Bills Trade Rumors

Edwards won't play Sunday
"Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his first career home start for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday when the Houston Texans visit Ralph Wilson Stadium. It might not be on an interim basis, either. Despite starting quarterback Trent Edwards being medically cleared to return to practice after suffering a concussion Oct. 18 against the New York Jets, Bills coach Dick Jauron declared him out for Sunday's game, and more importantly would not commit to him as the starter when he is fully recovered. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," is all Jauron had to say about who might start when Edwards is healthy enough to play. Houston Chronicle staff discusses injuries and the Buffalo Bills. Fitzpatrick ..."
Bills work out journeyman QB Ramsey
"The Bills gave a workout Tuesday to veteran quarterback Patrick Ramsey, according to a league source. Ramsey, 30, was released by Tennessee on Oct. 3. He had signed with the Titans in April to be the third stringer behind Kerry Collins and Vince Young. But the Titans cut him to make room for more cornerback depth. It remains to be seen how quickly Bills quarterback Trent Edwards can come back from his second concussion in a year. Bills coach Dick Jauron said Monday that Edwards began working out on Monday and was scheduled to begin football workouts today. However, Jauron said Edwards already has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Houston."
Edwards out, Fitzpatrick will start at QB
"Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards stayed home again Friday and was ruled out for Sunday's game at Carolina. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start at quarterback, and Gibran Hamdan will be the backup. The Bills reported Edwards has not had any setbacks in trying to recover from a concussion he suffered in last week's game at East Rutherford, N.J. Asked how Edwards was doing, Bills coach Dick Jauron said: "As far as I know, and I haven't seen him but I have finally texted him — they allowed me to text him — he says he's doing better, and [trainer] Bud [Carpenter] says he's doing better also." Edwards reported to the Bills' offices on Thursday to meet with the team's medical staff. Jauron said on ..."
Buffalo Bills quiet on status of Edwards
"The status of Bills quarterback Trent Edwards remained status quo on Monday, meaning his condition will not be updated publicly until at least Wednesday. Coach Dick Jauron said Edwards was able to fly back from New York with the team Sunday night, but he had no more details on the concussion Edwards suffered in the second quarter of Buffalo's 16-13 victory over the Jets. "We'll take that day to day and see how he comes out of this thing," Jauron said. Edwards was replaced by backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, who helped lead Buffalo back from a 13-3 halftime deficit. Fitzpatrick completed only 10 of 25 passes for 116 yards on a windy day at the Meadowlands, but one was a perfectly thrown slant to ..."
Terrell Owens might not be help some believe
"We're talking wide receivers today -- specifically, how the Bears couldn't be blamed for having wide receiver envy. In their entire history, they have had only five Pro Bowl wide receivers -- and only one in the last 37 years. Chances are they will not have one this year, as usual. This has led some to light a candle for Terrell Owens. Last week there was talk -- unfounded talk, but talk nonetheless -- that the Bears could be interested in the controversial wide receiver. And what would the Bears have gained by trading for T.O.? In the NFL this season, 56 players have more receiving yards than Owens' 202. And the Bears have three players -- Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and Devin Hester -- who ..."
T.O. says he's committed to Bills
"There was a suggestion made by a reporter at ESPN on Tuesday that the Buffalo Bills should consider trading wide receiver Terrell Owens before the NFL's Tuesday trading deadline. And the logic isn't flawed because the Bills — who clearly have not been able to utilize Owens thus far — could get a draft pick in return for a player who will likely walk away at the end of the season with no return. However, coach Dick Jauron said there have been no trade discussions, and Owens isn't really interested. "Whether it happens or not I don't know," Owens said. "I'm committed right here until it does happen. I'm not saying that it will, but I'm committed (to Buffalo)." New players at work: With two ..."
Bills in free-fall, but Jauron still hangs on
"Dick Jauron showed up for work Monday, just as he has after every game in his three-plus years as Buffalo Bills head coach. A lot of Bills fans woke up Monday morning hoping to hear that Jauron was unemployed, but were chagrined by the news that he remains in charge of a team seemingly headed in the wrong direction. The heat on Jauron intensified after Sunday's embarrassing 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. It was the third straight defeat for the Bills, who have a 1-4 record. It was also their second straight loss to a previously winless team. Jauron is the most unpopular of the four coaches the Bills have had since Marv Levy stepped down after the 1997 season. Ninety percent of the 5,000 ..."
Posluszny hopes to return against Jets
"Help is on the way for the Buffalo Bills' beleaguered linebackers. The team added veteran free agent Chris Draft on Tuesday, and might be on the verge of getting one of their own back. A source within the team told The Buffalo News that linebacker Paul Posluszny has told teammates he hopes to play Sunday when the Bills visit the New York Jets. Posluszny, who has missed the past four games with a broken arm suffered in the season opener at New England, was originally expected to miss six weeks with the injury. Posluszny was in the locker room Monday for a brief time while reporters were allowed access, but declined an interview request. Posluszny had surgery to repair a broken bone in his ..."
No fantasy landing of T.O.
"Since fantasy football is taking over the world, why not bring its principles to the real NFL. The Buffalo Bills are terrible, their offense is horrid, their coaching staff is stupid and wide receiver Terrell Owens is so overpaid and under-used that he might as well be bronzed and placed by Lake Erie above a plaque reading: ''IF YOU WANT TO DISAPPEAR FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH, COME TO BUFFALO AND HANG OUT WITH DICK JAURON.'' The first T.O.-as-trade-bait items are now hitting the fantasy wire, so let's think about him with the Bears. Already ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter has floated the notion that the Bills should get rid of the biceps-pumping, always-me-first Owens before next Tuesday's ..."

Parrish the thought, trade Roscoe
"Dick Jauron had spoken for six minutes Monday when a Bills public relations staffer informed us there would be time for one more question. All I could feel at that point was gratitude. I can barely stand to listen anymore. It's not just Jauron, either. Hardly anyone has anything interesting or sincere to say nowadays. Trent Edwards tells us Jauron is leading the team in the right direction. Alex Van Pelt says Edwards played his rear end off Sunday. I have the urge to yell out, "Please, somebody say what you're really thinking!" There is at least one player with the guts to speak his mind. It happens to be the smallest guy in the room, Roscoe Parrish, who makes no secret of the fact that he ..."
Bills owner Wilson not ready to change coaches
"Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson attended the Bills' Quarterback Club luncheon this afternoon at HSBC Arena and addressed coach Dick Jauron's status. "Yesterday was so bad that it's hard to make a decision right now," Wilson said. "I'm not going to make any decisions during the middle of the season right now. At least not right now." Wilson, who turns 91 on Saturday, tried to make light of the Bills' performance when he spoke to the fan club. "They can't do this to me much longer," he said. "There's not much I can say about yesterday except it was awful." Back at the stadium, Jauron would not address his status."
Bills in free-fall, but Jauron still hangs on

Bills' McKelvin has broken leg; Whitner to have surgery
"At the rate this is going, Buffalo Bills trainer Bud Carpenter might need to put in for overtime. A team that has been decimated by injuries in the first month of the season saw another starter go on the shelf Monday with the announcement that cornerback and kick returner Leodis McKelvin has a broken leg. There's more: Starting strong safety Donte Whitner was scheduled for surgery Monday afternoon on a thumb injury. Both Whitner and McKelvin were injured in Sunday's 27-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Jauron said Whitner would be evaluated week to week, but would not rule him out for Sunday at Miami. That won't be the case for McKelvin. "It will be a little longer ..."
RT Butler out for season for Buffalo Bills
"As expected, the news on Brad Butler Monday afternoon was not good. The Bills' starting right tackle will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury he suffered Sunday against Tampa Bay, and for the time being inexperienced fourth-year pro Jonathan Scott will take his place. "Unfortunately we will lose Brad for the year," Bills coach Dick Jauron said during a briefing with reporters. "We will miss Brad. That was a tough one. He will require surgery and it won't be scheduled for a little while and then I wouldn't get into the details." Butler wasn't alone on the trainers' table after the game. Tight end Derek Schouman also went down with a knee injury, cornerback Leodis McKelvin ..."
Bills' McGee signs extension, is questionable for Sunday
"Starting cornerback Terrence McGee has signed a contract extention with the Buffalo Bills. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. A fourth-round pick of the Bills in 2004, McGee has 16 interceptions in 90 career games. Meanwhile, McGee is questionable for Buffalo's game against Tampa Bay after missing practice today because of back spasms."
Bills sign ex-Patriots tight end
"With tight end Derek Fine out for Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions due to a sore hamstring, the Bills on Tuesday signed free agent tight end Tyson DeVree. He's a 6-foot-5, 245-pounder who spent nine weeks of last season on New England's practice squad. He appeared in two games for the Patriots. DeVree was undrafted out of Colorado. The Bills moved six players off the roster to get down to the NFL limit of 75 players. Waived were offensive lineman Chris Denman, linebacker Solomon Elimimian and receiver Shaine Smith. Placed on the waived-injured list were tight end Travis McCall, cornerback Lydell Sargeant and defensive tackle Marcus Smith. Bills coach Dick Jauron said Fine's injury ..."
Bills let five players go
"The Bills waived five players Thursday, not long after their mandatory minicamp ended. Undrafted rookies Joel Bell, John Faletoese and Gerald Washington along with first-year player Kyle Ward and veteran Blake Costanzo were waived. Costanzo was the only player who had previously appeared in an NFL game with the Bills, according to BuffaloBills.com. The linebacker was a special teams performer who had spent part of the last two seasons with the Bills. Three of the other players who were waived also play defense. Ward is a cornerback, Faletoese a tackle and Washington a defensive end, On offense Bell played right tackle during most of the minicamp. and worked hard, but with veteran Kirk ..."
Bills deny inquiring about a new stadium
"Buffalo Bills officials said today they have made no inquiries or plans to study the building of a new stadium. The question of a new stadium for Buffalo was raised in an article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. An executive of the firm that designed the new stadium for the Dallas Cowboys was asked about his company's prospects for future stadium construction. Mark Williams, associate principal architect for HKS Inc. stated: "We've been working with the [Minnesota] Vikings for about nine months, and they are still trying to get their funding. The [San Francisco] 49ers and the Buffalo Bills are thinking about doing something and also the [San Diego] Chargers and maybe the Atlanta Falcons. ..."
Bills' Kelsay rushes to keep his job
"Chris Kelsay has never had to worry about job security. But that was before the Buffalo Bills drafted fellow defensive end Aaron Maybin in the first round. That was before trade rumors surfaced earlier this offseason. It's enough to make a player feel uneasy about his future. But Kelsay only worries about the things he can control. "It'll play out however it plays out," Kelsay said after another day of organized team activities. "Just give it your all and do everything to the best of your ability. That's all you can control anyway." The Bills have never had to worry about Kelsay giving it his all. Throughout his career the seventh-year veteran has taken pride in playing hard on every snap. ..."
Bears likely closer to Tinoisamoa after Pats grab other linebacker
"According to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe, the Patriots have come to terms with linebacker Paris Lenon. That means Pisa Tinoisamoa, a player New England also entertained as an option, is likely out of the mix. That's good news for the Bears as they attempt to bring Tinoisamoa to Chicago. The former St. Louis Ram could start at strong-side linebacker, and he's already familiar with Lovie Smith's scheme. Smith was the defensive coordinator in St. Louis in 2003, the same year Tinoisamoa was drafted by the Rams."
Is IR system in line for a change?
"When the NFL adopted its system for placing players on season-ending injured reserve, the main issue was stashing. Teams had long been allowed to place players on injured reserve and bring them back later in the season. But some felt that clubs were circumventing the rule by placing players who weren't truly injured on IR, opening a roster spot for someone else. Thus, a competitive advantage was scored. Colts president Bill Polian remembers high-profile coaches and personnel executives, such as Don Shula and Jim Finks, pushing for a change to combat stashing, and it finally came in 1993, when the league made two significant adjustments. At that time, players placed on injured reserve would ..."
Whitner hoping for dismissal of charges
"Bills safety Donte Whitner defended himself Monday regarding his arrest last month in Cleveland and said he thinks charges against him will be dismissed. Whitner was charged with aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest outside a Cleveland nightclub. A brawl was taking place, and police said Whitner forced his way past police officers. A stun gun was used to restrain him. Whitner told police, "My cousin's out there, and they've got guns," according to a police report. "The latest is I have a court date tomorrow, and hopefully everything gets dropped tomorrow, and that's what my lawyer is telling me," Whitner said. "As far as my side of the story, I can assure everyone that I ..."
Ex-Rams linebacker Tinoisamoa in for visit
"The Buffalo Bills are going to take a look at a playmaking outside linebacker who could bolster their defense. St. Louis Rams free agent Pisa Tinoisamoa (pronounced Tee-noy- SAW-mo-ah) is scheduled to visit One Bills Drive today, according to a league source. The Bills strongly considered adding a veteran outside linebacker earlier this offseason when they brought in Cato June and Freddy Keiaho for free agent visits. It is not known if the Bills made an offer to either player. June eventually signed with the Houston Texans, while Keiaho reportedly is close to resigning with the Indianapolis Colts. Tinoisamoa, who turns 28 in July, would represent an upgrade over both of them. He is ..."
Bills on verge of trading Peters to Eagles for three draft picks
"Buffalo Bills left tackle Jason Peters appears to be headed to the Philadelphia Eagles. ESPN.com is reporting that the Bills and Eagles already have the framework of a deal. The Bills would receive the second of the Eagles' first-round draft picks (28th overall) and a fourth-rounder this year, plus an undisclosed selection in 2010. The trade is contingent upon Peters passing a physical and he and the Eagles agreeing on a contract extension. Negotiations with Peters' agent, Eugene Parker, began today. The Bills have tried for more than a year to lock up Peters with a long-term contract, but both sides were unable to bridge the wide gap between them. Peters, 27, who was voted to his second ..."
Bills may be leaning toward trading Jason Peters
"The Buffalo Bills don't want to lose Jason Peters. They believe he is one of the dominant left tackles in the National Football League. Some pro scouts think he is the best athlete at the position. Peters is still under contract. The problem is he wants a longer-term deal for a lot more money. How much? Think Jake Long and Jordan Gross-type money ($50 million to $60 million range). Peters and the Bills have been in discussions on an extension, but the two sides differ greatly on the worth of the two-time Pro Bowler. With the draft just two weeks away, the Bills have a decision to make. Do they continue to haggle with their disgruntled star and risk another lengthy holdout or do they pursue ..."
Bills no closer to trading Peters than to signing him
"For the past 72 hours, the Buffalo Bills have dominated NFL headlines. The league suspended Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch for three games, and star receiver Terrell Owens unexpectedly showed up for voluntary workouts. The most important offseason Bills story, however, regards neither of them. While cameras search for T.O. and questions swirl around Lynch's latest reprimand, contract angst roils again within left tackle Jason Peters. To say trouble's on the way would be false. It's already here. More precisely, it never went away. Just as he did last year by refusing to join the team until two days before the season opener, Peters still wants to be compensated like a franchise ..."
Parrish on the block; Bills sign lineman
"The Buffalo Bills are calling teams to see if they can trade Roscoe Parrish, a league source confirmed Thursday. Meanwhile, the Bills acted to fill a glaring need for depth on the offensive line by signing seven-year veteran Seth McKinney, a free agent from the Cleveland Browns. The Parrish inquiries are prompted by the fact the Bills believe they will have a logjam for playing time at wide receiver. Lee Evans and Terrell Owens are the starters. Josh Reed is the slot receiver. James Hardy was drafted in the second round last season. The coaches are high on second-year man Stevie Johnson, who brings size to the position. The Bills also re-signed Justin Jenkins, who is an ace on special ..."
Unhappy Jackson not at team workouts
"Running back Fred Jackson is a conspicuous absentee from Buffalo Bills offseason conditioning workouts. Virtually all of the Bills' young players are in attendance, and one would expect Jackson to be there, since he is an up-and-coming player entering his third NFL season. However, Jackson's contract with the Bills ran out in March, and he is dissatisfied with the Bills' contract offers so far. He has elected to work out on his own in Buffalo instead of at One Bills Drive. The Bills' offseason conditioning program entered its third week Monday, and Jackson was not in attendance. The program is voluntary. Because he has only two years tenure in the NFL, Jackson is an "exclusive rights free ..."
Peters, Bills far apart on new contract
"Buffalo Bills Chief Operating Officer Russ Brandon painted a less than optimistic picture regarding the possibility of a new contract agreement with left tackle Jason Peters. Speaking at the NFL owners meetings in Dana Point, Calif., last week, Brandon said talks with Peters' agent, Eugene Parker, are ongoing, but the two sides remain far apart. "We've had dialogue with Jason's representatives and we will continue to have dialogue," Brandon said. "Obviously, Jason is a tremendous football player and we would like to have Jason as a cornerstone for many years to come. But it takes two to come together. We spoke to Jason at the conclusion of the season. He knows how much he means to us. ..."
Lynch to meet with Goodell on Tuesday, expected to be suspended
"Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch will meet Tuesday with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in New York to discuss Lynch's arrest last month -- the second time in nine months he has been involved with the law. The expectation is that Lynch will be suspended, with persons close to the situation anticipating that Goodell probably punishes him for one but no more than two regular-season games. Any decision, however, will not take place until after Goodell sits down to interview the running back and allows him to defend himself. Lynch is expected to be accompanied by lawyers, as well as by members of the Buffalo Bills. It is not anticipated that the Bills will take action against the ..."
Crowell meets with the Bills about vacancy
"Linebacker Angelo Crowell traveled to Buffalo on Monday to have a meeting with the Bills, according to an NFL source. Crowell, who spent the last six seasons in the Bills' organization, was considered an unlikely candidate to return to Buffalo after sitting out all of last season with a knee injury. However, 19 days into the free agency season, Crowell still is looking for a job and the Bills still are looking for a starting outside linebacker. Crowell, 27, might be the best unrestricted free agent linebacker available. He visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Crowell gave the Bills three strong years as a starter from 2005 to '07. On the Thursday before the 2008 season opener in ..."
T.O., Manning could headline Bills-Colts Toronto game
"The Buffalo Bills added a major drawing card for their series of games in Toronto by signing Terrell Owens. Now, the NFL could take a big step toward doing the same by lining up an attractive opponent for this year's game. Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts are the NFL's leading choice to be the Bills' opponent, according to a league source. An announcement could come during the March 22-25 owners' meetings in Dana Point, Calif. The NFL, and especially Toronto promoters paying $74 million over five years for five Bills regular-season and three preseason games at Rogers Centre, were disappointed last year by sluggish ticket sales for a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and ..."
Peters, Bills aren't close to new contract
"The Buffalo Bills and Jason Peters still are a long way apart in negotiations on a new contract. Peters and the Bills, in fact, may be more than $3 million-a-year apart on their offers toward a long-term contract, league sources have told The News. There still is plenty of time for the two sides to negotiate, if both sides are committed to getting a deal done. However, the fact last year's talks went nowhere raises the prospect of another stalemate between the Bills and Peters. The NFL Draft is six weeks away. If the Bills are not closer to a deal as the draft approaches, they could opt to trade their most talented offensive lineman. It's believed Peters wants to be the highest-paid left ..."
Bills sign T.O to one-year deal worth $6.5 million
"Get your popcorn ready, Buffalo Bills fans. A relatively quiet offseason ended with a loud bang Saturday as the Bills signed dynamic but controversial free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens. The Bills did not release contract details, but an NFL source said Owens received a guaranteed one-year deal worth $6.5 million. "This is obviously a great day for the Buffalo Bills organization," Bills Chief Operating Officer Russ Brandon said during a news conference at the team's headquarters. "We're excited to have one of the premier playmakers in a playmakers' league." After Owens was released by the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday, the Bills moved swiftly. Brandon and members of the front office ..."
Terrell Owens lands in Buffalo
"On Wednesday night, Terrell Owens was told his popcorn act in Dallas had gotten stale. Saturday evening, Owens, wearing a red Buffalo Bills hat, was smiling and talking about popping some new popcorn. Owens signed a one-year contract worth $6.5 million with the Bills. The deal included a $4 million signing bonus. The signing of the petulant wide receiver brings the Bills onto the national stage. He leaves Dallas, one of the bigger media markets in the league, for one of the smallest. "I just have to create my own following up here in North America," Owens said. "I'm leaving America's Team to come to North America's team, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity and I'm excited about ..."
Bills to sign Owens to one-year deal
"The Buffalo Bills have scheduled a 6:15 p.m. news conference at One Bills Drive. A source has told The News' Mark Gaughan that the team will sign free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens to a one-year deal, worth $6.5 million guaranteed. Owens, who was released earlier this week by the Dallas Cowboys, has 951 career receptions for 14,122 yards and 139 touchdowns. He has had nine 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his 13-year NFL career."
Bills keep talking to free agents
"The free agent visits keep increasing for the Buffalo Bills, who brought in two more Friday. Mike Peterson, a veteran middle linebacker from Jacksonville, and former Kansas City defensive end Jason Babin were the latest to spend time at One Bills Drive. The Bills have met with 13 players in the past week. Their only signings to date are quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, center Geoff Hangartner and cornerback Drayton Florence. Peterson is a 10-year pro who spent his first four seasons in Indianapolis, where he was a 1999 second-round draft pick. He signed with Jacksonville in 2003. His visit is a bit curious with Paul Posluszny the established starter and backup John DiGiorgio re-signed ..."
Bills talk to Keiaho and Jones
"Another linebacker who looks like a good fit for Buffalo and another insurance policy for the offensive backfield visited One Bills Drive Thursday. The Bills met with linebacker Freddie Keiaho, who started the past two years for the Indianapolis Colts, and running back Kevin Jones, a former No. 1 draft pick of the Detroit Lions. Also meeting with Bills coaches was 37-year-old receiver Joey Galloway. Keiaho is another smallish but fast linebacker who fits the Tony Dungy-style defense that Buffalo runs. A three-year veteran, he was a restricted free agent this year, and the Colts did not make him a tender offer. If they had done so, they would have gotten a third-round pick in return if he ..."
Bills sign cornerback Florence
"The Buffalo Bills said hello to one cornerback and goodbye to another. The Bills and veteran cornerback Drayton Florence reached an agreement on a two-year contract, NFL sources said Tuesday night. The Bills haven't confirmed it, but according to league sources, Florence's deal is worth $6.6 million and it could increase to $7.3 million if he reaches unspecified incentives. His arrival likely means Jabari Greer's days in Buffalo are over. An unrestricted free agent, Greer has been visiting other teams after he and the Bills failed to come to terms on a new contract. Undrafted out of Tennessee, Greer started 26 games in five years with the Bills. He had 38 tackles and returned two ..."
Bills waiting as Greer, Coles remain unsigned
"Free agents Jabari Greer and Laveraneus Coles still were on the market late Monday, leaving open the possibility both still could wind up in a Buffalo Bills uniform. Greer, who started at cornerback in Buffalo the last two seasons, was not among the first wave of signings in the NFL's free-agent shopping season. He visited Detroit on Saturday but left without a contract, and he visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday. There was speculation before free agency opened that Greer might get an offer in the $7 million to $8 million range per year. That's what Corey Webster of the New York Giants and Kelvin Hayden of the Colts got in the past four months. However, a deal that large may have ..."
Bills entertain Coles, sign Fitzpatrick
"The Buffalo Bills considered a major weapon for their offense and found a new backup quarterback on the first day of the free agent shopping season. Veteran receiver Laveranues Coles was the headliner visiting One Bills Drive. Coles, 31, is a nine-year veteran who would give Buffalo a proven outside receiver opposite Lee Evans. The Bills' offense is in need of some type of new firepower after finishing in the bottom eight in the NFL in yards gained for a sixth straight year. Meanwhile, backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick of Cincinnati reached an agreement on a new contract with the Bills late Friday. He becomes the new No. 2 to Trent Edwards, replacing J.P. Losman. The Bills also ..."
Panthers linemen draw early interest
"With efforts to trade cornerback Ken Lucas on hold at least temporarily, the Carolina Panthers had a quiet opening to the NFL's free agency signing period Friday. However, two of their backup offensive linemen were plenty busy. Unrestricted free agents Frank Omiyale and Geoff Hangartner set out to cash in on their outstanding reserve duty for the Panthers last season. Hangartner, a center-guard who started eight games last season when other Carolina linemen were injured, was scheduled to visit the Buffalo Bills to see if their opportunity to become a starting center was a good fit for him. Omiyale landed a starting job with the Chicago Bears before the opening morning of free agency was ..."
Bills cut loose Dockery, Royal
"The Buffalo Bills entered the free-agency season today with a couple more holes in their starting roster. The Bills released guard Derrick Dockery and tight end Robert Royal on Thursday. Buffalo now has vacancies at three starting spots on offense (center, left guard and tight end) and one starting spot on defense (outside linebacker). Meanwhile, there is a need for backups at quarterback, receiver, running back, guard, defensive end, cornerback and perhaps safety. Bills Chief Operating Officer Russ Brandon and his football staff figure to be busy the next two months trying to shore up those positions. The Bills have plenty of money to spend. They entered free agency roughly $25 million ..."
Bills ready for some shopping
"The NFL’s annual yard sale, also known as free agency, is ready to commence. Starting 12:01 a.m. Friday, teams can hit the free agent market. Despite the tough economy, several players are expected to land huge contracts. The Buffalo Bills will do some shopping of their own, and they have the money to do it. They’re about $24 million under the league-wide cap figure of $123 million, according to Buffalo News estimates. The Bills are in position to address some needs on both sides of the ball, particularly offensive line, outside linebacker, tight end, backup quarterback, defensive line, safety and receiver. Running back also is a consideration with 11-year veteran Fred Taylor visiting ..."
Bills to release Dockery; possibly Royal
"The Buffalo Bills will release veteran left guard Derrick Dockery today as they prepare for the start of the free-agency shopping season, a league source told The News. Dockery was the Bills' big free-agent addition in 2007, signing a $7 million a year contract for seven seasons. He wound up playing only two seasons and getting paid about $18.5 million. A 6-foot-6, 335-pounder, Dockerey had a subpar year in 2008 and was not dominant enough, particularly in pass protection, for the Bills liking. Dockery, 28, still will count $5.4 million against the Bills' salary cap this year, but that's less than he would have counted if he had stayed on the roster ($5.85 million). By releasing him, the ..."
