Chris Duhon News & Rumors

Injury to Duhon might prompt Magic to sign another point guard
"The Orlando Magic could be without Chris Duhon for the foreseeable future, and his injury has prompted team officials to discuss the possibility of signing another point guard, coach Stan Van Gundy said. Duhon, who injured his right thumb on Monday, sat out Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena. The Magic plan to have their team orthopedist and a hand specialist examine Duhon, who said he will receive an X-ray and an MRI on Thursday. "It's not going to be anything where he'll be back soon, that's for sure," Van Gundy said. Van Gundy said that he and Magic President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith have talked about adding another player to the roster. Not"
Jameer Nelson to play against the Atlanta Hawks tonight, but Chris Duhon is out
"Jameer Nelson will return from a knee injury tonight and play for the Orlando Magic against the Atlanta Hawks. After sitting out one game, Nelson tested the knee Tuesday afternoon and participated in the Magic's shootaround today at Philips Arena and experienced no problems. "I'm pretty good," Nelson said. "It felt pretty good after working out yesterday so that's a good sign. I'll try to go out there and try to help my team tonight and win." Meanwhile, Chris Duhon will not play tonight after he injured his right thumb Monday against the New York Knicks, and there is concern that he could miss an extended period of time. Coach Stan Van Gundy said Duhon will be examined by the team"
Van Gundy hasn't decided who will start if Jameer Nelson sits
"Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said he hasn't decided who will start at point guard if Jameer Nelson can't play Monday night against the Knicks because of a sprained left knee. Gilbert Arenas is the obvious choice, as he practiced with the first team and is more skilled than Chris Duhon, but Van Gundy insisted the decision hasn't been made. His reasoning? "Part of it is balance," Van Gundy said. "We've got our better offensive players all on the floor at the beginning. We've gotta have some balance off the bench, and Gil's probably the best off player we'd have off the bench. If we're going to start them all, we might not have as good of balance." And: "If you start him, then is it"
Magic get big lift from reserves Richardson, Duhon in win over Knicks
"Quentin Richardson and Chris Duhon have been buried on the Orlando Magic bench since mid-December. But on Tuesday night, they brought the Magic new life. The duo helped the Magic overcome an 11-point deficit late in the third quarter and beat the new-look New York Knicks 116-110 in an emotional, foul-filled game at Amway Center. Richardson delivered timely scoring, clutch rebounding and defended Carmelo Anthony solidly down the stretch. Duhon dished out a team-high five assists. "I have always had great respect for guys who do what Q and Chris did tonight," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "They've been out of the rotation now for a long time, for a couple of months, and to come in in a"
Orlando Magic players support Chris Duhon's high-school alma mater
"Fans who attended Tuesday night's game between Salmen High School and Brother Martin High School in Slidell, La., received quite a surprise. Seven Orlando Magic players attended the game. Chris Duhon is a Salmen graduate, and he brought teammates Brandon Bass, Earl Clark, Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Jason Richardson and Quentin Richardson to the game, which Salmen won 64-58. "I'm just thankful that they came," Duhon said before the Magic tipped-off their game Wednesday night against the New Orleans Hornets at New Orleans Arena. "It's not every day that you see Dwight Howard walk into a high-school gym and Jameer Nelson and those types of guys." The Magic players received a side benefit:"
D'Antoni continues to defend Duhon
"At yesterday's practice at Amway Center, a national writer was working on a piece regarding Raymond Felton's brilliant first season with the Knicks as their electric new point guard. But Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni, who has a soft spot for former point guard Chris Duhon, continued to defend Duhon's horrible two-year run in New York as Stephon Marbury's successor. Tonight the Knicks face the Magic, who signed Duhon over the summer as a free agent. Ironically, the Magic tried to sign Duhon two years ago before D'Antoni begged Knicks president Donnie Walsh to ink Duhon because he felt he couldn't coach Marbury's ego. The result was a 61-103 record over those two seasons when Duhon was the"
Anderson not bothered by Duhon wearing his jersey
"When the Magic introduced Chris Duhon the other day, the club conducted the standard photo op. General Manager Otis Smith carried the new point guard's previously unseen jersey to the podium. Smith then unfurled Duhon's uniform top and held it up. His number? 25. Nick Anderson's number. Maybe I'm just becoming an old sentimental fool, but it bothered me a little. And I wondered if it bothered Nick, who is still the Magic's all-time leading scorer. "I've had people texting me, calling me, saying, 'Man, they gave Chris Duhon your number.' I tell them, 'Don't be upset about that,' "Anderson said. "I'm thankful to have worn No. 25. They gave it to a pretty good young player." Nick's other"
Agent: Duhon to join Magic
"Free agent point guard Chris Duhon agreed to a four year, $15 million dollar contract with the Orlando Magic, his agent, Kevin Bradbury, told ESPN.com. The 27-year-old Duhon was the starting point guard for the New York Knicks the last two seasons. He averaged 7.4 ppg and 5.6 apg last season for the Knicks. The Magic currently only had one point guard, Jameer Nelson, on the roster."
Knicks coach stands by Duhon despite another lost season
"he Chris Duhon Knicks Era ends Wednesday in Toronto -- and it will end with him reinstalled as the starting point guard. Mission was not accomplished, but coach Mike D'Antoni is defending Duhon to the bitter end. Duhon was supposed to restore a winning culture to the Garden. That's what Duhon predicted. That's what D'Antoni promised. The Knicks coach begged team president Donnie Walsh to sign the career backup point guard as a free agent in the summer of 2008. Stephon Marbury was a losing playing, D'Antoni believed. Duhon was a winner one. Two 50-loss seasons later, D'Antoni still won't admit he was wrong about Duhon."
Chris Duhon appears to have beaten out Sergio Rodriquez as backup point guard
"While Toney Douglas is the starting point guard for the rest of the season, Chris Duhon has apparently won the backup job from Sergio Rodriquez. Duhon, who began the season as the starter only to record 11 straight DNPs in the second game after the Tracy McGrady deal was completed, has now appeared in three straight. Duhon had two points, four assists, three rebounds and one turnover in 18 minutes in Sunday's 116-112 loss to Houston Meanwhile, Rodriquez recorded his first DNP since being acquired from Sacramento in the three-team McGrady trade. Douglas scored a career-high 26 points but had an awful ending. In the last 2:29, Douglas committed three turnovers and missed a 3-pointer that"
Duhon not fazed by his benching
"In a city where nobody takes blame for anything, Chris Duhon said yesterday he couldn't argue with Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's decision to yank him from the rotation. In a mea culpa made blocks from the White House, Duhon told The Post he gets why he has been benched. "I understand what's going on, and I understand it. I had my opportunity." Duhon said at the morning shootaround at the Verizon Center before the Knicks' 118-116 overtime victory over the Wizards last night. "Now it's time for other guys. "I just couldn't get out of [the slump]," added Duhon, who sat for the third straight game. "I had enough time. I just didn't get out of it. I had every opportunity. He's got to see what's"
Knicks bench Chris Duhon in favor of Sergio Rodriguez at point guard
"The Chris Duhon era is over. Mike D'Antoni installed newly acquired Sergio Rodriguez as the Knicks' new starting point guard effective immediately. And there is no guarantee that Duhon, D'Antoni's hand-picked successor to Stephon Marbury, will see much action for the remainder of the season. "There doesn't seem to be a pop there right now," D'Antoni said Monday of Duhon. Rodriguez, acquired from Sacramento in the Tracy McGrady deal, had a decent game in his Knicks' debut on Saturday. He had six assists with two turnovers and missed six of eight shots. But the change is more about Duhon's struggles than anything else. In 53 games, including 51 starts, Duhon is shooting 34% and is averaging"
Knicks' Chris Duhon gets to the point, again
"Some guards are point guards, Mike D'Antoni believes. Yet, Nate Robinson is a "points guard," he said Thus, it's back to square one, or square whatever for a 19-31 team the Knicks' coach admits is "getting to the end of the rope" in terms of making something of this season other than a trip for Utah to Secaucus for the draft lottery - the result of the 2004 trade for another point/points guard, Stephon Marbury. Now, the guard who eventually replaced Marbury at the point, Chris Duhon, gets his job back tonight from Robinson when the Knicks face struggling Sacramento in the final game before the All-Star break. He might have gotten it back, anyhow, for Robinson is questionable with a groin"
Saint Chris Super-charged by Porter pick-six
"As Tracy Porter ran back the game-clinching interception for the Saints on Sunday night, Chris Duhon started sprinting. "I ran with him," Duhon, a huge Saints fan who hails from Louisiana, recalled yesterday. "I ran all the way to my mailbox, I did his end zone dance and everything and I just knew that we finally got [the championship]." Duhon, who said he wanted to wear his Saints jersey to address the media yesterday but didn't get the chance to retrieve it before being swarmed, said the Saints' win was pretty indescribable for him. "It's been a long time," Duhon said. "We've been through a lot of paper bags and a lot of Aints calls and everything. But for them to finally be on top,"
Duhon back as Knicks' starting point
"Chris Duhon admits his eyes might have been opened when Mike D'Antoni demoted him to the bench two games ago. Tonight, Duhon will be back in the starting lineup, and he's prepared to return with one thing above all else -- energy. As the Post's Marc Berman first reported yesterday, D'Antoni will flip-flop Duhon and Nate Robinson for tonight's game against the Kings at the Garden, returning Duhon to his starting point guard role after a two-game bench banishment. Robinson will come off the bench as a shooting guard after starting at point last Friday and Saturday. Duhon, who revealed yesterday his demotion was "a reality check," said this time as a starter he needs to be sure he plays with"
Knicks end experiment, remove Nate Robinson as starting point guard and restore Chris Duhon
"Nate Robinson has a better chance of winning his slam-dunk crown than he has of starting again at point guard for the Knicks. After the Knicks lost twice over the weekend with Robinson elevated to a starting role, he is going back to the bench Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings at the Garden. "I think Nate is better as an off guard," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said Monday after practice in Greenburgh. "He understands that. I think the team functions a little bit better with a true point." Robinson, who will back up Wilson Chandler, did not make himself available to the media after practice. He sat out with a groin strain but is expected to be OK to play against the Kings in the team's"
Duhon returning from reserve role
"Mike D'Antoni is ready to reinstall Chris Duhon as the Knicks starting point guard, and also wants to make him a quasi-assistant coach as he seeks more input from the players. The Post has learned Duhon and D'Antoni held an important meeting in their Cleveland hotel Saturday afternoon as the desperate Knicks coach picked his captain's brain on the Knicks' troubles for 30 minutes. Coincidence or not, Duhon, with the club 0-2 since he went to the pine, is expected to return as the starting point guard tomorrow vs. Sacramento in their last game before the All-Star break. Nate Robinson will return to a reserve role. "It was typical coach-talking-to-his-captain type talk, trying to see what we"
Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni benches Chris Duhon in favor of Nate Robinson
"Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni is changing point guards, benching starter Chris Duhon and elevating Nate Robinson to the starting job for Friday night's game against the Bucks. D'Antoni made the announcement after practice Thursday in Greenburgh, saying that the Knicks need Robinson's energy and production. Then he told Robinson, who hasn't started since last season. "Whether I start or come off the bench, I'll play my same game," said Robinson, who was benched for 14 straight games in December and has been a reserve since. "I'll contribute to the team the best I know how.""
Icy Duhon can't find his shot
"Even though Mike D'Antoni said Chris Duhon "can't make a shot," the Knicks point guard knows he can't lose confidence. The Knicks coach flat out admitted last night that Duhon can't shoot at all right now, and the fact is, that's not an exaggeration. The Knicks ripped the Timberwolves last night at the Garden, 132-105, and Duhon finished with 13 assists and no turnovers -- a perfect floor game. But his shooting remains an atrocity. Duhon went scoreless last night in more than 31 minutes of action, taking three shots and making none."
Knicks' Hughes 'prepared' to back up struggling Duhon
"Knicks starting point guard Chris Duhon is in the midst of one of his horrific stretches, which means coach Mike D'Antoni is in the midst of trying to spin it, touting his intangibles. As he has been since arriving on Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski's recommendation, Duhon is the teacher's pet and hell will freeze over before D'Antoni yanks him from the starting lineup. But it appears time for D'Antoni to reduce Duhon's minutes and try to cultivate a new ballhandler in Larry Hughes, despite their feud. Hughes was the lone Knick not to play in Sunday's historic 50-point defeat to Dallas at the Garden. With Nate Robinson likely to miss tonight's Minnesota game with his strained hamstring and"
Recurring doldrums again strike Knicks' Chris Duhon
"Just as he did last winter and again earlier this season, Chris Duhon has fallen into a funk and taken the Knicks offense with him. When the inconsistent point guard has struggled, so has his team. But Mike D'Antoni insists Duhon's woes are mental, not physical -- that Duhon too easily loses his confidence, not his game. "(It's) probably confidence. He gets down on himself way too much. We have to get over that and give him confidence. Other guys have to pick it up, and we haven't been able to do that," said D'Antoni, who has had to give more playmaking chores to David Lee and Nate Robinson, with Duhon looking timid and tentative. "He's got to get his legs back," D'Antoni said. "He loses"
Clippers blow 20-point lead in loss to Knicks
"David Lee scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half, and the New York Knicks erased a 20-point deficit to beat the Clippers, 95-91, on Friday night. Chris Duhon added 17 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for the Knicks, who never led until the fourth quarter but found a way to win after blowing leads while losing their last two games. Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler each finished with 14 points. Jonathan Bender scored nine points in his first action since Nov. 5, 2005. Chris Kaman had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Baron Davis scored 19 points for the Clippers, who were looking for a third straight win but managed only 33 points in the second half. The Clippers had won four"
NY's new blood gives Garden life
"There was a new face on the Garden court last night and it wasn't the resurfacing of banished Nate Robinson. The fresh blood was Jonathan Bender, who played his first game in four years and stunningly stopped the Clippers' first-half rampage. With the unlikeliest Knick stabilizing the sinking ship late in the first quarter, the club regrouped long enough to batter the Clippers in a 30-14 third quarter and hang on for a wild 95-91 victory before a roaring sell-out Garden crowd last night. In changing the tone of the night, Bender had nine points, three rebounds and blocked a shot in 14:15. "I was excited," Bender said. "I had a lot of adrenaline out there. Once I hit that first shot, I got"
Sluggish Bulls rally as Knicks rain threes with little success
"Sometimes, the opponent is just as important as how well you play. That definitely was the case Thursday night as the Bulls -- despite another sluggish start, a slew of silly mistakes and inconsistent play -- snapped a two-game losing streak with a 98-89 victory against a New York Knicks team that was content to fire away (and mostly miss) from the perimeter. Amazingly, the Knicks (8-17) hoisted 47 shots from behind the three-point line -- making just 16 for a percentage of .340 -- to literally shoot themselves out of the game. The 47 attempts were just two off the NBA record. Obviously, the 16 were well off the mark for most made. Worse, the Knicks were 7-for-13 from behind the arc in the"
Knicks jack up franchise-record 47 threes in loss to Bulls
"The Knicks blew up last night because of their love of the 3-point shot. They blew a 17-point lead and the Nate Robinson controversy is on the verge of blowing up, too. Coach Mike D'Antoni stuck to his guns and stubbornly didn't play Robinson for the seventh straight game, despite Larry Hughes' groin injury and the Knicks desperately needing an offensive jolt. The night began with a glow as the Knicks built a 25-8 lead and it ended with the club dubiously setting a piece of history. The Knicks set the franchise's all-time record for 3-point attempts with 47 3-point bombs in a hideous 98-89 defeat last night to the Bulls for their second straight loss. The Knicks' 47 treys fell two short"
Long Range Proves No Solution for Suddenly Sputtering Knicks
"One of the perks for those who play for Mike D'Antoni is freedom. D'Antoni encourages players to shoot early, shoot often and shoot from far, far away. That privilege, though, is not without its faults. The Knicks attempted a franchise-record 47 3-pointers, including an N.B.A. benchmark 29 in the first half, against the Chicago Bulls. They made only 16, frittering away an early 17-point margin along the way before falling, 98-89, at the United Center on Thursday night. "It just happens that way," D'Antoni said. "Some were good and some were jacked up. They went in early for us and that's how we got into taking them." The Knicks (8-17) located a steady rhythm last week, only to lose it"
Duhon, Hughes key to 4-game win streak
"You can underline Nate Robinson's banishment as the propeller to this Knicks renaissance, if you wish. But then you would do a disservice to Chris Duhon and Larry Hughes -- the two point guards making this four-game winning streak and giddy 5-1 stretch happen. For the Knicks, these are heady times, notching their first four-game winning streak of the Mike D'Antoni era. They play in Charlotte on Tuesday, facing Larry Brown, the Knicks coach when the franchise last won four in a row in January 2006. "We're just having fun out there playing," said Duhon after his fourth-quarter shooting spree enabled the Knicks to score 18 straight points to close out their 113-96 win in New Orleans on"
Knicks provide Duhon a happy homecoming
"Knicks point guard Chris Duhon estimated he had about 50 family members who trekked to the New Orleans Arena on Friday night from the Slidell area to attend New York's only game against the Hornets so close to his hometown. He said he wanted to give each of them their money's worth. Duhon scored 22 points for the Knicks, including a season-high 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the 3-point line, as New York snapped New Orleans' six-game home streak and three-game overall winning streak with a 113-96 thumping in front of 15,569. Duhon had 11 points in the fourth quarter, when he did not miss from beyond the arc. "The main thing is we got the win," said Duhon, who took advantage of the"
Duhon Returns Home and Puts On a Show
"Chris Duhon kept shooting, backpedaling and smiling. Stop, launch, grin, repeat. As homecomings go, this one was fairly memorable. Duhon, a native of Slidell, La., scored 11 points in the fourth quarter Friday night, leading a 3-point barrage that helped the Knicks stun the New Orleans Hornets, 113-96. Between baskets, Duhon glanced toward the luxury suites, where 50 of his closest friends and family members helped celebrate another huge Knicks victory."
Harrington, Duhon help Knicks beat Hawks
"The Knicks did it without Danilo Gallinari, who missed the game with a mysterious strained forearm. They did it without Nate Robinson, punished and benched for the second straight game by coach Mike D'Antoni. And they did it with veteran Al Harrington, who in the morning was left wondering if he ultimately will be traded to the Bulls for the younger Tyrus Thomas. After falling into an 11-0 hole, the Knicks stormed back behind Harrington's monster 25-point first half and grinded out a 114-107 victory at Phillips Arena. They moved to 5-15, beating the prosperous Suns and Hawks in two of the last three games. The no-longer winless Nets are up next tomorrow at the Garden. Harrington, who"
Knicks to stick with Chris Duhon at point guard, keep Nate Robinson coming off bench
"Chris Duhon's toughness for the New York Knicks has impressed Mike D'Antoni, who plans to stick with his starting point guard. Assuming Chris Duhon isn't hobbled by the sprained right ankle he suffered Friday night, don't expect a Knick shakeup at point guard anytime soon - even with Nate Robinson emerging as one of the team's most explosive threats. Robinson came off the bench and finished as the leading scorer in the first two games of a three-game swing out West, posting 15 points against the Lakers and 25 against the Kings. His 11 points against the Nuggets on Friday trailed Duhon by one, even though Robinson played nearly half the time Duhon did (18:47 to 37:04). It's a small sample"
Duhon still the starter for Knicks
"A day after saying he didn't know if he was going to bench Chris Duhon, Mike D'Antoni backed his struggling point guard. Even with rookie Toney Douglas emerging and Nate Robinson returning -- he's questionable tonight vs. Golden State -- Duhon's starting job is safe. "Duhon is my point guard; he's in a funk and we've got to get him out of it," D'Antoni said. "He'll get out of it; we just have to keep on going. Toney's doing a good job, Nate coming in will hopefully boost us a bit. I'm not shedding or throwing people overboard." Duhon is shooting just 23.6 percent, and after being booed in a scoreless, three-turnover outing Wednesday against the Hawks, admits he's pressing. "Just a little"
Struggling Duhon's role on Knicks under scrutiny
"Mike D'Antoni's man crush on Chris Duhon is over. In the summer of 2008, D'Antoni convinced Donnie Walsh that Duhon was the bridge to 2010 -- the point guard who would bring a winning attitude to a losing culture. Duhon possessed a high basketball IQ, leadership, defense and intangibles Stephon Marbury did not bring. The two-year deal has turned into an Isiah Thomas-like blunder. The bridge has collapsed. Duhon, newly named captain, is going down with the Knicks' ship. The Knicks are in chaos as they take their 1-6 record into tonight's game vs. the Jazz to begin a four-game homestand. Duhon's role as starting point guard is under intense scrutiny again. With backup Nate Robinson still"
Duhon feeling more at home with Knicks
"Chris Duhon didn't exactly remind Knicks fans of Clyde Frazier or Earl "The Pearl" Monroe with his performance at point guard last season. And the club wasn't shy in acknowledging a pursuit of potential replacements during the offseason through the draft, free agency and the trade market. When the dust settled and camp began, Duhon still was the top floor general on the roster. The 27-year-old former Duke Blue Devil, who is entering his second season with the Knicks, ironically feels more comfortable than he did a year ago when he was first brought to the team. "I'm more comfortable with everything," Duhon said after yesterday's practice in Greenburgh, "the coaches, the players, the"
Agents rebuff Miller-Duhon deal between Sixers, Knicks
"The Andre Miller-Chris Duhon trade speculation has been rampant for a few days. There's smoke, but there doesn't appear to be any fire. The speculation has had the 76ers involved in a sign-and-trade scenario, sending Miller, their unrestricted free agent, to the New York Knicks for point guard Chris Duhon. But . . . a highly placed source within the Knicks' organization told the Daily News yesterday that there has been no contact with Miller. Meanwhile, a source familiar with the Sixers' situation told the Daily News that no such offer has been made. Andy Miller, the agent for Andre Miller, said in a text message that "there is nothing to report." Kevin Bradbury, the agent for Duhon, said"
Knicks looking to demote Chris Duhon to bench for next season
"Chris Duhon was an unexcused no-show in February when the Knicks' charter flight returned home from Miami the morning after their loss to Dwyane Wade and the Heat. When Stephon Marbury went AWOL in November of 2007, his disappearance became national news. Duhon's error in judgment, however, barely caused a ripple outside of the Knicks organization. The official word was that Duhon overslept, which is entirely plausible. But the incident did raise additional concerns about Duhon's lifestyle - which were first broached last summer before Duhon joined the Knicks on a two-year, $12 million contract - and whether his affinity for the nightlife is directly linked to the point guard's rapidly"
Visit With President Over-Du For Knicks Guard
"It's good to have friends in high places. Chris Duhon is heading to the White House after the season, but not to be feted as part of a championship team. Despite being part of a franchise that will make yet another appearance in the lottery, the Knicks point guard has accepted an invitation to visit the White House over Kentucky Derby weekend -- the first Saturday in May. Duhon is close friends with Reggie Love, President Obama's top personal aide who travels with the president everywhere, including the recent trip to England and Iraq. Duhon and Love played together at Duke and have maintained a solid friendship. Love has wanted Duhon to come down for a D.C. visit, hang out with President"
Duhon: Knicks Need Stability
"Knicks point guard Chris Duhon said he believes more stability and less in-season trades will boost the Knicks' chances of making the playoffs in 2009-2010. Knicks Blog Other than adding a shot-blocking center, Duhon said he feels the team is good the way it is. Had the Knicks not made a flurry of moves during the season -- two trades on Nov. 21 and two more at the trade deadline on Feb. 19 -- they would have been on track for a playoff berth. The Knicks (29-44) have nine games left, including tonight's game against the Jazz. They are on track for a 50-loss season, verging on playoff elimination and another lottery. "I'm happy with how the team battled the whole year," Duhon told The"
Duhon On Shelf
"The Knicks have rested Chris Duhon for at least two games because of his ailing back. Duhon missed last night's 102-94 win over the Timberwolves and will not play in Cleveland tomorrow. The Knicks hope he's back for the Nets game at the Garden Wednesday, but there are no guarantees. Duhon has been awful the past two weeks. Duhon wanted to play but coach Mike D'Antoni made the decision he was hurting the club playing in his state. D'Antoni and Duhon met after the morning shootaround. Nate Robinson started at point guard. "Chris' back is messed up a little, but it's been that way for a couple of weeks, so we're not going to play in a couple of days," D'Antoni said. "We'll reevaluate him"
Turning Point For Slumping Duhon
"Mike D'Antoni thinks his point guard's self esteem is hurting. Chris Duhon has played miserably lately, and maybe that is an appropriate way to describe more than just his basketball performance. D'Antoni said yesterday that Duhon's "spirit isn't real confident," calling his floor general "down in the dumps." In the 15 games he has played since the start of February, Duhon has shot 38 percent while averaging just 9.9 points and 3.5 turnovers. Before February, he was shooting 43 percent, averaging 12.7 points and committing just 2.8 turnovers. He also has committed at least four turnovers in six of his last eight contests. "I don't know totally," D'Antoni said when asked about the reason"
Knicks' Duhon Reflects On Pickup Games With Obama
"Chris Duhon got to know President Barack Obama during pickup games in Chicago last spring and summer. Here are his thoughts, as told to Marc Berman, on yesterday's inauguration of the 44th President of the United States: AS I watched the inaugu ration unfold on TV in the locker room with my Knicks teammates after yesterday's practice, I felt excited for our country, excited for my best friend Reggie Love and excited for my basketball acquaintance, President Barack Obama. Reggie Love is Obama's right-hand man, but his official title is "Special Assistant and Personal Aide to POTUS (President of the United States)." To me, he's just Reggie, my teammate for three years at Duke whom I still"
Duhon Tasted O's Audacity Of Hoop
"IT'S not often that one of your playing partners in pickup basketball is inaugurated President of the United States. That's why Knick point guard Chris Duhon will be more than just an interested observer today when Barack Obama takes the oath of office and becomes our nation's 44th president. Duhon played hoops with the future president during pickup games at Chicago's East Bank Club. He got the hook-up through friend and former Duke player Reggie Love, who is one of Obama's personal assistants. Though Duhon wasn't exactly effusive about Obama's basketball skills, saying, "I don't think he has a best move," it still was "an honor" to meet the "normal" man and not the candidate. "It was"
Duhon Flourishes, With an Assist
"It was never hard to gauge Chris Duhon's relative value to the Chicago Bulls over the last four seasons. The box scores and the transaction wire told the story. While Duhon bounced like a pinball between the lineup and the bench, the Bulls signed guards (Jannero Pargo), drafted guards (Thabo Sefolosha) and traded for guards (Larry Hughes). Ben Gordon had more flash. Kirk Hinrich had more polish. Duhon was just a steady, lightly regarded second-round pick, lost in a crowd of Thabo-come-latelies. It is hard to lose sight of him now. Duhon returns to Chicago on Tuesday as one of the league leaders in assists, the engine of the Knicks' supercharged offense and the apple of Coach Mike"
No rest for weary Duhon
"Chris Duhon needs a rest. Just a few minutes off here and there, not a few days. These days, though, that isn't easy - particularly today, when he and the Knicks face the Pistons in a Garden nooner - in which he'll spend a good portion of his time chasing Allen Iverson. If Nate Robinson can play without pain one of these days (although maybe not today) from his lingering groin strain, then Mike D'Antoni has a far more capable backup at the point than the current one: shoot-first journeyman Anthony Roberson. Or if the Stephon Marbury soap opera ends and/or if Cuttino Mobley's heart issue is resolved, the Knicks could open up a roster spot to trade for someone such as Portland's Sergio"
Marbury Gives Duhon Kudos
"Chris Duhon, Stephon Marbury's successor at point guard, always spoke respectfully and poignantly of Marbury's exiled state. Marbury, in turn, has nothing but respect for Duhon, and said he thinks the Knicks are in good hands following Duhon's 22-assist, team record-breaking performance in the 38-126 win over Golden State on Saturday. Duhon broke Richie Guerin's 50-year-old Knicks record of 21 assists. The suspended Marbury watched on tape after seeing Rice High play an exhibition. "He was great," Marbury said. "He looked like an All-Star.""
Knicks conquer Warriors on record-setting night at the Garden
"James Naismith just rolled over in his grave. For 48 minutes Saturday night at the Garden, the Knicks and the Golden State Warriors traded uncontested dunks in a game with so little defense it would have made the NBA All-Star Game blush. Both teams played as if they had signed a nonaggression pact before tip-off: you let me score, I'll let you score. But give the Knicks credit for one thing - somehow, they found a team that plays worse defense than themselves and they buried the hapless Warriors, 138-125, to get back to .500 at 8-8. The Warriors were playing their fourth game in five nights, and considering their effort and roster, an asterisk should be placed next to every meaningful"
Duhon, Lee Help Knicks Score Big
"Last night's Knicks-Golden State clash became such a wild streetball festival that even David Lee turned into a circus act. After stealing the ball at halfcourt, the fundamentally sound power forward, drove in and threw an alley-oop pass . . . to himself. Lee dunked it through to wild cheers for the Knicks' 102nd point with 4:03 left in the third quarter before a flabbergasted Garden crowd. In a record-setting evening of scoring, in a game befitting the West 4th Street playground, the Knicks discovered a defense worse than theirs. They posted a Knicks' Garden record 82 points in the first half. Lee finished with a career-high 37 points and a career-high 21 rebounds. Chris Duhon set a"
Serby's Sunday Q&A with ... Chris Duhon
"The Post's Steve Serby chatted with the Knicks new point guard, who won a national championship with Duke in 2001. Q: You played a pickup game (in Chicago) with Barack Obama? A: A couple of times. Q: How did that happen? A: My best friend is Reggie Love, and we went to school together at Duke, so he's one of Barack's body men (aides). Q: So he (Love) invited Barack down to a gym? A: They usually play all the time, and obviously Barack lives in Chicago. . . . Every Sunday morning, they play at this gym in downtown Chicago, which was right around the corner from me. Q: And what's Barack like? A: He understands how to play, and I think with age, his skills have kinda diminished. But for his"
Duhon Ready To be 'New' Captain
"With nine days left to their season opener vs. Miami, coach Mike D'Antoni still hasn't decided on his captain and probably won't until after the season starts. Chris Duhon, the starting point guard, feels playing the role of a captain is part of his Knicks destiny, calling himself the team's "general." It is likely Duhon will be named a captain soon after the season begins, even though he's newest to the club. "I think that's the job of the point guard," Duhon told The Post. "The point guard is the coach on the floor, the quarterback. You put everybody in their right position, understanding what the coaches want. Whether labeled captain or not, when we're on the court, that's my team." The"
