"San Francisco rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick will get a chance to play against Mario Williams, Brian Cushing and the rest of the Houston Texans' top defensive players Saturday night. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday that Alex Smith would start the game, as he has the previous two, but that Kaepernick and other "key backups" would be inserted early, perhaps after two series. Kaepernick has seen plenty of action this exhibition season but has yet to take a snap against another team's top defense. Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed after Sunday's practice at Candlestick Park that veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper will work out Monday.
