Then you need to look closer or use a different TV. Blu Ray is hundred times better in sound and video quality.

Example

yes blu ray is compatible with standard definition tvs. I used mine on a stand def tv for about a year before I got a big enough hd tv to put in my living room. Didnt see as much of a difference then when I got my HD TV though

Yes, exactly.. I believe someone has warned me that blu ray will be short-lived, though.

I think it will take quite awhile for DVD to be overrun just because of the price difference... DVD's can be produced and sold for the same price if not cheaper than VHS, the same can't be said for Blu-ray. I have a 80 dollar dvd player that has lasted me 4 years with no problem... from what I am hearing here I'd have to fork out 500 dollars for a blu ray player plus an extra 5-10 bucks a movie... and thats not even counting the fact that I don't have and HD tv yet, like so many other Americans. With the price of Gas where it is I don't see so many people forking out that much money for a little better video and audio quality. Plus they would need a guarantee that the old dvd's they owned would be transferred over to Blu-ray sometime in the near future. Doesn't seem worth it to me

I think HD ppv is the wave of the future. I believe Netflix is already offering it, however, the technology is not quite there; the download time is too long as of right now and you have to buy a box (receiver). I believe other companies are already selling such boxes.

I was watching Die Hard on Blueray the other day. That's one of the great things about Blueray: older movies look awesome. I saw The Warriors and it looked so bright, colorful, and sharp that you would swear it was filmed last year. Then when you see the bonus material and watch what the actors look like currently, you
