Alexander Frolov News & Rumors

Sean Avery, Alex Frolov and racial slurs lost in translation
"Sean Avery's transformation into the poster boy for cultural tolerance was jarring to some fans with long memories, because it was a scant six years ago that Georges Laraque of the Edmonton Oilers accused him of deplorable intolerance. Laraque said that the then-Los Angeles Kings agitator called him "a monkey," a claim which Avery dismissed as a fabrication. This followed another informal audition for a United Nations ambassadorship by Avery in which he called Denis Gauthier's check that concussed Jeremy Roenick in the preseason "typical of most French guys in our league with a visor on." (Still wonder how Luc Robitaille felt about that one.) Alex Frolov was Avery's teammate in Los Angeles"
Rangers left wing Alex Frolov out for season after tearing ACL and meniscus in right knee
"Alex Frolov was hoping this season would be a turning point. The two-time 30-goal scorer came to the Rangers on a one-year, $3 million contract that would allow him to rebuild his career after slipping to 19 goals in his last season with the Los Angeles Kings. Sunday, Frolov reached a different kind of turning point when he learned he had torn the ACL and meniscus in his right knee, while also suffering a sprained MCL, in a collision with Brad Winchester of the Blues in the third period of the Rangers' 2-1 victory in St. Louis on Saturday night. Frolov scored seven goals with nine assists in 43 games for the Rangers, a disappointing return from a player the Rangers hoped would provide"
Rangers' Frolov done for season
"The inclination might be to minimize the significance of the season-ending right-knee injury Alexander Frolov sustained in the Rangers' 2-1 victory in St. Louis on Saturday -- for the fact is, the winger, who has been a disappointment through the first half of the season, was back on the fourth line when he went down for the count. But there's more to it. For not only are the Blueshirts already soldiering on without previously injured forwards Ryan Callahan and Erik Christensen (and Derek Boogaard and Vinny Prospal), coach John Tortorella trusted Frolov in any situation, which is something that cannot be said as it relates to all the forwards on the roster. For better or worse, Frolov was"
Alex Frolov changes his luck
"Alex Frolov flashed a sheepish smile and admitted he did change his sticks prior to Sunday's 8-2 win over the Oilers. That and the chemistry his line with Erik Christensen (three assists) and Marian Gaborik (three goals, one assist) showed led him to snap a 10-game goal-less streak with two goals and two assists. "It's huge," said Frolov, a two-time 30-goal scorer with the Kings who now has four goals and six assists in his first season with the Rangers. "I know what I expect of myself and I know what the organization expects of me. When you can't score, you feel a lot of frustration." Frolov made it 5-2 with 4.8 seconds left in the second period as he was down on the ice at the crease. He"
Rangers' Gaborik, Frolov skate for first time together today
"Almost all of the Rangers' line combinations remain to be determined. Other than Marian Gaborik and Alex Frolov. A good portion of the team's hope of bolstering its non-Gaborik offense relies on Frolov, a free agent left wing, again being a 30-goal scorer. And the projected top-line wings get their first chance to skate together in a scrimmage today when the pucks come out after the first two days of training camp were spent on conditioning skates. Gaborik participated Saturday after a sore back suffered weightlifting had kept him off the ice since Tuesday. "The scrimmage is to mimic the game and get into game shape and find the right fit," said Gaborik, who had 42 goals and 44 assists in"
Rangers sign Kings' Frolov
"Alexander Frolov clashed with coach Terry Murray and had his ice time reduced in his final season with the Kings. The Rangers needed another offensive threat. It's fair to say the two sides needed each other and, as expected, Frolov on Tuesday agreed to a one-year deal worth $3 million to join the Rangers. "I've been in the league for a long time now; I think I know what I can do and I think people around the league know what I can do," said Frolov, a two-time 30-goal scorer who slumped to 19 goals last season. "I would say when you play a different role, play the second or third line, you do have the power play, but the second power play, it's kind of tough to produce 30-plus or 35-plus"
Scoring winger boosts Rangers' attack
"The Rangers upgraded their offensive capabilities yesterday by signing left wing Alexander Frolov to a one-year, $3 million deal that is not only cap-friendly but should serve as motivation for a player looking to build leverage in the market. There is nothing negative about the signing of the 28-year-old winger whose personally disappointing 51-point season (19-32) in Los Angeles would have made him the Rangers' third-leading scorer and whose contract leaves general manager Glen Sather enough cap space with which to maneuver. The Blueshirts currently have approximately $6.7 million of space under the summer cap with which to sign restricted free agent Marc Staal and perhaps another"
Rangers sign former Kings winger Alexander Frolov to one-year, $3 million contract
"It was time to move on, Alexander Frolov said, and the Rangers were all too happy to scoop up a player with all the tools to add some of the scoring punch they've so desperately needed in recent years. Frolov and the Rangers put the finishing touches on a one-year, $3 million contract Tuesday, bringing a two-time 30-goal scorer to Broadway after a decade in the Kings organization. The signing ends a trying summer for Frolov - two months of free-agent uncertainty and a difficult decision over where he wanted to pave his career path. The 28-year-old spurned a more lucrative offer to return home to Russia and play in the Kontinental Hockey League in favor of a short-term deal in New York,"
Rangers sign Frolov
"The New York Rangers have signed unrestricted free agent forward Alexander Frolov. Frolov has surpassed the 20-goal plateau in five of his seven NHL campaigns, including two 30-goal seasons in 2006-07 and 2008-09. Frolov, 28, has skated in 536 career regular season contests with the Los Angeles Kings, registering 168 goals and 213 assists for 381 points, along with 210 penalty minutes. He has recorded 24 multi-goal games in his career, including three career hat-tricks."
Report: Agent says Frolov will sign 1-year deal with Rangers
"Russian newspaper SovSports is reporting that unrestricted free agent Alexander Frolov is on the verge of signing with the New York Rangers; however TSN has learned that while the two-sides are in discussion, no deal has been finalized. The report has a quote from Frolov's agent, Sergei Isakov stating that Frolov is about to sign a one-year contract with the Rangers, similar to the deal that Maxim Afinogenov (another one of Isakov's clients) had with the Atlanta Thrashers last season. Afinogenov had a career season in Atlanta after he signed a one-year deal with the Thrashers worth $800,000. He has yet to reap the rewards as he remains unsigned."
Report: Kovalchuk, Frolov offered contracts by KHL
"Ilya Kovalchuk is not heading to Russia to play for the KHL, at least not yet. According to sources, the KHL will be an option for Kovalchuk, but there is nothing imminent. Sovsports, a Russian sports website, is reporting that SKA St Petersburg made an offer to Kovalchuk that would see the sniper make $30 million over a three-year span."
Frolov knows Kings need him to shoot more
"Wayne Gretzky once said, "One hundred percent of the shots you don't take don't go in," and in a game that featured 39 shots by the Kings on Wednesday, Alexander Frolov nearly gave himself a 100% chance of not scoring. Frolov, promoted to the first line in place of injured left wing Ryan Smyth, didn't take a shot until the final minute of the Kings' 3-2 loss to the Flyers. That won't fill the scoring void created by Smyth's absence and won't contribute to the kind of offensive pressure the Kings want and will need when they face the Flames at 1 p.m. Saturday at Staples Center. Frolov said Friday he will "try to keep it in mind and shoot when I have some chances," though he said he won't"
Frolov is back in the Kings' lineup
"After taking the surprising step Monday of scratching a healthy Alexander Frolov from the Kings' game at Dallas, Kings Coach Terry Murray said he left "an opening in the door" for Frolov to return. "And that was whenever you're ready to come back, knock on my door come in and sit down and look me in the eye and talk to me and tell me you're ready to get going and play the game that I know you're capable of bringing," Murray said, "and that's what happened here this morning." Murray reinstated Frolov for Thursday night's game against Dallas at Staples Center but in a new spot. Frolov, who has only one goal after scoring a team-high 32 last season, will flank Michal Handzus and Dustin Brown."
Murray denies Heatley dealt to Sharks
"Sooner or later, maybe even in the next few days, Dany Heatley will get his wish and be traded out of Ottawa. However, for now he's going to have to grin and bear it, and show up for training camp. He will be able to keep a low profile again today, though, because the Senators said late Thursday night he would not take part in the team's charity golf tournament at the Kanata Golf and Country Club. Heatley had been expected to tee off with his teammates, but the team said it wanted to keep the focus on the Sens Foundation. According to workers at the Shell Aeroecentre at the Ottawa International Airport, Heatley was spotted arriving late Thursday night on a charter flight from somewhere"
Sharks deny Marleau report
"Sharks general manager Doug Wilson told The Chronicle that an ESPN.com report that San Jose has agreed to trade the team's all-time leading scorer, Patrick Marleau, and acquire Ottawa forward Dany Heatley is "complete bull." According to ESPN.com, the Sharks have reached an agreement to send Marleau, recently stripped of his title as team captain, to Los Angeles as part of a three-way deal that would bring Heatley to San Jose and send Alexander Frolov and Jarret Stoll to the Senators. Wilson, Kings general manager Dean Lombardi and Senators GM Bryan Murray issued denials to ESPN.com. Heatley, a two-time 50-goal scorer, has requested a trade, but, like Marleau, his contract has a no-trade"
McKenzie: No Truth To Reports That Heatley Has Been Traded
"Here we go again. Amid reports that the Ottawa Senators have traded Dany Heatley to the San Jose Sharks as part of a three-way deal with the Los Angeles Kings, sources tell TSN nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, sources tell TSN that not only is the report of a three-way deal being done not true, but the Senators are no closer to trading Heatley now than they have been for most of the summer."
