Fantasy Football Advice

Fbkid's Week 9 Predictions
"Last week was a solid week for my predictions but it was filled with ups and downs. While my Texans vs Bills and Cowboys vs Seahawks picks were right on the money, I missed badly with my Jaguars vs Titans and Panthers vs Cardinals picks. Hopefully my week 9 picks can me more consistent. Game of the weak: Chiefs vs Jaguars: On a week where neither the Browns or Raiders play, it's hard to find a game for this category but if you have to choose, this would be the one."
Pilfering Pierre
"It's not every year that a fantasy football owner can pour over the schedule down the stretch and come up with the perfect trade target. The one time I can remember pulling it off to a rousing success was 2000. Thumbing through an issue of the now-defunct Fantasy Football Weekly magazine at lunchtime, I stumbled upon Fred Taylor's dream schedule from Week 9 through the end of the fantasy playoffs. The light bulb flipped on immediately, and I orchestrated trades for Fragile Fred in all of my leagues. The reward was the best eight-game stretch of Taylor's career, posting 11 touchdowns while averaging 144 yards per week to close out the season. While there isn't a back with that same perfect ..."
Rare-Owned Un-Refined RB Louis Rankin - week 9
"The 2009 Fantasy Football Season is showing itself as one that has been extremely stingy with injuries to key RBs. Some owners employed a tactical strategy, on draft day, of waiting until the later rounds to secure high potential backup RBs and/or handcuff RBs in anticipation of the routine rash of RB injuries. In most leagues, these are the owners quickly watching their season dissipate. The result should be that a flock of owners will start to go into red alert desperation mode. Unfortunately, there isn't much new information germinating on overlooked hidden options. The market is backlogged due to the continued health and consistency of the original advertised frontline studs. As an ..."
Deep sleepers for Week 9
"Need last-minute help? Look at these emerging players or overlooked veterans to start: QB: David Garrard, Jacksonville: Kansas City ranks as the league's fifth-worst pass defense and has allowed the fourth-most passing scores (13). Garrard has shown he could be very productive against a shaky defense when he threw for 323 yards and three scores at home against Tennessee in Week 4. QB: Matt Cassel, Kansas City: The Jaguars rank in the bottom quarter of pass defenses and have yielded the fourth-most passing scores (13). Cassel travels to Jacksonville aiming for his fourth contest of multiple passing scores. RB: Correll Buckhalter, Denver: Pittsburgh ranks as the top rushing defense, but is ..."
Fantasy Football News & Notes
"Football is a violent sport, especially when it is played at the NFL level. The viciousness of the game is part of what has made many of us fans. Baseball may have the moniker of America's Pastime, but football is the greatest sport in the world. Football has all the beauty of a ballet (well my wife says ballets are beautiful anyway) and the violence of a car accident - and you all know you slow down at a car accident to see what kind of damage has been done. One problem that occurs in such a violent game is injuries. Injuries are not only a problem when they happen to key players on your favorite NFL team, they can be a major problem when they happen to key players on your fantasy ..."
Kamke's Korner - Fantasy Playoff Preparation
"Week 8 has come and gone, leaving just five more weeks for most fantasy football leagues. This week's column is going to be shorter than usual and it also targets a specific group of fantasy owners: owners whose teams are at 8-0, 7-1, and 6-2. Basically, this column is for owners who have pretty much locked up a playoff spot already. To those of you at or below .500 (like Bruno Boys Ziza), this column isn't going to help you as much as my previous columns have. If your team is sitting at 8-0, 7-1, or 6-2, you have an incredible advantage and opportunity you may not realize. While your opponents are fighting for a playoff spot, you can start preparing for the playoffs and laying the ..."
McCullough's Musings - Week 9
"The whole NFL bye week thing is almost done after Week 9. There are only two teams off next week (Texans, Giants), but there are another six teams off this week. Namely, the Bills, Browns, Raiders, Rams, Vikings, and Jets. Once you've dealt with this week's assortment of missing players, making out your weekly lineups for the remainder of the schedule should get much easier. We've got four of the worst bad teams out this week, so there won't be as many creampuff match ups as there have been in other weeks, but don't despair. There are several terrific games in which you can exploit a severe misbalance of talent. With that in mind, let's get right to it, shall we? Titans @ 49ers This is a ..."
The All-Out Blitz - Vol. 8
"Aggressiveness is a characteristic that tends to reward fantasy owners more times than not. In the NFL, an offensive line will sometimes hold up long enough to give the quarterback enough time to beat man coverage down the field and make the defense look foolish against a fierce pass rush. More often than not, though, when a defense brings the heat and forces the action, crisis management becomes the name of the game for the opposing team. In that same vein, I hope to apply that same kind of pressure to the owners in all of my leagues by beating my opponents to the punch in regards to personnel moves. Sometimes, reaching a conclusion about a player too quickly is much like trying to blitz ..."
Analyzing The Experts
"Continuing with our Expert interviews, I selected Football Guys and AOL Fanhouse at random and not really expecting much cooperation from either of them. Pay sites are notoriously grumpy about people criticizing their results and AOL is one of those corporate sites that doesn't provide contact information for anyone. The response I received was, in a word, unexpected. I was amazed at how defensive and combative some of our Experts can be when forced into a corner and asked to explain themselves. I know I can be a real ass, but come on guys. You spend your days analyzing fantasy football. I love football too, but it's important to keep things in perspective. You write about a hobby that is ..."
The Shot Caller's Report - QBs
"Each week when compiling this report, I take into consideration not only the individual players mentioned, but also the state of their teams and their opponents, team schedules, historical player performance, inclement weather (when applicable), and of course, injuries. This is a dynamic, stat-driven article that aims to assist you in making the right roster decisions for your fantasy squad. Your feedback is important to me, so please keep the emails coming. RB committee update: Lions' Smith gets some company
"Welcome to the latest edition of our fantasy backfield committee update, which will help you understand what's going on in the Shanahan-created world of running back tandems. The four "worry levels" — High, Medium, Low and Non-Existent — are subject to change on a weekly basis and completely, subjectively determined by the humble fantasy analyst who writes this article. If you have any comments, insight, etc., please post a comment below. Under the most recent week and for the season, the player order goes according to who got the most touches. The Bills, Raiders, Browns, Rams, Jets and Vikings have byes in Week 9."
The Airing of Grievances
"Halfway through the Fantasy Football season, I think it's appropriate to take a look back at the year so far. I'm sure this isn't the first article of such type you've read this week, but I assure you this will be different, for better or worse. When I think about which players have been as good as advertised, shockingly good, and surprisingly bad, one holiday comes to mind: Festivus. For those not familiar -- or obsessed -- with the show Seinfeld, I'll give a little background on this tradition. It is, essentially, a non-denominational holiday to be celebrated by those frustrated or jaded with the commercialism and pressure surrounding the Christmas/Hanukkah season. For our purposes, we ..."
Full Disclosure: Saturday night special
"While the majority of you spend your Saturdays going out, getting together with friends, maybe watching some college football or generally having fun, I'm in front of my computer. This isn't to say I'm some sort of geek. Okay, I probably am a geek, but when I say I'm on the computer I'm talking like 20 or 30 minutes, not all night long. I am married with children after all (not that that dismisses me from being a geek). Saturdays are when I finalize my Fantasy lineups. But I'll also do something that you might not do when you set your lineups: I check the waiver wire at every position to see if I can make a last-minute improvement to my roster. Last week, it made the difference between ..."
Week 9 Start 'Em and Sit 'Em
"Donovan McNabb seems to never get the respect he deserves. From the time he was drafted in 1999 and booed on stage to Fantasy owners not trusting him 100 percent, McNabb always appears overlooked and undervalued as a great quarterback. I'm guilty of it also. I had McNabb listed as a sit quarterback last week for his matchup against the Giants. He didn't play well the previous two games against Oakland and Washington, and I thought he was headed for another bad game. McNabb came out against New York and passed for 240 yards and three touchdowns with a lost fumble, which was his third game with at least 20 Fantasy points this season of the five games he's played. Still, McNabb has yet to ..."
Westbrook looking better for Week 9
"Usually we don't get much information from the teams that are on bye weeks as they quietly rest their injured players and give everyone some much-needed downtime. That said, there are a few interesting tidbits from a couple of teams who are not playing in Week 9. While there is other news swirling among the Oakland Raiders, fantasy owners might want to note that running back Darren McFadden has returned to practice for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in October to address a torn meniscus. The Oakland Tribune reports that McFadden practiced without experiencing any setbacks. Of course, the all-important test is how the knee responds in subsequent days. If McFadden ..."
QB, thy shalt not sit thyself!
"This is not my story. And even better, it's been told before, most recently on "Fantasy Football Now," the show we do every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET on both ESPN.com and ESPN2. But we all know I'm going to disappoint you at some point in the column, so why not get it out of the way right at the top? But I love this story, so I'm going to tell it again. And it starts like this … So my fellow FF Now (that's what the cool kids call it) analyst Tim Hasselbeck is in a fantasy football league this year with, among other folks, his brother, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. It should shock no one that Matt went QB-heavy with his team, drafting not only himself but also his former ..."
Bad teams are filled with flops this season
"You can uncover your eyes, Bills fans, the team is off this week. So are three more terrible teams in the Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns. The fantasy contributions of players on those teams won't be missed. Add in Tampa Bay, Detroit, Kansas City, Washington and Tennessee and that makes nine teams with a combined 12 wins. With rare exceptions, that means more than one quarter of the teams have minimal fantasy value, a remarkable number in a 32-team league. Here's a look at some of the fantasy contributions from some of those who lag behind. • Tennessee Titans: Running back Chris Johnson is the ultimate exception. He leads the NFL in rushing yards with 824, thanks ..."
Start Em, Sit Em and Sleepers Week 9
"Before I get to this weeks picks I want to share a new rule I've made as a result of last weeks picks; never pick the Arizona D as a start. Man what a disaster. They were playing so well and against decent teams. Crazy how Carolina just came in and rolled up on them. Live and learn I guess. Also this week, I have a few things I wanted to tell you about other than the usual start sit stuff. A few fantasy blogger friends of mine are promoting a a few things you may be interested in. Make sure you check that out the "Around The Web" section (below) before you go because you could win a $50 gift certificate. OK, so lets get to it. Start em if you got em… Dwayne Bowe WR (KC) - I think he is a ..."
History Lessons: The Schaub must go on
"Matt Schaub has never experienced a game in Houston without Owen Daniels as a target. He also hasn't played in a game against the Colts since September of 2007. In Week 9, he'll get to experience them both -- no Daniels, and his first meeting with Indy in two years. Losing Daniels was a huge blow to the Houston offense. Forty of Schaub's 188 completions and 519 of Schaub's 2,342 passing yards went to Daniels this season -- just more than 20 percent of his totals. And five of his 16 touchdowns (31.3 pct.) were with Daniels on the other end. Replacing Daniels in the Houston lineup is Joel Dreessen, a career 9.0 yards per catch tight end known more for blocking and long snapping than ..."
Charles in charge?
"Jamaal Charles has never really had a chance. When Larry Johnson was suspended last season because of "Spitgate," Kolby Smith got the majority of the work. With Smith on the PUP list and L.J. sputtering this season, Charles remained a strict reserve despite a 5.3 yards per carry mark for his career (Johnson is getting 2.7 yards per carry this season). That's all about to change. Ever since Charles was a healthy scratch in Week 2, Todd Haley has had nothing but good things to say about his second-year back. Last week, Haley said that Charles is "starting to get it" and that Charles is "growing on him." Haley raved about Charles' blitz pickups, saying "he's probably our best pass protector ..."
Waiver review: Floyd takes over for Chambers
"The byes of Week 8 decimated more than a few fantasy lineups. The losses of Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer forced owners to seek other quarterback options. Obviously, a host of running backs and wide receivers were off the board as well, leaving owners to dig deep and toss a few "Hail Mary" passes of their own. Did you survive? The efforts of Michael Turner, DeAngelo Williams and Steven Jackson aided the cause. Steve Slaton and a number of other would-be heroes let you down. Slaton's benching is one of the topics up for discussion this week, and that's where we begin the Week 9 trip to the wire. Former Eagles draft pick Ryan Moats leads the way. Ryan Moats, RB, Houston ..."
Trend-spotting: Trust in Hightower
"While Beanie Wells might be considered the back of the future for the Arizona Cardinals, Tim Hightower should still be viewed as the back you want for the rest of the season. Hightower, while not as physically gifted as Wells, is the much better receiver of the duo. In Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, Hightower was targeted 10 times, an amazing stat for a running back. Equally as important were the three carries given to Hightower inside the Panthers' 10-yard line; Wells received no carries in that situation. Going forward, Hightower will continue to hold the fantasy production edge as the Cardinals play an extremely favorable schedule when it comes to opponents' pass defense. ..."
Waiver Wonders: Week 9
"I hate Brett Favre. I'm not saying he's a bad person or anything but I can't stand the media circus that surrounds him. Or the media attention that he seems to want to generate. "I'm retiring". Tears. "I'm not retiring I'm going to play for the Jets". Major sports media every where covers the event. "I'm retiring again. This time for good." Tears. Media "uncovers" that Favre has rented an apartment in Minnesota. "I'm not retiring". More major sports media coverage. I even hate the fact that because of Brett Favre I'm sitting here giving him MORE print. Either way, I've let my Anti-Favreness (if that's a word) severely hamper my judgement especially when it comes to picking ..."
The Green-Eyed TMR
"Don't look back in anger "You used to be the best. To make life be life to me. And I hope that you're still out there. And you're like you used to be. We'll be back in the high life again. All the doors I closed one time will open up again." Here are some guys I suggested you pick up in previous editions of this column. Somehow, you managed to avoid my genius, or you ran into my idiocy and picked up the wrong guys. Either way, they remarkably are still available in some leagues. Consider this a combo of obvious names and a listing of guys previously discussed. They should be picked up before any of the guys listed below them. I've listed them in the order I would claim them. As always, ..."
A Tale of Two Receivers
"Hall of Fame receiver and Cowboys talking head Michael Irvin said Tuesday that his efforts to help Roy Williams prior to the start of the season went unheeded. Irvin preached to both Williams and Miles Austin the importance of anticipating snap count in order to explode off the line of scrimmage. According to Irvin, Austin was receptive to the advice while Williams blew him off. After watching side-by-side video of the two receivers this season, Irvin noted that Austin is getting off the line much quicker than Williams. While Williams' disappointing post-trade production last season was explained away by plantar fasciitis, the presence of Terrell Owens, and an unfamiliarity with Tony Romo, ..."
Wire Me This (IDP: Week 9)
"Week 9 is upon us and you're probably thinking to yourself, are there anymore viable IDP options on the wire at this point? I am here to say….yes. Depending on your league size, there still should be some viable options on the wire for your squad. Pickens might be slim but, there's always a diamond in the rough: Defensive Lineman 1. Calais Campbell (ARI) 2. Randy Spears (MIA) 3. Ray Edwards (MIN) 4. Matt Shaughnessy (OAK) 5. Robaire Smith/Kenyon Coleman (CLE) Calais Campbell is coming off back to back weeks with at least a .5 sack (1 sack last week, .5 sack this week) but, he also threw in 8 total tackles. Campbell is someone to grab if you've had some inconsistent play at your DE ..."
Waiver Wire: Houston, we have questions
"Gary Kubiak didn't help Fantasy owners much at his news conference Monday when the Texans coach was asked about his running back situation. "I'm going to play them all," Kubiak said. "I'm in no hurry to make that decision. But, obviously, we're going to need all three of them. We'll make a decision when we get to Indianapolis." Houston doesn't have a problem, it has a mess, mostly for those of us making lineup decisions when it comes to Steve Slaton, Ryan Moats and even Chris Brown. We don't have a clear understanding if Slaton is benched or if Moats is starting, and Brown might also see his role change. The first thing to do is add Moats in all leagues, especially if you own Slaton. ..."
You Look FAABulous
"Chris Cooley, Larry Johnson, and Leon Washington. What do all three have in common? Well in many FF leagues these names are on the free agent list. Washington should be, he is OUT for the rest of the year, having been put on injured reserve. But reports of Cooley's status were changed when he got a second opinion and had the surgery and he is now expected to be back in Week 12. While Cooley does play for the hapless Washington Redskins, he was averaging over eleven PPR PPG (and that includes the zero he had in Week 5 when for some reason the Redskins brain trust [talk about an oxymoron] decided not to throw to their top receiver at all. Cooley might be a very good player to add NOW to get ..."
IDP Notes
"Bye Week: BUF, CLE, MIN, NYJ, OAK, STL Notable Injuries * DE Greg Ellis, OAK - tried to play through a knee problem on Sunday, but struggled and will have minor arthroscopic knee surgery to clean it up over the bye and will miss a few weeks. Third-round pick Matt Shaughnessy saw significant time and notched his first career sack. He should start while Ellis is out. * DE Jarvis Green, NE - is expected to miss at least 2 weeks after having minor arthroscopic knee surgery over the bye; Mike Wright should replace him in the starting lineup. * ILB Eric Barton, CLE - left Sunday's game in the second quarter with what has been diagnosed as a bulging disc in his neck, which could ..."
Top 10 waiver claims for Week 9
"Houston's tight end Owen Daniels is out for the season with a knee injury, and other significant players have bye weeks. Still other owners need to bench struggling starters. These developments leave some holes in lineups for owners to fill. A couple of recommendations are offered for owners with Minnesota's Adrian Peterson and St. Louis' Steven Jackson on a bye. A few suggestions are provided for owners who need a boost at wide receiver. Some tight ends are potential waiver clams for owners who have the injured Daniels to replace or need to substitute for Oakland's Zach Miller and Minnesota's Visanthe Shiancoe on byes. Defense/Special teams units are also suggested for owners with ..."
Week 9 Waiver Wire - Pick Them Up
"QUARTERBACKS — PICK THEM UP Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers) Since he took over for San Francisco last week, Smith has put together consecutive double digit fantasy-football performances while throwing four touchdowns and two interceptions. He's also kept the 49ers competitive in both of those games, including a close loss to the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday. Smith is somewhat of an enigma because the talent is there, but it has never been fully displayed. Since he has never shown the ability to be a consistent player, he should only be targeted in deep leagues. However, it is worth noting he has favorable match-ups coming up against the Titans, the Chicago Bears, the St. Louis Rams ..."
The Fire Sale: Fans are Fickle
"I don't understand how Green Bay fans can boo Brett Favre when he first walks on the field. I get booing him throughout the game. That's part of the fun. But how can those fans in Green Bay sit there with a straight face and boo arguably the greatest player who ever suited up for that historic franchise? Let me see if I got this right. Long suffering Packer fans got to feel the excitement of a Super Bowl victory back in 1996 only because Brett Favre was born. If there were no Brett Favre, Green Bay fans would still be reminiscing about their glory days from Super Bowls I and II. That's it. Favre is personally responsible for that city, organization and fan base winning a Super Bowl. ..."
Turnover in Texas
"Sunday's game at Buffalo started in turmoil for the Texans. By the end of the first quarter Steve Slaton had fumbled away the starting running back job, and the league's top scoring tight end was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Third-string tail back Ryan Moats went on to drop 151 yards and three touchdowns on the Bills' No. 32 run defense in a 31-10 blowout, as the Texans graduated to 5-3 while staying in legitimate contention for their first playoff berth. With all fantasy football eyes on Moats Monday, coach Gary Kubiak refused to name a starter. "I'm going to play them all," he said. "I'm in no hurry to make that decision, but, obviously, we're going to need all three of them. ..."
Burning once again?
"There was a ton of talk about Michael Turner's 376 carries last season leading up to this year's fantasy drafts. How would he respond to the workload? Turner was not a Top-5 pick for me, but it had little to do with his workload. There was still plenty of tread on his tires after those four years as a rarely-used LaDainian Tomlinson backup. The problem was that he's strictly a first- and second-down back, catches no passes and repeating 17 rushing touchdowns was going to be tough against a much stiffer schedule. Of course, when Turner averaged 3.4 yards per carry in his first six games, the "curse of 370" talk cropped back up. Last night's performance should squash the whispers about ..."
Week 8 surprises: Young plays mistake-free
"I certainly anticipated some fantastic moments in Brett Favre's return to Lambeau Field. I didn't expect to see him dancing all day in the pocket with ample time to make big throws in the secondary. Seriously, I expected to see a better push from the Green Bay defense than we saw in Week 4. Instead, Favre repeated his brilliance performance on the grand stage. He completed 17-of-28 pass attempts for 244 yards and four touchdowns. The Packers did not record a sack, and for the fifth time this season, Favre ended a game without a turnover. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez posted a strong performance in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. He may have been a desperation play in deeper leagues, and he ..."
Wire Me This (Week 9)
"Well, now that Gary Kubiak has officially gone Shanahan and installing an RBBC in Houston, now's the time to comb the wire for that all elusive, golden ticket for the rest of the season. Here are some names to look out for on your league's wire as we head into week 9: Running Backs 1. Ryan Moats (HOU) 2. Maurice Morris (DET) 3. Leonard Weaver (PHI) 4. Garrett Wolfe (CHI) 5. John Kuhn (GBP) Ryan Moats will be this week's hot free agent pickup. Kubiak as already said that all 3 running backs that he has (Slaton, Brown, Moats) will play and, will he'll likley play the hot hand (which is Moats right now). Slaton has had trouble with fumbling, which has led to Moats getting more PT. ..."
Fantasy & Reality: The 40-year-old surgeon
"If you're tired of reading about Brett Favre, I've got bad news for you. Like him or not, Favre's pasting of the Packers in Week 8 is just the backdrop for what should be considered one heck of a comeback season. Not to get all John Madden on you, but Favre is playing incredible football these days, and a letdown doesn't seem to be on the horizon. Through eight weeks, Favre is on pace for 32 touchdowns, six interceptions and 3,850 passing yards. Moreover, he's completed 68 percent of his passes, which would easily be a career-best for a single season if he was to keep it up. Favre has fit right in with what the Vikings are doing offensively and has developed an impressive receiving corps ..."
Fantasy Football Pitfalls – Week 9
"With the bye weeks upon us, you can't necessarily sit the guys on this list unless you have great depth, but expect a drop in production. Matt Schaub, QB, Houston Texans Schaub has been outstanding this year, but faces a very tough this week against the Colts in Indianapolis. Dwight Freeney and company attack opposing quarterbacks, which will pressure Schaub into making a quick decision, which could throw his timing off. The last time he faced them he threw for 236 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs, and was sacked 3 times. Schaub also has to face them without Owen Daniels, who is lost for the year with a knee injury. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys I know he's looked like a different Quarterback in ..."
Bye Week Alternatives – Week 9
"Week 9 Byes: Buffalo, Cleveland, Oakland, St. Louis, Minnesota, New York Jets Quarterbacks Brett Favre is the only QB that could leave teams in a bind, though if you have him, you should have a another solid QB. Mark Sanchez has been good at times, but you probably aren't going to miss him much. Solid Alternatives: David Garrard—Garrard plays much better at home, which is where he takes on Kansas City this week. He's averaging 313.3 yards per game at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium with 5 TDs and 3 INTs in 3 games with an additional 32 yards per game on the ground. Matt Hasselbeck—He's been hit or miss this year, but he should be on this week as he takes on Detroit. Desperation Time: Alex ..."
Get 'em or Don't Sweat 'em Week 8
"There were some unusual heroes on Sunday. There always are. Let's take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters. Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets If Sanchez got dropped due to his poor play prior in recent weeks, it's time to pick him up. Jerricho Cotchery is healthy, Braylon Edwards and Dustin Keller are coming on, and he has shown toughness by running for 3 TDs already. Ruling: Get 'em. Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions He's useful for 2 QB leagues, but he shouldn't be considered in standard leagues. He barely put up a decent score against the Rams, and that was only because he ran one in. Ruling: Don't Get 'em. Vince Young, QB, Tennessee Titans Same deal as ..."
Waiver Wire: RB - Week 9
"If you are serious about winning your fantasy league football championship, stay on top of your fantasy football team throughout the year. Each week during the NFL fantasy football season, KFFL brings you its Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, which breaks down players to pick up. Be aggressive when picking up fantasy football free agents. Even if you do not need a player, you can tuck him away for depth or block others from adding him to their fantasy football team. Note: Percentage of polled leagues in which player is available in parentheses Fantasy football free agents: Priority additions The following players should be high on your radar and are worthy of being added immediately to your ..."
Week 9 Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose
"QUARTERBACKS — CUT THEM LOOSE Marc Bulger (St. Louis Rams) - This is more so a reminder to the 7-10 percent of you who rolled with Marc Bulger in Week 8 because you were faced with a bye week dilemma. On paper this match-up with the Detroit Lions was a good one, as the Lions defense had allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 74.2 percent of their passes while surrendering 17 touchdowns in just six games. Owners who started Bulger expecting a breakout game were highly disappointed as the veteran signal caller completed just 17 of 35 passes for 176 yards and an interception. His lackluster performance led to just five fantasy football points and if Bulger can't produce against the Lions ..."
First Response: Houston's win is our loss
"The Texans found out what it's like to win and lose all in the same day. They had a bittersweet victory against the Bills on Sunday. While the 31-10 win at Buffalo put the Texans (5-3) in the middle of the AFC playoff race, they are now dealing with questions at running back and tight end with Steve Slaton and Owen Daniels. And Fantasy owners need to pay attention to what happens over the next few days. The biggest news dealt with Daniels, who left the game with a right knee injury and could have a torn ACL. He will undergo tests Monday, but coach Gary Kubiak said after the game "it doesn't look good." Coming into Week 8, Daniels was the No. 1 tight end in standard-scoring Fantasy leagues ..."
Where does Moats fit with Texans?
"Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak might be displeased with Steve Slaton, but rest assured, fantasy owners must be more displeased with Kubiak right now. Facing a cakewalk matchup versus the Buffalo Bills, who entering the week had allowed the most fantasy points per game (26.7), third-most receptions (38) and seventh-most receiving yards (303) to opposing running backs, Slaton received an early hook from Kubiak after fumbling a little under 10 minutes into Week 8. It was the seventh time this season that Slaton had fumbled and the fifth time he lost a fumble; it was also the third consecutive week in which he lost a fumble. Slaton didn't touch the football the rest of the day, replaced by ..."
Mo-Jo leads most valuable race
"There is no fantasy MVP through eight weeks. Maurice Jones-Drew and Adrian Peterson have lived up to their draft billing, but they haven't carried teams all by themselves. Remember that a year ago at this time DeAngelo Williams was just another so-so RB2 before owning the final two months. The first half of the fantasy season is about positioning. The second half is about cash. Here's a look at some of the best, worst, and in-between from the first eight weeks. Five Most valuable running backs Draft value is taken into consideration when ranking most valuable players. If Cedric Benson and Ronnie Brown average the same amount of fantasy points, Benson has been more valuable because he came ..."
Post-game Injury Report - Week 8
"Quarterback QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Injury News, Fantasy Tom Pelissero, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (undisclosed) was limping severely after the team's Week 8 game. QB | Jake Delhomme | Carolina Panthers | Injury News Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme (chest) was taken to a nearby hospital for a CT scan. Delhomme checked out OK and will fly home with the team. QB | Matt Moore | Carolina Panthers | Injury News Panthers.com reported on their Twitter page that Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme (chest) left the team's Week 8 game with a chest injury and is questionable to return. He ..."

"#5. Rams 17 Lions 10 BEYOND THE BOXSCORE * The win snapped a 17-game losing streak for the Rams that dated back to last year. They didn't look great, but the Lions looked worse. It was a battle of two very bad football teams. * Marc Bulger, who finished 17-of-35 for 176 yards, passed Jim Everett for second on the Rams' all-time passing yards list. Of course, that doesn't mean he's worthy of a spot on fantasy rosters. It appears St. Louis will struggle to move the ball through the air all season long. * The Rams' key touchdown came on a trick play near the end of the second quarter, when kicker Josh Brown threw a short pass to a wide-open Daniel Fells, who rumbled 36 yards for a score. It ..."
Week 8 takeaways: Slaton a non-factor
"We saw some players blow up unexpectedly in Week 8 while other fantasy seasons may have been deep-sixed. Let's get right to it. Dolphins 30, Jets 25 • After a dull first half, these two teams rang up major points in the third quarter. And Miami's defense and special teams basically won this game for them. It was a huge shock to see that Miami managed 30 points, but Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams each ran for no touchdowns and 27 yards on the day. • Those who started Mark Sanchez over their regular QB who happened to be injured or on a bye sort of found a winning lottery ticket. For as good as Sanchez looked today, don't forget that he's going to follow it up with hugely disappointing ..."
Infirmary Report
"It's time talk injuries of the week and that means Owen Daniels, Jake Delhomme, and Anquan Boldin are on the trainers table. We've got it all right here in the latest edition of Infirmary Report, the first article to read for what happened on Sunday. So, make sure you know all the big injuries and check us out every week right here at FantasyFootball.com!!! Quarterbacks QUESTIONABLE Jake Delhomme (Chest), Carolina Panthers Panthers' QB Jake Delhomme left the team's game against the Cardinals with a chest injury in the 3rd quarter after taking a big hit from both Chike Okeafor and Darnell Dockett. He was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and after being released, Delhomme ..."
Titanic Day
"Happy belated Halloween everyone! It was scary how good some of the performances were in Week 8, as the ghoulish fever carried on into Sunday's games. Let's take a look at what went down at the unofficial midpoint of the N.F.L. season. Top 5 Quarterbacks: 1. Aaron Rodgers – 287 Pass Yds, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 52 Rush Yds – His best wasn't good enough to win the game, but it was more than enough from a fantasy perspective. He's a fantasy machine as far as quarterbacks as concerned, and can be relied on every single week, regardless of the matchup. 2. Brett Favre – 244 Pass Yds, 4 TDs, 0 INTs – This guy always seems to deliver when there is a little extra emotion involved. Despite fighting back ..."
NFL Week 8 - Game Previews (Fantasy Style)
"Throughout the off-season, the Bruno Boys peered into their Crystal Ball to provide you out there in Bruno Boys Nation with a look into what the future held for specific players for the 2009 season. Now, we shift our focus and utilize our psychic powers to provide you with a breakdown of all the NFL games on the docket for this Week 8 of football action as Bruno Boys Kyle presents the Week 8 - Game Previews (Fantasy Style). Cleveland Browns @ Chicago Bears: It's difficult to imagine if you've watched the Browns play at all this season that they've actually won a game, but they did; a 6-3 win over Buffalo in Week 5 in a game Derek Anderson completed just two passes. In fact, he's completed ..."
Fantasy Football Insider - Week 8
"Here's what KFFL's inside sources are saying this week. Quarterbacks Does Donovan McNabb have a favorite target? He has the most time with tight end Brent Celek, but teams have tried to take the middle away from the Philadelphia Eagles' passing attack. Though McNabb has flirted often with wideout Jason Avant, including during practice this week (something to watch against the New York Giants?), it's hard to say McNabb has a true go-to option. While we're on the subject, Michael Vick has needed a rhythm to get going during his minimal work. The Iggles aren't optimizing his potential. Is he even a solid fit for the wildcat? He doesn't run inside well, which hurts his chances there. McNabb ..."
Back to the Future
"Lone star loving Titans owner Bud Adams handpicked Vince Young as the No. 3 overall selection in the 2006 draft, allegedly against the vehement protestations of coach Jeff Fisher. Now Fisher's hand is being forced again at the behest of Adams. It speaks volumes that Fisher was still reluctant to hand over the offense to Young with an 0-6 record and a flailing 36-year-old quarterback. Fisher, dead man walking with a desperate need for a change of scenery, finally picked up his dragging feet and announced the quarterback change Thursday. Make no mistake, Young has a lot going against him in the second half of the season. Locker room troubles follow him like a black cloud after he quit on the ..."
Tricks on the Trade: React and overreact
"With every week comes overreaction. Perception changes with every touchdown. It can turn on a dime, leaving last week's hero a chump or vice-versa. Hello, Frank Gore. Hello, Steve Slaton. Within the Fantasy Football-playing community exists a population of point chasers. They go after last week's numbers as if they represent this week's numbers, ignoring variables like timing, opportunity and, above all, chance. Yes, chance. Sometimes things just happen, and instead of acting on them, you're better off ignoring them. Trade No. 1: Three touchdowns, you're out? Team A gets: Ricky Williams and Hines Ward Team B gets: Ray Rice and Steve Smith Three touchdowns. That's the stat most people will ..."
Breakfast Table: Mixed signal callers
"Looks like there's plenty to dish on as we hit Week 8. Parity is dead, fact or fiction? We see this path in NFL circles all the time – the Chicken Littles scream that the sky is falling, then the contrarians tilt their noses up and debunk it all. But last week in Vegas, the sky really was falling – favorites continue to run wild to the delight of squares everywhere. Where is this headed? Brett Favre(notes) back in Green Bay; how do Packers fans react now that he's already ripped their hearts out once this year? Ah, screw that, who wins and why? What's going to stop this Saints juggernaut? They didn't play anywhere near their peak and they still put 46 up on the Dolphins. Can Atlanta hang ..."
Week 8 stat book
"Numbers are the lifeblood of fantasy football, but not all of them are relevant. Being a successful fantasy owner, as many of you veteran players already know, takes the ability to look back as well as forward. When we look back, though, what should we take forward? Each week, the Stat Book highlights some interesting numbers from the past and determines whether they'll be meaningful or meaningless in the week ahead. ITEM: Brandon Marshall(notes) has four TDs in his past four games. ANGLE: The Baltimore pass defense has been vulnerable this season, and Marshall and Kyle Orton(notes) are working well together. Marshall should post solid yardage totals this week in addition to getting more ..."
NFL Week 8 Fantasy Fill-ins
"I've uncovered some guys you can plug in if you are dealing with an injury or tough matchups. David Garrard, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars - I have to mention him since he's facing the sorry Tennessee Titans, but I must warn you, I have a bad feeling about this one. This could be a trap play for your fantasy team. Kyle Orton, QB, Denver Broncos - He doesn't make mistakes and Brandon Marshall is playing great football. Plus, Baltimore has struggled against the pass this year. Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears - I believe "Good" Jay will show up this week and torch the Browns. They will have a hard time containing Greg Olsen and Devin Hester is coming into his own. LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San ..."
Fantasy Football Week 8 Start Ems
"If you hated the bye weeks prior to Week 7, you're really going to be pissed moving forward. The reason? Instead of the four bye week teams you were getting used to, from Week 7 to Week 9 their will will be six teams taking it easy. Never fear, though, because there are still plenty of good plays out there. In fact, if you continue reading through the rest of the Fantasy Football Week 8 Start Ems, you'll see some of the better ones for Week 8. QUARTERBACKS – START 'EM David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Tennessee Both teams are coming off of a bye week, so we figure this game won't be a huge blowout on either side. One thing is for sure though, the Titans didn't pick up a bunch of Champ ..."

"Quarterback QB | Matt Hasselbeck | Seattle Seahawks | Injury News, Fantasy Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck (ribs) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 29, and he will likely play Week 8. QB | Joe Flacco | Baltimore Ravens | Injury News, Fantasy Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 29, and he will start Week 8. QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Injury News, Fantasy Updating a previous report, Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (foot) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 29. He is expected to practice fully Friday, Oct. 30, and will play in ..."
Analyzing The Experts
"Week Seven marks the halfway point of our thirteen game regular season, so it's time to change things up a bit. I've spent the better part of two months tearing apart our Experts, ridiculing their rankings, and demeaning their highly esteemed knowledge and experience. It is only fair that they should get a chance to respond to my continual jibes. As usual, this concept came to me shortly before deadline, so I turned to the one contestant I could count on to get back to me relatively quickly. Please welcome Mike Krueger of FF Today to the Analyzing the Experts interview room. I emailed him a short list of questions readers have been asking me or I've wanted to ask myself. He was kind enough ..."
Got a specific roster question relative to your team? Fire away. Quarterbacks Bye Weeks: Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger Start 'Em: Quarterbacks Who Will Outperform Relative To Their Draft Position And Recent ..."
RB committee update: Beanie breaks out
"Welcome to the latest edition of our fantasy backfield committee update, which will help you understand what's going on in the Shanahan-created world of running back tandems. The Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers and Redskins have byes in Week 8. Arizona Cardinals Committee worry level: High Week 7: Beanie ..."
Lineup calls: Scaife's a factor again
"This week's slate includes a number of potentially entertaining games. Obviously, many fans and fantasy owners are clamoring for the return of Brett Favre to Green Bay. What about the Giants trying to stop a two-game slide on the road at Philadelphia? I love the second matchup between the Jets and Dolphins, where the Jets have to try and stop that "nonsense" again. Atlanta travels to New Orleans and Denver tries to stay unbeaten on the road in Baltimore. Who could forget the Jacksonville-Tennessee battle and the St. Louis-Detroit tilt? Hey, it's still football. Savor it until January comes and most of these squads go into hibernation. Besides, all of the games still have tremendous fantasy ..."
Inside The Matchup: Wk 8
"Dolphins @ Jets (Marcoccio) Chad Henne/Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams Ted Ginn Jr./Brian Hartline/Davone Bess/Anthony Fasano (vs. NYJ) NYJ FF Points Allowed vs. QBs: -33.0% NYJ FF Points Allowed vs. RBs: -5.0% NYJ FF Points Allowed vs. WRs: -32.9% NYJ FF Points Allowed vs. TEs: -31.4% Passing Game Thoughts: The Dolphins blew a big lead to the Saints last week. Although Chad Henne had two interceptions show up on his stat-sheet, WR Ted Ginn, Jr. was more to blame as he should have pulled in at least one of them for a catch. Ginn didn't do his young QB any favors by dropping a few key balls as well. Word is that those drops have cost Ginn his spot in the starting line-up and he will be replaced ..."
Bradshaw to play on broken foot
"Since it's Friday, here's our weekly look at what you can do for Sunday morning lineup assistance: Listen to FOX Fantasy Freaks Mike Harmon, Nate Lundy and Peter Burns on foxsportsradio.com and XM 142 from 10 a.m. until noon ET. Send the boys questions via Twitter by following them at @FantasyFreaks. Chat with Roger Rotter from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Send questions now if you like. Send me questions via e-mail to jhalpin37@gmail.com, or via Twitter by following me @jhalpin37. Now that we've got that out of the way, and since I'm happy this morning because the Yankees beat the evil Pedro Martinez, let's get to the news: Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw has been cleared to keep playing with a cracked ..."
The All-Out Blitz - Vol. 7
Top 10 sleepers for Week 8
"Looking for an emerging player or an overlooked veteran to erupt for a big fantasy day? Or that he at least contribute a solid fantasy outing? Week 7 examples included quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Jason Campbell; running backs Ricky Williams, Chris Wells and Laurence Maroney; wide receivers Austin Miles, Sidney Rice, Hakeem Nicks and Lee Evans; and tight ends Vernon Davis and Tony Scheffler . Review these top 10 sleepers to help score a Week 8 victory and move closer to clinching a berth for the fantasy playoffs. 10. Michael Crabtree, WR, San Francisco Indianapolis is the No. 2 scoring offense, so its next opponent San Francisco will likely need to keep pace with the high-scoring Colts. ..."

Week 8 Start 'Em and Sit 'Em
"This has to be such a strange week for Packers fans. Seeing Brett Favre come back to Lambeau Field wearing a Viking jersey must be surreal. Favre played 16 years in Green Bay and established himself as a Hall of Fame quarterback. He has a steakhouse named after him that is located on his own street, Brett Favre Pass. And now he's the enemy. Unfortunately for Packers fans, Favre is playing at a high level. He's having one of his best years, and that should continue in this highly-anticipated showdown, which is why Favre is our Start of the Week. Favre is averaging 240 passing yards per game with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Green Bay already got a taste of what's ..."
D Up: Exploiting eligibility rules
"The first definition of the term "loophole" is a small opening through which small arms may be fired. But for our purposes, we are looking for the exploitive connotation of the word, not the gun-duel version. The relevant kind of loophole, of course, is a weakness or exception that allows a system or set of rules and laws to be circumvented or otherwise avoided. A salient example would be starting the Green Bay Packers' Spencer Havner this week at linebacker for your fantasy team. So instead of positioning a pistol through a crevice, we are putting a newly converted tight end in at linebacker in our lineups. The newly converted Havner is now catching passes from Aaron Rodgers and is no ..."
Fear And Loathing In Fantasy Football
"Boo. Halloween, I am told, is about a few things. Costumes, an excuse for women to dress as skimpily as possible and, of course, scary stuff. So, for my costume, since I'm gonna have to miss a lot of parties, I'll just tell everyone I'm going as Terrell Owens and not show up. I prefer "naughty nurse" over "trampy cop," if you are keeping score at home. As for the scary stuff ... I've got plenty to keep me frightened. As we approach Week 8 of the NFL and Halloween, what's got me scared is ... ... That this is as good as Matt Forte gets. … That Brett Favre won't falter in the second half like he did last year, the Vikings will go far in the playoffs (but not win the Super Bowl) and we will ..."
The Breakdown
"As of this writing, Andre Johnson hasn't been able to practice much, but he told reporters Wednesday that he'll definitely play in this game. That's a sigh of relief after the term "lung contusion" entered the fantasy football player's vernacular early this week. Clearly, it'll make sense to check the game-day inactives list, but even in a potentially rainy game, if Johnson's playing, use him. Fantasy Up: One of the most heartening things I saw in Week 7 was a first-quarter possession during which the Texans tossed it to Steve Slaton, and Slaton got tackled at the 2. Instead of bringing in Chris Brown, Gary Kubiak let Slaton have the shorty, and Slaton converted. Then later in the game, ..."
Short Cuts: Texans takeoff
"After watching every play from every game this past weekend, and talking to some people who have broken down the games on film this week, here are some random thoughts from last week. The Texans are officially pretty good against the run. They have a good front seven, and S Barnard Pollard gives them a presence as an eighth defender in the box. Houston's offense is very multi-dimensional. TE Owen Daniels(notes) has become more significant formationally because they move him around a lot. He's almost become their lead guy, and he might just be the best overall TE in football right now. Perhaps one of Houston WR Kevin Walter's(notes) problems is that he's best fit as No. 3. He may be moving ..."
