Houston Rockets Trade Rumors

Knicks get McGrady in three-team deal
"The Knicks have acquired Tracy McGrady in a three-team trade with the Rockets and Kings. Yahoo! Sports says Mcgrady and Sergio Rodriguez will go to the Knicks; Kevin Martin, Jared Jeffries and picks got to Houston; and Larry Hughes, Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey go to Sacramento. If that report is accurate, the Knicks would hold on to rookie Jordan Hill. Early this morning, Rockets GM Daryl Morey and the Kings agreed in principle to a swap of McGrady and Landry as the principals to Sacramento for a deal featuring Martin. Tellem said the Kings may be willing to take both Jared Jeffries and rookie Jordan Hill, which would clear the enough cap room for the Knicks to sign two maximum free agents. ..."
McGrady camp wants guard in N.Y.
"Unless the Sacramento Kings send Tracy McGrady to the New York Knicks before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline, there could be an intriguing showdown with McGrady's agent, Arn Tellem. "If they don't trade Tracy," one source with knowledge of the talks said Thursday morning, "there's going to be some fireworks." Tellem is one of the NBA's power agents and represents several Kings, including rookie star Tyreke Evans. He was involved with Houston and New York in discussions about a trade between them, and team sources say Tellem was upset with the deal to Sacramento. Tellem's hope had been to get McGrady to the Knicks, and remains so."
Sources: Martin moving; Knicks in play?
"The Houston Rockets have unexpectedly emerged from their long-running efforts to trade Tracy McGrady with an agreement in place to acquire coveted guard Kevin Martin from the Sacramento Kings, ESPN.com has learned. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that the Rockets and Kings will spend Thursday trying to make this a three-way deal that lands McGrady with the New York Knicks, who have been McGrady's preferred destination ever since he and the Rockets mutually agreed in late December to find the 30-year-old a new team via trade."
McGrady Sweepstakes down to Knicks and Kings
"The Knicks became favorites yesterday to win the Tracy McGrady Sweepstakes before today's 3 p.m. trading deadline and make their cap-clearing coup when the Bulls dropped out of the bidding last night to make a trade with the Bucks. But in another bizarre twist early this morning, an Internet report stated a desperate Rockets general manager Daryl Morey recruited the Kings in a hastily arranged McGrady deal that centered on Kevin Martin. The report said that the Knicks might be added as a third team as the Kings flip McGrady to the Knicks. (Martin was pulled from the second half of last night's game). The changing landscape of the McGrady Sweepstakes never ends, as Morey has sought ..."
Report: Knicks would get McGrady from Sacramento instead
"If the Knicks are going to trade for Tracy McGrady, they'll have to make a deal with the Kings instead. Multiple reports say the Rockets have dealt McGrady to the Kings instead of directly to the Knicks. The Sacramento Bee reports "It is unclear whether he will make it to Sacramento or perhaps be moved again to New York." Yahoo! Sports says "McGrady's agent, Arn Tellem, had worked diligently with the Rockets to broker a trade for T-Mac to the Knicks, and sources say he's now determined to get him out of Sacramento.""
Rockets trade McGrady to Kings for Kevin Martin in seven-man deal
"The Rockets completed a deal early today to move Tracy McGrady and might just have landed his successor. A person with knowledge of the deal said the Rockets sent McGrady, Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey to the Sacramento Kings for high-scoring guard Kevin Martin. Six seasons after he arrived as the NBA scoring champion with league title aspirations and 6 1/2 weeks after he left the Rockets no longer believing he could help them, McGrady was dealt to the Kings when Martin became available. The Rockets will also receive forward Kenny Thomas (a former first-round pick of theirs), center Hilton Armstrong and point guard Sergio Rodriguez. The Rockets will send cash to the Kings but, with the swap, ..."
Sources: Rockets mull T-Mac offers
"The Houston Rockets have narrowed their long-running quest to trade Tracy McGrady to offers from the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls and plan to choose between the offers Wednesday, according to sources with knowledge of the Rockets' thinking. One source close to the process told ESPN.com that the Rockets, after intense talks with both teams leading up to Thursday's trading deadline, are determined to finalize a deal for McGrady and are leaning toward taking the Knicks' offer. The source said Tuesday night: "I expect it to happen tomorrow." The Knicks were considered a slight favorite as the evening wore on because, according to one source, New York has agreed to swap first-round picks ..."
As trade deadline looms, New York Knicks less optimistic over getting Houston Rockets' Tracy McGrady
"Tracy McGrady is still the Knicks' primary target, but as of Tuesday, team officials were not optimistic that a trade would be completed before Wednesday's 3 p.m. deadline. "It's less likely than it was on Monday," said a person familiar with the negotiations. "But you never know." The Knicks, however, could be closing in on a trade that would send Nate Robinson to Boston. The two teams have discussed different proposals that would include the Knicks getting back expiring contracts. Robinson, who rejected a trade to Memphis in December, would waive his no-trade clause in order to play for Boston. The complicated trade for McGrady and his expiring $23 million contract is loaded with ..."
Knicks, Bulls fighting for star McGrady
"It's D-Day for Tracy McGrady as the Knicks and Bulls compete for T-Mac's services with the Rockets' decision likely coming today, according to three sources. Negotiations between the Knicks and Rockets over McGrady went back and forth yesterday -- with early indications the Bulls were in the lead. But late last night a report from SI.com named the Knicks as frontrunners for McGrady and ready to finalize the deal today. That deal would bring cap heaven for the Knicks, sending rookie Jordan Hill and veteran Jared Jeffries to Houston, along with Larry Hughes, and freeing an additional $9.4 million in cap space for the Knicks to sign two free agents to maximum deals this summer. Picks would ..."
Knicks, Rockets close to McGrady deal
"The Knicks and Rockets are in the final stages of negotiating a blockbuster trade that would send Tracy McGrady to New York, with the Bulls still in the game based on the final issue of draft-pick compensation, CBSSports.com has learned. The Knicks would get McGrady in exchange for Jared Jeffries, Larry Hughes, Jordan Hill and draft pick considerations. The deal hinges on the level of protection the Knicks will require on a 2012 first-round pick that would go to the Rockets in the trade. The deal also would give Houston the right to swap first-round picks with the Knicks in 2011. Knicks president Donnie Walsh is discussing the draft-pick protection issue with Madison Square Garden chairman ..."
Knicks deny report that deal for Houston Rockets forward Tracy McGrady is close
"Tracy McGrady is no longer an All-Star and hasn't been much of an NBA player the last two seasons. What McGrady is, however, is available and with Donnie Walsh desperate to breathe life into his floundering team, the Knicks appear intent on landing the Houston Rockets' swingman. The trade would send Jared Jeffries, rookie Jordan Hill and either Al Harrington or Larry Hughes to Houston for McGrady, Joey Dorsey and Brian Cook. The teams would also flip-flop first-round picks in 2011, and the Knicks would trade their 2012 first-round pick to the Rockets. Trading Jeffries is crucial for the Knicks because removing his contract, which runs through 2011, would free up additional cap space for ..."
Knicks may add Hill to package for McGrady
"The Knicks and Rockets were closing in on a blockbuster deal yesterday that not only would bring Tracy McGrady to New York -- but more important, could open up $9.5 million of additional cap space that would give the Knicks a chance to sign two All-Star free agents to maximum contracts this summer. "We've made progress," a source involved in the talks told The Post, an indication an agreement could be reached today. The price the Knicks could pay for getting Jared Jeffries ($6.9M) off their books in this Rockets trade is giving up on their disappointing rookie lottery pick Jordan Hill, and possibly a 2012 first-round pick. Another league source said last night the holdup is that Knicks ..."
Knicks in serious talks for McGrady
"The New York Knicks are getting closer to reaching the Houston Rockets' demands for Tracy McGrady and his $23 million expiring contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Knicks and Rockets have designed the framework of a deal that would unload New York's Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill and either Al Harrington or Larry Hughes for McGrady, Joey Dorsey(notes) and Brian Cook. As talks stood on Monday, the price of dumping the burdensome contract of Jeffries – who is owed $6.9 million next season – comes with the Knicks and Rockets exchanging 2011 first-round picks and the Knicks' 2012 first-round choice going to Houston. New York also might include a 2010 second-round pick. The Utah Jazz ..."
Knicks remain in hunt for McGrady
"Despite the death of a potential Knicks' three-way deal with the Wizards and Rockets for Tracy McGrady, two sources told The Post last night team president Donnie Walsh spent All-Star Sunday in talks with the Rockets about McGrady in a deal expected to center around Al Harrington. All along, the Rockets have held firm that teams will pony up as Thursday's trading deadline drew closer. They were looking to get one of the Knicks' rookies, Jordan Hill or Toney Douglas. The Bulls also have talked to Houston about McGrady. Larry Hughes figures to be part of any deal to match McGrady's $23 million expiring contract. There's also a possibility the Knicks may have to throw in $3 million in cash as ..."
Knicks Said to Renew McGrady Bid, but Math May Not Work
"Four days before the N.B.A.'s trading deadline, the Knicks have renewed efforts to acquire the former All-Star Tracy McGrady from the Houston Rockets, according to two people close to the talks. There were substantive discussions on Sunday between the Knicks' president, Donnie Walsh; Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey; and McGrady's agent, Arn Tellem, according to the people, who did not want to be identified discussing the negotiations. The Knicks and the Rockets are trying to make the trade without the assistance of a third team, but the Knicks may not have the pieces necessary. There is also the challenge of matching McGrady's $23 million salary."
David Lee named an All-Star as Knicks eye Tracy McGrady trade
"The Knicks roster now includes a 2010 All-Star and by next week Donnie Walsh is hoping it will include an impact player as well. Walsh, the Knicks' president, is actively looking to upgrade the club before Thursday's trade deadline and Houston's Tracy McGrady remains his primary target. The Knicks are also interested in Chicago forward Tyrus Thomas and just about any point guard out there. "There are no deals imminent," Walsh said Thursday. "We're seeing what's out there and if anything makes sense for us." Walsh is open to trading just about anyone with the exception of Danilo Gallinari and David Lee; Lee was selected to his first All-Star team yesterday by NBA commissioner David Stern. ..."
Rockets aren't close on any trade, but Daryl Morey is talking, talking, talking
"Let's begin with that Yahoo! report. The Rockets would do that deal — Tracy McGrady for Caron Butler and Brendon Haywood — in a heartbeat. There'd have to be other players included to make the salaries match, but if the Rockets could acquire Butler and Haywood without giving up Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry, Chase Budinger or Luis Scola, they'd be absolutely thrilled. So far, though, every team wants at least one of those guys, and Morey would like to keep his guys. He may not be able to do that, and in the end, we won't know how serious anyone is for at least a few more days. Now about Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert. That's another pair of players the Rockets would love to have. Iguodala ..."
Is rumored win-win trade the Rockets' best option?
"In at least one respect, a three-team deal involving the Knicks make the most sense as the Rockets try to cash in on whatever they can from their remaining days with Tracy McGrady's contract. As mentioned last night, the Knicks are the one team that has seemed genuinely interested in checking out what McGrady can still do. For the Sixers and Wizards, the interest is in moving long contracts for his short one. The Rockets don't want anything the Knicks are willing to offer, but it would seem easier to make a deal with a team that wants the player and using that team's expiring contracts to get a guy the Rockets would want. Yahoo.com reported that the Rockets are talking about a three-team ..."
Rockets looking at McGrady trade; reported three-team deal never discussed
"Having spent the season refusing to consider themselves short-handed despite the obvious, the Rockets refuse to start now. Even the very real possibility that reinforcements could be a week away was not enough to get the team to concede they are needed. Then the Rockets headed to the All-Star break with a collapse in Miami, scoring the fewest points in franchise history, as if despite their spoken confidence about their prospects, they had sent a cry for help. The Rockets' efforts to trade Tracy McGrady, beginning long before he was granted a leave of absence and left the team, could bring help without giving up a member of the rotation, though they also might have to sweeten an offer to ..."
Knicks reportedly working on three-team deal with Rockets, Wizards for former All-Star Tracy McGrady
"Dolan was angry, the Knicks are desperate and that usually means change is on the way. McGrady, the banished former All-Star, has been a target of the Knicks for some time, and now there are reports of the Knicks being involved in a three-team deal to acquire him. The proposed trade, first reported by Yahoo! Sports, has the Knicks sending Al Harrington to Washington while the Wizards would ship Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood to Houston. But that's where things get complicated. McGrady earns a league-high $23 million this season, and the Knicks would have to include Larry Hughes, Eddy Curry, Jared Jeffries or another high-salaried player in order to make the deal work. Hughes has an ..."
Knicks discuss deal for McGrady
"The Houston Rockets are in the discussion stages of a complicated, three-team trade that would send Tracy McGrady to the New York Knicks, sources told Yahoo! Sports. The centerpieces of the trade would include the Washington Wizards shipping forward Caron Butler and center Brendan Haywood to the Rockets. The Knicks would send Al Harrington to the Wizards. For the Wizards' part, they would still need another player, as well as a draft pick and cash to make this a workable scenario, sources said."
Rumors: Martin, Iguodala, Butler, McGrady
"Kevin Martin, Andre Iguodala and Caron Butler continue to be the three swingmen most frequently linked with Mark Cuban's trade-seeking Mavericks, who have been stonewalled in their attempts to pry Martin away from Sacramento and thus have not ruled out a move for Butler. Sources say that Washington and Dallas have maintained a Butler dialogue while the Wizards also continue talks with Houston in a larger deal for Tracy McGrady. As stated previously in this cyberspace, Martin tops the Mavs' list in their search for a dependable second scorer to flank Dirk Nowitzki. Sources say, however, that Dallas would likely have to recruit a third team to present the quality big man presumably needed to ..."
Iguodala trade talk: Phoenix, Houston
"The latest trade talk circulating around 76ers swingman Andre Iguodala has him going with teammate Samuel Dalembert to the Phoenix Suns for star power forward Amar'e Stoudemire and, possibly, guard Leandro Barbosa. According to an NBA source, the two teams have discussed this and other trade scenarios, although there are a few snags with the potential trade. Stoudemire's contract situation is chief among them. The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 18. Iguodala has four years and $56 million remaining on his contract; Dalembert will earn $12 million next season, after which his contract expires. Stoudemire's contract expires at season's end, but he has a player option to earn $17 million for the ..."
Rockets fear change is in the air
"Nearly a week after Chuck Hayes issued his post-practice address, a pep talk that was part Knute Rockne, part John Blutarsky rallying Delta House, Rockets coach Rick Adelman put it more succinctly. "There's no cavalry over there," Adelman said. The Rockets, he noted, would have to solve their own problems. As Hayes had said with teammates and coaches surrounding him, the Rockets could rely only on those in that circle. Hayes said he was making a call for confidence and self-reliance. And for a game, it seemed to work. The Rockets came back from a midseason break to win in San Antonio. In the Rockets' front office, however, the bugle call for help had gone out weeks ago when Rockets general ..."
Budinger practices, could play tonight
"Rookie guard Chase Budinger returned to practice Monday and could play tonight against the Lakers. Though the Rockets expected to hold him out until Saturday, his recovery after missing seven games with a sprained right ankle has improved recently."
Swap of fallen stars improbable
"The Houston Rockets have put Tracy McGrady on the trading block, and you just know that the let's-make-a-deal portion of the Milwaukee Bucks' fan base would like a piece of that. You know who you are. The local Monte Halls would love to see the Bucks neatly wrap up Michael Redd, place a bow on top and ship him off to Houston for McGrady in a tidy holiday exchange of highly paid, high-profile, high-scoring veterans who are both coming off serious injuries. The reality, though, is that it's highly unlikely such a trade will ever take place. After all, is it realistic to think the Rockets would trade McGrady and his coveted expiring $22.5 million contract and take back Redd, who after this ..."
Tracy McGrady makes no sense for Miami Heat
"Let's see if this song and dance sounds familiar. A big-name player on the wrong side of his prime becomes available. The Heat, a team that seems to get thrown into every possible rumor, again is considered a possibility because, well, there's a big name available and the Heat has tradable contracts. Fans get into the mix and become enamored with the idea of acquiring the player, which leads to wild ideas that would sound fantastic if this were a fantasy league and not the NBA. It has happened so often with the Heat, and apparently we're dancing again, this time the player being Tracy McGrady. He wants out of Houston, and the Rockets want the same, so here come the ideas of sending ..."
Life goes for Rockets on post-McGrady era
"The news spread until Rockets players did not need to read the official statement to know the club would try to accommodate Tracy McGrady's trade request. His absence, however, was far from new or noticeable. The Rockets said they would do what they have done while McGrady played in only 41 games over the past two seasons, just 46 minutes since his microfracture surgery last February. "Pretty much, the team situation is the same," forward Luis Scola said. "Tracy wasn't here the whole year, so ... the things we do on the court don 't have to change. It doesn't have to be an adjustment." Unhappy with small role Rockets coach Rick Adelman said McGrady was not playing at a level to grant the ..."
Actually moving McGrady the hard part
"So Tracy McGrady has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the Rockets, who insist they will try a little harder now to trade him. The question most begging an answer: Can there really be an NBA team that wants the league's highest-paid player when history suggests he is little but an enormous drag on any team's ability to compete at a high level? McGrady on Monday told Yahoo! Sports columnist Marc J. Spears the team that gets him will employ a hungry player. "I don't care if I go to the damn moon," he said. If there were a team on the moon, it would have to be called the Lunar Ticks to want him. The fact that best defines McGrady is astounding, but undeniable: In the 62-year ..."
Landry returns to practice, could play
"Joking that all he wants for Christmas are his "two front teeth," Carl Landry returned to practice Monday and pronounced himself fit enough to play tonight. In fact, Landry was incredulous when asked if he would go against the Los Angeles Clippers after damaging five of his teeth Friday night in a collision with Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki. "Why not? I'm all right," he said. Landry endured six hours of surgery to repair his teeth. He said two were clipped at his gum line, and he has temporary fixes. He has been relegated to eating soft foods — soup, yogurt, "healthy stuff," he said — and is not sure when he will get back to solids."
Knicks Interested In McGrady
"Tracy McGrady is likely going to end up getting traded at some time in the next seven months -- maybe in a sign-and-trade deal after he becomes a free agent July 1, maybe at the trade deadline in mid-February, or maybe even sooner. The New York Knicks are hoping it is sooner rather than later, and they have been one of the most persistent pursuers of McGrady over the past several weeks, ESPN.com has learned. But what is killing the Knicks' chances of landing McGrady, who would be a panacea for them next summer when they plan to be major players on the free agent market, is their insistence that Jared Jeffries be included in any deal with the Rockets. It has been well chronicled how ..."
Grizzlies trying to sign former Houston guard Von Wafer
"The Grizzlies are attempting to sign former Houston Rockets guard Von Wafer in an effort to improve their perimeter shooting, particularly from beyond the 3-point arc. Wafer will join the Grizzlies next week if certain dominoes fall as expected, sources told the Commercial Appeal. Wafer, a 6-5 Florida State alum, first needs to complete a divorce with his current team, Olympiakos, a European club that reportedly has Wafer under contract for $2 million but for whom he hasn't logged significant playing time. Wafer would then need a letter of clearance from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) before he could sign a deal with the Grizzlies. Wafer last played in the NBA with the ..."
Landry becoming super sub
"Super sub The difference, Carl Landry said, has been before he has the ball. Landry topped 20 points in three of the four games of the Rockets' road trip. With nine 20-point games this season, he is second only to New York's Al Harrington in 20-point games off the bench this season, but he said the improvement came before the games. "The coaching staff and the front office put confidence in me, telling me to stay aggressive," Landry said. "I'm not necessarily looking to score every time, but just having the offense ran through me, this game if players have confidence, they feel they can do anything. My confidence is at a high right now. Hopefully, it can stay through the rest of the ..."
T-Mac, Adelman clear the air
"Rick Adelman and Tracy McGrady finally came to an agreement. They had been speaking often enough that when talking about when McGrady would make his season debut, they were sounding alike, even using some of the same phrasing. So when Adelman tossed out the idea of McGrady playing Wednesday against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, McGrady agreed that might not be the best way to begin his comeback from microfracture surgery. "I told him I could throw him out there against LeBron next Wednesday, see what level he's at," Adelman said facetiously. "He didn't think that was a good idea until he's completely healthy." McGrady said Saturday that he completely understands the team's plan ..."
Rockets to give excited Landry first NBA start
"Rockets forward Carl Landry did not know how he would feel but looked forward to finding out. With Luis Scola out Wednesday because of the swelling and a seven-stitch gash in his right eyelid left by a meeting with Etan Thomas' left hand, Landry will do something he never has in the NBA. He will start Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Clippers. And as much as he has been a solid rotation player for several years and a go-to scorer this season, this is different. "Growing up as a kid, your dream is always to play in the NBA and to put on an NBA jersey," Landry, 26, said. "Having the opportunity to start in the NBA, that's another level. I'm going to be psyched up. "I've never started a ..."
Tricks or tweets?
"With college and pro football players around the country getting in trouble over controversial posts on Twitter, the Texans might have found the solution. Twitter user "BrianCushing56" had been posting all season, reflecting on Texans games and life as a rookie. After last Monday's loss to the Titans, tweets read, "the refs killed us last night," and later, "The refs were terrible last night!" On Tuesday, the Texans' media relations department said the account was maintained by an imposter who is not Cushing or anyone associated with the Texans. The account that apparently misled more than 5,000 followers has since been deleted. An elecronic trail showed that Cushing's official Web site ..."
Scola expects to play next game
"Luis Scola, who never has missed a game in his three NBA seasons, does not plan to now. He left Sunday's game when he was hit in the right eye by Etan Thomas 22 seconds into the game, opening a gash that needed seven stitches. Scola said he will go for tests today but believed he would play Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Clippers. "We're going to see a doctor tomorrow," Scola said. "I wanted to come back (Sunday) but Keith (Jones the athletic trainer) wouldn't let me." But the Rockets thought Scola would return. "We kept waiting for Luis to come around the corner running," Shane Battier said. "I had his back. People were like, 'Where's Luis?' I said, 'Oh, he's Argentinean. He's going ..."
Useful interlude to work on rough spots
"One key 6-8 Rockets veteran returned to practice Monday, another was out. While Tracy McGrady went through the full workout, forward Shane Battier sat out Monday's practice with soreness in his left foot, which caused him to miss 22 games last season. "I took an old man day," Battier, 31, said. "It's the same issue I've been dealing with. I just wanted a day. Played eight games in 12 days. I'm old. It hasn't felt great, up and down. It's not really an issue. I'm not concerned about it." Battier has made a 3-pointer in 26 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NBA. Luther Head holds the Rockets' record with a streak of 37 games. Kenny Smith had the second-longest streak — 27. ..."
McGrady goes through full practice with Rockets
"To Tracy McGrady, the day was just another practice, more evidence that he is, in his opinion, ready to play. To the Rockets, from the coach who ran the long-awaited workout to the teammates that played with and against him, Monday's practice offered evidence that McGrady's return from microfracture knee surgery "is still a process." "He went through the workout today, started and he finished," said Rockets assistant coach Elston Turner, who ran practice with Rick Adelman off Monday to attend to a personal matter. "But it is still a process. We have to bring him back slowly." McGrady, however, said that while there is work to do on his game to make up for the time off the court, he is ..."
McGrady examination postponed
"The examination planned for Tracy McGrady on Sunday, a day after he did not attend the Rockets' home game against the Kings because of a sore back, was postponed until today, team spokesman Nelson Luis said."
McGrady a no-show with sore back
"Rockets guard Tracy McGrady did not attend Saturday's game or go through his customary pregame workout because of a sore back. McGrady, 30, who has become the subject of debate over his insistence he is ready to play while the Rockets have not changed their schedule for him, is to undergo an examination today to determine the cause of his soreness and the severity of any injury. McGrady had been scheduled to practice Monday and then undergo an MRI, the next step in his comeback from knee microfracture surgery. Though he said he did not want to answer questions about Tracy McGrady's unchanged status every day, on Saturday coach Rick Adelman offered his most extensive explanation of the ..."
T-Mac's act forces team into reaction
"No one tells Tracy McGrady what to do. Got that? No one. Stop it right now. There's no telling how much stress the Rockets are causing our diva. If they don't fall into line, things could get even uglier around here. Watch Tracy hold his breath. Watch Tracy stomp his feet. You think I'm kidding? McGrady stormed out of a meeting with general manager Daryl Morey a couple of weeks ago and followed up with a tense conversation with coach Rick Adelman this week. Relations with trainer Keith Jones are said to be less than wonderful. Wait, there's more. McGrady apparently believes owner Leslie Alexander would rather collect the insurance money on McGrady's $23.3 million contract than have McGrady ..."
Rockets dismiss report of T-Mac, Adelman quarrel
"Although Tracy McGrady made it clear he has grown weary with waiting for Monday's practice and MRI — the Rockets' next step toward his return to the court — he and coach Rick Adelman said Friday that their conversation about it Wednesday was not emotional and voices were not raised. Yahoo Sports reported McGrady and Adelman "engaged in an emotional and sometimes loud closed-door confrontation" after McGrady put on his uniform as if he was going to play. "It's not even an issue," McGrady said. "If coach tells you something different, I'd be surprised. I'm here to play basketball. I'm not here to be a distraction. I've been through enough of that drama last year. I'm not going to let it ..."
McGrady dressed but not ready
"Tracy McGrady marked the occasion of his "target date" to return to the court by getting in uniform after his customary pregame workout. That, however, was as close as he came to beginning his comeback from last February's microfracture surgery. Though the Rockets have only 11 active players, he remained on the team's inactive list in the locker room during the game. "We have no timetable," coach Rick Adelman said when asked about McGrady's return. With his first-half 3-pointer, Rockets forward Shane Battier has hit at least one trey in 24 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak in the NBA (behind Chicago's John Salmons). "Chase (Budinger) told me," Battier said, having ..."
Raptors claim Pops off waivers
"The Toronto Raptors defended the Suns' prolific pick-and-roll by switching on screens, having relatively good success with the strategy. With small point guards, that was not an option for the Rockets, who would not want to force Aaron Brooks or Kyle Lowry to have to match up against Amar'e Stoudemire. The Rockets, however, have allowed center Chuck Hayes to switch defensively, including in games last season against the Suns. "We feel comfortable with Chuck on anybody," Shane Battier said. "Three-fourths of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Chuck Hayes." The Rockets don't switch on pick-and-rolls and usually "show" on screens, but don't trap. "Assistant coaches always ..."
Club cuts pair, gains flexibility
"With a pair of moves Friday made for very different reasons, one surprising and one expected, the undersized Rockets trimmed two big men from their roster, sending center Joey Dorsey to the NBA Development League and waiving forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu. With Dorsey unable to get playing time and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers beginning their first training camp since the Rockets took over basketball operations, the move with Dorsey was expected. Mensah-Bonsu, however, had played well enough in the preseason to move past Dorsey, and had played 13 minutes in four of the Rockets' eight games. The Rockets wanted the roster spot open should they need a fill-in, a concern that became more obvious ..."
