Danny Briere News & Rumors
Flyers' Briere nets goal for sick youngster
May 6
CSN Philly
"
Until a few days ago, Danny Briere never knew Michael Pageau, an 11-year-old who lives in Gatineau. Not until RDS hockey reporter Renaud Lavoie wrote a blog about the boy on the network's website. The youngster is among Briere's biggest fans and was facing a life-threatening surgery. This past Monday, the child underwent 14 hours of brain surgery at Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa to remove a tumor. Doctors were unable to remove the entire tumor in one surgery. Michael is a bantam hockey player in Quebec.

Briere's '2nd' OT goal counts for Game 1 win
April 30
Courier-Post
"
Danny Briere was pouting. The Flyers center with a postseason pedigree to die for was pretty sure he'd stopped while crashing the net and that teammate Matt Carle's backhander to the New Jersey Devils net had bounced off his skate and into the goal 2:13 into overtime Sunday. Even after looking up at the Wells Fargo Center jumbotron and seeing he'd kicked the puck in and that officials correctly waved off his goal, Briere still was feeling for himself. "Calm down," Briere told himself sitting on the Flyers bench as Game 1 of a nerve-racking Eastern Conference Semifinal played on. His next shift, Briere found the back of the net again.

Briere's OT winner tops Devils in Game 1

"
They knew it wouldn't be an 11-goal game. They knew the pace wouldn't be explosive, non-stop, end-to-end rushes like it was against Pittsburgh. The knew the New Jersey Devils would capitalize on mistakes (they did) and patiently wait for opportunities to score late (they did). They knew they would be stale after a week off between series. All that said, the Flyers felt reasonably assured they would still prevail in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Sunday at Wells Fargo Center. And they did, winning 4-3 in overtime on a goal by -- who else? -- Danny Briere.

Briere rises to new heights come April
April 14
Courier-Post
"
Danny Briere grew almost a foot stepping up onto one of the two mini podiums in the Flyers' dressing room that help cameramen get clear shots during well-attended interviews. Briere answered a few questions up there after Friday's morning skate, then as the crowd of media in his face was thinning out, he stepped down to continue his interview at normal size. Officially, Briere is listed at 5 feet 10, 180 pounds. Stand next to him and you'd probably guess he's 5-8, 160. Size doesn't matter for Briere. Watch this 34-year-old mighty mite play hockey and you'll usually find him in the corners or in front of goalies creating a bunch of scoring chances while bigger and stronger defensemen are

Signs point to Briere's return Wednesday

Danny Briere says the Flyers have told him not to talk about his back spasms. Or whether he's going to centering Brayden Schenn and Jakub Voracek in Game 1 against the Penguins. "To be honest, I'm not allowed to speak on any injuries or the roster or if I'm going to play or not," Briere said with a smile on Monday. "All I can tell you is – and you saw it – I'm practicing and working to get ready. That's all I'm allowed to say at this point."
"
Briere's playoff status uncertain
April 4
Courier-Post
"
Danny Briere couldn't play Tuesday night and will miss the Flyers' final two regular-season games, too. Being ready for the start of the playoffs is no sure thing, either. Darned back spasms. Missing games this time of the season is extra frustrating for Briere, who had just settled into a hot streak after an extended slump. Missing games due to a hard open-ice hit that he believes came from a player who had an intent to injure is making the healing process that much worse.
"
Grossmann, Briere join injury list
April 3
Courier-Post
"
The NHL playoffs are right around the corner and the Flyers are finishing strongly. Now if they can only get healthy. Already missing their hot goalie and several other players because of injury, the Flyers lost two more important pieces during Sunday's 6-4 win in Pittsburgh. Defenseman Nick Grossmann and center Danny Briere joined an injury list that included goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, defensemen Chris Pronger, Andrej Meszaros and Andreas Lilja, and forwards James van Riemsdyk and Tom Sestito.

Can Briere turn things around before playoffs?

They were attempting to praise him. It was bad timing. And yet picking that ultimately inopportune moment was fitting in a way. Things have not gone all that well for him this season, and so it makes sense that timing wouldn't be any different. Midway through the first period, while the Flyers and Lightning were still scoreless, a complimentary message was posted on the giant scoreboard that hangs above the ice at the Wells Fargo Center. It was a digital back pat, an electronic 'attaboy for Danny Briere, a guy who hasn't had many of those over the last few months. The missive, and we're paraphrasing for simplification purposes, had to do with Briere depositing two pucks behind Montreal's

Slumping Briere knows Flyers must fix issues

Plenty of hockey players -- all athletes, probably -- are likely to sugarcoat their teams' disappointing efforts when addressing the media after games. But as anyone who's spent any time around the Flyers knows, Danny Briere isn't most hockey players. When some of his teammates whitewashed the Flyers' 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night (see story) as a game in which the bounces simply didn't go their way, Briere told it like it was.

Flyers' Briere relieved to end scoring drought
March 14
CSN Philly
"
January 7, 2012. That was a good day for Danny Briere, one he no doubt remembers fondly. He scored a hat trick against the Ottawa Senators. It seems like so long ago. So much has happened since then. Let's see: The New Hampshire primary was held. So was Super Tuesday. Oh, and Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich had a delicious disagreement about grits. Pitchers and catchers reported. Ryan Howard had a setback. And some people started openly wondering when it might be time to worry about Chase Utley.

Briere works too hard for slump to continue
March 4
Courier-Post
"
Every time Phillies slugger Ryan Howard or any other slumping big-leaguer goes into a funk, they walk to the plate with their updated batting average right there for everyone to see on a giant video board. Generally, the rule of thumb is: Don't look up. The Flyers' Danny Briere reacted with a frustration-filled smile when asked the other day if he's there yet with his goal total stuck in neutral since his memorable hat trick/fight game against Ottawa way back on Jan. 7. "Well, they're not moving, so I know what they are," Briere said of his own disappointing statistics — 13 goals and 34 points in 54 games. "In baseball, it keeps going down, so it doesn't move, which is not necessarily a

Danny Briere was lucky. He could have broken his neck. Late in Tuesday's 1-0 loss at HP Pavilion, Briere was pushed head first into the corner boards by the Sharks Marc-Edouard Vlasic without a penalty. Briere laid out on the ice shaken while Flyers medical personnel hurried to his side. Incredibly, the lithe centerman was not seriously injured. "Usually, when we're in that position, guys will bear hug you or go around you," Briere said. "I was trying to create a pick for Jaromir Jagr. He was right behind me, the puck was coming around the boards.

Briere returns; JVR still has issues
February 8
Courier-Post
"
Camped out at his dressing room locker, Flyers winger James van Riemsdyk had to feel a wee bit envious seeing teammate Danny Briere just a few feet away smiling his way through an interview. Briere was over his concussion and followed a Tuesday morning skate at Wells Fargo Center by announcing that he was good to go Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.

Briere return a 'possibility' vs. Islanders
February 7
CSN Philly
"
Amid the ash, debris and rubble of The Lost Weekend against the Devils and Rangers, a light came pouring out of the Skate Zone rafters on Monday. Danny Briere. He took contact for the second time in four days. If he has no post-concussive side effects, it sounds like Briere could be available for Tuesday's game against the Islanders. "It's a possibility," Briere said. "I haven't ruled it out."

Briere, JVR absent from Flyers practice
February 2
CSN Philly
"
Neither Danny Briere nor James van Riemsdyk practiced Wednesday with the Flyers at Skate Zone. Both are recovering from concussions; both participated Tuesday with the team at the morning skate and both practiced on Monday. General manager Paul Holmgren said their absences could be interpreted as a setback, though a source said that in Briere's case, he simply wanted more rest as not to push his recovery. "The fact that they weren't out there today, I guess you could call that a setback, I don't know," Holmgren said. "We're dealing with concussions. They didn't feel as good today as yesterday. I'm not sure what that means."

Improving Briere blames himself for concussion

Flyers center Danny Briere, out indefinitely with a concussion, participated in the team's Tuesday morning skate, and afterward reported no symptoms. That was an improvement from Monday when he returned to practice for the first time since being injured Jan. 21 and experienced headaches. "I'm feeling better and better every day. That's the thing with concussions," Briere said. "You just have to hope for the best. You just never know from one day to the next what it's going to bring. I'm trying to ramp up the workload every day. Sunday I did a workout off the ice. Yesterday, I went on the ice for about half a practice and today we pushed it a little bit more. Now we just have to hope the

There were no changes in status for any of the injured Flyers at Monday's practice, but there was some good news nonetheless. Danny Briere (concussion), James van Riemsdyk (concussion), Jaromir Jagr (groin) and Zac Rinaldo (upper-body) all participated in the first team practice since the All-Star break. All wore regular orange or white jerseys instead of the no-contact jerseys injured players often wear. Briere and van Riemsdyk, who remain out indefinitely, left practice prior to the more physical drills the rest of the Flyers participated in, but their presence was encouraging.

Another concussion: Briere out indefinitely

Never mind the fact that Danny Briere had trouble getting to his feet after taking a hit from New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov in the third period. The first real clue that something was amiss with the Flyers' center came immediately postgame. In the team's locker room here at the Prudential Center, Briere sat quietly with his head bent down as he was attended to by a member of the training staff after the Flyers' 4-1 victory. He looked pallid, shaky and unlike himself. Without a word, he was whisked away, presumably to be further evaluated. It is extremely unlike Briere not to address the media after a game. Moments later, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Briere

Briere elevating play on line with Talbot
January 11
CSN Philly
"
It began four games ago when Jaromir Jagr left the lineup with a groin injury, forcing Flyers coach Peter Laviolette to juggle his lines. In many ways this season, Danny Briere's line has been "cannibalized" in that players have come and gone off that line to help other lines. Briere has centered seven different units this season. Among the "parts" lost … Scott Hartnell. Matt Read. Wayne Simmonds. This time, there was a double-reason for change. Laviolette wanted to see more passion out of Briere and felt that placing Max Talbot with him would draw it out of him. So he sat down with Briere and explained what he wanted and why.

Flyers love battlin' Briere's hat trick
January 8
Courier-Post
"
There were two bright red gashes on one side of Danny Briere's nose. His left cheek was rosy red. He had a bit of a black eye, too. Battle wounds. The Flyers' little center, one of the league's top skill players for years, reinvented himself Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center. For this matinee with the Ottawa Senators, Briere was one part Wayne Gretzky, one part Oscar de la Hoya — and had he set up a goal instead of scoring all three in the Flyers 3-2 overtime victory, he could have made like Gordie Howe, too.

Briere to center another Flyers line

CSN Philly
"
The magic number for Danny Briere is … 12. That's how many different line combinations he has centered this season. Much of it has to do with injured players and shuffling of lines fallout. His newest unit is Scott Hartnell and Jaromir Jagr as the Flyers prep for the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. Born of necessity because Sean Couturier, who replaced Claude Giroux (concussion), who is likely concussed himself. "I haven't played with these guys in a while," Briere kidded. "But now it's injuries."

Briere stumbles into controversy
November 4
Courier-Post
"
Danny Briere's return to the Flyers included some controversy. The Flyers' second shooter in their first shootout of the season, Briere beat New Jersey Devils goalie Johan Hedberg after coming in hard, nearly coming to a complete stop, then moving further forward to score. The Devils, who won the shootout 2-1 and the game 4-3, argued that Briere broke the rules by scoring after having made a complete stop. After a video replay, the goal stood and the shootout temporarily was tied 1-1.

Briere wary of Chara's high stick
May 2
Philly.com
"
Danny Briere is generously listed at 5-foot-10. Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara is accurately listed as 6-9, and is believed to be the tallest player in the history of the NHL. The disparity in height doesn't seem to make for a fair fight, but Briere scores many of his goals from the side of the net, which is the area Chara patrols. Briere scored his team-high seventh playoff goal in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Bruins in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. He also took a whack on the side of the head from Chara's stick, but there was no penalty. Briere called it accidental, but he also believes Chara is sometimes careless with his stick. Every seven-game series is difficult. Just by their nature, they have to be. You play the same team seven times in 2 weeks. Bodies collide. Enemies are created. Villains are born. Faces are smashed into the boards. But this seven-game series was a little more difficult than the others Danny Briere has played. Many of the guys wearing the opposing sweaters were ex-teammates and friends. He spent four seasons in Buffalo and still has strong ties. Briere last night, as he has all series, put those feelings aside and bedeviled his former mates. He had a goal and an assist as the Flyers finished off the Sabres, 5-2, to win their third consecutive Game 7. The stat sheet shows that Briere lost

There is wanting to win, and there is hoping to win, and then there is knowing how to actually make it happen. The last part is the hardest, because it means accepting the other possibility, that something you do, or fail to do, at the most crucial moment can lead to disaster. Hockey players make those unconscious deals with themselves at those times. Do they really want the puck? Do they really want the shot? Do they want to be part of the shift that decides everything? Do they want to be Danny Briere? "Everybody wants to be that guy," Briere said Monday, in the short lull between Sunday's Game 6 survival and Tuesday's ultimate game against Buffalo. AFTER THE Flyers finished the 2006-2007 season with just 22 victories, many of us took a look at the free-agent pool and made our lists. Scott Gomez was a goal-scorer, a sizable body, a Stanley Cup winner for the Devils. Chris Drury? Who wouldn't want an Olympian, a Stanley Cup champion with Colorado, the heart and soul of an upstart Buffalo Sabres squad that reached the Eastern Conference finals that year? And then there was little Danny Briere, one of the stars in that Sabres run. Too small, wouldn't hold up for any lengthy contract, many said. Would slow down with age. Couldn't do all the little, extra things that Gomez and Drury habitually did, banging bodies, working through checks to

Danny Briere, Mr. Playoffs, wouldn't reveal his source of inspiration. "When the series is over," he said. Briere scored two goals Sunday as the Flyers overcame 2-0 and 3-1 deficits and defeated the Buffalo Sabres in overtime, 5-4, to even the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at three games apiece. Perhaps just important as his two goals was what Briere said to his team after the second period. The Flyers had allowed a goal late in the second and were down, 4-3. Their season was hanging in the balance. In the locker room, Briere "had good words going out for the third period," coach Peter Laviolette said. Danny Briere has played in more Stanley Cup playoff games than any other NHL player since the lockout. He has been this way before. He has been down and out, in a series and a game. He understands the ebbs and flows of playoff hockey. The Flyers' center knows the one compelling truth this time of year: You can't bear to see it end. So before the third period Sunday, with Philly down, 4-3, and 20 minutes from elimination, Briere stood up in the dressing room and told his teammates so. "I'm not ready for it to end," Briere hollered. "It's not time!" Evidently, Briere's teammates were aroused by his talk. Peter Laviolette, the Flyers' dour coach, said he was fired up, too. In a city where he was once revered, Flyers center Danny Briere is getting a big kick out of being booed in Buffalo. "I think it's totally normal. They're cheering for their team," Briere said Tuesday, referring to the welcome he's received from Sabres fans. "And if they're booing me, that means I'm doing something right to get under their skin." In other words, the louder, the better. Four years after the Sabres' former co-captain left Buffalo to sign with the Flyers as a free agent, Briere is showing he hasn't lost his touch in scoring clutch playoff goals. The only difference is he's now doing it for the Flyers, helping them win two straight to secure a 2-1 lead in the first-round

It is quite a culture shock, coming from a cheery, friendly place like Philadelphia to a hard-bitten metropolis like Buffalo. But there it was. Danny Briere, who scored one of the most memorable goals in Sabres history, was shown on the big scoreboard screen at HSBCDEFG Arena Monday night. And rather than get the supportive ovation an expatriate player would surely get from Philadelphians, Briere was rather loudly booed. The horror, the horror. "They booed a few times," Briere said after the Flyers' brief Tuesday practice at HSMSCL Arena. "It's part of the game. I think it's totally normal. They're cheering for their team. If they're booing, that means I'm doing something right. I'm doing

Former linemates and still good friends, Jason Pominville and Danny Briere shook hands after the Flyers-Sabres regular-season game eight days ago and told one another they probably wouldn't be speaking for a while because they'd be busy with the playoffs. "Then we ended up playing each other, so the next time we speak it'll probably be at the handshake," Pominville said Friday after the Sabres worked out in preparation for Saturday's Game 2 of a first-round series against the Flyers. Pominville was alluding to the traditional handshake that follows every NHL playoff series. Hockey's culture pretty much forbids fraternizing during the playoffs, so neither Pominville nor Briere sought each

There was a packed house on the ice here at Virtua Flyers Skate Zone, as three goalies and every skater except for two took part in Thursday's practice. Two of those skaters were Danny Briere and Blair Betts, both of whom are questionable for Friday's game in Buffalo due to lower-body injuries. "I thought they both skated well," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. "As far as what was on the ice, they looked good." Flyers GM Paul Holmgren issued a statement that said Briere is possible for Friday with a lower-body injury, but Briere said as good as he felt during Thursday's on-ice session, he was very positive about getting into Friday's game. Briere was scratched about two hours before

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said after Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Rangers that he expects the club to be without Danny Briere and Blair Betts when it visits Ottawa on Tuesday night. Briere was scratched against New York because of lower-body soreness. In the second period, Betts suffered an unspecified lower-body injury. Of Briere, who has 32 goals and 31 assists in 75 games, Holmgren said: "I don't think he is going to play the next game. We're going to hold him out for precautionary reasons. I would expect him back on Friday," when the Flyers visit Buffalo.

With Tuesday's critical 5-2 victory in Pittsburgh, the Flyers took a major step toward winning the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. They also may have discovered something that will serve them well in the forthcoming Stanley Cup playoffs. Specifically, an adjustment made by the Danny Briere line helped that unit break out of a funk and spark the win. Briere and linemates Scott Hartnell and Ville Leino combined for three goals and four assists and the line was plus-7 as the Flyers moved closer to securing their first Atlantic title since 2003-04. "It was a good feeling, to be honest," Briere said. "The way they played defense, Pittsburgh forced us to change our plan a little bit

Flyers' Briere is heating up as postseason approaches

Flyers forward Danny Briere set a franchise record with 30 playoff points last year (12 goals, 18 assists), and once again, he's getting hot as the postseason nears. Entering Saturday's game at the Nassau Coliseum against the New York Islanders, Briere had nine points (four goals, five assists) in his previous eight games. He began Saturday with 32 goals, the most he has had in his four seasons with the Flyers, surpassing the 31 he had in his first season, 2007-08. Briere has scored at least 30 goals four times in his career. The 32 goals tie a career high he reached twice before. "When things are going well you try to roll with it and keep it going," Briere said before Saturday's game.

Just after returning from the NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh, N.C., in January - undoubtedly one of the highlights of his career - Danny Briere went into a serious slump. Briere posted 26 goals and 19 assists in his first 47 games, prior to Jan. 30. In his first 15 games after the All-Star festivities, which he enjoyed with his sons Caelan, Carson and Cameron by his side, Briere mustered just two goals and four assists. He was so frustrated that he went back and looked at video to compare his play to the beginning of the season. And he didn't like what he saw. "You always go through tougher stretches in a season,'' Briere said. "You think you're working the right way, but you start watching

The Flyers' most productive line - Danny Briere centering wingers Ville Leino and Scott Hartnell - has been ineffective the last several weeks, but coach Peter Laviolette has refused to break up the unit. Despite a minus-22 rating in their last 16 games, the line was intact for Tuesday's game against visiting Edmonton. "We get another chance tonight and it's a good thing for us," Leino said before the game. "He's letting us play together even though we're not producing as well. . . . This is a chance to do something about it." Heading into Tuesday, Leino had three goals in his last 19 games, Hartnell had two goals in his last 16 games, and Briere had two goals in his last 15 games. Because

Now that the All-Star Game is history, forwards Claude Giroux and Danny Briere are focused on putting the finishing touches on the Flyers' so-far-superb season. "We had a little meeting before we left, and I think it's important that our guys get some rest," said Giroux, who scored his first all-star goal and also contributed an assist in his team's 11-10 loss. "There's not one guy who's not excited about the rest of the season. . . . When you have that run, like last year, you just get more hungry. We were so close last year, and it just makes you want more." The Flyers, losers to Chicago in last year's Stanley Cup Finals, are No. 1 in the 30-team NHL. "We've put ourselves in a really

For one afternoon, at least, NHL stood for the No Hitting League as the 58th All-Star Game showcased its best players at the RBC Center. With a loud, mostly red-clad crowd watching, defense was a rumor as Team Lidstrom, co-coached by the Flyers' Peter Laviolette, overcame an early four-goal deficit and outlasted Team Staal, 11-10. The Flyers' Danny Briere had two goals to aid the winners, while Claude Giroux, who played a game-low 13 minutes, 16 seconds on a team coached by Chicago's Joel Quenneville, had a goal and an assist in a losing cause. High-scoring forwards Danny Briere and Claude Giroux, Flyers teammates and Haddonfield housemates, hoped to be chosen for the same all-star team when the sides were selected Friday night at the Raleigh Convention Center. They didn't get their wish. Team Lidstrom took Briere in the sixth round of the 18-round draft, while Giroux went to Team Staal in the 13th round. The All-Star Game is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. at the RBC Center. Giroux said "it would have been nice" to be on Briere's team, but he "can't wait for the game." He also issued a good-natured warning to Briere. "I told him to keep his head up, because you never know what's going to happen," cracked Giroux, 23, a first-time

Daniel Brière is at peace with himself, and that's good news for the Philadelphia Flyers. Last season, the 33-year-old centre from Gatineau struggled through one of the worst regular seasons of his career, getting only 26 goals and 27 assists in 75 games. It was a season that mirrored the season the Flyers had, struggling before making the playoffs on the final day of the season. But in the playoffs, Brière caught fire. He led the league in scoring with 12 goals and 18 assists — the most ever for a Flyer in the playoffs — and he has continued that hot pace this season. Playing with playoff linemates Scott Hartnell and Ville Leino, he leads the Flyers with 24 goals and 17 assists in 43

Some may consider it vindication that Danny Briere is going to the All-Star Game after all. He prefers to look at it as the chance to keep a promise he made to his children several years ago. The Flyers' centerman, yesterday, was added to next weekend's lineup in place of Calgary's Jarome Iginla, who will miss the festivities in order to spend time with his ailing grandmother. Briere's addition allows the league to silence the outcry wondering how the leading scorer on the NHL's top overall team was not one of its All-Stars. "There's politics involved," Briere shrugged. "That's what I was told and I understand how it is sometimes. There are things you can't understand, I was told, and

Briere said he felt he was originally overlooked because of "politics" but added that he held no grudge - and that he was thrilled to be added to the team because he can bring his three boys to the Jan. 30 game in Raleigh, N.C. "I'm really excited for the chance to take my kids to it," said Briere, whose sons are 9, 11, and 12. "They're at a prime age for these types of things. Flyers center Danny Briere was fined but not suspended Monday night for taking a swipe at Rangers forward Brandon Prust in the final seconds of the Flyers' 3-2 win Sunday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. In the waning seconds of the Flyers' victory, their sixth in seven games, Prust drove Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen hard into the boards with a blindside hit that was borderline late. Replays show that as Prust passed the Flyers bench, Briere and Scott Hartnell took swipes at him, grazing him in the head before linesman Jean Morin escorted Prust to the bench. IT SOUNDS like a sitcom. It would make a helluva reality show. "Three boys, two dogs and two hockey players," I said to Danny Briere after Flyers practice yesterday. "Whaddaya think?" "Five hockey players," Briere corrected. "The kids play, too. There's not a day of the week when there's no hockey. Every single day of the week, there's at least one practice." That's in addition to getting his three young sons to and from school, feeding and walking Zoey the bulldog and Zora the Boston terrier, and keeping Briere's large South Jersey house, which he held on to after splitting with his wife last year, tidy. So why would Claude Giroux, 23-year-old bachelor and budding star, want in on that?

The Flyers and New York Rangers meet three more times this year, and you don't have to be a Fred Shero descendant to realize there might be a parade to the penalty box in those games. On Sunday, the Rangers' Sean Avery sucker-punched Matt Carle during the Flyers' 3-2 win. Later in the game, Flyers enforce Jody Shelley tried to draw Avery into a fight. Avery refused. "But this will all iron itself out," Shelley, a former Ranger, said after Monday's practice in Voorhees. In other words, the three rematches _ Feb. 20 and March 6 in New York, and April 3 in Philly _ should be a little, um, entertaining. The Flyers are not pals with Avery or his teammate, Brandon Prust, who took several
