Ahman Green News

If it’s not one thing, it’s another
"One of these days, you’re going to see the real Ahman Green again. Maybe it won’t be this afternoon against the Colts, and maybe it won’t be during his time with the Texans. But it’ll happen again someday, someplace. Green is not an over-the-hill running back clinging to a dream. He’s not. He’s not. He’s not. “I know when I’m healthy I can do certain things,” he said. “It’s just unfortunate the way the ball bounced for us and for myself personally. I’ve been fighting injuries. I definitely know it’s not because of my age. There were a lot of things going on last year for myself personally.” There was plenty going on. The death of his father after a long fight against cancer. Adjusting to a ..."
Green's status for Sunday uncertain
"Running back Ahman Green missed practice Wednesday, and his status for Sunday’s game in Minnesota is still uncertain. He said his leg is feeling better daily, though. “It was a cramp I caught when I was running and it irritated the groin a little bit,” Green said. “And then my hamstring got a little sore, too.” Green said it’s different from the injury that caused him to miss time during the preseason, saying that it’s not as serious as the groin strain he suffered then. If he’s going to play Sunday, Green hopes to practice today or Friday. “That’s how I usually work,” he said. “I like to get at least one day, if not two, so I know if I got a burst out or do certain things the plays call ..."
Green leaves game with cramps
"Ahman Green, who has been oft-injured in his brief Texans career, left again Sunday with what he called “a cramp in my leg, my left leg. Other than that,” he said, “I’m good. I just have to get treatment and get ready for Minnesota.” Green carried nine times for 41 yards with a long run of 11. Sure-handed receiver Andre Johnson’s 41 catches in October are the second most for the month since 1970. Only Eric Moulds, a former Texan then with Buffalo, had more with 42 in 2000. Johnson’s 591 yards in October is the fifth highest total since the NFL-AFL merger. Friendly competition Wide receiver Chad Ocho Cinco spent a number of minutes talking with pal Andre Johnson at midfield after the game. ..."
RB Green having ankle evaluated
"Despite saying he was only battling “cramping” after the season opener, running back Ahman Green spent Monday having his ankle evaluated by the Texans’ medical staff. Coach Gary Kubiak said Green sprained the ankle in the first half against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Green played sparingly throughout the game, but was feeling pain Monday. The Texans are deciding what to do with just Chris Taylor and Steve Slaton healthy. “My concern right now is Ahman’s ankle,” Kubiak said. “If it’s going to be a problem then, you know, Darius (Walker) is going to be our first option.” Walker is on the team’s practice squad. The Texans will work out a number of backs today at Reliant Stadium. The group does not ..."
Texans RB Green agrees to restructure contract
"Running back Ahman Green agreed Wednesday to restructure the 2008 portion of his four-year contract, reducing his base salary from $3.8 million to $1.8 million. The deal frees up $2 million in salary cap money for the Texans. Green, who hasn’t played since suffering a groin injury on the first play of preseason against Denver, is expected to start the first regular-season game at Pittsburgh. In the deal negotiated by general manager Rick Smith and agent Joby Branion, Green agreed to give up $2 million in base salary and a $500,000 bonus for a chance to make $3 million in per-game bonuses. In addition to his $1.8 million base, beginning with the second game — the home opener against ..."
Running back Green, Texans keep faith
"At least Ahman Green will have fresh legs when the Texans finally play a game that counts. How’s that for a silver lining? Right, Ahman? “I’m very happy with the way it’s going,” he said. “It’s nothing serious. It’s one of those training-camp things where you get kind of worn out. You’ve just got to get your legs back under you.” Now about that regular-season opener in Pittsburgh? Any doubt? “Zero.” In the end, that’s all that matters. Coaches would love to have Green on the field for a few preseason snaps, but after all that has happened in the last year, they’d be thrilled to have him healthy for the opener. Cue the party line. “I am encouraged by what he tells me,” Gary Kubiak ..."
Green’s time with Texans has been more wait than see
"Ahman Green insists all is well, considering his body betrayed him one play into his first exhibition game. Nary a soul touched him, but there’s no cause for alarm. It’s just a minor aggravation to the groin. Nothing to see here. Please disperse. “The good thing is, I’ve got a lot of time to get better,” Green said. Actually, one of life’s certainties — alongside taxes and least-common-denominator reality shows — is that Green does not have time on his side. The Texans may not begin their season until Sept. 7, but time is much more of a foe than a friend to Green. Green is 31, which may be young for a doctor or a captain of industry. In NFL running-back years, though, Green is loping ..."
Green ready to make up for 2007
"Successful professional athletes don’t go gently into the good night. They are, it seems, genetically programmed to rage, rage against the dying of the light. Ask Brett Favre. Ask Ahman Green, too. Green is adamant his aborted first season with the Texans was the function of bad luck and worse timing, considering he was injured in the season-opener. It had nothing whatsoever to do with his age, the fuel left in his tank or his level of motivation. He says he intends to prove this to skeptical Texans fans come September, if he can just survive the next few weeks. Like most veterans, certainly those who are on the back side of 30, Green makes no bones about his distaste for the summertime ..."
