Philadelphia Eagles Trade Rumors

Plaxico wants to sign with Eagles
"After a pedestrian return season with the New York Jets, Plaxico Burress is apparently looking for a new team -- and guess who's atop the wide receiver's wish list. The Eagles. The former Giant who spent nearly two years in jail on a gun charge, told NBC10's Howard Eskin that he wants to play for the Eagles."
Poll: Vick most disliked athlete in America
"Michael Vick just completed his third season with the Eagles, but still, enough time hasn't passed. Vick is the most disliked athlete in America, according to a survey done by Nielson and E-Poll Market Research published by Forbes. Vick took the top spot by edging out golfer Tiger Woods. Both scored a 60 percent, but more folks polled said they "disliked a lot" in reference to Vick. It seems like after Vick became the starting quarterback for the Eagles, the public outrage locally has dissolved some, but this poll shows that Vick is still disliked nationally for his dog fighting past."
Report: Eagles, Jackson drastically differ on WR's worth
"The contract status of wide receiver DeSean Jackson has lingered around the Philadelphia Eagles for almost an entire year. It's no secret the two-time Pro Bowl receiver is unhappy with the contract, and the story will only gain momentum as the Eagles enter the offseason and Jackson gets closer to possible free-agent status. The sides reportedly haven't been close to a new deal, and the Philadelphia Daily News reported Saturday that not much progress had been made. Jackson just finished the final year of his four-year rookie contract that was scheduled to pay him $600,000 in 2011."
Eagles TE Celek a passenger in car involved in DUI crash
"State police say Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek was a passenger in a car involved in an early-morning DUI crash. No one was hurt in Thursday morning's crash on a highway off-ramp near the team's stadium in South Philadelphia. Police say the car's driver was driving too fast when he spun out and hit a concrete barrier around 2:30 a.m. The driver failed field sobriety testing and was arrested on DUI charges."
Raiders reportedly interview Marty Mornhinweg for head coaching job
"Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg interviewed with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie on Friday for Oakland's head coaching vacancy, according to NFL.com. Mornhinweg spent the past nine seasons with the Eagles, the past eight as their assistant head coach/offensive coordinator. In Philadelphia, Mornhinweg directed one of the league's most productive offenses. He coached the Detroit Lions in 2001-02, compiling a 5-27 record. Mornhinweg attended Oak Grove High in San Jose and coached for the 49ers from 1997-2000. McKenzie and Mornhinweg could not be reached for comment. A Raiders official said the team won't comment on the coaching search until someone is hired."
If Spags comes, would Vikings want Castillo?
"By this point, you've heard all the rumors and reports about Steve Spagnuolo coming back to Philly to be the Eagles' defensive coordinator. It hasn't happened yet (Andy Reid was on vacation this past week) but it still seems like it would make sense. If it does happen, the Eagles will have another decision to make. They'll have to decide what to do with Juan Castillo. They could fire him or they just move him into another spot in the organization. But 1500ESPN Twin Cities' Tom Pelissero offers another solution. Maybe the Eagles would let Castillo leave and join another team, perhaps the Vikings."
Grigson's departure could leave more than one vacancy for Eagles
"Ryan Grigson, the Eagles' director of player personnel for the past two seasons, left the team Wednesday to become the Colts' general manager. Grigson, anIndiana native and former Purdue standout, leaves a front-office vacancy for the Eagles, but his departure could also cause some major changes on the coaching staff, especially if Grigson cleans house inIndianapolis and brings along some Eagles coaches to fill out his staff. One of Grigson's first major decisions as Colts general manager concerns the fate of Jim Caldwell, who just wrapped up his third season as head coach.Caldwellwent 2-14 without his star quarterback, Peyton Manning, who missed the whole season after undergoing neck"
NFL Network Spags 'report' only speculation
"Upon further review ... NFL Network is not reporting that Steve Spagnuolo's return to the Eagles is a done deal. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora appeared to report Tuesday morning that Spagnuolo, fired last week after three years as head coach of the Rams, was set to rejoin Andy Reid's coaching staff, perhaps as defensive coordinator and perhaps in another role working alongside Juan Castillo. "Spagnuolo, let go by the St. Louis Rams last week, is expected to be back in Philadelphia by the end of the week," La Canfora wrote."

Front office moves could be near
"Changes could be in store for the Eagles' front office if Ryan Grigson leaves for a vacant general manager post. The team has given permission to Grigson, their director of player personnel for the past two years, to interview for at least two general manager openings, two sources confirmed to Gannett Media. The Colts and Rams have expressed interest in Grigson, who was promoted to his current post after four seasons as the Eagles' director of college scouting. He originally joined the team in 2002 as a regional scout, covering the Western region, after starting his scouting career with the Rams. If he leaves, the team would likely consider promoting Louis Riddick, who was promoted to"
Lurie: Reid will return as Eagles head coach
"Andy Reid will be back for a 14th season as head coach of the Eagles, owner Jeff Lurie said Tuesday in his first public comments in five months. Lurie, meeting the media for the first time since training camp in August, said Reid will return as head coach in 2012 despite the team's hugely disappointing 8-8 season and a third consecutive season without a playoff win. Reid's tenure has been marked by consistent regular-season success -- since Reid took over for Ray Rhodes in 1999, only the Colts have reached the playoffs more often -- without a championship to show for it."
Next for the Birds: Reid and Castillo
"Now that the season is over, there are two questions that must be answered before the Eagles can begin thinking about re-signing DeSean Jackson or signing or drafting anyone else: Should Andy Reid return as head coach? And should Juan Castillo return as defensive coordinator? Naturally, after Sunday's win over Washington, Reid didn't want to discuss whether he thought he'd return for a 14th season. "For all of those kinds of questions, I have no answers for you on all of that," he said. "I haven't thought about all of that, and I'm not going to start right now. I'm going to enjoy this win and the New Year." If it were up tight end Brent Celek, Reid would return. "I think that Andy is going"
Staying with Eagles fine with Jackson
"DeSean Jackson's detractors possibly received their New Year's wish Sunday because the talented but troubled wide receiver might have played his last game with the Eagles. If so, Jackson left half-filled Lincoln Financial Field with another memorable moment, splitting two helpless Washington defenders with his speed and gliding under a 62-yard touchdown toss early in the fourth quarter of the Eagles' season-ending 34-10 win over the Redskins. Afterward, speaking softly as usual, Jackson's words said that he hoped to play next year in Philadelphia. But, just like being on the receiving end of a TD pass, it will take two to make it happen. Jackson has now finished the final year of his"
Washburn could be the wild card in Philly
"With rumors and reports swirling that Steve Spagnuolo could land in Philly as the defensive coordinator if/when (when) he's fired as the head coach of the Rams, there's an important factor to consider regarding the possible return of Spags to Philly. Defensive line coach Jim Washburn and Spagnuolo may not be able to co-exist. Washburn, we're told, is wired tightly and requires a fairly wide berth. His players love him because Washburn spends so much time and effort trying to get them stats, even if a sack-friendly approach like the "Wide Nine" (Jason Babin has 18.0 and Trent Cole has 10.0) invites running games to gash the interior of the defense."
Vick confident he'll have DeSean back
"Will Michael Vick have DeSean Jackson to throw to next year? He's optimistic, although he just smiles when asked why. Jackson's contract expires after the Eagles-Redskins game, and unless the Eagles sign Jackson to a long-term deal or slap the franchise tag on him, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in March, free to sign with any team in the league. Jackson's touchdown and big-play numbers are down this year, but he's one of the top 10 receivers in the NFL since entering the league in 2008. "I think it'll all work itself out," Vick said at his locker Friday, after the Eagles' final practice of the year. "We were just out at practice, and you could just see the glow and the sparkle"
Vick expects Jackson to be back
"DeSean Jackson hurried past reporters who had gathered around his locker Friday afternoon after practice. Asked if he could stop and talk to the media, the Pro Bowl wideout shook his head and muttered something barely coherent. And so everyone was left to wonder: Did Jackson just finish his final practice in an Eagles uniform? Jackson and quarterback Michael Vick shook hands before Jackson left, and Vick ended up being the spokesperson for his teammate and the contract dispute that still separates Jackson from a long-term future with the Eagles. "I think it will all work itself out," Vick said. "I think DeSean … you know he was just out at practice and you could just see the glow and the"
Reid, Eagles won't talk off-season changes
"As the final days of the 2011 season dwindle away, the Eagles remain focused on their game Sunday against the Redskins and not on the possibility of dramatic change this off-season. "All that stuff is really out of our control," defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said. "Our coaches are our coaches, and right now, the only thing that's on our mind is getting ready for the Redskins and trying to finish strong and get to 8-8. Any time we spend worrying about stuff that's out of our control is going to take away from our focus on the Redskins." Reid declined to comment on Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, a Jim Johnson disciple who spent 1999 through 2006 here with Reid and Johnson, coaching both"
Report: Spagnuolo will be Eagles' DC
"League sources have said for weeks that Kroenke plans to clean house after the season, firing both head coach Steve Spagnuolo and General Manager Billy Devaney. League sources also said this week that it is all but certain that Spagnuolo will join Andy Reid's staff in Philadelphia as the Eagles' defensive coordinator. Devaney, who was the Chargers Director of Player Personnel from 1990-2000, will not be a candidate in San Diego."
DeSean 'definitely' wants to return
"A funny thing happened after the Eagles' win over the Cowboys Saturday. DeSean Jackson began talking about next year. Next year? "Our future is going to be bright," Jackson said at his locker after the Eagles won their third straight game, 20-7, over the Cowboys (see story). "This is really our first year playing together with the new additions, and it's a year under our belt, so next year we can come back and keep doing what we're doing." Next year is something Jackson hasn't talked about at all this year, especially in terms of spending it with the Philadelphia Eagles."
Eagles add WR Hamler to practice squad
"The Eagles added wide receiver Jamel Hamler to their practice squad Tuesday. Hamler moved into the spot that became available Monday when the Eagles promoted defensive tackle Cedric Thornton to the 53-man roster after placing Steve Smith on injured reserve. Hamler, 6-foot-2, 195, spent the preseason with the Broncos and caught one pass in two preseason games before going on injured reserve."
Eagles' McCoy eyes NFL rushing title
"A running back in Andy Reid's offense winning the rushing title? Sounds inconceivable, right? Not to LeSean McCoy. The Eagles haven't produced an NFL rushing champion in more than 60 years but McCoy, who had the lead until recently falling three yards behind Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew, said Monday that personal milestones aren't foremost on his mind. His team is 4-8 and another loss Sunday to Miami threatens to officially eliminate them from postseason contention."
Maclin expects to play for Eagles in Miami
"Barring any setbacks, Jeremy Maclin will practice Wednesday and play Sunday against the Dolphins. It's been a rough three weeks for the third-year wideout who was leading the Eagles in receiving and — besides a few fumbles — having the best season of his career, and one of the best in franchise history, before being sidelined by hamstring and shoulder injuries. "It's been tough, man," Maclin said Monday, after being withheld from a light practice for precautionary reasons. "Other than my freshman year of college, when I tore my ACL, this is the most time I've missed. "I'm frustrated, but like I said, I tried to come back once and I just wasn't ready, so I had to wait until I was ready this"
Asomugha back at practice after concussion
"Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha practiced Monday just four days after suffering a concussion during the Eagles' loss to the Seahawks in Seattle. Head coach Andy Reid said on his WIP radio show Monday evening that Asomugha has already been cleared through the NFL-mandated concussion testing protocol by an independent neurosurgeon. Reid said after the game Thursday that Asomugha had suffered a concussion and a stinger. Reid said Asomugha "did well" Monday at the Eagles' first practice since their 31-14 loss to the Seahawks in Seattle on Thursday evening."
To save his job, Reid will have to fire Castillo
"The status of Eagles coach Andy Reid has — and will continue to be — a major topic for the balance of the season. Before Thursday night's ugly loss to the Seahawks, it was believed that Reid would be back, in large part because the Eagles are stuck with Mike Vick for at least one more year. Even after the debacle that dropped the Dream Team to 4-8, there's a sense that Reid will be back. But it won't be automatic. Per a league source, Reid's future will hinge on his willingness to admit that it was a mistake to shift Juan Castillo from offensive line coach to defensive coordinator. If Reid concedes that he erred, and rectifies the blunder by firing Castillo, Reid will stay. If he"
When coaches get fired this year, who will replace them?
"Nearly a third of all NFL head-coaching jobs could become vacant after the 2011 season. In addition to the Jaguars, teams that could (emphasis "could") make a change presently include, in no particular order other than the order in which I scan through the league's eight divisions, the Dolphins, Colts, Chiefs, Chargers, Giants, Eagles, Vikings, Buccaneers, and Rams. So who will replace these coaches? Beyond Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, and Jeff Fisher, there aren't many (any) obvious candidates. Let's consider the three categories from which head coaches typically emerge: former NFL head coaches, current NFL assistant coaches, and college head coaches. Former NFL head coaches: In the hopes"
If Andy Reid dumped by Eagles, San Diego may beckon
"Andy Reid has two years left on his contract. With the Eagles struggling to stay relevant, and their fans publicly clamoring for Reid to be fired, speculation is growing about where he might end up after this season. If Reid doesn't return to the Eagles, there is talk the San Diego Chargers would be at the top of the list. Reid is a West Coast guy. He owns a place in the San Diego area. Big Red's success developing quarterbacks would make him a fit with David Rivers, whose inconsistency is killing the Chargers. There also is speculation the Jacksonville Jaguars could move to California. If that picks up steam count on Reid being mentioned as a coaching possibility with the Jaguars, who"
Eagles RB McCoy expected to start vs. Seahawks
"Barring a setback in pre-game warm-ups, the Philadelphia Eagles expect running back LeSean McCoy to start in Thursday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to a team source. McCoy is officially listed as questionable with a toe injury that has limited his practice participation all week."
Eagles place Fokou on IR; promote Lloyd
"On Tuesday, the Eagles placed Moise Fokou on the injured reserve list, ending the linebacker's season. To fill Fokou's slot on the roster, the Eagles have signed Greg Lloyd off the practice squad. Fokou, a third-year guy out of Maryland, hurt his ankle in the second half in the Eagles' 38-20 loss to New England. Fokou began the season as the starting weakside linebacker. After two games, he was moved to the strongside. He stayed there until he lost his starting spot in favor of veteran Akeem Jordan for the Arizona game."
Injury update: No Vick, Maclin; Shady limited
"According to Andy Reid, quarterback Michael Vick is making progress but he's still not ready to practice. During his morning press conference, Reid said that Vick (ribs) would throw on the side but would not officially participate in the practice. "He's making progress every day," Reid said. "Right now he just cant torque, can't put the heavy torque on the ball without feeling some pain there. Until that goes away, he can't throw consistently.""
Vick on injury: 'It's getting better'
"Michael Vick still isn't sure if he'll be able to play Thursday night when the Eagles face the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Still nursing broken ribs, Vick did not participate in the Eagles' walkthrough Monday afternoon. "It's getting better. That's all I can say," Vick said. Better enough for you to play against Seattle? "We'll see," he said."
Smith Big Apple bound?
"Eagles wide receiver Steve Smith returned to New York for a game this past Sunday, but it would hardly be a surprise if he wound up returning there with the Giants after his contract expires, as well. Some people who know Smith believe he is open to going back to the team he left this past summer. He also could rejoin his former college coach, Pete Carroll, in Seattle, but no team makes more sense or is more appealing to Smith than the Giants. Smith and the Eagles have not been the fit either side hoped. Philadelphia dangled him at the trade deadline, and the Giants will have a need at the position because wide receiver Mario Manningham is scheduled to become a free agent after this"
Source: Asomugha sore but knee injury not serious
"Nnamdi Asomugha's scary knee injury turned out to be not as serious as it looked, and although the four-time all-pro cornerback is said to be sore, his knee has no structural damage, a league source said Thursday. Although the Eagles can breathe a sigh of relief that Asomugha did not suffer a season-ending injury, his status for the Eagles' crucial game against Tom Brady and the Patriots remains unknown. The Eagles and Patriots meet at 4:15 p.m. Sunday at the Linc."
Eagles' Asomugha suffers knee injury
"The Eagles hope Nnamdi Asomugha is back at practice today after being carted off the field late into Thursday's practice with a knee injury. The team didn't provide any further details of the Pro Bowl cornerback's injury after Asomugha fell to the ground during a non-contact drill and stayed there for several minutes before being helped on the cart. Asomugha figured to be an important part of the team's pass defense Sunday against the New England Patriots, who have the NFL's second-ranked offense, at Lincoln Financial Field."
Asomugha carted off field during practice
"Multiple reports are popping up on Twitter from a variety of Eagles beat writers stating that Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha(notes) was carted off the field with a knee injury during Thursday morning's practice session. As of the current moment, there's no information regarding how serious the injury may be or whether or not the star cornerback will be able to play this Sunday when the New England Patriots come to town."
Vick to play if he is able
"The Eagles not only have the NFL market cornered on underachieving, but also over-the-top drama. Each week, a new soap opera storyline emerges from the locker room. From Asante Samuel accusing the front office of playing Fantasy Football to DeSean Jackson being suspended for missing a meeting, the Eagles are more fun to follow than the Kardashians. However, don't expect a quarterback controversy this season."
Eagles' Vick, DeSean miss practice
"Neither Michael Vick (ribs) nor DeSean Jackson (foot) practiced Wednesday as the Eagles prepare to face the Patriots Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Jeremy Maclin (shoulder, hamstring) returned to practice and was a limited participant. Head coach Andy Reid said Vick tested the ribs by throwing a little bit on Tuesday and is expected to do so again Wednesday. "It's getting better. It's just not there yet," Reid said Wednesday. "He didn't do much. He can still feel it." Vick's status for Sunday is uncertain."
Vick will try to throw today
"Lost in the Eagles' unexpected win over the Giants on Sunday night is that quarterback Mike Vick didn't play, due to a pair of broken ribs. With the Patriots coming to town on Sunday, the Eagles need all their best players back. It's unknown whether Vick will indeed be able to play, but a league source tells PFT that Vick will try to throw on Tuesday."
McCoy joins elite group of Eagles RBs
"LeSean McCoy's best run against the Giants came on his last carry. The Eagles' running back, who leads the NFL in rushing, broke off a 60-yard in the final minute and 11 seconds of the fourth quarter on his 23rd carry. He scampered from his own 38-yard-line to the New York 2, a major gain that allowed quarterback Vince Young to kneel out the remaining 58 seconds of the 17-10 road victory. McCoy had more yards in the final two minutes than he did for the first 58, when he had totaled just 53 rushing yards. "Well, he was fresh, although he told me he felt slow because he got caught," head coach Andy Reid said. "I thought he was fresh throughout the game, and that's not even saying what we"
DeSean leaves Giant win in walking boot
"After leading the Eagles with eight catches for 88 yards – and nearly pulling off another miraculous punt return – in Sunday night's improbable (is that strong enough? ... see story) 17-10 win over the Giants, DeSean Jackson strapped a walking boot on his right ankle. Early in the second quarter, Jackson made a diving 32-yard reception and briefly left with what was announced as a knee injury. After the game head coach Andy Reid said Jackson had gotten his "knee and his head checked, but everything checked out OK." What's with the boot? "A player stepped on my foot," Jackson said. "It's just a kind of a little sprain or whatever. It will be all right. The biggest thing is we got the win.""
Don't be surprised if Steve Smith becomes a Giant again
"Steve Smith left the Giants for the Eagles in free agency this year, and he's expecting a rude reception from Giants fans tonight. But there's already talk that Smith could be back with the Giants again next season. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that people who know Smith think he'd love to return to the Giants after the season, and that he believes the Giants are the best fit for him."
Eagles think Vick can play against Giants
"Practice. We're talking practice. Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg certainly didn't echo Allen Iverson's famed rant, but he did suggest quarterback Michael Vick could play Sunday night against the Giants at MetLife Stadium — even without practicing this week. "Sure, yeah," Mornhinweg said. "We've had many quarterbacks do that in the past." Vick didn't practice again Thursday, nursing two broken ribs sustained in last week's season-breaking loss to Arizona. In his place, backup quarterback Vince Young ran the first-team offense for the second straight day."
Eagles change linebackers in nickel passing schemes
"Earlier in the week, Andy Reid said "we're close" in reference to his 3-6 team because five of the Eagles' losses have been by seven or fewer points. Unless he is just being totally optimistic, the Eagles coach feels making a few tweaks here and there will help. Thursday, a small move was made when linebacker Keenan Clayton replaced Brian Rolle in the nickel package for passing situations. "I had to work my way into it, and now they are giving me a shot to do it," Clayton said after practice. "Now it is time to make some plays.""
Young is ready to sub for Vick
"When we last saw Vince Young for more than a brief snippet of action, he was throwing and running and leading the Eagles up and down the field against the Jets in the preseason finale. That was 2½ months ago. Since then, Young has taken three mostly forgettable snaps for the Eagles — a two-yard run, an interception and a handoff — as he is serving as a backup for the first time in his six NFL seasons. That could change this weekend against the Giants. Young, a two-time Pro Bowl selection with Tennessee, could start after Vick suffered two broken ribs against the Arizona Cardinals."
Eagles' Vick unlikely to play vs. Giants: report
"Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is unlikely to play Sunday night against the Giants after breaking two ribs in last Sunday's game, ESPN reported Wednesday. Vince Young and Mike Kafka were set to take the first-team quarterback snaps in Wednesday's practice, with Vick sitting out. Head coach Andy Reid said Vick's ribs remain sore, but would not rule out the Pro Bowler for Sunday's trip to New Jersey."
Young appears likely to start Sunday if Vick can't
"Veteran Vince Young practiced with the first-team offense at the Eagles' Wednesday morning walkthrough, a strong indication that Young – and not Mike Kafka – will start at quarterback against the Giants Sunday night if injured Michael Vick can't play. Eagles head coach Andy Reid said at his Wednesday afternoon media availability that Young and Kafka would split reps at practice later Wednesday with Vick unavailable after breaking two ribs in the Eagles' loss to the Cards on Sunday. Reid declined to comment on how he planned to split up the reps. "We'll just see," he said. "We'll see how it works out.""
Timing of Vick's rib injury raises questions
"To start his Monday press conference, Eagles coach Andy Reid announced out of the blue that quarterback Mike Vick suffered broken ribs during Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Specifically, Reid said the injury occurred on the team's second play from scrimmage. Eagles running back LeSean McCoy recently told WIP that he believed the injury happened late in the game. Shown the second play, which entailed Vick taking a hit that didn't look particularly nasty after throwing a pass to tight end Brent Celek, McCoy chuckled and said that Vick wasn't hurt on the play."
Dunlap likely to start at left guard
"The Eagles likely will have another new offensive guard for their next game. This one won't be hard to spot. Towering reserve offensive tackle King Dunlap, a 6-foot-9, 330-pound giant, practiced at left guard Wednesday in place of an injured Evan Mathis. Dunlap is gearing up to play there Sunday against the Cardinals at Lincoln Financial Field with Mathis sidelined by turf toe, the same injury that kept Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb out of last Sunday's game and is expected to sideline the former Eagles quarterback this weekend for his homecoming."
Reid plans no changes on defense
"If Eagles coach Andy Reid is planning to make any changes in his pass defense personnel, he didn't let on during his Tuesday press conference. After the Bears converted a flurry of third-and-long conversions in Monday night's 30-24 win over the Eagles, with quarterback Jay Cutler often connecting with slot receiver Earl Bennett against Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and sometimes Nnamdi Asomugha, Reid suggested that his cornerbacks would improve in time but wouldn't have their roles changed."
Report: Eagles talking new deal with McCoy
"The Eagles have made a habit of locking up their young talent to long-term deals, and it looks like LeSean McCoy may be next. According to ProFootballTalk.com, McCoy has been negotiating a contract with the Eagles that will replace his current rookie deal, which expires after next season. McCoy is currently making $525,000. To this point, the negotiations have been kept quiet."
