Boston Celtics Trade Rumors

Paul Pierce's status is questionable for Wednesday
"The Celtics' 96-89 home loss to Orlando on Sunday was the first game all season in which Rivers had his full rotation at his disposal. But that doesn't mean there are no health concerns. Rivers said he thinks Paul Pierce [stats], who has a left mid-foot sprain, will play tomorrow, although his status is questionable. Pierce injured the foot Feb. 1 in Washington and missed two games before returning and scoring 13 points in 30 minutes against the Magic."
Celtics, Allen on trade block
"Few grand conclusions can be drawn from February NBA games. But in this case, the Celtics' latest disappointing loss only underscored what has been a poorly kept secret among NBA executives for weeks: Ray Allen's time in Boston is likely coming to an end. Thanks to a non-competitive third quarter, the Celtics fell to Orlando 96-89 on Sunday, dropping them to third in the East behind the Cavs and Magic. The struggling Celtics still have three games against Cleveland to prove they haven't fallen from elite status. But after going 1-3 against Orlando and 0-4 against Atlanta, the Celtics have reached a crossroads in their bid to milk one more championship banner out of the Allen-Paul ..."
Pierce 'good to go'
"Celtics captain Paul Pierce has recovered from a left mid-foot sprain and plans to play against the Orlando Magic Sunday. "I feel pretty good, light practice, I'm good to go tomorrow," Pierce said. "It's a lot better than it was yesterday, so it's improving, not quite 100 percent, but it's good enough for me to play on. It's a matter of healing, it's a little sprain, mid-foot. It really hurt, last couple days, but I've been getting necessary treatment and it's getting better every day. I feel like I could have went last game but I'm really ready to go." But coach Doc Rivers would not commit to having Pierce in the starting lineup after the team went through an hour-long practice Saturday ..."
Rumor mill: Hinrich for Celtics' Allen
"With the Feb. 18 NBA trading deadline fast approaching, expect to hear quite a few rumors involving the Bulls over the next two weeks. A viable rumor making the rounds Wednesday had the Bulls and Celtics possibly making a deal with Kirk Hinrich and Ray Allen as the principals. The Celtics would move Allen -- who is making $19.8 million in the final year of his contract -- if they can acquire a player who can crack their rotation this season and someone they'd be interested in keeping around for the next couple of years. Hinrich would appear to meet those requirements, but the Bulls might have to sweeten the deal by adding forward Tyrus Thomas, who despite his obvious issues would help ..."
Kevin Garnett: Team not pointing fingers
"Kevin Garnett, like Richard Nixon, wanted to make one thing perfectly clear last night. Despite Rajon Rondo's comments in yesterday's Herald about an upswing in personal agendas on the Celtics, Garnett insisted there is no "finger-pointing" within the team. Though Rondo was asked about his comments following last night's 107-102 win against Miami, Garnett swooped in and took the bullet for his teammate, who remained silent. "I'm not speaking for him, but on this team we have a lot of strong personalities," he said. "I remember last year when we lost to Portland - lost three straight - I could just sense that everybody within themselves was just trying to do more than they should or (were) ..."
Danny Ainge laughs off rumors
"For what it's worth, Danny Ainge seemed genuinely perplexed yesterday at further reports the Celtics are trying to trade Ray Allen. The general manager laughed at a couple of the rumors and was trying to understand how some that have been knocked down from both sides continue to get play. Ainge repeatedly has put off questions about the coming offseason and how much change there could be in the C's roster, but he was pointed with regard to the current campaign. "Let me just put it this way: We're doing everything we can to win a championship now," Ainge said. "We're not going to do anything that might hurt our chances of winning. "There's no question we need to play better, but we're not ..."
Report: House's wife involved in incident at Phoenix arena
"According to a report in the Arizona Republic, the wife of Celtics forward Eddie House claimed she was inappropriately touched by the grandfather of two baseball players who were arrested following an incident at U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix Dec. 30 during the Celtics' loss to the Suns. Charlsie House is named in a Phoenix police report made public this week. The report says she was present at the arena's Verve Energy Lounge when Detroit Tigers catcher Gerald Laird and his brother, Yankees prospect Brandon Laird, were arrested for allegedly scuffling with security guards. The police report said Brandon Laird "shouted derogatory remarks toward House and other women at the lounge." The ..."
Knee-deep in queries: Kevin Garnett, team insist he's just sore
"When Kevin Garnett had a bad game Thursday night against Orlando, thoughts immediately turned to his surgically repaired right knee. Even when Garnett said the knee, which was hyperextended last month, was not the issue, he was asked if he was just saying that to avoid making an excuse. But he assured he was not. However, the bottom line appears to be that KG is dealing with some residual soreness, but nothing he can't play with. Garnett was better against the Hawks last night, going for 15 points and seven rebounds in 33 minutes of the 100-91 loss. He dunked twice and generally looked more athletic. "Kevin looked great tonight," said Doc Rivers. "You know, it's going to be this way for a ..."
'Big Baby' Davis could face punishment for lashing out at Pistons fan
"Celtics forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis could be disciplined for shouting an obscenity at a heckling fan during a 92-86 loss to the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday night. Coach Doc Rivers called Davis' reaction "unacceptable," according to ESPNBoston.com. "Not from me, but he might from the league," Rivers told ESPNBoston.com, regarding disciplinary action. "I'm upset that we lost, people call me names, but that's part of the game. ... "It's tough when the fans are yelling that stuff at you, but you have to be stronger than that." The fan, sitting near the Celtic's bench, repeatedly referred to Davis as "fat boy." Davis' response was heard on Boston TV and radio ..."
Another positive step for Kevin Garnett, should play Friday
"The all-important day after couldn't have gone better for Kevin Garnett. After running through a full practice on Tuesday in Waltham, the Celtics forward, recovering from a hyperextended right knee, reported no complications yesterday during the walkthrough at the team's hotel before the 92-86 loss to the Pistons. "He's fine, good, so he'll be able to do something if we (have practice) Thursday," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers, as pleased as ever with the team's conservative approach to bringing Garnett back. Plans remain in place to have him play in tomorrow night's game against Portland at TD Garden. "I'm happy with everything," said Rivers. "When you consider that Baby (Glenn Davis) got ..."
Doc Rivers has no knowledge of a Nate Robinson deal
"In light of rumors regarding the Celtics' interest in Knicks guard Nate Robinson, C's coach Doc Rivers said today that he has no knowledge of any such deal. "I've been amazed that when a name pops up how much it can catch on with people,"said Rivers. "I just want to get the team that we actually have here together." Earlier today, a league source close to both sides of the situation shot down the rumors that the Celtics have renewed talks with the Knicks concerning their disgruntled veteran guard. "Don't waste your time," said the source. "The Knicks are looking for quite a bit for him." The source said that both sides did have discussions earlier this season but that nothing came of that. ..."
Report: Boston Celtics make offer to New York Knicks for Nate Robinson
"With Chris Duhon mired in a slump and Larry Hughes in Mike D'Antoni's doghouse, Nate Robinson is the best playmaker the Knicks have these days. So why would the Knicks trade Robinson to the Celtics? The Celtics have made an offer to the Knicks for Robinson, according to a reporter for Yahoo! Sports who appeared Tuesday on a Boston radio station. The reporter did not say what the Celtics offered. According to a person with ties to Doc Rivers, the Celtics coach wouldn't mind getting the chance to coach Robinson, even if he's high-maintenance. "Doc thinks he can connect with anybody," said the source. As much as he's a Garden favorite, Robinson has often been a headache for D'Antoni and was ..."
Doc says no to Kevin Garnett for tonight, maybe Friday
"The election was yesterday, but there will be a debate today. Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers appear headed for a lively discussion on whether the power forward will play tonight against the Pistons after nine games out with a hyperextended right knee. Garnett went through his first full practice since the injury yesterday and was on the Celtics' flight to Michigan later in the afternoon. But Rivers said he is still looking at Friday (at home vs. Portland) for KG's return. "No chance (tonight)," the coach said. Asked if there's a chance Garnett will talk him out of that position, Rivers said, "No means no." Will Garnett fight the decision? "It wouldn't be me if I didn't, you know?" he ..."
Not what Paul Pierce, Celtics kneed
"It may have been nothing more than a momentary stinger, but Paul Pierce headed to the trainer's room near the end of yesterday's practice after colliding with Shelden Williams and taking a knee to his own right knee - the same one that had to be drained last month. Pierce briefly re-emerged with a heavy ice pack on the knee before heading back to the locker room once practice ended. "He got kneed in the exact same spot - it's just amazing, the luck right now with little things like that," said coach Doc Rivers. "That's why he was so upset. He was like, it was starting to feel good. So we hope that he's fine." Rivers was encouraged, however, by the progress of Rasheed Wallace, who is ..."
Rasheed Wallace up and running for Mavericks
"The cause of his mild foot sprain may still be a mystery, but Rasheed Wallace says he should be ready for a return against the Mavericks tomorrow night at the Garden. The big swingman, who missed the last three games, walked through sets with the first team during yesterday's open practice for an American Express sponsorship group. "I'm going to go (tomorrow), and I have one more day of practice to get under my belt," he said. "It happened a while ago. I was playing on it for about two weeks, until the Toronto game last week sort of did it. So I had to sit down and give it a rest. "Just a little sprain, but how I did it, I don't have the slightest idea." The Celtics have gone 1-3 in his ..."
Garnett May return by January 22nd
"It's an extremely rough target, but coach Doc Rivers believes Kevin Garnett may return for a Jan. 22 home game against Portland. The Celtics visit the Pistons two nights earlier in Auburn Hills, Mich. "We would have a practice day the day before (Jan. 22)," Rivers said prior to last night's 96-83 loss to the Bulls. "I'm just glad that he's running right now. We'll have a couple of practices over the next week where he can get on the floor and work with us. "We'll play him when he's ready, and that's it. But there's an outside chance that Portland could be the return game for him." Garnett, who's recovering from a hyperextended right knee, was cleared earlier this week to resume workouts. ..."
Pierce's return unclear, Garnett out 10 days
"As of yesterday, the Celtics still didn't know how long it would be before Paul Pierce would be able to play after being sidelined by a sudden knee infection. In the case of Kevin Garnett, however, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said it would be 10 days before the All-Star forward returns to action. Pierce talked to reporters last night before the Celtics' 103-96 win over the Raptors for the first time since scoring 21 points in a win over Indiana Dec. 22. He said he had to undergo two procedures to drain his knee that swelled rapidly overnight as he was resting in his home after the Pacers' game. The pain led him to call Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte at around 1 a.m. and the two went to the ..."
Injury news mixed for C's
"Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo, both of whom missed last night's game with a sore knee and a strained hamstring, respectively, have a solid chance of playing at Miami on Wednesday. Kevin Garnett (hyperextended knee) still could be as much as a week away, if not more. ''KG is still 10 days, I have no idea,'' Rivers said.''There is at least some history with hyperextended knees. That takes a week, two weeks, three weeks sometimes. It's not going to be longer than that, but you know there's history there — not history with him, but league history.''"
Davis injury may not be serious
"Celtics vice president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Tuesday afternoon that he doesn't believe the sprained right ankle suffered by Glen "Big Baby" Davis is as serious as first feared. Davis got mixed up with Golden State's Rony Turiaf with 9:52 left in the game when Turiaf landed on his ankle. Davis left Oracle in arena wearing a protective boot and walking with crutches."
Dwight Howard responds to Kendrick Perkins' comment that Howard doesn't like opponents to be physical
"Why were the Boston Celtics able to limit Orlando Magic C Dwight Howard to five points on just seven shot attempts in the Magic's Christmas Day defeat at Amway Arena? Celtics coach Doc Rivers said afterward that his team didn't do "anything special," but Celtics C Kendrick Perkins offered a less delicate answer. "You've got to play him physical. You watch other teams around the league, they pretty much let him set up shop," Perkins said, according to The Associated Press. "You've just got to go in and be prepared to go to war. You've got to fight him first, hit him first. . . . He likes to be physical, but he doesn't like anyone to be physical with him." Howard was asked to respond to ..."
Paul Pierce on quicker mend
"Because Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte makes house calls, Paul Pierce's right knee infection was solved quickly. Now it appears the captain could return sooner than thought. "I think it may be shorter now that we're getting more information about it, than the two weeks, but we just don't know," coach Doc Rivers said yesterday. "There's a chance he may join us on this trip. I told them personally that he would have to be 100 percent for me to allow him to come on this trip." After today's game against the Magic, the Celts head west to meet the Clippers on Sunday, Golden State on Monday and Phoenix on Wednesday. That Pierce could play in one or more of those games wouldn't be any more surprising ..."
Pierce may return sooner than expected
"There were positive developments on the Celtics' front Thursday afternoon, a day after Paul Pierce underwent surgery for an infection in his right knee. First, Pierce might be able to return sooner than the two weeks originally estimated. Second, Kevin Garnett (right thigh bruise) practiced at full speed and will play against the Orlando Magic Friday. Third, forward Glen Davis (broken right hand) could be activated against the Magic. "He looked great, he'll be fine, so that's the best news," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said of Garnett. "Honestly, I told Kevin if I didn't think he was moving well (today) I was going to set him tomorrow, too. We're looking for the long term. Tomorrow is a great ..."
Technical difficulties for Wallace
"Rasheed Wallace was not talking technicals yesterday. But Wallace's coaches and teammates were weighing in on the subject, a day after Wallace was assessed two technical fouls and ejected in the first half of a 98-97 loss to Philadelphia. "Rasheed's going to be Rasheed,'' captain Paul Pierce said. "But the one thing is, we don't want it to get to the point where he's suspended games, so I'm sure a couple of us are going to talk to him and let him know he's almost at that limit, and we aren't even halfway through the season.'' Wallace has a league-leading 10 technicals, six short of an automatic suspension. "I think he's has what - nine, 10?'' Pierce said. "And 16 you get suspended. So ..."
Doc Rivers offers anger management
"The Celtics received word last night that Rasheed Wallace's outburst on Friday would not cost him a suspension or an additional fine. But his two-technical ejection still may have a positive effect on another collector of techs. "That got to me," said Kendrick Perkins, who has five T's on the season and is often at odds with the officials. "I think that helped me. When that happened to Rasheed, I saw how it affected our team. It really cost us a game, because if we'd have had Rasheed we would have won." The Celts weren't pleased all around in the wake of the loss to Philadelphia, but the bickering with the refs made it look even worse."
Time for a security blanket
"If he chooses, Paul Pierce could be one of those premium free agents available in the Class of 2010. The exceptional scorer and senior Celtic has an opt-out clause in his contract that could make him an unrestricted free agent this summer. Pierce is set to earn $21.5 million in the 2010-11 season and that is considerable money to walk away from, especially from a franchise that Pierce has become synonymous with. It would be nightmarish to imagine Pierce playing his final years in another uniform, so much so that even he cringes at the thought."
Celtics' Allen on verge of 20,000-point club
"Good guys can finish first, indeed. Ray Allen needs 14 points to reach 20,000 and could get them tonight in Washington against the Wizards. Allen would become the 37th player to reach that milestone in a career that has had its share of adversity. Three seasons ago, Allen had surgeries to remove bone spurs from both ankles. It seems that Allen, who follows a strict diet and played at a lighter weight in his ninth season than in his rookie year, had encountered his downfall - faulty ankles. The man who depended on lift to drain 3-pointers was relegated to crutches for several weeks. As soon as he was allowed to work out, Allen was running sprints on a practice court, preparing himself for a ..."
Daniels is headed to the sideline
"Marquis Daniels missed the last month of last season with the Pacers because of a right wrist strain. Now, Daniels is about to miss time with the Celtics because of a left wrist and thumb injury, starting with tomorrow night's home game against the Bucks. Daniels, who said he noticed the problem during the Celtics' visit to Indiana last month, aggravated the injury early in yesterday's practice. "It's been swollen the last couple days, so it's better to just rest it up,'' Daniels said. "I wanted to keep playing but [coach Doc Rivers] said it's best to rest it. I thought I could play through it.''"
Sore Marquis Daniels to sit out for Celtics
"Marquis Daniels quietly taped his sore left thumb and wrist throughout the Celtics' just-completed four-game road trip, and didn't miss any time despite the soreness. That changed yesterday when the Celtics swingman attempted to catch a Rajon Rondo bullet pass, which deflected off his left hand. The hand swelled a little more, the hand throbbed, and Daniels realized that it was time to take a seat. Coach Doc Rivers ruled Daniels out for tomorrow night's game against Milwaukee. "Nolan Ryan Rondo threw the ball in practice, I tried to catch it, and it just hit my thumb wrong and swelled up a little more," said Daniels, who said he may undergo an MRI today. "I had to sit down and rest it a ..."
Timely return: Garnett 's resurgence gives much needed lift
"Every time the ball rattles through the rim or each time he leaps in the air, his surgically repaired leg swinging like a child's at a playground, Kevin Garnett's confidence rises another notch. Last week, he told reporters he was tired of questions about his knee. Many NBA pundits who haven't seen him since early last season noticed he was a step slower and favoring his knee."
Wallace fined $30,000 for comments
"Before Sunday's game Rasheed Wallace was fined $30,000 by the NBA for "public criticism of officials" after his postgame comments Friday. Wallace accused Toronto's Hedo Turkoglu of flopping and then said some players receive preferential treatment after Paul Pierce was whistled for a technical for taunting Chris Bosh following a dunk. "They set rules on us to the point where you're taunting. When Paul dunked it, and then Paul didn't say nothing, he just looked at him. Let the Golden Child do that or one of the NBA [Basketball] Without Borders kids do that and it's all fine and dandy," he said."
A tough position for guard
"Walker Allen is proving to be as tough as his father. The younger Allen, son of Celtics guard Ray Allen, was released from a Boston-area hospital yesterday after being admitted for nausea during Thanksgiving weekend. Walker, 2, suffers from childhood diabetes and took ill Thanksgiving night, when he began vomiting. Ray Allen said Walker was taken to the hospital and then returned home, only to suffer more nausea and a lowering of blood sugar. Ray Allen missed practice Saturday but met his teammates at the plane later in the day for the flight to Miami."
Fine not OK by Rasheed Wallace
"The NBA can't put anything over Rasheed Wallace. The Celtics forward, who knows as much about league-mandated fines as he does about technical fouls, learned after last night's 92-85 victory against the Heat that he was fined $30,000 for his comments following Friday's win against Toronto. Here's another thing Wallace knows a lot about: the appeals process "I'm definitely taking this one to the appeals board," he said. "I knew it was going to happen, but I don't know why (it did). I didn't talk about no refs. I'm going to get that one back for sure." Wallace was hit with the technical for protesting a call after he set a pick on Toronto's Hedo Turkoglu. Afterward, he said, "I got a ..."
NBA fines Stoudemire, Chandler and Wallace
"Phoenix Suns forward Amar'e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler of the Charlotte Bobcats and Boston's Rasheed Wallace have been fined, it was announced today by NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations Stu Jackson. Stoudemire and Chandler were each fined $7,500 for the posting of messages on their Twitter accounts during games, in violation of NBA rules."
NBA goes tech-no on Kendrick Perkins
"While Rasheed Wallace's technical foul total increased to a league-high six Friday night, Kendrick Perkins' take is going in the opposite direction. The league has rescinded a technical he received two weeks ago in Indiana. After being called for a foul, Perkins remained with his arms up to indicate he had established position. Referee Joe Crawford hit him with a tech, but Perkins appealed. "At times it's hard because you're trying to stay away from the technical fouls, and they just seem to find you," he said. "But it probably was just a misunderstanding with Joey. It wasn't anything else past that." Perkins also appealed a tech from the Atlanta game, when he was called for pulling away ..."
Team keeps tabs on Kevin Garnett's recovery
"Coach Doc Rivers and general manager Danny Ainge have seen the same red flags as everyone else when watching Kevin Garnett - the limp down the floor Sunday in New York, the prolonged grimace after absorbing a kick to his surgically repaired knee Friday against Orlando, the general lack of explosiveness in his game. But Celtics management still believes progress is being made in Garnett's recovery and return. "His surgery has healed, but he's had discomfort in his shins," said Ainge, who holds weekly meetings with Garnett and team physician Dr. Brian McKeon. "KG wouldn't be playing right now if he wasn't confident, and he wouldn't be playing if he was hurt." But Garnett continues to be ..."
Time to look for some help?
"With the Celtics having lost three of their past five games, and their lineup struggling with outside shooting, rumors are beginning to surface about potential trades. While the Philadelphia 76ers are looking to rid themselves of the underachieving Samuel Dalembert and the Sacramento Kings are seeking to deal the disgruntled Kenny Thomas, the Celtics have been rumored to be part a three-way deal that would send Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, and J.R. Giddens out of Boston and net them the Kings' Andres Nocioni. An ESPN report said there have been discussions to send Allen, Scalabrine, and Thomas to Philadelphia and Giddens to Sacramento along with Dalembert while the Celtics would get the ..."
Paul Pierce up for practice
"Here's a partial list of irresistible forces: Nor'easters and the New England coast. Jeff Beck and the guitar. Paul Pierce and the floor. Though Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Monday that Pierce was being held out until tonight's Garden game against the Golden State Warriors as a precautionary measure for the captain's sprained left knee, those good intentions went for naught. Just as Pierce talked his way into Saturday's loss to the Pacers in Indiana, he insisted on a full run in yesterday's practice. "I got a good response from my last couple of days of rest," Pierce said. "I felt good about it. It went smooth. A slight sprain in the knee, but I'm a fast healer. I felt good. . . . My body ..."
Pierce's plays through the pain
"Paul Pierce has always been good at hiding his injuries, and playing through the pain. As such, it took a significant ding to send the captain to the locker room last night with 3:15 left in the third quarter of the Celtics' 97-86 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He returned at the start of the fourth and scored six of his 24 points during the last 12 minutes, when Pierce also made his only two turnovers. But even he isn't sure about the condition of his left knee. "It's a little tender," he said of what has been called a bruised knee by the Celtics medical staff. "I'm just going to wait and see how it feels when it cools down. On the play, I was falling and my foot got stepped on. "I sort of ..."
'Big Baby' wants to play in NFL
"Glen "Big Baby" Davis has no regrets about choosing basketball over football. That's because he's achieved success and a championship with the Boston Celtics -- and also because he doesn't believe his days on the football field are over. Davis, the Celtics' 6-foot-9, 290-pound forward, said he eventually wants to play in the NFL. "I will try it," said Davis, who's on the injured list for six weeks with a broken right thumb sustained in a fight. "When I become an All-Star in the NBA, when I become a great player in the NBA, then I'll try football. One of my dreams has always been to play football." Davis was a terrific two-way football player at University Laboratory High School in Baton ..."
Rajon Rondo, Celtics reach big extension
"If the situation regarding Rajon Rondo [stats]'s contract extension was a waiting game, then the fourth-year point guard won. And he hopes the Celtics [team stats] did, too. His willingness to wait on the Celts to hit his number - or wait until he hit the free agent market next summer if they did not - paved the way for the sides to agree to a five-year, $55 million extension that will kick in next season. That Rondo did not try to hit the lottery that could have been there when he became a restricted free agent made his demands not so demanding for the Celtics. "You could say that," Rondo said when asked about leaving money on the table, "but I don't want to be greedy. I'm thankful for ..."
Rajon Rondo, Celtics agree on extension
"The Celtics and Rajon Rondo have agreed on a contract extension that will pay the 23-year-old point guard some $55 million over five years, beginning with the 2010-11 season, a source confirmed to the Herald early this morning. The same source cautioned, however, that the pact is not yet completed. There are still details to be worked out, and although they are not expected to get in the way of securing Rondo's future in Boston, "it's not a done deal yet," said a person close to the negotiation. Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge and Rondo's agent, Bill Duffy, reached the agreement on the numbers some time after last night's 97-87 victory over the New Orleans Hornets."
Celtics fine Baby
"The Celtics decided to fine Glen Davis - not suspend him - because they want him to stay around the team. But as that was being made official last night, the disconnect was evident. Big Baby was in a room talking about making better decisions when out in the hallway, his teammates could be heard in their pregame ritual. The three shouts of "hoo-rah" followed by one, "ubuntu" could be heard as Davis waxed contrite. Davis' fight with a former high-school teammate resulted in a broken right thumb and surgery that will cost him some six weeks of the season. The fine was not disclosed, but according to sources it should wind up being in the low six figures. Had the Celts stayed with the ..."
Celts, Rondo still talking
"Although the past few days have been mostly quiet on the contract front for Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, both sides are expected to connect Sunday for one last attempt to come together on a new deal before Monday's deadline for contract extensions for members of the 2006 draft class, according to sources close to the process. The annual deadline for such extensions is Oct. 31 every season but was moved to Monday at 11:59 p.m. by the NBA because Halloween fell on a Saturday. League rules stipulate that the deadline moves to the next possible business day if it coincides with a Saturday, Sunday or national holiday. Rondo's camp appeared prepared to scrap the idea of further talks and ..."
Rajon Rondo talk not cheap
"Rajon Rondo's negotiations with the Celtics are far from finished, according to most of the parties involved. Though agent Bill Duffy was quoted yesterday in a Yahoo report saying Rondo wouldn't sign with the Celtics by Saturday's deadline, Duffy actually met with general manager Danny Ainge before last night's season opener between the team and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The agent refused comment but acknowledged he was about to meet Ainge. "To me, it's all about negotiating," Ainge said of Duffy's comments. "If he says he won't talk to me, then he won't, but he hasn't told me it's over." According to two league sources, the Celtics have increased their offer to Rondo, who is seeking a ..."
Davis is out indefinitely
"Celtics forward Glen Davis sustained a broken thumb Sunday night in an altercation with a former college teammate, according to a league source. Another league source confirmed the injury will require surgery and will keep Davis out indefinitely. Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said yesterday he "would not confirm or deny'' reports surrounding the injury."
Glen Davis' thumb hurt in off-court scrap
"Glen Davis' season has taken a bad turn in an entirely regrettable incident. The third-year forward could be lost to the Celtics for an extended period after injuring his right thumb in a private altercation with a friend, according to sources. The Celts were saying officially yesterday that Big Baby had suffered an undetermined hand injury and had been sent for X-rays. But sources said there is some type of fracture in the thumb and that he will have to undergo further testing with specialists to determine whether there is greater damage that could necessitate surgery. The injury occurred Sunday night during the incident between Davis and a former teammate, who had flown up from ..."
Big Baby needs surgery
"Celtic president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said he "would not confirm or deny" circumstances surrounding the injury sustained by forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis, who will miss the first part of the regular season with a hand injury. According to a league source, Davis has a broken thumb and will require surgery. Davis, who missed practice this afternoon and did not travel with the team to Cleveland for tomorrow night's opener, was injured during a fight, according to a report by the Herald's Steve Bulpett. According to the report, Davis was injured defending himself in an altercation with a former teammate who was visiting from Louisiana and could be sidelined for an extended ..."
Agent: Rondo won't sign new deal
"A meeting between Bill Duffy, the agent for Rajon Rondo, and Celtics GM Danny Ainge apparently netting nothing but major difference in how each side perceives Rondo's worth. Duffy, according to Yahoo! Sports, wanted Rondo amongst the top 5 highest paid point guards while the Celtics didn't feel that strongly. That means unless the two sides suddenly close the gap and reach agreement on deal by Friday, Rondo will be a restricted free agent at season's end, leaving the guard open to ponder offers from other clubs. The Celtics will have the right to match any offer."
Ray Allen suffers minor eye injury
"At first, Doc Rivers thought Ray Allen was playing around. It was a run-of-the-mill handoff drill. Allen was supposed to take the ball from Kendrick Perkins. Next thing Rivers knew, Allen was on the ground grabbing his eye. "It was a post pass and cut,'' Rivers said. "Perk was supposed to hand off low and Perk was going to fake it and go high. Unfortunately, he did it too late. "You couldn't see it, then all of a sudden he's laying down. Then you saw the blood and you're saying, 'Oh no, I don't think he's faking.' ''"
Ray Allen takes stitches
"Celtics guard Ray Allen missed part of Saturday afternoon's practice after a Kendrick Perkins elbow caused a cut over his eye. Allen was taken for stitches at the team's Health Point facility in Waltham. Allen's status for the Celtics' season-opening visit to Cleveland has not been determined. Coach Doc Rivers described the clash as an accident, since both Allen and Perkins were playing together, during a "skeleton" drill, which does not include a defending team."
