Jazz to match Millsap

http://www.sltrib.com/jazz/ci_12853495

Quote:
A day ahead of the deadline to do so, the Jazz decided they will keep Paul Millsap by matching the four-year, $32 million offer sheet the restricted free agent forward signed with Portland, a source close to the team said Thursday.
The Jazz's move was widely expected, although they must make a $10.3 million upfront payment to Millsap under the terms of the offer sheet he signed with the Trail Blazers last Friday.
A former second-round draft pick, Millsap finished fourth in voting for the Most Improved Player last season after averaging 13.5 points and 8.6 rebounds last season. That included a streak of 19 consecutive double-doubles starting in place of the injured Carlos Boozer.
The Jazz are expected to continue to explore potential trades involving Boozer, with Chicago and Miami emerging as frontrunners. After matching the Millsap offer, the Jazz's payroll stands at more than $80 million.

Thoughts?

Great move by the Jazz IMO. Now get rid of Boozer for something good and they are set.

If Utah's paying that much for Milsapp, they need to sign and trade him.

Odom is the safer bet for a move to be made. Unless Portland makes a crazy large offer, then Charlotte will probably match it.
So Odom or a trade is the most likely option.

Portland's next target: Being the "capspace team" in a trade to help Utah unload Boozer (and bring a talented player to Portland)

That's not possible under the CBA at this point.

what, 6.4mil a year for 4 years...its just the signing on bonus and the luxury tax that makes us pay more, the contract is very good value for money for Paul once we get this year out the way.

anyway delighted he's back, money well eartn, congrats Paul

Is that what the deal is? I thought it was in the 9 million range. Nvm then.
