Cory Stillman News & Rumors

Report: Stillman to retire, join Florida front office
"Forward Cory Stillman, one of the few NHL players to win consecutive Stanley Cups with different teams, reportedly will announce his retirement Thursday at a news conference in Florida. The Peterborough (Ontario) Examiner also reports that Stillman will be introduced as a member of the Panthers' player development staff. He will monitor and work with Florida's junior and minor-league prospects. Stillman scored 278 goals and added 449 assists in 1,025 games during 16 NHL seasons with Calgary, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Carolina and Florida -- he was traded from the Panthers back to Carolina in February and had 17 points in 21 games. He was a member of the Lightning's 2004 Cup winners after his"
Stillman pays dividends for Hurricanes in 2-1 victory
"Following Tuesday morning's skate at the RBC Center, Panthers alternate captain Stephen Weiss presented recently traded teammate Cory Stillman with an engraved silver-plated hockey stick, a Gator XUV and a weekend at the Ritz Carlton for playing in his 1,000th game a few weeks ago. About seven hours later Stillman, using his regulation stick, repaid his former teammates with a goal and an assist in the first period to earn the First Star and stake the Hurricanes to a lead they wouldn't relinquish in a 2-1 victory. The names on nine Panthers' jerseys might've changed, but they remained a hustling team, only to lose another one-goal game for the league-leading 15th time, despite outshooting"
Florida Panthers deal Stillman to Carolina
"The Panthers' annual fire sale heated up Thursday when General Manager Dale Tallon traded veteran forward Cory Stillman to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for fourth-line center Ryan Carter and a fifth-round draft pick. This marks the third time that Stillman, 37, has been dealt right around the trade deadline, and second time to the Hurricanes, who he helped win a Stanley Cup in 2006. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Carter has the size and toughness that Tallon covets. Carter has just 32 points in 170 career games, including 138 games with Anaheim before being shipped to Carolina last November. "You take what you can get,'' Tallon said. "That was the best offer we had so far. All our [draft]"
Cory Stillman to reach 1,000-game mark
"Numbers would seem to be on Cory Stillman's side for reaching 1,000 games. He was a first-round draft pick early in the phase that took the NHL from 21 to 30 teams. The 1,000-games club he is set to join Wednesday against Philadelphia has 261 members. But Stillman knows better. "I was always told that 'just because you're a first-rounder doesn't mean you're ever going to play,'?'' said Stillman, 37. "I had to take an approach that way. There's a lot who don't play." Such as Ryan Sittler, taken seventh overall by Philadelphia after Calgary took Stillman at No.?6. Despite getting half his genes from Hall of Famer Darryl Sittler, Ryan Sittler never played an NHL game. Meanwhile, Stillman is"
Kulikov's ankle not as bad as feared, McCabe wants to stay, Stillman ready, Bitz MIA
"Just got back from Panthers practice in Saveology.com Iceplex but it was only an optional with injured players and rookies plus Darcy Hordichuk and G Scott Clemmensen. The good news is that defenseman Dmitry Kulikov's ankle isn't broken. He's having an MRI today but it's badly bruised so he's highly doubtful for Sunday against San Jose. Captain Bryan McCabe (jaw) is probably a week away. He's skating and has had a special helmet designed to protect his mouth. He told me that he hears the rumors but he doesn't want to go anywhere. This is where he wants to end his career. His family loves South Florida as does he, and he likes the direction that GM Dale Tallon is taking this team. That"
Cory Stillman hurt in Monday practice
"A day before facing St.?Louis, the Panthers' line of former Blues took a one-two during Monday's practice. In this case, the jab actually came second, Radek Dvorak taking a shot off an ankle during a penalty-killing drill. Dvorak, drafted by the Panthers but with St.?Louis in 2006-07, said he would be fine before limping away. But the cross came about a half-hour earlier, when left wing Cory Stillman left Monday's practice with what appeared to be injuries to his left shoulder and wrist. Stillman, with St.Louis from 2001-03, went for X-rays that would tell the Panthers whether or not they would need to make another call to AHL Rochester, N.Y.. Recalling Scott Timmins from Rochester, where"
Stillman back at practice
"Panthers forward Cory Stillman, who injured his rotator cuff and had to leave in the first period of Friday night's 7-4 win over Carolina, made a surprise appearance at practice Monday. The original prognosis had Stillman out for at least two weeks, but coach Pete DeBoer said the injury isn't as serious as originally thought. That explains why assistant General Manager Mike Santos didn't promote anyone from Rochester. DeBoer said Stillman is doubtful for Wednesday against Toronto, but is possible for the weekend. "He's still day to day,'' DeBoer said. "Doubtful for Wednesday, but we'll see how the rest of the week goes.''"
Cory Stillman scores winner for Florida Panthers
"Tomas Vokoun didn't have much to do during regulation of Tuesday's game. Overtime was a different story -- and Vokoun was a difference-maker. The Panthers goalie was sharp in overtime and in the shootout, leading Florida to a 3-2 victory over the Wild at Xcel Energy Center. Vokoun faced only nine shots from the Wild in the first 60 minutes (the team was booed coming off the ice after the third), but was forced into action in the five-minute overtime as the Wild dominated play in the Florida zone. Vokoun then stopped all four shots he faced in the shootout as Cory Stillman's goal in the fourth round won it for Florida. ``He looked like he wasn't going to let us lose that game,'' coach Pete"
Florida Panthers' Cory Stillman ready to help
"When the Panthers were piling up goals in bunches not too long ago, Cory Stillman surmised maybe he wasn't missed all that much. Not true at all. Stillman has been out since injuring his left knee in a game at Detroit on Nov. 20 but makes his return Thursday against Montreal. And while it's true the Panthers had their offensive game clicking at times during Stillman's absence, they sure could use him now. The Panthers have lost three of their past four games and have scored a total of four goals. ``We were scoring some goals and everything was great. You wonder if they need you,'' Stillman said after Monday's practice in Coral Springs. ``I want to get in and help contribute on a consistent"
Stillman's return pushed back to New Year's Eve
"The Panthers won't have Cory Stillman back in the lineup as quickly as they had hoped. Coach Pete DeBoer said Stillman likely will return Dec. 31 against Montreal instead of Dec. 27 against Boston. Stillman, who sustained an injury to his left knee Nov. 20 in Detroit, has been practicing with the team the past few days. But because of the Panthers' compressed schedule, the practices have been no-contact skates, with some drills. DeBoer said he wants Stillman to get into some more intense practices before returning. Florida is expected to hold a full practice Saturday in Coral Springs before taking on Boston on Sunday. The Panthers won't play again until New Year's Eve. ``He's close,'' said"

Stillman practices, could return on Dec. 27
"Injured winger Cory Stillman practiced with his teammates Friday for the first time since getting hurt Nov. 20 in Detroit. But don't think he is ready to come back just yet. ``It's a step, and it's probably a few weeks before I get back in,'' Stillman said. Stillman injured his left knee after getting taken into the boards against the Red Wings, but surgery wasn't needed. The Panthers are expecting him to return Dec. 27 against Boston. The Panthers could use Stillman's offense. Before getting hurt, Stillman had six goals and four assists in eight games. ``I'm feeling better,'' he said. ``No surgery, any time they don't have to go into your body is a good thing. It hasn't healed yet.'' In"
Holiday cheer -- injured players are on the way back
"The Panthers had some encouraging sights at their Wednesday morning skate at BankAtlantic Center: Three injured players skated before the rest of the team took the ice. David Booth, Cory Stillman and Gregory Campbell did the light skating. Booth, who returned to the ice for the first time Tuesday at Incredible Ice Arena, continued his rehab from a concussion sustained Oct. 24 when he was was knocked out on a check by Mike Richards of the Philadelphia Flyers. The Panthers originally hoped to have Booth back by Christmas but will let their leading goal-scorer from last season take his time. ``He still is a ways away,'' coach Pete DeBoer said. ``But it is another step in the progression of"
Panthers call up two reserves as injuries mount
"On Friday, both Cory Stillman and Gregory Campbell sustained injuries that kept them out of Saturday's game at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers. Stillman injured his left knee during the Panthers victory in Detroit; Campbell also sustained undisclosed injuries that coach Pete DeBoer described as ``a bunch of little things going on.'' The severity of Stillman's injury is not yet known. The Panthers hope the injury is only minor. ``I don't think it's minor, but I don't think it's surgery major,'' DeBoer said about Stillman before Saturday's game. ``It's somewhere in between. But it's significant enough that he'll be out for a little while.'' The Panthers recalled forwards Shawn"
Stillman's injury halts hot stretch with Reinprecht
"It took forwards Cory Stillman and Steven Reinprecht a little while to get going. Kind of like the Panthers themselves. Only the Panthers are still going strong, but the Stillman-Reinprecht combo could be on the shelf for some time. The one negative out of Florida's 2-1 overtime victory over the Red Wings on Friday was that Stillman -- who had goals in six of eight games coming in -- sustained a left knee injury. Stillman was driven into the boards midway through the second period, and coach Pete DeBoer said he will be out for some time. The Panthers will call up a forward from their AHL affiliate in Rochester, N.Y., before Saturday's game in New York against the Rangers. In Florida's run"
Panthers edge Bruins 1-0 in shootout
"When teammate Steven Reinprecht's shot hit the post, bounced off the back of Bruins goalie Tim Thomas' right leg and then off his blocker, Panthers' goalie Tomas Vokoun had the same reaction as just about every other person inside the Garden. "Oh, my God, it's never going to go in," Vokoun thought to himself. In the fourth round of the shootout, the puck finally crossed a goal line for the first time Thursday night. Cory Stillman scored against Thomas to give the Panthers a hard-fought 1-0 win on a night Vokoun recorded his third shutout in four games. "I was relieved," said Vokoun, who made 40 saves. "He deserved the two points tonight," coach Pete DeBoer said. "It was nice to get them"
Fortuitous Panthers benefit from some `lucky' bounces
"When the Panthers put players in front of the net, something good usually happens -- especially when Steven Reinprecht is the one near the crease. Reinprecht scored his team-high ninth goal Wednesday night after a puck ricocheted off him, the fortuitous bounce helping to lift the Panthers to a 3-0 victory over the Hurricanes at BankAtlantic Center. Cory Stillman also scored after deflecting a puck while shielding Carolina goalie Cam Ward."
