Andre Iguodala News & Rumors
Iguodala eager to represent Sixers at All-Star Game
February 11
CSN Philly
"
The time was finally right for Andre Iguodala, who in his eighth NBA season will be making his first All-Star Game appearance. "This league is full of guys who can be an All-Star, full of guys who can be superstars, but for whatever reason the timing may not work out," Iguodala said Friday before the Sixers fell, 78-77, in the final seconds to the Clippers. "I'm just happy that it happened. I look forward to it. Like I texted coach last night after he congratulated me – we've got eight games, and I just want to get some wins going into the break to enjoy it."

Sixers' Iguodala named to first All-Star Game

CSN Philly
"
It took eight years, but Andre Iguodala is finally an All-Star. Iguodala was named as a reserve on Thursday night to the Eastern Conference team of 12 that will face the Western Conference on Feb. 26. The reserves were voted on by the coaches in their respective conferences. "I could not be more proud of Andre Iguodala for being recognized as an All-Star," Sixers head coach Doug Collins said in a statement. "Andre has meant so much to the success of our team this season and he is one of the most talented, unselfish players I have ever had the opportunity to coach – the entire 76ers organization, our coaching staff, his teammates and I are thrilled he will be representing us in this year's

Iguodala an All-Star reserve
February 10

"
Andre Iguodala said he planned to be at a Bible study at Sixers teammate Jrue Holiday's house when the NBA announced that he had made the Eastern Conference All-Star team as a reserve. He wasn't going to watch the results on TV, and he wasn't going to sit around wondering if he was going to get in. "I've got a lot of stuff to do, errands to run," Iguodala said after practice, hours before the announcement was made. "So I'm going to be running around. I've got to pack for the (Sixers' upcoming road trip). I'm going to be busy."

Iguodala's triple-double leads Sixers past hapless Pistons
January 29
Courier-Post
"
Doug Collins left it up to Andre Iguodala. He needed one rebound for the triple-double in the fourth quarter of a game the 76ers were leading by 27 points. So the Sixers' coach turned to Iguodala on the bench and asked him, " 'Would you like to get it?' " And he said, 'Great.' " Iguodala got that last rebound within 13 seconds of entering the game, with 7:35 to go. He got a standing ovation from a fan base that wanted him traded at the end of last season. And he also got the admiration of his teammates and coach after the Sixers polished off the Detroit Pistons 95-74 on Saturday. It wasn't a bad way for Iguodala to cap off his 28th birthday. Iguodala finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds

Iguodala excited to vie for Olympic team spot
January 18
CSN Philly
"
Andre Iguodala is a well-rounded basketball player that receives a relatively small amount of attention in the Philadelphia area compared to the recognition he receives from the national basketball community. A jovial Doug Collins had some insight as to why that is the case after a rare Tuesday practice. "I always say, who knows your warts more then your wife?" Collins said laughing. "All these other people talk about what a great guy you are and she says, 'Why don't you come live with him?' It is usually the people you are closest to who have seen more of you who are the ones who pick at you a little more."
"
Iguodala finalist for Olympic team
January 17
Courier-Post
"
Andre Iguodala was chosen as one of 20 finalists for the USA Basketball Men's National Team for the Olympics this summer. The team consists of eight players from the 2008 Olympic team that won the gold medal, and 10 from the 2010 World Championship team that also won the gold medal. Iguodala was a starter on that 2010 team, which is partly why Sixers coach Doug Collins said he has a "great chance" to make the final roster of 12, which will be announced in June.

Iguodala's slump hasn't bothered his defense
January 8
CSN Philly
"
A quick glance at the stat sheet from Wednesday night's victory over New Orleans and Friday's win over Detroit makes it look as if Andre Iguodala is in a bit of a slump. With just 11 points on 3 for 13 shooting, including four points on four shots on Friday night, even Iguodala will admit his offensive game is a bit off. But to hear coach Doug Collins explain it, the Sixers would not have won the past two games without Iguodala. Though Iguodala has not buried the shots he's been able to get, he has done more than his share of heavy lifting on defense. In back-to-back games, Iguodala held down Hornets' top-scorer Eric Gordon and the Pistons' Tayshaun Prince just when the Sixers needed it

The official announcement is not expected for another few weeks, but the Sixers' Andre Iguodala says he will be one of the 18 finalists for the U.S. Olympic team headed to London for the 2012 games. The final roster will have 12 players and six alternates and must be finalized with the U.S. Olympic Committee by mid June. Iguodala said he was contacted by USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo this week about being one of the 18 players in consideration for the Olympic team.

Andre Igoudala scored 15 points to lead six players in double figures and added six assists and the 76ers routed the Phoenix Suns 103-83 on Wednesday night. Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young also scored 15 each for the Sixers, who used a 19-0 run at the beginning of the third quarter to extend a 14-point halftime lead to 67-34 with 6:44 remaining. Ronnie Price, signed as a free agent on Dec. 13, matched a career high with 16 points, and Grant Hill and Hakim Warrick added 14 each for the Suns, who are off to a 0-2 start for the first time since 1996-97. Philadelphia needed less than 90 seconds of the third quarter to stretch a 48-34 lead at halftime to 11 at 55-34 on Spencer Hawes' steal and

Iguodala, Turner expect better mesh this year
December 22
CSN Philly
"
They weren't exactly oil and water, but rare was the time when Sixers head coach Doug Collins would put veteran Andre Iguodala and rookie Evan Turner on the floor at the same time. Through some type of unconsciousness, the vet and the rookie did not mesh well on the court and seemed to have a big brother-little brother relationship off it. No, the relationship was not adversarial, and to Turner's and Iguodala's credit, the players worked through things, culminating with a dinner together during last April's playoffs. On Tuesday night, the pair spent nearly an entire quarter together on the floor during the exhibition finale against Washington. "Evan has played great and it was great to see

Andre Iguodala missed 15 games last season due to injury. That was after missing only six games the previous six seasons combined. The injuries started early with his first absence coming the seventh game of the year. The 14 points he averaged were his fewest in the last five years, however, his 6.3 assists per game were a career best. "I think if you were to ask Dre he would tell you he had a subpar year last year," Doug Collins said. "The injuries really did not allow him to play to his full potential. As a guy who went through injuries, it takes a mental toll on you. When you are trying to get healthy it mentally takes a toll on you."

Report: Iguodala on Magic's list of targets
December 9
CSN Philly
"
Andre Iguodala has heard his name mentioned in trade rumors season after season since being drafted by the Sixers in 2004. Still, none of them ever involved a superhero. According to HoopsWorld, Iguodala is on a short list of players that could help Orlando retain the services of Superman Dwight Howard once his contract expires at the end of this season. Others on the list of players that Orlando would like are Atlanta's Josh Smith and Golden State's Monta Ellis.

Andre Iguodala pessimistic about NBA lockout

Andre Iguodala likes to speak his mind. Sometimes that gets him into hot water because his words aren't always what people want to hear. So Monday morning, when on the 13th fairway at Trump National Golf Club, Philadelphia, the seven-year NBA veteran said "You know there's not going to be a season" one wanted to respond "Say it's not so." Instead, there was a thought that Iguodala is just speaking the truth. "I didn't think it would be this bad," Iguodala said, playing in an outing for Stars Within Reach, a foundation that encourages and helps children pursue their dreams. "I thought with the season we had and the TV ratings that we had and this being one of the largest grossing revenue

Iguodala says he wants to stay with 76ers

Andre Iguodala insists his statement was "kind of taken out of context." Despite declining to tell the media he wanted to remain a 76er on April 28, the day after the Miami Heat eliminated the Sixers from the playoffs, and then skipping an exit interview with team officials, Iguodala now says he doesn't want to be traded. "I definitely enjoy being here," Iguodala told csnphilly.com during a basketball camp in Philadelphia on Saturday. "Whatever happens is going to happen. That's why I made the statement when the season was over that 'I'm just happy to be playing in the NBA.' "That's my childhood dream. It was kind of taken out of context. Who wouldn't want to live that dream? So why worry

Iguodala reaches new level of contentment in Philly

Andre Iguodala looked happy, relaxed and content, and yes, he was in Philadelphia. It seems like it would be hard for him to be happy in Philly. He said the contrary. "I definitely enjoy being here," Iguodala said at a local basketball camp on Saturday. "Evan [Turner] and I were speaking late last night. We had a really good conversation about how we can really play well together, how we can make each other better so we are looking forward to next year. We even talked about what we were going to do after practice next year. So I am definitely looking forward to improving myself and playing ball." After Game 5 of the series against the Heat, Iguodala responded to the question: "Do you

As Saturday morning approached the noon hour with the temperature pushing 90 degrees, Cherashore Park at 10th and Olney Streets in Philadelphia was packed with young kids running basketball drills under the direction of three NBA players: Mustafa Shakur, Hakeem Warrick and the Sixers' Andre Iguodala. Shakur, who grew up in Philadelphia and attended Friends Central, as did Warrick, hosted the inaugural event, dubbed Part of the Solution Community Day. Iguodala was on hand to support Shakur, who he considers to be his best friend from college, despite being Arizona teammates for just one season. Iguodala addressed the campers and shared his journey to NBA stardom. He began by telling the

Sixers still need to make a deal for big scorer
June 26
Wilmington News Journal
"
The 76ers didn't make a big splash at the NBA draft on Thursday. They still have Andre Iguodala. And coach Doug Collins was saying that the Sixers might have the perimeter scorers they need in 21-year-old Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner, who is entering his second season. Somewhere, you can hear a collective groan from the fan base that desperately wants a 20-point per game scorer like Golden State's Monta Ellis. Such a scorer, Sixers president Rod Thorn has said without mentioning names, could help take the Sixers from a .500 team to a 50-win team that makes it deep into the playoffs. "That's the next step," Thorn said. "That really separates the really good teams from the teams that are

Collins says 76ers aren't shopping Iguodala

By next Thursday, 76ers coach Doug Collins will have criss-crossed the country, meeting with every player on the team in advance of the potential NBA lockout that could begin as soon as July 1. Collins' last day of meetings will be in Los Angeles with Andre Iguodala. One of the subjects he plans to talk about is the trade rumors that have popped up over the last several weeks involving the Sixers' swingman. He plans to tell Iguodala that the Sixers aren't shopping him. "We want him back," Collins said. "He got nicked up last year. He was hurt. We think Dre is one of the reasons why we were a really good defensive team. I want to sit down with him. I want to talk to him. I want to see what

Evidently 76ers coach Doug Collins didn't get the memo. A few days ago, president Rod Thorn confirmed all the rumors and speculation by saying that the team was indeed talking to other teams about Andre Iguodala. He got nicked up last year and was hurt and we think Dre is one of the reasons we are a good defensive team. ... Nobody is out there shopping Dre."

Draft comes and goes with Iguodala still a Sixer
June 24
CSN Philly
"
Andre Iguodala was the talk of the town all day leading up to the NBA draft. Would he be dealt to the Lakers? Or maybe go to Minnesota? At day's end, however, No. 9 is still with the franchise that drafted him in the spring of 2004. A draft day trade seemed unlikely. But an Iguodala trade remains a possibility given that Golden State selected Klay Thompson -- a shooting guard who averaged 22 points for Washington State last season -- with the No. 11 pick Thursday night. That means the Warriors now have prominent perimeter players in Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis and Thompson. It would appear someone there has to be on the move. Maybe the Ellis-for-Iguodala trade talk gets revisited, despite

Iguodala to the Clippers has validity
June 23
CBSSports.com
"
Executives disagree on how much trade activity will surround the NBA draft Thursday night, ranging in their opinions from virtually no veterans traded to a frenzy. One scenario that rival execs believe still has validity is Andre Iguodala to the Clippers. The Sixers already have turned down the Clippers' offer of Chris Kaman and Ryan Gomes for Iguodala and Marreese Speights, and a person with knowledge of Philadelphia's stragegy said the Sixers are "not taking Kaman." It's not clear how willing the Clippers would be to give up a young asset for Iguodala. The better way to put it is, how much of an asset would it take to entice the Sixers to take Kaman, who only has one year and $12.2

76ers, Lakers talk Iguodala deal; Wolves in play for Philly swingman
June 23
SI.com
"
The 76ers are continuing to explore trade options for Andre Iguodala, and league sources said that a deal with the Lakers involving Lamar Odom has been discussed recently. While it's unclear whether the deal has real potential or is still alive, it's yet another sign that the Sixers are determined to land an impact player while improving their salary-cap situation in any trade for their second-leading scorer and top defender. Iguodala is owed a combined $44 million for the next three seasons (including $13.5 million next season), while Odom is set to make $8.9 million next season in the final guaranteed year of his contract.

After a short break, the Andre Iguodala rumor mill began churning again Wednesday, a day before the NBA draft. According to SI.com, The Los Angeles Lakers have discussed sending Sixth Man of the Year (not to mention reality TV star) Lamar Odom to the Sixers for Iguodala. Odom averaged 14.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and three assists per game last season for the Lakers, who were swept by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the playoffs. The Lakers would have to include another player – the report suggests Ron Artest – for salary cap reasons. The report also says the Minnesota Timberwolves may be offering the second overall pick in this year's draft for Iguodala. A rival general manager

Thorn: Teams asking about more than Iguodala
June 22
PhillyBurbs.com

Andre Iguodala's name came up quite a few times Tuesday. The media asked team president Rod Thorn five questions about Iguodala, the versatile Sixers swingman, during a 15-minute chat after a pre-draft workout. Iguodala has been rumored to be headed to the Clippers (for center Chris Kaman) and Warriors (for shooting guard Monta Ellis), among other places. But Thorn declined to say that Iguodala was the main topic of conversation during Thorn's numerous trade discussions over the past three weeks, some of which he characterized as "meaningful." "I would not say that," said Thorn, who claimed no trade is imminent. "Obviously, with all the speculation, there have been some conversations that

Thorn talks ownership, draft and Iguodala

These are busy days for Sixers team president Rod Thorn. The NBA draft is two days away. The organization is slated to pick 16th in a draft that Thorn called "pretty wide open" after the first four picks. The team's current owner, Comcast-Spectacor, is in discussions with prospective new owners, led by New York native Josh Harris, who is estimated to be worth $1.5 billion. The NBA's collective bargaining agreement will expire on June 30, and to date the owners and players' association remain worlds apart. And Andre Iguodala is rumored daily to be leaving the City of Brotherly Love. All that and still Thorn is calm and forthcoming and prepared for the road that lies ahead. The possibility

Jordan Hamilton appears headed to Philly with the 16th pick, and sources said Monday the Timberwolves have offered point guard Jonny Flynn in a package deal for swingman Andre Iguodala. Why the Iguodala-for-Ellis deal has to happen
June 14
Bleacher Report
"
Something has to give. Despite his exceptional defense, freakish athleticism and jaw-dropping play-making ability, the writing on the wall is simply too large to ignore at this point. His seven years of service should be greatly appreciated by 76ers fans, but the fact remains that Andre Iguodala can not—and should not—be a member of the Philadelphia 76ers next season. He clearly doesn't want to be in Philadelphia any longer. Iguodala's quasi-excused absence from his postseason exit interview spoke volumes, even more so than his non-committal answers during his season-ending session with the media. The last time the 76ers had a player who made no secret of his disdain for the organization

Right deal for Iguodala crucial for Sixers' future
June 12
Courier-Post
"
It would be easy to say that if the Sixers have new owners, they'll change things around, spend lavishly on free agents and do everything they can to bring the team back to the NBA's elite. But really, the NBA climate only allows owners to maintain the status quo. So if the group, led by billionaire Joshua Harris, were to take control of the team from Comcast-Spectacor in the coming weeks, nothing much would change at all. That's the way things are in the NBA. Since 2000, there have been only five champions -- the Lakers (five), Spurs (three) and the Pistons, Heat and Celtics. That followed a decade in which the Bulls won six titles in the 1990s and the Rockets won two. Parity doesn't

June 9
CSN Philly

After rumors surfaced on Tuesday of a possible trade that would send Andre Iguodala to the Golden State Warriors for shooting guard Monta Ellis, yet another trade rumor surfaced Wednesday. ESPN.com is reporting that the Sixers discussed a potential trade for Los Angeles Clipper for Chris Kaman in exchange for Iguodala. Kaman was an All-Star in 2010. The 6-foot-11 Center has averaged 12 points and eight rebounds for his career. The Sixers aren't hiding the fact they are on the market for a big man. The team could end up drafting a big in the upcoming draft. However, with DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin in the fold, the Clippers have an excess of quality post players to use in any potential

Reports link Iguodala to Warriors
June 8
Courier-Post
"
The Sixers' search for a scorer could be ending soon, according to reports that say Andre Iguodala could be traded to Golden State for Monta Ellis in the coming weeks. If such a deal were to materialize, it could be straight-up because Ellis' salary of $11 million for next season is within 25 percent of Iguodala's $13.3 million. Sixers President Rod Thorn refused to comment Tuesday, saying only: "We talk to teams every day about different things." But a deal for Ellis could be a good match for both teams. That's because Golden State could be interested in a taller perimeter player who is focused on defense to pair with point guard Stephen Curry. Iguodala, at 6-feet-7, would fit that bill.

Sources: Warriors, Sixers talking trade
June 7
ESPN.com
"
The Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers have discussed a trade that would send the Warriors' leading scorer, Monta Ellis, to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala, according to league sources, including one with direct knowledge of Golden State's thinking. One source stressed that completion of the deal is not imminent but that it has merits for both sides. The Warriors would beef up their perimeter size and defense with Iguodala, who is 6'6" and 207 pounds and can play shooting guard or small forward. Iguodala would be paired with the 6'3", 185-pound Stephen Curry at point guard and 6'9" small forward Dorell Wright.

Iguodala named to All-Defense second team

Sixers forward Andre Iguodala was named to the NBA All-Defensive second team. Iguodala received a total of 15 points, with five votes for the first team (two points each) and five votes for the second team in balloting by the league's head coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players. Iguodala becomes the first Sixers player to earn a spot on an All-Defensive Team since Eric Snow was named to the second team in 2002-03. Guard Jrue Holiday received one vote. With Iguodala in the lineup, the Sixers were 36-31 and allowed 96.9 points on 44.9 percent shooting from the floor, compared with a 5-10 mark in games he missed, in which the opposition averaged 100.1 points on 46.4

Are Iguodala's 76ers days ending?

Ideally, Andre Iguodala should be the kind of player that the region should embrace. He plays hard, he plays hurt, and he never makes excuses. Yet Iguodala is quickly falling into the same category as Scott Rolen, who played for the Phillies from 1997-2002, before essentially getting booed out of town. Coming into this season, Iguodala had missed just six games in his first six seasons. This season, he played through a wrist injury and Achilles injury in the first half of the season. He missed 12 games with those injuries when he could have easily missed many more. Then through the final two months of the season, Iguodala played through right knee tendinitis similar to the injury the

Almost 70 percent of respondents to a recent Philly.com poll want Andre Iguodala gone. I'm surprised that number isn't higher. I wonder whether Ed Stefanski hunched over his computer and kept voting for the "stay" option to even things out. The Sixers general manager might be Iguodala's biggest advocate. Not long ago, he talked about Iguodala and how he is perceived, and Stefanski did his best to defend his star (?) player. "His personality - he's not outgoing. He's not high-fiving. He's not reacting to the crowd," Stefanski said. "Andre's personality probably doesn't help. . . . Andre is more respected outside of Philadelphia by the executives in the NBA." He's probably right about

You don't need a microscope to read between the lines of Andre Iguodala's postseason quotes. If you want to be somewhere, or do something, you rarely bury the admission beneath layers of verbiage. There's an extra pair of tickets to the Phillies game at work: First come, first served. We'll take them. Do you kids want to go to Disney World? Yes! An answer to a straightforward question is simple, but Iguodala's answer to the question, "Do you want to play for the 76ers next year?" was anything but. Here was his first attempt: "I expect to be back in the NBA," Iguodala said after the team's season-ending loss to the Miami Heat in the NBA playoffs. "It's always been a dream of mine to play

Nobody is kidding themselves that a 41-41 record and a first-round loss to the Miami Heat in the playoffs are where the Sixers organization wants to stay. People will come and people will go, and what Philly.com asked Sixers fans on Wednesday is who deserves another shot in South Philadelphia and who should be skipping out of town. Eddie Jordan must read Philly.com. Who else might vote to not bring Doug Collins back as 76ers coach? In this town, only Navy SEALs are more popular than Collins right now. Even Cliff Lee's wife has dropped below him in the current rankings. Yet as of late Wednesday afternoon, 28 respondents/knuckle heads/joke-sters to a "Sixers: Stay or go?" poll thought Collins should go. (This isn't an anti-Philly fans rant; 1,486 people voted him back. Iranian dictators generally have to work for 98 percent support.) Of the Sixers top seven players, a majority of respondents wanted only Andre Iguodala gone. Makes sense to me. Let's get rid of the team's top perimeter defender, the guy who often handled

When asked (again) yesterday whether he saw himself coming back to the 76ers next season, forward Andre Iguodala responded by saying: "I don't control that, so that's not a concern of mine. I just know I'm always going to be prepared. My No. 1 goal is to want to compete for a championship." That neutral answer, given during the Sixers' final media session of the season, followed similar ones he gave the night before in Miami, when Iguodala said he expected to be back in the NBA next year, not specifying that it would be with the Sixers. Yesterday, without comment, he made perhaps his biggest statement about his future in Philadelphia when he did not show up for his exit meeting with coach

Though he still has 3 years left on his contract, the popular question is if Andre Iguodala expects to be in a Sixers uniform next season. Asked about that after the game, he said: "I expect to be back in the NBA. It's always been a dream of mine to play ball. This has been a great ride so far, not just with the Sixers, but playing basketball in general. So I'm really looking forward to getting some rest this summer, letting my body recuperate and get back to 100 percent." Iguodala battled a myriad of injuries this season, coping with a sprained wrist, a sore Achilles' and tendinitis in his right knee. Throughout the playoffs, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and his players lauded the young talent of the 76ers and rightly so. But on a night when the Sixers' season ended, it was the old faction of the starting five that led another effort that fell just short. The Heat eliminated the Sixers, 97-91, in Game 5 at AmericanAirlines Arena. The Sixers lost the opening-round series, four games to one. On this night, while staring elimination squarely in the face, it was 32-year-old Elton Brand in the first half and 27-year-old Andre Iguodala in the second who were the keys for the Sixers. Brand scored 14 of his 22 points in the first half. Iguodala scored 18 of his 22 in the second. They were

Since Allen Iverson disappeared in 2006 much of the dialogue about Iguodala, especially in Philadelphia, has been about the kind of player he isn't. "This City is Mine"? "It is a little funny," agreed Iguodala, who was born in Springfield, Ill. "Actually, it's about my hometown." This city should belong to Iguodala. Especially now. He is playing hurt. Really hurt. After practice Saturday at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner played several games of one-on-one. Iguodala and Turner might be the two players the 76ers need the most from on Sunday against the Miami Heat at the Wells Fargo Center. Certainly, Iguodala, who has scored just 19 points in this Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, must produce more if the Sixers stand a chance of avoiding a sweep and extending this best-of-seven series. Through the first three games, Iguodala and Turner each are averaging 6.3 points per game. This is especially surprising considering that Turner's 14.0 minutes a game is considerably less than Iguodala's 38.0

Andre Iguodala insists there's nothing wrong with his game, even though he scored just nine points in the first two games of this first-round playoff series against the Miami Heat. There are plenty of excuses, which Iguodala and the Sixers refuse to use -- whether it's his knee tendinitis or he's expending too much energy on defense trying to cover Miami's LeBron James and Dwyane Wade or he's concentrating too much on getting his teammates open shots. But Iguodala knows that for the Sixers to have a chance to get back into this series against the Heat -- they trail 2-0 heading into Game 3 tonight at the Wells Fargo Center -- they need more from Iguodala offensively. Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard earned his third straight title as defensive player of the year, snagging 114 of the 120 first-place votes. Iguodala received no first-place votes, five second-place votes, and 14 third-place votes from a panel of 120 sportswriters and broadcasters. "To me, he's a top-five defender," Sixers coach Doug Collins said Monday night before Game 2. "But we don't do a lot of campaigning, I don't think. Probably not enough for our guys,

Andre Iguodala is playing with a balky knee that has been bothering him most of the season and caused him to miss the final two regular-season games in order to get ready for this playoff series against the Miami Heat, which the 76ers now trail 1-0 after Saturday's 97-89 loss. In Game 1, Iguodala was originally assigned to guard LeBron James and did more than an admirable job by limiting him to four field goals. In the fourth quarter, coach Doug Collins said he moved Iguodala over to Dwyane Wade in an attempt to slow down the player who is the Heat's go-to guy down the stretch. Sometimes you say too much. During the closing minutes of Saturday's Game 1, 76ers coach Doug Collins put Philadelphia's premier defender, Andre Iguodala, on Dwyane Wade rather than LeBron James. That actually left skinny, 6-foot-4 point guard Jrue Holiday on the sturdy, 6-foot-8 James in several situations. "We tried to give them a different look than the first three quarters to see how it went," Iguodala said. Yet Wade wasn't surprised. "I read the clips," Wade said. At this moment, the Sixers are still calling it a game-time decision as to whether Andre Iguodala and Lou Williams will be available for tomorrow's Eastern Conference playoff opener against the Miami Heat. As far as the individuals involved are concerned, both have come to the same conclusion. "That's the plan," said Iguodala, who has tendinitis in his right knee and sat out the last two games to rest for the playoffs. "We want to try and get it right. THINK ABOUT THIS. People have seen Andre Iguodala walking down the streets of Philadelphia and altered whatever they were doing to come up to his face and curse at him. Think about that, really closely, because this isn't a boo during a Sixers game at the Wells Fargo Center. It isn't someone calling up talk radio to express discontent. These are people who have made a conscious decision to change a course of action and use some of their valuable time to insult Iguodala. Why? What has Iguodala done so wrong to invite that? "Oh, I get that all of the time," Iguodala said with a good-natured smile yesterday after practice. "That's nothing anymore. "I thought it was normal, because I've seen

Iguodala likely to rest knee on Wednesday

Doug Collins waited until the second to last game to rest Andre Iguodala and his aching knee. Iguodala, who has dealt with tendinitis in his right knee for the past month or so, said he hasn't ruled out playing Wednesday in the regular-season finale. But he hinted that it would be unlikely. The Sixers will begin the playoffs either Saturday or Sunday against either Miami or Boston. Assuming Iguodala doesn't play until then, he will have had eight or nine days off to rest his knee. Will that be enough? "Hopefully, it will be," Iguodala said. "But I really need like four or five weeks. We'll see. I hope it helps" Iguodala missed his 14th game of the season Monday.
