Chris Brown News & Rumors

Brown, Cushing deny accusations
"Offensive tackle Duane Brown and inside linebacker Brian Cushing denied after practice Wednesday that they played dirty in Sunday's 24-14 victory over Jacksonville. Brown said he didn't punch outside linebacker Clint Session after a Jaguars fumble return that ended with both players out of bounds at Reliant Stadium. A video from the game appears to show Brown punching Session as Brown is getting up after a second-quarter fumble return that included two laterals. "I did not punch that man," Brown said. "As I was getting up, one of his teammates came and pushed me. To not fall back on top of him, my left hand came down and hit him in the stomach area to stop myself from falling on top of"
Toe-to-toe competition goes to wire
"There is drama in the building. So much so you could almost hear scene-setting music in the background as Kris Brown plodded through the locker room, fresh off the trainer's table where he'd received treatment for plantar fasciitis on his precious right foot. Brown, wearing a walking boot, was not at Monday's practice with his Texans teammates. The only kicker the franchise has known might have but a single workout left as a Texan. That could be today. The team will have a walk-through Wednesday and play its final preseason game against Tampa Bay on Thursday night. Friday, Brown either will be named the Texans' kicker for the 2010 season or asked to clear out his locker. "It's going to be"
Slaton, Brown to split time at RB
"The NFL has fined defensive end Antonio Smith and linebacker Brian Cushing for their actions during Monday's 20-17 loss to Tennessee. Smith was fined $10,000 for elbowing Titans center Kevin Mawae. Smith was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness at the end of the pass play. Cushing was fined $5,000 for hitting quarterback Vince Young out of bounds. He was penalized 15 yards as well. The league said Cushing was fined for unnecessary roughness for striking an opponent late and out of bounds on a run play. Medical update Defensive tackle Amobi Okoye was the only player to miss practice Friday. He's got the flu but is expected to play against the Colts."
Another goal-line drive fails in loss
"The Texans lost the Jacksonville game when Chris Brown got to the 1 and fumbled into the end zone. They lost the Arizona game when Brown was stopped short of the goal line on third and fourth downs on the last series. "We've got to find a way to run the ball with some type of consistency," coach Gary Kubiak said. "It's so difficult to stay on the field and keep the defense off the field. We're not doing that very well at all." The Texans committed one turnover, and it was a big one. On third-and-8 at their 42 with the score 21-21, quarterback Matt Schaub took a quick drop and threw to Kevin Walter on the right sideline. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie stepped in front of Walter,"
Brown stands out as diplomat
"Texans running back Chris Brown doesn't do enmity and doesn't own a rearview mirror. The Tennessee Titans might have given up on Brown, who briefly asserted himself as their next Eddie George, after five injury-pocked seasons. But Brown has nothing critical to say about his former organization. Somebody else is going to have to fill up the Titans' bulletin board this week. It won't be him. "That's not my style. It's not in my nature," Brown, 28, said, contemplating a year-delayed return to the city of his NFL roots. "I have great memories. I had a great time while I was there. I had to move on sooner or later in my life. Hopefully I can open up a new chapter here." The book stayed closed"
Brown reaches milestones in loss
"One of the few bright spots for the Texans on Sunday was kicker Kris Brown, who reached several milestones at the Raiders’ expense. His three field goals gave him 28 for the season, one more than his old franchise record set last year. (His personal best was 30 for Pittsburgh in 2001, when he attempted 44.) He also connected on his 300th career extra point following the Texans’ first-quarter touchdown. And Brown’s final field goal, a 40-yarder, gave him 117 points on the season, two more than his previous record of 115 last year. His 53-yarder in the second quarter – a remarkable kick considering the weather and the slippery field – was his second of more than 50 in 2008 and his 16th over"
Texans place RB Chris Brown on injured reserve
"After talking with doctors and studying the situation, the Texans finally decided to place running back Chris Brown on injured reserve with a sore back. That move left the Texans with 53 players on their roster – the maximum allowed in the regular season. Brown, 27, has battled back problems all through training camp. It became the latest issue in what has been an injury-plagued career for Brown. He averaged 10 appearances a season over five years with the Titans. After making all but one move Friday, the Texans took the extra time to evaluate Brown. Even when the team finished practice at noon Saturday, coach Gary Kubiak said a decision hadn’t been made. Brown was not on the field during"
