Dallas Clark News & Rumors

Colts' Clark, Eldridge suffer possible season-ending injuries
"What wouldn't qualify as one of Dallas Clark's better seasons might have taken a turn for the worse Sunday, when the Indianapolis Colts veteran tight end suffered an injury to his lower left leg. The situation is more acutely critical because Brody Eldridge suffered a hand injury, leaving Jacob Tamme the lone healthy tight end on the roster. "They're still being evaluated, some MRIs and things of that nature but in both cases, both guys have sustained pretty significant injuries," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Monday. "What I mean by that is more than a week.""
Dallas Clark 'happy' with progress
"Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark is still working to rehabilitate ligaments that were surgically repaired in his right wrist in the middle of last season. He's just doing it in a different place now. With the NFL's lockout of players, Clark said he's moved his recovery work from the team facility to a local sports medicine center in Indianapolis. "It's different, we're cut off from that," he said. "But I've got a great setup working at St. Vincent Sports Medicine and they have a great rehab and training facility, they pretty much do everything. I did the first six weeks of my rehab out in Tempe, Ariz. ... I just needed to get back home and everything's been great.""
Colts TE Dallas Clark recovering well from wrist surgery
"The rehabilitation is far from complete. As Dallas Clark bounced from one radio station to another Friday morning at the NFL media hotel, he greeted well-wishers with an extended left hand. The right wrist of the Indianapolis Colts' record-setting tight end was safely out of harm's way, usually tucked in a pocket of his slacks. Scars on both sides of the wrist served as reminders of the surgery Clark had in October to repair a displaced tendon. "My rehab is really going well," Clark said. "I've been out of the cast for about two weeks now and we haven't had any setbacks." He flexed his left hand and rotated his left wrist, then tried to do the same with the right. There was a noticeable"
Dallas Clark recovering well from wrist surgery
"In a report posted on ESPN's AFC South blog, Colts tight end Dallas Clark says he's recovering well from wrist surgery and had his cast removed a few weeks ago. "It's doing better. It's a long, long process," Clark is quoted as saying on the blog. "I was in a cast for three months. Got out of that mid-January, now I've been rehabbing ever since. It's doing great, it's just taking time to get range of motion, strength and all that back to it." Clark sustained the season-ending wrist injury Oct. 17 during a game against the Washington Redskins. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve the next week. He finished the season with 37 catches, 347 yards and 3 TDs."
Clark's injury unleashes Colts' secret weapon: backup tight end Tamme
"Jacob Tamme has caught more passes for more yards than any other NFL tight end this November, and there's a reason: He had to. "This is a position in our offense that has to make plays," Tamme said. It has been a remarkable breakout for a special teams specialist who caught six passes and made a single start in his first 21/2 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Going into a Sunday date at New England, Tamme has caught 24 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns in three starts this month. He is playing in place of Dallas Clark, who out of the Colts' "Y-back" position last season became the second tight end in NFL history to catch 100 passes. Clark is out for the season after surgery for a"
Replacing Dallas Clark? Sorry, that's not possible
"Almost without fail, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning spends part of his postgame post-mortems talking about the ways opponents try to take away tight end Dallas Clark. They play nickel (five defensive backs) or dime (six DBs). They double-cover him, using a linebacker and a defensive end, or another unusual pairing of defensive players. Some clubs have tried straitjackets and cluster bombs, with varying levels of success. Since Clark emerged as one of the league's most dynamic weapons three or four years ago, defenses have spent the week leading up to Colts games saying, "We've got to make Dallas Clark disappear." Well, Clark has disappeared, courtesy of a season-ending wrist"
Clark's versatility will be missed
"The Indianapolis Colts lost more than a Pro Bowl tight end Friday, when the team announced Dallas Clark will undergo wrist surgery to repair a displaced tendon next week and be placed on injured reserve. They lost a singularly versatile and effective one. Only two tight ends in NFL history have caught 100 passes in a season. Clark did it last season when he had 100 receptions for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had so hoped to avoid having this injury end his season, he consulted three specialists before accepting the prescribed course of treatment. "All three have helped me and my family out tremendously during this process," he said in a statement. "I look forward to"
Dallas Clark out for the season
"Dallas Clark's season is over. The Indianapolis Colts' Pro Bowl tight end will undergo wrist surgery next week and be placed on injured reserve. Clark consulted with three specialists after suffering the injury, a displaced tendon, during the final minutes of the Colts' victory at Washington on Sunday. "It's unfortunate, but it's been confirmed that surgery is necessary to repair the injury to my wrist," Clark said in a statement issued by the team. "All three (surgeons) have helped me and my family out tremendously during this process. I look forward to supporting my teammates the rest of this season and rehabilitating my wrist back to full strength for next season.""
Polian: Dallas Clark out indefinitely
"Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark will be out indefinitely with a hand/wrist injury team president Bill Polian has confirmed. Polian spoke this morning at a CEO Forum at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, where he told the audience: "He's got an injury to his wrist, which is a relatively rare injury. He's visiting a doctor in Cleveland today. He's due to come in and talk late this afternoon when he gets back and I get back. I don't know what the prognosis is. This is not the kind of injury that is very common where our doctors can say 'Hey, look, this is a four-week injury or this is a six-week injury.' "So we'll know more later tonight." Colts coach Jim Caldwell also"
Sources: Dallas Clark out indefinitely
"Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl tight end Dallas Clark has a hand/wrist injury that will sideline him indefinitely, sources close to the situation said Wednesday. The length of Clark's absence is uncertain, as is the exact nature of his injury. "He's being evaluated," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Wednesday when asked about Clark's injury."
Dallas Clark: I'll be ready
"Dallas Clark's preseason has been reduced to "mental repetitions" and rehabilitation after he suffered an injury to his left leg in training camp. Although the injury might result in Clark missing all four preseason games, the Indianapolis Colts' Pro Bowl tight end vowed to be ready for the Sept. 12 regular-season opener at Houston. "The good thing is it's making improvement and, worst-case scenario, I'll definitely be there for Week 1," Clark said Monday. "That's a reassuring thing." Neither the team nor Clark would address the nature of the injury. "I don't think it's been mentioned," Clark said, "so I don't want to be the guy to let the cat out of the bag." Clark hasn't returned to"
8 Colts ruled out of game against 49ers
"The Indianapolis Colts have ruled eight players out of Sunday's preseason opener with the San Francisco 49ers in Lucas Oil Stadium, and there might be more. Coach Jim Caldwell said the chances of safety Bob Sanders playing "are slim.'' It's also possible defensive end Dwight Freeney and receiver Anthony Gonzalez will be held out of the game. Sanders participated in this morning's light workout at Anderson University, but Freeney and Gonzalez were among several players who did not. The list of players who will not play consists of tight end Dallas Clark, defensive tackle Keyunta Dawson, wide receiver Pierre Garcon, linebackers Clint Session and Ramon Humber, offensive tackle Charlie"
Tight end Clark leaves practice with leg injury
"An Indianapolis Colts offense already operating at less than full strength because of injuries might have taken another hit during Friday afternoon's practice at Anderson University. Pro Bowl tight end Dallas Clark was unable to finish the workout after injuring his left leg while running a pass route. There was no immediate comment on the severity of the injury. After stutter-stepping his feet to stay inbounds near the back of the end zone, Clark pulled up lame. He walked slowly toward a sideline, flexing his left leg before being met by a trainer. Clark was taken to a treatment tent near the practice field, finally emerging with a wrap around his upper left leg. He didn't return to"
Colts' Dallas Clark rerouted from third-string linebacker in college to star tight end
"Sneaky thing, life. At the smallest of moments, it can make the biggest of changes. For instance, there was the backup linebacker playing catch before the start of practice. There was the head coach who happened to walk past at just the right moment. There was the click of an idea as the coach glanced in the right direction at the right time at the right linebacker. If not for any of it, who knows where Dallas Clark might be today? These days, he is an unexpected star in the middle of an unlikely success story. Clark is one of the new hybrid tight ends, one of those versatile athletes who leaves defensive coordinators muttering to themselves as they try to figure out how to stop him. This"
Spreading wealth works
"Peyton Manning looked for them first in the regular season, but receiver Reggie Wayne and tight end Dallas Clark often have taken a back seat to young receivers Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie in the playoffs. That's not an issue, Wayne and Clark say, as long as the Indianapolis Colts win. Garcon, in his second year, enters Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV as the Colts' leading receiver in the postseason with 16 catches. That includes 11 in the previous game, an AFC Championship Game record. Collie, a rookie fourth-round pick, is tied with Wayne and Clark at 11 catches. During the season, Wayne and Clark each caught 100 passes. Collie had 60 and Garcon 47. "It's kind of nice knowing that, gosh, if"
Clark's reception to change at Iowa paying off in Indianapolis
"Dallas Clark earned first-team all-pro honors this season, heralding him as the best tight end in the NFL.He's surpassed many of the marks of Baltimore legend and Hall of Famer John Mackey in the Indianapolis Colts record book. And the New Orleans Saints defenders are quite aware they'll have to contend with him Sunday. Yet it's almost certain that Clark would not be enjoying his current success if he'd listened to his heart instead of his coaches. "I walked on at Iowa as a linebacker, and I just had it in my mind that I was going to try to be as good a linebacker as I could be," Clark says. "Then Coach (Kirk) Ferentz saw something in me and he wanted to try me at tight end. After about a"
Jets' Kerry Rhodes goes from Gates to Clark
"Kerry Rhodes said he is glad Antonio Gates was the Jets' opponent last week. Gates, the Chargers' all-world tight end, caught eight passes for 93 yards in the Jets' 17-14 upset win Sunday in San Diego. It was Gates' backup, Kris Wilson, who caught the Chargers' first touchdown pass. It was good prep work for this week's test -- Colts star tight end Dallas Clark. "I think it was a good thing that we got to see Gates last week," Rhodes said. "And we just know that you can't just play zone against those type of guys. They're going to find openings. And when you have a quarterback like [Philip] Rivers or [Peyton] Manning, they're going to get the ball to him. "So seeing him, it helps us to"
Clark, Wayne will be counted on again
"On the NFL's most demanding stage, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark have delivered. The secret to their ability to produce consistently in the playoffs? "No real secret," said Clark, the Indianapolis Colts' ultra-effective tight end. "I just think it's one of those things (where) you try to play your best this time of year." In 98 regular-season games, Clark has had at least 100 receiving yards seven times. He has done it three times in nine postseason appearances. When the Colts got on a four-game roll that took them to Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season, Clark arguably was their most valuable offensive player with 21 receptions and 317 yards. "This is what we play for," he said. "This is"
Manning, Clark, Freeney selected to All-Pro Team
"Chris Johnson didn't take any votes away from NFL Most Valuable Player Peyton Manning. The Tennessee running back didn't miss any for The Associated Press All-Pro team. The 2,000-yard rusher for the Titans was the only unanimous choice for the squad, announced Thursday. He's joined in the backfield by Manning, who won an unprecedented fourth MVP award last week, when four quarterbacks were the only players to receive votes. Manning, chosen for the fifth time, was joined by two teammates, tight end Dallas Clark and defensive end Dwight Freeney. For setting the league mark for yards from scrimmage and becoming the sixth 2,000-yard rusher in NFL history, Johnson got all 50 votes from a"
Clark joining 5 Colts teammates at Pro Bowl
"It took the most prolific season by a tight end in Indianapolis Colts history, and one of the most prolific in NFL history, for Dallas Clark finally to earn his first Pro Bowl berth. Clark was one of six Colts -- an AFC high and tied for the second-highest total in the Indy era -- named to the Pro Bowl squad. He joined quarterback Peyton Manning, wide receiver Reggie Wayne, center Jeff Saturday and defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. That Clark's five teammates were honored is hardly newsworthy; all are repeat honorees. Manning was selected for his 10th Pro Bowl, which is Jan. 31, the week before Super Bowl XLIV in Miami's Dolphin Stadium. Freeney and Saturday were selected"
Can Dallas Clark get to 100 catches?
"The number -- 100 -- is alluring, yet doesn't overshadow the bigger picture. Even though Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark is closing in on an NFL milestone, perhaps even a record, he'll take a 'W' any day. "Stats are good and all,'' Clark said, "but they mean nothing if you're not winning. If it's one catch and a win, that's fine with me.'' Clark is experiencing the best of both worlds in this, his seventh season. This afternoon against the New York Jets in Lucas Oil Stadium, the Colts go after just the second 15-0 regular-season start in NFL history. If they get it, they'll extend their league-record regular-season winning streak to 24 games and their club-record home winning"
Clark (3 TDs) leads red-zone attack
"The game within the game was a point of emphasis for the Indianapolis Colts heading into Sunday's game against Denver at Lucas Oil Stadium, and the main reason they remained unbeaten. When in the red zone, capitalize. "We really wanted to get touchdowns in the red zone," quarterback Peyton Manning said. "That's where Denver can really tighten you up." Not Sunday. The Colts' 28-16 win was a direct byproduct of the Manning-led offense finishing what it started. Four of the 13 drives penetrated the Broncos' 20-yard line. Three ended with touchdown passes to tight end Dallas Clark, the other with a TD to rookie receiver Austin Collie. Clark's three TDs were a career high and pushed his career"
Surpassing Mackey humbles Colts' Clark
"Dallas Clark is in position to one-up the man who helped revolutionize the tight end position, appropriately enough in the city where John Mackey became a Hall of Famer and remains a legend. With one reception Sunday afternoon in Baltimore, the Indianapolis Colts' veteran breaks Mackey's franchise record for career receptions by a tight end. Don't think for a second, though, that Clark envisions himself surpassing Mackey. No way, not ever. "No, no, that'll never, never, never end up like that,'' Clark said Wednesday. "He's the man. "Any time that I've ever been (mentioned) in the same sentence with him, that's just a great honor. For what he did for Baltimore . . . what he did for the"
Clark is a marked man
"Dallas Clark is coming off one of the best games by a tight end in NFL history. The Colts veteran had a career-high 14 receptions in last Sunday's victory over Houston, one shy of tying the league record. Clark offered some advice as he looked ahead, beginning with tonight's prime-time clash with the New England Patriots in Lucas Oil Stadium. Don't get too used it, he said. "You can throw out that stat,'' Clark said. "(Houston) was a different game. We wanted to attack. We wanted to get them running, get them tired and try to take advantage of that. To do that, it's best when you throw the ball a lot. Quarterback Peyton Manning threw early, late and often. He had 25 attempts in the first"
NFL names Clark AFC Offensive Player of Week
"The tight end that typically gets overlooked for awards finally got one today as the Indianapolis Colts' Dallas Clark was named NFL AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Clark, a seventh-year pro who has flourished in this offense but has yet to make his first Pro Bowl, tied a franchise record with a career-high 14 catches in Sunday's 20-17 home victory over Houston. "It's cool. It's never happened before," Clark said. "But a lot of things went into it. It certainly wasn't just an individual thing." Clark's catches tied former receiver Marvin Harrison for most in a Colts game. It's also the third-best single-game total by a tight end in NFL history, behind Kellen Winslow (1984) and Jason"
Colts tight end Dallas Clark on record pace
"Colts tight end Dallas Clark is on a tear. Clark ranks seventh overall and first among tight ends in yardage, 441, and sixth overall and first among tight ends in receptions, with 35. He's on pace to break NFL season records for tight ends in receiving yards, 1,290, set by Kellen Winslow in 1980, and receptions, 102, by Tony Gonzalez in 2004. The most obvious conclusion to draw is that after more than six seasons, Clark's role has changed in the Colts offense. Clark humbly disagrees, saying the scheme doesn't include more plays designed for the tight end this year. "Statistically, it looks like it has, but really I don't feel it has," Clark told reporters in St. Louis on a teleconference."
Looking goofy in uniform was Clark's biggest rookie mistake
"Dallas Clark was an accomplished tight end when the Indianapolis Colts selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft. He was a two-year starter at Iowa, a player who knew how to carry himself on the football field. Dressing for the occasion, though, turned out to be a different matter entirely. It was a wide-eyed Clark who approached assistant equipment manager Sean Sullivan -- aka "Frog" -- prior to his first full-pads practice as a rookie. "I asked Frog, 'Where are our hip pads?' " Clark said, smiling. "In college, you wear hip pads, butt pads, every pad you can think of." The Colts' pants weren't designed to accommodate Clark's request for added protection. "Not even a slot where"
Clark has remarkable night
"The few plays that the Indianapolis Colts had the football on an unusual Monday night, it usually ended up in the trusty hands of tight end Dallas Clark. And that was just enough, despite only 14 minutes and 53 seconds of possession time, to squeak out a 27-23 Colts victory over Miami at Land Shark Stadium. On the game's opening play, Clark started the "Monday Night Football" party with an 80-yard touchdown reception. In the fourth quarter, he set up quick Colts touchdown drives with key catches, the first for 49 yards and the latter for 17 yards. By game's end, Clark had a team-record 183 yards on seven catches, which ranked as the fourth-highest yards total in a game for a tight end in"
Saturday, Clark may play against Jacksonville
"The Indianapolis Colts might get two significant players back from injury for this Sunday's showdown with AFC South rival Jacksonville, but they'll be missing another, and likely two. Safety Bob Sanders could miss up to six weeks with a high sprain to his right ankle and offensive tackle Tony Ugoh likely will also miss the Jaguars game with a groin injury. Each player was injured in last Sunday's win at Minnesota. Countering the losses of Sanders and Ugoh is the possibility of center Jeff Saturday and tight end Dallas Clark returning the lineup. Saturday has missed the first two games with an injury to his right knee while Clark was held out of the Vikings game with an injury to his right"
Colts Saturday, Clark to miss Vikings game
"The Indianapolis Colts will be without starters Jeff Saturday and Dallas Clark when they meet the Minnesota Vikings in the Metrodome this afternoon. Saturday will miss his second straight start after tearing a ligament in his right knee in an Aug. 24 preseason game against Buffalo. The three-time Pro Bowl center began to practice Wednesday and was hopeful he could return to the starting lineup, but that didn't happen. Rookie Jamey Richard once again will start in place of Saturday. Clark will miss the game after injuring his right knee in last Sunday's season opener against Chicago. He went through pre-game warm-ups this morning, but was one of the Colts' eight inactive players. Also"
Clark's injury appears minor
"So, where does the Indianapolis Colts offense go after its discombobulated performance Sunday night? Nowhere but up, fans will hope, and not just to Minnesota. But don't expect it to be easy. A unit that almost certainly will be missing two starting linemen again -- guard Ryan Lilja, on the physically unable to perform list, and center Jeff Saturday -- now has another injury to worry about: Dallas Clark's right knee. Team president Bill Polian said on his Monday evening radio show that team physicians were "fairly optimistic about Dallas and I have heard nothing . . . that tells me otherwise. "I think we're in pretty good shape there.'' Clark suffered the injury in the second quarter of"
Colts await MRI report on Clark
"The Indianapolis Colts are awaiting word on the severity of a knee injury to tight end Dallas Clark, and intent on improving upon their subpar effort in Sunday's season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears. Coach Tony Dungy said Clark was scheduled to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging test on his right knee earlier today. The coach had not seen the results when he met with the media at 12:30 p.m. Clark injured his right knee in the second quarter of the 29-13 loss. He returned to the game briefly but did not play in the second half. "I'm hoping he'll be OK,'' Dungy said. "He was running, trying to get himself back in the game last night. "But if it is going to be a couple of weeks, we'll"
