bobcats guard Gerald Henderson threw him off his back while getting off the ground Saturday.

Granger leads Pacers to rare 3-0 start
December 31
Indianapolis Star
"
The Indiana Pacers got served a dose of reality in the form of a scrappy, energetic Cleveland Cavaliers team Friday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. But when it was all said and done, the Pacers had one of their strongest defensive quarters in years, mixed in with some luck at the end of regulation to move to 3-0 for the first time in four years. The Pacers withstood being bullied around for the first 24 minutes to pull out a 98-91 victory over the Cavaliers in front of 13,004 fans. "We knew they were a good team despite what their record was last year," Pacers forward Danny Granger said. "They came in and we kind of took them for granted. They were beating us up the first half. "I think

Pacers Danny Granger fires pointed tweet at NBA commissioner David Stern
December 9
Indianapolis Star
"
Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger has taken his frustration with NBA commissioner David Stern to his Twitter page. Granger, like a lot of people in the NBA, wasn't happy that Stern blocked the trade that was going to send All-Star guard Chris Paul from New Orleans to the Los Angeles Lakers to team with fellow All-Star Kobe Bryant in a three-team deal that also included the Houston Rockets on Thursday. "Due to the sabotaging of the LA/NO trade by david stern, and following in the footsteps of my athlete brethren Metta World Peace and Chad Ochocinco, I'm changing my last name to "Stern's Bi#&h" #effectiveimmediately," Granger wrote on his Twitter page. Granger later clarified his comment

Granger expects union to nix 'final' offer
November 12
Indianapolis Star
"
Fans may have to wait even longer to see the Indiana Pacers play. Pacers forward Danny Granger said Friday that early indications are the National Basketball Players Association will reject the league's latest proposal in contract negotiations. Commissioner David Stern supposedly presented the players a final offer, which included a 50-50 revenue split, Thursday night. It would allow for a 72-game season that would start Dec. 15 if they approved it. "From what I've seen and heard, the counteroffer is the same they presented us a week ago, making a few minor changes that, in the big scheme of things, really did nothing to the deal," said Granger, the team's union representative, in a phone

Granger, fellow Pacers want to help fieldhouse workers
October 20
Indianapolis Star
"
Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger wants to give back to the Conseco Fieldhouse employees affected financially by the NBA lockout. His idea is to treat fieldhouse employees who get paid by the game to dinner, and possibly donate proceeds from a benefit basketball game to them as well. Granger, who made $11 million last season, has floated the plan on his Twitter account.

October 19

"
Danny Granger, along with every other NBA player, isn't getting paid during the lockout. That's not stopping Granger from sharing some of the near $11 million he made last season with some of the unfortunate Conseco Fieldhouse workers who aren't getting paid because of the lockout. Granger is the process of trying to arrange a dinner with the fieldhouse employees who are impacted financially because of the lockout. He also wants to put together a charity game where the proceeds can go to the workers.

Granger fumes about Bulls' Noah
April 27
Indianapolis Star
"
The Indiana Pacers were labeled "goons," "hoodlums" and "thugs" by Chicago Bulls fans for their aggressive play during teams' first-round NBA playoff series. It turns out, Pacers forward Danny Granger thought the Bulls were taking cheap shots. Granger had to be restrained from going after Bulls center Joakim Noah as the teams exchanged handshakes on the court at the end of the Bulls' series-ending 116-89 win. Granger accused Noah of playing dirty throughout the game, taking cheap shots at Pacers, including forward Josh McRoberts, who was ejected in the third quarter. Granger was in the hallway outside the locker room using expletives to describe Noah's play. "Everybody saw what Josh did

Pacers' Granger 'just telling the truth' about Bulls
April 15
Chicago Sun-Times
"
Indiana Pacers star forward Danny Granger says he's not backing down from his earlier quote, and adds that he isn't worried about the Bulls posting it on the bulletin board. Granger has said he would rather play the Bulls than the Boston Celtics because of the Celtics' championships and weapons, and that the best way to beat the Bulls is to "make a concerted effort to stop Derrick Rose. They go as Derrick Rose goes." "I meant what I said and I'm not taking anything back because I was just telling the truth," Granger said after Thursday's practice. "I don't believe in any of that bulletin board stuff, anyway. This is the NBA. You've got to come to play every game no matter what. You don't

Granger more accurate than offensive
April 14
Chicago Tribune
columnist David Haugh
"
Don't give Pacers forward Danny Granger grief over his comments about the Bulls. Give Granger a studio seat and some air time after his Pacers lose in five. His spot-on analysis of the Bulls and respect for the Celtics experience was more accurate than offensive. "Boston's a different monster," Granger said. "They don't have the best record in the East, but they won championships. They know how to do it. They have four, five guys you have to worry about, from (Paul) Pierce, (Rajon) Rondo, (Kevin) Garnett and (Ray) Allen. "Chicago, they go as Derrick Rose goes. If you make a concerted effort to stop Derrick Rose, you have a better chance to beat them." Sure, stop Rose, stop the Bulls.

Can Pacers' Granger back up his talk?
April 13
Indianapolis Star
columnist Bob Kravitz
"
For now, Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger isn't as unpopular in Chicago as, say, Steve Bartman, Jay Cutler and Cheeseheads. But he's making inroads. After saying several times that he'd prefer to play the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs instead of the Boston Celtics, Granger has taken some shots from Bulls fans. At least one of them got ugly on Twitter, dropping the "N" bomb on Granger. He responded with his own tweet, writing, in part, "Ain't the Bulls black?! lmao." Of course, that's just one tweet -- "It just made me laugh," Granger said Tuesday -- but as the playoffs approach, there's every reason to believe the heat will be turned up. The Pacers and Bulls will

Danny Granger would have drawn considerable defensive attention in the Bulls-Pacers playoff series even before making a comment that also will make him a marked man. "Boston's a different monster," Granger told the Indianapolis Star. The Bulls have been a self-motivated team all season, so they reacted mostly with a shrug to Granger's comment. In

Granger hits game-winner as Pacers beat Knicks again
March 16
Indianapolis Star
"
Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger likes to refer to it as his go-to move. It's a move that he had yet to use for a game-winning basket during his six-year career. That was until Tuesday night. Granger made a 17-foot step-back jumper over former teammate Shawne Williams with 0.3 seconds remaining to give the Pacers a 119-117 victory over the New York Knicks in front of an energized crowd at Conseco Fieldhouse. "You've always got to be able to have a move you can go to when you need a bucket," Granger said. "That's mine." The Pacers have won two straight games over the Knicks since their six-game losing skid and moved a half-game ahead of Charlotte for the final playoff spot in the

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger had a name tag above his locker at Madison Square Garden, but he was nowhere to be found. Granger was in the back receiving IV fluids in an effort to play in Sunday's game against the New York Knicks. Not even that gave Granger enough energy to play against the Knicks. Flu-like symptoms kept Granger out in the Pacers' 106-93 victory.
"
Granger doesn't like new free agent trend
February 23
Indianapolis Star
"
Indiana Pacers swingman Danny Granger sees the trend around the NBA. Major-market city. All-Star player. The two combine to make that NBA team a possible title contender. Granger doesn't like that trend because he said that hurts small-market teams like the Pacers. The latest move came when the New York Knicks acquired forward Carmelo Anthony to go with another All-Star, Amare Stoudemire. "They're definitely better," Granger said. "Obviously I don't like it because we have to play against them three more times." Granger compared the move to LeBron James and Chris Bosh joining Dwyane Wade in Miami. The Heat have the third-best record in the league. "They're all taking a page out of Miami's

The numbers don't lie when it comes to Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger . The Pacers don't have a lot of success when he doesn't have his shooting stroke going. The Pacers are 3-15 this season when Granger doesn't shoot at least 40 percent from the field. That was the case again Friday in their 99-86 loss to the Chicago Bulls. The small forward scored a team-high 22 points on only 8-of-23 shooting. "I think he started to press a little bit," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "( Luol ) Deng is a great defensive player." Granger's shooting problems go beyond having the opposing team's best perimeter defender guarding him. He has a difficult time telling the difference between a good

Hibbert, Granger lead Pacers to stunning win
November 29

The list keeps growing for the Indiana Pacers. First there was the Denver Nuggets. Then there was LeBron James and Co. in Miami. But the most impressive one came Sunday night against the back-to-back champion Los Angeles Lakers. The Pacers got their first victory at Staples Center when they beat the Lakers 95-92 in front of a sellout crowd of 18,997 fans. "A great win for us to beat the champions on their court," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "We've been playing well. This is a huge, huge win for us. It ranks right up there with our win at Miami." The Pacers were 0-11 against the Lakers at the Staples Center prior to Sunday. Roy Hibbert led the Pacers with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Danny

Granger commits to defense
November 20
Indianapolis Star
"
Scoring has never been a problem for Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger. He has shown over the years he is capable of producing 30-point outbursts against any opponent. His defense, however, has been a different story. Granger, who once took pride in trying to shut down the opponent's best perimeter player, had developed a reputation for being one-dimensional. But two events in recent months helped change his approach. While playing for Team USA at the World Championships, Granger found himself on the bench due to his defensive play. He also had a conversation with Pacers coach Jim O'Brien about the importance of high-level defense. "We told Dan that one of his goals should be to be on

Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert lead in 'must win' over Clippers
November 19
Indianapolis Star
"
It was no disrespect to the Los Angeles Clippers, but Thursday's game was one the Indiana Pacers knew they couldn't let slip away. Not against a struggling Clippers team that played the night before and has only one victory. Not when the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat loom as the next two opponents. The Pacers handled their business with ease, as they scored from outside and Roy Hibbert provided the offense inside in their 107-80 victory at Conseco Fieldhouse. "We definitely looked at this game as a must win," Pacers forward Danny Granger said. "The Clippers, they're a team that can win on any given night even though they have a bad record. We just had to make sure we took care of things,

Danny Granger leads Pacers to win over Cleveland Cavaliers
November 15

It would not be surprising if the Indiana Pacers' Jim O'Brien, a coach of statistics, took the box score from the second half of Saturday's 99-85 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, laminated it and posted it in each of his players' lockers as a reminder of what they can do when they are committed. The Pacers (4-4), just 24 hours removed from a disappointing home loss, locked in defensively and made the extra pass offensively to get their record back to .500. "A really good defensive second half," O'Brien said. "A good bounce-back win. Our wings Michael (Dunleavy) and Danny (Granger) were terrific. We did a lot of positive things." The victory was just the fourth in the past 20 meetings

O'Brien picks Rush to fill in for injured Granger
October 19
Indianapolis Star
"
Indiana Pacers swingman Brandon Rush did a double take after he heard what coach Jim O'Brien had to say. Rush will start the final two preseason games -- tonight at Minnesota and Friday at Chicago -- because Danny Granger is out with an ankle injury. O'Brien said he wants to continue using Paul George as the first wing player off the bench. "I was real surprised when I found out I would be starting," Rush said. "I thought I was done playing because of my suspension." Granger is expected to return in time for the season opener, Oct. 27 at San Antonio. Rush is playing his final two games for several weeks due to a five-game regular-season suspension stemming from three positive drug tests.

Indiana Pacers small forward Danny Granger will be out as long as 10 days with a sprained left ankle. He injured it on a drive to the basket in the first half of Friday's game against New Orleans. Granger will be back in time for the season opener at San Antonio on Oct. 27 barring any setbacks. Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said he's not sure who will start in Granger's place in the final two preseason games at Minnesota on Tuesday and Chicago on Friday.

The Pacers suffered a big blow when Danny Granger injured his left ankle driving to the basket late in the first half Friday. It's unknown how long Granger will be sidelined. "It swelled right up," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said about their best offensive player. "I don't know how long it's going to take for him to get healed. Clearly we need him to be healthy. But we can't do anything about that until we find out how severely sprained it is." T.J. Ford tweaked the same hamstring that has been giving him problems all camp. Losing Granger for any period of time during the regular season will hurt the Pacers. That was evident in the third quarter. Granger only had eight points, but his

Granger sees less action in World Basketball Championship
September 22

"
Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger's gold medal with Team USA in the World Championship earlier this month came with a significant sacrifice. Playing time. Granger went from averaging at least 32 minutes each of the past four seasons with the Pacers to being on the end of the bench with Team USA. Granger averaged 4.1 points (second fewest on the team) and 9.7 minutes (third fewest). He played in only seven of the nine games in Turkey. "It was a little difficult, but when you put a team together to go win the gold in international basketball, I think you have to go with the advantage, and that was the athleticism of our guards and pressing the ball," Granger said. Lack of defense costing Granger minutes in Turkey
September 3
Indianapolis Star
"
Playing for Team USA this summer is the best thing for Danny Granger. Granger is hopefully using his time playing with Kevin Durant and Co. to learn what he needs to do to improve his game. It's no secret that Granger's defense has regressed the past few years. His lack of defense has been in an even bigger spotlight this summer. Some people thought Granger would end up getting more minutes than Andre Iguodala and Rudy Gay when the team was training in Las Vegas. It's been the opposite. Granger got a DNP-CD in USA's narrow victory over Brazil earlier this week. He's averaging 13.3 minutes a game. Iguodala let's his defense dictate his offense. He gets in the passing lane so that he has an

First, Larry Bird said it. Now, Danny Granger is being even more specific about what type of move the Indiana Pacers soon could make. Asked by FanHouse on Friday in Springfield, Mass., where Bird was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame along with members of the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, the Pacers president said the team needs to make another trade before the start of the regular season. Asked by FanHouse about Bird's comments, Granger said management has told him to expect a move, and he figures they will look to acquire a big man. Danny Granger injured his right ring finger during the final scrimmage of a three-hour practice Tuesday on Team USA's first full day of training camp, the latest instance of adversity to strike the U.S. national team. "He dislocated the bone, but he said he put it right back, and he says he feels he'll be all right," coach Mike Krzyzewski said following the practice at John Jay University. Playing defense, Granger was going up to contest a shot when he jammed his hand against the underside of the rim. They'll make their final effort for a roster spot at this week's training camp in New York. Danny Granger is pushing Larry Legend aside in hopes of giving the Indiana Pacers better luck in Tuesday's NBA draft lottery. Team president Larry Bird, who will be on hand at the lottery, represented the Pacers on stage the past three years. They failed to move up each time. Granger will be on camera Tuesday (8 p.m., ESPN). The Pacers have a 1.1 percent chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick, which is expected to be Kentucky's John Wall. They have a 1.3 percent chance of moving up to No. 2 and a 1.57 percent chance of jumping up to No. 3. If the lottery positions hold, the Pacers will pick 10th in the June 24 draft.

Pacers' Granger to have short offseason

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger's offseason will be shorter and he hopes busier than normal. Granger planned to spend plenty of time in the gym working on his game as he attempts to help the Pacers end their four-year playoff absence next season. The difference this summer is he will start back sooner, preparing for the upcoming USA Basketball national team camp. Granger hopes to be selected for Team USA at the World Championships in Turkey in late August. His ability to play both forward positions works in his favor. "This will definitely be a different summer for me because I normally take a little bit of time after the season to rest, but I plan to get back at it sooner," Granger

Danny Granger's career-high 44 leads Pacers past Jazz
March 27
The Deseret News
"
As a 29-3 Indiana run that started in the third quarter and continued into the fourth finally came to a close, the Jazz called a timeout and the game clock read "9:11." By then, it was way too late to dial for help. The Pacers had gone from 12 down to 18 up in a span of seven minutes and 32 seconds, and they had no trouble holding on to beat Utah 122-106 Friday night at Conseco Fieldhouse. Behind Danny Granger's career-high 44 points, Indiana — which won its fifth straight and snapped a four-game losing streak to the Jazz — denied coach Jerry Sloan's club a chance to shake Dallas and remain tied with Denver for the second-best record in the NBA's Western Conference and Northwest Division.

Danny Granger led the way and the rest of his Indiana Pacers teammates followed close behind. Granger continued his late-season offensive explosion when he scored a career-high 44 points in a come-from-behind 122-106 victory over the Utah Jazz on Friday night in front of an enthusiastic 15,463 fans at Conseco Fieldhouse. "I think we showed a type of resiliency we haven't shown throughout the season," Granger said. "We got down, but we didn't think we were going to lose. We kept playing and grinding it out. The next thing we knew, we were winning." Granger isn't the only one having an impressive finish to the season. The Pacers have won five straight games and seven in a row at home. Three

Josh McRoberts doesn't have the low-post skills of Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert. That's OK. McRoberts did other things to help make up for the loss of Hibbert (sprained jaw) against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. The one-time Carmel High School star, making just his third start of the season, scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to help the Pacers beat the Wizards 99-82. The Pacers have won four in a row and six straight at home. They will go for their fifth straight victory Friday against the Utah Jazz. McRoberts had the Conseco Fieldhouse crowd rallying behind him early when he had four points, two rebounds and an assist in the first three minutes of the

Indiana Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said there is no timetable for forward Danny Granger's return to the lineup. Granger was examined and released from Methodist Hospital after a CT scan on his head and neck taken Tuesday night came back negative. "(The team's physicians will) evaluate him on a day-to-day basis," O'Brien said. "If he's capable of going, he'll go, but you never know when somebody gets hit that hard in the head area." Granger, who did not attend Wednesday's game at Cleveland, took an elbow to his cheek late in Tuesday's win over Charlotte. He had to be helped to the locker room. O'Brien said the Pacers are used to playing without Granger because of the amount of time he has

Pacers get a win, but lose Granger

The Indiana Pacers put an end to the Charlotte Bobcats' six-game winning streak Tuesday, but it came at the expense of leading-scorer Danny Granger. Granger missed the final 56 seconds of a 99-94 victory after taking an inadvertent elbow on his cheek while battling for a rebound. As play was going on at the other end of the court, Granger slowly made his way back upcourt grabbing his groin area. He signaled to athletic trainer Josh Corbeil that he needed to be taken out of the game after play had been stopped by a foul. Granger staggered toward to the bench before stumbling to the floor right before getting there. The team's medical staff quickly surrounded Granger. A few minutes later, a

Danny Granger said he doesn't regret signing a contract extension prior to the start of the 2008-09 season. He's headed for an early offseason for the fourth straight year after making the playoffs his rookie season. "Signing my extension was a no-brainer," he said after the Pacers got beat by the Boston Celtics on Friday. Granger was asked if he thought he needed a better supporting cast. "With our offense, (with) what we do, it's equal opportunity," he said. "For whatever reason, our offense hasn't been there. We got worse on defense." Team officials have no choice but to add better players if they expect to be decent anytime soon. ************************ Granger said he's appealing

Pacers try teamwork in Granger's absence

The Indiana Pacers knew they couldn't have one player try to make up for the absence of Danny Granger. So instead, they used a team effort to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 107-96 to end a four-game losing streak Tuesday night at Conseco Fieldhouse. "Danny is our leading scorer and our go-to guy, and definitely we look at him to do some scoring," swingman Dahntay Jones said. "But it wasn't on one person's shoulders. It was a team effort, and the ball didn't stop (moving), and we didn't look for one guy to make plays for us. We made plays for everybody. That's a team effort." Granger missed the game while serving a league-mandated one-game suspension for an altercation in Phoenix on Saturday.

The Indiana Pacers knew there would be fallout from Saturday's altercation with the Phoenix Suns. They didn't know forward Danny Granger would be suspended one game for his part in the third-quarter incident. Granger's teammates Earl Watson and Roy Hibbert were fined $30,000 and $25,000, respectively, for their parts. Phoenix's Channing Frye also was suspended for a game and guard Jason Richardson was fined $25,000. Granger served his suspension Tuesday night, a 107-96 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers at Conseco Fieldhouse. "I think we're all very surprised," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. Upon further review, there were a few bad punches thrown in the third-quarter fracas during Phoenix's 113-105 victory against Indiana. There was nothing that would not make Manny Pacquiao laugh but it will be enough for the league office to review. So it all started apparently moments earlier when two Pacers fumbled away a rebound and Channing Frye picked it up for a dunk follow. "When he turned around, he elbowed me," Watson told the Indianapolis Star. "The next play, he was setting a pick and he was using his hands and I told him to, 'Put your hands down.' He kept shoving me with his hands and I smacked his hands." Two minutes after Frye's dunk, switching off a screen, Watson wound up on

Granger can't make Pacers winners

The Indiana Pacers have a hard enough time beating teams when they're clicking on both ends of the court. They have no chance of doing it when it's a one-man scoring show. That was the case against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. Forward Danny Granger scored a game-high 30 points, but he didn't have any help from his teammates in their 102-79 loss to the Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden. "You don't see many times when one guy on your team has double figures and nobody else cracks double figures," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "Danny had a good game and we turned the ball over too many times." Granger went 12-of-22 from the field to make up for being shutdown by Los Angeles Lakers

Danny Granger sat slouched in his chair, zoning out in the locker room with his game shorts on before a recent game. One of his shoes was untied. The other rested a couple of feet away. The Indiana Pacers forward paid no attention to the jokes a couple of teammates were telling on the other side of the room. Granger should have been focusing on what it would take to beat the Chicago Bulls that night. He has been unable to concentrate on such matters, however, as the Pacers embark on a four-game trip, starting tonight in Los Angeles against the Lakers. What has already been the most "trying season" in his five-year career took another turn early last week when he left the team for a couple

Danny Granger returned to the starting lineup Wednesday night against the Bulls, but the Indiana Pacers were without Mike Dunleavy. The Pacers' leading scorer, Granger missed Monday's 91-82 loss in Dallas for personal reasons. He matched a season high with 36 points in Saturday's 125-115 victory in Houston. Granger said before Wednesday's game it wouldn't be difficult to focus once the game started. "Basketball is kind of a release for me," said Granger, averaging 22.9 ppg in his fifth year in the NBA. "I've done it all my life. I just want to get back in the flow of things as quickly as possible." Pacers coach Jim O'Brien didn't expect any issues getting Granger into his normal rhythm.
