Aaron Brooks News & Rumors

Phoenix Suns face tough decision with Aaron Brooks
"The Suns had not seen Aaron Brooks play since they were eliminated last April and had not spoken to him since the NBA lockout began in July. Before the Suns make a decision between signing Brooks this month and letting him become a restricted free agent in July, General Manager Lance Blanks visited Brooks in China during the close of his play in the Chinese Basketball Association finals. The Suns remain unsettled on how to act on Brooks, although it seems doubtful that he will join a team with three point guards and play at this stage. The Suns could sign Brooks to a multiyear contract while they have exclusive negotiating rights, but that would cut into their July salary-cap flexibility"
Suns' Aaron Brooks having success in China
"There is one NBA player left in the Chinese Basketball Association, and his rights belong to the Suns. Point guard Aaron Brooks is the star of the Guangdong Southern Tigers, who are a victory away from reaching the CBA Finals. Once the four-time defending champions' season ends, Brooks would be free to sign with Phoenix, but only about a month of the regular season would remain. As a restricted free agent, Brooks was eligible to receive an offer sheet from other teams through March 1, but he remained under contract in China, where deals forbid players from leaving for the NBA until their teams' seasons ended or a release."
Phoenix Suns guard Aaron Brooks plans to sign with Chinese team
"Aaron Brooks waited as long as he could bear for the NBA but the Chinese Basketball Association kept calling. After NBA labor talks dissolved this week, Brooks accepted a $2 million-plus offer to play a season for CBA four-time defending champion Guangdong. He will be unable to return to the NBA until his CBA season ends. Brooks is an NBA restricted free agent, allowing the Suns to match any NBA offer to keep him. Brooks believes he will remain a restricted free agent whether he returns to the NBA immediately after his CBA tenure (the season ends Feb. 15; the playoffs end in March) or if he is in the 2012 summer free-agency pool. Suns teammate Josh Childress left Atlanta for Greece in 2008"
Suns' guard Aaron Brooks expected to sign in China
"Suns guard Aaron Brooks has agreed to a one-year deal with a Chinese team that would not allow him to return to the NBA until the Chinese Basketball Association season ends in mid-February, according to a Yahoo! report. Brooks, 26, is a restricted free agent, which would have allowed the Suns an opportunity to match any offer he received on the open market. Based on how Suns forward Josh Childress left Atlanta for Greece in 2008 and remained a restricted free agent upon his return last year, it would seem that the Suns would retain Brooks' rights when he returns to the league. However, with a new collective bargaining agreement coming, nobody can be sure what the rules will be."
Brooks returning to Suns?
"The Phoenix Suns and Aaron Brooks can't discuss business while the lockout is in effect but the 26-year-old restricted free agent point guard, who was traded to the team at the deadline this year, thinks he'll be staying in Arizona, according to HoopsWorld. "All signs point to me going back to Phoenix," Brooks said, HoopsWorld reports. "I had a good time. I like the organization and it's a great city. I would love to continue playing in Phoenix. I would love to stay with this team. This summer, I'm going to get more comfortable with the guys. I want to get to know everyone a little bit better and then hopefully we have a better season than we did last year.""
Kings to make a play for Aaron Brooks?
"One of the big questions after the Kings' draft-day moves was "Who is going to get the ball to all these guys?" They traded for John Salmons (21% usage) to go with Marcus Thornton (25% usage), and Tyreke Evans (25 percent usage), then drafted Jimmer Fredette, who's not a playmaker and who's biggest contribution is scoring and ability to create his own shot. So who's going to, you know, pass these guys the ball? Or is Sacramento just going to run the Oklahoma City Thunder offense of a zillion ISOs? Well, according to the New York Daily News, they have a plan for who to get to run the show… except it doesn't make any sense: With Jimmer Fredette's addition to a backcourt featuring Tyreke"
Suns expected to extend qualifying offer to Brooks
"In the coming days, the Suns are expected to tender a qualifying offer of nearly $3 million to Aaron Brooks to make him a restricted free agent. Under the current CBA rules, the Suns would be able to match any offer made to Brooks in free agency and re-sign him."
Zabian Dowdell steps in for suspended Aaron Brooks
"Third-string Suns point guard Zabian Dowdell learned his pro career's biggest moment was coming two hours before it happened. Dowdell was on the bus to Staples Center on Sunday morning when he was told Aaron Brooks had been suspended by the NBA for the game against the Clippers, setting up the rookie for his most-important basketball minutes since the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The Suns did not have much more warning, learning Sunday that the NBA had suspended Brooks for throwing a ball at official Matt Boland's leg in Friday's win vs. Golden State. Brooks fell down on a drive in the fourth quarter and slid out of bounds with no foul call, prompting Brooks to hurl the ball at Boland while on"
Aaron Brooks suspended for Sunday's game against Clippers
"The NBA suspended Phoenix Suns guard Aaron Brooks for today's game at the Los Angeles Clippers, likely for his action in the fourth quarter when he turned the ball over falling out of bounds, got up and threw the ball toward an official. He was assessed a technical foul at the time and Suns coach Alvin Gentry immediately took him out. The Suns just learned of the suspension this morning, which is not much notice for a 12:30 p.m. game. Again, carrying a third point guard proves huge. Zabian Dowdell can step in for playing time just as he did when Steve Nash was out for two games last week."
Aaron Brooks treads lightly in Phoenix Suns debut
"Aaron Brooks is not shy about shooting. He took 105 shots in 204 minutes this month with Houston. But in his Suns debut, he treaded lightly. After arriving in Indianapolis at 3 p.m. Saturday, Brooks had no more than some chats, a DVD playbook and a Sunday morning team meeting to get ready for a noon tipoff against the Indiana Pacers. The new backup point guard, acquired from Houston in a trade for Goran Dragic and a first-round draft pick, took two shots in 10 minutes. In six second-quarter minutes, Brooks helped the second unit stretch the lead from four to eight with a quick drive and an assist to Jared Dudley. Brooks' fourth-quarter stint did not last as long. The reserves let a"
Phoenix Suns trade Goran Dragic for Aaron Brooks from Houston Rockets
"Shortly after the Suns' flight landed in Toronto on Wednesday, Steve Nash told Goran Dragic that he had been traded. Nash had flipped on his phone first, saw news that the Suns traded Dragic and a first-round pick to Houston for Aaron Brooks and caught Dragic before he saw his phone's messages. Dragic said he was "shocked." Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby was surprised too, having believed Wednesday morning that there was no chance of a trade. Then, Houston called and the Suns closed the deal five minutes before Thursday's 1 p.m. deadline. The Suns traded their third-year point guard, once called an heir apparent to Nash, with a protected first-round pick for Brooks, a"
Rockets trade Battier, Brooks in separate deals
"The Rockets made major changes to their roster at the trade deadline, sending Shane Battier and Ish Smith to Memphis for Hasheem Thabeet and a first-round pick, and Aaron Brooks to Phoenix for Goran Dragic and another pick, according to persons close to the deals. Thabeet, the second pick of the 2009 draft, is considered a long-term project who has struggled in his time with Memphis. The first-round pick was considered the key to the deal. The Rockets had considered sending Brooks to Minnesota for Johnny Flynn, but they opted to take the Phoenix deal instead. The pick from Phoenix is lottery protected. If the Suns don't make the playoffs, the Rockets would get the pick the Suns acquired"
Phoenix Suns trading Goran Dragic for Aaron Brooks from Houston Rockets
"The Phoenix Suns have traded Goran Dragic and a lottery-protected first-round pick to the Houston Rockets for guard Aaron Brooks. If the Suns fail to make the playoffs, they would keep their own pick and send their other first-round pick, acquired earlier this season from Orlando, to Houston. Brooks, 26, is averaging 11.6 points per game and 3.8 assists this season. The 6-0, 161-pound guard played college basketball at Oregon."
Nets trying to trade for Aaron Brooks or Danilo Gallinari
"The relationship with Devin Harris seems damaged beyond repair, and the Nets have been exploring different ways to ship out the most accomplished player on their roster. At least one proposal is based on the Knicks finalizing a deal with Denver. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Nets, Nuggets and Mavericks have discussed a three-way deal that would return Harris to Dallas and send former Knicks Raymond Felton and Timofey Mozgov to the Nets. According to a source, the Nets are also trying to pry Danilo Gallinari from the Nuggets and point guard Aaron Brooks from the Rockets. However, Nuggets GM Masai Uriji told NBA.com Monday night that he will not trade Gallinari or Mozgov. The Nets have"
Uncertain Rockets get back to work
"With their season teetering on the brink of collapse and the trade deadline looming ominously just days away, the Rockets reconvened Monday knowing that the next three days could change everything. They begin the post-All-Star break schedule tonight with a road back-to-back, coming off a 1-3 homestand that further reduced their slim margin for error. They head into games against Detroit and Cleveland knowing that the next time they play, they could look very different as a team since Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been trying feverishly to upgrade the roster before Thursday's trade deadline. "Something is going to happen," guard Aaron Brooks said. "Something will happen. We have"
Brooks feels pressure
"Brooks feels pressure Rockets guard Aaron Brooks returned from his one-game suspension on Tuesday. His shot did not. Brooks was just 1-of-8 from the field, missing badly on his final shots, and said he was pressing following the attention that came with his suspension. "You want to do well," Brooks said. "Some of the shots I got out there, I rushed them. I don't remember the last time I shot the ball that bad as far as the misses were concerned. I'm trying to get back the feel, not worry about it and get back the next game.""
Change is coming, but in what form?
"If you like these Rockets, catch them while you can. Change is coming, possibly dramatic change. The Rockets aren't good enough as they're configured, so general manager Daryl Morey is working furiously to change the configuration. His team needs talent, size, defense and rebounding. Carmelo Anthony appears to be at the top of his wish list, and Morey would trade for him without any guarantee of signing him to a long-term contract. He knows Anthony wants to play for the Knicks, but at this point will take his chances. Morey also has asked about Chris Paul, Josh Smith, DeAndre Jordan, Anderson Varejao and a long list of others. Everyone on the Rockets' roster is available as the NBA's"
Brooks apologizes for leaving court
"Contrite and "embarrassed," Rockets guard Aaron Brooks returned Tuesday from his one-game suspension vowing to make up for leaving the court in the fourth quarter Saturday. "Just a lot of emotions. Just a bad, bad, terrible decision," Brooks said. "I'm going to try to make up for it any way I can, just play hard and show I'm truly sorry. "Emotions got the best of me. It was an embarrassing moment for myself. I wish I wouldn't have done it. That's not the type of guy I am." Coach Rick Adelman said he is convinced Brooks will not make the same sort of mistake again and that Brooks would return to his previous role in the rotation as Kyle Lowry's backup at point guard, often playing as a"
Rockets trying to move Brooks, Knicks involved?
"Things can change quickly in professional sports. One minute you're the star of a team, a building block for the future. The next, you're on the trade block. That appears to be the story for Rockets guard Aaron Brooks as Newsday reports that Houston is "going to try hard" to move Brooks before the Feb. 24 deadline. The report also says the Knicks are interested in acquiring Brooks. Brooks is a restricted free agent after this season, so that will bring down the price tag. He's making $2 million this season. As pointed out by Posting and Toasting, a potential trade could include Kelenna Azubuike's expiring deal ($3.3 million) that is eligible to have 80 percent covered by insurance. The"
Brooks' status with Rockets unclear
"Aaron Brooks' one-game suspension for leaving the court in the fourth quarter of the Rockets' victory over Memphis on Saturday might not be the extent of his penalty. Asked if Brooks, a 6-0 guard, would return to his previous spot in the rotation for tonight's game against Minnesota, coach Rick Adelman said he did not know. "I can't answer that," Adelman said. "I'll be talking to him tomorrow. I have not conversed with him. All I can say is what he did was completely the wrong thing to do, and he has to suffer the consequences for it." With Aaron Brooks suspended for Monday night's game, the Rockets recalled Ish Smith from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. In"
Early exit nets Brooks one-game suspension
"Frustrated for weeks about his diminished role, Rockets guard Aaron Brooks will have no role at all tonight against the Denver Nuggets. The Rockets suspended Brooks for one game for leaving the court in the fourth quarter of Saturday's win over the Memphis Grizzlies at Toyota Center, general manager Daryl Morey said. Morey said he would have no additional comment. Brooks did not travel with the Rockets to Denver on Sunday. Rookie guard Ish Smith will be recalled from the NBA Development League in time to join the team in Denver. Brooks was taken out of Saturday's game with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter, but instead of heading to the bench, he went to the locker room. Brooks has said he"
Brooks suspended after walking off court
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks will be suspended for Monday's game in Denver after leaving the court in the fourth quarter Saturday at Toyota Center, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. Morey said he would have no additional comment. A one-game suspension is customary in such situations. Brooks did not travel with the Rockets to Denver on Sunday."
No stars in Brooks' eyes when in L.A.
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks has had some of his top games against the Lakers, going back to his 2009 playoff series. But he said facing Los Angeles does not necessarily help his confidence. "If I feel good, I feel good, no matter who the team is," Brooks said. "I don't care who the team is. My thing is, I don't think it's my confidence. Eventually, I'll do it regardless of who the other team is." With Lakers center Andrew Bynum out with a bruised left knee, Rockets coach Rick Adelman was given some defensive options in the frontcourt. Adelman has traditionally likes to defend Ron Artest with a power forward, which he would not have been able to do with two 7-footers (Pau Gasol being the"
Brooks still looking for form
"Rockets coach Rick Adelman considered all that had changed with the Rockets since last season, weighing the differences between a team that overachieved enough that its record never dipped below .500 and one that never has surpassed break even. The biggest difference, he said, was the smallest player. "I came up with all kinds of answers," Adelman said. "The No. 1 (factor) was Aaron Brooks being out for 23 games. That's why I try to give him more time at the end of the game. He's a guy that breaks people down. And he's a guy that we need to get better and better as the season went on." But Brooks, a 6-0 guard, has not been the same since he launched a shot at the halftime buzzer in the"
Brooks plays role of closer in victory
"Midway through the fourth quarter, Rick Adelman sent Kyle Lowry to the scorer's table to check in for Aaron Brooks. Moments later, however, Lowry returned to the bench, with Adelman opting to try Brooks in his former closer's role in part to help get him going. "Aaron had made a couple shots," Adelman said. "He's been struggling a bit. I thought let's let Aaron get an experience like he had last year, give him some confidence." Brooks immediately hit a 3-pointer, his first in six attempts. He finished with 15 points, making five of 14 shots before fouling out. Timberwolves forward Kevin Love is on pace to be the first player to average at least 20 points and 15 rebounds since Moses Malone"
Catching teams off guard
"Aaron Brooks held his right hand above his head extra long, as if keeping it there would direct the flight of the ball toward the net or at least provide the ideal pose for the photographers focusing their lenses on him. When his fifth 3-pointer of the night swished, he turned toward the Celtics bench to shout a few words toward childhood rival Nate Robinson and then, with Boston calling time out, headed toward the Rockets bench, where a flurry of giddy congratulations awaited him. Brooks was back, not just on the floor, but with the defiant attitude absent as he limped through eight games following his return from his Nov. 6 ankle injury. "Aaron played awesome," Kyle Lowry said. "It felt"
Rockets shrug off injuries, nip Celtics
"Confidence was shaken. The losing streak was at five games. There had not been a victory against a team with a winning record since the first day of December. All the Rockets needed were a few more injuries. No matter what else they lacked, they knew they could find enough of those. For a third consecutive season in Boston, the Rockets discovered a fresh batch of injuries to go with their usual assortment. And for a third consecutive season, the Rockets stunned the Celtics, rolling through an outstanding offensive half to end their losing streak with a 108-102 win at TD Garden on Monday night. "That's three years," said Aaron Brooks, who returned from missing three games with a relapse of"
Brooks sidelined with ankle injury
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks remained out of the lineup Saturday against the Utah Jazz, missing a third consecutive game with an ankle injury. Brooks went through an extensive workout prior to Friday's loss at Orlando, but the ankle did not respond well enough for him to return and he was on the team's inactive list for the third straight game."
Brooks on mend again
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks was inactive with a flare-up of the ankle sprain that had kept him out for six weeks. With Brooks listed as day-to-day, Courtney Lee was Kyle Lowry's backup at the point, and Terrence Williams got his first meaningful playing time with the Rockets. "He said it's been bothering him," Rockets coach Rick Adelman said of Brooks' injury."
Brooks coming along
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks struggled through his first three games since his Nov. 6 ankle sprain, but said they were a good start. Brooks made six of 21 shots, taking 15 from beyond the 3-point line. "It was good practice to get out there," Brooks said. "We've been on this road swing. We haven't had too many practices. I think it was good to get out there, get my endurance up. I'm getting better, getting closer.""
Duo finally teams up, only not in football
"Terrence Williams had watched Aaron Brooks pass and imagined himself on the receiving end. He was younger and at a point when athletes are separated by their age, but he was long and strong and carried a growing reputation. He was 11 and had yet to start playing basketball. And if he was going to be a teammate of Brooks, it was assumed it would be in football. Williams, acquired by the Rockets last week, was a young wide receiver and safety who had seen Brooks play quarterback. Brooks was a passer who, despite his quickness, did not like to keep the ball. Williams, however, was two years younger and never hooked up with Brooks in those days in Seattle. Instead, he played for Brooks'"
Brooks savors first win in return
"As he weighed how to bring Aaron Brooks back in his first game since his ankle injury Nov. 6, Rockets coach Rick Adelman said the decision was more about Brooks and how he might play than his impact on the rotation. "He had not practiced (much)," Adelman said of bringing Brooks off the bench. "He practiced that one day for three quarters of that practice, then he's just been working out with the strength and conditioning guys. I think I'm just going to bring him around slow, put him in for Kyle (Lowry) toward the end of the first quarter, see how he goes from there and kind of do it that way at least for this trip. "It's not going to be hard. When he comes in, we'll go to him, see how he's"
Brooks expected to play against Kings
"Kyle Lowry, fresh off perhaps the finest game of his career and a blowout of his former team, wrapped an arm around Aaron Brooks and delivered a message as direct and accurate as any of his 18 assists Friday against Memphis. "All right, AB," Lowry said, "It's time." Brooks had been out since he landed on Manu Ginobili's foot Nov. 6 in San Antonio but, after a week of increasingly challenging workouts, is expected to return to the floor today against the Sacramento Kings. His return will depend on how he responds to Saturday's practice, including a one-on-one session with Courtney Lee, and the flight to Sacramento. If Brooks plays, Rockets coach Rick Adelman said he will work Brooks in"
Brooks' progress slow
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks traveled with the team for the first time since he sprained his left ankle on Nov. 6. He did not have a timetable for when he could play and said he was disappointed to feel as sore as he did after his first practice with the team on Monday. "It was OK, just OK," Brooks said. "I don't know what I expected. I didn't expect to be pain-free. It was a first practice. They said it went OK. I just don't feel like myself. I think that's what gets me.""
Yao, Brooks set target dates for return
"Rockets center Yao Ming returned to the court for Wednesday morning's shootaround, moving him an important step closer to being back on the floor for the games themselves. Yao said he is targeting Tuesday's game against the Detroit Pistons and former Rockets teammate Tracy McGrady for his return from a sprained and bruised left ankle he suffered Nov. 10 in Washington. His participation in the walk-through was his first activity with the team since then, and he said he plans to practice today. Yao is not expected to join the team on its road trip to Memphis and Chicago this weekend. "(I) went through a full shootaround, moved a little bit," Yao said. "I feel pretty active. We are scheduled"
Yao, Brooks racing to return
"Yao Ming, happy to no longer wear the protective boot on his sprained left ankle, believed he had taken the lead in his race with guard Aaron Brooks in who will return to the floor quicker. Both would return in early December if they are out the minimum projected time. Still, Yao was happy to have cleared another hurdle. "I think that's a very active signal there," Yao said. "It feels so comfortable, so good to wear regular shoes walking. Let's move on. I almost forgot to wear socks today. "I think I have a pretty good chance (in the race with Brooks) now." "Please," Brooks said. "They said the boot might help. I can go without it, but I can (heal) faster if I keep it on. It's not a"
Suns' Hill offers Brooks advice on ankle
"With Aaron Brooks still weeks away from a return from his sprained left ankle, Suns veteran Grant Hill made sure to give him medical advice. "Grant Hill told me to take my time," Brooks said. "He was walking past me, and he told me to take my time. He would know." Hill had ankle problems far greater than any Brooks has encountered, limiting him to 47 games over a three-year span and to 21 games in another season. But that was not the only reason he might have been the right player to deliver the message. "I had a Grant Hill jersey," Brooks said. "I watched him when he was at Duke. He actually knows who I am so that's pretty interesting. I blocked his shot once. He was falling."
Brooks, Yao in race to return to court
"Aaron Brooks arrived in the Rockets' locker room with shoes on both feet for the first time since his Nov. 6 sprained ankle, prompting Yao Ming to shout, "No boot." "We're in a race," said Brooks, who was cleared to remove the protective boot on his left foot Sunday. "We're neck and neck. Maybe we'll come back together." If Brooks can come back at the earliest projected time, it would Dec. 4 against Chicago. If Yao comes back in his minimum rehab time, it would be the previous day, though he is expected to need time to work on his conditioning. Hoping to come back as soon as he is cleared, Yao has been running on an Alter-G treadmill that controls the amount of weight he puts on his feet."
Brooks to miss 4-6 weeks with injury
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks said after Sunday's game he was told to expect to miss four to six weeks with a sprained left ankle he suffered at the end of the first half Saturday night in an overtime defeat at San Antonio. The injury snapped his streak of 119 consecutive games played. "I don't think I ever had an ankle injury like this before," Brooks said. "I did break my hand in college, sat out like eight weeks. "As far as football, I never had any injury. Luckily, nothing is broken. It's a sprain. I'll be back to normal. "You have to count your blessings." Brooks was injured when he landed on Manu Ginobili's right foot, but said he did not think Ginobili did anything improper in"
Rockets lose Aaron Brooks and Kevin Martin to ankle injuries
"Of all the losses to begin the Rockets' season, this one was the most impressive, most remarkable and in its own way, the most excruciating. Aaron Brooks had been carried to the locker room at halftime, his left ankle painfully sprained. Kevin Martin had limped to the locker room with a turned left ankle. Yao Ming was on the bench in street clothes, sitting out the first half of the back-to-back. With the Rockets winless and wounded, the Spurs went for the knockout and hit hard, pushing the lead to as much as 14, when the Rockets who were left made their unlikely bid for the season's first win. The Rockets gave chase until the final seconds, when their hopes for the breakthrough finally"
Brooks puts in extra work on jumper
"After hitting on three of nine shots against Denver on Saturday, Rockets guard Aaron Brooks took to the Toyota Center practice court for extra shooting drills. His shooting could be especially important tonight against Chris Paul and the Hornets. "I just wanted to get some shots up," Brooks said. "I didn't play too much the last game (26 minutes). I wanted to take extra shots. It's something I do from time to time ." Brooks made only 35 percent of his shots in the season's first three games. But in four games against the Hornets last season, he hit 52.1 percent including 57.9 percent from the 3-point line. His scoring especially important against New Orleans in order to keep Paul busy as a"
Brooks not fretting over lack of extension
"The deadline for players selected in the 2007 first round to receive contract extensions passed Monday without guard Aaron Brooks receiving an extension offer from the Rockets. Brooks, 25, had expressed his frustration with going into the last season of his contract during training camp but said Monday that he has accepted the franchise's position. "We talked about it," Brooks said. "They explained their reasoning. I'm cool with that. I'll move on." Only three players — Kevin Durant, Joakim Noah and Al Horford - from the 2007 first round have received contract extensions. But Brooks said that does not make him feel better about his situation because he hasn't given it any thought since the"
Brooks joins Battier as team captains
"As part of his responsibilities as team captain, Shane Battier drafted another team captain, having point guard Aaron Brooks join him for pregame meetings with officials to allow Brooks to talk with them about something other than calls he doesn't like. "Aaron and I have been doing the pregame referees meeting," Battier said. "He was reluctant to do it, but I think it will benefit him." Brooks led the Rockets with nine technical fouls last season. "Learning their names is important," Brooks said. "I never had a conversation with the refs besides them making a bad call. This is a chance to work on that relationship because it matters." Maybe a little nerv-Ish With Kyle Lowry out with back"
Adelman likes team's depth at point
"Even though point guard Kyle Lowry sat out Tuesday's practice with a bruised knee, Rockets coach Rick Adelman considers the position so deep that he will face tough roster decisions. Shooting guard Courtney Lee picked up extra repetitions at point guard with Aaron Brooks and Ishmael Smith. Adelman believes Lee could man the position for limited stretches and that Smith has been "impressive." "Ish is very good, and Courtney can get by (at point guard) for short times," Adelman said. "We've been kind of forced to do that at camp because Kyle went out. Both are good players, and Ish is a true point guard. We're going to have some decisions to make."
Brooks unhappy he's not cashing in
"There was no sign of Aaron Brooks' familiar, easy smile. The wit as quick as his first step was gone. When discussing his contract Tuesday, Brooks found no humor. Brooks had hoped his breakthrough season and status as the NBA's Most Improved Player award winner would prompt the Rockets to offer a contract extension. Instead, he said the Rockets' unwillingness to work on a new deal for beyond this season is "bothering" him. "It's kind of stressful," Brooks said. "I was hoping we maybe could get something done this summer, but we couldn't, so I'm stuck in the position I'm in. "I understand, but it's bothering me. It's the business of basketball. You have to take it like it is. I'm stuck with"
Brooks likes team's intensity
"The Rockets long off-season finally ended with Saturday's start of training camp, Rockets guard Aaron Brooks said he noticed a difference from the start of his previous two camps. "You can just tell the intensity is different," Brooks said. "Everybody is out there competing, pushing each other. Sitting out, not making the playoffs, I think lit a fire under everybody. Everybody's out there playing hard. It was a long break. I don't think anybody is used to that. Definitely a different intensity." The lottery season, however, might not have been the only source of motivation. "We're deep at all positions so there's competition at every position," Brooks said. "That's good for us. It's going"
Rockets Aaron Brooks named the winner of the NBA Most Improved Player Award
"There was talk of All-Star teams and playoff runs, of different varieties of greatness. Rockets television announcer Bill Worrell even said Aaron Brooks, who on Thursday was named the winner of the NBA Most Improved Player Award, could be "as great" as Worrell's longtime on-air partner, Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy. Brooks, however, set his sights on an unprecedented achievement perhaps even more difficult. The 25th winner of the award said he would aim to win it again. "I still have a lot of improvement (to do)," Brooks said. "With that said, hopefully I can win this award next year. I know (it would) be the first time that happened, but that would be nice." Brooks was a runaway winner of"
Rockets' Brooks to be named NBA's Most Improved Player
"Rockets guard Aaron Brooks will be named the winner of the NBA Most Improved Player award on Thursday, according to a person with knowledge of the voting. Brooks will be the first Rockets player to win one of the league's performance awards since Steve Francis was a co-rookie of the year 10 years ago. "It would mean a lot," Brooks said after the final regular-season game last week. "That's all I can really say. "I'm happy pretty much all around (with his improvement). I'm not satisfied. I still have work to do. To win it twice in a row, that would be great. I have to become more consistent. I still want to increase my assist to turnovers (ratio.) To be up for this award, with the talent"
Brooks covets Most Improved Award
"As much as Rockets guard Aaron Brooks said he "would be totally honored" to win the NBA Most Improved Award, he said it also would be a triumph over the team's lack of national attention this season. The Rockets played just one nationally televised game this season. "It would be wonderful," Brooks said. "I think the guys that watch the game must have NBA TV. They must have seen some games. It would be a tremendous accomplishment for me, one of the best individual awards I've got so far. I would be totally honored if I got Most Improved. "I'm happy pretty much all around. I'm not satisfied. I still have work to do. To win it twice in a row, that would be great. I still want to be more"
