Colin Kaepernick News & Rumors

If not Smith or Manning, 49ers have Kaepernick
"Thank goodness one of the key actors in the 49ers' quarterback drama isn't getting his underwear in a bunch, figuratively speaking. Colin Kaepernick tweeted Sunday morning, "I woke up to my timeline (Twitter in-box) blowing up lol did I miss something?" It's a good thing Kap – as his friends and neighbors call him – has a sense of humor about the team's quarterback chaos, because: (A) Nobody else does. (B) He suddenly looms as a vital piece of the 49ers' puzzle, and his humor indicates that he embraces the challenge. If the 49ers sign Peyton Manning, Kaepernick is one Peyton Manning bad night's sleep away from the starting job on a Super Bowl contender."
Rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick might get snaps before season ends
"Stashed behind the scenes of the 49ers' march to the NFC West crown has been rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Alex Smith has started every game, and aside from a concussion in a Week 2 loss to Dallas, he's stayed healthy. He even persevered through a nine-sack nightmare in the 49ers' Thanksgiving night loss at Baltimore. But could Kaepernick get an opportunity to play extensively once the 49ers (9-2) clinch their playoff position and possibly rest Smith? "It's definitely something we would consider," offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. 49ers' Kaepernick, other 'key backups' to face Houston starters
"San Francisco rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick will get a chance to play against Mario Williams, Brian Cushing and the rest of the Houston Texans' top defensive players Saturday night. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday that Alex Smith would start the game, as he has the previous two, but that Kaepernick and other "key backups" would be inserted early, perhaps after two series. Kaepernick has seen plenty of action this exhibition season but has yet to take a snap against another team's top defense. "I want to see the guys be able to compete against the other team's starters in that type of competitive environment," Harbaugh said. "(I'm) just looking forward to what's going to happen"
Veteran QB Daunte Culpepper to work out with 49ers
"A new but familiar face could be joining the 49ers' quarterback competition between Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed after Sunday's practice at Candlestick Park that veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper will work out Monday. "It's an opportunity to look at a veteran quarterback, put a third guy on the roster who's been there before and has had game experience," Harbaugh said. "We'll see where he's at physically, see where's he's at mentally and emotionally. I'm looking forward to a good workout." Culpepper played last season with the United Football League's Sacramento Mountain Lions, his first year out of the NFL since joining the Minnesota Vikings as a 1999"
