Charlotte Bobcats Trade Rumors

Charlotte Bobcats lose D.J. Augustin in another loss
"Charlotte Bobcats guard D.J. Augustin will have an injection soon intended to treat a slight crack between two bones in his right big toe, Augustin told the Observer on Sunday. Augustin, the Bobcats' assist leader and second-leading scorer, had to leave in the first quarter of a 97-87 loss to the New Jersey Nets. Augustin has suffered from chronic pain for about 10 days, and it became so severe about six and a half minutes into the game that he sat down for the night. "It's two bones in my big toe, and it's kind of cracked," Augustin told the Observer. "The shot would fill in the crack, and give it time to heal -- take some of the pain away.""
Michael Jordan is engaged to model Yvette Prieto
"Charlotte Bobcats majority owner Michael Jordan had something extra special to celebrate this Christmas: he and his longtime girlfriend are now engaged. A spokeswoman for the basketball legend on Thursday confirmed his engagement to Yvette Prieto, a Cuban-American model. She said she could not answer other questions about the couple. No wedding date was announced. Jordan, 48, and Prieto, 33, have reportedly been dating since 2008."
Bobcats sign Cory Higgins
"Cory Higgins, Colorado's all-time leading scorer, will fill the Charlotte Bobcats' 15th roster spot. Higgins is the son of Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins. Cory Higgins was recently cut by the Denver Nuggets. At 6-5, Higgins fills what the Bobcats wanted from a fifth guard: A player with the size and skill set to play either guard spot. "One of the things I pride myself in is playing either position, and more importantly, being able to guard either position,'' Higgins said after practice Sunday night."
Charlotte Bobcats to try out 2 forwards
"The Charlotte Bobcats plan to audition Bostjan Nachbar and Jamario Moon today, looking for another small forward to fill out the roster. The Bobcats chose not to match a Memphis Grizzlies offer sheet on restricted free-agent forward Dante Cunningham. Doing so would have obligated the Bobcats to about $4 million in total guarantees this season and next. With long-range shooter Reggie Williams recovering from surgery to repair knee cartilage, player-personnel chief Rod Higgins would like another scoring option. Nachbar, a 6-foot-9 Slovenian, was the 15th overall pick of the 2002 draft, chosen by the Houston Rockets. He also played for the New Orleans Hornets and New Jersey Nets before"
Grizzlies prepare offer sheet for Bobcats' forward, discuss trade with Sixers
"The Grizzlies are preparing an offer sheet for Charlotte Bobcats restricted free agent Dante Cunningham, and team officials have held trade discussions with the Philadelphia 76ers as a response to forward Darrell Arthur's season-ending Achilles injury. Magnetic resonance imaging performed Monday on Arthur confirmed that he has a torn right Achilles and will miss the entire 2011-12 season. Memphis, shorthanded up front before Arthur's injury, is in the market for two frontcourt players. Cunningham is viewed as a close replacement for Arthur, and the Griz also have 76ers versatile big man Marresse Speights on their radar, according to sources with knowledge of the Grizzlies' thinking."
Rookie Biyombo agrees to buyout, will join Cats
"The AP reports that Charlotte Bobcats forward Bismack Biyombo has agreed to a buyout with his Spanish team Fuenlabrada for $1.5 million, clearing the way for the 19-year-old to join the NBA this season. There had been concerns that Biyombo would not be able to get out of his contract with the club and would have to wait another season. The Bobcats desperately need Biyombo after center Kwame Brown signed with the Warriors in free agency. The Cats had been considering starting Boris Diaw at center, which they may still with Biyombo trying to catch up. Biyombo's size is vital for the Bobcats. Before the draft, fellow prospects had joked at Biyombo's freakish length, which allowed him to"
Bobcats acquire B.J. Mullens
"The Charlotte Bobcats are acquiring 7-footer B.J. Mullens from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Bobcats are giving up a second-round pick in 2013 and are receiving cash considerations. Mullens, who played one year at Ohio State before turning pro, has played sparingly the past two seasons with the Thunder. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds."
Agent: Bobcats inquire about Warriors' 3-point shooter Williams
"Agent Herb Rudoy says the Charlotte Bobcats have expressed interest in Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Reggie Williams, and Rudoy said that interest is mutual. Rudoy, based in Chicago, said the Bobcats are one of about a half-dozen NBA teams to have called about Williams, a restricted free agent who shot a remarkable 42.3 percent from 3-point range last season. Bobcats coach Paul Silas has requested another long-range shooter after the team finished 29th in the NBA last season in 3-point percentage."
Silas wants Corey Maggette to carry scoring load
"New Charlotte Bobcat Corey Maggette is about to get every chance to re-ignite his NBA career. That was the word Wednesday from Bobcats coach Paul Silas, in his first public comments since the NBA and the players worked out a tentative labor deal. Silas said Maggette, a 12-season veteran, will be essential to filling the scoring gap left by the departures of Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace. "Corey has got to come through. He can be a 20-point scorer. He's going to be the focal point of our offense," Silas described. "We're going to rely on him to get it done for us, and he can.""
Lakers, Knicks or Bobcats for Baron?
"Updating Monday's package on the amnesty clause and the presumptions in Cleveland that Baron Davis might go to Miami to team up with LeBron James if the Cavs make him a free agent: Sources with knowledge of Davis' thinking told ESPN.com on Tuesday that Miami would not be at the top of Davis' list of potential free-agent destinations if the Cavs indeed decide to set him free. Davis' hometown Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, sources say, are the two teams he's always dreamed of playing for. Davis also still has a good relationship with the Charlotte community, Bobcats coach Paul Silas and Bobcats assistant coach Stephen Silas, all of which would likewise make the Bobcats an option"
Sources: Michael Jordan fined $100K
"The NBA fined Michael Jordan $100,000 for public comments he made last month about the lockout and one of the league's players, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. In an Aug. 19 interview with The Herald Sun, a newspaper in Australia, the Charlotte Bobcats owner spoke extensively about the need for revenue sharing and mentioned Milwaukee Bucks' Australian center Andrew Bogut. That violated the league's policy that bars team owners and employees from discussing the lockout or any players during the work stoppage. The NBA sent out a league-wide memo just before the lockout began on July 1 stating that anyone who broke the rules could be fined up to $1 million."
NBA wants 3rd round in draft
"After an overnight flight connecting through Helsinki, Finland, I bumped into a scout for the Denver Nuggets near the tourist information booth at the quaint little airport here where the second round of EuroBasket is taking place. Whether he knows it or not, he may be here scouting future third-round draft picks. That's right: Third round. SheridanHoops.com has learned that NBA owners have proposed adding a third round to the annual draft, a proposal that the players' union has countered by offering an array of changes to the draft that would help address the owners' desire for more competitive balance."
NBA Lockout Update: Sides are closer than they're saying
"Here's the dirty little secret about the NBA lockout, despite what both sides — the owners and the players — would have you believe: They are a lot closer to a settlement than most people realize. I know this because I talk regularly with a bunch of important people who tell me important things, and I am going to explain why I believe a settlement will be reached that will not only save the season, but also enable the NBA to have an "all is forgiven" honeymoon period (similar to what the NFL just experienced following its labor settlement) in which the frenzy of free agents signings, trades, training camps and exhibition games will make everyone forget all of the doomsday talk they've been"
Next bargaining session coming early September?
"It took 46 days for the NBA and its players' union after the lockout began July 1. It didn't go all that well. Rhetoric from both sides ramped up, lawsuits started flying around and most importantly, there wasn't any movement towards the middle. Then David Stern accused the union of cancelling a meeting last week with the union responding that Billy Hunter had been told Stern wasn't going to be available for two weeks. So as you can tell, this is all going just super. But they're finally going to try again sometime in early September, according to Newsday. At this point, the union will host an executive meeting in New York at the end of August. The anticipation is the union and league"
David Stern: NBA to look at contraction
"The NBA currently has thirty teams, but the league's commissioner, David Stern, seems open to the possibility that that number of franchises could shrink in the future. Speaking on an ESPN.com podcast, Stern stated that there is some interest in contraction from both the league and players sides and that the subject will be picked up after the current Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations are completed. "[Contraction] is not a subect that we're against," Stern said. "In fact, when you talk about revenue sharing, a number of teams have said that if you have a team that is perpetually going to be a recipient, aren't you better off with the ability to buy them in? Because between the"
It only gets harder for owners, players; owners expected to push for $45 million hard cap
"The NBA's Board of Governors met Tuesday in Dallas and heard a report on collective bargaining from Spurs owner Peter Holt, chairman of its labor relations committee. The league wouldn't reveal if the board officially authorized locking out the players once the clock strikes midnight Thursday, the end of the collective bargaining agreement that's been in place since 2005, but it doesn't matter. As commissioner David Stern has warned already, such a vote is a mere formality and can be conducted by any means at any time. The first lockout authorization via text message may be mere hours away. Holt's committee will meet with the negotiating committee of the National Basketball Player's"
Biyombo's Spanish team expects $1.4M
"When new Bobcats general manager Rich Cho last week described Bismack Biyombo's contract status as "a little bit complicated," he wasn't kidding. Biyombo's Spanish team apparently expects a buyout of approximately $1.4 million to allow the 18-year-old forward/center to join the Bobcats, who drafted him No.7 overall Thursday. NBA rules say the Bobcats can't pay more than $500,000 toward any buyout, so in some ways the team's hands are tied. The primary negotiation will need to be between Biyombo's agent and the Madrid-based team that currently holds the player's rights. Jorge Sanz, a spokesman for the Spanish team, told The Associated Press Tuesday that Biyombo has two seasons remaining on"
Bobcats tender qualifying offer to Dante Cunningham
"But when I opened my email to see the Bobcats tendered a qualifying offer to Dante Cunningham, I thought I should offer some perspective. I suspect had the Bobcats drafted a small forward -- Chris Singleton comes to mind -- Cunningham might have never gotten that guarantee of about $1 million. Still, the Bobcats sent a message by waiting as long as they did to restrict Cunningham's free-agency. He did something really silly. And I don't mean smoking a joint. I mean -- at the exact moment you have the chance to make life-changing money -- you draw the attention of a cop in the off-season, and when the cop takes a look (and apparently a sniff) inside your truck, he knows you've been smoking"
Charlotte Bobcats send top scorer Jackson to Bucks; draft Biyombo, Walker
"In one of the biggest trades in Charlotte Bobcats history - and that covers a lot of ground - the team has dealt away captain Stephen Jackson in a three-way transaction that acquired the No.7 overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft. Armed with the seventh and ninth selections, the Bobcats chose shotblocker/rebounder Bismack Biyombo of the Congo and Connecticut point guard Kemba Walker. With this move the Bobcats continue to dismantle the team that reached the playoffs in the spring of 2010. Jackson, Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler have all departed over the last 12 months. In their place is a team that will be young, will probably lose a lot next season, but is more in line"
Bobcats acquire No. 7 pick in trade that includes Kings and Bucks
"The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed in principle to a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings and the Charlotte Bobcats, multiple sources said Thursday. The Bucks will get Sacramento's Beno Udrih, Charlotte's Stephen Jackson and Shaun Livingston and the 19th pick from the Bobcats in Thursday night's draft, while Charlotte obtains the No. 7 pick from Sacramento and forward Corey Maggette from Milwaukee. The Kings will get guard John Salmons from Milwaukee and the 10th pick in the draft. Charlotte will keep the No. 9 pick. A source close to one of the teams told ESPN.com that other players might be added to the deal."
Cavaliers, Bobcats discuss deal
"A fascinating game of cat-and-mouse has unfolded in the middle of the lottery, where the Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Bobcats are jockeying to get the players they want out of the 2011 draft. Cleveland wants to draft 7-footer Jonas Valanciunas of Lithuania, but had a scenario where it could get him and also land the 19th overall pick belonging to the Bobcats, sources said. Charlotte has the ninth pick, and desperately wants Texas' Tristan Thompson. The Bobcats believe that Thompson won't get past Detroit with the eighth pick and need the Cavaliers to take him fourth. This way, Valanciunas, who may not be able to join the NBA until the 2012-13 season, would drop to"
Listen: Take Biyombo
"I know that a lot of you like famous players. You want the Charlotte Bobcats to invest the ninth pick in tonight's NBA draft on somebody with celebrity. No offense, but you're like that. But it's not what a player has done. It's what he can do. The Bobcats desperately need a big man who can run, jump and block shots. They haven't had one since they traded Gerald Wallace four months ago, and as the season wound down, it showed. Such a player was on the practice court at Time Warner Cable Arena Wednesday. His name is Bismack Biyombo, he's from the Republic of Congo, and if he is available, the Bobcats should take him. Even in the age of the instant electronic gossip, Biyombo remains a"
With so many unknowns, Bobcats prepare for many scenarios
"Armed with the ninth, 19th and 39th picks, the Charlotte Bobcats tonight enter the great "what if" draft. What if top-five talent Jonas Valanciunas is still available at No. 9 due to contractual complications? What if the Bobcats have the choice between forwards Marcus Morris of Kansas and Chris Singleton of Florida State? What if shotblocker extraordinaire Bismack Biyombo is still on the board at Nos. 9 and 19? What if they have the option to trade one of those first-round picks for a young veteran? Bobcats management is preparing for those scenarios and dozens more. This draft is unusually rich in variables, things that can't be predicted before they come to pass. "We're constantly on"
Potential Bobcats to get one last look
"In the final full day of preparation before Thursday's NBA draft, the Charlotte Bobcats will get an up-close look at shot-blocker Bismack Biyombo and a second workout for forwards Chris Singleton and Marcus Morris. The Bobcats' last workout will be significant. Biyombo has potential to be a great shot blocker and rebounder, although his offense is quite limited at this point. Singleton, from Florida State, and Morris, from Kansas, are considered prime candidates for the Bobcats' No.9 overall pick. Texas swingman Jordan Hamilton and Purdue forward JaJuan Johnson also will audition today. Hamilton would seem to be a candidate for the No.19 pick, while Johnson still could be available with"
There's a world of talent out there
"His upcoming summer schedule sounds like a children's guessing game. As in, "Where in the World is Rich Sheubrooks?" "South Africa, Slovenia, Latvia, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania..." Sheubrooks recited, listing the countries he'll soon visit, scouting teenage players for the Charlotte Bobcats. Sheubrooks is the team's director of global scouting, which means his annual travels come to fruition in Thursday's NBA draft. The Bobcats' experience with international players has been limited, the results mixed. Boris Diaw is from France, but the Bobcats traded for him well into his NBA career. Argentinian Walter Herrmann played portions of two seasons in Charlotte before being"
Fredette another Morrison?
"There is no more intriguing player in this NBA draft than Jimmer Fredette, the former Brigham Young star who averaged 28.9 points, led the nation in "Did-he-really-just-shoot-from-there?" swishes and was named The Associated Press national player of the year in 2011. When the Charlotte Bobcatsat No.9 on Thursday, it's quite possible Fredette will be available. When they pick again at No.19, he likely will be gone. Most mock drafts have him going somewhere from No.7 to No.15. So - given that this franchise already has suffered through the pain of the Adam Morrison Experience - would they take Jimmer? Would you? Unless the Bobcats are running a huge misdirection play, they won't. The team"
Ranking the Top 40 prospects in NBA draft
"Ranking the players in next week's NBA draft (June 23, 7 p.m., ESPN) is risky business. There aren't a lot of stars but there is depth. The player you'll get at No. 10 might be no safer a bet than one chosen No. 22. It says something that Kyrie Irving, who played about a dozen games at Duke, and Enes Kanter, who never gained eligibility in a year at Kentucky, are now considered among the safer picks in this draft. More than ever, you're making guesses on potential, rather than assessing a body of work. It's reasonable to assume that Irving, Kanter, Arizona forward Derrick Williams and Kentucky guard Brandon Knight will be among the first names called. You can round up the players"
New GM Cho knows gameplan to follow
"New Charlotte Bobcats general manager Rich Cho knows exactly what he's getting into: It's Seattle and 2007, all over again. Back then, Cho was a mid-level executive with the SuperSonics, an aging team winning 30-some games a season. That led to the painful steps of trading Ray Allen to Boston and allowing Rashard Lewis to leave for Orlando during free agency. It took three more seasons and a move of the franchise to Oklahoma City. But that team, now called the Thunder, was collecting extra draft picks and developing young talent. Now the Thunder's future is bright for a long time. That's the road map Cho brings to the Bobcats as the No.2 basketball executive in this franchise. He'll work"
Charlotte Bobcats hire Rich Cho as general manager
"Rich Cho, the former general manager of the Trail Blazers, has been hired as the general manager of the Charlotte Bobcats, the Charlotte Observer is reporting. Cho, who was fired May 23 by the Blazers, takes over the position held by Rod Higgins, who moves over to become the Bobcats' president of basketball operations. Because Cho was hired by another NBA team, the Blazers will not have to pay him the remaining two years of his contract. Cho is expected to be introduced Tuesday in Charlotte and will be in place for the NBA draft on June 23, where the Bobcats have three of the first 39 picks, including a first round pick acquired from Portland in a February trade for Gerald Wallace. Cho"
On draft day, Bobcats select...
"With about two weeks left until the draft, Observer NBA writer Rick Bonnell makes some early guesses as to who the Charlotte Bobcats' picks might be at Nos. 9, 19 and 39: With the ninth pick, the Bobcats select.... Either Colorado combo guard Alec Burks or Lithuanian big man Donatas Motiejunas. The thinking: Burks had to cancel a scheduled workout with the Bobcats because of a shoulder injury suffered the previous day in Milwaukee. Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins says they're working to reschedule Burks, although Higgins already knows the kid well, since Higgins' son, Corey, was a Colorado teammate. Burks doesn't have great shooting range and isn't an elite defender, but he has a knack"
Bobcats need to find a big man in middle
"Fact: The Charlotte Bobcats have no healthy centers under contract for next season. Fact: Center is arguably the hardest position to fill (point guard would be the only other contender) because so few players have true center size, plus the talent and skill to perform at the NBA level. Center defines the Bobcats' need position. They dealt Nazr Mohammed to Oklahoma City at the trade deadline and Kwame Brown becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this month. Gana Diop is recovering from a ruptured right Achilles tendon and could be out through the calendar year, based on initial estimates following surgery. Tyson Chandler was traded last summer to the Dallas Mavericks, to get the"
Silas: Trade up in draft only for a star
"Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas is glad his front office is investigating ways to move up in the June 23 NBA draft. Still, Silas has misgivings about converting picks Nos. 9 and 19 into one higher pick unless they're sure that one player would have big impact. "We've talked about moving up. My point is that if we do move up, that guy has to be a star kind of player," Silas said following the Bobcats' first pre-draft workout Thursday. "I think we'll get two real quality players here, to build on what we've established already. Silas said he'd favor trading up "If the guy is someone we think can really help us. But he has to potentially be better than what we have now. And looking at this"
Lines being drawn for another NBA lockout
"As the calendar moves closer to the June 30 expiration of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, one thing is growing more clear. "There will definitely be a lockout," says agent Steve Kauffman, who for years represented players but now has coaches as his clients. "The question is whether there will be (regular-season) games missed." "A lockout is going to happen," says Frank Brickowski, one of six regional representatives for the NBA Players Association. "After that, you draw a series of lines. "You draw a line at training camp. You draw a line at the start of the preseason. You draw a line at the start of the regular season. And at some point, the final line is, do we lose the"
With time slipping away, N.B.A. and players plan to meet
"The N.B.A. and the players union are meeting with greater frequency as time dwindles for reaching a new labor agreement and avoiding the league's first lockout since 1998. Commissioner David Stern and Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver spoke Tuesday before the N.B.A. lottery. In vague terms, Stern described progress in collective bargaining sessions with Billy Hunter, the union's executive director. The labor agreement expires June 30, after a season in which the N.B.A. has recorded substantially higher television ratings. Silver said that a bargaining session would take place next month during the N.B.A. finals at the site of the Western Conference winner — either Oklahoma City or Dallas."
Stephen Jackson: Larry Brown's poor attitude lost team
"Larry Brown's demise as Charlotte Bobcats coach was fated the day before training camp, when Brown trashed the team's prospects to the Bobcats' two captains. That, according to Stephen Jackson, the captain who remains with the team following Brown's firing in December and co-captain Gerald Wallace's trade to Portland in February. "When I had my beginning-of-the-season meeting, he basically told me we weren't going to be good, that we weren't going to be a playoff team,'' Jackson recalled in a remarkably candid interview Thursday. "You know me: I'm not going to accept that from anyone - telling me before we even get to see what happens that we aren't going to be any good. He lost me"
Tyrus Thomas likely back tonight for Bobcats; Temple signed for remainder of season
"Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas expects to get back power forward Tyrus Thomas (bruised ribs) for tonight's home game against the Milwaukee Bucks, although it sounds like Thomas won't be up to playing extended minutes. "We've got to work him back in. I'm not sure he'll be able to really sustain anything for about a week,'' Silas said following morning shootaround. Leading scorer Stephen Jackson missed shootaround with a headache, but Silas said Jackson should be ready to play tonight. The Bobcats should also get back big man Eduardo Najera (bruised shoulder), who missed the Knicks game."
Bobcats to sign McGuire
"The Charlotte Bobcats will use their open roster spot to re-sign forward Dominic McGuire in time for Friday's road game against the Los Angeles Lakers. In a separate move, the Bobcats plan to waive Sean Marks, and use that roster spot to sign 6-5 guard Garrett Temple to a 10-day contract. Temple, in the Development League after stints with Milwaukee and San Antonio, will likely join the Bobcats early next week. McGuire gets the spot vacated when the Bobcats waived Morris Peterson. The Bobcats had to waive three players - McGuire, Derrick Brown and Sherron Collins - to make trade-deadline deals involving Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed. The Bobcats hoped to re-sign Brown, but he was"
Derrick Brown coming back?
"The Bobcats won't know if they can re-sign forward Derrick Brown (waived to help facilitate Thursday's trades) until at least Tuesday. That's when he would clear waivers, according to the Bobcats. I'm told the Bobcats filed the paperwork to waive Mo Peterson, so that should become official today. They'll hold off on waiving Sean Marks, since he'd somewhat serve as insurance should center Joel Przybilla's knee act up."
Veteran Peterson and Marks, acquired to match salaries in the Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed trades, will be waived
"Morris Peterson and Sean Marks will be Charlotte Bobcats in name-only. Those two veterans, both acquired to help match salaries in the Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed trades, will be waived, according to Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins. That will open roster spots under the 15-man maximum, and it appears likely the Bobcats would bring back forward Derrick Brown, who was waived to help facilitate the draft-day deals. The Bobcats can't formally waive Peterson and Marks until physicals are completed on others, making the trades final."
Bobcats send Wallace to Blazers
""Crash" has landed in the Pacific Northwest. The Charlotte Bobcats have traded co-captain Gerald Wallace - he of the constant crash landings - to the Portland Trail Blazers for three expiring contracts, two first-round picks and cash. This deal, which was deemed dead by a source with one of the two teams Wednesday night and again by coach Paul Silas on Thursday morning, continues a trend - sacrificing rotation players to reduce payroll going forward. Over the summer, the Bobcats traded center Tyson Chandler to the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Erick Dampier's unguaranteed contract. They also chose not to re-sign point guard Raymond Felton, who went to the New York Knicks in free-agency. In"
Blazers acquire Gerald Wallace from Charlotte
"The Trail Blazers Thursday acquired forward Gerald Wallace from Charlotte in exchange for center Joel Przybilla, forward Dante Cunningham, forward-center Sean Marks and a pair of draft picks. One of the picks is New Orleans' first-round selection this season. Also included in the deal is Portland's 2013 first-round choice. The 6-7, 220-pound Wallace, 28, is Charlotte's No. 2 scorer at 15.6 points per game and its top rebounder at 8.2 per game. He played in the NBA All-Star game last season."
Blazers acquire Gerald Wallace from Charlotte
"The Trail Blazers Thursday acquired forward Gerald Wallace from Charlotte in exchange for center Joel Przybilla, forward Dante Cunningham and a pair of draft picks. One of the picks is New Orleans' first-round selection this season. Also included in the deal is Portland's 2013 first-round choice."
Source: No Bobcats-Blazers deal
"If the Charlotte Bobcats and Portland Trail Blazers ever were close to a deal involving Gerald Wallace, those discussions are currently dead, according to a source familiar with the situation. The internet was abuzz Wednesday with rumors Wallace was about to be moved to Portland, before Thursday's trade deadline. This much is true: The Bobcats approached the Blazers as far back as December, to inquire about their interest in Wallace. The Blazers showed enough interest to do research on Wallace's personality and health."
Gerald Wallace-to-Blazers trade talk won't go away
"Armed with what they believe is the luxury of not having to do anything, the Trail Blazers face today's NBA trading deadline as an active, but not desperate, participant. The Blazers' are working under a veil of secrecy engineered by first-year general manager Rich Cho, but leaks across the league have revealed that Cho is exploring everything from a trade that could net former All-Star Gerald Wallace to seeking an upgrade at backup point guard. The deadline is noon today. The flirtation with Wallace, Charlotte's physical and athletic small forward, remained in play after the Blazers' overtime 106-101 loss to the Lakers on Wednesday at the Rose Garden. The teams have apparently discussed"
Who will Bobcats keep, trade by deadline?
"It's true that the Charlotte Bobcats approached the Portland Trail Blazers, as far back as December, about their possible interest in small forward Gerald Wallace. It's not true - contrary to various Internet reports - that Wallace is ticketed to Portland. A source familiar with the situation said whatever discussions the two teams had appear dead heading into today's NBA trade deadline. The question going forward is whether the Bobcats will keep both Wallace and Stephen Jackson, long haul. Coach Paul Silas has said each of those players is best defensively guarding small forwards, but in the current configuration, Jackson must guard the opposing shooting guard."
Bobcats extend coach Paul Silas' contract
"Having had some of his best coaching success with the Hornets in Charlotte during his tenure there from 1999 until the team left for New Orleans in 2002, and having settled in the Charlotte area after he was fired by the Cavaliers in '05, it's little wonder Paul Silas calls coaching the Bobcats his, "dream job." He was installed as an interim coach on December 22, after the messy departure of Larry Brown, but Silas told Sporting News that he really wanted to chance to take over in Charlotte on a more permanent basis. Today, his wish comes true. The Bobcats announced that Silas has had the interim tag removed from his title, and he will be back as coach next year. Silas signed a one-year"
Interim coach Silas talking with Bobcats about extension
"Paul Silas soon might get his wish to have the interim tag taken off his title as Charlotte Bobcats coach. An NBA source confirmed Tuesday evening that the team has had discussions with Silas about a contract extension, reportedly one year, though nothing has been finalized. Silas was hired Dec.22 to replace Larry Brown and had guided the Bobcats to a 15-12 record entering their game Tuesday night at Chicago. Silas, 67, has made no secret of his desire to coach the Bobcats beyond this season, and he has said Charlotte is the only team he has any interest in coaching. It's a similar situation to when Silas replaced Dave Cowens as coach of the Charlotte Hornets during the 1998-99 season and"
Wallace is not fix for injured Thomas
"This should put a smile on Gerald Wallace's face: Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas doesn't see Wallace as the primary solution to replacing Tyrus Thomas at power forward. Wallace's reaction, when told Thomas would miss up to eight weeks with a torn meniscus, was surprise and discomfort. The last time Wallace played heavy minutes at power forward - the Bobcats' second season - the task beat him up. "If he wants me to go some (at 4), fine,'' Wallace told the Observer Thursday night. "But as far as labeling me a 4, I'm done with those days.'' Thomas had surgery on his left knee Friday morning. It was termed successful by the team. He'll recover throughout the weekend and is scheduled to"
Bobcats' Thomas suspended one game for hit on Okafor
"Tyrus Thomas of the Charlotte Bobcats has been suspended one game without pay for his Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two against Emeka Okafor of the New Orleans Hornets, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations. The incident, in which Thomas made elbow contact to Okafor's head and was ejected following the Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two call, occurred with 2:38 remaining in the 4th period of the Bobcats 88-81 loss on Saturday to the New Orleans Hornets at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte."
