Jazz brass planning to talk to Carlos Boozer's agent
"It's not as if any sort of agreement will be reached any time soon. But sometime before their starting power forward becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the Jazz do plan on talking with the Carlos Boozer camp about the possibility of his remaining in Utah, general manager Kevin O'Connor said Monday night. "We've had conversations with everyone's agents throughout the year," O'Connor said, "and I don't think we ever said we'd rule out anything." He didn't say precisely when, but O'Connor did say "sure' when asked if he'll talk with Boozer's agent again before July. "Will we have conversations? Absolutely," he said. The Jazz may even present a formal contract proposal to keep ..."
Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer enjoy short respite
"His Jazz had been leading by double digits throughout the second half, and still were up by 14 when starting point guard Deron Williams and starting power forward Carlos Boozer exited with a minute-and-a-half to go in Wednesday night's 115-104 win at Detroit. But three Jazz turnovers preceded the sub-outs, and particularly the last — Andrei Kirilenko's — had coach Jerry Sloan steaming. Twenty-three seconds later and Detroit now within 11, Sloan called back end-of-the-bench reserves Sundiata Gaines and Kyrylo Fesenko after their ever-so-brief appearances — telling both "It's not your fault" — and re-inserted Williams and Boozer. "I was so surprised," said Williams, who wound up having to ..."
Boozer new sweet home?
"When the Jazz play the Bulls on Tuesday night in Chicago, Carlos Boozer makes his first appearance at the United Center since openly talking about playing for the Bulls last summer. Boozer says he won't be distracted by playing a team which might be one of his most ardent suitors when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. "My thing right now is trying to get my team as high up in the conference standings as we can get," Boozer said Monday morning's practice. "The rest of that stuff will take care of itself this summer. I don't have any worries about the Bulls or their organization at all. Right now, I just want our team to win -- period.""
Boozer named Player of the Month
"Carlos Boozer might have been passed over for the All-Star Game, but the Jazz forward on Monday was selected as Western Conference Player of the Month for February. It was the second time Boozer has been named conference Player of the Month after he was honored for his play in November 2007. Boozer averaged 21.2 points and 13.0 rebounds as the Jazz went 10-3 in February. Boozer was selected as the conference Player of the Week last week after leading the Jazz to a 4-0 trip coming back from the All-Star break. Boozer's month was highlighted by his 22-point, 23-rebound effort in the Jazz's Feb. 21 comeback victory in Portland."
Utah Jazz must sign free agent; Boozer named player of month
"Facing a Thursday deadline for adding a requisite 13th player to their roster, Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor on Monday remained hopeful a good-match free agent would be become available. But he wasn't certain that would happen. "If not," O'Connor said, "we'll go in another direction." And that would mean calling up a prospect from the NBA Development League, at least for now. Teams had until late Monday night to waive players in time for them to be eligible for postseason play with another club. Most intriguing to the Jazz among those waived during the day Monday — a list that includes center Mark Blount, who hasn't played all season with Minnesota, and Washington guard Mike James — ..."
Boozer's terrific run causing amnesia
"I want to be great. I want to improve, get better, prove to people who I am, what I'm about, what I can do. ... "This is my livelihood. ... I'm a leader. We have other guys who are leaders, too. I've worked my tail off to get back. I'm more comfortable with everything this year. I'm prepared to be more vocal, to make things happen, to take more risks. ... I want to be able to show people my stuff. I'm eager. "I'm all about hard work. People don't really know me. Hopefully, they'll get to know me better this season. You can always do better. You get out of it what you put into it. I'm optimistic. If we play defense in the fourth quarter, when it counts, we'll be good." Carlos Boozer ..."
Resurgent Boozer steps up
"Not even a week removed from the trade deadline, Carlos Boozer is on his way to validating the Jazz's decision to keep him for the remainder of the season, answering the call in the four games since general manager Kevin O'Connor's phone stopped ringing. The reigning Western Conference Player of the Week, Boozer helped the Jazz shrug off a 13-point deficit in the third quarter Wednesday and finished with 33 points and 16 rebounds on 13-for-16 shooting in a 102-93 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. Boozer scored 14 points in the third quarter, which the Jazz won 31-16 to climb back in the game. Kyle Korver hit four three-pointers in the fourth quarter and had 18 points while Deron ..."
Carlos Boozer says he's relaxed, at peace
"Carlos Boozer likes the state he's currently in. Both of 'em, actually. So don't be shocked if you hear Boozer whistling the tune of Bobby McFerrin's "Don't worry, be happy" tune — he is in a good state of mind right now. And don't be surprised if you see an "I (heart) Utah" bumper sticker on his car, either — he's also enjoying the actual state he's playing in. Before his 33-point, 16-rebound explosion in Wednesday night's win, Boozer reiterated that sentiment in the morning after telling a national television audience Tuesday — while a guest on ESPN's "Jim Rome is Burning" — that he is enjoying this Jazz season and hopes his stay here will continue after his contract ends this summer. ..."
Give ball to Carlos Boozer in 2nd half, and he delivers
"Carlos Boozer had a perfect shooting night Wednesday in the first half against the Charlotte Bobcats at EnergySolutions Arena. The Utah Jazz power forward went 6-for-6 from the field and made his only free throw. Still, Utah trailed by 11 at the half. The solution to the Jazz's first-half offensive problems seemed simple. They just needed to get Boozer the ball more often. "(Boozer) was great the whole game," said Jazz point guard Deron Williams. "He was 6-for-6 in the first half. We needed to get him the ball more. We came out and did that in the second half." Boozer scored 14 points in the third quarter alone as the Jazz erased Charlotte's lead and then held on in the fourth for a 102-93 ..."
Boozer named Western Conference player of the week
"The NBA announced today that Jazz forward Carlos Boozer was named the Western Conference player of the week for games played from Feb. 15-21, marking the second time this season Boozer has received the award. This is his fifth Player of the Week award (fourth with Jazz) in his eight seasons in the NBA. Boozer averaged 20.0 points, 15.5 rebounds (second in the West) and 3.8 assists."
Carlos Boozer says he may stay with team
"Five and roughly two-thirds seasons after he arrived, Carlos Boozer — the subject of more trade rumors over the years than the New York Stock Exchange — remains in Utah. Now, again, he's talking about sticking around even longer — and he even sounds serious about it. "I think it's a great possibility," Boozer said after scoring 30 points and grabbing 16 rebounds — his 34th double-double this season — in Friday's win at Golden State. "We'll find out in July," he added. "I'm not going to think about that, worry about that. We've still got 20-something games, playoffs and a whole lot of basketball left. I'll worry about that when the time is right." Looking back, Boozer blew off Thursday's ..."
Ronnie Brewer traded to Memphis, Carlos Boozer stays
"Despite all of the talk and rumors since last summer, Carlos Boozer did not get shipped out of Utah by the NBA trade deadline after all. Miami's last-ditch effort to obtain the power forward didn't materialize, so Boozer will remain with the Jazz for the rest of the season. The same can't be said, however, for Ronnie Brewer, who had his career re-routed to Memphis after being swapped shortly before the NBA's 1 p.m. trade deadline Thursday. Along with salary relief, the Jazz will receive the Grizzlies' 2011 protected first-round pick in exchange for their starting shooting guard of the past 2-1/2 years. Utah now has two weeks to pick up a 13th player to fill the NBA's roster requirement. ..."
Heat, Jazz talk Boozer
"The Miami Heat have opened discussions with the Utah Jazz on a Carlos Boozer deal in advance of Thursday's 3 p.m. deadline, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources told ESPN.com that Miami, with its courting of Amare Stoudemire fading, turned its attention to another marquee frontcourt player in its ongoing quest to keep star guard Dwyane Wade happy before Wade becomes a free agent July 1. But after the teams commenced talks Thursday, one source with knowledge of Utah's thinking said it was "unlikely" that the Heat could offer enough to tempt the Jazz to back off its long-held stance against trading Boozer this season. Armed with the expiring contracts of Udonis Haslem and Quentin ..."
Sources: Heat unable to acquire Boozer
"The Miami Heat spent the final hour-plus before the NBA's Thursday afternoon trading deadline trying to convince the Utah Jazz to surrender Carlos Boozer, according to NBA front-office sources. The Jazz, though, would not relent before the trade buzzer sounded, one source close to the process told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher. One source with knowledge of Utah's thinking told ESPN.com from the start of Thursday's discussions that a trade was "unlikely," but the teams were still talking entering the last half-hour before the deadline hit. ESPN.com reported earlier Thursday that the Heat and Jazz had opened discussions on a Boozer deal. Yahoo! Sports reported that the Wizards were ..."
Boozer will be hanging around
"For all the interest in their locker room as to the latest trade-deadline news, the Jazz are expecting today to pass uneventfully, with nothing more than a morning practice and afternoon flight to Oakland, Calif., for Friday's game at Golden State. Barring a major development, the Jazz today will commit themselves to paying the luxury tax for the first time in franchise history as well as having Carlos Boozer finish the season in Utah, something Boozer has expected for weeks, if not months. "I'm ready to go, looking forward to it," Boozer said. "We've got a great chance to hopefully get in that second seed and if we keep plugging away, I like our chances going into the playoffs, too." ..."
Carlos Boozer doesn't expect Jazz to be making a trade
"If Jazz power forward Carlos Boozer's sense on the subject is spot-on, Jazz trade-talk watchers can pack up. Go home. Turn out the lights, the party's over. "I would be surprised if we did anything," Boozer said Monday, three days before the NBA's annual in-season trade deadline. "I don't see us making a move. I see us staying put, holding pretty tight, seeing what we can do. If I had to make an educated guess, that would be my guess." That in mind, Boozer — the subject of some trade chatter between the Jazz and other teams in recent weeks and months, but none of substance that managed to make its way to the public rumor mill during the just-completed NBA All-Star Weekend — isn't at all ..."
Williams, Boozer on Team USA preliminary roster
"Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz were named Wednesday to the United States national team's preliminary roster. Twenty-five other players join Williams and Boozer as candidates for Team USA, which will compete in this summer's World Championships in Turkey and the 2012 Olympics in London. Nine members of the team that won the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics have been invited back, including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Carmelo Anthony. Williams and Boozer also played in Beijing. The only players not returning for another shot at Olympic gold are Jason Kidd, Michael Redd and Tayshaun Prince. USA Basketball chairman ..."
Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith not interested in renting Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer
"Magic GM Otis Smith has bad news for all those fans who might dream of the club renting a Chris Bosh or a Carlos Boozer for the stretch run to a possible title shot. Smith said Wednesday that he has no plans to trade for a star player who is in the last year of his contract. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 18. "The only way you think about that is if you have injuries," Smith said. Smith reiterated that he isn't planning on making any trades. Bosh, power forward for the Toronto Raptors, and Boozer, power forward for the Utah Jazz, can be free agents this summer and seen as likely candidates to leave their current teams. Asked if he thought the Magic were good enough to return to the Finals ..."
Nine gold medalists added to U.S. national team roster
"LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat) and Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) joined six others from the reigning Olympic champions who are among 27 players on the U.S. national team roster. The players chosen Wednesday will be candidates for this summer's world championships and the 2012 Olympics in London. Also returning from the team that ended the Americans' eight-year gold medal drought in major competitions are: Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors), Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets), Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets), Deron Williams (Utah Jazz) and Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz)."
Carlos Boozer plays like All-Star in win over Clippers
"An All-Star slight didn't hurt the Jazz. But it was their bench that bailed them out Tuesday night, when Utah rallied from 11 points down in the third quarter and four at the start of the fourth to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 109-99 at the sparsely filled Staples Center and extend its winning streak to nine. "I'll tell you one thing: Ronnie Price got us that lead all by himself, man, and we took off from the there," said Carlos Boozer, who led the Jazz with a 34-point, 14-rebound double-double one night after learning Clippers center Chris Kaman and not he had been named an NBA All-Star sub in place of injured Portland guard Brandon Roy. "We stuck together as a group of guys, believed in ..."
L.A.'s Chris Kaman, not Carlos Boozer, late All-Star addition
"With word out that a replacement would be needed for injured Portland shooting guard Brandon Roy at Sunday's NBA All-Star Game in Texas, Jazz point guard Deron Williams — an All-Star himself this season — figured teammate Carlos Boozer was the obvious choice. "He should be in," Willliams said prior to practice Monday. "Personally, I don't see who else could make it over him." NBA commissioner David Stern saw otherwise. A few hours after Williams spoke, Stern on Monday tapped center Chris Kaman of the Los Angeles Clippers — the Jazz's opponent tonight in their second-to-last game before the All-Star break — as Roy's replacement. That being the case, and unless another Western Conference ..."
Booz plays pivotal role down the stretch
"It took the majority of the game for it to happen, but by the time Utah polished off Denver on Saturday night, Carlos Boozer again looked like Carlos Boozer. Boozer, back after missing three games with a moderately strained and slightly torn right calf muscle, made several key plays in the final minutes of Utah's 116-106 win. His strong finish featured a fight for a loose ball that resulted in a layup, a steal, two rebounds and a score on a putback. Boozer recorded his 30th double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. He shot 8-for-11 while dealing with some foul trouble. "I felt great," Boozer said. "I think I'm going to continue to improve. My leg felt strong enough and ..."
Return to form
"Carlos Boozer returned from his calf injury. Paul Millsap returned to the bench. The Utah Jazz continued their winning ways. Boozer and Millsap combined for 35 points and 19 rebounds Saturday night, helping Utah score a 116-106 win over Denver at EnergySolutions Arena. The Jazz's eighth straight win came in Boozer's first game since he suffered strained calf on Jan. 27 against Portland. "I felt great," said Boozer, who finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. "I think I'm going to continue to get better and better." Boozer played 34 minutes in his comeback game, despite early foul trouble. "He did OK," coach Jerry Sloan said. "He hasn't been able to practice [except] a day or so. ..."
Carlos Boozer practiced, likely to play Saturday
"A couple of hairy problems seem to be under control for the Utah Jazz. For one thing, Carlos Boozer made it through his first full practice with the team on Friday morning. That means the two-time All-Star power forward is optimistic he will play in tonight's big Northwest Division showdown with the Denver Nuggets after missing three games with a strained right calf. "I'm doing well," Boozer said prior to Friday's workout. "All is well. ... As long as it feels great, I'll play (today)." Officially, Boozer will be a game-time decision. Something that won't be there for the 7 p.m. tipoff — and what literally had to be considered the hairier problem — is Deron Williams' bushy beard. The point ..."
Carlos Boozer is targeting Saturday return
"He said he felt "a little too tight, a little too sore" to play in Wednesday's win over Portland. But Carlos Boozer, injured one week earlier at Portland, continues to eye Saturday's home game against Denver for a return from his moderately strained and slightly torn right calf muscle injury. "I'm feeling good. Feeling good," the Jazz's usual starting power forward said Wednesday. "I'm working out, getting better. "There's still a little tightness in it," Boozer added, "but it's gotten a lot stronger in the last couple days. It's still on course." Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, meanwhile, seems to have grown increasingly tired of queries about whether backup and replacement-starter Paul Millsap ..."
Boozer targets Saturday return
"With Carlos Boozer targeting Saturday's game against Denver to return from his strained right calf, the Jazz again will face the question of what to do with Paul Millsap , who has starred so far in Boozer's absence. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan suggested Millsap would resume coming off the bench once Boozer returns. Millsap is coming off games of 25 points, nine rebounds and four blocks against Dallas and 32 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists against Sacramento. "It shouldn't be a problem, I wouldn't think, because the bottom line is winning," Sloan said. "If there's anything other than that involved in it, then nothing ever works in this league, whenever that becomes a focal point of 'I'm ..."
Boozer, Brewer both miss practice due to injuries
"Carlos Boozer and Ronnie Brewer both missed Utah Jazz practice this morning because of injuries. Brewer has a bruised back — an injury that happened in Monday night's 104-92 win over the Dallas Mavericks. The Jazz's starting shooting guard will be a game-time decision for Wednesday night's home game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Boozer, meanwhile, continues to nurse his strained right calf, which has kept him out of the last two Jazz victories in the team's six-game winning streak."
Boozer says calf getting better
"Carlos Boozer continued to express optimism Sunday about his recovery from a moderate right calf strain and suggested that it was possible he might be able to play by the end of the week. "I think I have a shot at it if it continues to get better," Boozer said. He appeared on the court before Jazz practice, but said he was planning only to ride a stationary bike and possibly work out on an elliptical machine and lift weights. Boozer suffered the calf strain in the third quarter of Wednesday's victory in Portland. "I think soon -- I mean, I'm not going to put a date on it -- but I think soon I'll be back out there if it keeps progressing the way it has," Boozer said. "It's gotten a lot ..."
NBA All-Star teams are set, but here's a dozen more who just missed out
"Our long national nightmare is over — Deron Williams is an NBA All-Star. OK, that's taking it a bit too far. Most Americans simply don't care one way or the other. But, for some reason, many Utah Jazz fans seemed personally hurt by the lack of recognition received by their beloved point guard the previous three seasons. Now the league's coaches have righted that injustice — by naming D-Will as one of the seven reserves on the Western Conference squad that will play on Valentine's Day in Dallas, where Williams grew up and went to high school. "I am very honored and excited to be named to the All-Star Team," Williams said in a released statement after the announcement while in West Virginia ..."
With Williams and Boozer absent, the 2 reserves propel Utah to victory
"The wait for Paul Millsap has been going on 31/2 seasons, compared to two weeks for Sundiata Gaines. Neither one, though, needed to be reminded about seizing the opportunity Friday with the Jazz missing Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams. Millsap matched his career-high with 32 points, plus 14 rebounds and seven assists, while Gaines posted 12 points, three steals and played the entire fourth quarter in a 101-94 you-gotta-love-it-baby victory over the Sacramento Kings. It was a feel-good night all around at EnergySolutions Arena as the Jazz raised a banner in honor of longtime broadcaster Hot Rod Hundley and extended their current winning streak to a season-best five games, while improving ..."
Boozer seeing some progress with injury rehab
"By the time he left EnergySolutions Arena after the Jazz's victory Friday night, Carlos Boozer was walking without the crutches he used earlier in the day at the pregame shootaround and said he didn't think his strained right calf was a significant injury. "I won't know until the pain's gone," Boozer said. "When the pain's gone, I'll be able to maybe jog a little bit, see how it feels. So hopefully the next couple days, I'll be able to do a little bit more." The Jazz announced that Boozer was suffering from a moderate strain and would be reevaluated Monday after undergoing a weekend of treatment. A moderate strain would be the second of three degrees of severity among strained calves. ..."
Jazz awaiting results on Boozer's calf
"No matter what results come back this morning from the MRI exam that Carlos Boozer underwent late Thursday afternoon on his strained right calf, the Jazz can look forward to playing shorthanded tonight against Sacramento. With Deron Williams missing the game to attend a funeral, Kyrylo Fesenko still recovering from a sprained ankle and Boozer potentially out as well, the Jazz recalled Kosta Koufos after a one-game stay with the NBA Development League's Utah Flash. They will be able to dress at least 10 players tonight with the addition of Koufos. As for Boozer, Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said any early assessments of his strained calf would be purely speculative. Boozer was ..."
Jazz win the game, but lose Boozer
"There was no way it was going to be as easy for the Jazz as it appeared in the opening six minutes of Wednesday's game, when it seemed they were going to deal the Portland Trail Blazers an 80-point loss as part of 80's throwback night. The Jazz undressed the Blazers -- sorry, Greg Oden -- in storming to leads of 12-0 and 21-2 and needed every bit of their fast start to hold on for a 106-95 victory at the Rose Garden as Portland closed within five points twice in the fourth quarter. "I thought it was our best start of the season, by far, especially on the road to come out like that," said Deron Williams, who led with 24 points, seven assists and five rebounds as the Jazz won their fourth ..."
Jazzmen await ballot count
"Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer only can hope their last impression was enough to convince Western Conference coaches that they deserve to be chosen as reserves to next month's All-Star Game. With coaches required to submit their choices by Tuesday afternoon, Williams (18 points, 11 assists) and Boozer (21 points, 20 rebounds) made strong statements in Monday's victory over Phoenix, which lifted the Jazz to fourth in the conference. "We came from out of the playoffs a couple times to get back where we are right now," said Boozer, now averaging 19.4 points and 10.8 rebounds. "Hopefully, we're deserving enough, and that'd be a huge honor for both of us.""
Boozer and Williams making a case for all-star selections
"One, power forward Carlos Boozer, is quite anxious to go. The other, point guard Deron Williams, claims to no longer care. Either way, both will know by Thursday night's selection show on TNT if they've been selected to play in the Feb. 14 NBA All-Star Game. Until then, it's a waiting game for the Jazz's marquee pair. "I think we deserve (two)," Boozer said Tuesday. "I think we do (too)," Williams added. "But, you know, it's up to the coaches." And no matter what they do in tonight's visit with the Portland Trail Blazers, it won't impact — either way — the opinion Western Conference coaches have of the two when it comes to casting votes for All-Star Game reserves. That's because ballots ..."
Jazz should finish season, Boozer era the way they are
"So the Jazz are halfway through another season -- "Thank God," Carlos Boozer said -- and everything suggests the organization should just start over, and soon. The team is barely outside the Western Conference's playoff cut, Boozer is merely auditioning for other teams, there's not much chance of catching Denver in the Northwest Division and the second-half schedule is swayed toward the road, where the Jazz continue to struggle. Why, then, do I keep believing this season is worth saving, that the best strategy is to play out the Boozer era through its conclusion in the spring and that this team could position itself for a playoff run? Maybe, like Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor, I ..."
Jazz, Boozer face trade uncertainty
"A month from today, Carlos Boozer will wake up with the uncertainty over for himself and the Jazz. Maybe he will be in Oakland, Calif., where the Jazz on Feb. 19 will play the Golden State Warriors in the third stop of a four-game trip. Maybe Boozer will be in Chicago or Miami, the two teams to which he expressed his desire to be traded last summer. Maybe Boozer will be in Dallas or Detroit, two teams to which he already has been linked in trade talk this season. As the Jazz prepare to open the second half of their season, beginning with Wednesday's game against the Spurs, they do so facing a month of unpredictability in regard to Boozer ahead of the Feb. 18 trade deadline. Asked after ..."
Dallas offered all-about-money trade for Boozer
"According to ESPN.com, Dallas early last week "made a long-shot attempt to convince Utah to part with (ex-Cavs forward) Carlos Boozer by proposing an all-about-money trade that would have provided the Jazz with (a) sizable chunk of payroll relief." But, the Web site also reported with attribution to unidentified sources, "the Jazz weren't about to be tempted." The proposed deal: "Using Drew Gooden's partially guaranteed contract and two players it wound up trading to New Jersey days later — (ex-Jazz forward) Kris Humphries and Shawne Williams — Dallas could (have assembled) a package of contracts high enough to reach the salary range of Boozer's ($12.66 million) expiring contract to make ..."
Boozer trade rumors alive in cyberspace
"Trade rumors involving the Jazz seem to fill the Internet more than pop-up ads these days, and point guard Deron Williams thinks he has one way to make them disappear. "We have to be more consistent," he said, "and then the talks will go away." Or will they, with the NBA's Feb. 18 trade deadline looming? Some of the latest, much of its regarding two-time All-Star Carlos Boozer and his expiring contract: "Having lost 13 straight games, the perimeter-heavy Detroit Pistons would like to get their hands on Boozer," ESPN.com's Chris Broussard reported Tuesday. "A Boozer-for-Rip Hamilton trade works, but Utah doesn't want to take back the three years, $38 million remaining on Hamilton's ..."
Thrive when Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer play at top level
"Toward the end of the fourth quarter on Monday, somebody on press row jokingly wondered aloud if it was the last night of All-Star voting. There were, after all, only about four minutes remaining and the Utah Jazz had a plenty-cushy lead of about 30, yet Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer remained on the court. On this night — when all went right for Utah and both looked like legitimate All-Stars in a 118-89 win over the Miami Heat — who could blame the Jazz's two top candidates for wanting to stay on the court as long as possible? "It was," Williams admitted, "a great night to play." Great was among many a propos adjectives one could use to describe the play of Utah's stars, too. Boozer ..."
Utah Jazz players still confident they can put it together
"Carlos Boozer, usually one to smile and joke with teammates while warming up before practices, was in a rather somber mood before Tuesday's team workout. The Utah Jazz's current slump is weighing heavily on the power forward's mind. "I'm frustrated. I think we have a lot more capability on this team," Boozer said the morning after a disappointing 91-87 home loss to New Orleans. "I think we have a group of guys that can compete for a title, and right now we're not looking like that team." The 18-16 Jazz, rather, are looking an awful lot — emphasis on awful — like a lottery team that they're currently positioned to become. Boozer says the Jazz, who've lost five of seven games, need to focus ..."
D-Wade has made a living from beating Jazz in Miami
"After losing Monday night in Orlando, a victory here tonight in Miami is requisite if the Jazz want a winning record from their five-game pre-Christmas trip. "There's a lot of pressure on us to have a good performance," point guard Deron Williams said. The catch, though: The Jazz have lost 10 of their last 11 vs. the Heat, and have lost six straight times in Miami, including last season's triple-overtime game. The root cause of Utah's woes in the land of Dwyane Wade? "It's all DWade, man," forward Carlos Boozer said. Wade scored 50 against the Jazz here last season, 20 the season before that, 25 in March of 2006, 39 in November of 2004 and 31 the previous February."
Boozer still keeping options open for next year
"Even with Miami a chilly 75 or so on Tuesday — sorry, socked-in Salt Lake City — the place has its appeal. Beautiful people. Beautiful water. And, yes, beautiful weather. Palm trees. Sand. And, don't forget, no state income tax. No wonder Carlos Boozer has long been lobbying to play here, including a radio campaign when he was trying to get traded to the Miami Heat — a team with which he's frequently been linked — over the summer. It hasn't happened yet, but the possibility of Boozer playing in one of his preferred locales — and the city that the one-time Alaska resident now calls home — will increase exponentially in the offseason. If, that is, Miami doesn't target and land instead ..."
Does the Heat even need another power forward?
"Carlos Boozer arrives with the Jazz on Wednesday at AmericanAirlines Arena mere months after extolling the virtues of playing in South Florida on the local airwaves. Since then, the talk mostly has quieted, with Boozer putting together his typical impressive numbers for Utah and it appearing that the Olympic forward won't be going anywhere until next summer's free agency. What hasn't changed is the fact that Boozer will be available in 2010 free agency and that he has relationships with both Beijing gold teammate Dwyane Wade and the Arison family, because of the Duke ties. What has changed is the significant strides made by Michael Beasley from his first season to his second. So while ..."
Hawks defense baffles Jazz
"At one point in the third quarter, Utah coach Jerry Sloan felt obliged to bench all five players he had on the floor. The Jazz's starters had been outscored 64-31. Carlos Boozer scored just six points and Deron Williams two — with a combined eight turnovers. The showing was so odorous, Williams felt obliged to say he was sorry. The first expression of contrition came in the visiting locker room at Philips Arena, after the Atlanta Hawks — who at one point late in the third led by as many as 32 points — finished polishing off the Jazz 96-83 on Friday night. "It was a bad game," Williams told reporters. "It's one of those games you try to forget about and just move on. "We apologize to all ..."
Williams tells Barkley Boozer situation not an issue
"The question came up late Thursday, when Jazz point guard Deron Williams stopped by TNT's Atlanta studios to appear on the cable network's NBA postgame show. It came from Charles Barkley, who recently has been rather outspoken on the subject of Jazz forward Carlos Boozer and his expiring-after-this-season contract. Said Barkley: "There has to be tension in your locker room. When you're on a team, everyone has to buy into 'we're trying win' and you think you're going to be together for a long time. Clearly the elephant in the room is Carlos Boozer, who is going to be a free agent and who you guys are probably not going to re-sign. Is there talk or tension about that at all?" Answered ..."
Jazz on road as Boozer plays at an All-Star level
"It's been a year since the Utah Jazz played that memorable game in New Jersey and since Carlos Boozer made that even more memorable statement. Now the Jazz are back at the Meadowlands where they'll take on the two-win Nets tonight, almost exactly a year after rallying from 22 points down for a riveting road win. Some things have certainly changed since that December night in 2008 when the then-injured Boozer proclaimed to an ESPN.com reporter: "I'm opting out. No matter what, I'm going to get a raise regardless." To name one change, Boozer indeed got his raise and now makes $12.66 million in the sixth and final year of his Jazz contract. He also changed his mind and didn't opt out, after ..."
Charles Barkley says Carlos Boozer is big problem for Jazz
"If you ask Charles Barkley — and his buddies on the TNT set did late Thursday night — the Utah Jazz have a big problem. And the Round Mound wasn't talking about Saturday's home game against the Los Angeles Lakers, who walloped the Jazz 101-77 at the Staples Center on Wednesday night. So how big is this other problem? According to the ever-opinionated Barkley, the problem is so big it weighs 266 pounds, stands 6 feet 9 inches tall and is hindering the Jazz's chances to be a serious contender this season. It also has a name: Carlos Boozer. Yes, the same one who is the reigning Western Conference player of the week and who has looked like an All-Star the past month or so. "(The Jazz) are a ..."
Boozer named Western Conference player of the week
"Carlos Boozer's hot streak got the NBA's attention. The league honored the Jazz power forward Monday as its Western Conference player of the week for games played last Monday through Sunday. It's the fifth time that the two-time NBA All-Star been named player of the week, the others coming in the 2007-08 (once), 2006-07 (twice) and 2003-04 (in the Eastern Conference, while with Cleveland) seasons. Boozer averaged 26.7 points on 62.7 percent shooting to go with 13.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game during the week — including a season-high 35 points in Utah's 96-87 win over Indiana on Friday. Utah went 2-1 during the stretch, but had its four-game win streak snapped Saturday at ..."
Boozer named conference player of the week
"Carlos Boozer's remarkable play the first month of the season has drawn national notice, with Boozer selected Monday as the Western Conference Player of the Week for the third time in his Jazz career. Boston's Kevin Garnett was the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Boozer previously won the award Dec. 18, 2006, as well as Nov. 6, 2006. He was Western Conference Player of the Month in November 2007. Boozer was selected an All-Star in both 2007 and 2008. He averaged 26.7 points and 13.7 rebounds while shooting 62.7 percent as the Jazz beat Memphis and Indiana and lost to Minnesota last week."
