Tennessee Titans News

Titans to host Eagles' free-agent safety
"The Tennessee Titans will play host to free agent safety Sean Jones of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a league source. Jones, 28, had 61 tackles and two interceptions for the Eagles, where he spent last season. His first five NFL seasons were spent with the Cleveland Browns. He has 16 career interceptions. Jones played at the University of Georgia and also at Atlanta's Westlake High School, the same school where former Titan Adam "Pacman" Jones played high school football."
Safety might be next to visit
"Jim Wyatt is on vacation. Here's a Titansby Bryan Mullen: The Titans signed cornerback Rod Hood on Friday to add depth and experience. It appears the secondary will continue to be the focus on Monday. Veteran safety Sean Jones, an unrestricted free agent from the Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to visit the Titans for a tryout, according to The Tampa Tribune. When reached Saturday night, Jones' agent Brian Mackler refused to confirm or deny the visit would take place."
Titans defense also sacks the bank
"If you've ever stopped by Titans training camp, you've undoubtedly heard Jim Washburn, even if you didn't see him. He's the coach in the faded baseball cap, yelling at the top of his lungs at the defensive linemen. They're sweating and at the point of exhaustion, but he keeps on riding them. It would be natural to assume those players are calling Washburn dirty names underneath those heavy breaths. And at the beginning, some do. But years later, when their contracts are up and they leave the Titans, they use words like "friend" and "father figure" to describe the team's defensive line coach of the past 11 years. Another fitting handle: moneymaker. When defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch ..."
Titans re-sign cornerback Rod Hood
"The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with cornerback Rod Hood on a new contract, according to a league source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Hood, a mid-season acquisition last year, quickly made an impression by intercepting passes in three consecutive starts for the Titans after being signed five weeks into the 2009 season. He returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills. By returning to the Titans, Hood would immediately inject a veteran presence into the open competition at cornerback opposite Cortland Finnegan and compete with second-year players Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty for a starting job. It might also lessen the prospect of ..."
Scaife to Patriots would make sense
"Consider this as a not-so-farfetched scenario. The New England Patriots might be a good fit for Tennessee Titans restricted free agent tight end Bo Scaife. Scaife, 29, has a first-round restricted tender of $4.9 million because he was franchised last year at $4.46 million. There was speculation last year that the Patriots had interest in Scaife back then, and they are much more tight end needy now that Benjamin Watson signed with the Cleveland Browns than they were then. Also, if the Titans could move Scaife, it would be better for them to probably try and work out a trade. The Patriots have three second-round picks, but no third-rounder, including Tennessee's second-round pick last year ..."
Titans agree to terms with Rod Hood
"The Titans agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent cornerback Rod Hood on Friday. It's a one-year deal. Hood appeared in six games for the Titans last season and started in four of them. He had 16 tackles and was tied for second on the team with three interceptions."
Mawae still in wait-and-see mode
"Kevin Mawae is generating some interest in the free agent market, but that doesn't necessarily mean the 39-year-old center will find a new home soon. "We've had several teams interested in Kevin, but he's going to take his time in this process," Mawae's agent Mark Bartelstein said. Mawae, who has made eight Pro Bowls in his 16-year career, is currently in Hawaii, according to Bartelstein, ironically the same location he was in when he signed with the Titans as a free agent in 2006. When the Titans re-signed Eugene Amano last month, it likely closed any door Mawae had to return to Tennessee as a starter, because the team is eager to get Leroy Harris into the lineup on the offensive line. ..."
New Titan Will Witherspoon ready for challenge
"Linebacker Will Witherspoon turns 30 in August, so he can't exactly serve as the poster child for what's become a Titans youth movement at several positions. He's played eight seasons, with three different teams, but on Wednesday he said he has plenty left to offer. "In eight years I think I have only missed four games. People have to look at that and say, 'This guy is sturdy, he is going to be on the field for us week in and week out,' '' he said during a press conference at Baptist Sports Park. "I always say, 'I have a lot of great years left in me.' "If you asked me eight years ago how long I thought I'd play, I wouldn't know. You ask me that same question today and I feel like I have ..."
So much for Titans chasing Jackson
"So much for the Titans going after former Colt defensive back Marlin Jackson. I blogged at the start of free agency I thought he'd be a good fit for the Titans. But the Titans never showed much interest in Jackson, and on Wednesday he agreed to a two-year deal with the Eagles. Teams that didn't make a play for Jackson had to be concerned about his injury history. His past two seasons in Indianapolis were cut short because of ACL injuries that occured in non-contact situations."
Witherspoon eager to make his mark with Titans
"Will Witherspoon has a new team and a new conference to play in, in signing a three-year, $11 million contract with the Tennessee Titans. But the linebacker also has quite a bit of familiarity as he begins the next chapter of his NFL career in Nashville. Witherspoon's father, Cordell, was born in nearby Franklin, and even though his father, a retired military officer now lives in Missouri, the linebacker still has plenty of uncles and cousins in the Nashville area, as he comes aboard as the latest free agent pickup of the Tennessee Titans. So, that was a factor for Witherspoon, who was released last week by the Philadelphia Eagles, who elected not to pay him a $5 million salary for the ..."
Witherspoon, Titans agree to three-year contract
"Will Witherspoon and the Tennessee Titans have agreed on a three-year contract, making him the team's first free agent pick up of the off-season. The contract is valued at $11 million, according to a league source. Witherspoon, 29, was released last week by the Philadelphia Eagles and will be penciled in as a starter at outside linebacker. Witherspoon totaled 92 tackles in splitting the 2009 season between the St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles."
Titans add linebacker Witherspoon
"Will Witherspoon isn't sure who'll surround him on the Titans' linebacker corps, but he knows he'll fit in. That's because in more ways than one, Witherspoon feels like he's in a familiar place after agreeing to a three-year, $11 million contract with the Titans on Tuesday. It's a deal that includes $5 million in guarantees. "I definitely think there is a chance to thrive in this defense,'' Witherspoon said Tuesday night. "It is very similar to some things I have done in the past, and I am looking forward to making sure I can make an impact and bring some things to the forefront. I am excited and ready to do my part.''"
Titans to pay Young's roster bonus
"The Titans will pick up quarterback Vince Young's $4.25 million roster bonus on Wednesday, the date it is due payable. Then the Titans would owe Young a base salary of $7.5 million in 2010. He's also scheduled to make $8.5 million in 2011. Young's agent, Major Adams, on Tuesday said "nothing has changed.'' He told The Tennessean last month he expected Young's contract remain as it was negotiated back in August 2006, after Young was the 3rd overall pick of the NFL Draft. "I think it will probably stay as is for now,'' Adams said. "Vince loves Tennessee and loves playing for the Titans. He's very happy.'' Young took over as the team's starter after the Titans started 0–6 in 2009."
Titans, linebacker Will Witherspoon to meet today
"With questions at linebacker, the Titans will entertain free agent Will Witherspoon today. The Eagles released the 29-year-old linebacker on March 5. He spent his first four seasons with the Panthers (2002-05) before signing a six-year, $33-million deal with the Rams. The Rams traded the 6-foot-1, 239-pounder to the Eagles last season, and in 11 games for Philadelphia he had 59 tackles, one sack and one interception. He was scheduled to earn $5 million in base pay in 2010. Witherspoon has played outside and inside. In his best game for the Eagles, he had nine tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception he returned for a touchdown against the Redskins. The Titans have some ..."
LB Witherspoon will visit Titans; Crumpler eyes New England
"The second Philadelphia Eagles free agent in as many days will visit the Titans when linebacker Will Witherspoon comes to town on Tuesday. Witherspoon, 29, split time between the St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles in 2009, totaling 92 tackles with one interception. Defensive end Jason Babin was at Baptist Sports Park on Monday. Witherspoon, a former University of Georgia star, was originally with the Carolina Panthers from 2002-05 before joining the Rams."
Do the Titans have a free-agency plan?
"When the off-season began, Coach Jeff Fisher said one of the team's main priorities was to fix a defense that tumbled to 28th overall in the NFL rankings, allowing more than 365 yards per game in 2009. Exactly how the Titans plan to fix that through the first handful of days in free agency remains a mystery. On the first day of free agency, Fisher was out of the state and general manager Mike Reinfeldt was at a speaking engagement at a local high school. So, it's safe to say the Titans were taking the slow and deliberate approach to free agency once again, something that has become a trend most years with the franchise. The last time the Titans were busy during the early part of the free ..."
No offer yet from Titans to Babin
"Free agent defensive end Jason Babin was wrapping up his visit with the Tennessee Titans on Monday afternoon, but still had not received a contract offer from the club, according to a league source. Babin, 29, is the first free agent visitor to the Titans this off-season, as the team seeks help at the defensive end position. In the first hours of free agency on Friday morning, the Titans lost Kyle Vanden Bosch to the Detroit Lions, as he signed a four-year, $26 million deal."
Keith Bulluck surprises players with cash awards
"Keith Bulluck surprised nine Middle Tennessee area high school football players Monday night by presenting them with college scholarship money. The Titans linebacker gave $1,000 to each recipient as part of what he named the Steve McNair Iron Will Scholarship at the 44th annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame awards dinner. Bulluck selected nine in honor of McNair's jersey number from the 54 Charles W. Hawkins III High School Scholar-Athlete winners who were honored. "They all filled out applications and it really was a lot of work picking nine,'' Bulluck said. "I read through all of them, looked at their GPAs, looked at their extracurricular activities, looked at ..."
Mawae exploring options in free agency
"The agent for Titans center Kevin Mawae continues to talk with other NFL teams about possibilities for the 16-year pro. The Titans informed Mawae they'd like him to return as a back-up, but he's first looking around in free agency at his options. "We are talking to a bunch of people. There is kind of a domino effect to all this, and we are just going through the process,'' agent Mark Bartelstein said. "Everything is good, but nothing major to report right now. I don't want to get into specifics, but we are talking to people and there's a lot of moving pieces.''"
DE Babin arrives for visit with Titans
"Jason Babin, a free agent defensive end from the Philadelphia Eagles, arrived in Nashville Sunday and will be the team's first free agent visitor of the off-season on Monday. Babin, 29, recorded 2.5 sacks for the Philadelphia Eagles this past season and has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks after being a first-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2004. "They've been interested in him all the way through the process," Babin's agent Tony Agnone said. "He can rush passer pretty well and they feel like he has some upside and has a real good future." Coincidentally, Agnone also represents Kyle Vanden Bosch, who left the Titans for Detroit, thanks to a four-year, $26 ..."
Most of NFL passes Titans in free agency
"On the first day of NFL free agency, the most noise made was no sound at all. It was the silence surrounding the Cowboys and Redskins camps. Notorious players in the free-agent market, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Redskins owner Dan Snyder were conspicuous by their absence in the annual poker game. We expected nothing to happen in Titans Town and were not surprised when our hopes were dashed. The Titans allowed former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to slip back into town, backing a Brinks truck up to Kyle Vanden Bosch's house. After depositing a reported $26 million, - presto - Vanden Bosch became a Detroit Lions defensive end and put Nashville in his rearview mirror. The Lions jumped ..."
Titans "still in mix" for Crumpler
"The Titans remain the favorite to re-sign free agent tight end Alge Crumpler, but some other teams have inquired about the veteran, his agent said. "They're still in the mix,'' agent Butch Williams said of the Titans. "I've heard from other teams. But he'd like to stay with Tennessee.'' Williams said Crumpler, coming off his ninth NFL season, wouldn't necessarily have to visit another team before signing with it."
Titans should consider another Colt
"The Titans have a long history of signing former Colts, and vice versa. In the past Tennessee has added guys like linebacker David Thornton, guard Jake Scott, cornerback Nick Harper and tight end Ben Hartsock. Here's another former Colt they should consider: cornerback Marlin Jackson. He would seem to be a guy right up their alley. A first-round pick in 2005, Jackson quickly proved to be a solid player. But he suffered ACL injuries in the past two seasons, including last November. His situation is similar to Keith Bulluck's - recovering and hoping another team gives him a chance after the Colts failed to tender him."
Kyle Vanden Bosch leaves Titans for Lions in free agency
"Jim Schwartz couldn't promise Kyle Vanden Bosch wins, not after the Detroit Lions finished 2-14 last season. He couldn't point to history, since the Lions haven't had a winning season in a decade or a playoff victory since 1991. But in a late-night visit to Vanden Bosch's Nashville home on Thursday, the coach made enough of a sales pitch to persuade the former Titans defensive end to join him. A four-year, $26 million contract didn't hurt, of course, especially since it included $10 million guaranteed this year."
Will Schwartz pay visit to Bulluck next?
"Keith Bulluck might want to move his Doberman Pinschers inside. You never know where Jim Schwartz might be lurking. The Lions coach and former Titans defensive coordinator paid defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch a visit just as the free-agent market opened on Thursday night. So now it won't be a complete surprise if he makes a similar recruiting pitch to Bulluck. Bulluck, of course, is still recovering from knee surgery, so he has plenty of time to make a decision. There's no sense of urgency on either side right now, but I almost expect the Lions to make a run at Bulluck at some point."
Will Titans honor White's request?
"LenDale White has spoken. Now we'll see if the Titans are listening, or how much they care about what he said. I talked to the Titans running back on Friday, not long after he'd finished a workout. He said some things he'd probably been feeling for a while now, but had chosen not to voice them. White is frustrated, and wants to play. He can't stand watching games from the sideline, and can't see anything changing with the Titans, not with fellow running back Chris Johnson around. Heck, the guy is the LeBron James of the NFL. So White would like to be traded, so he could have a chance at a starting spot elsewhere. He said he's remained in good shape since season's end, ready to help. "I ..."
Most of NFL passes Titans in free agency

Notorious players in the free-agent market, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Redskins owner Dan Snyder were conspicuous by their absence in the annual poker game. We expected nothing to happen in Titans Town and were not surprised when our hopes were dashed. Titans running back LenDale White: Play me or trade me
"LenDale White has a message for the Titans: play me or trade me. After backing up the NFL's leading rusher in 2009, the veteran running back doesn't think the first part is an option. "I did good with it for a year, I didn't complain. I backed up greatness, a guy who ran for 2,000 yards. But now that that's over I feel like … it is time for me to start somewhere. And that is what I want to do. I want to be a starter in the NFL, not a backup,'' White said on Friday. "I would definitely be interested in a trade. I don't know where, or how (the Titans) might view that, but that is what I am hoping for. I can't see me sitting in Tennessee as a backup any more. And that goes as no disrespect to ..."
Vanden Bosch agrees to four-year deal with Lions
"Kyle Vanden Bosch's stay on the free agent market was a short one, as the defensive end agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions, just hours after Lions head coach Jim Schwartz arrived at his Nashville area home at the start of the free agency period. Vanden Bosch agreed to a four-year contract with the Lions on Friday morning worth $26 million. His agent Tony Agnone confirmed to The City Paper that the agreement had been reached between the Lions and his client. "Kyle has loved every minute in Nashville," Agnone said, "and thanks the fans for their support. He is looking forward to the new challenge in Detroit." Vanden Bosch will be joining a Lions team that Schwartz is charged with ..."
Titans still haven't contacted Peppers
"It looks like the Titans have no plans to get into the Julius Peppers sweepstakes. The Carolina defensive end is regarded as the top free agent on the market. Already Friday morning he's on his way to visit the Bears, and a number of teams have expressed an interest. The Titans aren't one of the teams, however."
Lions reach deal with Kyle Vanden Bosch
"Coach Jim Schwartz got his man today when the Detroit Lions agreed to a four-year deal with defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch. He did it with an aggressive personal touch, expressing confidence in Vanden Bosch and assuring him that the Lions have a larger rebuilding plan. Schwartz showed up at Vanden Bosch’s house in Nashville, Tenn., as the free-agent market opened at midnight. Schwartz was Vanden Bosch’s defensive coordinator for four years with the Titans. “Kyle was our No. 1 priority in free agency,” Schwartz told si.com. “I sat in his driveway and waited until midnight ET to send him a text and tell him I was there. I think he is going to be a perfect fit for our defense, not only as a ..."
Kyle Vanden Bosch sees end of line with Titans
"Kyle Vanden Bosch got behind the wheel of a recreational vehicle last week and drove his family to Disneyworld. Soon he expects to be loading his family's belongings into a moving van. The Titans defensive end becomes an unrestricted free agent tonight at 11:01 p.m., free to sign with any team. A number of teams are expected to be interested in the three-time Pro Bowl selection who spent the past five seasons with the Titans. Today he called a return to Tennessee "unlikely." "I am anxious,'' Vanden Bosch said. "It is like I am nervous again, like when I first came to Tennessee. That's what I was thinking about working out today, that wherever I go, when I start an offseason program, I want ..."
Eight Titans hit free agency
"Kyle Vanden Bosch got behind the steering wheel of a recreational vehicle last week and drove his family to Disney World. Soon, he expects to be loading his family's belongings into a moving van. The defensive end became an unrestricted free agent at 11:01 p.m. Thursday, free to sign with any team. He joined seven other Titans on the market, including center Kevin Mawae and linebacker Keith Bulluck. A number of teams are expected to show interest in Vanden Bosch, who spent the past five seasons with the Titans and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection. On Thursday, Vanden Bosch said his re-signing with Tennessee was "unlikely." "I am anxious. It is like I am nervous again, like when I first ..."
Schwartz in Nashville; Lions frontrunner for Vanden Bosch
"It didn't take long for Kyle Vanden Bosch to find a pursuer in free agency. His old defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans, Jim Schwartz, arrived in Nashville at the defensive end's house to make a pitch for Vanden Bosch to join him with the Detroit Lions. According to a league source, there appears to be a chance that the sides could agree to a deal soon. Bosch and Kevin Mawae should garner the most early interest on the market among the Titans available. In addition to the Lions, Seattle, Jacksonville, Chicago, Philadelphia and possibly New Orleans also are believed to have Vanden Bosch on their radar as well. The Titans themselves were quiet in the early hours of free agency as ..."
Handicapping the Titans' free agent field
"When the clock strikes midnight (Eastern), another year of free agency will begin in the NFL. This year will be unlike any other in that it is an uncapped year with no limits on spending for players in free agency. That said, look for the Titans to sit back and take their usual cautious approach, even if it means some of the biggest names, including a few of their own, head for greener pastures elsewhere. Also, I wouldn't expect Tennessee to jump into the fray for any of the top-rated free agents from other teams immediately either. Even though the Titans admit their defense needs to be repaired, don't look for Julius Peppers or Karlos Dansby to be touching down in Nashville as they search ..."
Titans, Crumpler working on deal
"The Titans and the agent for tight end Alge Crumpler remain in conversations about a contract extension as the free agency deadline approaches. Even if the two sides can't reach a deal by Friday, however, that doesn't mean something can't be worked out. Agent Butch Williams on Thursday sounded optimistic. He talked with the Titans on Wednesday and plans to talk to them again on Thursday. "These are artificial time restrictions because if a guy wants to go with a team and the team wants him, that time doesn't really matter,'' Williams said. "It is mutual. He respects them and they respect him, so we'll be all right.''"
Titans free agency moves could be limited
"This is like Christmas Eve for NFL fans. Tonight they'll go to bed with visions of their team dishing out the dough and signing up star players when the annual free-agent market opens at 11 p.m. CST. Yet many fans, including those wearing Tennessee Titans pajamas, probably will be disappointed when they wake up. There's no salary cap this year — meaning franchises can spend whatever they want on players — but the Titans and other teams are expected to maintain a somewhat conservative approach. That doesn't mean adding a big-name player is out of the question. But while big-market, deep-pocketed teams such as the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys might whip out their wallets when the ..."
Titans begin roster adjustments
"The Titans placed a one-year tender on defensive tackle Tony Brown on Wednesday, but negotiations toward a long-term contract are expected to continue. "I wouldn't say we are super close, but talks are still good," agent Marty Magid said. "Tony wants to be a Titan, there's no doubt about that. But Rome wasn't built in a day. … The structure is there; it is just a matter of finding the right number.'' It was a busy day as the Titans made tender offers to five restricted free agents and agreed to terms with long snapper Ken Amato on a two-year deal. Brown was tendered at the first-round level, which means he'll earn $2.621 million this year. They placed first-round tenders on tight end Bo ..."
Titans, Amato agree to two-year extension
"The Tennessee Titans and long snapper Ken Amato agreed to a two-year extension on Wednesday that will keep him off the free agent market. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Amato has served as the Titans regular long snapper and as an emergency backup linebacker since joining the team in 2003."
Super Bowl contender atop Mawae's free agency wish list
"As Kevin Mawae prepares to enter free agency with 16 seasons of NFL experience under his belt, one overriding factor could play into where the veteran center might land. Mawae, 39, is the active leader for regular-season games played by an offensive lineman with 241, has been to eight Pro Bowls and also been selected as an All-Pro. But the one thing that has eluded him since his professional career began in 1994 is the Super Bowl. With the Titans going younger on the offensive line, opting to re-sign Eugene Amano and elevating Leroy Harris into the starting lineup, Mawae is currently on the outside looking in. Or make that looking around, as free agency begins on Friday. "There's no ..."
Busy day for Titans as Brown, others get tenders; Amato re-signs
"The Tennessee Titans will place a first-round tender on defensive tackle Tony Brown and continue to negotiate a long-term extension in the meantime for the defensive tackle. "The talks are going well, but we are approaching a deadline, so they will put a first-round tender on Tony tomorrow," agent Marty Magid told The City Paper on Wednesday. "I am still optimistic that we can work out something long-term in the near future." Brown's tender is for $2.621 million. The Titans also gave tight end Bo Scaife, their franchise player from a year ago a $4.9 million first-round tender, as they had to give him a raise from a year ago when he made $4.46 million as the team's franchise player. There ..."
Vanden Bosch will draw interest
"When free agency opens on Friday, the Titans plan to let defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch head into the market, banking that he won't find a team willing to pay him handsomely. The only way Vanden Bosch would return to the Titans under that scenario is if he strikes out. My bet is he doesn't. At the NFL Combine, I heard plenty of buzz about teams interested in Vanden Bosch. Behind Carolina's Julius Peppers, Vanden Bosch and Green Bay's Aaron Kampman are mentioned most as the top defensive ends headed to free agency. The teams I heard mentioned the most for Vanden Bosch were the Eagles, Bears and Lions. I have a hunch he'll end up on one of those three teams when all is said and done."
Titans' plans don't include Jevon Kearse
"It's the end of the line for Jevon Kearse with the Titans, this time for good. There have been no conversations about re-signing the veteran defensive end, Coach Jeff Fisher said Saturday. Although Kearse had a disappointing finish in his second stint in Tennessee, he will more likely be remembered for his dynamic start. A first-round pick in 1999, the franchise's inaugural season as the Titans, Kearse was NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. From 1999-2003 he recorded 47.5 sacks."
Titan's twin wants to realize own NFL dream
"Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty was born 27 minutes before his identical twin brother Jason, who plays cornerback for the Titans. Smiling, Devin said he's the better player — and better looking. "I would definitely say me,'' Devin said. The Titans drafted Jason in the sixth round last year. He played a significant role on special teams and got some work on defense. Devin, who had four interceptions in his final three years with the Scarlet Knights, is also projected as a middle-round pick. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock, however, rates Devin as one of the top corners and said he brings an extra dimension as a returner. "He might be the best special teams player in the draft,'' ..."
At the Combine: Titans visit with Vols' Hardesty
"The Tennessee Titans already have a full stable of running backs, but that didn't stop them from visiting with former University of Tennessee star Montario Hardesty here at the NFL Combine. The Titans already have Chris Johnson as their featured back with LenDale White, a restricted free agent, and Javon Ringer behind him. So it was somewhat interesting that the Titans would be taking a look at yet another running back. Hardesty carried the load for the Volunteers in 2009 with 1,345 yards on 282 carries. He met with new running backs coach Kennedy Pola, as Tennessee was one of a number of teams to show interest in the former Vol."
At the Combine: Britt changes Fisher's mind about rookie receivers
"In many ways the wide receiver position has been a black hole for the Tennessee Titans. For years, Coach Jeff Fisher and his assistants would point out that rookie receivers take time to develop, saying that even Derrick Mason need three seasons to hit his stride, as they made plenty of middle to late-round picks hoping to hit on another unpolished gem like that. But very few draft picks met expectations since the team moved to Tennessee, and free agent pick ups from Yancey Thigpen to Carl Pickens to more recently David Givens never worked out well either. However, it appears that the Titans got one right last year here at the Combine and on draft day, plucking Rutgers' Kenny Britt with ..."
Fisher: Johnson can get even better
"Titans running back Chris Johnson led the league in rushing, and was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2009. No one had more carries, and did more for his team. It's a touch act to follow, for sure, but already Johnson has set his goals higher for 2010 - he wants to be the league's Most Valuable Player. Coach Jeff Fisher told reporters here at the NFL Combine he thinks Johnson can improve. "As coaches we have to say absolutely, yes he can get better,'' Fisher said. "That is the way we are. We want our players to get better. There are some things the offensive staff will look at, some cuts up, and things we could have done a little more different with him. A little more ..."
Titans look for next defensive star
"The last time the Titans picked 16th overall in the NFL Draft, they hit a home run. They had a top-five grade on Florida defensive end Jevon Kearse, so they snapped him up. He made an immediate impact, winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year while helping propel the Titans into Super Bowl XXXIV. Now it's time to replace Kearse. And once again the Titans are picking 16th."
Fisher implies Young will receive $4.25m roster bonus
"In a roundabout way, Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher indicated here Friday at the NFL Combine that the club will pay Vince Young the $4.25 million roster bonus owed him when it comes due on March 10. "I'm not going to get into details of the contract aspects, but Vince is going to return as our starter. There's no need to get into discussions," Fisher said. "We have a deal with Vince and I'm looking forward to him getting into the off-season programs and getting going." Young regained his starting job after the Titans 0-6 start and helped Tennessee to eight wins in its final 10 games, completing 152 of 259 passes with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The quarterback's contract ..."
