Titans Trade Rumors

Titans turn reins over to Vince Young
"Kerry Collins has a hunch about why it happened. He doesn't like it, but that doesn't matter. Vince Young doesn't care about the reason. He's just happy he has his old job back, and a second chance. The Titans pulled a U-turn at quarterback on Thursday — Collins is out and Young is in beginning with Sunday's game against the Jaguars at LP Field. Coach Jeff Fisher said the move is long-term. As the Titans try and make something out of a 0-6 start, Young will be at the controls, fulfilling the wish — and ultimately the command — of owner Bud Adams. So Young, the third overall pick of the 2006 draft, will once again be on full display come Sunday. "I'm still in Kerry Collins' corner because I ..."
Fisher to reveal Titans' QB plans on Thursday
"Justin Gage is like the rest of the Titans right now. The receiver knows there could be a change at quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. “I shouldn’t say I sense it, but I think it is in the air right now,’’ Gage said Wednesday. “I am not sure how it is going to play out or what is going to go on. But … we have to be prepared for either quarterback.’’ So will it be Kerry Collins or Vince Young? Coach Jeff Fisher said he plans to announce the starter on Thursday. The coach declined to go into specifics about how reps were divided in Wednesday’s practice, and for the first time this season Collins and Young were off limits to reporters. So was offensive coordinator Mike ..."
If Collins isn't starting, it's news to him
"If a change from Kerry Collins to Vince Young at quarterback is coming this week for the Tennessee Titans, then it's a message the incumbent starter has not received. Players were due back at Baptist Sports Park on Tuesday to begin preparation for Sunday's game with the Jacksonville Jaguars at LP Field. Reports and speculation have cited owner Bud Adams as pushing for a switch from Collins to Young as soon as this week as the 0-6 Titans return from a bye week. "I haven't gotten any indication from him of a change," Collins said last week when asked if there had been any inklings of a potential quarterback change from Coach Jeff Fisher. Practices were closed to the media last week, but with ..."
Titans' Cortland Finnegan and Vincent Fuller use bye week to recover
"If the Titans are fortunate, their defense will welcome two key players back to practice this week. Starting cornerback Cortland Finnegan (hamstring) and nickelback Vincent Fuller (broken forearm) stayed in town over the bye week to receive treatment for their injuries, but Coach Jeff Fisher would only say both players are progressing. Finnegan and Fuller last played Sept. 27 against the Jets. "They would bring the experience back, the anticipation, the experience and the communication things," Fisher said. "I think the safeties would be a little more settled, if you will, to have guys they've been playing alongside with for several years back on the field." Not expected back in time for ..."
Wife of former GM blasts Titans on local radio
"The wife of former Tennessee Titans General Manager Floyd Reese blasted Titans coach Jeff Fisher and the organization in comments made on WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone Thursday on the SportsZone with George Plaster. Sally Reese intimated that her husband was essentially fired with no notice after 21 years with the organization, and was not given the opportunity to clean out his office and that his resignation was written not by her husband but by team Senior Executive Vice President Steve Underwood. Floyd Reese, who left the Titans organization in January 2007 after having a role with the team since 1986, had stayed quiet regarding his exit, but his wife Sally was in town and called to air her ..."
Titans, Vanden Bosch plan to hold contract talks
"The Titans are scheduled to have contract talks with two-time Pro Bowl DE Kyle Vanden Bosch this weekend, according to a league source. The team, which has a bye this week, has held an ongoing dialogue with Vanden Bosch, an elite pass rusher who's eligible for unrestricted free agency after this season. The Titans are off to an 0-6 start, but they have yet to indicate that they are in rebuilding mode, and they weren't sellers at Tuesday's trade deadline. However, they have previously allowed talented defensive linemen to leave in free agency — Albert Haynesworth most recently — and used the draft and expert defensive line coach Jim Washburn to cultivate reinforcements."
Are wholesale changes at hand for Titans?
"In the wake of a 59-0 loss to the New England Patriots Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, the Tennessee Titans enter their bye week with major issues and questions in every facet of their organizational structure. So many questions in fact that Coach Jeff Fisher declined to address any specific changes in his postgame press conference, especially regarding a change at the quarterback position. "I'm not going to address the quarterback situation this evening," Fisher offered without being prompted. Asked if other roster changes were possible, he said, "I'm not go into changes now. We're going to look at everything real hard. We've got to get back to doing something well in all three ..."
Ex-Titans stick with Kerry Collins for now
"Ten years ago, the quarterback controversy involved Steve McNair and Neil O'Donnell. These days, it's about whether starter Kerry Collins should be replaced by Vince Young in the wake of a 0-4 start. Everyone has an opinion. This week several former Titans weighed in, and most agreed now's not the time to bench Collins. But it might be coming soon, they said, and some think adding a package for Young is a good idea. "You are going to have to look at Vince at some point,'' former Titans running back Eddie George said. "If Kerry is struggling and can't get the offense going, you have to generate something. I don't think now is the time to make a starting change, but you have to implement ..."
Injury could force Craig Hentrich to retire
"Titans punter Craig Hentrich isn't sure what his future holds, but he has a hunch. The 16th-year pro knows there's a good chance he has punted in his last NFL game, but he's not ready to answer the retirement question definitively. "I have been saying I'm going to be done for the last four or five years, so I am definitely not going to say that. But I understand that this possibly could be it, especially with the injuries I've had this year,'' Hentrich said Thursday. "Who knows? I am not going to say yes or no yet, but it's not looking very good at this point.'' Hentrich suffered a calf injury - on his 1,150th career punt - during the Sept. 20 loss to the Texans. He said it felt like ..."
Jaguars vs. Titans game will be blacked out
"The Jaguars make it official Thursday that they will not ask for an extension and their game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday will be blacked out on local TV. The Jaguars said they expect to sell slightly more than the 46,250 tickets they sold for the home opener against Arizona, but they're still thousands short of a sellout. If all the non-premium tickets aren't sold 72 hours before kickoff, the games are blacked out. Teams can ask for an extension if they have a reasonable chance of selling the rest of the tickets. Owner Wayne Weaver said at the start of the season that the Jaguars would be blacking out all of their home games this year because of low ticket sales."
Desperate Titans danger for Jets
"Last year when the two teams met in late November, the Jets handed the Titans their first loss of the season — with a 34-13 beat down. This week Tennessee will be looking to avoid its' third loss of the season and we haven't even reached October yet. Such is life in the NFL where eight months of anticipation and build up can be destroyed by the third game of the season. If the Titans don't leave Giants Stadium with a win on Sunday they would drop to 0-3 and become a statistical longshot to make the playoffs — 1.8-percent of the teams to start the year 0-3 have qualified for the postseason. It may not be a must-win in the true sense, but the Titans better treat it like one. "We can't let ..."
Titans' Cook could make debut vs. Texans
"Jared Cook's play was one of the more exciting elements for the Tennessee Titans preseason as the rookie tight end led the club with 17 receptions. But as Cook appears to be readying for his NFL debut this week, the third-round pick from South Carolina is taking a relaxed and calm approach. "I've just got to be ready regardless. I can't get caught up in the hype and the surroundings and stuff. You've just got to focus and go play," Cook said. Cook practiced or a second consecutive day on Friday and will officially be listed as questionable for Sunday's home opener against the Houston Texans. Since spraining his ankle on Aug. 29, Cook had been a spectator and missed last week's opener in ..."
Ex-Jaguar receiver Jones to visit Titans
"The Tennessee Titans will work out former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones on Thursday, sources familiar with the situation confirmed. The 26-year-old Jones was scheduled to arrive in Nashville Wednesday evening, according to a source. Jones led the Jaguars with 65 receptions last year for 761 yards and two touchdowns, but was also suspended over an incident in which he was charged with felony possession of cocaine that was found in his vehicle before the 2008 offseason. The former first-rounder from the University of Arkansas in 2005 returned and started for the Jags last year, but was released this off-season after a second incident in which he violated terms of his ..."
Again, get Harrison out of your mind
"Yes, the Titans suddenly have concerns at the receiver position following Monday's hamstring injury to Nate Washington. But no, they're still not calling former Colts receiver Marvin Harrison. The Titans aren't interested, despite the attempts by some folks in the media to keep the idea alive. Coach Jeff Fisher has said on numerous occasions the team hasn't called – and isn't interested – in Harrison. While there's always the possibility someone else in the organization at some point took a call about the free agent without Fisher knowing, from what I've been told I don't even believe that's the case."
Titans coach denies team has any interest in acquiring former Colts receiver Harrison
"Coach Jeff Fisher says the Tennessee Titans are not pursuing veteran wide receiver Marvin Harrison. Fisher said Wednesday the team has had no contact with the free agent or his agent. The Titans had been mentioned specifically in an ESPN report as a team interested in the former outstanding Colts receiver. Fisher said he did not know where the reporter got that information but there was no possibility of Harrison joining the Titans. Harrison finished his Colts career with 1,102 receptions, second on the NFL's career list. The Colts released him after last season to free up $6 million under the salary cap."
Young's agent: QB might be willing to reduce 2010 cap hit
"It has been well documented that the day of reckoning on Vince Young's future with the Tennessee Titans is scheduled for 2010. That's when Young's salary cap number jumps to more than $14 million, thanks in large part to a $7.5 million base salary in the fifth year of his original six-year contract. Young also has a base salary of $8.5 million scheduled for 2011. But Young's agent, Major Adams, told The City Paper that he and Young might be willing to lower that cap number in an effort to remain on the team, if something agreeable can be worked out. "We haven't had any communication yet. Vince is just concentrating on the season. I think that depends on after this year," Adams said. "We're ..."
McNair's shooting hits Vince Young hard
"As a youngster, Titans quarterback Vince Young grew up idolizing Steve McNair. He attended his football camps, and looked to him as a mentor. He even called him "Pops.'' Like so many others, however, Young is now having a hard time dealing with news of the death of the former Titans quarterback. McNair was found dead Saturday from multiple gunshot wounds in a condominium on Second Avenue. Police on Sunday ruled the death a homicide. Young was out of the country when he got word of McNair's death. On Sunday, he issued a statement through the team. "I'm still in shock,'' Young said. "I spent all afternoon and night thinking about my life on and off the field with 'Pops.' Since I was a ..."
Titans, WR Edison agree to terms
"The Titans have agreed to terms with receiver Dominique Edison on a rookie contract. Edison, a sixth round pick in April's NFL Draft, becomes the fourth member of the team's 2009 draft class to reach a deal. Earlier this week the Titans agreed to terms with guard Ryan Durand (7th round) and cornerback Jason McCourty (6th). Safety Nick Schommer (7th round) reached a deal with the team last week."
Titans agree to terms with two more draft picks
"The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with two more 2009 draft picks on Tuesday, signing sixth-round cornerback Jason McCourty and seventh-round guard Ryan Durand. Both players agreed to four-year contracts, as did safety Nick Schommer, who agreed to his deal last week. McCourty, a sixth round selection (203rd overall) from Rutgers, was a three-year starter and a senior captain. Durand also was a three-year starter for Syracuse and started 35 games at right guard."
Titans waive three players
"The Tennessee Titans have waived three players from their active roster, letting go of defensive linemen Ulrich Winkler and Charles Bennett and waiving injured guard Pete Clifford. Winkler, who hails from Germany and came to the Titans via the now-defunct NFL Europe, spent the year on injured reserve after injuring his knee in training camp last year. Winkler had spent the previous season on the practice squad as a European exemption. Bennett spent time last season on the practice squad."
Vince Young addresses trade comments
"Titans quarterback Vince Young, in an interview with ESPN, addressed remarks he recently made to a Baltimore TV station about wanting to be traded. Young said he would be willing to be the No. 2 quarterback for the next two years - not by choice, but he did it last season - and reiterated the point he made recently to a Baltimore television station last month: He's ready to play now. "I don't know what NFL player around the league doesn't want to play and be a starter," Young told ESPN's Michael Smith. "So what I'm saying is that I'm ready to play ball, and if it's not here in my next two years, that I'm going to be able to play here, then I'm telling guys around the league I'm ready to ..."
Fisher: No problems with Young's statements
"Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher says he is fine with Vince Young's claims on a Baltimore television station that he wants to start in Tennessee or consider the possibility of moving on elsewhere in his career. Fisher made the comments on WGFX-FM 104.5 The Zone's SportsZone with George Plaster on Wednesday. "Our situation is clear, and I don't have an issue with it, nor does Vince," Fisher said. "If Vince had had an issue with it, he would have been in my office. He's been in my office once [in February], and we had a great visit. We visited this morning, and it didn't come up, and he's working hard, period." Young had made his comments on WMAR-TV in Baltimore, saying, "If them guys ..."
Vince Young's agent runs a reverse
"After being a football star in his rookie NFL season, at the University of Texas and during his entire playing career dating to childhood, Titans quarterback Vince Young is absolutely desperate to get back on the football field and under center. That, his agent said Wednesday, is the simple reason behind a comment made this week by the former No. 3 overall draft pick, whose inconsistent passing and off-the-field mistakes have left him relegated to backup on a team that sometimes seems to be moving on without him. During an interview with a Baltimore television station, Young made it clear it's time for him to play football or go elsewhere. "He was just voicing his opinion about competing ..."
Vince Young: Start or trade me
"If the Titans don't want him to play, Vince Young is ready to move on. The No. 3 pick of the 2006 NFL Draft told a Baltimore television station Saturday that he wanted to become the starting quarterback for the Titans - regaining the job he lost last season to Kerry Collins in dramatic fashion - or find another team. The Titans are coming off a season in which they won 10 consecutive games, leading to a league-best 13-3 record in the regular season before falling to Baltimore in the AFC divisional round. "I definitely want to get back out there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and with the fans," Young told WMAR-TV, an ABC ..."
Young's agent: Vince has no desire to be traded
"Vince Young's agent says the quarterback has no desire to be traded from the Tennessee Titans. Young, who told Baltimore television station WMAR earlier this week that he is focused on winning back the starting job in Tennessee, but that if that doesn't happen, that he would be ready to move on. "I'm still focused, staying focused. I've got a lot of people that look up to me. I've got a fans that love me and want to see me back out on the football field," Young told the station. "Right now, I'm just taking it a day at a time, being very competitive, competing for the job and just let Coach Fish[er] make his own decision. "Definitely I want to be in there playing ball and picking up where I ..."
Tampering often tough to prove
"The Tennessee Titans may have a hard time convincing NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that the Washington Redskins improperly talked to their best player or his agent before the Feb. 27 start of free agency. Such cases are much easier to make than actually win in the NFL, which still operates under an "everybody does it" mentality when it comes to tampering, according to multiple league sources. "No question we lost players over the years because of tampering, but it's really tough to prove," former Redskins and Houston Texans general manager Charlie Casserly said. The NFL is investigating the Redskins for their involvement with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth after the Titans, for whom ..."
Haynesworth Focus of Tampering Probe
"Albert Haynesworth is among the people expected to be interviewed by NFL officials possibly as early as this week regarding allegations that the Washington Redskins violated league tampering rules, according to league sources. NFL investigators have been reviewing information relating to the Redskins' pursuit of Haynesworth, who formerly played for the Tennessee Titans, and whether his representative was improperly contacted before free agency officially began at midnight Feb. 27. The Redskins and Haynesworth agreed to terms of a deal by 5:30 a.m. Feb. 27. League investigators are interested in obtaining all communications between Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, and Redskins officials in ..."
Is IR system in line for a change?
"When the NFL adopted its system for placing players on season-ending injured reserve, the main issue was stashing. Teams had long been allowed to place players on injured reserve and bring them back later in the season. But some felt that clubs were circumventing the rule by placing players who weren't truly injured on IR, opening a roster spot for someone else. Thus, a competitive advantage was scored. Colts president Bill Polian remembers high-profile coaches and personnel executives, such as Don Shula and Jim Finks, pushing for a change to combat stashing, and it finally came in 1993, when the league made two significant adjustments. At that time, players placed on injured reserve would ..."
Bulluck still absent from Titans camp
"Titans veteran linebacker Keith Bulluck was absent for a second straight week of the team's May minicamp, though Coach Jeff Fisher didn't seem concerned Tuesday. Bulluck continues to take care of personal business, Fisher said. Bulluck's agent told The Tennessean last week that the 10-year pro's absence has nothing to do with his contract situation. Bulluck has one year remaining on his deal with the Titans. "He has some issues he is tending to and I'll be talking to him in the next couple of days,'' Fisher said. "I am not necessarily concerned about Keith. I am sure if he could be here he would.'' Bulluck has also been absent from the team's offseason workout program in recent weeks, ..."
Titans undecided on Bennett, Fisher says
"Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said Tuesday he was "pleased" with the results of receiver Drew Bennett's physical, but the team hadn't decided whether to sign him. Bennett, a Titan from 2001-06, spent the last two seasons in St. Louis. He visited Baptist Sports Park on Monday. "We just had Drew in for a physical and we do that periodically with players that are available and are out there. You just want to bring them in and get him checked out in case there is some interest down the line,'' Fisher said after Tuesday's minicamp practice. "We have not made a commitment to him, nor has he made a commitment to us. We just brought him in to see his status. We are in the preliminary stages. ... Drew ..."
Former Titans receiver Drew Bennett is scheduled to visit with team officials today
"Bennett, a free agent, is scheduled to undergo a physical at Baptist Sports Park. He also has visited Cleveland and Atlanta this offseason after being released by the Rams in March. Bennett played six seasons with the Titans (2001-06) and led the team in receptions for two straight seasons and in receiving yards three straight seasons. He ranks eighth in Titans franchise history with 4,033 yards and ninth with 273 receptions. Bennett signed a six-year, $30 million contract with the Rams in 2007 but was released by the team after two injury-filled seasons. Bennett had just one catch for 4 yards in '08 after suffering a foot injury in week one. He ended the season on injured reserve. The ..."
WR Bennett to visit Titans on Monday
"Former Titans receiver Drew Bennett is scheduled to visit with team officials on Monday, possibly the first step of his return to the team. Bennett, a free agent, is scheduled to undergo a physical at Baptist Sports Park. He's also paid free agency visits to Cleveland and Atlanta this offseason after being released by the Rams in March. Bennett played six seasons with the Titans (2001-06) and led the team in receptions for two straight seasons and in receiving yards three straight seasons. He ranks eighth in Titans franchise history with 4,033 yards and ninth with 273 receptions. Bennett signed a 6-year, $30 million contract with the Rams in 2007, but was released by the team after two ..."
In final year, Vanden Bosch not focused on new deal
"Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said he won't let his contract situation be a distraction. Vanden Bosch's contract expires after the 2009 season and no contract talks have taken place yet. If the Titans want him to prove himself again after an injury-plagued '08 season, so be it, he said. "I don't know what anybody is thinking. Honestly, the only person I need to prove anything to is myself and I try and do that every day,'' he said. "I am not running out there in practice or practicing hard to show scouts or coaches or anyone in the front office. I am doing it to prove to myself to try to get back to being a really good defensive end and just to help this defense.'' His driving force this ..."
Titans sign free agents, including son of ESPN's Mortensen
"The Tennessee Titans added eight undrafted free agents to their 2009 rookie class on Monday, headlined by quarterback Alex Mortensen. If that last name sounds familiar, it's because Mortensen is the son of ESPN football analyst Chris Mortensen. The younger Mortensen spent time as a backup quarterback at Arkansas and also spent time at Samford. Others in Tennessee's undrafted class include wide receivers Dudley Guice of New Mexico State and Phillip Morris of South Carolina State, cornerback Jeremy Haynes of McNeese State, defensive lineman Mitch King of Iowa, guard Ryan Schmidt of South Florida, running back Rodney Ferguson of New Mexico and punter A.J. Trapasso of Ohio State."
Titans TE Scaife to sign tender
"Titans tight end Bo Scaife is planning to sign his franchise tender on Monday after reporting to the team's offseason program, his agent said. Agent Kevin Robinson said Scaife intended to sign his tender even before the Titans drafted South Carolina tight end Jared Cook in the third round of Sunday's NFL Draft. Last week, The Tennessean also reported Scaife had plans to report after working out in Denver for the first six weeks of the program. Scaife was at Baptist Sports Park on Monday. A number of teams expressed in interest in trading for Scaife during this weekend's NFL Draft, but nothing ever materialized. Since the draft has passed, trade talks appear to be dead. Scaife will make ..."
Deal for a receiver could be super for Titans
"Give the Atlanta Falcons credit. They got a taste of the playoffs last season. Now they want more. They needed a tight end who could catch passes. Instead of waiting to take one in the draft, they snagged Chiefs veteran Tony Gonzalez, a future Hall of Famer, on Thursday. He cost the Falcons a 2010 second-round pick. Now they won't have to wait two years for a rookie tight end to develop. Gonzalez is proven. You know what you are getting with him. Escaping what has become a rudderless Chiefs franchise and going to a playoff team could add years to his career. And the Falcons just gave quarterback Matt Ryan, last season's rookie of the year, another weapon. They saw what happened against the ..."
Crystal ball gazing — a mock draft peek at Tennessee's likely first 10 picks
"It's time for my annual mock draft to take wild stabs at just whom the Tennessee Titans might select with their 10 picks this weekend. And stop me if you've heard this before, but the Titans enter 2009 NFL Draft weekend looking for help at wide receiver. It is a familiar refrain around Baptist Sports Park and with Titans fans. Still, despite needing help at the position, Tennessee has normally addressed other needs first with draft picks — not having used a first-round pick at receiver since Kevin Dyson in 1998 or a second-rounder there since Tyrone Calico in 2003. Although the Titans could have a number of options when their turn comes at No. 30 on Saturday, perhaps — just perhaps — this ..."
Is Florida's Harvin on Titans' Radar?
"Contrary to some speculation, Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin is not off the Tennessee Titans' draft board. Where exactly Harvin is on the Titans board is uncertain, as the team almost certainly would shy away from him at No. 30 in this weekend's NFL Draft, but at Thursday's annual pre-draft press conference, the team made it clear Harvin is still on the radar, despite reports of a positive drug test and other issues of coachability and durability that have been raised. "The [Percy] Harvin kid is the most explosive player in this draft by far. I know he has problems so that is probably going to hurt his draft status a little bit," Titans director of college scouting for the East Region ..."
Titans keep receiver trade on radar
"The Titans have a pressing need at wide receiver, and with 10 picks in the NFL draft they have the ammunition to make a blockbuster trade. Time is running out for them to pull the trigger, however. On Thursday, Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt didn't rule out the possibility of making such a bold move. Yet while the Titans have been in contact with the Cardinals about top-flight receiver Anquan Boldin, according to sources familiar with the situation, nothing appears imminent with the draft now just a day away. "It's safe to say we're always trying to get the team better, so we'll continue to monitor various situations,'' said Reinfeldt, declining to discuss Boldin specifically. "But ..."
Corners may add depth to Titans
"Craig Jefferies has heard similar questions before. Is Vontae Davis, his former high school football pupil, big enough and fast enough to be a first-round pick in this weekend's NFL Draft? The last time Jefferies fielded these kinds questions was about four years ago when a small number of colleges considered Vontae, the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, for a football scholarship. Davis had three or four offers, Jefferies said. Davis went on to sign with Illinois, where he became a two-time All-Big Ten selection. Now the questions are back as Davis joins Connecticut's Darius Butler as perhaps the top cornerback options for the Titans, who30th overall in ..."
Titans could trade for Boldin
"All those fans hoping the Titans trade for a veteran receiver can consider this good news — Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt hasn't squashed the dream yet. At a press conference today to discuss this weekend's NFL Draft, Reinfeldt once again spoke of the possibility of the Titans trading for a receiver and — without naming the player or team — said discussions have taken place. "It's safe to say we're always trying to get the team better, so we'll continue to monitor various situations,'' Reinfeldt said. "There's a numbers of players that are discussed at this point and time; that is kind of how it works. But I wouldn't want to go into the specifics of any of those players or the ..."
Titans might take a peek at younger linebackers
"Of the positions at which the Titans need some help from this NFL Draft, linebacker might be the least of their concerns. Veterans Keith Bulluck and David Thornton played admirably on the outside last season, with Bulluck leading the Titans in tackles and Thornton ranking fourth. Middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch, a third-year pro and first-year starter, was the second-leading tackler. Yet age on the outside - Bulluck is entering his 10th season, Thornton his eighth - and the presence of several intriguing prospects could persuade the Titans to bypass their strategy of taking the best player available regardless of need anda linebacker with the 30th overall pick on Saturday. While Wake ..."
A receiver still interests Titans
"The Titans didn't land veteran Torry Holt but they still plan to add wide receivers to the roster, General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said Tuesday. This weekend's NFL Draft provides an opportunity, but Reinfeldt said there's a chance the Titans could make a draft day trade for a veteran wideout. "There is always that potential because there is a number of receivers that will get drafted fairly high that may open up other opportunities,'' Reinfeldt said. "Someone might draft a receiver high and want to move one of their people. "There's a chance we could still sign a veteran receiver, I would think either during the draft or post-draft, yes. I guess whatever options works out.'' The Titans are ..."
Titans' RB Johnson reports to offseason program
"Titans running back Chris Johnson has had a change of heart - and workout location. Johnson reported to Baptist Sports Park on Tuesday, his first day in the offseason program. Johnson had been working out with a personal trainer in Florida, and indicated earlier this month he planned to work out on his own for a while. Johnson instead returned to Nashville and worked out with strength and conditioning coach Steve Watterson. Participation in the team's offseason program is voluntary, but strongly encouraged. Coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the news on Tuesday night. "I've said all along I expected Chris to come back and join the offseason program and he is here,'' Fisher said. "Everybody else ..."
Titans could trade for receiver, Reinfeldt says
"The Titans didn't land veteran receiver Torry Holt, but they still plan to add players at the position, General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said Tuesday. This weekend's NFL Draft provides an opportunity, but Reinfeldt also said there's a chance the Titans could make a draft day trade for a veteran receiver. "There is always that potential because there is a number of receivers that will get drafted fairly high that may open up other opportunities,'' Reinfeldt said. "Someone might draft a receiver high and want to move one of their people. We would consider that option. "I think there's a chance we could still sign a veteran receiver, I would think either during the draft or post-draft, yes. I ..."
Vol could provide depth for Titans
"After four years of college football NFL teams are still unsure of who defensive end Robert Ayers is and, even more important, what he will become. Ayers could be the former University of Tennessee playmaker who last fall enjoyed his best season yet, compiling 49 tackles and three sacks. But he could be a one-year wonder, the letterman that needed nearly three years in Knoxville to make a consistent impact. Or he could be the teenager who became a man in 2008, realizing natural talent would only take him so far, that he had to work to get better - weight room, classroom, practice field. After all, Ayers transformed from another reserve in the Volunteers rotation to one of the most sought ..."
Titans seem unlikely to get Anquan Boldin
"The Cardinals have made it clear that receiver Anquan Boldin is available via trade. Several teams seem interested, but the Titans say they are staying on the sideline for now. "We haven't had any discussions," Coach Jeff Fisher said Thursday. "It will be discussed in-house. Whether it gets to the point where we discuss it with Arizona remains to be seen." Arizona Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wednesday the Cardinals are willing to listen to offers, but would also like to re-sign Boldin to a long-term deal. The Eagles, Giants, Ravens and Jets are among the teams believed to be interested in Boldin, who had 89 catches for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. The price to get him would ..."
The NFL Draft: Which DB Could Well Be in the Titans' Corner?
"OK, back to the proverbial war room in trying to find just the right fit for the Tennessee Titans in the 2009 draft. Many fans and experts alike would like for the Titans to finally add a wide receiver in the first round, something they have not done since 1998. That is possible, as mentioned in our April 6 story about wideouts who might potentially be available when the Titans pick at No. 30 on April 25. But maybe even more important in terms of need, the Titans could look at the defensive secondary as an area to address in the first round instead. Tennessee recently added veteran DeMarcus Faggins from Houston to back up starters Cortland Finnegan and Nick Harper, but more help is needed, ..."
WR Holt scheduled to visit Titans later this week
