Brent Celek News & Rumors

Eagles TE Celek a passenger in car involved in DUI crash
"State police say Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek was a passenger in a car involved in an early-morning DUI crash. No one was hurt in Thursday morning's crash on a highway off-ramp near the team's stadium in South Philadelphia. Police say the car's driver was driving too fast when he spun out and hit a concrete barrier around 2:30 a.m. The driver failed field sobriety testing and was arrested on DUI charges."
Celek undergoes successful surgeries
"Eagles tight end Brent Celek underwent successful surgery to repair a sports hernia and a torn labrum in his left hip. Celek's sports hernia surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers at Jefferson at the Navy Yard and his torn labrum repair was performed by Dr. John Salvo at the Rothman Institute. Despite injuries, Celek finished second on the team with 62 catches for 811 yards."
Celek becomes offensive threat
"In 2009, Brent Celek enjoyed the mother of breakout seasons. His receptions nearly tripled from 27 to 76. His receiving yards skyrocketed from 318 to 971. His eight touchdowns quadrupled his previous career total. He was a young, brash, up-and-coming NFL tight end whose penchant for inviting contact and wearing emotions on his jersey sleeve endeared him to fans and injected renewed enthusiasm into an offense bolstered by an aging quarterback and broken-down running back."
Eagles tight end Celek confident in new NFL CBA
"Brent Celek thinks we have nothing to worry about, that a collective bargaining agreement eventually will emerge from those federally mediated NFL negotiating sessions down in Washington. "I know it's going to get done in time. There's too much at stake for both sides," Celek said yesterday. "They'll probably just keep extending" the deadline, currently set for Friday. "We'll see. I don't see there being a lockout. If there is, I'll be really surprised." Celek isn't claiming any elaborate inside knowledge. He said like most of us, he is following the talks mostly on Twitter, waiting for the league to be released from the limbo it entered when the talks were extended by a week last Friday,"
Celek is looking like his old self
"Brent Celek just hasn't looked like himself. For most of this season, the Eagles tight end has not resembled the 2009 version, when he caught 76 passes for 971 yards. This season as his receiving numbers have dipped - he's on pace to finish with 40 catches for 456 yards - the question routinely has been, "What's wrong with Celek?" It took a few months and a slight turnaround for Celek to acknowledge that something was wrong. He injured his hamstring in training camp, and that along with an assortment of occupational bumps and bruises carried over into the regular season. "I'm starting to think that," Celek said Friday, a day after the Eagles defeated the Texans, 34-24. "I was getting beat"
Stats don't show how Celek contributes
"Interestingly, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg started his Thursday press conference by saying he thought LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek had played well against Detroit. Obviously, McCoy played well. He rushed for a career-high 120 yards and three touchdowns in the 35-32 win. In doing so, he became the first Eagles running back to rush for three touchdowns in a game in 15 years. Jackson, a receiver, also played well. He caught four passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, and the third-year pro's 45-yard touchdown catch was the 12th of his career to cover 35 or more yards. He has 19 career touchdown catches. However, Celek only caught three passes for 27 yards in"
Celek doesn't seem to be Kolb's favorite target
"In Kevin Kolb's two starts under center last season, Eagles tight end Brent Celek caught 12 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown. Because of Celek's production with Kolb, there was an assumption heading into this season that he would benefit most from the quarterback's promotion. But it hasn't been that way through the first three preseason games. In the starters' six quarters of play, Celek has just four catches for 51 yards. Kolb has targeted him just eight times compared with 17 and 10 for wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson, who each left a game early because of injuries. "It's not like I'm in panic mode or anything," Celek said Monday. "Honestly, I really don't care about"
Brent Celek continues to surprise
"The NFL Scouting Combine of 2007 included 16 tight ends. Brent Celek wasn't one of them. Seven tight ends were selected in the NFL Draft that year before the Philadelphia Eagles picked Celek, the LaSalle High School and University of Cincinnati product. Celek, who returns home with the Eagles Friday for a preseason game against the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium, has proven a lot of people wrong in the last three years. Celek led Philadelphia with 76 receptions last season and is one of the core players the organization is counting on as it moves out of the Donovan McNabb era. Two years removed from an appearance in the NFC championship game, the Eagles have 10 different offensive starters"
Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin fined for hit on Brent Celek
"Safety Ken Hamlin was fined $12,500 by the NFL for hitting a defenseless receiver in the Wild-Card round win against Philadelphia on Saturday. Hamlin hit Eagles tight end Brent Celek in the helmet after an incomplete pass from Donovan McNabb in the first half."
Eagles lock up Celek
"The Eagles, for the second straight week, locked up an important piece of this season's hunt for a playoff berth and Super Bowl title. But they're also building for the future, placing a high price tag on reliability and dependability along with on-field production. One week after adding four years and $18 million to right tackle Winston Justice's contract, the Eagles rewarded tight end Brent Celek with a six-year extension reportedly worth $32 million, with $11 million guaranteed. Celek, a third-year pro in his first full year as a starter, leads the team with 54 receptions and ranks second behind DeSean Jackson with 601 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. The Eagles might need a"
Eagles sign tight end Brent Celek to six-year contract extension
"The Eagles today signed tight end Brent Celek to a six-year contract extension, the team announced. A fifth-round draft choice in 2007, Celek, 24, is tied for seventh in receptions (54), fifth in yards (601), and tied for fourth in touchdowns (5) among NFL tight ends. He leads the Eagles in catches and touchdowns. Last season, Celek led the team with 19 receptions and three touchdowns. He set a franchise playoffs record with his 10-catch performance in the NFC Championship game at Arizona."
