Veteran linebacker Channing Crowder, who was released by the Miami Dolphins less than two weeks ago, announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday. Crowder made the announcement on The Sid Rosenberg Show on Miami-based radio station WQAM (560-AM). "I know I can still play football, but I'm hanging it up," Crowder said. "I woke up and saw my pregnant wife and all the teams that were talking to me and I said, 'I don't want to do it.' " Crowder, who worked out for the New England Patriots last week, was released by the Dolphins following the team's first practice of training camp. Crowder, 27, said in addition to talking with the Patriots, he also received interest from the Buffalo Bills,"

ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that Channing Crowder, released last week by the Dolphins, took a physical with the Patriots on Thursday. Crowder was not offered a contract, Clayton reported. To read Clayton's report go here. Crowder, a six-year starter for the Dolphins, was released Friday following the first practice of training camp. Crowder, the Dolphins' third-round pick out of the University of Florida in 2005, was slated to make $2.5 million in 2011, the final year of a contract he signed in 2008. Crowder, 27, is the son of former Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Crowder. During his six seasons with the Dolphins, Crowder tallied 469 tackles (343 solo), but he only produced 2.5"

The final stat line says that Channing Crowder made 476 tackles during his six seasons with the Miami Dolphins. That he made 2.5 sacks. That he forced four fumbles. Numbers, though, were never the best way to measure Crowder's contribution to the Dolphins. Miami waived him on Thursday then went out and signed Kevin Burnett, formerly of San Diego and, before that, Dallas. Burnett will give the Dolphins more flexibility in their defense and, particularly, more flexibility in their linebacker corps than Crowder provided in recent seasons. Still, Crowder's value came in his intangibles. Karlos Dansby might have described it best on Friday. Asked what intangible he'd miss most about Crowder,"

Channing Crowder's six-year run as a starting inside linebacker for the Miami Dolphins has come to an end. According to a source, the Dolphins have waived the former University of Florida standout to trim salary, putting themselves further under the $120.3 million salary cap. Crowder was slated to make $2.5 million in 2011, the final year of a contract he signed in 2008. During his six seasons with the Dolphins Crowder tallied 469 tackles (343 solo), but he only produced 2.5 sacks and one interception. Crowder has missed 14 games the past four years nursing a handful of leg and groin injuries. Last season he missed the first five games of the season because of a groin injury, but when he"

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder clarified his recent comments about selling game jerseys in college, which has caused quite a stir the past couple days. "You know how big that blew up -- that was hilarious," Crowder told Miami radio station WQAM (560-AM) on Tuesday. "I was trying to say that if you wanted to make money off your name -- why couldn't you make money off your name? And they put it out there like they want to have an investigation on the University of Florida now. "I said hypothetically twice [Sunday]. I said, hypothetically, if I didn't have any more of my jerseys because let's say, hypothetically, some wealthy businessmen liked my play at Florida . . . and they"

Channing Crowder is WELL AWARE he's one of the least popular players on the Miami Dolphins roster. But this former Florida Gator standout also knows he's the most interesting member of the current team, and that's a subject that can not be debated. That's one of the many reasons WQAM (560AM) gave Crowder, a six-year starter for the Dolphins, his own weekend radio show, which launched this Sunday, and will take place from noon to 2 p.m. each Sunday until his real job begins once the NFL ends this lockout. "I know people hate me. When people hate on you you've got to be doing something right," Crowder said Sunday in the shows first hour. Crowder, who contributed 39 tackles in an"

The longer the NFL lockout continues to drag on the more veteran Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder worries about how it will affect the integrity of the sport. After a workout here on Tuesday with some of his teammates, Crowder said the lockout has already had negative effect on preparation for the 2011 season. And once the season does begin – whenever that might be – Crowder predicted there'd be an increase in injuries and a decrease in the quality of play in the NFL. "There's going to be more injuries [and] it's going to be real simple football," Crowder said. "It's going to mess up the integrity of the game because we're used to having those [off-season training activities],"

Cameron Wake's remarkable rise took another substantial leap Tuesday when the Dolphins outside linebacker was named to his first Pro Bowl. Coincidentally, it will be Jan. 30, Wake's 29th birthday. "Best birthday present I've ever gotten," Wake said. Wake, who leads the NFL with 14 sacks entering the season's final weekend, is one of two Dolphins selected to start for the AFC. Left tackle Jake Long, picked for the third time in as many pro seasons, is the other. Wake said he will make good on teammate Channing Crowder's demand that he take him along to Hawaii. Crowder kept telling Wake during the preseason that he was going to have a Pro Bowl year, joking with his fellow linebacker that if"

The Miami Dolphins got one injured starter back when leading receiver Brandon Marshall participated in Wednesday's practice, but it appears the team might have to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday without one of it's top linebackers. Channing Crowder, who missed the first four games of this season because of a groin inside, sat out Wednesday's practice with an undisclosed injury. However, Crowder was wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg. Tim Dobbins was paired with Karlos Dansby as the Dolphins' two starting inside linebackers. The Dolphins also added two inside linebacker to the practice squad, signing West Virginia's Mortty Ivy and re-signing J.D. Folsom, the team's"

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano saw the incident on film. He's going to make sure the league office sees it as well. Monday, Sparano said he would send video of Ravens fullback Le'Ron McClain spitting in the face of linebacker Channing Crowder to NFL officials. Crowder became incensed during a second-half timeout Sunday and after the 26-10 loss in Baltimore said McClain spat on him. "I have enough evidence, yeah," Sparano said. "It's upsetting to me. There are a lot of things that go on in this game from a talking standpoint, a trash-talking standpoint. I'm standing there on the sideline [Sunday] and I had a player talking trash to me from the other team and I didn't say one word to the guy."

So now we know what that flare-up was about late in the third quarter in which Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder appeared ready to fight the entire Ravens offense. " Le'Ron McClain spit in my face," Crowder said of the Ravens' Pro Bowl fullback out of Alabama. ""That's some real ho' s--, so if you talk to him tell him he's a ho'. If he ever comes to Miami, he's got to see me." McClain denied the charge after the game, but Dolphins defensive end Kendall Langford corroborated his teammate's version, saying if they had been on the street he would have let Crowder go after McClain and finish the job. What about the officials? Didn't they see what happened? "They said they didn't see"

He's appeared in 209 games and caught 889 passes for almost 11,500 yards and 60 touchdowns during a 14-year career. Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder appeared to dismiss those numbers when earlier this week he referred to Ravens receiver Derrick Mason as "the old guy." Mason wasn't happy about it. Friday, Mason directed a salvo at Crowder, telling The Baltimore Sun, "He was still peeing on himself when I was playing football." Crowder was 14 — and presumably in control of his bodily functions — when Mason, 36, made his NFL debut in 1997 for the Tennessee Oilers. Mason may be the oldest player on the Ravens' roster, but he's by no means playing like it. Starting opposite Anquan Boldin,"

Don't get him wrong, linebacker Channing Crowder thinks Dan Carpenter is very good at what he does, and he's glad that he's on the Dolphins. But? "He's just a Pro Bowl kicker. Now, he's a great kicker, and I love to have the guy on my team. A 54-yarder, not too many people can do that, you know, with that pressure at the end of the half," Crowder said. "But he's still a kicker. They still practice one day a week and sit in [the locker room] and read books and play with each other all meeting time, so, he's still a kicker.""

Miami Dolphins inside linebacker Channing Crowder dislocated his right thumb during Sunday's 22-14 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. However, he's recently been excluded from the Dolphins' nickel package, leaving the field on obvious passing downs."

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano was waving down the media during Wednesday's practice as if he were stranded on a desert island. Sparano wanted to draw attention to his new practice participant, starting inside linebacker Channing Crowder, who has been sidelined by a groin injury since Aug. 17. Crowder participated on a limited basis Wednesday after giving the groin a month to heal. While he could suffer a setback between now and Sunday night's home opener against the Jets, it's clear the Dolphins are excited about the prospects of getting this five-year starter back on the field. "The stretch lines were a little quiet for a while. That changed today," Sparano said, referring to Crowder's gift"

Channing Crowder hasn't practiced since Aug. 17, so it comes as little surprise that the Miami Dolphins have declared their starting inside linebacker out for Sunday's game at Minnesota. The only surprise is that they have done so on Friday afternoon, rather than milking the suspense another 24 hours for competitive reasons. Crowder's injured groin is gradually coming along, however, and his side work with team trainers seems to be gaining in intensity during open practice periods. Hope remains that Crowder will be able to return to the lineup against the team he hates the most (the Jets) and the coach he most enjoys tweaking (Rex Ryan). If I had to bet at this point, I'd say Crowder plays"

As expected, the Miami Dolphins will be without inside linebacker Channing Crowder for Sunday's 1 p.m. regular-season opener at Buffalo. Crowder, battling a groin injury, had been listed as questionable on Friday's final injury report of the week, but word came late Saturday afternoon that Crowder was out and did not fly with the team. Ex-Charger Tim Dobbins, making his Dolphins debut, will take Crowder's place in the starting lineup. Former Cowboy Bobby Carpenter, signed Monday after the Rams released him, is expected to play on third-down packages."

Miami Dolphins inside linebacker Channing Crowder, a team leader whose vocal presence energizes the locker room, has been sent for a second opinion on an undisclosed injury that has sidelined him since Aug. 17. Crowder was on the sideline of Friday's exhibition game against the Falcons but he wasn't in uniform. He hasn't been spotted since, missing practices Sunday and Monday. "What we've done is we've just sent him for another opinion right now," coach Tony Sparano said Monday afternoon. "He's not out here today. Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder bought a hyperbaric chamber during the offseason to help him recover more quickly from a fractured foot he suffered in December. Tuesday, Crowder took a few snaps with the first-team defense. Afterward, Crowder said he's "feeling good" and vowed he'll be cleared to participate in training camp when it opens in August. Dolphins starting inside linebacker Channing Crowder suffered a serious right foot injury during Sunday's 27-20 loss to Houston that will end his season. Crowder hobbled off the field on the defense's first series after suffering a mid-foot injury that has him on crutches and in a walking boot, and will keep the former Gator standout from playing in Sunday's season finale against the Steelers. Crowder, who entered Week 16 with 51 tackles, one sack and one interception, underwent an MRI on Monday, but coach Tony Sparano wouldn't specify the nature of the injury. Jason Taylor credits it to "good cartilage," but the NFL's active sacks leader looks at Cameron Wake with envy sometimes. The former CFL standout, who serves as Taylor and Joey Porter's pass rushing understudy in his first NFL season with the Miami Dolphins, has an admirable ability to stay low, bend his body in an awkward manner and turn the corner to beat opposing offensive tackles. "He's an amazing pass rusher," linebacker Channing Crowder said of Wake, who leads the Dolphins with 16 quarterback pressures.
