Anquan Boldin News & Rumors

Ravens wide receiver Boldin wins suit vs. former agent
"Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin has won a court settlement after his former agent failed to pay back a $170,000 loan that the player gave him to start a sports business, according to federal court papers filed in Florida. But the case was complicated after the agent, Darrell Eugene Wills, declared bankruptcy, claiming he owed creditors, including Boldin, more than $1 million. Court papers filed in federal court in Tallahassee, Fla., say that Boldin sued Wills in April last year alleging default on the loan. The player's lawyer argued that Boldin gave Wills $270,000 in March 2004 so he could start Imagine Sports International."
Boldin set to return, spark offense
"The Ravens finished the regular season by winning two games despite inconsistent gains from their passing attack. That problem could be remedied by the return of Anquan Boldin. The team's top wide receiver over the past two seasons is set to return this week from knee surgery in anticipation of the club's opening playoff contest AFC Divisional round Jan. 15, and Boldin said he has no qualms about the health of his knee. "I feel good," Boldin said in the locker room under Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati after the Ravens' 24-16 win against the Bengals Sunday evening. "I worked with the trainers, rehabbed it, pushed it, and now I feel good.""
Boldin and Yanda doubtful for Sunday
"Despite the return of wide receiver Anquan Boldin and right guard Marshal Yanda to Friday's practice, the Ravens listed both players as doubtful for Sunday's game at the Cincinnati Bengals. Boldin – who underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee last week – had been previously ruled out after sitting out Wednesday's and Thursday's sessions. But he was limited in practice, which was apparently enough for the team to upgrade his availability for the regular-season finale. Yanda had missed the previous two days of practice after suffering ribs and thigh bruises in Saturday's 20-14 win against the Cleveland Browns. Yanda has not missed a start since Nov. 22, 2009. Inside"
Evans not feeling heat to fill in for Boldin
"The disappointment felt by Ravens fans after Lee Evans failed to make a catch in the Ravens' 20-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday was palpable. But it didn't exceed the amount of disappointment the wide receiver had in himself. Even five days later, Evans was still putting the onus on himself to make plays for the offense. "I expect myself to play well," he said. "I have high expectations for myself, and I know what that looks like. So we're trying to get to that point." The expectation is that Evans would be able to fill in for the injured Anquan Boldin, the team's leading receiver who is out until at least the playoffs after undergoing surgery to repair a slightly torn"
Boldin will miss rest of regular season with knee injury
"If the Ravens are going to win the AFC North and clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs, they'll have to do it without veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Boldin, who leads the team in receiving yards and is second to running back Ray Rice in receptions, had surgery Thursday to repair a "slight" meniscus tear in his knee and he'll miss at least the final two games of the regular season. "It flapped up on him, I think it was Tuesday night after the walk-through," said Ravens coach John Harbaugh. "He's going to have to get it repaired. It's a two-week thing. It's two weeks and he'll be back for the playoffs, whatever round we happen to play in. It will be a little bit tighter if we have"
Boldin to have knee surgery, should return for playoffs
"WR Anquan Boldin (knee) will have surgery on a slightly torn meniscus, coach John Harbaugh confirmed on Thursday. Harbaugh said Boldin will be out two weeks. Boldin will be back for the playoffs."
Boldin's ferocity resurrects the Ravens' offense
"Anquan Boldin had a look on his face in the second half of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals that words could not possibly do justice. It might best be described as a mixture of desire, focus, self-confidence and rage. And if you understand and appreciate the powerful role that emotion plays in professional football, it was — no exaggeration — beautiful. Boldin caught seven passes for 145 yards in the Ravens stunning 30-27 comeback victory at M&T Bank Stadium in what was easily the best game he's played while wearing a Ravens jersey. But those numbers can't really put in proper context just how important he was in the win against Arizona, the team he spent seven seasons with"
Ex-Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin quiet on facing former team
"Anquan Boldin never wore all of his emotions on his sleeves, because they wouldn't fit. For most of his seven seasons in Arizona, Boldin was the face of the Cardinals organization, and that face was never disguised. It didn't matter if it was anger, frustration, happiness, Boldin never hid his feelings. That's what made Boldin's conference call with Arizona media Wednesday seem strange. Boldin, who was traded to the Ravens in March 2010, sounded coy when he said playing against his old team Sunday meant nothing special to him. "For me, it's just get back on the field and get a win," he said. "Around here, we're all about winning. We're trying to build something, and each week it's the same"
Boldin laughs off injury question
"Wide receiver Anquan Boldin caused a stir among the Ravens' fan base when he had ice wrapped around his knee. But Boldin, who participated in warmups but didn't play in the preseason finale, laughed loudly when asked if he had an injury."
Where do Evans and Boldin rank among receiving duos?
"With trades in consecutive offseasons, the Ravens have given Joe Flacco a formidable receiving tandem in Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans. Boldin has had five 1,000-yard seasons in his eight years in the league and Evans has averaged 15.7 yards per catch in seven seasons and hauled in 42 touchdowns in his career. The Ravens hope Evans is the key to unlocking the shackles on the Ravens' passing game in 2011. One of the NFL's fastest receivers, Evans has the vertical speed to give Boldin space underneath, something that wasn't often available late last season with Derrick Mason and T.J. Houshmanzadeh lining up opposite of Boldin. "He's the guy that pretty much takes the top off of defenses, opens"
Lee Evans and Joe Flacco find same page quickly
"Lee Evans gives the Ravens what they've been missing through the Joe Flacco years — a speed receiver who can get behind the defense and catch the ball. They call him a vertical threat. But by any other name, Evans is the missing piece to a short-sighted and heretofore imbalanced offense. In Anquan Boldin, the Ravens have one of the NFL's premier — and most powerful — intermediate receivers. In Ray Rice, they have a durable, play-making running back who can twist linebackers into soft pretzels. In Flacco, they have a fourth-year quarterback who throws the deep ball better than he sometimes throws the short ball. Now, at last, the Ravens have someone for Flacco to throw that deep ball to."
Anquan Boldin: 'I know why they brought me here'
"Anquan Boldin isn't only the Baltimore Ravens' most accomplished, trusted wide receiver. He has also become the primary mentor to one of the youngest wide receiver corps in the NFL following the departure of Derrick Mason to the New York Jets. The arrival of speedy Lee Evans doesn't change the equation for what Boldin means to the Ravens' offense. Since Mason, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Donte' Stallworth are gone, the former Pro Bowl selection remains the unquestioned top downfield option for quarterback Joe Flacco. "I know why they brought me here," said Boldin, who's playing under a four-year, $28 million contract since being acquired via a trade last year from the Arizona Cardinals. "I"
Boldin must become mentor for young receivers
"Anquan Boldin's roles this year extend beyond No. 1 wide receiver, fiery leader and part-time play caller. When Boldin broke the huddle in Ravens' training camp Thursday, the 30-year-old wide receiver lined up next to wide receiver Torrey Smith, a rookie who is finishing his first full week of NFL practices, and tight end Ed Dickson, who is 19 months removed from playing at the University of Oregon. The Ravens' era with Derrick Mason and Todd Heap ended when the franchise's all-time leading receivers were released last week. The new one with Boldin and a bunch of fledgling receivers is just beginning. Take away Boldin and the average age of the Ravens' wide receivers and tight ends is 24"
Anquan Boldin's Brother Playing In CFL
"Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin will be watching football on TV Friday night as his brother, D.J. Boldin , makes his professional football debut with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League . After a successful exhibition season, D.J., Anquan's younger brother, who spent last season on the Argo's practice squad, should get some decent playing time in the season opener against the Calgary Stampeders. A story in the Toronto Sun talked about the brother's common bond and noted the record-setting pace the elder Boldin has set in his NFL career. As a member of the Baltimore Ravens, Anquan has another chance to return to the Super Bowl, after losing to the"
NFL stars gather in Pahokee for Anquan Boldin Foundation charity events
"It didn't take long for Anquan Boldin's spirit of goodwill to spread to his fellow NFL players in town for Q-Fest, Boldin's charity weekend. New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis needed only one look at the two-year-old football stadium at Pahokee High, named 'Anquan Boldin Stadium,' to make him realize how much impact one star NFL player can have on his community. "I see Anquan Boldin Stadium, and it's like, 'Whoa.' It makes you realize how much he means to the people here," Revis said before Friday night's charity basketball game at the high school. "I got to go back to my high school and try to get my own stadium!" Friday night's game was the signature event of Boldin's seventh annual"
Boldin hopes blitzing will leave him open against Steelers
"Almost an afterthought for the previous four weeks, Anquan Boldin re-emerged as a relevant and dangerous option in the Ravens offense. The wide receiver demonstrated again why he was the team's top receiver in the regular season with his five-catch, 64-yard, one-touchdown performance in the Ravens' 30-7 pasting of the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday's AFC Wildcard playoff game. "Some games, some guys' numbers are going to get called more than others', and you want to use different players," Boldin said after the team's practice Tuesday. "Whatever it takes for us to win, as long as we keep advancing, I'm fine." In the last four games of the regular season, Boldin had caught a combined eight"
Ravens WRs forced to check egos at door
"The word hangs strange in a professional sports locker room of today. Sacrifice. Seriously? A group of the most prominent wide receivers in the NFL – Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh – have been placed together on the Baltimore Ravens and forced to give up dozens of their precious catches for the vague promise of what? Winning a Super Bowl? And they have done this without great complaint? "Well every once in awhile they have something to say," Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco says with a smile. There was, after all, the game earlier this season when Mason – the team's longtime star receiver – screamed at Flacco on the sideline, but that was quickly diffused. Yes, you can"
Ravens get offensive output from Boldin, Stallworth and Dickson
"In a game of diminishing returns, the Ravens took their offensive gains where they could find them Sunday night. Facing the Pittsburgh Steelers without fullback Le'Ron McClain ( sprained ankle), the Ravens lost tight end Todd Heap on their first offensive play to a hamstring injury. Improvising as best he could, quarterback Joe Flacco hit wide receiver Anquan Boldin for a 61-yard pass in the first quarter and Donte' Stallworth for a 67-yard completion in the second. The first big play set up a 14-yard touchdown throw to Boldin and 7-0 lead, a lead that somehow held up for a 10-6 victory at M&T Bank Stadium. Both long passes got the Ravens off their goal line and turned field position"
Ravens WR Boldin not interested in whining
"Anquan Boldin has the talent, the contract and the fearless attitude that seem inherently linked to being a No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. The part about the whining, acting like a diva, and brandishing a me-first mentality? He must've missed that section of Playing Professional Football 101. That's why the Ravens wide receiver insisted that he won't berate or cajole quarterback Joe Flacco into throwing the ball in his direction – beginning with Sunday night's showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium. "I've been on that side," said Boldin, a former quarterback who played that position through high school and until his freshman year at Florida State. "I've played"
Anquan Boldin is emerging as locker room leader
"Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin doesn't talk a lot, but he is never at a loss for words. So when the Ravens were stinking up the Georgia Dome Thursday night in Atlanta, Boldin delivered a halftime speech to his teammates. Apparently, some of them didn't get the message, because after quarterback Joe Flacco threw an interception on the Ravens first possession of the third quarter, it was on. And Boldin went off. In front of a national TV audience, Boldin ripped into his offensive teammates in a speech that would have made Gen. George S. Patton proud. The Ravens responded with three second-half touchdowns, and the new offensive leader was born. "Certain guys don't say much because they don't"
Under Armour signs Ravens' Boldin
"Baltimore sports apparel company Under Armour said this morning that it has signed Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin to an endorsement deal. The eight-year veteran is a three-time Pro Bowler and was the 2003 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. As part of the deal, Boldin will wear Under Armour cleats and apparel and make appearances at stores and in television and print advertising spots."
Boldin productive as primary target
"When he finally retreated to his locker at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday after running roughshod over the Cleveland Browns, Anquan Boldin's 6-year-old son, A.J., was draped tightly around his neck. It was the only time all day anyone even remotely covered the Ravens' playmaking receiver. Boldin left cornerback Eric Wright -- and the rest of the Cleveland secondary -- in his wake en route to a 24-17 win that restored order to the Ravens' universe and respect to their pass offense. In a game of pitch and catch with Joe Flacco, Boldin pulled down eight passes worth 142 yards and three touchdowns. Along the way, he snagged the 600th catch of his eight-year career, an 8-yard touchdown in the first"
Catching is his game
"While the Baltimore Ravens try to get their passing game untracked, there is one thing they can probably count on when they host the Browns today at M"
Boldin likely to be risk-taker
"Anquan Boldin's toughness has been defined by one hit in September 2008 — a violent helmet-to-helmet shot while trying to make a touchdown catch over the middle that knocked him out and shattered his face. Multiple facial fractures had to be repaired by 40 titanium screws and seven plates. The wide receiver's displaced jaw had to be wired to realign his bite. Then, as if he were coming back from a broken finger instead of a broken face, Boldin returned to the field after two missed games to make nine catches. "To me, that wasn't the most devastating thing I had to go through," said Boldin, the Ravens' biggest acquisition of the year, who opens training camp with the team this week. "For"
Boldin among Ravens' no-shows at voluntary passing camp
"Anquan Boldin, the Ravens' new wide receiver, was among a handful of no-shows at voluntary passing camp Tuesday. Others who skipped the workout were: linebackers Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs; defensive ends Cory Redding and Trevor Pryce; and running back Willis McGahee."
Anquan Boldin could have had Brandon Marshall's role, but both are content
"While new Dolphin Brandon Marshall was meeting the press Thursday afternoon in Plantation, another Pro Bowl wide receiver who long imagined himself onto the same South Florida stage was up at PGA National, puttering around in a golf cart, hammering away on a new dream. You remember Anquan Boldin, right? This weekend, the sixth Q-Festival Weekend, brings fresh evidence that he remembers you, too. The former Pahokee High School and Florida State standout is back home to raise money for underprivileged youth in Palm Beach County, and in Arizona, where Boldin spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career, and soon enough, in Baltimore, too, where a trade sent 'Quan last month to begin again"
Anquan Boldin will host Q-Festival next week in Palm Beach Gardens and Pahokee
"Anquan Boldin, the Pahokee native and NFL All-Pro receiver, will hold his sixth annual Q-Festival Weekend beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday. The charity event includes: The Q81 Charity Golf Classic to be held on the Champions Course at PGA National Resort"
Boldin looking forward to playing Steelers
"Even before he has put on a Ravens uniform, wide receiver Anquan Boldin already shares the same feelings as his new teammates and fans -- a dislike for the Pittsburgh Steelers. "I'm seeking a little revenge on Pittsburgh", Boldin said. "They beat us in the Super Bowl, so I'm looking forward to that matchup.""
Boldin has 'mixed emotions' about leaving Arizona Cardinals
"Anquan Boldin once pleaded to leave the Cardinals organization, all but scratching marks on the walls of the team's practice facility to count the days spent in purgatory. On Saturday, however, a day after he was traded to the Ravens, Boldin said he had "mixed emotions" about leaving the team and the area after seven years. "I built a lot of relationships here," said Boldin, the Cardinals' all-time leading receiver. "Professionally, it's the only place I know. It's going to be tough to say goodbye but I'm also looking forward to the future, definitely excited about playing for the Ravens. I feel like I add a piece to their offense." Oddly enough, Boldin spent part of Saturday at the"
Boldin signing sends message to Mason
"With the trade and signing of Arizona Pro Bowl receiver Anquan Boldin, the Ravens are leaking word around the league that veteran receiver Derrick Mason is no longer a priority. The Ravens still might sign Mason, but they are in no hurry. In fact, he fits general manager Ozzie Newsome's favorite saying: "Right player, right price." The Ravens might not try to sign him until after the draft. The Ravens might be leaking word out because they are simply tired of Mason saying he might retire, and then he might not. Or that he might want to play for another team or would prefer to stay with the Ravens, but wants a two-year contract."
Cardinals export Anquan Boldin to Ravens for draft picks
"WR Anquan Boldin is now a bird of a different feather. The Cardinals traded Boldin, a Pro Bowler who's been unhappy with his contract for nearly two years, and a fifth-round draft pick to the Baltimore Ravens for third- and fourth-round selections in the 2010 draft. "I'm definitely excited," Boldin said in a statement. "For me, I've been hoping for this for a year since I first heard that the Ravens might be interested in me. I even talked with Ray (Lewis) about it a year ago. "I really look at this as a great opportunity for me. They love football in Baltimore. I know that from when the Cardinals played there a few years ago. That place was loud, very impressive by the fans. The Ravens"
Ravens trade for wide receiver Boldin
"The Ravens made their boldest move in this year's wide receiver revitalization project by trading for Anquan Boldin, their newly appointed No. 1 target. Capturing one of the biggest headlines on the first day of free agency, the Ravens acquired the three-time Pro Bowl player and a fifth-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for their third- and fourth-round picks in next month's draft. Only minutes after completing the trade, the Ravens reiterated their high expectations for Boldin by giving him a four-year, $28 million contract, which includes $10 million guaranteed. The hope is that Boldin becomes a pivotal factor in the development of quarterback Joe Flacco and boosts the"
Arizona Cardinals trade Anquan Boldin to Baltimore Ravens
"The Cardinals traded receiver Anquan Boldin to the Ravens on Friday, ending a seven-year relationship defined by astounding achievement and tinged with vitriol. The Cardinals sent Boldin and a fifth-round pick in this year's draft to Baltimore in exchange for the Ravens' third- and fourth-round selections. Before the deal was consummated, Boldin had reached agreement with the Ravens on a three-year contract extension worth $25 million in new money. "On a lot of levels, it's tough to know that Anquan is not going to be out there any more," coach Ken Whisenhunt said, "but I also think it was time. This was in the best interest of Anquan and it was in the best interest of us." After meeting"
Cardinals trade Boldin to Ravens
"The Baltimore Ravens couldn't pass up the opportunity to add a talented pass catcher to their roster: three-time Pro Bowl standout Anquan Boldin. Baltimore obtained Boldin from the Arizona Cardinals on Friday for a third- and fourth-round pick in the 2010 draft. Baltimore also got a fifth-round pick from Arizona. The 29-year-old Boldin has amassed at least 1,000 yards receiving in five of his seven seasons, including 1,024 yards on 84 catches last season. Boldin received a new four-year, $28 million deal with Baltimore in which $10 million is guaranteed. He was to set to earn $3 million next season, the last of the four-year, $22.5 million deal he signed with Arizona after the 2005 season."
WR gives Baltimore a playmaker on the outside
"The Ravens made a big play today, as reported by our own Aaron Wilson, when they acquired WR Anquan Boldin by giving up a third and fourth round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. But, just how big of a move was it for Baltimore? The Ravens are built up front with a young offensive line and the downhill running style of Ray Rice. That is where they make their money, but with Boldin now in the mix, Baltimore has the type of receiver who can win across the middle of the field, and more importantly, is a game plan nightmare for opposing defenses because of what he can do in the open field after the catch."
Ravens trade for wide receiver Boldin
"The Ravens made a bold move to improve their passing game, trading for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin. It is believed the Ravens sent third- and fourth-round picks to the Cardinals in exchange for Boldin and a fifth-round pick. According to ESPN, Boldin has agreed to a new four-year, $28 million contract. It is believed the Ravens beat out the Kansas City Chiefs for the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. "The Ravens just got better," coach John Harbaugh said. "Anquan is a significant addition for us. He fits the personality of our team with the hard-nosed, physical way he plays. We love the way he competes. Our fans will enjoy watching him compete and his teammates will be"
Cards say Boldin could be traded
"The Arizona Cardinals aren't ruling out trading wide receiver Anquan Boldin this offseason. "Our approach with Anquan is really the same as what it was last year: We're going to consider all our options," General Manager Rod Graves said here Saturday "... We'll go through what the options are throughout the offseason, and make the decision that's best for our team." Boldin has clashed with team officials in the past over his contract and the Cardinals previously have indicated a willingness to listen to trade offers for him, without completing a deal. "We're going to look at all the options regarding Anquan and regarding all our players," Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Saturday."
Cardinals weighing their options with WR Anquan Boldin
"All indications point to a shallow free-agent market if the NFL, as expected, goes to an uncapped season in 2010. That means trades could be in vogue for teams in need, and players like Arizona WR Anquan Boldin could be on the move. Cardinals GM Rod Graves tells the team's website that he will "settle on whatever is best for the team" in regards to Boldin, a perennial Pro Bowler who has one season left on a contract he's been unhappy with since the team broke the bank for fellow WR Larry Fitzgerald two years ago. Given the presence of Steve Breaston and the strong showing of sophomore Early Doucet and his Boldin-like play in the postseason, Boldin himself could be an attractive bargaining"
Anquan Boldin will not request trade
"I promised you I'd try to catch up with Arizona Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin after this playoff game between the Saints and Cardinals. I keep my promises. And the news for Dolphins fans hoping to see Boldin in a Dolphins uniform next season is not great. Boldin, you see, told me as he walked out of the Arizona locker room that he will not request a trade this offseason. "No," Boldin told me following Arizona's 45-14 loss to New Orleans said. "I'm going to let it play out." Boldin is under contract to Arizona for the 2010 season at a scheduled pay of $3 million. It is the final year of his deal. And considering he's a 1,000-yard caliber receiver, he believes he has been underpaid for"
Boldin officially listed as questionable
"The Arizona Cardinals were not scheduled to practice Friday as they travel to New Orleans, but the team was required to submit the official status of their players. So, officially, four Cardinals were listed as questionable for Saturday's divisional playoff game against the Saints: WR Anquan Boldin (ankle), DE Calais Campbell (thumb), LB Will Davis (knee) and LB Gerald Hayes (ankle). Bolding and Hayes were the only two Cardinals who did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday."
Source: Boldin not expected to play
"The Arizona Cardinals are not expecting wide receiver Anquan Boldin to play in Saturday's NFC divisional playoff game against New Orleans. The Cardinals, however, has not fully abandoned hopes that Boldin will be available to play, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Thursday. The feeling is that, if the Cardinals can beat the Saints in New Orleans, Boldin would be ready to play the NFC Championship Game. Boldin has been nursing knee and ankle injuries, but his knee is more of an issue than the ankle, and it's the main reason he missed last Sunday's victory against the Packers and the main reason he is likely to sit out Saturday against the Saints."
Cardinals' Anquan Boldin doesn't practice, status still iffy
"Anquan Boldin didn't participate in practice Thursday, and his status for Saturday's NFC divisional playoff game at New Orleans is uncertain. "Everything is the same, nothing has really changed," said Boldin, who hasn't practiced in two weeks since suffering left ankle and knee injuries in the regular-season finale against Green Bay. "It's better than it was a couple days ago, though, so I'm optimistic." Boldin is continuing to get treatment in hopes of playing against the Saints, but he is likely to be a game-time decision, head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. But can a player who hasn't practiced in two weeks be an active part of the offensive packages the Cardinals plan to roll out at the"
Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin eyes return
"The Cardinals were still stiff and sore at practice Tuesday, two days after their overtime victory over the Packers. Coach Ken Whisenhunt was happy with the mental attitude of his team, however, and has planned to back off the practice regimen this week because of the Saturday game in New Orleans. Tuesday is usually the players' day off, but that changed because of the shorter workweek. The Cardinals didn't wear pads on Tuesday but went through a two-hour workout. Receiver Anquan Boldin said his sprained ankle and knee have improved and that he's hopeful of practicing this week. Starting inside linebacker Gerald Hayes wore a boot on his right foot because of a sprained ankle. Teams don't"
Life without Anquan Boldin might not be all that bad for Cardinals
"For the second year in a row, we have seen what life might be like for the Cardinals without Anquan Boldin. And it doesn't look all that bad. Boldin was in street clothes Sunday, sidelined by a sprained knee and ankle, yet the Cardinals offense still put 45 points on the board. And as an unexpected bonus, the Big Red defense made a play, too - and scored the game-winning touchdown as the Cardinals began defense of their NFC championship with a crazy 51-45 overtime victory over the Green Bay Packers at University of Phoenix Stadium. Offensively, the game was reminiscent of last year's divisional round victory, when the Cardinals went to Carolina without Boldin and smoked the Panthers to"
Receivers fill in for Boldin
"Anquan Boldin didn't play on Sunday because of his ankle and knee injuries, but it was hard to notice. Reserve wide receivers Early Doucet and Steve Breaston made the most of their increased opportunity, combining for three touchdown catches as Arizona's high-powered offense hit on all cylinders. Doucet had only one touchdown reception all season, but corralled two balls for scores by the second quarter. He finished with six catches for 77 yards. Breaston led the team with seven receptions for 125 yards, and his 17-yard touchdown catch with 4:55 remaining gave the Cardinals a 45-38 lead. He also had an end-around rushing attempt that went for 28 yards."
Cardinals' Anquan Boldin a game-time decision vs. Packers
"Cue the suspense. Or better yet, make that 'Q' the suspense. Receiver Anquan Boldin spent part of Saturday testing his injured left ankle and knee to see if countless hours of rehab and treatment had been effective enough to allow him to play in Sunday's NFC playoff game against the Packers. Unless he told coach Ken Whisenhunt after team meetings Saturday night that he couldn't go, Boldin likely will take the field for pregame workouts, and then it will be a game-time decision. "Hopefully he can go, but if not, we've got to have other guys step up," Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner said. "Maybe it's one guy, maybe it's two guys, maybe it's three guys. But we have to have that group bring"
Boldin's time with Cardinals could be near end
"Not long ago, it was receiver Anquan Boldin's locker that reporters surrounded to ask their State of the Cardinals questions. It was his picture that team management pointed to and told scouts, "We need more players like this." It was his contract extension that once was hailed as a new era for a franchise that once almost held the doors open as star players departed. Four years ago, after Boldin signed an extension, a time such as this seemed impossible. But as the Cardinals enter the playoffs Sunday, each game could be Boldin's last with the team. The 2010 season is the final year of his contract. After three years of seeking an extension, it's more likely that Boldin will be traded"
Haggans cherishes his opportunity; Boldin game time decision vs Packers
"A year ago, Cardinals outside linebacker Clark Haggans felt trapped. The LisFranc sprain in his left foot might as well have been an anchor, dragging him to the injured reserve list and out of the lineup for the playoffs. This season, Haggans has been a regular starter at left outside linebacker and has been among the team's more consistent defenders. "This is a blessing," Haggans said. "The injury I had last year, they were saying how my career could possibly be over. It crosses my mind how valuable football is to a player, how much you love the game and how you sometimes take it for granted." Haggans, in his 10th season, has been to the playoffs before and won a Super Bowl ring as a"
Anquan Boldin has a high left ankle sprain and sprained left medial collateral ligament
"The Cardinals tried to play it safe last week against the Packers and give as many starters as much rest as they could. At least that was the plan. Ironically, they have more significant players nursing injuries than at any other time this season. Here's an update: Receiver Anquan Boldin -- He told me he has a high left ankle sprain and a sprained left medial collateral ligament. He worked with a trainer during practice but it's questionable if he'll play Sunday against the Packers. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie -- He did some work on the side, too, but said his sore left knee is no better than it was Monday. Rodgers-Cromartie can run but backpedaling and moving laterally are"
