Dallas Stars News

Owner laying foundation to broaden Stars' appeal
"There is no joy in the following as much as there is relief -- the Dallas Stars are finally acknowledging they need Fort Worth. For the longest time, this organization desperately just wanted to be Dallas -- and just Dallas -- and it got away with it. You knew there had been a seismic shift when the Stars hired Jim Lites back to be their team president in December, and he said to me, "We have to get back into Fort Worth." Back? Try start. For far too long, this organization catered to the desires of the fans who lived in Dallas, mostly North Dallas, because that's all it needed to do. Perhaps with good reason. Maybe the Tarrant County folks weren't going, or watching. With the team staring"
Brenden Morrow will sit out at least a couple of more weeks
"Brenden Morrow's recovery for pain and stiffness in his back, neck and shoulder will take at least ``a couple of more weeks,'' Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said today. ``He's not making the progress we had hoped for, so we just need to let him continue his rehabilitation and therapy and that will probably take at least a couple of more weeks,'' Gulutzan said. Morrow has been bothered by stiffness in his upper back and neck that make it painful at times and also make it difficult to turn his head. He has used rest and injections to deal with the problem for more than a year, but those solutions aren't working as well now. ``The injections were great at first, and they really solved the"
Sheldon Souray day-to-day with foot injury
"Sheldon Souray missed Friday's game with a bruised foot. He was hit by a shot in Columbus on Thursday. He is listed as day-to-day. Mark Fistric took his place in the lineup. It was Fistric's fourth game in the team's last eight."
Stars 4, Blue Jackets 2: More injuries, another loss
"he toughest question Blue Jackets interim coach Todd Richards faced in his postgame news conference last night came when he was asked for a rundown on the club's injured players. Seriously, who could keep it straight? The Blue Jackets lost another game — 4-2 to the Dallas Stars before 15,943 in Nationwide Arena — and they lost two more players to long-term injuries. Defenseman Marc Methot was struck in the left side of the face by a puck just before the Stars took a 2-0 lead only 4:21 into the game. After writhing on the ice for nearly a minute, Methot skated to the dressing room with a towel pressed to his face. He left behind a pool of blood on the ice. He suffered a broken jaw, Richards"
Could Brenden Morrow's time with Dallas Stars be over?
"The Stars have a little fewer than 30 games remaining in their season to make the playoffs and regain some relevancy in this market. They are dangerously close to missing the postseason for a fourth consecutive year. After winning at Columbus 4-2 on Thursday night, the Stars are in a three-way tie for ninth place with Minnesota and Calgary in the Western Conference with 58 points -- two points out of a playoff spot. By now the Stars' 11-3-0 start has been replaced by an ugly reality that this team is just OK, and no real threat despite the presence of forwards Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson and goalie Kari Lehtonen."
Winter Classic to Dallas? Never say never, league boss says
"NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Thursday that he still believes the NHL will be realigned, and that fans and teams will be happy with the results. Bettman was in Columbus on Thursday to meet with the media after announcing that the 2013 All-Star Game will take place here. Asked about the recent realignment proposal for the 2012-13 season that was approved by the Board of Governors but scuttled when the NHL Players Association had problems with it, Bettman said he's not frustrated. "This league has had 13 different types of alignment and scheduling in the regular season since 1966. The playoffs, since the league took control of the Stanley Cup 80-some odd years ago, had 13 different"
Stars rookie Tomas Vincour gets chance with a top line
"Stars rookie Tomas Vincour was moved up to a top line with Jamie Benn and Steve Ott on Thursday. Vincour has 11 goals in 18 games in the AHL this season but just one in 20 games in the NHL. He had an assist Thursday. "He's scored in the minors, so it's an opportunity for him," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. "The message isn't score goals or you'll get moved, the message is play your tail off and see what we can do.""
Notes and quotes from 4-1 loss to Phoenix
"This one stings the Stars. _ Phoenix played on Monday in Glendale, beat Detroit, flew Monday night and then came into AAC and simply outworked Dallas. This gives the Coyotes three wins (San Jose, Detroit, Dallas) in four nights and pushes them ahead of the Stars in the standings. Phoenix is now 25-21-8 (58 points), while Dallas is 27-22-2 (56 points). Dallas can make up that difference with its two games in hand, but it also could have made a big statement and pushed the Coyotes down the ladder."
Brenden Morrow still dealing with pain in neck, back and shoulder, as well as trade talk
"I talked to Brenden Morrow before the Anaheim game, and he said he was still bothered by neck pain. He said he has received treatment that included traction and inversion therapy (hanging upside down), but he still has problem with pain in his upper back, neck and shoulder. He said it's frustrating. ``We've tried a lot of different things, and it's not getting the results I want,'' Morrow said. ``I'll eventually have to do something, but I can manage it right now.'' He's managing it with injections to reduce swelling, but after back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday, the Stars placed him on IR. He will miss the next three games and be eligible to play next against Buffalo on Feb. 10 if"
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan confirms Richard Bachman will get a share of starts going forward
"Back-up goalie Richard Bachman was in net Thursday, and Gulutzan said he would get his share of starts going forward. Dallas has four sets of back-to-back games in February, and No. 1 goalie Kari Lehtonen last season seemed to wear down while playing 33 of the last 34 games."
Stars are looking at changing power play, but nothing is permanent
"If you checked your stat sheet last night after the Stars' 6-2 win over Anaheim , you were probably surprised to see Sheldon Souray had no time on the power play. That's right, Studley Wonderbomb and the amazing Slapshot from Hades logged 19:14 in overall ice time, 1:46 on the penalty kill and 0:00 on the power play. So who took the 4:09 the Stars enjoyed with the man advantage? Trevor Daley had 2:06, Philip Larsen had 2:06, Alex Goligoski had 2:03 and Stephane Robidas had 2:03. ``We just decided to go with a left-handed, right-handed thing there,'' Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. ``We like Lars and what he can do, and we like the balance of a right-handed shot, and that's the thinking.''"
Stars vs. Sharks preview: Dallas has struggled (0-7-1) in second game of back-to-backs
"Key matchup: Logan Couture vs. Jamie Benn Both are coming off of their first appearances at the All-Star Game, and each was the only representative for his team. Key stat: 0-7-1 That's the Stars record on the second night of back-to-back games this season. Andrew Raycroft lost five of those games, but Dallas was crushed by Minnesota, 5-2, with Kari Lehtonen and Richard Bachman splitting time in net Jan. 21, which was the last time they faced this challenge."
Fun with distances _ Should Stars be in a division with Tegucigalpa?
"While riding on the plane to Anaheim, Stars analyst Daryl Reaugh brought up an interesting way of looking at this travel thing. We get so used to trips to California that it doesn't seem like a big deal anymore. But as a big map on the plane showed the path we were going to take, Reaugh pointed out that we might as well be flying to Mexico City. So, I checked some distances."
Daryl Reaugh says the time has come for 4-on-4 hockey
"They use it in overtime, and it helps solve a lot of the problems that are dogging the NHL these days. Is it time for the NHL to consider going with 4-on-4 hockey full-time instead of 5-on-5? Stars analyst and hockey philosopher Daryl Reaugh says yes."
Back to the real NHL games
"The days at the beach, as tweeted by Capitals defenceman Mike Green from the Cayman Islands, are over. The neon tans from Las Vegas will now start to fade. The NHL's feel-good weekend here — a resounding success which revolved around the emotional outpouring between Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson and Senators fans — now becomes a fond memory. Ahead is a 30-game sausage grinder that is the rest of the NHL season. "You need the break whether you're here or somewhere else doing something different. This is a part of the season the guys really look forward to, just to recharge the battery," said Maple Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul. "When you get back from this break, you're re-energized and you"
Quiet Jamie Benn raves about All-Star experience: 'It was something I'll never forget'
"It was a quiet debut for Stars center Jamie Benn in the NHL All-Star Game. While Benn was a member of Team Chara, which took a 12-9 win over Team Alfredsson on Sunday, he finished with no shots in 14:02 of ice time. Benn was on a line with Patrick Kane of Chicago and Jordan Eberle of Edmonton, and the line scored one goal but Benn was not involved. He finished minus-1 on the day, but said he had a great time. "It was a great experience," he said. "It was something I'll never forget.""
Chara's stars beat hometown hero Alfredsson
"On his big day, Daniel Alfredsson surrounded himself with Swedes. But it was a bunch of Slovak buddies, led by New York Rangers winger Marian Gaborik, who drove Team Chara to a 12-9 victory over Team Alfredsson in front of 20,510 in the 57th NHL all-star game Sunday at Scotiabank Place. While former Senators defenceman Zdeno Chara scored the third-period winner, it was Gaborik, voted the game MVP, who led his club to victory with a hat trick and four-point effort as Team Chara walked away with the bragging rights. "You could see the guys wanted to win," said Chara when asked if he gave his team any instructions with the score tied 6-6 going into the third period. "I didn't have to say a"
Stars' Benn shines in Accuracy Shootout
"But despite the competition, Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn and Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matt Read surprised the capacity crowd at ScotiaBank Place in the Accuracy Shootout Event at the Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills competition, with Benn winning the event. With previous accuracy winners Daniel Sedin and Marian Hossa also participating, along with the NHL's leading goal scorer, Steven Stamkos, Benn and Read set the pace early. Read eliminated fellow rookie Cody Hodgson when he hit all four targets in an impressive 14.011 seconds. From there, the only player capable of topping Read's opening-round time was Benn, who hit his targets in 13.583 seconds. Benn and Read went on to meet"
Jamie Benn goes next to last in All-Star Game draft
"Stars center Jamie Benn almost won a car on Thursday night in the All-Star Game Fantasy Draft in Ottawa. Benn is participating in his first All-Star Game and the NHL now drafts teams. As a consolation prize, the last player selected among the 38 players receives a car and $20,000 to donate to charity. Benn and San Jose's Logan Couture were the final two players standing, and they walked out onto the stage together for the final selection. Then, Team Chara captain Zdeno Chara said he wanted Benn on his team because Benn had battled back from an emergency appendectomy Jan. 15 to be able to get to the All-Star Game."
Who will win? Breaking down All-Star teams
"The draft is over, the rosters set for the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game. We now know who will be wearing the white jerseys for Team Alfredsson and the blue jerseys to represent Team Chara. Now it's time to take a look at the rosters and break them down by position. Look for our prediction at the end. FORWARDS Datsyuk and Malkin on the same team is a scary proposition for the opposition. They may be the two most skilled players in the NHL right now. As Chara said, you can put them on the same line and they can be unstoppable, or you can put them on separate lines and they'll still be dominant and "make the line." Team Alfredsson has a lot of talent, but it doesn't have two"
Could Stars consider shopping Brenden Morrow at the trade deadline?
"Brenden Morrow is the only member of the Stars to know Joe Nieuwendyk as more than just a GM. Morrow and Nieuwendyk were Stars teammates for the better part of three years -- from 1999 to 2002 -- which goes to show just how long Morrow's been with the club. But at 33, Morrow is on the downslope of his career, which means that Nieuwendyk could face some tough questions about Morrow's future with the team should the Stars fall further back in the playoff race."
Gulutzan hopes Stars don't lose focus over break
"Stars players did not practice Wednesday and are not required to return to practice until 2 p.m. Monday in Frisco. Gulutzan said he hopes the players get away and rest, but also that they come ready for an intense practice Monday. Dallas returns with back-to-back games Feb. 1 and 2 and will play 16 games in 29 days in February. "I haven't dared ask them all of their plans. I'm sure they're going where it's warm so they can just lay around," Gulutzan said. "I told them take the four days and don't think about the game. But come Sunday, let's make sure Monday's not a complete, 'Oh, I've got to practice' kind of day. Start thinking about it Sunday and make sure you're prepared to be at your"
Goligoski helps Stars end to Ducks' streak
"Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves for his 18th career shutout, defenseman Alex Goligoski scored in the first period, and the Dallas Stars ended Anaheim's five-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory over the Ducks on Tuesday night. The Stars had been 0-4-1 with six goals in their previous five games, damaging their playoff chances. Anaheim got off to a fast start with a 9-2 edge in shots before Goligoski notched the game's only goal and his sixth of the season."
Appendectomy won't keep Stars' Jamie Benn from playing in All-Star game
"Benn had an appendectomy on Jan. 15. And while he was hoping to possibly play Tuesday against Anaheim, he wasn't quite recovered. However, Benn participated with his teammates at the morning skate Tuesday and will travel to Ottawa to play in the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday. "It will be a good experience for me and it will be fun, so I am looking forward to it," Benn said."
Stars' Alex Goligoski: I'm excited to be a part of Stars' future
"Alex Goligoski said Monday that the biggest thrill he received from signing a four-year contract extension for $18.4 million ($4.6 million a season) was the fact that the Stars see him as an important part of the leadership group going forward. "That's a role I've always kind of wanted and liked," said Goligoski, 26, who was acquired from Pittsburgh in a trade last February for James Neal and Matt Niskanen. "I definitely think right now I'm at a point where that's a role I can take on, and I look forward to evolving that part of my game.""
Jamie Benn is expected to play in All-Star Game, probably won't get contract extension before end of season
"Jamie Benn is the Stars' leading scorer and quite possibly the player this team builds around going forward, but Stars GM Joe Nieuwenedyk said that a contract extension for Benn will probably have to wait until the summer, and maybe even until there is a new collective bargaining agreement. "We've had discussions, but there won't be any more discussion, I don't thnk,'' Nieuwendyk said, ``His is a different situation because he's still entry level and doesn't have rights that maybe Alex has. We'll have further discussions with him at the end of the season.""

We'll have further discussions with him at the end of the season." The big difference between Goligoski and Benn is Goligoski is 26 and could have become an unrestricted at 27 under the current CBA."
Revenge not on Nystrom's mind against former club
"Eric Nystrom said he's not one to think much about revenge. The 28-year-old forward had every reason to be pumped when he walked into Xcel Energy Center on Saturday. He was buried by the Minnesota Wild in training camp this season and eventually was given away to the Stars for future considerations that basically amount to nothing. So there has to be some human tendency to hold up the 13 goals he has scored for Dallas in 41 games and give a smug smile, right? "It's business, and it's in the past," Nystrom said. "I know people here, and I definitely want to have a good game. I kind of look at it as I always play at 100 percent, and I can't play any harder than that, so I'm going to play"
Philip Larsen makes first start in 2012
"Stars defenseman Philip Larsen missed nine games with a concussion, but returned to the lineup Saturday. Larsen, 22, has played 19 games and is plus-7 on the season. ``He's been great and he gives us a good skill set and a right-handed shot, and both of those are good things,'' coach Glen Gulutzan said. ``We definitely like his game, and he's in the mix for us. We need to score goals right now, and his game is the type that could help us score goals.''"
Wild credit Darroll Powe, Steve Ott for changing game
"Down 2-1 to the Stars in the second period, the Minnesota Wild needed some jump, so when Darroll Powe decided to fight Steve Ott , it seemed to energize a packed Xcel Energy Center and give the Wild the push it needed to forge a 5-2 win and end an 0-3-1 winless streak. "Emotionally, he gave our bench a huge lift tonight," Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said. "The guys were pumped about what he was willing to do for them." While Powe added that the Wild felt Ott had been bullying his team. "I don't think guys were too happy about that," Powe said of some scrums Ott had been in. "That's the kind of player he is, he likes to stir it up and get his nose in there.""
Spurned by Wild, Nystrom is on the rise with Stars
"Back in October, Eric Nystrom headed to Dallas. But, really, he was headed on a mission. That is his word: mission. "To prove I can not only just play but score goals in this league," Nystrom explained. "Be a force in games." Nystrom is a hard-working winger who broke into the NHL with Calgary. Before last season, coming off a 19-point year with the Flames, he signed a three-year, $4.2 million deal with the Wild, then had his worst season -- only four goals and a minus-16 in 82 games. So Nystrom came to camp last fall looking to rebound, getting a new opportunity with a new Wild coach. But, two days before the opener, after skating with the fourth line throughout camp, Nystrom was waived."
Philip Larsen a healthy scratch against Lightning
"After missing eight games with a concussion, Philip Larsen was activated from IR. However, he was a healthy scratch Friday, as the Stars now have eight healthy defensemen. "With eight, it's just competition and whoever is playing is going to get a chance so guys gotta be sharp, because we'll move pieces," Gulutzan said. The coach could insert Larsen into the lineup Saturday at Minnesota to get fresh legs in the lineup. Larsen said he feels good and is ready to play."
'Lucky' Jiri Hudler gives Wings road win in shootout
"Luck was trailing Jiri Hudler all night Tuesday and he was gladly accepting it. Hudler scored a fluky goal in the second period, then scored the lone goal in the shootout, again with a little luck, as the Red Wings defeated the Dallas Stars, 3-2. In the shootout, Hudler scored a goal similar to Henrik Zetterberg's shootout winner last week against Phoenix, a Peter Forsberg-type wraparound goal against Stars goalie Richard Bachman. But Hudler had a little bobble approaching Bachman, regained control of the puck, luckily, and was able to complete the move. "The puck stopped and he (Bachman) didn't expect it and I didn't expect it," Hudler said. "I was lucky.""
Glen Gulutzan: Jamie Benn looking good for All-Star Game
"Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said after the Stars' 3-2 shootout loss to Detroit that Jamie Benn is making solid progress after Sunday's appendectomy and that his chances of playing in bthe NHL All-Star Game Jan. 29 in Ottawa are looking good. Gulutzan said Benn might even have a chance to play next Tuesday against Anaheim. ``Bennie, seven days from his surgery, for sure 100 percent, he is not playing,'' Gulutzan said. ``So I don't know if you can rule out Bennie for Tuesday against Anaheim, but for sure before that we won't see him.''"
Stars' captain Morrow ends his 12-game scoring drought
"Brenden Morrow turned 33 Monday, but even old dogs can learn new tricks. Morrow has been battling scoring problems this season, and that has manifested itself in some frustrated penalties and mistakes. After he extended a shift 1:34 during a battle with Anaheim's Teemu Selanne a few games back, he vowed to be better. "It was a mistake on my part," Morrow said of a shift that helped lead to the game-winning goal. "We can't afford to play frustrated right now. We have to be on top of our game.""
Final: Blues 1, Stars 0
"The Blues edged the Stars 1-0 tonight and are now tied for the most points in the NHL standings. The Blues (27-12-6) is tied with the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks for the top spot with 60 points, but is listed as No. 2 in the overall in the standings behind the Rangers, who have played two fewer games. Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves for his third shutout of the season and his second in his past three games, and T.J. Oshie scored the only goal of the game with 8:34 left in regulation."
Blues goaltender Halak blanks Stars
"Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves for his third shutout of the season and T.J. Oshie scored midway through the third period as the surging St. Louis Blues stayed unbeaten in 2012 by defeating the Dallas Stars 1-0 on Monday night. The Blues have earned 13 out of a possible 14 points this month (6-0-1) and are tied with the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks atop the NHL standings with 60 points. St. Louis improved to 19-3-3 at the Scottrade Center and set a single-season club record by earning at least a point at home for the 13th straight game. Halak, who has 19 career shutouts, has been a big part of that streak, going 9-0-3 in his last 12 starts."
Jamie Benn released from hospital, All-Star game still a possibility
"Just talked to Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk in the pressbox here, and he said that Jamie Benn was released from the hospital today after a Sunday appendectomy, and that everything went as well as possible. Nieuwendyk said he was told the operation was very clean, so the Stars are hoping for the best. When asked if there's a chance Benn might play in the All-Star Game Jan. 29 in Ottawa , Nieuwendyk said: ``Yeah, I think that's definitely a possibility. I talked to (Brendan Shanahan) and I think the NHL will allow us a little more time to see. But, yeah, I think today was definitely encouraging in that regard.''"
Stars' Adam Burish hopes to make most of increased role at center
"Adam Burish knows the whims of the NHL as well as anyone. He was a part-time grinder on the Chicago Blackhawks' 2010 Stanley Cup champions, moved into a top-six role with the Stars for portions of last season and spent the last 10 games this season averaging less than 10 minutes a game on the fourth line. So when Jamie Benn (appendectomy) and Mike Ribeiro (knee) were sidelined, opening up a spot at center, Burish said he was happy to take advantage. "It's a funny game, and you just have to ready when opportunities open up," said the 29-year-old forward. "I've seen it every way, and you just have to be ready. Last year, I got an opportunity, then I got hurt. This year, I got hurt, and now"
Dallas Stars Benn, Ribeiro likely out until after All-Star Weekend
"Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn, the team's scoring leader with 42 points, underwent an appendectomy on Sunday afternoon, the Stars reported on their website. Benn will be out approximately 10 days to two weeks. He was resting comfortably and is expected to make a full recovery. Benn, 22, was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game for the first time, which will be in Ottawa on Jan. 29. His participation in All-Star Weekend appears doubtful, though a final determination has not been made."
Morrow gives Avs' Landeskog his due after hit
"During an intense final minute of regulation Saturday, Avalanche rookie Gabriel Landeskog? and Dallas captain Brenden Morrow? got into a major scrum. Morrow relentlessly went after the 19-year-old, forcing 6-foot-5, 235-pound Colorado defenseman Ryan O'Byrne to get involved. After O'Byrne and Morrow finished the game in the penalty boxes, Landeskog and Morrow talked about their mutual respect. "Maybe he wasn't too happy about that," Landeskog said of his big, blue-line check on Morrow in the second period. "It's part of the game, and it's the game I play. I want to play physical, and I'm not going to shy just because it's a very good player I'm hitting. It just makes it that much more fun."
Stars' special teams haven't been special
"The Stars increased their special-teams deficit during a 2-1 loss to Colorado on Saturday at American Airlines Center. The Stars allowed a power-play goal and failed to score on three chances with the extra man. For the season, the Stars have allowed 33 power-play goals and scored only 20 for a special-teams score of minus-13. Entering Saturday night's play, only Tampa Bay, at minus-15, was worse. Vancouver led at plus-19, with 42 goals scored and 23 allowed."
Stars acquire former top prospect Angelo Esposito, assign him to AHL
"The Star made a no-risk, high-potential deal in the acquisition of center Angelo Esposito from the Florida organization Friday. Esposito, a heralded player at the juniors level, was taken by Pittsburgh with the 20th overall pick in the 2007 draft. He has since struggled with knee injuries and the burden of being a first-round choice. The Stars are his fifth organization. "When you're young and dealing with the expectations, it can be tough," Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "When he was in the juniors, he did a lot of things that we liked. We'll get him on a good developmental program and see where it goes.""
Ribeiro out for Saturday; Kari Lehtonen likely to get start in goal
"Word out of Frisco this afternoon is that Mike Ribeiro still is not ready to test his sore knee and will miss his third game in a row. ``Ribs is still sore,'' Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. ``He'll be another few more days. You can expect him before somebody else, that's the way Ribby is, but he's had a significant injury, so he'll be a few more days.'' Gulutzan said that he was waiting on Kari Lehtonen to give him the thumb's up on a sore tailbone, but that he expected him to be ready to start Saturday against Colorado. ``If he's fine and healthy, he'll most likely get the start.'' Because the Stars landed at 5 a.m. after traveling back from Los Angeles, the players only had to show up"
Reaugh: Stars more capable of handling challenges than last season
"Daryl "Razor" Reaugh, Stars color analyst for radio and TV, spoke with The Dunham and Miller Show on KTCK-AM 1310 The Ticket on Friday. When asked about how the West standings seem to change from night to night, Reaugh explained how this season's Stars are capable of handling the challenges of remaining in the hunt in the West. "Just like last year you're going to have teams that are good teams that have winning records that aren't going to make the playoffs," Reaugh said. "The difference this year with Dallas seems to be that they've absorbed some injuries already. I think they've had about three times as many injuries in the first half as they did last year when they were really healthy"
Stars swing minor league trade for once-highly-sought prospect Angelo Esposito
"Angelo Esposito was taken 20th overall in the 2007 entry draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins and has struggled since then to live up that billing. The Stars believe he still has a chance to make something of himself. Dallas on Friday traded Ondrej Roman to Florida for Esposito in a swap of minor leaguers who just haven't panned out. Both turn 23 in February and both have struggled to find the right fit. Roman has 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points in 24 games with the Texas Stars this season. Esposito has 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 16 games with San Antonio. This is basically giving two kids a fresh start. We'll see how it works. Esposito will report immediately to the Texas Stars."
``If he's fine and healthy, he'll most likely get the start.''"
Stars hope Morrow's hit on Kopitar doesn't draw supplementary discipline
"Brenden Morrow has learned not to jump to any conclusions when it comes to supplementary discipline and the NHL. The Stars captain put a big hit on Anze Kopitar in the third period of a 5-4 Stars win that caused Kopitar to leave the game and not return. However, on replay, it appeared that Morrow made a shoulder to shoulder hit that spun Kopitar in a helicopter fashion and back into the boards. Morrow was not penalized on the play, but NHL director of player safety Brendan Shanahan has many options in possibly ruling against the hit. He could call for a hit to the head, he could say it was boarding, he could say it was charging. The Stars feel it was none of the above."
Kings fail to take advantage of the Stars
"The Kings lost a game Thursday but dodged a far more dire fate. Center Anze Kopitar, helped off the ice at 12:12 of the third period of what became a 5-4 shootout loss to the Dallas Stars at Staples Center, had a bloody nose and sore neck and shoulder and will be monitored Friday. However, General Manager Dean Lombardi said Kopitar's injuries were not as serious as they initially appeared. "He should be fine," Coach Darryl Sutter said, a bloody nose and sore neck being all in a day's work for him in his playing and farming days."
