Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, miffed that Bruce Arians will not return as offensive coordinator, plans to meet with team president Art Rooney II about the matter after playing in the Pro Bowl on Sunday. "When I get back, I'm going to go up to Mr. Rooney's office and ask him what he wants from me, what he wants from this offense, because I think that's a viable question for him," Roethlisberger told the Tribune-Review on Thursday following an AFC practice at Hickam Air Force Base. "He's our owner and our boss, so I really would like to know kind of what he wants and where he sees our offense going because I'd like to tell him where I see us going.""

Lawyers have reached a settlement to end a civil lawsuit filed against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger by a Nevada woman who accused him of raping her during a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe. Cal Dunlap, the Reno lawyer representing the woman, told The Associated Press on Friday that the case has been settled. It is not known if the woman received any money in the settlement. The woman, a former VIP concierge at Harrah's Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino, claimed that Roethlisberger raped her in July 2008 while he was at Lake Tahoe playing in the tournament. She filed the lawsuit in Reno a year later, saying that the two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback lured her to his room"

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger participated in Friday's practice in preparation for Sunday's AFC wild-card game at Denver. Roethlisberger is listed as probable, but continued to limp noticeably in practice. Roethlisberger played in two of the last three regular-season games with a high ankle sprain. Charlie Batch is expected to get the start if Roethlisberger is unable to go before the 4:30 p.m. kickoff at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium. Center Maurkice Pouncey did not practice for the second day in a row and is unlikely to start against the Broncos. Guard Doug Legursky would take Pouncey's spot at center. Also, Legursky (shoulder), linebackers James Harrison (toe) and LaMarr"

Fewer than 24 hours after Mike Tomlin said Ben Roethlisberger's left high-ankle sprain was "no worse" than it was before the Cleveland game, the Steelers quarterback revealed that he suffered a setback against the Browns that left him limited during Wednesday's practice. Roethlisberger said he aggravated the injury on a third-quarter play against the Browns, but it wasn't bad enough for him to leave the game. He is expected to start when the Steelers play Denver on Sunday in an AFC wild-card game. "I felt really good going into the Cleveland game," said Roethlisberger, who first injured the ankle Dec. 8 against the Browns at Heinz Field. "I don't know if I caught it on the ground wrong or"

The progress Ben Roethlisberger makes on his ABCs could have a direct correlation on how far the Steelers play into January -- and beyond. The Steelers quarterback is working his way back from a high-ankle sprain, and Roethlisberger's recovery regimen is as comprehensive as his catalog of fourth-quarter comebacks. One exercise Roethlisberger regularly engages in as he tries to strengthen the ankle that was nearly snapped almost a month ago involves the alphabet. Roethlisberger said he puts a rubber band over his left foot and traces every letter of the alphabet, using his big toe as if it were a highlighter. "Throughout the alphabet," Roethlisberger said, "you hit every range of motion.""

Maurkice Pouncey will play Sunday against Cleveland, while Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu likely are to join him in the starting lineup for the regular-season finale. Pouncey (ankle) went through a full practice for a third consecutive day Friday and said he will start against the Browns. "I know for a fact that I am playing," Pouncey said. Roethlisberger worked through his third consecutive day of practice without any complications from a high ankle sprain and is expected to start Sunday. However, he wouldn't confirm his status after practice yesterday. "I don't know," Roethlisberger said. "We'll see. Go ask Mike Tomlin." Polamalu (knee) practiced yesterday for the first time this"

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced Thursday, keeping him on track to play Sunday in the regular-season finale at Cleveland. With the Steelers gearing up for the playoffs, Roethlisberger said his priority is getting as close to full strength as possible. "I'd like to get to 75 (percent)," Roethlisberger said. "I'd be really happy with that." Roethlisberger is working through the first high-ankle sprain of his career, an injury he sustained Dec. 8 when the Steelers and Browns first played this season. The rematch has significant postseason implications for the visitors."

Charlie Batch will start at quarterback for the injured Ben Roethlisberger as the Steelers try to beat the reeling St. Louis Rams and stay in the hunt for the AFC North title. Roethlisberger did not practice all week, and the Steelers listed him as questionable for today's 1 p.m. game at Heinz Field. Like Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey is nursing a high-ankle sprain, and the Pro Bowl center already has been ruled out for today. Roethlisberger played the entire game last Monday night in San Francisco, and he could dress today and serve as an emergency quarterback. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, still noticeably bothered by a high-left ankle sprain, didn't practice for the second straight day Thursday. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Roethlisberger is a game-day decision for Saturday's contest against the St. Louis Rams at Heinz Field. When asked about sitting Roethlisberger as the Rams are doing with Sam Bradford and a similar injury, Arians barked at the notion. "They're not in same boat we're in," said Arians, who said they made decision to play Roethlisberger this past Monday after seeing the quarterback move in pregame warmups. "We're still playing for a bye and a lot of things, back-to-back 12-4 season. There's no reason for that.""

In the violence-heavy, manhood-testing NFL, there is constant warfare between hearts and heads when it comes to playing hurt. Doctors and coaches usually have the final word. Otherwise, short of severed limbs, the heart prevails. "Usually," said Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who would know. Hobbling with his high-ankle sprain between stadium blackouts during Monday night's 20-3 loss to San Francisco, Roethlisberger threw three interceptions, took three sacks and produced a 52.3 quarterback rating, his lowest in 31 regular-season games dating to Nov. 15, 2009. The nasty Niners defense had much to do with that, but Roethlisberger's utter lack of mobility also contributed. Moving"

Ben Roethlisberger didn't leave Monday night's game late in the fourth quarter with the outcome decided because, well, he didn't want to. With the Steelers trailing San Francisco by three scores, Roethlisberger refused to exit the game despite being limited with a high-ankle sprain sustained Dec. 8. "When Coach tried to get me out, I said, 'No, I'm not putting you in that situation, and I'm not quitting on our guys," Roethlisberger said. "I started this thing. I'm going to finish it.""

Let's dispense with any nonsense right away: Ben Roethlisberger can play, should play and will play. He'll play Saturday against St. Louis. He'll play the following week in Cleveland. And he'll play in what now looks to be a wild-card game. He's the Steelers' most pivotal player, and, in case people aren't paying attention, his team hardly is pivoting toward dominance. These aren't the recent Colts, Saints, Packers or Steelers, for that matter, to be pondering going into sleep mode for a couple weeks, then suddenly awakening their inner giant when the alarm goes off. It's up to Roethlisberger to get these guys going and keep them going. He needs to be out there."

Ben Roethlisberger said he didn't take any painkilling injections before playing through a high-ankle sprain in a 20-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. "They would never put me out there and endanger me or anybody on this team. There was no injection there was two Tylenols and two Advil." Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn't favor his injured left ankle as much during Saturday's practice as he did earlier this week. However, he is listed as questionable for Monday night's game at San Francisco. While there's a 50 percent chance Roethlisberger will be in the lineup despite a high ankle sprain, center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle sprain) is among three players who will sit out a game in which the Steelers can clinch a playoff spot with a victory at Candlestick Park. In addition, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot) and outside linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) will sit. Sanders will miss his fourth game in six weeks, while Carter is out for the third straight week."

The most talked about ankle in Pittsburgh has been soaked in hot and cold tubs. It has been massaged, and on Thursday, it got fitted for a custom-made brace that will provide support and protection if Ben Roethlisberger is able to play in San Francisco. The one thing the Steelers quarterback hasn't done to ensure that he suits up for Monday night's key game is suspend time. And that is one thing even beyond his reach, no matter how superhuman Roethlisberger looked in returning from injury to lead the Steelers to a 14-3 win over the Browns last Thursday. High ankle sprains won`t keep quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and center Maurkice Pouncey from playing next Monday night when the Steelers visit San Francisco. Sometimes I wonder if the Big Ben-is-the-toughest-quarterback-alive storyline gets overblown. Philip Rivers played through a torn ACL in a playoff game. Tony Romo shrugged off fractured ribs and a collapsed lung to beat San Francisco this season. Most quarterbacks are tough. It's a job requirement. Then again, I'm not sure many have thrived amid the sort of year-in, year-out punishment Roethlisberger endures, largely on account of his swashbuckler style. He has now been sacked 309 times (career, not this season). Yet, he refuses to alter his approach. Isn't that part of what you love about him?"

Unorthodox handoffs and some snaps from a formation that isn't used very often. Those are adjustments Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers might make as the star quarterback plays the rest of the season with a broken right thumb. Roethlisberger threw Monday for the first time since getting hurt in a Nov. 13 game at Cincinnati. The only thing he could say definitively following practice is that the injury won't keep him from playing Sunday night in Kansas City. "It hurts first off just to grip the ball. It's something you've got to get used to," Roethlisberger said of the injury on his throwing hand. "Coach (Mike Tomlin) told me not to throw (yesterday), but I was like, 'I want some snaps, I"
