Brandon Lloyd News & Rumors

New receiver Brandon Lloyd off to good start with Pats
"Patriots receiver Brandon Lloyd darted up the left sideline and peered back for a pass before turning around and extending his arms to make an acrobatic catch. Sure, it was only practice, and the defense was lined up on a different field, but that spurt of electricity brought some life to the advertisement. Lloyd can be a playmaker and an outside threat who can thrive in the Patriots' high-octane offense. The product still has to hit the game field, but Lloyd got off to a strong start during the Pats' first open OTA yesterday. Heavily targeted by quarterbacks, he showed the capability to make plays outside the numbers."
Pats make it official
"The Patriots announced four previously reported transactions, making official the free agent signings of receiver Brandon Lloyd, defensive end Jonathan Fanene, center/guard Dan Connolly and tight end Daniel Fells. Details were not available on Connolly's contract, but Lloyd, Fanene and Fells all signed three-year agreements. In addition, the team released linebacker Christian Cox, who was injured in camp. Patriots pass rusher Mark Anderson took two more free-agent visits, meeting yesterday with the Ravens and the Bills. A source confirmed the visits but did not say how much interest Baltimore had. The Bills announced their visit and said Anderson is meeting with doctors today."
Wideouts Brandon Lloyd, Anthony Gonzalez on board
"The Patriots beefed up their receiving corps in a hurry last night, securing a playmaking receiver who had made no secret about his desire to join the team and another who had flown under the radar. The Pats agreed to a deal with free agent wideout Brandon Lloyd, a source confirmed, just hours after signing Anthony Gonzalez, the former Colts receiver and one of Peyton Manning's old favorite targets. The Patriots reached an agreement in principle with ex-Rams receiver Lloyd. The move, easily the team's biggest of the offseason, gives quarterback Tom Brady a much-needed outside receiver to team up with slot machine Wes Welker. A source had previously said Lloyd, 30, communicated to Patriots"
Report: Former 49ers WR Lloyd to visit Santa Clara
"Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss and … Brandon Lloyd? ESPN is reporting that Lloyd, known for his diva-like antics during his forgettable tenure with the 49ers from 2003-05, will pay a free-agent visit to Santa Clara. Lloyd has matured as a person and as a player since San Francisco traded him to the Redskins for a third- and fourth-round pick after the 2005 season. Lloyd, who will turn 31 in July, had 70 catches for 966 yards and five touchdowns last year with the Broncos and the Rams. In 2010, Lloyd had 77 catches, an NFL-best 1,148 yards and 11 touchdowns with the Broncos."
McDaniels influence may make Lloyd a good catch
"The 49ers traded him for a third- and fourth-round pick to the Redskins, who gave Lloyd a six-year contract worth $30 million. After two seasons, coach Joe Gibbs released Lloyd. The Bears signed him to just a one-year contract in 2008, and he was not re-signed after being injured for much of the season. He was a healthy scratch at one point for a team that had no receivers. After his All-Pro-type season, the Broncos traded Lloyd to the Rams for only a conditional sixth-round pick (it turned into a selection in the fifth round). The Rams haven't been very aggressive in re-signing Lloyd, so he'll likely land with his sixth team in nine seasons. That doesn't happen for no reason."
Brandon Lloyd's agent puts Pats on call
"Tom Condon would like to remind the Patriots [team stats] of something his critics in Foxboro have begun to deny about him in whispered voices. Tom Condon is a businessman. If the Patriots want to do business, in this case in pursuit of soon-to-become free agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, that's all that's necessary. No need for rapprochement, a political term that springs from the French word rapprocher, meaning to "bring together." No need for a lovefest and no need trying to undercut him through backdoor whispering campaigns designed to convince his client of the need to fire his agent for a deal to get done in Foxboro. If the Patriots want to get into the Brandon Lloyd business all"
Understanding why the situation around WR Brandon Lloyd got complicated for the Patriots
"The Patriots will be in the market for a receiver this year, and I bet they'll draft at least one (or two), too. After coming up empty with Brandon Tate in 2009, Taylor Price in 2010, and Chad Ochocinco in 2011, it's a priority this year. One obvious possibility is Brandon Lloyd. The former Broncos WR who played last year with the Rams excelled in the Pats(ish) offense, doing so under guru Josh McDaniels. So, now that McDaniels is in New England… ya know, duh. The fact that he said "I'm tied to McDaniels" makes him a likely free agent target. Right? Oh, and having 51 catches for 683 yards and five TDs last year in 11 games in St. Louis makes him look pretty good after he amassed 77 catches"
Rams' Lloyd will follow McDaniels
"Brandon Lloyd has experienced only two victories in 10 games with the Rams. And after leading the NFL in reception yards (1,448) in 2010 as a Denver Bronco, he might not reach 1,000 this season. Nonetheless, Lloyd has been happy as a Ram and says he wants to return to St. Louis next season and beyond. "I would like to stay here," he told the Post-Dispatch. "I've been well-received by the players, by the coaches, by the community. It's been overwhelming; an overwhelmingly warm reception. Coming back to Missouri and St. Louis. I would love to grow with Sam Bradford; that would be awesome. I've never had a true elite-level quarterback in my career." But there's a catch for Lloyd, the Kansas"
Rams reciever Brandon Lloyd has a good rap since leaving 49ers
"Since he left the 49ers, Brandon Lloyd's hip-hop music career has progressed nicely, the wide receiver said Wednesday. His football career isn't too shabby, either. The one-time 49ers wideout led the NFL with 1,448 receiving yards as a member of the Denver Broncos last year. And he already leads the Rams in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches – four – after being traded to St. Louis in mid-October. "He's been terrific," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said during a conference call. "I love the kid as a person – tremendous character. He was a shot in the arm for us, energy-wise, just stretching the field and some of the plays that he can make.""
Lloyd is making an impact with Rams
"Brandon Lloyd faked to the inside as if running a post pattern into the end zone. Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden took the bait. Lloyd stopped, changed directions and headed outside toward the right corner of the end zone. Quarterback Sam Bradford's pass was perfect: touchdown, Rams. "We worked on that play at lot," Lloyd said. "And Josh (McDaniels) was calling that play a touchdown all week. 'We're gonna score on this. We're gonna score on this.' We repped it a lot to make sure that the timing was down between me and Sam, and the protection was right." "It's funny," Bradford said. "Because actually Josh told me (Saturday) night that if he called that play to tell Brandon to get ready to do"
If Lloyd is such an asset, how did Rams get him so cheap?
"QUESTION: The Rams are expecting big things out of wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, whom they picked up in a trade Monday with Denver. However, if Lloyd is an impact player, why were the Broncos willing to part with him simply for a conditional sixth-round draft pick? JIM THOMAS A lot of it has to do with Lloyd's contract status. He's up after this season and the Broncos were concerned he might spend the rest of the year brooding over his lack of a new deal. For all his skill, Lloyd can be high maintenance at times, and until his breakout year of 2010 he has been an underachiever over the course of his NFL career. Lastly, John Fox is a run-oriented head coach and with Tim Tebow now at QB"
