Nuggets, Danilo Gallinari haunted by Game 7 fright night
May 15
Denver Post
columnist Mark Kiszla
"
Too angry and embarrassed to sleep, Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari must stare down a tough question: Did the pain of his NBA playoff experience help him grow, or expose him as a performer who shrinks in big moments? Ever seen a 6-foot-10 man disappear? Gallinari did in Game 7 against the Lakers, when he committed four turnovers but scored only a single basket, as Los Angeles knocked Denver from the opening round. Gallo was a zero. The hurt left an emotional scar. You could feel his humiliation from here to his native Italy.
"
Time for Nuggets to let Ty Lawson, Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried run wild
April 16
Denver Post
columnist Mark Kiszla
"
The future can't wait for the Nuggets. It is time for coach George Karl to realize: Wherever this young NBA team is going, Ty Lawson, Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried will lead the way. Let the young guns play, Coach. Lawson, Gallinari and Faried can't learn how to be stars on the bench. Win or lose for the remainder of the season, the primary goal for Denver should be the development of its Big Three. The isn't the time for the Nuggets to win a championship. Now is the time to get Lawson, Gallinari and Faried at least 30 minutes of playing time every night.

Danilo Gallinari needs to step it up in battle for playoffs
April 15
Denver Post
"
There was no Gallo flow, though that might have been thwarted by his recovering fractured thumb or by Metta World Peace. Either way, the Nuggets' Danilo Gallinari scored just seven points in Friday's 103-97 loss at the Lakers. The guy who averages 15.1 points per game didn't play at all in the fourth quarter as coach George Karl opted for the defensive-minded Corey Brewer at small forward. "Corey Brewer was playing great," Karl said. "He didn't score a point but was playing fantastic. We were in the game with Corey's energy defensively. I thought we were getting back in the game, and I wasn't going to change it."

Nuggets coach George Karl hopes to have Danilo Gallinari back in lineup soon
March 29
Denver Post
"
So, when is Danilo Gallinari coming back? That's the question Nuggets fans are asking, as the budding star remains sidelined with a left thumb fracture. "I don't think it's going to be this week, but we'll try to push him sometime next week to get on the practice court and then push it a little bit more," Nuggets coach George Karl said Wednesday. "We have a couple of practice days (between the games Sunday and Wednesday), so that's what we're shooting for."

With Gallo and Miller out, and a playoff spot up for grabs, the Nuggets preach accountability
March 21
Denver Post
"
The towels were terrible. Nuggets president Josh Kroenke recently told a story about accountability within the organization. "Al Harrington held us accountable because he felt the towels in the locker room were too old," Kroenke said. "So we made sure we got new towels." It was a lighthearted story, but Kroenke used it as an example to show the value of accountability — from top to bottom and bottom to top. "It's things like that," Kroenke said, "where we're all communicating, making sure we're on the same page and making sure we're doing the best, as a group, to make the organization the best it can be."

Nuggets lose to Dallas Mavericks; Gallinari fractures non-shooting thumb
March 20
Denver Post
"
Man. Dirk just went all Dirk on Denver. Monday night against the Mavericks, Denver seemingly threw everyone on Dirk Nowitzki except assistant coach Ryan Bowen, who might have done better than some of the Nuggets. Nowitzki scored a game-high 33 points (in just 31 minutes) as Denver fell at home 112-95. The Mavericks (27-20) shot 53.6 percent for the game. For goodness sakes, they had 92 points after three quarters, 36 field goals on 29 assists. Oh, and remember how the Nuggets (25-21) — finally — didn't have any injuries? In the third quarter, forward Danilo Gallinari was spotted holding his hand after attempting to block an Ian Mahinmi layup attempt. Gallo then went to the locker room

Nuggets rally behind Gallinari, Nene to beat Atlanta 118-117 in OT
March 14
Denver Post
"
There's an old line about how to win in basketball — it's not about X's and O's as much as Jimmies and Joes. But not, it seems, Zazas. The Atlanta coaching staff drew up a beautiful X's and O's play with 2.2 seconds left Tuesday night, but Zaza Pachulia missed an open layup in the final ticks of overtime and the Nuggets escaped with a 118-117 victory at the Pepsi Center. On the final play, Denver zeroed in on Hawks star Joe Johnson. After a pick pushed Arron Afflalo out of the play, Al Harrington picked up Johnson. But with the ball being inbounded from under the basket, somehow Pachuliua slipped into the lane untouched, until Danilo Gallinari spotted Zaza.
"
Nuggets trying to cure Danilo Gallinari's slump
March 13
Denver Post
"
The old men were so ancient that — gasp! — they were in their late 30s. But Chris Mullin and Sam Perkins were, to be fair, almost twice the age of 18-year-old rookie Al Harrington on the 1998-99 Indiana Pacers. After the Nuggets' practice Monday, Harrington was asked about teammate Danilo Gallinari's shooting slump. Harrington promptly quoted the two elderly sages who advised him in his younger years. "They'd say: 'Keep shooting. You're only one shot away from being on fire,' " Harrington said. "You make one, feel good about yourself, the next one will go down, and you'll be back to being yourself."

Monday return for Nuggets F Danilo Gallinari?

When dealing with the massive amounts of missed games because of an injury that takes its time to heal, it has always helped Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari to stay optimistic. "Always," he said. "Being optimistic helps recover faster."

Nuggets' Gallinari hopes to return soon after break
February 20
Denver Post
"
The original timetable for Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari's return to the team was a month, and he remains on schedule, he said Sunday night. "I feel better," he said. Gallinari, who missed his seventh consecutive game, has begun doing some bike work "to get cardio going," he said, "but not more than that." Still, he's optimistic that he can to return to the team after the all-star break. "It's hard to tell, but I think I'll probably be back after all-star," Gallinari said. "That's what we're thinking."

Nuggets lose Danilo Gallinari for four weeks with "significant" ankle sprain
February 8
Denver Post
"
The NBA's feel-good team is just that — a team. Seven players have led the Nuggets in scoring — and seven players have led the Nuggets in rebounding. "We play together, we run, we have fun," Rudy Fernandez saidTuesday. But any way you slice it, losing Danilo Gallinari hurts. Denver's top scorer said Tuesday he likely will miss a month because of a left ankle sprain suffered Monday night against Houston. X-rays also found a chip fracture in his left foot, but that was an injury doctors determined happened before Gallinari ever played professional basketball.
"
Nuggets' Gallinari could miss up to month with ankle injury
February 7
Denver Post
"
The Nuggets' top scorer Danilo Gallinari could miss at least a month, after X-rays found a chip fracture in his left foot, according to coach George Karl. Gallo will remain in a walking boot for three to five days. Treatment will be for a significant ankle sprain. Today's MRI determined that the chip was from an injury from before Gallinari played basketball. It could have been worse. In late January, the Bucks' Andrew Bogut suffered a similar injury to Gallinari - landing on his left ankle and fracturing it. Bogut is out for 8-12 weeks.

Short-handed Nuggets lose at home to Rockets; Danilo Gallinari injured
February 7
Denver Post
"
Four starters injured. A key backup away from the team. Then the backup center, who made a start, fouled out. The Nuggets were short-handed Monday night against Houston at the Pepsi Center, but they trailed by only four points with 1:21 left before losing 99-90 to the Rockets. The Nuggets (15-10) also might have lost Danilo Gallinari, who suffered a sprained left ankle during the third quarter. X-rays revealed a chip fracture in the foot. Gallinari will have a CT scan today.

Nuggets dominate in L.A. as Gallinari, Lawson lead the way
February 3
Denver Post
"
Lob City was more like a library. In Thursday's fourth quarter, with the Clippers trailing by 20, they tried to pull out all the stops during a timeout — the pump-up music, the T-shirt tosses, the dance team jumping up and down — and the residents of said city were quiet, as if they were studying for finals. How about those Nuggets? Denver had lost two straight, including the first one to these very Clippers on Sunday, but on Thursday they slapped around the home team, 112-91, defeating Chris Paul and Blake Griffin on the day both were named all-star starters.

Denver Nuggets extend contracts of Danilo Gallinari, Kosta Koufos
January 26
Denver Post
"
There he was this month, his stoic Fellini-film face, his squared shoulders, his feet tap dancing on the hardwood as he stayed torso to torso with LeBron, with Kobe, with Melo. It's unclear whether Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari ever will be a one-name star, but the symbolism of his defensive dedication is clear — he wants to challenge the best. Gallinari, 23, is having a breakout season on both ends of the court. So the Nuggets locked him up Wednesday for the next four seasons. Gallinari's acceptance of a $42 million-plus contract extension shows that the Denver front office believes what coach George Karl has said, that Gallo could be an NBA all-star someday.
"
Gallinari helps Nuggets rout Kings; Ty Lawson sprains his left ankle
January 26
Denver Post
"
On a day when the Nuggets took major steps toward solidifying what they feel is a strong, talented young nucleus of players, the need for such depth was underscored. The Nuggets may be without a third young star as point guard Ty Lawson sprained his left ankle midway through the second quarter of a 122-93 destruction of the Kings at the Power Balance Pavilion on Wednesday night. The Nuggets scored a franchise-record 92 points in the paint. "I thought our passing tonight was spectacular," said Nuggets coach George Karl. "We were getting a lot of easy baskets underneath the defense."
"
Nuggets, Gallinari agree to 4-year extension for $42 million
January 25
Denver Post
"
Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari has agreed to a four-year contract extension. The 23-year-old small forward will make close to $42 million in that four year span, a league source told The Denver Post. The deal signifies Denver's dedication to building around a young nucleus, the same nucleus that was handed the keys after Denver traded Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups 13 months ago. "It was easy to say 'Yes' to this contract," Gallinari said at today's Nuggets shootaround. "It's very nice because we've been playing very well. We have a lot of very good young guys, very unselfish players and I'm looking forward to play with this team this year and with a lot of the guys in the next few

Gallinari's game vs. Melo reveals his full potential
January 23
Denver Post
"
It was just one night — one statement-making, magical, memorable night, but, yes, just one night. Still, there was Denver's Danilo Gallinari, out-Meloing Melo. "It's always great to match up against a superstar," Gallinari said, "because you always want to improve yourself and play against the best — to see what is your limit." The basket-bulldozing Gallinari scored a career-high 37 points in Saturday's double overtime win against the Knicks and Carmelo Anthony, the player and team he was traded for (in part) last February. "Gallo," Nuggets coach George Karl said, "has a quiet confidence to him."

Gallinari shines
January 22
New York Post
"
This is who the Knicks thought Danilo Gallinari would be. Returning to Madison Square Garden for the first time since February's trade to the Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony, the former Knicks' first-round pick showed all that had once been envisioned of him, leading the Nuggets to a 119-114 double overtime win with a career-high 37 points and 11 rebounds. "Gallo has a quiet confidence to him," Denver coach George Karl said. "I could actually tell he was looking forward to this game. I think he enjoyed playing here, and I think he was somewhat disappointed to be traded, but now it's time to move on and build his career in a positive way in being a Denver Nugget."

Nuggets' Danilo Gallinari: Go-to player good to go this season
December 19
Denver Post
"
Leggy ladies and guys squeezed into skin-tight shirts. Flowing hair and fedoras. The Big Shots, a European pop trio, wearing T-shirts that say "MADE IN ITALY" — with a red X over the E. The music video for "Party Start-Party Stop," this infectious Italian import, is a trip (and a YouTube must-see item), if only for the occasional shots of a tall dude dancing. "That was dancing?" Nuggets assistant coach Chad Iske asked. It was Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari, Denver's Italian import, showing off his fancy footwork.
"
Danilo Gallinari a bench player? (In Italy, not in Denver!)
December 9
Denver Post
"
Danilo Gallinari is a budding star in the NBA and a superstar in his native Italy, but he only started a couple games this fall because his coach in Milan figured the lockout would end – and the coach wanted to his starters to bond on the court. "It was a little bit (weird) — I wasn't used to it, but it was for the good of the team," the Nuggets forward said this afternoon at Pepsi Center, where he worked out on the practice court for the first time since the lockout was lifted. "It was a great experience – I'm from Milan, so I was playing at home in a great atmosphere. It was a really good situation for me. … I'm happy to be back, see the guys, the trainers, everybody in the office. It

Nuggets' Gallinari close to signing with Italian team
September 20
Denver Post
"
Danilo Gallinari, the young Nuggets' forward, is close to signing a contract with Olimpia Milano, an Italian pro team, a source said Tuesday morning. There will be an out-clause in his contract, the source said, meaning that if the NBA lockout ends, Gallinari can leave his Italian team and return to the Nuggets.
"
Gallinari might look at Europe?
July 6
CBSSports.com
"
Another day, another NBA player maybe, sort of, kind of thinking about playing in Europe. Danilo Gallinari told Sportando that he "couldn't rule out" at least a short run in Europe. Of course Gallinari is from Italy and spent the early part of his professional career playing in Europe. But like any other NBA player currently under contract, Gallinari can't just pack up and sign with a European club. FIBA has yet to clear anyone under contract in the NBA and would be risking his contract with the Nuggets if he were injured.

Gallinari may return Friday at Orlando
March 15
Denver Post
"
Remember Danilo Gallinari? The Nuggets are being extremely cautious about the new Nugget, who hasn't played since Feb. 25 at Portland because of a fractured big toe. And it's becoming more likely that he'll miss Wednesday at Atlanta, returning Friday at Orlando. Also, Arron Afflalo didn't play Monday against the Hornets. He rested his injured hamstring suffered March 5. It's unclear if he'll play Wednesday. He went through an intense workout Monday morning at shootaround. Wilson Chandler continues to start at small forward, while rookie Gary Forbes has been the shooting guard with Afflalo out. "We're not going to run any plays for Gary — he's a no-nonsense offensive player who's got to

Forward Gallinari and guard Arron Afflalo missed Saturday's game against the Pistons with injuries. For Gallinari, it was the fifth consecutive game he's missed with a fractured toe. It was Afflalo's second consecutive missed game because of a strained hamstring. While both are healing and expected back soon, Karl isn't exactly sure when.

Danilo Gallinari still out with toe injury
March 8
Denver Post
"
Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari said Monday his fractured left big toe likely won't heal fast enough to allow him to play this week. The Nuggets starting small forward said he's hoping to return to action next week. "It's better. Wer'e definitely not ready yet to play, but it's getting better," Gallinari said, following Nuggets practice Monday afternoon. "It's a process, and it's good that it's getting better." Initial estimates said Gallinari would miss 7-10 days with the injury, but it now appears it will take longer. Gallinari played in two games after being traded to the Nuggets from New York but has missed the last four. He hurt the toe on Feb. 25 at Portland. This new timetable

Injury won't' cost Gallinari many games
March 4
Denver Post
"
It's possible new Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari won't play for another seven days — but don't fret. Denver plays at the Clippers on Saturday, but then they don't play again until next Thursday at Phoenix. So, the injured forward (fractured left big toe) won't play at L.A. but could very well return in the following game at Phoenix. The last time Denver fans saw Gallo, he scored 30 points in the overtime loss at Portland. Nuggets coach George Karl, spoiled with so many rotation players, said Gallinari "creates a jam at small forward and power forward, and without him we don't have that jam, so Wilson (Chandler) will get most of the minutes at the three and Kenyon (Martin) and Al

Nuggets' Gallinari out 7-10 days with injured toe
March 1
Denver Post
"
In the afterglow of the Nuggets' win over Atlanta on Monday night came the sobering news that forward Danilo Gallinari will miss extended time with a toe injury. Gallinari, who scored 30 points in the Nuggets' loss at Portland on Friday night, suffered a nondisplaced fracture in his left big toe. The diagnosis wasn't made until after X-rays were taken Monday night. He will miss seven to 10 days, according to the team. Wilson Chandler, who stepped into the starting small forward role in Gallinari's absence and scored 15 points with five rebounds, doesn't think the Nuggets will miss a beat.

Gallo could replace Melo for Nuggets

Gallo gallops. He runs the court like a thoroughbred (the Italian stallion?), his long strides and fortified frame charging toward defenders daring enough to draw a charge. All Friday night, Danilo Gallinari, the guy they call "Gallo," was eccellente. In the Nuggets' overtime loss at Portland, the 6-foot-10 Italian scored a game-high 30 points, one off his career high. These first couple of games with the new Nuggets are like the first couple of dates in a relationship. Nuggets fans (and coaches and players) aren't sure what to make of these people, but each night, they're learning something new. And liking it. Danilo Gallinari was 15 the first time Nuggets executive Masai Ujiri saw him play in Europe. His most impressive basketball skill was his handle. "He's always been a very skilled ball handler. At one point, everybody thought he was going to be a point guard." I know, I know. You've heard it before. Perhaps no town in America is more skeptical of the big Euro than Denver. There was the Skita disaster, of course, followed by the Darko near-miss a year later when only Joe Dumars and the spirit of giving prevented the Nuggets from

Ex-Knicks Are Eager to Strut Their Stuff
February 24
New York Times

There is always another side to a trade. For the four former Knicks - Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Timofey Mozgov - it came in the shadows of the elation and expectations of the Knicks' acquisition of Carmelo Anthony, and also at their expense. Felton and Chandler's final public act as Knicks was ducking reporters and leaving through a side door at Monday's practice. Mozgov and Gallinari addressed reporters, but the 3-team, 13-player deal had yet to be agreed upon. The four players had stoked interest in the Knicks in different ways. Each is 26 or younger.

The relationship with Devin Harris seems damaged beyond repair, and the Nets have been exploring different ways to ship out the most accomplished player on their roster. At least one proposal is based on the Knicks finalizing a deal with Denver. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Nets, Nuggets and Mavericks have discussed a three-way deal that would return Harris to Dallas and send former Knicks Raymond Felton and Timofey Mozgov to the Nets. According to a source, the Nets are also trying to pry Danilo Gallinari from the Nuggets and point guard Aaron Brooks from the Rockets. Gallinari was traded to Denver last night in the long-delayed deal for Carmelo Anthony. A Knick for all of his three-year career and someone who has known coach Mike D'Antoni for years, Gallinari was Donnie Walsh's first draft pick as team president in 2008. Carmelo Anthony is coming home, and that could mean that Donnie Walsh is leaving. James Dolan pulled the trigger Monday night on a blockbuster deal for Anthony, the Brooklyn-born All-Star forward and former Syracuse standout, who for months was angling for an opportunity to join forces with Amar'e Stoudemire in New York. It's all part of the Knicks' ambitious plan to eventually add either Chris Paul or Deron Williams next year and give the club its own Big Three to compete against Miami and Boston. Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash. Anthony will go to New York, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.

Even if the New Jersey Nets do not acquire Carmelo Anthony, they still might pull off a trade with the Denver Nuggets, one that would likely be a sore spot for their cross-river rivals in New York, according to high-ranking league officials. If the New York Knicks send Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler and Timofey Mozgov to Denver for Anthony, the Nets are in discussions to then acquire either Gallinari, Felton or Chandler plus Mozgov for two first-round draft picks. That deal is obviously contingent upon the Knicks trading all those players to Denver for a package headlined by Anthony and Chauncey Billups. The Nets remain confident that they can acquire Anthony before the

Take it or leave it, Denver. League sources said the Knicks, still feeling good they can complete a trade for Carmelo Anthony, would not budge yesterday, feeling adding anything more to their offer would be overpayment. The Nuggets, however, want rookie center Timofey Mozgov added to the package, but it isn't a deal-breaker. As it stands, the Knicks would send point guard Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, and a 2014 first-round pick to the Nuggets. They would also send Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph and $3 million to Minnesota, who would send Corey Brewer and either Memphis or Utah's 2011 first-round pick to Denver. The Knicks would receive Anthony, Chauncey Billups and

Nuggets close in on deal to send Melo to Knicks

The Nuggets appear to be closing in on a deal to trade star forward Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks. The teams talked through the weekend and are working out the final details of what would be a blockbuster trade. NBA commissioner David Stern did not want a major trade announced on the day of the All-Star Game. While final details were still being negotiated, the latest trade offer includes New York sending guard Raymond Felton, forwards Wilson Chand-ler and Danilo Gallinari, centers Timofey Mozgov and Eddy Curry and a first-round draft pick to the Nuggets for Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams and Anthony Carter or Renaldo Balkman, according to NBA sources. After a slow start to the Carmelo Anthony trade saga Saturday, things picked up again by the end of the night. Although Anthony has given no indication he will sign the three-year, $65 million contract extension with the Nuggets to make the deal with the Nets, New Jersey was able to put in a last-ditch effort late Saturday night. According to a source, owner Mikhail Prokhorov was expected to meet with Anthony to try to sell him on signing the extension to play with the Nets, despite denials earlier in the day that a meeting would take place. The Nets' deal is Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Ben Uzoh, Troy Murphy and four first-round picks to the Nuggets. The Nuggets would send Anthony,

Denver's asking price for Carmelo Anthony is more outlandish than previously thought. The Post has learned the Nuggets made a whopping demand one week ago that is more exorbitant than recent reports. According to a league source debriefed on Carmelo Anthony negotiations, Denver asked for Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Landry Fields, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov and a first-round pick (obtained via Anthony Randolph) for Anthony and point guard Chauncey Billups. Yes, it looks like the Nuggets demanded everything but James Dolan's Radio City Music Hall. The Knicks management was flabbergasted, according to the league source. They fear such a proposal meant they really didn't want to do

Parameters set, but complicated Carmelo deal far from close

The parameters have been set in the talks between the Knicks and Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks are willing to part with Wilson Chandler or Danilo Gallinari and a source with knowledge of the situation said that including a Raymond Felton-Chauncey Billups swap would not be a deal-breaker. The issue at hand is the precarious decision to complete a blockbuster deal that involves even more players, perhaps rookies Timofey Mozgov and Landry Fields, and dramatically jumbles the roster, the starting lineup and the rotation with 28 games left -- and very little time for practice -- after the Feb. 24 trade deadline. The Knicks have one game left, Wednesday against the Hawks, before the

Carmelo Anthony could have been a Knick Monday if only team president Donnie Walsh were willing to meet Denver's trade demands, which one team official classified as "steep." According to a team source close to the negotiations, "there is a deal to be made" but whether Anthony joins forces with Amar'e Stoudemire in New York between Tuesday and the Feb. 24 trade deadline likely comes down to the Nuggets either lowering their asking price or the Knicks turning over their roster to acquire one of the NBA's top players. The Nuggets, according to a source, are asking for three starters - including Danilo Gallinari and Raymond Felton - plus Eddy Curry's expiring contract and at least one

Gallo revs it up against Pistons
January 31
New York Post
"
As he was walking out of the press conference room, having not talked about Danilo Gallinari at all, Mike D'Antoni, unsolicited, had a parting observation. "Probably played his best game he played all year," D'Antoni said of his small forward. Gallinari was brilliant in last night's 124-106 victory over the Pistons at Madison Square Garden, pumping in 29 points — on only 12 shots. He hit seven of them, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and nailed all 11 free throw attempts. Gallinari added five rebounds and paced everybody in the building with 11 fourth-quarter points. It's the third time in the last five games that Gallinari reached the 20-point barrier. In those five, he's

Gallinari: It's time for Knicks to turn up Heat
January 26
New York Post
"
The Knicks snapped their six-game losing streak Monday night with a 115-106 win over the Wizards. But to start a winning streak, the Knicks will have to beat the Heat at the Garden tomorrow night -- something they already have failed to do twice this season. "It's gonna be an important game for us, because we've played them two times and lost both times," Danilo Gallinari said after Monday's game. "We want to get to the next level, and to get to the next level we've got to play really good games against these guys." Gallinari said the biggest thing keeping the Knicks from reaching that next level has been consistency. "We've got to be more consistent," he said. "We have to play the same

No Carmelo Anthony-Nets meeting set

An NBA luminary. A hip-hop legend. A Russian billionaire. The largest trade in NBA history. You can't make this stuff up. The seemingly never-ending Carmelo Anthony trade talks had more twists and turns Monday. And the Nuggets didn't even practice, or have a game. Multiple sources said there is no meeting currently set up for billionaire Nets owner Mikhail Prok-horov and Jay-Z to sit down with Anthony, a meeting that NBA.com reported would happen. It's still possible Prokhorov could fly to Denver any day this week and try to convince Anthony to sign a three-year contract extension to facilitate a trade. A source with knowledge of the Nuggets' strategy said Monday that the team is prepared

In victories over the Suns, Spurs and Trail Blazers, the Knicks missed Danilo Gallinari about as much as most divorced people miss their ex-spouses. But in losses to the Lakers and Kings — in which they produced their two lowest field goal percentages of the season — if not the shot-fest they lost in Utah, they missed him a little like Denver will miss Carmelo Anthony when he's gone to … still to be determined. However, pending anything unexpected overnight after he undertook his first practice Sunday since spraining his left knee Jan. 2, Gallinari will return for today's Martin Luther King Day matinee rematch against the Suns. And start, coach Mike D'Antoni said, with Ronny Turiaf, one of

Danilo Gallinari is back, so now the Knicks are just waiting on Eddy Curry. All joking aside, Gallinari said he will return to the lineup today when the Knicks host the Suns at the Garden, and end his two weeks on the shelf with a sprained left knee. "I'm feeling good," said Gallinari, who practiced with the first team yesterday. "I want to get back as soon as possible and it will be [today]. I feel a little bit of discomfort but I have to live with it. When you're in the game and you have adrenaline going on and the concentration, you have no [pain]." It's a relatively quick return from an injury originally feared to be much worse, and it comes at a perfect time for the Knicks, who need

Two weeks removed from when his season flashed before his eyes, Danilo Gallinari still hasn't looked at the video of Indiana's Brandon's Rush driving the lane and falling into the Knick forward's left knee. "They told me it didn't look good and that everybody was surprised that it was just a sprain," Gallinari said Sunday. "I probably will watch it in a couple of years. Not now." Gallinari feels lucky that he had to miss only six games, during which the Knicks went 3-3. Monday he'll be back in the starting lineup when the Knicks host the Phoenix Suns in their traditional Garden game honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gallinari has been mentioned in a potential deal with Denver

Danilo Gallinari likely to return for Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. Day game vs. Suns

The stumbling Knicks could get a much-needed offensive jolt from a sweet-shooting small forward Monday. No, that doesn't mean that New York is suddenly the favorite in the increasingly muddled Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes. But the Knicks are likely to get their own talented swingman, Danilo Gallinari, back for Monday's game against Phoenix at the Garden, as long as everything goes according to plan Sunday. Gallinari, who suffered a mild sprain of his left knee early this month, is expected to practice Sunday with the team in Greenburgh. As long as the forward feels no extra soreness Monday, he'll return to the lineup. "He should be ready (for Monday)," coach Mike D'Antoni said on Friday.
