Fantasy Football Advice

Week 11 Start 'Em and Sit 'Em
"Start 'Em & Sit 'Em is our weekly look at the best and worst matchups from around the NFL and how they might affect lineup decisions for your Fantasy Football team. We are not in the business of stating the obvious, so you won't be reading here why you need to start Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson or any other top-tier players. Kevin Smith has been dealing with a sophomore slump. After a promising start to 2009, Smith has struggled. He had double digits in Fantasy points in three of his first four games and appeared on his way toward an outstanding season. But a shoulder injury and tough matchups against Pittsburgh, Green Bay and Minnesota has ruined his production the past five games. He ..."
Lineup calls: It's Beanie's time now
"The playoff chase in our glorious fantasy realm has officially begun. The dreaded bye weeks are a thing of the past, so all teams are back at full strength. Well, they're back at full strength in theory . The games of Week 10 saw player after player succumb to injury. Owners are still awaiting the final word on a number of tailbacks, including DeAngelo Williams for Thursday night, as well as Michael Turner and Brian Westbrook. We did get a definitive answer on Ronnie Brown, who's now officially out for the year with a foot injury. As a result of these injuries, fantasy owners have been combing the waiver wire to locate any possible help available for running back and Flex positions. We ..."
Down for the count
"From an injury standpoint, this fantasy season was gliding along about as smooth as a baby's bottom. The lack of injuries felt weird, like something was missing. But we didn't talk about it, kind of like when a pitcher is throwing a no-hitter. Then, of course, Week 10 hit and the diaper got very dirty. On Wednesday, we learned about the biggest casualty of the week and possibly the season. Ronnie Brown will miss the entire season with what is believed to be a Lisfranc fracture. That injury could threaten his status for 2010 training camp. Condolences to Ronnie and his owners, but no one is going to feel bad for you. Let's move on. Ricky Williams is the obvious beneficiary of this. After ..."
Reali-ty of Fantasy: After bad week, mark your bench
"So it happened. The Week Fantasy Spit You Out And Laughed. Stud injuries. A player taking a knee at the 1-yard-line. The fourth and 2 that launched a thousand points. In a word, catastrofail. And now one question: How much ya bench? If you've got Michael Turner, Cedric Benson, Ronnie Brown, Julius Jones, Brian Westbrook - we're about to find out. Your bench is deciding whether you make the playoffs or not. Regretting that lifelong devotion to jazzercise? Week 11StartersRicky Williams - no brainer of the week. The one backup you know is ready for his close-up. Running on the Panthers is like running on a treadmill. Start Ricky like it's 2001.LeSean McCoy - Three games as starter: 5.1 yards ..."
Wire Me This (IDP: Week 11)
"David Hawthorne gets my vote for IDP waiver wire pick-up of 2009 and it's guys like that, that can have a huge impact for your IDP squad. The work is still far from over as we head down the home stretch of the fantasy regular season. So, keep up with the injuries and the guys that are underperforming and here's a look at a few guys that can help your team: Defensive Linemen 1. Ray Edwards (MIN) 2. William Hayes (TEN) 3. Tommy Kelly (OAK) 4. Juqua Parker (PHI) 5. Aubrayo Franklin (SFO) Ray Edwards has been a monster on the Minnesota line as offensive lines key in on Jared Allen. Edwards in the past 2 weeks, has registed 4 sacks and 8 solo tackles. He's also been in on a forced fumble ..."
Backups now playing major roles
"Michael Turner. Julius Jones. Ronnie Brown. These are names on which fantasy owners have relied this season. Brown is out for the season, and the odds are against Turner and Jones playing in Week 11. The same is true of Brian Westbrook, Clinton Portis, Cedric Benson and Joseph Addai. Here is a ranking of the running backs who were backups a week or two ago but will play major roles for their teams this week: 1. Ricky Williams, Dolphins vs. Panthers Williams has been a decent back even while splitting time. With the Dolphins' strong run defense going against the Panthers' potent run game, Miami will have to rely on Williams' ability to be a workhorse. 2. LeSean McCoy, Eagles vs. Bears ..."

Waiver Wonders: Week 11
"A ton of injuries this week are going to force some previous Waiver Wonder players into the fantasy limelight. I'm sure LeSean McCoy is long gone in most leagues but it should go without saying that Brian Westbrook owners should be looking elsewhere for help. I think the ownership of Ladell Betts should be rising since Clinton Portis will miss an indefinite amount of time with a concussion. I would think the same goes for Ronnie Brown owners-- Ricky Williams gets a nice boost in his absence. Larry Johnson's release opens up a ton of opportunity for either Jamaal Charles or Kolby Smith. Charles seems to be the obvious choice here (18 attempts for 103 yards and a TD on Sunday). Justin ..."
NFL Week 11 Fantasy Fill-ins
"I've uncovered some guys you can plug in if you are dealing with an injury or tough matchups. Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants The bye week couldn't have come at a better time for the reeling G-Men. It gave them time to regroup and prepare to get back in the hunt. I like Eli this week going up against the Falcons' 28th ranked pass defense. Plus, with Michael Turner out, the Falcons shouldn't be able to control the clock as well. Ricky Williams, RB, Miami Dolphins Ricky has been a nice flex/RB2 option while sharing carries with Ronnie Brown. Now that Brown is sidelined with an ankle injury, Ricky becomes a low-end RB1/high-end RB2. Plus, he faces Carolina's 25th ranked run defense. Jamal ..."
Waiver review: Snelling running well
"The games of Week 11 allow us to celebrate the next phase of the fantasy season. We no longer have to worry about bye weeks. However, the members of the fantasy universe need to consider a myriad of injuries — some of them serious — and scour the wire for help. Needless to say, fantasy owners are despondent that they can't take the easy approach and look for the Lions' Week 11 opponent. That's right. The Lions face the equally hopeless Browns. Speaking of that, did any of you suffer through the Monday night debacle with me? I don't need to belabor the point. Let's break down this week's Baker's Dozen. Jason Snelling, RB, Atlanta Falcons Snelling shone in relief of an injured Michael ..."
Trend-spotting: Avery on the rise
"After he hauled in 53 catches for 674 yards and three scores in 2008 as the St. Louis Rams' No. 2 wide receiver, Donnie Avery became a very popular preseason sleeper. Fantasy owners couldn't help but be excited by Avery's potential as the 2009 season began, and his stock got a further bump following Torry Holt's departure from the Gateway City, as the second-year receiver was elevated to the Rams' No. 1 wide receiver slot. That potential evaporated instantly and almost completely when Avery suffered a stress fracture in his foot in mid-August, causing him to miss the rest of the preseason. Flash forward to today, more than three full months since the injury. Avery is back and staking a ..."
D-Bo Knocked Out
"Two weeks ago, the desperate Chiefs grabbed veteran Chris Chambers off waivers and paired him with Dwayne Bowe in hopes of jumpstarting an anemic aerial attack. Just as coach Todd Haley's beleaguered receiving corps was starting show tangible signs of progress, the Chiefs announced Tuesday that Bowe will be suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. ESPN's Adam Schefter "gathers" that the suspension goes back to OTAs when Bowe, 30 pounds overweight, took a diuretic to drop the pounds expeditiously. The new coach "demoted Bowe, bullied him, disparaged him, embarrassed him" to get a message across to his most talented receiver as well as the ..."
Rookie Report: Nov. 18, 2009
"There was a lot of news going on this week. First, the Cincinnati Bengals picked Larry Johnson off the waiver wire. With Cedric Benson nursing a hip injury Johnson's signing might be the right call. Dick Jauron also got canned but I think the writing was on the wall. Getting fired in Week 11 is unusual but his 24-33 career Buffalo Bills coaching record was apparently enough for owner Ralph Wilson. The Bills never had a winning season under Jauron and Terrell Owens is clearly a non-factor. Jauron is well respected around the league but he may not get another head coach gig. Defensive coordinator positions or college coaching opportunities might be Jauron's next stop. Top Four ..."
Top 10 waiver claims for Week 11
"Looking for help to boost scoring at running back or wide receiver? Past recommendations of mine have helped fantasy teams clinch victories with various upgrades. These include quarterbacks Joe Flacco, David Garrard and Kyle Orton; running backs Ladell Betts, Jamaal Charles, Justin Forsett, Laurence Maroney, LeSean McCoy, Ryan Moats, Chris Wells and Ricky Williams; wide receivers Michael Crabtree, Lee Evans, Devery Henderson, Jeremy Maclin, Robert Meachem, Hakeem Nicks, Sidney Rice, Eddie Royal and Mike Wallace; tight ends Vernon Davis, Spencer Havner, Todd Heap, Marcedes Lewis and Tony Scheffler; and defenses/special teams Arizona, Indianapolis, New England, San Diego and Seattle. Fantasy Football Pitfalls – Week 11
"I'm going to look at the matchups each week and pick five fantasy starters that could be in for a tough week. Here's a look at players who could struggle this week. Matt Ryan, QB, Atlanta Falcons Matt faces the Giants on the road this week. The G-Men are coming off a bye and will be trying to stop the bleeding of a four-game losing streak. Ryan will likely be without Michael Turner to keep the Giants honest. It could be a long day for Ryan, who historically has struggled against the NFC East. Games against NFC East: 3 QB Rating: 70.4 (lowest against any division) Yards per game: 203.3 (second lowest behind NFC North) TD/INT: 5-5 Fantasy Points per game: 13.36 Thomas Jones, RB, New ..."
Wouldn't it be great if ...
"He gets it. When Maurice Jones-Drew took a knee at the 1-yard line in the waning minutes of the Jaguars' game against the New York Jets on Sunday, he knew exactly what he was doing. He was doing as his coaches instructed, which is to be commended. He also knew he was sending his millions of fantasy owners into frenzied what-might-have-been wailing. He addressed it after the game. "Sorry to my fantasy owners," Jones-Drew said. "They [the coaches] told me to get as close as I can and take a knee." I love this. I'll leave the "great, selfless play or stupid play that they are lucky they didn't botch the field goal" debate to others and focus more on what MJD said after the game. I love that ..."
Waiver Wire: A critical week on the wire
"Bernard Scott could become a popular Fantasy option this week. The same goes for Jason Snelling and Justin Forsett. With so many key injuries at running back heading into Week 11, some players you might never have heard of could be on your roster and even starting. Making the right moves on the waiver wire will be important with the Fantasy playoffs looming. It appears like Brian Westbrook (concussion), Ronnie Brown (foot), Julius Jones (ribs) and Michael Turner (ankle) are likely out for Week 11. Cedric Benson (hip) is questionable, and Clinton Portis (concussion), who missed Week 10, remains questionable as well. That means Fantasy owners could be missing six running backs who have at ..."
Week 10 disappointments
"Am I asking too much by placing Adrian Peterson at the head of this piece? After all, Peterson did dominate the Lions for 133 yards and two touchdowns. However, he also lost two fumbles inside the red zone. Fantasy owners will take the points and move on to next week. One player who can't escape the negativity this weekend (I'll have a lengthy diatribe against the Dallas coaching staff at another time) is Tony Romo, who completed 24-of-39 attempts for 251 yards with one touchdown, one interception and a lost fumble. The inconsistent Green Bay pass rush also came to life against the injured Dallas offensive line and sacked him five times. I still just want to know what was happening when ..."
Situational Disaster
"This Browns offense is terrible. To ask a rookie to step onto that team and produce any kind of numbers is asking way too much. So before we call Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie terrible draft picks, let's realize that if they were playing for the Colts or Eagles they very well might be putting up nice stats. We can also say with fair certainty that Massaquoi would be having a better season if Braylon Edwards was never traded, but that's a whole other story. Of course, rookie receivers rarely have a big impact right away. We're looking for any signs of potential, any nuggets to nibble on for the future. Since last night's game was so painful to watch, let's take a step back and update ..."
Through The Wire - Week 11
"Quarterbacks Off The Top Eli Manning, NYG (ATL, @DEN, DAL, PHI) – Manning is only available in about 10 percent of leagues, but it's possible somebody was forced to drop him heading into the weekend because of his bye. He should rebound from a few poor games with a good performance against the Falcons. Digging Deeper Vince Young, TEN (@HOU, ARI, @IND, STL) – He's not recommended in anything but the deepest of leagues, but Young has the Titans playing their best football of the season and could have a fantasy impact down the stretch. In Week 11, he faces a Houston defense that looked better and better in the weeks leading up to the bye. Matt Hasselbeck, SEA (@MIN, @STL, SF, @HOU) – Since ..."
Waiver Wire: RB - Week 11
"If you are serious about winning your fantasy league football championship, stay on top of your fantasy football team throughout the year. Each week during the NFL fantasy football season, KFFL brings you its Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, which breaks down players to pick up. Be aggressive when picking up fantasy football free agents. Even if you do not need a player, you can tuck him away for depth or block others from adding him to their fantasy football team. Note: Percentage of polled leagues in which player is available in parentheses Fantasy football free agents: Priority additions The following players should be high on your radar and are worthy of being added immediately to your ..."
Fantasy & Reality: A few feet and a knee
"And you thought you had tough decisions to make about your team! Everyone is buzzing about Bill Belichick's decision to go for it on fourth and 2 on the Patriots own 28, up by six points on the Colts with a smidge over two minutes to play on Sunday night. Whether the Patriots converted or not, this very play will wind up being the crossroads of the season for both franchises with repercussions felt all the way to the Fantasy Football universe. I understand why Belichick went for it -- anyone with half a football in his or her head would realize that the Patriots would have put the game on ice with the conversion. Like a team that opts to run 30-plus times against the Colts, keeping Peyton ..."
First Response: Adding insult to injury
"Larry Johnson might find a job after all with all the star running backs who got hurt in Week 10. It was like doomsday for a Fantasy owner. It started with Cedric Benson (hip), Michael Turner (ankle) and Ronnie Brown (ankle) in the early games, and then Julius Jones (broken rib) and Brian Westbrook (concussion) went down in the afternoon. None were able to finish the game, and all the injuries should be considered serious heading into Week 11. Here are the updates heading into Monday: Benson, who had seven carries for 22 yards at Pittsburgh before getting hurt, probably has the best chance of playing next week at Oakland. He told the Bengals official team web site that the injury wasn't to ..."
Get 'em or Don't Sweat 'em Week 10
"There were some unusual heroes on Sunday. There always are. Let's take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters. Jason Snelling, RB, Atlanta Falcons Depending on how bad Michael Turner's ankle injury will determine whether or not you'll want to get Snelling. For now, put a waiver claim in for him, but keep a tab on Turner's status. Ruling: Get 'em. Ladell Betts, RB, Washington Redskins If for some reason nobody added him last week because he plays for the sorry Redskins, obviously you should snatch him up. He ran for 114 yards and a score against a once tough Broncos team. Bernard Scott, RB, Cincinnati Bengals Like Snelling, you'll have to keep tabs on the RB he ..."
Instant Replay: Is it still Friday the 13th?
"I've entered an interesting time in my 2-year-old son's development. He's finally in that curious-about-pain stage. (You parents out there likely know just what I'm talking about.) For example, say he bumps his head, even lightly, on the coffee table. He'll immediately spout an all-too-familiar phrase: "Owwwch, Daddy. Kiss make better?" Fortunately, one kiss to the forehead always does "make better," whether the injury was significant or not. As I look back at Week 10 in the NFL, I can't help thinking to myself how nice it would be if a simple kiss to the forehead really could "make better" every injury. Because let's just say it was a rough week on the injury front, one that is going to ..."
Week 10 takeaways: Key RBs pick up injuries
"Not a happy week for some of you big name RB owners out there. Let's get right to the review. 49ers 10, Bears 6 • Jay Cutler was about as good and bad as a quarterback can be in the same game. The 307 passing yards were nice, but the five interceptions were incredibly costly. It's a minor miracle that the Bears had a chance to win that game, but it ended with (what else?) a Cutler pick. • Matt Forte's fantasy value is pretty simple to figure out. He excels against terrible run defenses while struggling mightily against those which are simply ordinary, never mind elite. • Frank Gore's beastly games like this (104 yards, one touchdown) come every so often, but then he kind of disappears and ..."
Out of This World
"With just three weeks remaining in the fantasy regular season, it's make or break time for fantasy owners, as every yard and meaningless touchdown suddenly become meaningful – Maurice Jones-Drew, I do not accept your apology. With that said, here are this week's highs and lows, as the stars definitely came out to play in Week 10. Top 5 Quarterbacks: 1. Peyton Manning – 327 Pass Yds, 4 TDs, 2 INTs – Manning capped off an unbelievable finish to an unbelievable game by hitting his favorite target, Reggie Wayne, on a slant route with 13 seconds left. After only throwing for one touchdown in the past two weeks, Peyton got back on track and then some. 2. Tom Brady – 375 Pass Yds, 3 TDs, 1 INT – ..."
Week 11 Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose
"QUARTERBACKS — CUT THEM LOOSE Kyle Orton (Denver Broncos) Yes, Kyle Orton managed 15 fantasy points in less than a half of play on Sunday, throwing for 193 yards and 2 TDs against the Washington Redskins. Fantasy owners, though, need to be aware that Orton's day ended early because the quarterback suffered an ankle injury. The length Orton will be out due to the injury is unknown. What is known is that Orton suffered a similar injury last season while playing for the Chicago Bears. The injury may have only kept Orton out one contest last year, but his play was never the same upon his return. In the seven games Orton played following the injury, he completed just 54.7% of his passes for a ..."
The Closer
"#5. Saints 28 Rams 23 Beyond the Box Score * Marc Bulger threw an interception in the first quarter while trying to hit Keenan Burton in the end zone. He now has as many interceptions as he does touchdowns and it seems like most of his turnovers come at critical times. * Drew Brees was held to 95 yards in the first half and finished with a six-week low 233 passing yards. He threw a few excellent deep balls, but it's still disappointing that he wasn't able to carve up the lowly Rams. * Reggie Bush exhibited a few of his signature leaps and cutback moves on the way to tallying a season-high 83 rushing yards. He also found the end zone twice, bumping his season-long total to six. * The Saints ..."
Post-game Injury Report - Week 10
"Quarterback QB | Kyle Orton | Denver Broncos | Injury News, Fantasy The Associated Press reports Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ankle) was 11-for-18 for 193 yards with two touchdown passes Week 10 against the Washington Redskins. Orton limped to the locker room after suffering an ankle injury and was replaced by QB Chris Simms, who went 3-for-13 for 13 yards and an interception in the game. Running Back RB | Chad Simpson | Indianapolis Colts | Injury News CBSSports.com reports Indianapolis Colts RB Chad Simpson (head) left the team's Week 10 game with a head injury and is questionable to return. RB | Julius Jones | Seattle Seahawks | Injury News, Fantasy Updating a previous item, ESPN's ..."
Infirmary Report
"Quarterbacks QUESTIONABLE Kyle Orton (Ankle), Denver Broncos Broncos QB Kyle Orton left for the Broncos' locker room early before halftime after falling awkwardly on his ankle and did not return to the game. Orton came up hobbling on a scramble right before halftime and the injury didn't appear to be very serious but his left ankle was heavily taped when he returned to the sidelines for the 2nd half. Orton was having a great day before suffering the ankle injury, going 11-for-18 for 193 yards with two touchdown passes. The Broncos and, more importantly, Brandon Marshall owners need Kyle Orton to get healthy soon or their season might take a turn for the worse. Backup Chris Simms was ..."
Will Freeman emerge as the top rookie passer?
"Sammie Stroughter is just a rookie himself, but the Tampa Bay wide receiver can already see that quarterback Josh Freeman has the chance to be a star. It only took one game. In Week 9, Freeman made his first NFL start against Green Bay. He helped the Buccaneers get their first win of the season by completing 14 of 31 passes for 205 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, and he had four carries for 20 yards. Stroughter is looking forward to seeing what Freeman can do next. "I call him the quiet assassin," Stroughter said. "He's one of those guys – when he's in there he wants to take care of business." Freeman's work has just started, but he has a long way to go to be a standout ..."
Week 10 Fantasy Studs
"Before I start, I would like to say sorry to all the Buccaneers fans. Not for the Lee Roy Selmon's recommendation, but for saying you should leave the game. If you didn't follow my advice, you saw a very exciting game which happened to be your team's first win. This past week was one of my best this season as Matt Hasselbeck, Kellen Winslow, Ryan Succop and the Falcons defense all had solid games. Hopefully I can keep the positive momentum going this week. QB: Chad Henne vs Buccaneers: Even without a go-to-guy, Henne has put up some solid numbers this season. His touchdown numbers haven't been very impressive but that should change against a Bucs defense that has allowed 18 on the year. ..."
Luck gets you only so far
"Someone asked me recently if there was luck involved with fantasy football. My answer: Sort of. When a guy doesn't show up to the draft and needs another person in the league to draft for him, and the no-show guy ends up with Miles Austin in the second-to-last round, and Austin comes out of nowhere to be the top wide receiver in fantasy football (this happened in my league), that's luck."
Change is constant for performers
"It's long been accepted that gambling on the NFL is on par with splitting the atom or controlling the weather. This season, it seems predicting the performance of the league's top fantasy players on a weekly basis is an equally impossible task. One Sunday, Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner throws five interceptions. The next week, he throws for five touchdowns — at Chicago, no less. While most of the names at the top of the fantasy points list this season are predictable, their weekly performances have not been, which has led to plenty of balanced leagues."
History Lessons: Breaking down Pats-Colts
"Here we go again. Beginning in 2003, the Patriots and Colts have met every single regular season and in three postseasons. There have been close games, there have been blowouts. Winning streaks seem to be typical. And both teams had to beat each other to get to their Super Bowls (New England in 2003 and 2004, Indianapolis in 2006). It's a series ripe with history. The main event, as always, is the Patriots' Bill Belichick-schemed defense vs. the Colts' Peyton Manning-schemed offense. Generally, the winner has been Belichick as Manning has only three 300-yard games and four outings with at least two passing touchdowns in the nine-game span. Like the Colts' luck against the Patriots, ..."
Lineup calls: Cassel's lighting it up
"Shout it from the rooftops. Set your lineups early! Those pesky Thursday night games have returned! On Thursday, NFL fans and fantasy owners will welcome Thursday football back onto the radar. The enigmatic Bears will travel to San Francisco to kick off the four-week race into the fantasy playoffs (for most of you, anyway). Jay Cutler and the offense have performed well in spots, but what happened to the defense? Will seeing a lean and mean Mike Singletary on the other sideline inspire this unit? As for the 49ers, isn't it only appropriate that Patrick Willis plays for Singletary? What about Alex Smith? Have the 49ers found their long-term quarterback, or is that guy still enjoying the ..."
Sharing the misery
"Week 10 Players I Love Devin Hester, WR, Bears: Ah, the Thursday game. I remember last season, on Fridays, if the players I liked in a Thursday game would perform poorly, the message board would light up with insults. And if I nailed it -- I remember a pretty good call about Jabar Gaffney on a Thursday -- then there were messages about my cheating and posting it after the game. This is what you call a "can't-win" proposition. Anyway, you're obviously starting Cutler and Olsen, but I like Hester here; he has quietly turned into one of the most consistent fantasy wide receivers in the game. Matt Forte, RB, Bears: I tend to like guys on short weeks; less time for the defense to prepare and ..."
Williams on the run again
"DeAngelo Williams is on one of those streaks. And when we say "those streaks," we are of course referring to the epic run that won fantasy leagues last season. Over his last four games, Williams is averaging 137 rushing yards and 1 ¼ touchdowns with a gaudy 6.08 yards per carry mark. Wowzers. He's held off Jonathan Stewart with ease (149 carries vs. 87 on the season) and is even getting 44.7 % of the Red Zone carrries, as Brad Morgan told us in Wednesday's report. This proves that last year was no fluke -- Williams is an elite back and a better all-around runner than Stewart. If nothing else, we thought there would be a natural statistical regression off 2008. But Williams is on pace for ..."

Stats don't lie, even in fantasy
"Something you might not know about me: I like stats. Stats are good. Stats are right. Stats work. And stats - you mark my words - will not only save your fantasy season, but they'll save that other malfunctioning corporation called the USofA. (Let's start with the fantasy season and get to the fixing-the-country part later.) Not too late but getting late early. The playoffs are the goal, and you need some tweaking lest you be tardy for the party. You don't need to get a new fantasy. You just need a fantasy that gets you. Here's the solution. Players to target based on statistical evidence I've gathered over the first nine weeks of the season (or guys I like from here on out): Ben ..."
Good teams pave way for solid fantasy stats
"As it turns out, it's not just picking up good players that wins fantasy football leagues. Almost as important is having players on winning teams. Sounds simple enough. Surprising, though, is how much of a difference it has made for running backs and wide receivers in 2009. Of the NFL's top 40 in receiving yards-per-game, only five play for losing teams. In 2008, only nine of the top 40 played on losing teams. At the same time, only one of 2009's top 24 pass-catchers in fantasy points (San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis) plays for a losing team. In 2008, those numbers were only five of the top 29. Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck is the quarterback on a losing team who has thrown for the ..."
Waiver review: Pick up Royal again?
"Fantasy owners are celebrating the end of bye weeks. Sure, there are two teams on bye this week, but the number of players taken off the board because of the schedule is far smaller than in any week in the recent past. Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub owners will miss that electric combination. Owners of pretty much anybody else on those squads can do without the head-scratching that has become such a part of those investments. Steve Slaton, Brandon Jacobs, Kevin Walter or the Giants defense, anyone? Of course, at this stage of the season, we must also account for a myriad of injuries, ranging from the seemingly innocuous to quite severe. Two backs who are no strangers to the injury list but ..."
Fantasy Football on Target - Week 10
"For those of you that haven't sold the Dallas Cowboys' Miles Austin yet, the 'Boys "No. 2" wideout was looked at only four times last week. This was overshadowed by his 49-yard touchdown reception - his ONLY reception of the game. He faced double coverage for the first time this year. KFFL.com's Nicholas Minnix advocated selling high on the Cowboys wideout a couple of weeks ago; do so now while you still have the chance. Which Dallas receiver should we be talking about? Roy Williams. He was looked at eight times (for the second straight week) and the ball actually hit him this time. He finished with five receptions for 75 yards. Romo and Williams put in extra work after practice last week ..."
Sweepstakes or Sleepstakes?
"Troubled ex-Chiefs running back Larry Johnson cleared waivers Tuesday, instigating a largely anti-climactic "LJ Sweepstakes" by the national media. It's not often that fantasy football enthusiasts operate one step ahead of the insiders paid to know what comes next, but this situation is different. While LJ's name brings an obvious national cache, he offers little attraction for fantasy leaguers or NFL GMs at this stage of his career. When I conducted the free Rotoworld chat Tuesday afternoon, the most common question was, "Where will Larry Johnson end up, and what will be his fantasy value in his new home." The most sensible answer was, "On his couch, and bubkes, zilch, nada, zot." While ..."
Family Feud
"The first two-headed RB attack that I remember -- granted I'm only 20 -- was Ron Dayne along with Tiki Barber, whose forces combined to create the legendary "Thunder and Lightning" in 2000. At the time the committee backfield was born out of necessity, not creative genius. Tiki was an unknown but intriguing commodity with just 114 carries in his previous two 32 games. Dayne was just coming off a storied college career, but at 5-10 and upwards of 250 pounds many questioned whether he would be quick enough to be an effective NFL RB. Although this tandem proved good enough to get to a Super Bowl, together they were never quite able to live up to their billing as the two coolest parts of a ..."
Wire Me This (IDP: Week 10)
"The weeks will begin earlier now that Thursday Night Football has begun, so you're going to need to hit the wire a bit sooner than normal. I know this article is coming a tad late but, here are some last minute looks at some IDPs that could help your squad down the stretch of the season: Defensive Linemen 1. Dwan Edwards (BAL) 2. William Hayes (TEN) 3. Jay Ratliff (DAL) 4. Tyson Jackson (KCC) 5. Robert Ayers (DEN) Dwan Edwards has passed Trevor Pryce on the depth chart as the starting left defensive end. He registered 8 total tackles against the Bengals. He has a favorable match-up with the Browns and has big upside the rest of the season. William Hayes has stepped up on the defensive ..."
You Look FAABulous
"After this weekend all the bye replacement movement will be over and teams will be looking ahead to concentrate on winning their league or getting their teams ready for the playoffs (including consolation brackets or toilet bowls – HEY you essentially have a free entry for a new contest with rewards that mean Something, so don't just flip them off – they can save your season….and give you some more FUN). I strongly suggest that you try and get ahead of your competition and look ahead now. LOOK at your roster and circle the "key" players – likely to be in your lineup every week. Then judge how many roster spots you have to "play with". I know for many of you that is none – I play in some ..."

Week 10 Fantasy Fill-ins
"I've uncovered some guys you can plug in if you are dealing with an injury or tough matchups. Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seattle Seahawks Seattle will have to throw plenty to keep up with Arizona on the road. Arizona has the 29th ranked pass defense, which works in Hasselbeck's favor. In his last four starts against the Cardinals, he's averaged 208.8 yards per game, 5 rushing yards, 1.5 TDs, and 1 INT. Not great numbers, but good for a 14.94 fantasy point average. Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ers They play the early game so you'll have to decide early to roll with Smith. He takes on the Bears that have allowed 10 TDs the past two weeks (I don't count the Browns). Ricky Williams, RB, Miami ..."
Breaking down Bears at 49ers
"Thursday Night Football returns to the schedule this week, with the Bears visiting the 49ers in Mike Singletary's first game coaching against the team he played for. What should fantasy players be looking for in this matchup? Here's a look at the most intriguing players on each side... Bears running back Matt Forte continues to post disappointing rushing numbers, even though his 33 yards on five carries on Sunday against Arizona did represent his second-best per-carry average (6.6 yards) of the season. And in four road games this season, Forte has run 67 times for 168 yards (2.5 per carry) and no touchdowns. But in the last four weeks, Forte has become more of a threat in Chicago's passing ..."
