Eagles Trade Rumors

Westbrook only "questionable"
"There's still an air of uncertainty about whether or not Brian Westbrook will play Sunday night against the Cowboys. The Eagles' running back was withheld from practice Friday after taking most of the first-team reps on Wednesday and Thursday and is listed on the team's official report as "questionable" - a 50 percent chance to play, in NFL jargon. But coach Andy Reid seemed to suggest that Westbrook would play and was only held out of practice because of the recent workload. "He's had two hard days of work and, really, the young kid [LeSean McCoy] hasn't gotten a ton of reps," Reid said. "Like I've done on some othe Fridays, I kept Brian out." The uncertainty lies in the injury report. ..."
Eagles RB Brian Westbrook could miss game against New York Giants
"As commissioner Roger Goodell was defending the NFL's policies on concussions before Congress Wednesday, the Eagles were dealing with a head injury to Brian Westbrook and beginning the process of determining whether the star running back can take the field against the Giants on Sunday. Since Westbrook has always been the most vital part of the Eagles' offense, it might be tempting to rush him back after his head collided with the knee of Redskins linebacker Rocky McIntosh on Monday night. On his radio show Tuesday, Andy Reid said he was "counting on" Westbrook playing. Wednesday, however, he told reporters that Westbrook would not play until his series of week-long tests checked out, which ..."
Signs point against Westbrook's return
"Andy Reid said last night that he was "counting on" Brian Westbrook to be ready when the Eagles play the New York Giants in an NFC East showdown Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.Based on medical guidelines for dealing with a concussion, however, that scenario seemed unlikely."Right now, I'm counting on he'll be there, and I know he'll want to be there, so there is a fine line there because this guy is so competitive that he wants to be out there every minute," Reid said during his radio show on WIP-AM (610)."We just have to make sure the tests come back and he's OK to play," the coach said.Pennsylvania Hospital's Art Bartolozzi, the former team physician for the Eagles and Flyers, ..."
Eagles' Curtis undergoes surgery
"Having all those extra receivers doesn't seem so wasteful now. Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee yesterday and is out for the foreseeable future, coach Andy Reid said. Curtis sat out the last three games with his ailing knee, but magnetic resonance images conducted by the team over the last month did not reveal any structural damage. However, he received a second look last week in Logan, Utah, and doctors decided to perform the minor procedure in which small incisions are made. "There wasn't too much in there that they had to work on," Reid said. "They just snipped a few little things in there, but it wasn't a major thing." Reid said that he had no ..."
Curtis and Gaither have surgery
"Wide receiver Kevin Curtis had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, Eagles coach Andy Reid said today. Reid said that he had no idea when Curtis would be back playing, but that he anticipated a return before the end of the season. "I think time will tell here, but I think so," Reid said. Curtis had missed the last three games with the knee injury, but team MRIs never revealed more than inflammation. "They didn't see much in the MRI," Reid said. "MRIs don't always show everything so they went in and just checked things out. There wasn't too much in there that they had to work on. They just snipped a few little things in there, but it wasn't a major thing.""
Gaither likely out for season
"Eagles middle linebacker Omar Gaither will have Lisfranc surgery on his injured foot this week, Eagles coach Andy Reid said. The surgery will almost certainly end his season, although the team has not officially placed him on injured reserve. Gaither was injured late in the fourth quarter against the Raiders. Reid said he was not sure what he would do to fill Gaither's roster spot, once Gaither is officially done for the year. A wide receiver could be a possibility, because Kevin Curtis is getting a second opinion on his sore knee. Curtis has missed the last three games. The Eagles traded for linebacker Will Witherspoon from the Rams earlier this week, and he becomes the instant starter in ..."
Eagles acquire linebacker Will Witherspoon from Rams
"The Eagles acquired linebacker Will Witherspoon from St. Louis for wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a fifth-round pick in 2010. Today is the NFL trading deadline and the Eagles clearly had a need at linebacker. Gibson looked good in training camp but has not been playing. Witherspoon, in his eighth season out of Georgia, sustained injuries to his hip and back in Sunday's overtime loss at Jacksonville. The 29-year-old had to be assisted to the sidelines by trainers. An MRI indicated only a bruise. Witherspoon, 6-1, 239, signed a 6-year, $33 million deal (including $15 million guaranteed) with St. Louis in 2006. In his first season with the Rams, he played in all 16 games and recorded a ..."
Vick: No Oakland ill will
"Former NFL coach Tony Dungy said earlier this month that he advised Michael Vick against signing with the Raiders once the quarterback was released from prison and reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell. On Wednesday, Vick addressed Dungy's remarks and clarified the issue. "When I got released from prison, I didn't care where I would have played," Vick told Philadelphia media. "Coach Dungy wanted me to be in a place where I was going to be protected, and I just wouldn't have a lot of pressure on me. That's what he meant." For the record, the Raiders never showed any interest in Vick, who eventually signed with the Eagles. Coach Tom Cable said he and the Raiders were content with their ..."
Eagles indicate new contract for Reid
"Andy Reid could have more than his 100th regular season win coming soon. The Eagles coach might have a new contract.During an interview with Larry Kane that is to be aired tomorrow on the Comcast Network, team president Joe Banner said that he expects the Eagles to renew Reid's contract before it expires after next season."Yeah, I'm sure it will be," Banner said. "We have a phenomenal relationship with him. We view him as [being] in the top couple of coaches in the league."Reid's record suggests as much. In his 11th season in Philadelphia, he is 99-63-1 with a .610 winning percentage. Only the Patriots' Bill Belichick and the Titans' Jeff Fisher have more victories among active coaches. ..."
Sheldon Brown playing hurt, unofficially
"You won't find Sheldon Brown's name anywhere on the Eagles' injury report, but that doesn't mean he's not playing hurt. After being a full participant in practice yesterday, the veteran cornerback unwrapped protective padding from his right hand. He confirmed a report from a source close to the situation that he injured his hand during pregame warm-ups against the Kansas City Chiefs. The injury occurred when Brown ran into a member of the Eagles' security staff who had inadvertently wandered onto the field. "I think it was during a seven-on-seven drill or maybe the team drill," Brown said. "I was in coverage and I ran into the guy. I never saw him. He shouldn't have been there.""
Return of Trotter to Eagles seems to be closer to reality
"THE RETURN of Jeremiah Trotter to the Eagles' locker room - an outlandish notion a week ago - seems to be drawing closer to reality this morning.Trotter worked out for the team again yesterday, he and the Eagles confirmed. Eagles coach Andy Reid offered no comment on his weekly radio show, other than to acknowledge the session. But Trotter told the Daily News it went "two to three times better" than last week's initial workout, in which Reid said Trotter seemed more agile than he was when the Birds released him, 25 months ago. Trotter, a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Eagles, arrived as a third-round draftee in 1998, then left early in 2002 to sign with the Washington Redskins as a ..."
Reid expecting McNabb to be back for Tampa Bay
"Donovan McNabb could return Oct. 11 when the Eagles play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after their bye week."I think he will, but we'll see how it goes," Eagles coach Andy Reid said yesterday after his team's 34-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.McNabb's return from a fractured rib will likely have a domino effect, with Kevin Kolb resuming his backup role and Jeff Garcia getting sent back to the unemployment line.Reid made it clear that there isn't going to be a quarterback controversy even though Kolb threw for more than 300 yards in each of his two starts."Donovan is the quarterback of the team," Reid said. "That's not a problem. I don't think it's a problem with Kevin, and I don't think ..."
Vick says he thought he'd be starting
"On Sunday, when Michael Vick makes his much-anticipated return to the NFL for the Eagles, all eyes will be on whether the once fleet-of-foot scrambler has lost a step. Thursday the quarterback proved he has no problem running his mouth. In an interview with CBS that will air Sunday, obtained in advance by USA Today, Vick said he believed he would be a starting quarterback when he returned to the NFL. "This is not the exact scenario I thought would play out," Vick told CBS. "I thought I'd be playing with a team and actually starting." Vick hasn't played in a regular-season game since Dec. 31, 2006, but with Donovan McNabb sidelined with a rib injury, the Eagles will give Kevin Kolb the ..."
Maclin to start if Curtis ailing
"Jeremy Maclin played his first NFL game in the season opener and caught his first NFL pass last week against New Orleans. Now it looks like the Eagles' first-round pick could be making his first NFL start Sunday against Kansas City. Head coach Andy Reid said Maclin would get the start against the Chiefs if wide receiver Kevin Curtis can't play. Reid also said former starter Reggie Brown would be active for the first time this season if Curtis is sidelined, but would serve as a backup. Curtis has been nursing a sore knee since training camp and played through sporadic pain but was withheld from practice Friday. Curtis is listed as doubtful, but Maclin didn't sound overly enthused about the ..."
No decision made, but Eagles coach Reid impressed by Trotter's workout
"THE GUY who would be most affected if the Eagles brought back Jeremiah Trotter did not want to discuss it yesterday."No comment," middle linebacker Omar Gaither said, over and over to a variety of questions, some of which weren't even directly about Trotter - such as, "Do you think the coaches are concerned about stopping the run?"Though several Eagles were happy to talk about the prospect of Trotter returning to the locker room, none of those players was a linebacker. That part of the room was pretty empty yesterday, during the time reporters were present.Eagles coach Andy Reid said no decision had been made, though he repeatedly praised the agility Trotter showed during the former star's ..."
Curious Eagles give Trotter a workout
"Is the Eagles' subpar tackling so bad that the team would bring back linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, who is 32 and hasn't played in the NFL since 2007?Trotter worked out for the Eagles yesterday."I felt really good," Trotter said on WIP-AM (610). "I've been training and working out. The indication I got from everybody was that the workout went really well."Trotter and his agent, Jim Sexton, could not be reached for comment. A team source indicated that the Eagles were just gauging the former all-pro's level of fitness.Coach Andy Reid was unavailable to comment after Trotter's workout. On WIP, Trotter said he first contacted Reid about a possible return after starting middle linebacker Stewart ..."
McNabb doesn't practice; Vick will play
"Donovan McNabb is still not able to practice and it appears unlikely he will play this week. McNabb, who suffered a broken rib in a season-opening win over the Carolina Panthers, is expected to miss his second straight game as the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) meet the Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) at Lincoln Financial Field. With the Eagles on a bye next week, resting McNabb gives him more time to heal before the Eagles host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 11. McNabb was at Thursday's practice, but only watched. Third-year QB Kevin Kolb started last week in a loss to the New Orleans Saints and is expected to start again. Veterans Jeff Garcia and Michael Vick, back from his league suspension, will ..."
How will Jackson's injury alter Eagles offence?
"The day that one X-factor truly became a part of the team, another found himself sidelined.DeSean Jackson's aggravated groin strain has aggravated him enough that he didn't practice yesterday. Jackson has been the chief weapon in the Eagles' Wildcat offense.Michael Vick was signed fresh out of prison to enhance the Eagles' new, keep-up-with-the-Sporanos wrinkle. Vick's two-game suspension is over. He can be incorporated into the team's game plan for Sunday when the Chiefs visit.Considering Jackson's role in the Eagles' various formations - he has been a big part of pretty much all of them - clearly, the scheme might have to be altered.Mightn't it?"Whether he's running around or a Wildcat ..."
Expect Cole, Jean-Gilles to start again for Eagles
"Andy Reid said we can probably expect to see Nick Cole and Max Jean-Gilles as the Eagles' starting guards again this week, though he said he wants to see how Stacy Andrews "does here in practice, and see where he's at." After practice, Andrews confirmed that Jean-Gilles practiced again at right guard with the first-team offense. So the rebuilt offensive line that arrived at training camp is still missing three of its projected starters, with one of them - right tackle Shawn Andrews - off in California getting his back checked out again, after being placed on injured reserve. Another, left guard Todd Herremans, is pushing his repaired foot around on a cart and hopes to return for the Oct. 26 ..."
Reid not saying if Vick will play
"The only certainty in the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback situation appears to be uncertainty -- and it doesn't end with whether Donovan McNabb will start on Sunday. Eagles coach Andy Reid knows McNabb or Kevin Kolb will start against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday -- McNabb if he's healthy enough to play, Kolb if McNabb can't go. But who's the backup? Reid isn't sure whether Jeff Garcia or Michael Vick would be the backup quarterback. Reid wouldn't even say that Vick is definitely playing against the Chiefs. Vick is eligible for the first time after serving a two-game suspension as the final league penalty for his role in running a dogfighting ring. But Vick, calling himself "The ..."
McNabb says rib injury improving
"Donovan McNabb, who watched from the Eagles' sideline as Kevin Kolb quarterbacked Sunday, told a team spokesman yesterday that like Andy Reid, McNabb believes his fractured rib is progressing, but he can't say whether he will play Sunday against Kansas City."I think there is a process that is going on, and the progression makes you feel confident that things are going to be better," McNabb said. "Hopefully, it will be quicker than later. I'm looking forward to being back out on the field."Asked about playing, McNabb said: "I wish I had an answer, but I don't. Hopefully, things will continue to get better and I'll have one for you later."Earlier, Reid said "there's a chance" McNabb could ..."
McNabb still uncertain; Jackson day-to-day
"Donovan McNabb isn't the Eagles' only playmaker who's status for practice this week is cloudy. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who caught a 71-yard touchdown in the first quarter, is day-to-day with a groin strain, Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday in his day-after press conference to sum up Sunday's hideous 48-22 loss defeat to New Orleans. It doesn't sound overly serious, but the prospect of an offense without McNabb and Jackson against Kansas City probably keeps Marty Mornhinweg awake at night. As for McNabb, Reid said the quarterback had made good progress throughout last week but the healing process seemed to slow over the week, from Friday through Sunday. McNabb's status for the ..."
Westbrook sprains surgically repaired ankle
"Eagles running back Brian Westbrook sprained his surgically repaired right ankle during the third quarter of the team's 48-22 loss to the New Orleans Saints yesterday. Westbrook then briefly returned to the game, but when the score got out of hand in the fourth quarter, rookie LeSean McCoy replaced him. Even if the game had been close, it's not clear that Westbrook would have been able to continue. "It was just sore," Westbrook said. "I tried to put a little weight on it. Tried to be effective out there on the field. You don't want to go out there and hurt the team. As far as running, I wanted to make some cuts, and I just wasn't able to do it." It was the second straight week that ..."
Jackson's groin injury could be a concern
"Electric receiver and returner DeSean Jackson didn't play after the beginning of the fourth quarter. As the rest of the Eagles tried desperately to come back against the Saints, Jackson, the team's most dynamic player, limited his action to the sideline. His angry groin, flaring all week, finally cost him playing time. Any time the Eagles are without Jackson, it matters. He returned a punt for a touchdown in the season opener. He caught a 71-yard bomb to tie the score in today's home opener. With Michael Vick suspended the first two games, Jackson has been the main cog in the Birds' Wildcat offense. And, with just four receivers active today, he was absent with the team in comeback mode. ..."
Updated injury report for Sunday's game between the Saints and Eagles
"Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb will officially be listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Saints, according to Coach Andy Reid. That pretty much rules him out, barring a miracle weekend recovery. Teams aren't allowed to be deceptive with their injury reports. If a guy plays when he's listed as doubtful, they need to have a good explanation. ... But then again, McNabb has played on Sundays in the past even when he's missed an entire week of practice, so don't rule out a Willis Reed-type emergence. The Saints, meanwhile, have listed tailback Pierre Thomas as questionable with his sprained right knee after he practiced on a limited basis again Friday. I'd be surprised to see ..."
Source: Colts to sign Baskett
"The Indianapolis Colts will sign former Philadelphia Eagles receiver Hank Baskett on Thursday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Colts have been in the market for a receiver since losing Anthony Gonzalez to a knee injury. After releasing Marvin Harrison in a cost-cutting move in February, the Colts expected two former first-round picks, receivers Reggie Wayne and Gonzalez to step up. But Gonzalez sprained ligaments in his right knee Sunday and is expected to miss several weeks. The Indianapolis Star, citing a source, reported Thursday that Gonzalez won't require surgery and hopes to return after the Colts' Oct. 18 bye -- meaning he will miss four games."
Westbrook option declined
"Brian Westbrook's long-term security apparently isn't as long as he had anticipated. A revision in the five-year, $32 million extension the Philadelphia Eagles running back signed last August indicated the $7 million option bonus due in 2010 wasn't exercised by the team, according to multiple sources. By not exercising the $7 million bonus, Westbrook's contract ends in 2010."
Eagles re-sign QB Jeff Garcia
"Initially it seemed odd when the Eagles signed Matt Nagy, one of their intern coaches, for a half day while at Lehigh University. Turns out that little quarterback maneuver couldn't compete with the stranger-than-fiction tales that have followed. The latest chapter unfolded yesterday when the Eagles re-signed Jeff Garcia to a one-year deal to give themselves some insurance while starter Donovan McNabb recovers from the fractured rib he suffered in the third quarter of Sunday's game at Carolina. Garcia, when he arrives for practice tomorrow at the NovaCare Complex, will be the seventh quarterback to pull on an Eagles uniform since the start of training camp. He's aware that his Philadelphia ..."
Eagles to keep tabs on injured McNabb
"Donovan McNabb's status is uncertain for the Eagles' game against New Orleans next Sunday because of a cracked rib. "He's pretty sore," coach Andy Reid said Monday. "He's going to try and battle through it. He'll struggle to practice." When the Eagles return to practice Wednesday, backup Kevin Kolb will work with the starting unit, Reid said. If McNabb is not available for Sunday's home opener against New Orleans, Reid said he hasn't determined who will back up Kolb. Michael Vick is suspended for the first two regular-season games to complete penalties for bankrolling a dogfighting ring."
Brown may be 1 of 19 cuts
"More than a half hour after the final snap of the preseason, Reggie Brown slumped in a folding chair before his locker, shirtless but with his green pants still on. The Eagles receiver appeared relaxed, at ease, pensive and comfortable. "I'm just working for the weekend," he said. Not everyone will be today. Every NFL team must cut its roster to 53 before 6 p.m. The Eagles, who have 19 players to trim, have too many players at multiple positions, especially wide receiver and defensive end. They started the process Friday by releasing three reserves and restructuring the contract of defensive end Jason Babin. Terms of his deal weren't announced, but a source said his deal is still for one ..."
Dungy Says Goodell Could Rule 'Fairly Soon' on Vick
"Former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who has served as an adviser to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, said during a conference call with reporters Wednesday that he expects NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to rule "fairly soon" on Vick's eligibility to play in regular season games. The Eagles expect a ruling by Goodell by Saturday, ESPN reported. The league declined to comment on the report. NFL Network reported that the ruling is to be made by Monday. Each NFL team must trim its roster to 53 players by Saturday afternoon, and Vick's status could affect the Eagles' roster decisions. Goodell told reporters Tuesday that he would meet again soon with Vick. No definitive ..."
Source: Vick ruling likely by Saturday
"A source close to the situation last night said a ruling on Michael Vick's reinstatement seems likely before Saturday's 6 p.m. roster cutdown to the regular-season limit of 53.The source was commenting on an ESPN.com report yesterday that said the Eagles expect to know Vick's status by then. Eagles spokesman Derek Boyko said last night that the team does not know when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will rule.Goodell has said he would rule before Week 6 on Vick, who served 18 months in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting ring. Vick has not played in a regular-season game since the end of the 2006 season. He is scheduled to play extensively in the second half tonight, when the Birds ..."
Sources: Vick ruling likely by cut day
"The Philadelphia Eagles expect NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to issue a ruling on Michael Vick's possible full re-instatement before Saturday's mandatory league-wide cutdown to the 53-man roster, league sources told ESPN. Under the conditional re-instatement imposed in July, Vick may not begin playing in regular-season games until Goodell's notification, which must come by Week 6. But Eagles head coach Andy Reid and team president Joe Banner have been in weekly contact with Goodell, updating him on Vick's behavior and progress, while also seeking from the commissioner a clearer understanding of when he will rule on Vick's re-instatement. Goodell has wide latitude to make a ruling up to ..."
Eagles coach Reid expected to say Vick will play Thursday night
"At his news conference today, coach Andy Reid is expected to officially announce that quarterback Michael Vick will make his Eagles debut Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field. That was the gist of what Reid said on his WIP Radio show yesterday evening, or what hosts Howard Eskin and Merrill Reese inferred, and Reid did not contradict them. There was never any real doubt Vick would play in the first game he is eligible to take the field for since being reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell, but in remarks over the past week or so, Reid has hedged, perhaps not wanting the final tuneup for Eagles starters to be all about Vick. From what Reid said on the ..."
Michael Vick not barred from drinking
"Michael Vick did not violate the terms of his probation nor the conditions of his NFL reinstatement when he drank an alcoholic beverage on the night after his first practice since being released from prison, an Eagles spokesman said yesterday. The day after Vick's return to the field, a report in the New York Post described the new Eagles quarterback "sipping on a Grey Goose [vodka] and pineapple juice" at the Riverbend Bar & Grill, a restaurant at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott. On July 27, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell detailed the conditions of Vick's reinstatement in a letter. He wrote that the former Atlanta Falcons player, who was incarcerated for 18 months on a dogfighting ..."
Reid planning to play Vick on Thursday
"If all goes according to coach Andy Reid's plan during practice this week, Michael Vick will make his first appearance as the Eagles' quarterback when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars in a preseason game at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night. Though Reid gave no solid commitment Saturday, he did say, "There's a chance. I want to see again how [Vick] does this week. Right now, that's the plan." Vick signed with the Eagles on Aug. 13, but was not allowed to play in last Thursday's preseason game against Indianapolis under the provisions of his suspension from the league. Instead, Vick has been working overtime with quarterbacks coach James Urban and offensive coordinator Marty ..."
Weaver, Stacy Andrews could be back for Jags
"Eagles fullback Leonard Weaver's sprained left knee doesn't appear to be all that serious, and starting right guard Stacy Andrews might make his preseason debut Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars.Weaver sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee on the Eagles' first offensive play Thursday vs. the Indianapolis Colts. He left the game and did not return."My leg got caught up in some traffic with some linemen and I went down," Weaver said. "It's definitely a lot better. I feel good."Weaver took part in the Eagles' walk-through session before practice, but he was one of five players unable to practice. The other four were tackle Shawn Andrews (back), guard Todd ..."
Donovan McNabb says signing Plaxico Burress would be worth a shot
"Donovan McNabb, who endorsed the Eagles bringing in convicted felon Michael Vick, said Mondayhe would not be opposed to the team adding former Giant Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress. The wide receiver faces a trial on gun possession charges in New York and a potential NFL suspension. "I don't think he would hurt," McNabb said. "We have some great guys here at our receiver position but whatever you can do to enhance the team, you would look into it.""
McNabb, Vick may play together
"Donovan McNabb said he has no problem with Michael Vick taking some of his snaps and warned opponents that the two quarterbacks could be on the field together at times. The Philadelphia Eagles signed Vick last week to add a different dimension to the team's offense, not to push McNabb for a starting job. It's likely that Vick, a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback in six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, will be used in a variation of the Wildcat formation. But even in that scenario, McNabb won't necessarily be watching from the sideline. "I'll be a receiver. I might be a tight end," he said with a smile Monday. "You never know where I'll be." It's uncertain whether the Eagles would risk ..."
Ingram's rookie year may be over already after ACL tear
"The Eagles knew they took a chance when they drafted Cornelius Ingram in the fifth round of the draft after he had missed the entire season at the University of Florida with a torn ACL. It looks like that might happen again after Ingram was diagnosed with the exact same injury to the exact same knee. Ingram originally suffered the injury Tuesday in a goal-line drill. It was diagnosed then as a hyperextension, until an MRI on Saturday showed the tear. "It wasn't what we anticipated," Eagles coach Andy Reid said upon learning the diagnosis. Reid said it was too soon to tell if Ingram will be place on injured reserve, which would effectively end his season. But he didn't sound optimistic ..."
Eagles lose Ingram for season
"The biggest injury concern for the Eagles after yesterday morning's practice was wide receiver DeSean Jackson.By the end of the afternoon, the really bad news was that tight end Cornelius Ingram's rookie season had ended before it started. For the second straight year on almost the same day, Ingram tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The extent of the injury, which will require season-ending surgery, was revealed during an MRI examination yesterday.Ingram was injured Tuesday, one day before the one-year anniversary of the same injury that cost him his senior season at the University of Florida."He tore the ACL on the same knee that he had the surgery on in a goal-line ..."
Eagles not interested in signing running back
"With Brian Westbrook recovering from ankle surgery and a lot of inexperience behind the star running back, some might wonder if the Eagles should sign one of the veteran running backs still standing in the unemployment line. The Eagles say no."We're a little inexperienced, but at this point at running back we think we have some real quality people there," Eagles president Joe Banner said yesterday. "We expect that we're going to go into camp and the guys we have are going to put us in a good position to be successful. Running back is one of those positions where younger players can step in and have success."Warrick Dunn and Edgerrin James are among the veteran backs still available. The ..."
Talks progressing on contract for Eagles draft pick Maclin
"Agent Jim Steiner said yesterday evening that no contentious issues have arisen in talks with the Eagles over a contract for first-round draft choice Jeremy Maclin."We've talked, and talks should intensify over the next 72 hours, certainly," Steiner said.Maclin, drafted 19th overall, is due to report to Lehigh for training camp with other Eagles rookies Sunday afternoon. Steiner said the fact that the players selected right around Maclin haven't signed yet won't keep him from reaching agreement on a pact for the wideout from Missouri, who was projected to go much higher than he was taken.More than a month ago, a source close to Maclin told the Daily News that Maclin chose Steiner and ..."
Eagles eye Hollis Thomas for defensive line
"The Eagles might want to add some heft where they are thin. The team brought free agent defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, once a stalwart on the line for the Eagles, to the NovaCare Complex in June. Team spokesman Derek Boyko said yesterday that Thomas, who played for the New Orleans Saints the last three seasons, was then given a physical. The mammoth tackle - 6-foot, 335 pounds as of last season - was not signed to a contract, but remains on the Eagles' radar, according to a team source. News of Thomas' visit was first reported by scout.com."
Eagles, McCoy agree on four-year contract
"The Eagles signed second-round draft pick LeSean McCoy to a four-year contract on Monday, leaving first-round pick Jeremy Maclin as the team's lone unsigned draft pick. McCoy, a running back out of Pittsburgh, is competing with third-year pro Lorenzo Booker for the No. 2 running back job, a significant role in coach Andy Reid's offense given the track record of major injuries to starter Brian Westbrook. Westbrook is currently going through rehab on his right ankle after undergoing surgery last month to remove bone fragments and treat tendon inflammation. He also underwent knee surgery earlier this year, and his availability for training camp is uncertain. Training camp for rookies and ..."
Rosenhaus says tight end Ingram to sign with Eagles
"Hanging out in the NovaCare parking lot yesterday, soaking up the ambience, was agent Drew Rosenhaus, who said he was waiting to confer with a couple of clients. This made confirming reports that Rosenhaus had reached agreement on contract terms with the Eagles on behalf of fifth-round rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram much easier than if we'd had to subscribe to his Twitter feed. The team apparently is waiting until today to announce the signing, because it needs to trim someone from the roster before adding Ingram - when you're an unsigned rookie, you don't count toward the limit, but once your contract is registered, you do. The Eagles had already signed five of their eight draftees this ..."
McNabb talks vaguely of contract status
"Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb indicated yesterday in a vague fashion that there might be progress on a reworked contract.Asked about the situation, McNabb said that it "will take care of itself."McNabb spoke at his ninth annual Kids' Clinic at the NovaCare complex. During most of a six-minute interview he avoided questions pertaining to the contract that he previously said he would like to see extended.McNabb, who is entering his 11th season with the Eagles, first expressed this desire late last season and reiterated it early during Super Bowl week. He hadn't spoken to local reporters since that Super Bowl week interview.McNabb has two years left on a seven-year extension he signed in ..."
Westbrook may sit until opener
"The Eagles say they're comfortable with their running back depth, no matter how shaky it gets. And lately, it's been getting more unsteady by the day. Roughly an hour before an announcement that Brian Westbrook's ankle surgery would keep the Pro Bowl running back sidelined indefinitely, the Eagles were further limited at running back when rookie LeSean McCoy left practice with a severe thumb injury. Projections say Westbrook is unlikely to play during the preseason but should be ready to go when the season starts. Lorenzo Booker, McCoy's top competition to be Westbrook's backup, took the majority of snaps after McCoy left the practice bubble for X-rays that turned up negative. The other ..."
Westbrook should be ready for season
"Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook had surgery on his right ankle on Friday and is expected to be ready for the regular season. The procedure was done in Baltimore by specialist Dr. Mark Myerson. He removed scar tissue and bone fragments from the ankle, which Westbrook initially injured last season in Week 3 against Pittsburgh. "Brian is doing well, he texted us and said he's doing well," trainer Rick Burkholder said. "We feel pretty comfortable that he'll be back by the beginning of the season. Whether he'll be back for training camp or not, it's too early to tell." According to ESPN 950 Philadelphia, Westbrook cannot put weight on his leg for two weeks. After that, the ..."
Eagles hold breath on Westbrook surgery
"The Eagles' running attack is in limbo as the team awaits word on Brian Westbrook's ankle surgery this morning in Baltimore.
