Westbrook only "questionable"
"There's still an air of uncertainty about whether or not Brian Westbrook will play Sunday night against the Cowboys. The Eagles' running back was withheld from practice Friday after taking most of the first-team reps on Wednesday and Thursday and is listed on the team's official report as "questionable" - a 50 percent chance to play, in NFL jargon. But coach Andy Reid seemed to suggest that Westbrook would play and was only held out of practice because of the recent workload. "He's had two hard days of work and, really, the young kid [LeSean McCoy] hasn't gotten a ton of reps," Reid said. "Like I've done on some othe Fridays, I kept Brian out." The uncertainty lies in the injury report. ..."
Haynesworth calls out Clabo, Dahl on radio show
"Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth took umbrage with the Falcons' blocking techniques in a radio interview Thursday night and challenged linemen Tyson Clabo and Harvey Dahl. On the "Late Hits" show on Sirius Radio hosted by Bryan McGovern and Ross Tucker, Haynesworth was asked about Clabo and Dahl blocking "all the way up to and including the echo of the whistle." Haynesworth, who was recently voted the second-dirtiest player in the league in a Sports Illustrated poll, is clearly not a fan of their blocking intensity. "Yeah, I don't have the patience for stuff like that," Haynesworth said. "I guess this is where the second-rated dirtiest player can come out. When it ..."
Roddy White expected to play
"Falcons wide receiver Roddy White and offensive tackle Sam Baker returned to practice Friday. White (knee) and Baker (ankle) did not practice Thursday, but were limited in their participation on Friday. "I anticipate them being ready to go on Sunday afternoon," Falcons coach Mike Smith said."
Hester expects to play; Boldin less certain
"The Bears won't be without their top wide receiver, and the Arizona Cardinals just might have their No. 2 guy after all Sunday at Soldier Field. Devin Hester returned to practice for the first time this week on Friday with his sprained right ankle and participated in portions of practice. He looked fine running around, and although he's listed as questionable on the injury report, he's expected to start. The Cardinals also got wide receiver Anquan Boldin back on the field Friday in a limited capacity, and he also is questionable. Boldin suffered a high ankle sprain on Oct. 11 and was knocked out of last Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers. He has vowed to play, and the Bears are ..."
Owner's meeting with fans backfires on Browns
"So Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner met this week with "Dawg Pound Mike" and his buddy, no doubt hoping to get the two fans to call off the kickoff protest planned for Monday night, Nov. 16, when the Baltimore Ravens visit Cleveland Browns Stadium. And here's the Browns' luck: Lerner chats with these guys for about two hours and, after all that blabbing, "Dawg Pound Mike" announces he's still going through with this demonstration that figures to embarrass the organization even more than some of its draft picks. Oh, how Lerner probably wishes he had those two hours back, especially after "Dawg Pound Mike" - who used to come to games dressed as a french fry - kept turning up in national ..."
Antonio Bryant is questionable
"Bucs WR Antonio Bryant is questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers because of a setback with the left knee injury that has lingered since preseason arthroscopic surgery. Bryant believes the nine-hour flight home from the game in London two weeks ago against the Patriots caused extensive swelling. The swelling has subsided, but he did not feel well enough to practice Thursday or Friday. The Bucs had a bye week last week. "That plane ride, that didn't help me," Bryant said. "I was good for, like, two weeks. My knee looked the same, and I probably ran the best I had ran all season. Then, next thing I know, I get on that plane coming back, I get up to use the bathroom, and it's like, ..."
3 Packers fined $5,000 each for actions against Minnesota Vikings
"The NFL fined Green Bay Packers Johnny Jolly, Al Harris and rookie B.J. Raji $5,000 each for actions in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Defensive tackle Jolly was fined today for unnecessary roughness for head-butting running back Chester Taylor. Cornerback Harris was fined for unnecessary roughness for grabbing a helmet opening to make a tackle. Defensive tackle Raji was fined for a major facemask violation. As for Jolly, Packers coach Mike McCarthy expressed his displeasure with the play earlier in the week. Taylor was tackled for a 5-yard loss on a third-down pass play. Instead of kicking a field goal, the Vikings had an automatic first down at the Packers 7 and scored a ..."
Colts lose Sanders, Hayden for extended period
"Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders will require surgery to repair an injury to his left elbow and miss an undetermined amount of time. Also, starting cornerback Kelvin Hayden is expected to miss up to four weeks with a knee injury. Coach Jim Caldwell confirmed the team will be without two of their starting defensive players, perhaps for at least a month, this morning. Sanders, who missed the first five games of the season while completing his rehabilitation from offseason knee surgery, suffered the injury in last Sunday's win over San Francisco. He sought a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, a noted orthopedic surgeon in Birmingham, Ala., and it was determined surgery is required."
Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson look ready
"Lions running back Kevin Smith was back at practice Thursday after missing Wednesday's workout because of a shoulder injury he suffered in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to St. Louis. Both Smith and Maurice Morris took reps with the first-team offense in the portion of practice open to the media. Calvin Johnson continued to show no ill effects from the right knee injury that has sidelined him for the last two games. He worked with the first-team offense and certainly looked like he'll be ready for Sunday's game in Seattle. "We are just going to keep on taking it like we are," Johnson said. "We are going to be careful, do what I can do, and as long as I don't have any setbacks, things ..."
Broncos adding Law
"The Broncos moved to shore up their secondary Friday coming to terms with veteran cornerback Ty Law. Law, 35, has been named to five Pro Bowls. He has not played this season. Law did not return a message Friday, but is expected to formally sign a contract Saturday and join the team for meetings if he passes a physical. The Broncos had no comment and did not turn in a transaction to the league. It is unknown when the Broncos would be ready to put Law on the field. The Broncos play at home Monday night against Pittsburgh, then Nov. 15 in Washington. Law played seven games, starting six, for the Jets last season. He was with the New England Patriots for four of Broncos' coach Josh McDaniels' ..."
NOW wants Raiders coach Tom Cable suspended
"The National Organization for Women is calling for coach Tom Cable's suspension while the Raiders and the NFL investigate allegations that Cable physically abused his first wife more than 20 years ago and abused a former girlfriend in January. NOW president Terry O'Neill sent the request to USA Today. "Tom Cable's history of violence against women raises a question: Why is he still the head coach of an NFL team?" O'Neill's statement said in part. "Mr. Cable admits having battered his first wife, and he stands accused of battering two other intimate partners as well ... "The Oakland Raiders, properly, say they are undergoing a 'serious evaluation' of these recent allegations. At the very ..."
Jamal Lewis still plans to call it quits at season's end
"Bye weeks can be tough on coaches and GMs whose teams are floundering. But for players, a week without a game can be a relaxing tonic. Such is the case with running back Jamal Lewis. He returned to his locker Wednesday after tending to personal business in Atlanta. With the news-starved media horde anticipating more juice from perhaps the most respected man in the locker room, Lewis was in a reflective mood. After the game in Chicago, Lewis was so upset with yet another pathetic team performance that he declared this would be his last NFL season. Wednesday, he said he had planning to retire, anyway."
Devin Hester misses 2nd practice
"Another practice passed with Devin Hester standing on the sidelines with an ankle injury, but no one seemed overly concerned about the possibility of the Bears' top receiver missing Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Hester said he is looking forward to practicing Friday. In Hester's absence the Bears coaches were able to give Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu more practice reps, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. No secrets: An interesting dynamic exists whenever Bears coach Lovie Smith faces Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner because Smith was the defensive coordinator on Rams teams Warner quarterbacked for three years. Smith said he considers Warner a friend for life -- but they ..."
Colts' injury woes mount: Marlin Jackson, Anthony Gonzalez, Bob Sanders
"The Indianapolis Colts have placed cornerback Marlin Jackson on injured reserve and filled his roster spot by signing free agent defensive end Josh Thomas. The club also announced that on Thursday wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery to "clean out loose particles" and safety Bob Sanders visited Dr. James Andrews to get an opinion on the left elbow injury Sanders suffered on Sunday against San Francisco. Jackson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a non-contact drill on Wednesday and will require season-ending knee surgery. Jackson also suffered a season-ending knee injury during practice last year. Gonzalez aggravated his injury ..."
Cushing limited, Cody held out of Texans practice
"Defensive tackle Shaun Cody joined rookie linebacker Brian Cushing on the sidelines at Texans practice Thursday. Head coach Gary Kubiak said Cody received "an injection" for a back problem after missing Wednesday's workout. "I'm hoping he'll be able to practice tomorrow," Kubiak said. "We'll see. The back does concern us." Cushing, of course, has been limited in practice on a regular basis for several weeks now because of a sore foot. Not that it has mattered much, given that he has twice been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week since the injury occurred. "We're trying to get him through the bye (next week) clean and then he'll have time to rest his foot," Kubiak said. "We had him do ..."
Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder practices, hopes to play
"Miami Dolphins inside linebacker Channing Crowder practiced with limitations for the second straight day in nearly two weeks, and is optimistic he'll play in Sunday's 1 p.m. game against the New England Patriots. Crowder, one of the Dolphins' every down starting inside linebackers, missed last Sunday's win over the Jets because of a shoulder injury he suffered on Oct. 25th against the Saints. While Crowder, whose 22 tackles is fifth on the team, is practicing, and said he feels good physically, the team's being cautious with the former University of Florida standout. Reggie Torbor filled in for Crowder against the Jets, starting his second game as a Dolphin in two seasons, and contributed ..."
Man found guilty of shooting Jaguar Richard Collier
"A jury convicted Tyrone Romero Hartsfield of attempted first-degree murder Thursday evening in the shooting of former Jacksonville Jaguar Richard Collier. Hartsfield shook his head as the verdict was read, and his sister, sobbing, had to be led out of the courtroom. The defendant was also found guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. One day earlier, Hartsfield had emphatically and tearfully told jurors he is innocent. "I ain't shot nobody. That ain't me," he said. "… Y'all got an innocent man up here on the stand." But prosecutors accused Hartsfield of feigning his tears for sympathy and having "an explanation for everything." "You want to do any more crying before we get ..."
Ex-Falcon Hall disses Dimitroff
"Washington cornerback DeAngelo Hall, while speaking to the Washington media on Thursday, fired a shot at Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff. "I didn't trust Dimitroff at all," Hall said. "He lied to me several times. He promised me he was going to get something done [on a contract] and he's behind my back trying to shop me at the draft." In his first major move, Dimitroff traded Hall to the Oakland Raiders on March 7, 2008 for a second round and fifth round pick. Hall, a two-time Pro Bowler, with the Falcons was later cut by the Raiders and signed by the Redskins."
Jaguars game vs. Chiefs blacked out
"The Jaguars' home game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday is not a sellout and will be blacked out in the Jacksonville area and secondary markets, the team said this afternoon. The team could have requested a 24-hour extension, but did not. All of the Jaguars' home games have been blacked out so far this season. The Jaguars ticket office will be open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. through Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, and on 10 a.m. on Sunday."
