There are some things an NFL running back simply doesn't want to know. "Like how hard I'm getting hit," BenJarvus Green-Ellis said. Yet the Patriots running back has broader interests, both in the future of the game and in the health of those playing it. That's why he'll wear a special chin strap called the "Impact Indicator" for Super Bowl XLVI. Made by Battle Sports Science, the device measures the force and impact of a shot through the chin to the brain, using microsensors to help signal to coaches and trainers when extra attention is required."

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is a bottom-line thinker. He doesn't spend his energy pondering alternate realities. There may not be another player who better embodies coach Bill Belichick's insistence on only worrying about what you can control. Green-Ellis sees four other running backs on the Patriots roster. He easily diagnoses the team's offense as pass-first. Perhaps that's why he doesn't dwell on how his statistics are down from a breakout 2010. And perhaps that's why he doesn't fuss about a lack of carries. "As far as like touches and stuff, you're not going to get that," Green-Ellis said. "We've got five running backs in our backfield, a stable of guys. To just think you're going to come in"
