Roethlisberger's suspension reduced to 4 games
"As had been expected, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell officially notified Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger this morning that his suspension has been reduced from six games to four to start the regular season. Roethlisbeger will be eligible to return to play Oct. 17 against Cleveland at Heinz Field. Roethlisberger not only cannot visit the Steelers training facility or Heinz Field during his suspension, but he also cannot have any contact with his teammates during that period. Roethlisberger was suspended in April for violating the league's personal conduct policy, but Goodell said at the time he would review Roethlisberger's behavior over the next few months. Goodell was satisfied"
Steelers' Leftwich out indefinitely with MCL tear
"Quarterback Byron Leftwich has apparently torn the medial collateral ligament in his left knee all but knocking him out of the games the Steelers had planned to start him. Leftwich left the Steelers' 19-3 win against the Panthers Thursday night early in the second quarter after another player rolled onto his lower leg. An MRI confirmed the worst for the Steelers, who since the spring have been preparing Leftwich to start while Roethlisberger serves a likely four-game suspension at the start of the regular season. The loss of Leftwich leaves the Steelers with just two healthy quarterbacks for now. Dennis Dixon becomes the frontrunner to fill in under center while Roethlisberger is out. The"
Housh gets feeling he's not wanted in Seattle
"Ask T.J. Houshmandzadeh, and he'll tell you he has one foot out of the door in Seattle. The veteran wide receiver expressed his frustration with a report on the league's website that the Seattle Seahawks are shopping him around the NFL and looking for a trade partner after the team's final exhibition game in Oakland. "If Pete (head coach Pete Carroll) feels like that makes them better, then I'll be somewhere else," Houshmandzadeh said. "It's as simple as that. I can't control it. I'm the type of dude where it doesn't bother me because I can't control it, but it does bother me because nobody said anything to me, and nobody has said anything to me. "And I've got a wife and kids that are"
Report: Browns running back Montario Hardesty may have torn left ACL
"The early diagnosis on Browns running back Montario Hardesty is a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, reported ESPN's Adam Schefter. If that's the case, he'd be out for the 2010 season. "If it's a torn ACL and nothing more than that, Montario can get back to work and get back on the field as soon as possible,'' agent Mitch Frankel told the Plain Dealer. "We're hoping it's not worse than that. From what I saw, it didn't look good.'' Hardesty is awaiting results of a MRI today to confirm the early concerns. Hardesty, the second-round pick out of Tennessee, suffered the injury while trying to make a cut on a two-yard run Thursday night vs. the Bears. He hobbled out of the locker room on"
Chargers could still trade Jackson
"The Chargers remain interested in trading Vincent Jackson and could allow another team to negotiate with the receiver's agents before Saturday, a source said Thursday. So far, the Chargers have only granted the Seattle Seahawks permission to speak with Jackson's agents about a contract. Those talks stalled when the asking price became known, but various reports on Thursday said the Seahawks remain interested. The Minnesota Vikings also balked at the five-year, $50 million deal Jackson's representative were seeking. The Jackson camp has made it known in various media reports the past week their price is not currently that high. In fact, it is possible the one-year deal for somewhere around"
Back on Monday, Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew says
"Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who declined interview requests earlier in the week, said Thursday night he will be ready to return to practice Monday after missing the final two preseason games. Jones-Drew didn't play last Saturday in Tampa Bay or in Thursday night's 13-9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons and hasn't practiced for the past two weeks. "I will be back Monday doing everything I need to do to get ready to beat Denver [in the season opener]," he said. Although the Jaguars and Jones-Drew's agent denied a report that he underwent knee surgery, they aren't required to give out injury reports during the preseason, and they haven't said exactly what sidelined him. And"
Expect Bush to be out awhile
"Based on what information is available regarding the fractured thumb of running back Michael Bush, it's highly unlikely he'd be ready to play in the opener and could miss up to a quarter of the season or more. Bush broke his thumb on his last carry when 49ers safety Michael Lewis hit him with his helmet, with coach Tom Cable saying it was fractured following the game and saying Monday "he'll need a procedure on it, and whether that keeps him out or not remains to be seen." On his Twitter account, Bush said it was a "Bennett fracture" and even showed pictures of himself before surgery. Cable has since declined to discuss the injury and wouldn't confirm the surgery had taken place. According"
Patrick Crayton's agent will ask for client's release
"With the writing on the wall, the agent for wide receiver Patrick Crayton will ask the Cowboys to release his client before the 5 p.m. deadline on Saturday to set the 53-man roster. "It seems he doesn't figure in their plans so it's not logical to be on the roster until Saturday," Fred Lyles said. "We don't see the use in prolonging it.""
Report: Lions' Ndamukong Suh fined $7,500 for roughing Jake Delhomme
"ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Detroit Lions rookie defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been fined $7,500 for this roughing of Cleveland Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme in last week's preseason game. Suh actually committed three personal fouls on one play - facemask, illegal blow to the head and driving the quarterback to the ground. Browns backup quarterback Seneca Wallace said afterward that Suh should be suspended for his actions."
Texans keep kicker Rackers, cut last original team member
"The Texans are keeping kicker Neil Rackers over Kris Brown, who was the last original Texan. They informed Rackers and Brown this morning when they were reducing the roster to 53. "I'm excited, very excited," Rackers said today. "Right now, I'm thinking a lot about Kris and his family and their situation. I respect Kris so much. "I'm excited to be part of a really good team. My mind-set when I came here was to compete with Kris knowing that it would make both of us better kickers. I'm a competitor. I'm a team guy. I play with a lot of heart, and I'll do anything I can to help my team win.""
