Braydon Coburn News & Rumors

Pronger ill; Coburn has kidney bruise
"When Erik Gustafsson underwent wrist surgery last week, the Flyers knew they were rolling the dice with just six healthy defensemen. Well, the dice came up craps Monday prior to their meeting against the Carolina Hurricanes as Chris Pronger missed the game with a virus, while fellow defenseman Braydon Coburn sat out with an upper-body injury. Technically, Coburn's injury is mid-body. Two sources told CSNPhilly.com that Coburn took a shot to his kidneys but doesn't have any internal organ damage. "We're hoping [Coburn] can be back within a game or two," general manager Paul Holmgren said."
Pronger, Coburn sidelined for Flyers on Monday
"The Flyers will not only be without veteran wing Jaromir Jagr against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday at Wells Fargo Center, but minus defensemen Chris Pronger and Braydon Coburn. While Pronger didn't partake in the team's optional morning skate this morning, Coburn did, so the absence comes as a bit of a surprise. The Flyers recalled defensemen Kevin Marshall and Marc-Andre Bourdon from Adirondack in the American Hockey League and the two players arrived at Wells Fargo Center two hours before game time. Flyers coach Peter Laviolette would not comment on his lineup during his pregame media conference. "We haven't announced anything with regard to lineups," Laviolette told reporters"
Defenseman Coburn receives extension
"Walking through the Flyers dressing room after a recent practice, Brayden Coburn was asked if he'd been getting any sleep. "Sleeping like a baby," the Flyers defenseman shot back with a big smile. "I'm wearing earplugs!" It's been quite a past few weeks for Coburn, who became a first-time father on Oct. 17. Just 23 days after his wife Nadine gave birth to a baby girl named Rory, Coburn hit the jackpot again."
Coburn agrees to 4-year extension with Flyers
"The Flyers will have Brayden Coburn back on the blue line for another four years. The 26-year-old defenseman has agreed to four-year, $18 million contract extension, a league source told CSNPhilly.com. His cap hit is $4.5 million – a very nice bump from his current two-year contract extension that was paying him $3.2 million."
Flyers add Meszaros, Shelley, O'Donnell, retain Coburn
"The Flyers bypassed the marquee free agents on the first day of the signing period and made their biggest news Thursday by acquiring beefy Tampa Bay defenseman Andrej Meszaros for a second-round 2012 draft pick. In a dizzying day of wheeling and dealing, the Flyers re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Braydon Coburn - he received a two-year contract for a cap hit of $3.2 million per season - and signed a pair of free agents: 6-foot-3, 237-pound veteran defenseman Sean O'Donnell and tough-guy winger Jody Shelley, formerly of the Rangers. O'Donnell, soon to be 39, played in Los Angeles last season and won a Stanley Cup with close friend Chris Pronger in Anaheim in 2007. He signed a"
Flyers' deals for Coburn, others, make defensive corps priciest in NHL
"The best way to make a goaltender in today's NHL look good - without paying the biggest name the most money - is to have the best defense. By opening up their checkbook on the first day of free agency yesterday, the Flyers did just that by assembling the most expensive defense corps in the NHL. They did so with the additions of Andrej Meszaros in a trade from Tampa Bay and the signings of Braydon Coburn and Sean O'Donnell. The Flyers now have $22.9 million tied up next season among six defensemen. Most of the NHL's top teams spent money on defense yesterday: Pittsburgh shelled out $45 million in long-term deals for Paul Martin and Zybnek Michalek; while New Jersey added Henrik Tallinder"
Coburn out with ankle injury
"According to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, defenseman Braydon Coburn will miss tonight's game against the Bruins in Boston with an ankle injury. He is being listed as day-to-day. Ole-Kristian Tollefsen is expected to take Coburn's spot in the lineup tonight and will either skate alongside Kimmo Timonen or Oskars Bartulis. If Tollefsen plays on the third pairing, Ryan Parent will move up onto the second pairing with Timonen."
Flyers switch Coburn to left
"It was a subtle move, but one the Flyers hope will jump-start struggling defenseman Braydon Coburn. In last night's game against Boston, coach John Stevens flip-flopped the positions of Coburn and defensive partner Kimmo Timonen, a pair of lefty shooters.Timonen went to the right, Coburn to the left - which is where they were primarily stationed when they excelled as a duo two years ago.Stevens said Coburn seems to play better on the left."Sometimes, guys are just more comfortable on one side," Stevens said before the game. "I'm not saying he can't play there [on the right side]; he's just played his best hockey on the left.""
