Boston Celtics Trade Rumors

Celtics have lingering interest in Larry Hughes
"The source added the Celtics also have lingering interest in Hughes, though they would have to wait for the former Knick's broken finger to heal. According to a published report, Hughes' negotiations with Charlotte broke down this week over the team's concerns about his readiness."
Celtics hope to get shot at Michael Finley
"The Celtics have identified what is believed to be a relatively small field of potential free agents now that the deadline for player buyouts has passed. A Celtics source confirmed yesterday the primary target is veteran swingman Michael Finley, who was bought out of his contract by San Antonio on Monday. Finley is expected to clear waivers tonight. The team also is interested, to a lesser degree, in free agent guard Larry Hughes. But Finley clearly has a rapt audience in the Celtics, who admittedly could use another shooter even after trading for Nate Robinson last week. "Every team has some holes, and shooting is something we can't have enough of," Doc Rivers said after yesterday ..."
Sources: Michael Finley on Celtics radar
"After making an inquiry on Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the Celtics now are looking into whether Michael Finley might be interested in joining the club. According to league sources, the C's are in the market to add to their roster and last night were awaiting the final list from the league of players bought out by the deadline. In the case of Ilgauskas, the Celts found what has been expected all along: The big man will be returning to the Cavaliers. Finley could be another story, though it is uncertain whether the Celtics can offer him much in the way of guaranteed playing time. But having a 6-foot-7 wing player who can hit 3-pointers is intriguing for a team that has traded away Eddie House and ..."
Boston Celtics' Big Baby crosses the line by trying to injure Cleveland Cavaliers' Shaquille O'Neal
"Old School in the NBA meant the School of Hard Knocks. Even then, however, there were unwritten rules. "When I played, you wouldn't go after a guy on purpose," said Cavaliers television analyst Austin Carr, who played from 1971 to '81. All but one of those seasons was with the Cavs. Carr said Boston's Glen "Big Baby" Davis bent the unwritten rules the same way he tried to twist Shaquille O'Neal's already-injured thumb Thursday night in Boston. "I thought what 'Big Baby' did showed the kind of character, or lack of it, that he has," Carr said. Like most viewers of the TNT telecast, he had no problem with the original injury, when Davis' flailing hand cracked Shaq's thumb as O'Neal ..."
Paul Pierce may sit tonight
"Paul Pierce, who has been dealing with a sprained right thumb he suffered last Thursday against the Lakers, might miss tonight's game vs. the Knicks. "Right now, we're talking about taking a few days off to get it back," Pierce said last night. "It's definitely something that's been affecting me the last few days. I'm going to talk to Doc (today), but if it feels how it feels right now, probably not.""
Injuries take toll on Pierce
"The effects of the "slight'' sprain Paul Pierce suffered to his right thumb in Thursday night's win in Los Angeles against the Lakers could be seen yesterday in the Celtics' 114-105 loss to the Nuggets. It was the second game Pierce played with the injury, and it affected the way he caught the ball, gripped it, dribbled it, and passed and shot it. "That's everything you do with a basketball,'' Pierce said, running down the checklist. Pierce was 2 for 10 against Denver, making his biggest contributions on defense, blocking four shots. But he said the nagging injury to his shooting hand has limited him."
Knicks, Celtics making Nate deal after all
"The Knicks will formally announce today they have traded Nate Robinson to the Celtics for Eddie House and J.R. Giddens and possibly either a first- or second-round draft pick. A source from the Robinson camp told The Post on Wednesday afternoon a deal to the Celtics was "close'' but complicated. "I was talking with my agent and there's a strong possibility that I'll be traded [Thursday] to New York," House said, according to ESPN.com. "At the end of the day, you can't control it. It's out of my hands -- it's never been in my hands. Wherever I go, if I go to New York, I'll play two months, try to play real strong basketball, get some wins with those guys, and make a good account for me for ..."
Knicks, Celtics have tentative agreement
"Multiple sources say the Knicks have reached a tentative agreement on a deal with Boston sending Nate Robinson and a second player to the Celtics for Eddie House, J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker. The identity of the second New York player was not immediately clear."
No deal for Ray Allen?
"Ray Allen has heard his name included in potential trades for Rip Hamilton, Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, Andre Iguodala and Jason Richardson. He knows he has no control over whether the Boston Celtics send him to another team. He also knows he doesn't want to go. As Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline approaches, Allen has one hope: He'd like to be starting for the Celtics when they face the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. According to multiple team sources, Allen will likely get his wish. While the Celtics have spent the past few weeks exploring their trade options with Allen, they don't expect to move the veteran shooting guard. The team is close to acquiring Nate Robinson from the New ..."
Expecting House swap
"Eddie House, speaking during yesterday's practice at UCLA, confirmed what was reported Tuesday night at bostonherald.com: He's heading to New York for Nate Robinson. The Celtics guard added that he could have remained at the team hotel, but reported for practice in the event that the trade didn't go through. As of last night, both sides were attempting to hammer out details, with one consideration being Robinson's status as a base-year compensation player. As a result, only half of his $4 million contract can be used for matching purposes. House earns approximately $3.8 million. Robinson would also become a richer man as a result of this trade. According to a league source, he will make an ..."
Knicks could be shipping Nate to Boston
"Nate Robinson was suspiciously absent from the Knicks last night here, home with flu-like symptoms -- but he might be absent, period. Coming off his third slam-dunk title, Robinson again is being shopped, with the trade deadline approaching tomorrow and the Boston trade rumors resurfacing again yesterday. The Knicks deem Robinson purely as a shooting guard, and his departure would open up more playing time for rookie Toney Douglas. Since the Knicks have no plans to re-sign him, they hope a playoff-bound team such as the Celtics will pounce. The Knicks and Celtics started talking trade in December, when Robinson was banished. Robinson can veto any deal, but Boston could be one he does not. ..."
Knicks working on deal to ship Nate Robinson to Atlantic Division rival Boston Celtics
"The Knicks have been looking to relocate Nate Robinson since December and they may have found a taker in the Boston Celtics. According to a league source, the Knicks and their Atlantic Division rival are working on a deal that would send Robinson, the back-up guard and three-time Slam Dunk champion, to Boston. Since Robinson is entering the last year of his contract the Knicks will only take back expiring contracts. Eddie House, who played for Mike D'Antoni in Phoenix, has an expiring contract as does Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine. The Knicks have been trying to trade Robinson since December when D'Antoni benched the energetic yet erratic guard for 14 games. The Knicks were in talks with ..."
Sources: Green to land Knicks' Nate Robinson
"According to multiple sources, the Celtics and Knicks are close to a deal that would bring guard Nate Robinson to the Celts, possibly in exchange for Eddie House. A league source, as well as a Knicks source, said yesterday that both sides still have interest in the deal that has been discussed in the past month. Two sources in Sacramento, where the Celts played the Kings last night, verified the interest from both sides. The Celts have narrowed their positional need to a backup point guard who can defend. They have until tomorrow's trade deadline to fill that need. The Knicks, who are trying to slash their payroll for this summer's free agent market, are only interested in players with ..."
Celtics point and shoot
"News of an impending Cleveland deal for Amare Stoudemire did little to change the urgency of the Celtics front office yesterday. General manager Danny Ainge declined comment on any trade discussions with other teams, but league sources said the Celts still are working the phones, with their primary goal to land a backup point guard - especially one who can defend. Chicago's Kirk Hinrich, who's due to make an average of $9 million per year through the 2011-12 season, and Charlotte's D.J. Augustin, who has one year left on his rookie contract (with a team option for 2011-12), remain possibilities. As Eddie House's matador performance against New Orleans' Darren Collison illustrated last ..."
Rondo Contradicts Colangelo On Interest In Team USA
"Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo wasn't among the 27 players named to U.S. roster for 2010-12, apparently because he didn't respond to USA Basketball's invitation. Apparently, that wasn't the case—Rondo says he'd be honored to play for the U.S team. "I haven't spoken to anyone from USA Basketball," Rondo told The Boston Globe. "No one's talked to my agent. I talked to my agent (Friday), and he said the same thing.""
Danny Ainge: 'There's nothing close'
"Trade rumors were flying faster than the speed of reality well into last night. Most reports of Celtics involvement in trade talks have been found to be old, unfounded or something mentioned in passing but far from the negotiating stage. But the club was probably hoping last night that word of Caron Butler going from Washington to the Mavericks is untrue. Sources said the Celts were looking at what it would take for them to get Butler, while other sources had them in the running for his Wizards teammate Antawn Jamison. General manager Danny Ainge had no comment on the multiple reports yesterday, saying that he will continue to make and receive calls as he looks for ways to improve the ..."
Ainge: 'No deals' with the Bobcats or Wizards
"Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Friday he has not discussed trades involving the Charlotte Bobcats or Washington Wizards. "There is no truth to either one of those," Ainge said. "I have had conversations with a lot of teams but those have never been discussed. There are a lot of things I would like to do but I don't feel a need to do something. I am always looking to upgrade the team, if possible." Charlotte coach Larry Brown could be interested in the Celtics' Rasheed Wallace, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer. But Ainge said Wallace will not be dealt. Ainge said he does not expect any deals to be concluded until closer to Thursday's trade ..."
Wizards, Celts in swap talks
"In a dramatic move that would resuscitate their fading championship hopes, the Boston Celtics are discussing a deal with the Washington Wizards for forwards Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Friday. The proposed deal would send the expiring contracts of Ray Allen, Brian Scalabrine and J.R. Giddens to the Wizards, a move that would signal the start of Washington's rebuilding process. The trade isn't imminent, but talks have progressed and Celtics GM Danny Ainge has positioned his organization to make one of the boldest trade deadline moves in years. For the Celtics, ownership would have to agree to take on an additional $24 million in salary next ..."
Reports swirl as NBA trade deadline approaches
"There's a report on espn.com that the Charlotte Bobcats and Boston Celtics are in trade talks involving Glen "Big Baby'' Davis. I'm told the two teams have talked, but I wouldn't be so certain Davis would be the guy the Bobcats covet. The Celtics need another guard who can knock down shots, which brings D.J. Augustin (or possibly Flip Murray) to mind. Obviously, the Bobcats would love to get Rasheed Wallace, a longtime favorite of coach Larry Brown, who hasn't played particularly well of late in Boston. The beauty of Wallace in Charlotte would be his wide skill set, You could pair him with any of three big men -- Tyson Chandler, Nazr Mohammed or Boris Diaw -- and he could blend with ..."
Sources: D.J. Augustin part of talks with Celtics
"The Boston Celtics and Charlotte Bobcats are discussing a trade centered around Glen Davis and D.J. Augustin, according to league sources. The sources cautioned that nothing is imminent, but said the clubs are having discussions. The Bobcats have been searching for a power forward, and the 6-foot-9 Davis could be their man. The Celtics, meanwhile, have been longing for a backup point guard, and Augustin, who's fallen out of favor with Charlotte coach Larry Brown, would be more than adequate. A straight-up trade would not work because Davis is a base-year compensation player, so other players would have to be involved to meet the financial requirements. That could be a sticking point in the ..."
Allen a hot topic; Ainge fielding calls on his availability
"As the NBA's Feb. 18 trade deadline approaches and the Celtics continue to show they may not be capable of winning a title as currently constructed, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is fielding an increasing amount of calls, especially on shooting guard Ray Allen. Allen has an expiring $19.7 million contract that, for the right team, could create a large amount of cap space this summer. According to NBA sources, Ainge is not shopping Allen and he told his veteran guard that much in a conversation last week. But those same sources said Ainge is listening to offers on Allen, whose play has declined this season and whose contract will become increasingly enticing in the next ..."
Paul Pierce's status is questionable for Wednesday
"The Celtics' 96-89 home loss to Orlando on Sunday was the first game all season in which Rivers had his full rotation at his disposal. But that doesn't mean there are no health concerns. Rivers said he thinks Paul Pierce [stats], who has a left mid-foot sprain, will play tomorrow, although his status is questionable. Pierce injured the foot Feb. 1 in Washington and missed two games before returning and scoring 13 points in 30 minutes against the Magic."
Celtics, Allen on trade block
"Few grand conclusions can be drawn from February NBA games. But in this case, the Celtics' latest disappointing loss only underscored what has been a poorly kept secret among NBA executives for weeks: Ray Allen's time in Boston is likely coming to an end. Thanks to a non-competitive third quarter, the Celtics fell to Orlando 96-89 on Sunday, dropping them to third in the East behind the Cavs and Magic. The struggling Celtics still have three games against Cleveland to prove they haven't fallen from elite status. But after going 1-3 against Orlando and 0-4 against Atlanta, the Celtics have reached a crossroads in their bid to milk one more championship banner out of the Allen-Paul ..."
Pierce 'good to go'
"Celtics captain Paul Pierce has recovered from a left mid-foot sprain and plans to play against the Orlando Magic Sunday. "I feel pretty good, light practice, I'm good to go tomorrow," Pierce said. "It's a lot better than it was yesterday, so it's improving, not quite 100 percent, but it's good enough for me to play on. It's a matter of healing, it's a little sprain, mid-foot. It really hurt, last couple days, but I've been getting necessary treatment and it's getting better every day. I feel like I could have went last game but I'm really ready to go." But coach Doc Rivers would not commit to having Pierce in the starting lineup after the team went through an hour-long practice Saturday ..."
Rumor mill: Hinrich for Celtics' Allen
"With the Feb. 18 NBA trading deadline fast approaching, expect to hear quite a few rumors involving the Bulls over the next two weeks. A viable rumor making the rounds Wednesday had the Bulls and Celtics possibly making a deal with Kirk Hinrich and Ray Allen as the principals. The Celtics would move Allen -- who is making $19.8 million in the final year of his contract -- if they can acquire a player who can crack their rotation this season and someone they'd be interested in keeping around for the next couple of years. Hinrich would appear to meet those requirements, but the Bulls might have to sweeten the deal by adding forward Tyrus Thomas, who despite his obvious issues would help ..."
Kevin Garnett: Team not pointing fingers
"Kevin Garnett, like Richard Nixon, wanted to make one thing perfectly clear last night. Despite Rajon Rondo's comments in yesterday's Herald about an upswing in personal agendas on the Celtics, Garnett insisted there is no "finger-pointing" within the team. Though Rondo was asked about his comments following last night's 107-102 win against Miami, Garnett swooped in and took the bullet for his teammate, who remained silent. "I'm not speaking for him, but on this team we have a lot of strong personalities," he said. "I remember last year when we lost to Portland - lost three straight - I could just sense that everybody within themselves was just trying to do more than they should or (were) ..."
Danny Ainge laughs off rumors
"For what it's worth, Danny Ainge seemed genuinely perplexed yesterday at further reports the Celtics are trying to trade Ray Allen. The general manager laughed at a couple of the rumors and was trying to understand how some that have been knocked down from both sides continue to get play. Ainge repeatedly has put off questions about the coming offseason and how much change there could be in the C's roster, but he was pointed with regard to the current campaign. "Let me just put it this way: We're doing everything we can to win a championship now," Ainge said. "We're not going to do anything that might hurt our chances of winning. "There's no question we need to play better, but we're not ..."
Report: House's wife involved in incident at Phoenix arena
"According to a report in the Arizona Republic, the wife of Celtics forward Eddie House claimed she was inappropriately touched by the grandfather of two baseball players who were arrested following an incident at U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix Dec. 30 during the Celtics' loss to the Suns. Charlsie House is named in a Phoenix police report made public this week. The report says she was present at the arena's Verve Energy Lounge when Detroit Tigers catcher Gerald Laird and his brother, Yankees prospect Brandon Laird, were arrested for allegedly scuffling with security guards. The police report said Brandon Laird "shouted derogatory remarks toward House and other women at the lounge." The ..."
Knee-deep in queries: Kevin Garnett, team insist he's just sore
"When Kevin Garnett had a bad game Thursday night against Orlando, thoughts immediately turned to his surgically repaired right knee. Even when Garnett said the knee, which was hyperextended last month, was not the issue, he was asked if he was just saying that to avoid making an excuse. But he assured he was not. However, the bottom line appears to be that KG is dealing with some residual soreness, but nothing he can't play with. Garnett was better against the Hawks last night, going for 15 points and seven rebounds in 33 minutes of the 100-91 loss. He dunked twice and generally looked more athletic. "Kevin looked great tonight," said Doc Rivers. "You know, it's going to be this way for a ..."
'Big Baby' Davis could face punishment for lashing out at Pistons fan
"Celtics forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis could be disciplined for shouting an obscenity at a heckling fan during a 92-86 loss to the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday night. Coach Doc Rivers called Davis' reaction "unacceptable," according to ESPNBoston.com. "Not from me, but he might from the league," Rivers told ESPNBoston.com, regarding disciplinary action. "I'm upset that we lost, people call me names, but that's part of the game. ... "It's tough when the fans are yelling that stuff at you, but you have to be stronger than that." The fan, sitting near the Celtic's bench, repeatedly referred to Davis as "fat boy." Davis' response was heard on Boston TV and radio ..."
Another positive step for Kevin Garnett, should play Friday
"The all-important day after couldn't have gone better for Kevin Garnett. After running through a full practice on Tuesday in Waltham, the Celtics forward, recovering from a hyperextended right knee, reported no complications yesterday during the walkthrough at the team's hotel before the 92-86 loss to the Pistons. "He's fine, good, so he'll be able to do something if we (have practice) Thursday," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers, as pleased as ever with the team's conservative approach to bringing Garnett back. Plans remain in place to have him play in tomorrow night's game against Portland at TD Garden. "I'm happy with everything," said Rivers. "When you consider that Baby (Glenn Davis) got ..."
Doc Rivers has no knowledge of a Nate Robinson deal
"In light of rumors regarding the Celtics' interest in Knicks guard Nate Robinson, C's coach Doc Rivers said today that he has no knowledge of any such deal. "I've been amazed that when a name pops up how much it can catch on with people,"said Rivers. "I just want to get the team that we actually have here together." Earlier today, a league source close to both sides of the situation shot down the rumors that the Celtics have renewed talks with the Knicks concerning their disgruntled veteran guard. "Don't waste your time," said the source. "The Knicks are looking for quite a bit for him." The source said that both sides did have discussions earlier this season but that nothing came of that. ..."
Report: Boston Celtics make offer to New York Knicks for Nate Robinson
"With Chris Duhon mired in a slump and Larry Hughes in Mike D'Antoni's doghouse, Nate Robinson is the best playmaker the Knicks have these days. So why would the Knicks trade Robinson to the Celtics? The Celtics have made an offer to the Knicks for Robinson, according to a reporter for Yahoo! Sports who appeared Tuesday on a Boston radio station. The reporter did not say what the Celtics offered. According to a person with ties to Doc Rivers, the Celtics coach wouldn't mind getting the chance to coach Robinson, even if he's high-maintenance. "Doc thinks he can connect with anybody," said the source. As much as he's a Garden favorite, Robinson has often been a headache for D'Antoni and was ..."
Doc says no to Kevin Garnett for tonight, maybe Friday
"The election was yesterday, but there will be a debate today. Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers appear headed for a lively discussion on whether the power forward will play tonight against the Pistons after nine games out with a hyperextended right knee. Garnett went through his first full practice since the injury yesterday and was on the Celtics' flight to Michigan later in the afternoon. But Rivers said he is still looking at Friday (at home vs. Portland) for KG's return. "No chance (tonight)," the coach said. Asked if there's a chance Garnett will talk him out of that position, Rivers said, "No means no." Will Garnett fight the decision? "It wouldn't be me if I didn't, you know?" he ..."
Not what Paul Pierce, Celtics kneed
"It may have been nothing more than a momentary stinger, but Paul Pierce headed to the trainer's room near the end of yesterday's practice after colliding with Shelden Williams and taking a knee to his own right knee - the same one that had to be drained last month. Pierce briefly re-emerged with a heavy ice pack on the knee before heading back to the locker room once practice ended. "He got kneed in the exact same spot - it's just amazing, the luck right now with little things like that," said coach Doc Rivers. "That's why he was so upset. He was like, it was starting to feel good. So we hope that he's fine." Rivers was encouraged, however, by the progress of Rasheed Wallace, who is ..."
Rasheed Wallace up and running for Mavericks
"The cause of his mild foot sprain may still be a mystery, but Rasheed Wallace says he should be ready for a return against the Mavericks tomorrow night at the Garden. The big swingman, who missed the last three games, walked through sets with the first team during yesterday's open practice for an American Express sponsorship group. "I'm going to go (tomorrow), and I have one more day of practice to get under my belt," he said. "It happened a while ago. I was playing on it for about two weeks, until the Toronto game last week sort of did it. So I had to sit down and give it a rest. "Just a little sprain, but how I did it, I don't have the slightest idea." The Celtics have gone 1-3 in his ..."
Garnett May return by January 22nd
"It's an extremely rough target, but coach Doc Rivers believes Kevin Garnett may return for a Jan. 22 home game against Portland. The Celtics visit the Pistons two nights earlier in Auburn Hills, Mich. "We would have a practice day the day before (Jan. 22)," Rivers said prior to last night's 96-83 loss to the Bulls. "I'm just glad that he's running right now. We'll have a couple of practices over the next week where he can get on the floor and work with us. "We'll play him when he's ready, and that's it. But there's an outside chance that Portland could be the return game for him." Garnett, who's recovering from a hyperextended right knee, was cleared earlier this week to resume workouts. ..."
Pierce's return unclear, Garnett out 10 days
"As of yesterday, the Celtics still didn't know how long it would be before Paul Pierce would be able to play after being sidelined by a sudden knee infection. In the case of Kevin Garnett, however, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said it would be 10 days before the All-Star forward returns to action. Pierce talked to reporters last night before the Celtics' 103-96 win over the Raptors for the first time since scoring 21 points in a win over Indiana Dec. 22. He said he had to undergo two procedures to drain his knee that swelled rapidly overnight as he was resting in his home after the Pacers' game. The pain led him to call Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte at around 1 a.m. and the two went to the ..."
Injury news mixed for C's
"Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo, both of whom missed last night's game with a sore knee and a strained hamstring, respectively, have a solid chance of playing at Miami on Wednesday. Kevin Garnett (hyperextended knee) still could be as much as a week away, if not more. ''KG is still 10 days, I have no idea,'' Rivers said.''There is at least some history with hyperextended knees. That takes a week, two weeks, three weeks sometimes. It's not going to be longer than that, but you know there's history there — not history with him, but league history.''"
Davis injury may not be serious
"Celtics vice president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Tuesday afternoon that he doesn't believe the sprained right ankle suffered by Glen "Big Baby" Davis is as serious as first feared. Davis got mixed up with Golden State's Rony Turiaf with 9:52 left in the game when Turiaf landed on his ankle. Davis left Oracle in arena wearing a protective boot and walking with crutches."
Dwight Howard responds to Kendrick Perkins' comment that Howard doesn't like opponents to be physical
"Why were the Boston Celtics able to limit Orlando Magic C Dwight Howard to five points on just seven shot attempts in the Magic's Christmas Day defeat at Amway Arena? Celtics coach Doc Rivers said afterward that his team didn't do "anything special," but Celtics C Kendrick Perkins offered a less delicate answer. "You've got to play him physical. You watch other teams around the league, they pretty much let him set up shop," Perkins said, according to The Associated Press. "You've just got to go in and be prepared to go to war. You've got to fight him first, hit him first. . . . He likes to be physical, but he doesn't like anyone to be physical with him." Howard was asked to respond to ..."
Paul Pierce on quicker mend
"Because Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte makes house calls, Paul Pierce's right knee infection was solved quickly. Now it appears the captain could return sooner than thought. "I think it may be shorter now that we're getting more information about it, than the two weeks, but we just don't know," coach Doc Rivers said yesterday. "There's a chance he may join us on this trip. I told them personally that he would have to be 100 percent for me to allow him to come on this trip." After today's game against the Magic, the Celts head west to meet the Clippers on Sunday, Golden State on Monday and Phoenix on Wednesday. That Pierce could play in one or more of those games wouldn't be any more surprising ..."
Pierce may return sooner than expected
"There were positive developments on the Celtics' front Thursday afternoon, a day after Paul Pierce underwent surgery for an infection in his right knee. First, Pierce might be able to return sooner than the two weeks originally estimated. Second, Kevin Garnett (right thigh bruise) practiced at full speed and will play against the Orlando Magic Friday. Third, forward Glen Davis (broken right hand) could be activated against the Magic. "He looked great, he'll be fine, so that's the best news," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said of Garnett. "Honestly, I told Kevin if I didn't think he was moving well (today) I was going to set him tomorrow, too. We're looking for the long term. Tomorrow is a great ..."
Technical difficulties for Wallace
"Rasheed Wallace was not talking technicals yesterday. But Wallace's coaches and teammates were weighing in on the subject, a day after Wallace was assessed two technical fouls and ejected in the first half of a 98-97 loss to Philadelphia. "Rasheed's going to be Rasheed,'' captain Paul Pierce said. "But the one thing is, we don't want it to get to the point where he's suspended games, so I'm sure a couple of us are going to talk to him and let him know he's almost at that limit, and we aren't even halfway through the season.'' Wallace has a league-leading 10 technicals, six short of an automatic suspension. "I think he's has what - nine, 10?'' Pierce said. "And 16 you get suspended. So ..."
Doc Rivers offers anger management
"The Celtics received word last night that Rasheed Wallace's outburst on Friday would not cost him a suspension or an additional fine. But his two-technical ejection still may have a positive effect on another collector of techs. "That got to me," said Kendrick Perkins, who has five T's on the season and is often at odds with the officials. "I think that helped me. When that happened to Rasheed, I saw how it affected our team. It really cost us a game, because if we'd have had Rasheed we would have won." The Celts weren't pleased all around in the wake of the loss to Philadelphia, but the bickering with the refs made it look even worse."
Time for a security blanket
"If he chooses, Paul Pierce could be one of those premium free agents available in the Class of 2010. The exceptional scorer and senior Celtic has an opt-out clause in his contract that could make him an unrestricted free agent this summer. Pierce is set to earn $21.5 million in the 2010-11 season and that is considerable money to walk away from, especially from a franchise that Pierce has become synonymous with. It would be nightmarish to imagine Pierce playing his final years in another uniform, so much so that even he cringes at the thought."
Celtics' Allen on verge of 20,000-point club
"Good guys can finish first, indeed. Ray Allen needs 14 points to reach 20,000 and could get them tonight in Washington against the Wizards. Allen would become the 37th player to reach that milestone in a career that has had its share of adversity. Three seasons ago, Allen had surgeries to remove bone spurs from both ankles. It seems that Allen, who follows a strict diet and played at a lighter weight in his ninth season than in his rookie year, had encountered his downfall - faulty ankles. The man who depended on lift to drain 3-pointers was relegated to crutches for several weeks. As soon as he was allowed to work out, Allen was running sprints on a practice court, preparing himself for a ..."
Daniels is headed to the sideline
"Marquis Daniels missed the last month of last season with the Pacers because of a right wrist strain. Now, Daniels is about to miss time with the Celtics because of a left wrist and thumb injury, starting with tomorrow night's home game against the Bucks. Daniels, who said he noticed the problem during the Celtics' visit to Indiana last month, aggravated the injury early in yesterday's practice. "It's been swollen the last couple days, so it's better to just rest it up,'' Daniels said. "I wanted to keep playing but [coach Doc Rivers] said it's best to rest it. I thought I could play through it.''"
Sore Marquis Daniels to sit out for Celtics
"Marquis Daniels quietly taped his sore left thumb and wrist throughout the Celtics' just-completed four-game road trip, and didn't miss any time despite the soreness. That changed yesterday when the Celtics swingman attempted to catch a Rajon Rondo bullet pass, which deflected off his left hand. The hand swelled a little more, the hand throbbed, and Daniels realized that it was time to take a seat. Coach Doc Rivers ruled Daniels out for tomorrow night's game against Milwaukee. "Nolan Ryan Rondo threw the ball in practice, I tried to catch it, and it just hit my thumb wrong and swelled up a little more," said Daniels, who said he may undergo an MRI today. "I had to sit down and rest it a ..."
Timely return: Garnett 's resurgence gives much needed lift
"Every time the ball rattles through the rim or each time he leaps in the air, his surgically repaired leg swinging like a child's at a playground, Kevin Garnett's confidence rises another notch. Last week, he told reporters he was tired of questions about his knee. Many NBA pundits who haven't seen him since early last season noticed he was a step slower and favoring his knee."
