Titans quarterback Vince Young won't be suspended by the NFL for his involvement in a Dallas strip club altercation last month, according to sources familiar with the situation. The league is expected to make an announcement this week, possibly as soon as today. Titans officials could not be reached for comment on Wednesday. NFL Senior Vice President of Public Relations Greg Aiello declined to comment. Young was cited for a misdemeanor assault following the June 13 incident at Club Onyx. The next day, the quarterback apologized and told reporters he hoped NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would not suspend him. "I pray to God that Roger Goodell doesn't come down hard on me," Young said,

Titans reach contract terms with rookie safety Johnson

The Tennessee Titans returned to more traditional business matters on Tuesday, one day after they filed a lawsuit against USC and its football coach Lane Kiffin. Five days before the start of training camp the Titans agreed to contract terms with safety Robert Johnson, a fifth-round draft pick out of the University of Utah and the second of three defensive backs taken by the team in the April draft. The deal brought to seven the number of 2010 draft picks under contract. Only first-round choice Derrick Morgan and wide receiver Damian Williams, the first of two third-round selections, have not yet come to terms.

Titans fans were holding their breath, wondering if Chris Johnson was going to hold out this season. A collective sigh of relief was released Monday. The Titans and the All-Pro running back have agreed to terms on a new deal for 2010, according to a source close to the negotiations. Johnson will now participate in the Titans' training camp, which begins on July 31, to prepare for the upcoming season. Neither Johnson's agent, Joel Segal, nor Titans officials could be reached for comment. As The Tennessean reported two weeks ago, Johnson and the Titans were in discussions to move up some money he earned as escalators to the 2010 season that would pay him more than the $550,000 base salary he

Titans running back Chris Johnson went a respectable one-for-two at the ESPYs on Wednesday. He captured the award for the Best Breakthrough Athlete, but lost out to New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees in the Best NFL Player award. More importantly, as far as Titans fans are concerned, Johnson offered up contract talk during a couple different interview sessions. He didn't necessarily say anything earth-shattering, but he did give an indication of where things stand just over two weeks before training camp starts. When ESPN reporter Erin Andrews asked Johnson how contract negotiations were going, Johnson offered this reply: ``The contract negotiation, it's at a standstill right now. I'm just

The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with linebacker Rennie Curran and free agent tight end Sean Ryan, the team announced Wednesday. Curran was a third-round selection out of the University of Georgia. A bit small for his position (5-foot-11, 235 pounds) he started 30 games in three seasons with the Bulldogs and finished his career 16th in all-time tackles at UGA with 298. He had 115 stops in 2008 and 130 last fall, which made him the first Georgia player since 1996-97 with 100 or more in back-to-back seasons. Chris Johnson said contract talks with the Titans are at a standstill after receiving the ESPY for Best Breakthrough Athlete on Wednesday. He says he wasn't sure about reports the Titans were talking with his agent about converting incentives into a $2.5 million bonus to get him more money this year. "I'm letting my agent and the team handle that. Right now we're at a standstill, and hopefully when camp starts we'll have an outcome," Johnson said.

The Titans have agreed to terms with their sixth of nine 2010 draft picks and have added a veteran tight end as well. Curran wrote on his Twitter account shortly after the deal was announced. "Glad I got the big step out the way. Lookin forward to rockin that white and blue!" The Titans and the agent for running back Chris Johnson are discussing a compromise that could get the All-Pro in training camp sooner than most expect. He wants a long-term deal that would pay him at least $30 million in guarantees. While the Titans still aren't willing to do that, a short-term solution could give Johnson a smaller bump in pay following a season when he led the NFL with 2,006 rushing yards, and was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year. Bo Scaife decided he'd rather field passes than phone calls from quarterback Vince Young. Dissatisfied with his contract situation, the sixth-year tight end skipped most of the Tennessee Titans' offseason workout program and organized team activities until late May. "It was just something I felt inside; I was ready to come back," Scaife said. "I missed four or five OTAs, and I got tired of VY calling me and telling me about practice. I just wanted to come back and get a little taste." Even if that meant he had to swallow a little pride. Scaife was not the Titans' only or highest-profile absence this spring. Running back Chris Johnson and linebacker Stephen Tulloch both took similar stands.

Johnson, who wants a new contract, didn't take part in any of the team's 14 organized workouts this offseason. Instead, he decided to work out the majority of the time with a personal trainer in Orlando, Fla. For the better part of a decade, Keith Bulluck had something to say. Reporters couldn't wait to write it down. Television cameras rushed to roll on it. Fans hung on almost every word. Whether it had to do with the most specific moment of a game, a big-picture trend in the National Football League or the sports world in general, Bulluck had thoughts on the subject and was willing to share. Johnson, who rushed for 2,006 yards last season and set an NFL record for yards from scrimmage, wants a contract extension, and wants it now, and he isn't interested in listening to any excuses why the team can't give him one. If that means being a Grade-A offseason distraction, so be it. Meanwhile, over at One Nova-Care Way, wide receiver DeSean Jackson is in pretty much the same boat as Johnson. It's just business. Everyone involved understands that. For the Tennessee Titans, Chris Johnson's desire for a new contract and his attempt to drive negotiations by staying away from offseason workouts is hardly business as usual. In the 14 years since the franchise relocated from Houston, there have been the occasional lengthy negotiations, which have caused top draft picks to miss the start of training camp (see Haynesworth, Albert or Jones, Pacman). "I look on the rosters and I know there are teams that are hurt and struggling on the offensive line and yet I still haven't got a call," Mawae told a radio station in Nashville. "Part of me wants to say, 'Yeah, I think my position with the union is a problem for a lot of management people.' But at the end of the day I would hope they'd be able to overlook that for making the team better." ... The NFL Network reported that with LT Ryan Clady's availability in

Running back Chris Johnson, tight end Bo Scaife and linebacker Stephen Tulloch were absent again as the Titans held their second practice of the offseason today at Baptist Sports Park. The trio also missed Tuesday's session, which kicked off a batch of on-field work to be sprinkled over the next two months. Today's practice was open to the media.

With four QB's in system, Titants likely to cut Kerry Collins or Chris Simms

On Tuesday, the buzz was about who didn't show up for the first Titans practice of the year. But one player who hadn't been around during the offseason program showed up: veteran quarterback Kerry Collins. Collins is scheduled to make $5.5 million in base salary in 2010. Make no mistake, the coaching staff still has complete faith in him and wants him around. While his salary seems high for a backup, keep in mind this is a year without a salary cap. So the Titans don't have to ask him to take a pay cut. (Personally, I have a feeling if the Titans do ask him to take a pay cut, Collins would tell them to take a hike. Or he'd take one himself.)

Kevin Mawae is still out of work and the president of the NFL Players Association revisited the idea Wednesday that it's more than his age holding him back. "I am unemployed and hoping someone will call," Mawae, 39, told "3 Hour Lunch" on 104.5 in Nashville. "It's kind of befuddling to me that I just came off my eighth Pro Bowl and a 16-game season and I can't get one phone call. "Alan Faneca gets cut two days ago and yesterday he signs a contract with another team. And not to take anything away from him, we have the same agent, we're friends. But something tells me that there is something going on beside me just being 39 years old. "I've said in the past that I hope our management and the

Tennessee Titans start without Chris Johnson

The Titans held their first practice for the 2010 season on Tuesday, and their best player was a no-show. Running back Chris Johnson, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, was absent as the Titans began organized workouts at Baptist Sports Park, according to sources familiar with the situation. Why Johnson was a no-show is no secret — he wants a new contract. In January he told The Tennessean he'd like to be the league's highest paid offensive player. What's unknown is how long he's willing to stay away. There are indications Johnson will also skip the second practice later this week. The Titans have another wave of practices, officially known as "organized team activities," in

Keith Bulluck remains a possibility for Lions

The way Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz keeps talking about Keith Bulluck's knee surgery, you'd certainly get the impression the Lions aren't interested in signing him as a free agent. But I'm a little suspicious. The reason: Every time I've asked Schwartz about Bulluck, a former Tennessee Titans' outside linebacker, the coach has talked about the knee injury and nothing else. In the half-dozen times I've asked Schwartz about it, he never has said, "No, we're not interested'' or "That's unlikely'' or "He doesn't really fit our plans.'' All he ever has talked about is the knee injury and never in any concrete terms. He just says, "He's got a knee'' or "He's got an ACL.'' The Lions have

It's the end of the road for John Henderson in Jacksonville. According to a report, the Jaguars will release the defensive tackle on Monday. His agent would love to see him land back on his feet in his hometown of Nashville, with the Titans. Henderson played at Pearl-Cohn High and the University of Tennessee. "One of his top priorities would be to come back home, that would always be a perfect fit,'' agent Tim McGee said. "Put it this way: Either way we'll talk, there's no question about that. We'll see what kind of interest the Titans have and I am pretty sure they'll feel us out to and we'll go from there.''

Fisher says 'door is closed' on Haynesworth trade ... or did he?

Jeff Fisher chose his words carefully. Fearful that he might create the perception of tampering he offered a vague response but attempted to make clear that any possibility that the Tennessee Titans might trade for defensive end Albert Haynesworth is gone. That's if there ever was a possibility. Not that he was saying there was or there wasn't. Or that he ever mentioned Haynesworth, a former Titan, by name. It's just that the Titans' decision to draft defensive end Derrick Morgan in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday and the fact that defensive tackle Tony Brown signed a new three-year contract nullified any possible pursuit of Haynesworth. "The door was never open," Fisher said.

Titans stay non-committal on possible deal for Albert Haynesworth

Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt wouldn't say Albert Haynesworth's name or even discuss the possibility of trading for the disgruntled Redskins defensive tackle. But during his pre-draft press conference Tuesday, Reinfeldt also did nothing to dismiss the idea, adding more fuel to the speculation by saying there's a chance the Titans could acquire a player by trade in the near future. The NFL Draft begins Thursday and continues Friday and Saturday. The Titans are interested in Haynesworth, and there are indications they have talked to the Redskins about the former All-Pro, who was a Titan from 2002-08. No matter how much noise Titans running back Chris Johnson might choose to make about wanting a new long-term contract, it doesn't sound like he'll get one - at least not this offseason. Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt conceded that new rules tied to the NFL's labor dispute make giving the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year a big new deal nearly impossible. The same goes for any young player who's outperformed his rookie deal. Only two years into the five-year contract Johnson signed as a rookie, however, the Titans might have still been hesitant to extend it even if such guidelines weren't in place. The "30 percent rule" limits the growth of base salaries of renegotiated

If defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth plays anywhere else next season, many league observers expect that place to be back in Tennessee. Titans Coach Jeff Fisher, though, did his best to splash water on such speculation in an interview with the Tennessean. "There has been some speculation that I've had conversations with Mike Shanahan, which is false,'' Fisher told the Tennessean's Jim Wyatt. "I have not had behind-the-scenes meetings with our people. There have been no discussions. He is under contract with the Redskins, and we are dwelling on the draft right now." Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth will not attend this weekend's voluntary minicamp, a league source said Wednesday. Haynesworth, who remains hopeful of a trade after just one season in Washington, will only attend mandatory offseason activities. League sources remain convinced that the Redskins will try to move Haynesworth -- who's balking at playing nose tackle in the team's new 3-4 scheme -- before next week's draft despite picking up a $21 million bonus at the start of the month. New Redskins coach Mike Shanahan would like to reshape the locker room and eradicate potential issues and distractions. The Tennessee Titans, Haynesworth's former team, and the Detroit
